The rain in Texas from what's left of Hurricane Harvey is shattering records and will continue for several days. Louisiana also faces some very heavy rains.

  • Now that he's been pardoned, will ex-sheriff Joe Arpaio challenge Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake for his Senate seat? Trump and Flake notably do not see eye-to-eye.
  • A business associate of President Donald Trump boasted back in 2015 about ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin that would help Trump get a hotel built in Moscow and that would help Trump win the presidency. There's no actual evidence, though, that this guy actually accomplished anything.
  • So there was a guy who claimed he got stabbed simply because somebody thought he looked like a neo-Nazi. Now police say he made up the story after accidentally cutting himself.
  • Amazon has wasted absolutely no time slashing the hell out of prices at Whole Foods on its very first day of ownership.
  • A nurse in Germany is suspected to have been responsible for killing more than 80 people with overdoses of heart medication. He's already in prison for two murder convictions.

Now that he’s been pardoned, will ex-sheriff Joe Arpaio challenge Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake for his Senate seat?

His kind seems destined for the Senate.

      Hello.

“A nurse in Germany is suspected to have been responsible for killing more than 80 people with overdoses of heart medication. He’s already in prison for two murder convictions.”

At least Germans are still very efficient.

      1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Private companies could have kill 10x as many in half the time for 1/100th the cost.

  2. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

A nurse in Germany is suspected to have been responsible for killing more than 80 people with overdoses of heart medication.

He’s up for the country’s highest honor for saving their medical system so much money.

    Goddamn Macklemore.

It’s better this way, I was too lazy and unfashionable to do that haircut everybody had.

  5. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

Amazon has wasted absolutely no time slashing the hell out of prices at Whole Foods on its very first day of ownership.

They can’t do anything about the obnoxious clientele, however.

    1. some guy   8 years ago

The drop in prices will take care of that over the next few weeks as normal people take interest.

      1. Rhywun   8 years ago

Just don’t go crazy and turn into Target or WalMart.

        1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Makes me think of a story, I can’t source it so don’t trust my goddamned liars mouth. I remember hearing a story about a high-end fashion brand that developed a new a technique that allowed them to produce one of their products for much cheaper and so they lowered the price of their goods. Sales tanked from this as the lower price made it lose the luster of being a premium good. So they reraised the price and just reaped the profits.

    2. Rich   8 years ago

Slashing the hell out of the clientele falls to the jihadis.

The first time I went into a Whole Foods, I was so disgusted by all the ORGANIC signs plastered all over that I turned around and walked out. I thought briefly of looking for organic toothpaste or bottled water, but it wasn’t worth it. I didn’t notice any prices, just assumed they’d be sky high for the kind of crowed that wants ORGANIC toothpaste.

      1. Crusty Juggler   8 years ago

What did Toms of Maine do to you?

        1. Scarecrow Repair & Chippering   8 years ago

You mean there really is organic toothpaste?!? I guess truth really is stranger than fiction!

      2. Spartacus   8 years ago

They are the sole providers of non-GMO bottled water. Had to pay $1 a pint, but it was worth every penny.

        1. lap83   8 years ago

The Kochtopus has infiltrated our water, too?! Actually, that makes perfect sense..

      3. Zeb   8 years ago

Just ignore it. It’s just a marketing gimmick that seems to work on a certain segment of the population. They have really good meat and bulk stuff at Whole Foods.

        1. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

I really like being able to purchase local microbrews in a growler at the Whole Foods. The closest grocery store to my house is WF, but the only thing I’ve ever bought their is beer and the occasional item that I’m missing in a recipe.

        2. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Eh. I’m always disappointed by their stuff. Their bakery at least, haven’t bought their meat very often and I get bulk nuts at Costco cheaper.

    4. SIV   8 years ago

Wear you MAGA hat and complain they don’t have any crate-raised veal.

  6. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Is there anyone more annoying than a cutter looking for attention?

Too many White House officials receive Secret Service protection

Unfortunately, many officials request security details not because they are fearful, but for reasons of arrogance. Put simply, they like to be seen out and about while surrounded by sharp highly-trained men and women in suits. They like this, for it makes them appear and feel important: Security details are seen as the pinnacle of D.C. status.

Sure, it’s pathetic, costly for taxpayers, and abuses Secret Service professionalism, but it continues nonetheless. And that’s a challenge in that the service doesn’t do protection on the cheap. Each detail operates 24 hours a day and has at least 2 agents on post at any one time. Considering shift rotations, this likely means at least 8 agents per detail.

    Safety first.

    1. some guy   8 years ago

I’m sure the SS doesn’t complain because it’s an excuse for more funding and manpower.

    4. Libertarian   8 years ago

They should have a deductible, like insurance. I wonder how many security details there would be if the official had to pay the first $10,000.

