Mistletoe
Lisa F. Young / Dreamstime

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has deleted a tweet that warned people that kissing someone under the mistletoe without consent is rape, but not before that tweet was widely shared, and mocked. Officials said the tweet was taken out of context.

While the offence of sexual assault involves intentionally sexually touching another without consent and without reasonably believing the other consents, rape must involve penetration with a penis.

PSNI later appeared to defend the thrust of its earlier message

I see what they did there.

      PSNI - Penis-sticking Northern Irish?

      Yep, they were Dublin down.

  2. Radioactive   8 years ago

never take your tweet out of context until it's damage has been done...

  3. Eidde   8 years ago

The downside of the Easter Accords ending the Troubles is that it left Northern Ireland cops with free time to deal with mistletoe rape.

  4. Eidde   8 years ago

Quick, before I get bored and quit:

"Hey, there, baby, wanna see my shillelagh?"

    "Wanna kiss my blarney stone?"

"There's no sham about my shamrock."

"Nobody ever confuses me with a leprechaun."

    "Brace yourself, Bridget!"

    1. Inigo Montoya   8 years ago

      You shame us all, Seamus.

      1. Radioactive   8 years ago

        Irish this shit would cease...

  5. Eidde   8 years ago

OK, I feel a bit guilty about that last one, so on a more serious note, here is The Lament for Limerick, which is like a country music song, only sadder.

  6. Rich   8 years ago

"when you are out socialising over the Christmas period, please remember without consent it is rape."

So, crashing a party is rape.

  7. Telcontar the Wanderer   8 years ago

"Officials said the tweet was taken out of context."

Yep, they did, indeed, take it out of the place the cunt X'ed it from.

  8. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

More like hashtag #SeasonsGropings, am I right?

  9. Dead inside   8 years ago

"Taken out of context" equals "The check is in the mail"
Notice that after saying that buffer there is NEVER an attempt to put the statement into the intended context.

  10. Jerryskids   8 years ago

Kissing someone under the mistletoe may be innocent enough but kissing them under the bush is right out.

  11. Rebel Scum   8 years ago

kissing someone under the mistletoe without consent is rape

Yea, let's keep diluting the meaning of words.

Officials said the tweet was taken out of context.

Oliver Cromwell said the same thing about his conquest.

  12. Enjoy Every Sandwich   8 years ago

In Progressive World even thinking about sex is "rape".

    1. Rich   8 years ago

      A la Jimmy Carter.

      1. Conchfritters   8 years ago

        Peanut farmer #metoo?

  13. Longtobefree   8 years ago

Out of context, maybe; but more likely just ahead of its time.

  14. Old Mexican's Speedos   8 years ago

Officials said the tweet was taken out of context.

In the same manner a toxic waste spill can be taken out of context, I suppose...

  15. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

More like Mister Toe the Line, am I right?

  16. Bra Ket   8 years ago

What they meant to say is: kissing someone under the mistletoe without consent may get you accused of sexual assault causing the immediate destruction of your career and reputation.

    Very important public safety message.

  17. Stormy Dragon   8 years ago

Officials said the tweet was taken out of context.

If you're saying something that would look bad taken out of context, don't say it on Twitter, because the basic function of the platform is to present individual tweets to third parties with absolutely no context.

  18. markm23   8 years ago

The Irish police easily get confused about rape because they've never even gotten to 1st base.
