  • Trump's Twitter tear this mornings has targeted Republican legislators and Chicago crime, which has "reached such epidemic proportions that I am sending in Federal help," Trump tweeted.

If Republican Senators are unable to pass what they are working on now, they should immediately REPEAL, and then REPLACE at a later date!

If Republican Senators are unable to pass what they are working on now, they should immediately REPEAL, and then REPLACE at a later date!

And do something about all these women bleeding around me!

    1. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

      Hello.

    2. BYODB   8 years ago

Funny that Trump would say this now, since it was exactly what the Republicans were elected to do in the first place. Well, y'know, minus the whole 'replace' thing.

Trump was the only one saying replace, if memory serves.

  2. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

"The guy that's in the White House now is not the guy we knew 2 years ago."

Who would have guessed these two weren't good judges of character.

    1. C. S. P. Schofield   8 years ago

      Anyone who ever saw them?

Seriously; deriding anyne who doesn't fall in with the Leftie Narrative Of The Day is a longtime pattern of behavior for the stooges of the Mainstream Media. No surprises here.

Trump has consistently behaved like an asshole since he first became famous 40ish years ago. Trump is elected president. In a shocking development, Trump still behaves like an asshole.

      1. mad.casual   8 years ago

In a shocking development, Trump still behaves like an asshole.

I know you may find this hard to believe, but the guy has fake magazine covers of himself hanging in the clubhouses at his golf courses. They're just littered among the legitimate magazine covers and framed articles on the walls. Walls literally full of himself would be one thing but faked?!?!? It's like he's barely even trying to win at being a real asshole!

    3. LarryA   8 years ago

      not the guy we knew

      Well, yes he still is.

What Brzezinski and Scarborough still don't understand is that the election came out the way it did not because Trump fooled voters, but because Clinton failed to fool voters. Trump is still the second worst candidate.

  3. Domestic Dissident   8 years ago

It's the last day of the fiscal year for the Banana Republic of Illinois and the junior grade Obama mommas who (mis)manage it. In other words, they're almost out of time.

    1. C. S. P. Schofield   8 years ago

Yeah, but they've been almost out of time for decades. We can hope, but don't bet the farm.

      1. mad.casual   8 years ago

Yeah, I like how the critical deadline is today. If they don't get to it it's *likely* Moody's will downgrade them. I can see how the past decade of mismanagement and the complete failure to achieve a budget for the last 23 mos. would give Moody's pause.

        1. Domestic Dissident   8 years ago

By the way, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mofo himself and his wife sort of from Illinois? Yes, I'm pretty sure that in fact she grew up in Chicago and he spent several years in the Illinois senate!

Given their dual background and connections in Chicago and Illinois state politics, shouldn't Mr. and Mrs. Mofo leave their underground bunker in Kalorama for a little while, stop trying to undermine his successor, and maybe go back home and try to help save their state? Or do they simply not give a rat's ass about where they came from anymore?

          1. mad.casual   8 years ago

Or do they simply not give a rat's ass about where they came from anymore?

HRC is a native Chicagolander/Ilini as well. I figured this forgetting about/shitting on your stomping grounds was all a part of selling your soul to the DNC. Going back because there are problems would betray the whole concept of social progress.

The president's unhealthy obsession with our show has been in the public record for months, and we are seldom surprised by his posting nasty tweets about us. During the campaign, the Republican nominee called Mika "neurotic" and promised to attack us personally after the campaign ended. This year, top White House staff members warned that the National Enquirer was planning to publish a negative article about us unless we begged the president to have the story spiked. We ignored their desperate pleas.

'Mom, Dad, there's a bear in my room': Bear crashes through window in Anchorage break-in

Zach said he shot upright when he woke to the crash. He saw a figure the size of a grown man in his room. In the darkness and clamor, he struggled to make out what was near the foot of his bed. He watched it scratch at the walls and climb back through the window from which it entered before he could let out a scream and figure out what he had just witnessed ? a bear crashing in and out of his garden-level bedroom.

