President Trump reportedly promised the father of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan $25,000 but never followed through.

It was a voucher for Trump University.

You have to stop falling for that, dude.

    2. Domestic Dissident   8 years ago

Jesus fucking Christ, some people will believe anything, no matter how absurd.

Especially when they're an Obama-worshipping registered Democrat in Philadelphia.

If really stupid, nonsensical hobby horses were pizzas, Simple Mikey would have a solid half dozen pizzas that he never stops riding.

Melania Trump will donate her inaugural gown to the Smithsonian.

I didn't think they accepted Nazi memorabilia?

    1. Juice   8 years ago

They have all sorts of Nazi stuff. The V-2 in the A&S museum is pretty cool.

      1. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

I didn't know that, I thought it wasn't kosher to memorialize Nazi paraphernalia.

        1. BYODB   8 years ago

It may not be kosher but it's totes halal.

      2. Atlas Slugged   8 years ago

A&S is a good museum, especially for some of its priceless pieces. However, the USAF Museum outside of Dayton OH is MUCH larger and has an impressive WW2 collection (allies & axis). [Note: even with including the Udvar-Hazy Dulles annex, the USAF Museum is MUCH larger than A&S]. Only problem...you have to go to Dayton OH. Maybe the Jacket can meet you there, he only lives about an hour away!

"all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart."

I'm no lawyer, but "should" and "shall" have completely different meanings.

      1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

"It's against the law, you know that?" the former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice. "It was a act of Congress that every man stand and put their hand over their heart. That's the law." He added: "If they didn't have it in there, it would just be tradition. But this is law. If we disobey this, what else are we going to disobey?"

Rape apologists can cut and paste, too!

              1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

Well, leaning into your irredeemable dirtbag rep is one response, i guess.

It's the only play here for all of us.

        2. Adam330   8 years ago

Good point. Wouldn't want people to think they could violate federal court orders.

      2. BYODB   8 years ago

I've looked at several stories, and they all assume that Moore is referring to the U.S. code that uses the word should but I'm wondering if perhaps he was talking about Alabama law? I mean, it's pretty hard to tell but I'm thinking he's really just that nuts. I can't seem to locate an Alabama statue saying it's illegal, either way.

        1. Don't look at me.   8 years ago

          Just nuts.

        2. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Certainly not a strong defense of free-speech.

          1. BYODB   8 years ago

Definitely true. Honestly my wonder was mostly regarding if Alabama was nutty enough to actually have a statute on the books making it illegal. I wouldn't put that past Alabama.

            1. Adam330   8 years ago

There isn't an NFL team that plays in Alabama, is there? So even if there were an Alabama law about this, besides being very unconstitutional, it wouldn't apply to any of the NFL players that are kneeling.

              1. BYODB   8 years ago

I have no idea, the last time I watched a football game was in high school because it was mandatory. I'm a terrible Texan in that regard, and I'll admit I have absolutely no clue whatsoever about the game beyond the technical rules and the people's names that show up occasionally in the news.

There are so many much more interesting subjects that which guy on steroids can run faster than that guy who may or may not be on steroids, but is definitely on steroids.

        3. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Yeah, that's such a severe abrogation of free speech that it makes me doubt any other claims of being a constitutional conservative.

  4. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Researchers in Kansas have found alligators are eating sharks in America's rivers.

    But only in Florida.

I've always wondered which wine goes with manatees. They are "sea cows", so is it white for the sea part, or red for the cow part?

  5. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore claimed it was "against the law" for NFL players to kneel during the national anthem.

    Moore meant Christian Sharia Law.

    1. BYODB   8 years ago

Why don't you use the Christian version of Sharia law instead of equating it with Muslim Sharia Law? Is it because you can't find it, because it doesn't exist, or because you're just super lazy and intellectually bankrupt? You can also feel free to fill out the real reason under 'other' if applicable.

      1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

Actually, the Old Testament (Mosaic Law) calls for the stoning of adulterers, non-virgin females who marry, gays, etc. And the Southern US religions pretty much use the OT for their morals.

It is pretty easy to call out by name.

