It’s really more an issue of the limits of scale than the limits of government. They’ve crammed an additional 1.5 million people in the last 35 years into an area that has no room to expand outward, and those 1.5 million people all need services of various kinds.

And they want MORE public transportation when this is one of the better case scenarios for this country.

NYC is a prog’s residential wet dream–driving is a goddamn nightmare there so you have to take the subway to get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time and everyone is packed on top of one another. Short of banning every automobile except taxis within the city limits altogether and expanding bus service to make up some of the difference, I don’t see how they would even come close to mitigating the issue.

More hospital closings in rural America add risk for pregnant women

Nationally, 119 rural hospitals that have shut since 2005, with 80 of those closures having occurred since 2010, according to the most recent data from the North Carolina Rural Health Research Program.

To save on insurance and staffing costs, maternity departments are often among the first to get shuttered inside financially stressed rural hospitals, according medical professionals and healthcare experts.

“It’s been a slow and steady decline,” said Michael Topchik, the National Leader for the Chartis Center for Rural Health, about maternity ward closings. “It’s very expensive care to offer, especially when it’s lower volume.”

The trend has escalated recently even though the national healthcare law, known as Obamacare, was designed in part to help rural hospitals thrive. But unpaid patient debt has risen among rural hospitals by 50 percent since the Affordable Care Act was passed, according to the National Rural Health Association, especially in states that decided not to expand Medicaid ? the state and federal insurance program for the poor.

Calif. cop who fatally shot partner charged with manslaughter

A California police officer who accidentally shot his partner in the stomach will be charged for involuntary manslaughter, officials said.

Fresno County Det. Jared Mullis shot Sgt. Rod Lucas in October. Prosecutors said Mullis accidentally fired his gun and the bullet hit Lucus in the chest.

Mullis plans to contest the charges.

“It’s basically a career-ending conviction. If he wants to remain in law enforcement or otherwise he needs to fight this.”

According to KMPH, there were four people in the room at the time of the shooting. The detectives were discussing their equipment when Mullis’ gun fired. Fresno Sheriff Margaret Mims described the incident as a “tragic accident.”

It was far from the first time that Taiwanese lawmakers have come to blows.

Although the behavior is often criticized and politicians sometimes apologize for their behavior, it is seen as being red meat for their bases ? proof that lawmakers will fight for their constituents, literally if necessary.