I had a dream there was a bear outside the window, after yelling for it to go away the damn thing came through the window and bit down on my forearm. I was screaming for help, but shit, no one wanted to risk it, I was left for bear food. I was woken up by my wife shaking me by my forearm asking "are you okay, you were screaming?" Fuck no, I'm pissed, you see who your real friends are when you're being eaten by a bear - bunch of assholes.

The next day I told my wife about the dream, including waking up to find her shaking me where the bear had me, she laughed.

Mortgage lender woos millennial buyers with one-month's supply of free avocado toast

For the entire month of July, wealth management firm SoFi will award anyone who takes out a mortgage through the service a month's worth of avocado toast, delivered straight to their door.

"Pundits have unfairly besmirched avocado toast as the reason younger Americans aren't buying homes," says Joanne Bradford, Chief Marketing Officer at SoFi. "We know that's wrong ? it's because the traditional mortgage product hasn't evolved."

Let's crowdfund a free month's supply of avocado toast so the people who love avocado leave and go to Canada, or Philadelphia, or some other living hell.

A shot across MJGreen's abnormal bow: New Braunfels man with history of 'deviant' sex acts with vegetables sentenced to life in prison

A Comal County jury sentenced the 56-year-old New Braunfels man to life in prison Wednesday on charges of drug possession and tampering with evidence after a Texas state trooper found him sitting in his truck with melted candle wax on his bare chest and a collection of meth-filled syringes, male enhancement pills, lube, children's clothing and a cooler of frozen cucumbers with him.

After Ransier was detained, troopers searched his pickup truck and found a mishmash of startling items: Barbie dolls, candy, children's clothing, balloons, baby oil, Viagra, Extenze male enhancement pills, duct tape, rope and a cooler with frozen cucumbers inside.

    1. Aloysious   8 years ago

Frozen cucumbers. You don't see those every day.

    2. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Did he dress the cucumbers up in Children's Clothes first?

Also, lifetime for possession and evidence tampering? Seems a bit much.

    3. BearOdinson   8 years ago

At first I thought the sentence was ridiculous! The guy maybe a druggie and a perv, but so what.
It turns out the guy has nine previous felony convictions, including vehicular manslaughter.

Although, I still can't understand how possession can receive a life sentence.

      1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Yeah, seems wrong. Presuming he served his time for his previous convictions.

        1. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

Probably multiple felony convictions got the life sentence.

However, back in the 70s, simple possession of any amount of marijuana was a felony subject to imprisonment from two years to life.

A report on Alex Jones' InfoWars claiming child sex slaves have been kidnapped and shipped to Mars is untrue, NASA told The Daily Beast on Thursday.

"There are no humans on Mars. There are active rovers on Mars. There was a rumor going around last week that there weren't. There are," Guy Webster, a spokesperson for Mars exploration at NASA, told The Daily Beast. "But there are no humans."

Al the posturing on the senate healthcare bill is about corralling moderates.

Repealing the ACA would be much more radical than voting for the senate bill, and threatening to do that puts significantly more pressure on moderate Republicans to pass the senate bill now. There wouldn't be any moaning about how repealing ObamaCare bill doesn't do x, y, and z.

If moderate Republicans don't vote to simply repeal when if it comes to that, the threat to their reelection won't come from opposing Democrats. The threat will come from other Republican challengers in the primaries.

The rate of incumbents winning is extremely high--for those who make it back to the general election. If you don't make it to the general election, what difference does that make? Ask all the incumbent Republicans who lost their seats to Tea Party candidates in recent elections how that works.

Moral of the story--if the moderates would rather choose between facing angry Republican primary voters or facing a general election after voting to repeal ObamaCare, then go ahead and vote against the senate bill.

Threatening to simply repeal ObamaCare makes voting for the senate health bill now the path of least resistance.

    1. BYODB   8 years ago

Umm...by 'moderate Republicans' I assume you're referring to the Progressive wing of the Republican party since nationalizing healthcare is something the Republican party was steadfastly against. You know, until they actually got into power.