  8. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Amazon has wasted absolutely no time slashing the hell out of prices at Whole Foods on its very first day of ownership.

Ugh. They’re turning it into the Piggly Wiggly.

    1. some guy   8 years ago

      1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

            1. SIV   8 years ago

Wegmans is fucking great. What is so amazing to me (about the stores in Virginia anyways) is if you don’t load up on the “high end” stuff, the prices are really low.

      3. SIV   8 years ago

I remember The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, whippersnappers.

Deadly military crashes, collisions raise fears ahead of possible stop-gap budget

A continuing resolution would put off the proposed Pentagon budget and House and Senate defense budget bills aimed directly at plowing new funding into military operations and maintenance, including more Navy training at sea and military pilot flight hours, and to shore up overstretched forces, Callender said.

Both the armed services committees in the House and Senate have raised alarms over the state of the military and use of continuing resolutions.

The Navy can’t even train sailors how to steer boats and TreasonNN (get it?) wants to spend money on mentally ill transgendered surgery.

    1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

      I got it.

A nurse in Germany is suspected to have been responsible for killing more than 80 people with overdoses of heart medication. He’s already in prison for two murder convictions.

Make up your mind, Sharkfold. It’s either a he or it’s a nurse. Also, you know who else…?

Antifa Violence Is Ethical? This Author Explains Why

NBC News: How would you define the antifa movement?

BRAY: It’s basically a politics or an activity of social revolutionary self defense. It’s a pan-left radical politics uniting communists, socialists, anarchists and various different radical leftists together for the shared purpose of combating the far right.

You wrote in your book: “At the heart of the anti-fascist outlook is a rejection of the classical liberal phrase incorrectly ascribed to Voltaire that says I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” What do you mean by that?

Anti-fascists are illiberal. They don’t see fascism or white supremacy as a view with which they disagree as a difference of opinion. They view organizing against them as a political struggle where the goal is not to establish a regime of rights that allow neo-Nazis and victims to coexist and exchange discourse, but rather the goal is to end their politics.

See, this is why Antfia must be fought against with even more violence!

    1. Zeb   8 years ago

If only we could get the media to refer to neo-Nazis as leftists, antifa would be so confused that they wouldn’t even know who to fight anymore. Or something. Profit!

    2. Arizona_Guy   8 years ago

” the shared purpose of combating the far right.”

And they think anyone not a communist is “far right”

So Trump didn’t even get to the part where he flies away in a helicopter while the hotel files for bankruptcy? But that’s his favorite part! Sad!

  16. DajjaI   8 years ago

Arpaio vs Flake – this is EXACTLY why it was great that Trump pardoned Arpaio. If he hadn’t then Arpaio would have become a martyr for the alt-right and a racist ’round em up’ Nazi would have easily won. Now they must fight it out fair and square and Arpaio will LOSE and I will make MILLIONS off sweet, sweet Trumpkin tears. Just need to get some bottles and figure how to get ya’ll to stop bucking…..

High school science teacher allegedly admits to sex with student, 15

“The inappropriate contact began while he was swimming at her residence and they moved to the hot tub,” an investigator wrote in an affidavit obtained by CBS News.

The victim told police later that day he and Varney went to Canoe Creek State Park, about four miles from Varney’s Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania home. He said they walked her dog along a path before having sex on a bench near the path.

    1. Anomalous   8 years ago

First time in a while that we’ve had a story like this and the teacher isn’t hot.

      1. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

The hotness of the teacher is the crux of all these cases for me.

Not hot = jail this sick bitch
Hot = it is a travesty of justice to jail this Saint

“Being a parent, teacher, and taxpayer gives me a unique perspective into all three stakeholders school directors affect,” she said. “I have children in the school system so I understand the importance that children receive the educational foundation they need to flourish and to become contributing members of society.

If a fifteen year old boy getting schooled by his female teacher in a hot tub isn’t the educational foundation he needs, I don’t know what is.

Yep. Sounds like good times were had all around. It’s a shame that society keep pretending that people all magically sexually mature at 18 and inherit all of the sexual knowledge they’ll need for the rest of their lives.

How to Pick the Best Chocolate Bar Your Money Can Buy

Makers are also refuting the notion that milk chocolate is somehow lesser. While milk chocolate has an association with low-quality, drugstore chocolate, makers are now offering “dark milk” bars “with as much or more depth of flavor than any dark chocolate,” Giller writes.

I used to get the cage free or free range eggs at Whole Foods and also the grass fed milk with cream on top. But that was back when they were $3.99 a doz and $4.59 a half gallon. I would also get bulk walnuts for $5.99 a pound. Then they jacked it to over $5 a dozen, $5.39 a half gallon, and stopped selling bulk walnuts and charging $8.99 for a one pound package. I just stopped going altogether. They opened up a really big one close to the house, so maybe I’ll give them another try. I’m sure the meat will still be outrageous.
