The New York Police Department has suspended officers Wing Hong Lau and Wael Jaber for failing to respond to a 911 call from a woman who said her husband was acting strangely and was going to kill her. The two went to the woman's home but did not get out of their vehicle. The woman was later found dead with bruises around her neck, apparently strangled.

  1. Paid vacation, slap on the wrist, back on the street.

    1. And relatives can’t sue because the Nazgul decreed police have no duty to protect or respond to calls for help.

    2. I just started 7 weeks ago and I’ve gotten 2 check for a total of $2,000…this is the best decision I made in a long time! “Thank you for giving me this extraordinary opportunity to make extra money from home.

  2. It’s not their fault they were tired out after a long workday of keeping guns out of the hands of violent psychos.

  3. “The two went to the woman’s home but did not get out of their vehicle.”

In all fairness to the cops, this Bomb Cyclone is taking a toll on us all.

  4. “A high-ranking NYPD source said the two officers received “incomplete information” when they were told to check on Wells.”

I’m just a dumb “civilian,” but it seems like lack of information would be cause for a closer examination of the situation, not less.

    1. They were taste testing Krispy Kremes, as shown on the bodycam footage.

  5. Still looking for the sweet spot somewhere between ‘kick the door down with guns blazing’ and ‘Fuck it’.

    1. ‘best piece of tail he’ll ever have’

Can’t call fake news on that. Word.

      1. Fun fact: the author of that book claims to have a lot of recorded interviews.

Funner fact: The author is an old, strange-looking creep with a pretty younger lady for a wife, and he is a liar and Twitter star, so he’s perfect.

    2. “You’re the best piece of tail he’ll ever have.”

Go ahead, CNN, prove him wrong on this. PROVE HIM WRONG. I look forward to the documentation you’ll provide to bolster your opinion that she was, in fact, NOT the best piece of tail he’ll ever have.

    3. In some pics she looks 20. In others she looks 45.

Hot chick with loose morals. Perfect for politics.

  6. They didn’t feel like shooting someone that day, especially someone who was actually committing a crime.

  7. Barry Wells, who wed the victim in April, was apprehended about 6 p.m. Wednesday with the help of the New Rochelle Police Department.

Police were able to reach through their car window to handcuff Wells.

  8. So tell me again about how nobody needs guns, just call the cops – – – –

  9. The suspect was arrested Sept. 21 on a second-degree strangulation charge stemming from a July assault on Wells at her mother’s Manhattan home.

Barry Wells was released after posting $5,000 bond and issued a temporary order of protection.

Police responded to the home for a second domestic violence incident involving the couple in September ? but there were no arrests, police said.

Nobody could have seen it coming.

  10. “Lau and Jaber responded a short time later but never made it to the door on a day that saw temperatures in the lower 20s, sources said.”

Kudos to the news writer who wrote that sentence.

    1. From the car there were no obvious signs of strangulation. Nothing to see here, move along.

  11. See, that’s the type of cop I’d be, & that I’d expect others to be. Never a worry that I might do something bad, or anything at all. Except to people who’d complain about it; those we’d assassinate.

  12. The woman’s first mistake was not having a dog. Had there been a dog, the cops would have been compelled to exit their car to shoot the dog, and their presence might have interrupted the strangling.

Her second mistake was not having a similar address to a drug dealer’s. If her house numbers could be easily switched by a dyslexic with those of a drug dealer, there would have been a SWAT team at her house, stat.

  14. Crisakes, everyone, a woman is dead and we are snarking about it…just like the LEOs are back at the local precinct.

    1. Snark is my chief weapon against these jack booted thugs who are just grown up bullies who can’t cut it in a job where consequences matter.

As for laughing, I’m ridiculing them, not the poor woman. If they are laughing back at the precinct, it is only at the gullible and sheeplike public. I’m pretty sure those guys are incapable of laughing at themselves, or of having much self-awareness at all. They certainly have no sense of shame.

    2. Its called gallows humor and is usually a skill earned after many rides around the sun.

    3. As opposed to all the other Reason threads, where we… eh… do something other than “snark about government crimes”?

When one sees an abuse occurring, the decent mind objects; the simple mind insults; and the superior mind, snarks. Something you shoud keep in mind.

  15. “The two went to the woman’s home but did not get out of their vehicle.”

    But baby it’s cold outside

    1. Transfer them to North Dakota, so they can learn what _cold_ is. I live in the considerably milder climate of southwest Michigan, and to me the 20’s isn’t cold, it’s just time to get out the heavy winter jacket when I ride my bicycle to work.