Now they're just trying to put their own signature on the free bennies.

Trump saying they should repeal now, replace later is actually the best idea they've had yet.

      1. BYODB   8 years ago

Note, for example, that the so-called 'Moderate Wing' of the Republican party is for expanding Medicaid further so I'm not sure how 'moderate' they really are. If that's what we consider moderate now, we're just fucked.

        1. Ken Shultz   8 years ago

Moderate Republicans are from swing states like Pennsylvania and Ohio and from blue states like New Jersey and New York.

The New York Post finally wrote a story about twisted Reason commenter MJGreen: NYC's most 'undateable' man may have pissed off every woman in the city

Social media users turned on Peck, also 24, after his review of the dinner, published in the magazine, noted that Marino "was about five minutes late, which annoyed the s?t out of me," and he immediately saw that "she didn't have the goods." The Upper East Side resident also said he's so busy, it takes "more than just a beautiful woman to turn his head."

During what could be the worst blind date ever, when Marino ordered a steak well-done at the Greenwich Steakhouse, Peck said, "I was like, 'Live your life, but this is not Outback Steakhouse, girl.' "

He just makes me want to buy another vibrator.

I don't think that he necessarily deserves this... the column was called Undateables, so I don't know what the readers were expecting. What's funny is that lower on the report she says she ordered her entree on the recommendation of the guy and the waiter. Apparently, she is not a big meat eater, and wasn't sure how to order the filet. But I think it was also brunch, which is... I don't know. Why are you even having a first, blind date at a non-Outback restaurant?

        1. Briggie   8 years ago

He was probably desperate to impress her, or she suggested it and he did not do any research. I live in Charleston and have had women try to get a first date at a zigat rated restaurant downtown, which can get VERY expensive here. Sorry, but unless she is my girlfriend or Emma Watson, I am not dropping $200-300 on a first date.

At least when PETA has hot celebrity chicks showing Dat Ass in their ads, it's something that even people who don't agree with their agenda will enjoy.

      4. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Yes, they might be trying to fabricate a meme out of their ad -- something I could see lots of organizations trying in the future when they start being run by millennials. To have one's ad go viral and generate conversation, can you put a price to that?

  26. Crusty Juggler - Feminist   8 years ago

Out went some police officers along with three of the department's helicopters, which were auctioned online. Trash cans vanished from city parks, because when you cut 75 percent of the parks' budget, one of the things you lose is someone to empty the garbage. For a city that was founded when a wealthy industrialist planted 10,000 trees on a shadeless prairie, the suddenly sparse watering of the city's grassy lawns was a profound and dire statement of retreat.

To fill a $28 million budget hole, Colorado Springs' political leaders?who until that point might have been described by most voters as fiscal conservatives?asked citizens to triple their property taxes. Nearly two-thirds of voters said no. In response, city officials (some would say almost petulantly) turned off one out of every three street lights. That's when people started paying attention to a city that seemed to be conducting a real-time experiment in fiscal self-starvation. But that was just the prelude. The city wasn't content simply to reject a tax increase. Voters wanted something genuinely different, so a little more than a year later, they elected a real estate entrepreneur as mayor who promised a radical break from politics as usual.

What the frick is libertarian about what they did?

    1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Nothing says fiscal conservative like massive, unfillable budget holes.

      1. prolefeed   8 years ago

A libertarian paradise would not have a city run monopoly on garbage collection -- you'd pick which private company you wanted to pick up your trash, and if they did a shitty job you'd fire them.

The parks would be privately owned and run, and the entrance fees would cover the maintenance costs.

        And so on.

You'd have to be confused about how libertarianism works to think poorly run government services equals a libertarian fail.