        1. BYODB   8 years ago

Huh, so you're comparing anecdotal religious law that was specifically condemned by Christians over 2000 years ago to modern Muslim practices? To what end?

          1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

You've never heard of the Southern Baptist religion. They don't give a flying fuck about the New Testament but instead adhere to Mosaic Law.

            1. BYODB   8 years ago

I taught bible study for Southern Baptists actually, and I'll admit I did not run into what you describe. Never once did I hear a pastor say that gays should be stoned, and I went to a lot more than just a few of their churches.

              1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

I grew up Southern Baptist and heard a ton of cruel beliefs. Did I ever see a stoning? No. But I did hear a lot of damnation and hatred for others. It would be difficult to call them Christian in any literal sense of the word.

                1. BYODB   8 years ago

Ah, so you use blatant hyperbole to justify your hate on a group of people who don't share your world view. I would think that gay people wouldn't give a flying fuck about going to hell, which as far as I'm aware is the only 'punishment' for being gay to something like 95%+ of the Christian world.

That said, I would tend to agree that I have never been to a church that accurately reflects Christian values. I had my own anger with them until I recalled that humans are flawed, and churches are human, thus expecting perfect mirroring of Christianity from it's followers is a fools errand.

Obviously, the same is true of Muslims as well.

                  1. Palin's Buttplug   8 years ago

There have been hundred of crimes and murders of gays simply for being gay by so-called Christians in the last couple of decades. Matthew Shepard's murder comes to mind.

                    1. BYODB   8 years ago

Indeed, and my point was that according to the holy book of Christians is it not justified to kill gay people, or harm them in any way. It's in there, I absolutely won't deny it, but I can't think of a single modern Christian faith that follows the old testament of the bible because it requires you to ignore the New Testament.

Bizarrely, the Jews sort of follow the Old Testament and you'll note that the Jews aren't exactly known for exterminating gays either.

Of the three Abrahamic religions, Muslim's are the only remaining one that still murders gay people as a matter of course in countries where they are able to do so with impunity.

The idea that a Christian theocratic state would suddenly murder gays again isn't true even in Christian theocratic states that still exist today. That is a fact.

                    2. Bubba Jones   8 years ago

There is a stronger prohibition on remarriage in the New Testament than there is against gay marriage.

As in Jesus banned one and not the other.

                2. Bubba Jones   8 years ago

So the real blame lies with your parents?

            2. Mock-star   8 years ago

I could tell from the daily reports of mass adulterer stonings coming from the south.

            3. Bubba Jones   8 years ago

I attend a southern baptist church.

You have idea wtf you are talking about.

"It's against the law, you know that?" Moore told the magazine. "It was a act of Congress that every man stand and put their hand over their heart. That's the law."

Someone needs to follow Roy Moore around 24/7 and play the star spangled banner on repeat.

The prime minister of Sweden called an explosion outside of a police station an "attack on our democracy."

And some day, if they're lucky, the bomber will go on to mentor one of their future presidents.

        It does now.

I waa gonna say you can call it Crocknado, but then I realized that is an entirely different kind of horror.

          1. BYODB   8 years ago

I was thinking they could just call it 'Alone' and market it as a Rom-Com. What could go wrong?

      2. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

I'm glad that they made an Archie Comics version of that.

        1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Though it was not as good as Archie Vs. Predator

          1. BYODB   8 years ago

            Please tell me Archie lost.

            1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

              He does in fact die.

            Who won?

            1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

At the end after Archie is killed Betty goes crazy and beats the predator unconcious, then in her grief uses an alien surgery machine to make the predator look like Archie and then mind controls it.

              1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

It was amazing. It was more amazing than it sounds. Archie versus Sharknado wasn't very good though.

              2. BYODB   8 years ago

Note to self: Archie comics are far more dark and insane than I assumed. 0.o

                1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

They've gotten weird. They're probably going to go out of business in the next few years. But Afterlife with Archie was also weird and grim. Also, had incest and Jughead is the original Zombie.

                  1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

I have a weird love of Archie comics. It will be sad to see them die. But they are an awful company.

                    1. BYODB   8 years ago

No, your description of them actually makes them out to be far more awesome than I ever would have guessed.
