For sure. But unless and until the people of China decide to do something about it I think it's much preferable to have totalitarians engaged with the rest of the world and running things in such a way that people in China can have better lives than the likely alternatives.

Jared Kushner sealed real estate deal with oligarch's firm cited in money-laundering case

    The most interesting section:

The ties between Trump family real estate deals and Russian money interests are attracting growing interest from the justice department's special counsel, Robert Mueller, as he seeks to determine whether the Trump campaign collaborated with Russia to distort the outcome of the 2016 race. Mueller has reportedly expanded his inquiry to look at real estate deals involving the Trump Organization, as well as Kushner's financing.

Bronx Hotline Helps People Make the Right Call After an Arrest

Most people who are arrested wind up in court, where more than 40 percent of the defendants cannot provide the name and number of a friend or relative, according to the New York City Criminal Justice Agency. The agency interviews almost all defendants before they are formally charged at an arraignment and provides release recommendations to the presiding judges.

Aubrey Fox, the executive director of the agency, said people who cannot provide an emergency contact, which helps prove ties to the community, are less likely to be recommended for release without bail, and they are ineligible for alternatives like supervised release.

"So there is this debate about, how do you get defendants access to phone numbers in the cellphone era, when nobody remembers phone numbers anymore?" Mr. Fox said.

    1. Crusty Juggler :)   8 years ago

To address this problem, a 24-hour hotline started in the Bronx last fall offers one easy-to-remember number, 1-833-3-GOODCALL (1-833-346-6322), for people who are arrested. It is similar to one operating in Chicago. The hotline workers can connect a caller with lawyers from the Bronx Defenders and the Legal Aid Society and can notify relatives. The free service also allows people to store contact information. Good Call is available citywide, but the public defenders it uses are available only in the Bronx

Bizarre street signs go up in the wake of Justine Damond's shooting death in US

The sign features a silhouette of a police officer holding a gun in his hands, shooting in both directions.

It states: "WARNING: TWIN CITIES POLICE EASILY STARTLED". Social media users have begun posting sightings of the signs in Minnieapolis and neighbouring city Saint Paul on platforms including Reddit.

The sign, which I am pretty sure is a hate crime.

    Blue Lives Matter, people.

Lana Del Rey confirms attempt to use witchcraft against Donald Trump

"I really do believe that words are one of the last forms of magic ...."

Apparently she's using witchcraft to influence her publicity.

    1. Red Rocks Baiting n Inciting   8 years ago

The sad part is that she isn't practicing any form of witchcraft, she's just echoing the modern leftists sentiment that language can be manipulated to create whatever reality you wish. She isn't doing anything much different than what's in George Lakoff's propaganda tracts.

      1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

She's just making clear the underlying assumptions, which most leftists don't question because they're transparently stupid and doing so would undermine a great deal of modern Progressivism.

Justin Bieber banned from China for 'bad behaviour'

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber has been banned from performing in China, according to Beijing's Culture Bureau.

In a statement, the ministry said it was not appropriate to allow in entertainers who have engaged in "bad behaviour."

"Justin Bieber is a gifted singer, but he is also a controversial young foreign singer," it added.

The statement was issued in response to a question recently submitted by a user of the bureau's website.

"We hope that as Justin Bieber matures, he can continue to improve his own words and actions, and truly become a singer beloved by the public," the statement said.

How Fake Cops Got $1.2 Million in Real Weapons

This year, the agency went a little more cowboy. The GAO created a fictitious law enforcement agency ? complete with a fake website and a bogus address that traced back to an empty lot ? and applied for military-grade equipment from the Department of Defense.

It would really be educational for museum-goers if the gift shop would how to calculate socialist prices of the items that they sell.

Since most of the crap is probably made in China, and a socially just minimum wage is $15/hour, the gift shop's procurement policy should insist that all of the workers in communist Chinese factories be paid $15/hour.

By Scaramucci in the Trump twitter article:

Full transparency: I'm deleting old tweets. Past views evolved & shouldn't be a distraction. I serve @POTUS agenda & that's all that matters

If he seriously thinks deleting old tweets reduces the likelihood of their being commented on, he has no business being in charge of communications, because he clearly has no clue what he's doing.

    1. Citizen X - #6   8 years ago

There's also programs you can get to monitor Twitter feeds and notify you whenever a twitter gets deleted. So deleting old tweets just specifically notifies journalists which ones to scrutinize.