Germany also made news another way::

"Germany passes law against online hate speech"
    [...]
" German lawmakers approved a bill on Friday aimed at cracking down on hate speech on social networks, which critics say could have drastic consequences for free speech online.
The measure approved is designed to enforce the country's existing limits on speech, including the long-standing ban on Holocaust denial. Among other things, it would fine social networking sites up to 50 million euros ($56 million) if they persistently fail to remove illegal content within a week, including defamatory "fake news.""

But the murder toll itself doesn't mean the president can send in troops, says UC Berkeley law professor John Yoo.
"Simple murder is not a violation of federal law," he said. "I don't think the conditions in Chicago have any relationship to federal law."
The only way Chicago's situation could possibly fall under the Insurrection Act, Yoo said, is if the murders also violated some aspect of federal law, such as acts committed by drug cartels or terrorists.

John Yoo? The guy who said in wartime the president becomes God and can do anything he pleases? There's a war going on here John, Trump can send in goons to crush the testicles of these people's children and you're going to defend it, remember?

  31. Rebel Scum   8 years ago

Meanwhile, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough have been taking to talk shows and The Washington Post (title: "Donald Trump is not well") in response to the president's Thursday Twitter rant insulting them.

Something about insulting someone who has insulted you does not strike me to be as damning as, say, "investigating" (threatening*) a journo that reported uncomfortable facts about one's admin.

    * This is what I told my card-carrying team blue gf when she got up in arms about this new bs. I just want to instill a sense of perspective. Also, I'm kindof amazed she puts up with me because I am generally pretty blunt and we don't have much in common politically speaking.

    1. prolefeed   8 years ago

My self-described bleeding heart liberal GF is similar. We generally avoid talking about politics, and thus get along fine.

The clip I heard was from Mika saying, "He's so easily played by a cable news host." I don't know how to read that except that she goes on TV in order to be manipulative. To the point where if I said I think her mask is slipping, it's sexist.

    "Colorado Springs - Libertarian Paradise"

Umm No. The city relies almost solely on the military and is a bastion of social conservatism. However, IIRC a few years ago they were turning off street lights at night because they couldn't afford to keep them lit. Colorado Springs is an uber right-wing shithole with a gorgeous view of the mountains.

    1. x'); DROP USER Tony;   8 years ago

I'm no right winger, and the Springs might be my favorite place I ever lived. There is a giant military presence, but the area still leans toward liberalism FAR more than not.

      1. Eric   8 years ago

Yes, there are a handful of "leave me the fuck alone" types there. But that doesn't work for a metro area of > 300k people. Basic necessities, like sidewalk maintenance, trash pick up, lit streets, etc, are neglected. Like the rest of Team Red, they love them some government, but don't want to pay for it.
You don't want libertarianism associated with that city.

I've found that teams red and blue are the same thing.

We should have never expected nor received all of these services from these assholes in the first place.

If team giant gov had privatized every one of those services above, you would have a functioning community.

We should have never expected nor received all of these services from these assholes in the first place

That can be argued, but that was never going to happen given the general direction of the country in the first half of the 20th century. In an increasingly complex society with an ever-growing population, demands for government management and oversight will inevitably increase. The key is figuring out the right balance on what the community actually needs to function and remain safe on a daily basis, versus mere indulgences that don't have anything to do with those day-to-day functions.

              1. prolefeed   8 years ago

In an increasingly complex society with an ever-growing population, demands for government management and oversight will inevitably increase.

Increasing complexity does not imply that the only solution is a few Top. Men. running things, despite them increasingly lacking the requisite knowledge to handle stuff as complexity increases.

The food supply chain has grown increasingly complex over time -- are you implying that we inevitably should have government farms and cafeterias become the sole provider of food?

Tainter discussed this in The Collapse of Complex Societies--increasing complexity brings diminishing returns over time, and generations become increasingly ill-equipped to handle it. That doesn't mean they're going to be incompetent at it from the very beginning, however.

The food supply chain has grown increasingly complex over time -- are you implying that we inevitably should have government farms and cafeterias become the sole provider of food?

Did I miss the part where we didn't have FDA inspectors or a Pure Food and Drug Act? More government oversight doesn't automatically have to mean we'll inevitably get our meals from the People's Chow Hall, supplied with food from the People's Farm Collective.

            2. Robert   8 years ago

The "team" designation in local politics bears little or no relationship to their supposed teammates in state & nat'l gov't. Basically they just choose up sides, & there's "no Democratic or Republican way to sweep the streets". The only reason for some of the politicians to even have an ideology is the hope of advancing to higher office; for the voters, no such thing.

        3. Red Rocks Baiting n Inciting   8 years ago

Colorado Springs is an uber right-wing shithole with a gorgeous view of the mountains.

It's also one of the last large cities along the Front Range that still has affordable housing that aren't total reno jobs or in quasi-ghetto shitholes--unlike, say, north Aurora.

Basic necessities, like sidewalk maintenance, trash pick up, lit streets, etc, are neglected.

This assessment is amusing because the article talks about how the mayor that replaced Bach was running the city just fine. Turns out having someone who knows what the fuck they're doing, irrespective of party, is the key to running a successful government--even in an "uber right-wing shithole."

          1. Eric   8 years ago

"It's also one of the last large cities along the Front Range that still has affordable housing that aren't total reno jobs or in quasi-ghetto shitholes--unlike, say, north Aurora."

The market drives housing prices. The demand is higher for anything with proximity to Denver, and thus housing, even shitty housing prices are going up.

Hmmm. The park's trash cans are evacuated well before overflowing, the streets are well lit, and my sidewalks are nice and flat.

Life is good here in Colorado Springs. It was good back in the recession, too. All these articles never really got the real feel of life here.

      2. mad.casual   8 years ago

I'm no right winger, and the Springs might be my favorite place I ever lived.

Just did a road trip with the kids through CO. Spent the night in the Springs. Worried that with the youngish kids, we might have to be explaining all the "Stoner's Pot Palace" and head shops. They were simultaneously more abundant and more discreet than the hooka bars and glass shops in our decidedly blue state of IL, where it isn't even really legal.

Not that CO Springs isn't dependent on free shit but that doesn't prevent other people from being rabidly and obnoxiously anti-team.

        1. Eric   8 years ago

COS (like all of the other Republican areas of the state) doesn't allow recreational MJ shops within its borders.

          1. mad.casual   8 years ago

(like all of the other Republican areas of the state) doesn't allow recreational MJ shops within its borders.

You're only reinforcing what I said about the fact that some people have to exterminate the other team from all corners and at any costs. Glass shops in IL, even entirely without marijuana (or even tobacco), are seen/portrayed as lower-class businesses. The (presuming your assertion) marijuana-free or medically-licensed glass shops in CO(S) appeared as legitimate any other business. Even in COS, you were within 10-20 driving minutes of a 'Green Cross' billboard which doesn't even exist in much of the rest of the US.

I'd say I don't care, turn the whole fucking state blue. The problem is it's just as likely to wind up as IL as anything else.

A few short hours ago, the Mofo's #1 soul brother Eric Holder sent out a cryptic tweet to his fellow loyal Obamites at the FBI and the Department of Justice.

This makes me wonder if someone big is on the verge of possibly being charged with crimes and indicted. Possibly even acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe for violating the Hatch Act and several other laws?

    Questions about Trump's "surge":

    1) Do the BATF "troops" get the same overtime pay/benefits and pension padding as CPD gets?
    2) What lucky areas lose BATF "troops" that get redeployed to Chiraq?
    3) Was the BATF purposely refusing to help CPD before?
    4) How many more surges will Trump support?
    5) Will a second surge mean the first surge was a failure? Or does it merely mean the standard "We didn't surge enough" line that bureaucratic failure always engenders?
    6) Did anyone stop to think about the last time the feds "surged" into Chiraq?
    7) If so, does this mean I should be rooting for increased homicides so that the asinine War On Drugs finally ends with "Drugs" declared the winner (ala "alcohol" being declared the winner in the War on Booze)?
