Ricky Brigante/Flickr While the United States continues down its protectionist path, other areas of the world are gaining a bit more trade freedom. Japan and the European Union are reportedly nearing a trade deal that would rollback restrictions on food and automobile imports.
- Johnny Depp issued an apology for joking about assassinating President Donald Trump during a screening of his 2004 film The Libertine at England's Glastonbury Festival. "When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?" he had asked the crowd, a reference to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
- More and more Republican senators are coming out against the Senate version of Obamacare repeal. The latest is Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada, who said in a press conference that he could not support the bill in its current form. Five Republican senators are now opposed to the bill, including Heller, which would be enough to kill its chances. Read Reason's coverage on why that would be a good thing.
- The Arab states of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, and Bahrain have presented a list of demands to Qatar which the country must satisfy to restore normalized diplomatic relations. They include shutting down its state-funded Al Jazeera news network, cutting ties with Iran, and halting the construction of a Turkish military base in its territory.

Johnny Depp issued an apology for joking about assassinating President Donald Trump...
OMG TRUMP'S BEEN NORMALIZED.
Hi.
What's that supposed to mean?
I miss you.
Whoa. No way. Sup, bacon.
Hello.
Fuck off Depp.
Don't try and tell me he didn't know better.
He was method acting.
Hollywood's political bubble doesn't seem to be serving them well.
If only they could clone Lord Rochester, The Libertine Depp porteyed, Spicey would be out of a job, and Trump would have someone to talk to.
He's desperate for cash and this was his cry for attention from Hollywood.
Consider it the dude version of a wardrobe 'malfunction.'
It's Trump's world, we just threaten in it...
Off-duty St. Louis officer injured by 'friendly fire' after police chase of stolen car
Then they all bellied up to the bar and had a good laugh about it.
If only they had team uniforms...
>>>fired his weapon *once* at the man. He hit the off-duty officer in the arm
one shot? baloney.
He was aiming at another black guy and struck this black guy.
much more likely...then, they all shot at dogs
Only once at the man. He fired an additional 20 shots into the nearby parks and school yards.
Chicks dig scars, so a single shot to the arm is just helping.
Japan and the European Union are reportedly nearing a trade deal that would rollback restrictions on food and automobile imports.
Yeah, well, they don't have Mexicans stealing their jobs.
Well, they have Filipinos.
The motorcycle nut who plowed through a crowd of Trumpcare protesters is a sleazy porn boss who boasts of 'white pride' and claims he can't be racist because he married a 'slant eye import'

Now I want to clik on that Chinese Lady Date dotcom advert.
slant eye import
Nice band name, thanks to SCOTUS.
Porch Monkey!
It's cool, I'm taking it back...
That dude is on a slippery slope.
I was told that having tattoos was the antithesis of non-white republicanism. Guess I need to recalibrate.
the antithesis of non-white republicanism
carry the two, divide by zero, conjugate the interopteral, purple monkey dishwater.....having a stroke, do not resuscitate.
Hey now, I was on the phone when I wrote that comment.
If one has a tattoo of William F. Buckley, does that count?
Seems that no one got hurt but one woman is squawking like a macaw through the whole video.
New "editor"?
Five Republican senators are now opposed to the bill, including Heller, which would be enough to kill its chances.
Unfucking health insurance in this country will take a lot longer than it took the Democrats to fuck it so far up. But it's okay, GOP. You only had half a decade to work on it.
screening 13 year-old flop Depp movies seems weak for Glastonbury...no Smiths?
I liked the Libertine, and the parts I liked about it are why it flopped.
be that as it may...no Stooges?
"Senate probes Loretta Lynch's alleged interference in Clinton email investigation
Gah! Link!
We might find out at the end of it all that Hillary Clinton is even less president.
Only if we find somebody with the guts to probe Hillary Clinton.
/NOT IT!
This is the exact type of wetwork that we have Crusty for.
Not in that desiccated windsock.
There are so many goddam government scandals going on. I'm impressed that congress still has time to enact horrible laws.
I can't remember the last time I heard a policy discussion.
It's great, isn't it? That's the real gift that Trump keeps on giving to libertarians.
Bonus: he does seem to get around to killing regulations and appointing conservative judges.
...and halting the construction of a Turkish military base in its territory.
Wouldn't that unnormalize relations with the Turks? Quite a pickle.
...during a screening of his 2004 film The Libertine at England's Glastonbury Festival.
The most offensive part of the story.
That movie could be the autobiography of most of the commenters here.
Is Depp the Red Fool?
So the GOP are gonna back off a stupid law the Dems passed without a single GOP vote? Show some balls man! This should be the perfect 'fuck you back' moment for them!
'Transformers: The Last Knight' Review
I am by no means a cinema snob, but these movies are atrocious.
Not only is this an un-American sentiment, it is almost equivalent to thinking Deep Impact is better than Armageddon.
Deep Impact is better than Armageddon. Like Nolan Batman vs. Schumacher Batman better.
ARMAGEDDON IS ONE OF THE TOP TEN MOVIES OF ALL TIMES.
And this is why people shouldn't be allowed to vote.
That and Coldplay.
I honestly can't even tell them apart. I forget which one I'm watching by the 20 minute mark.
I don't know why you would willingly display your ignorance for all to see.
the best part was when Tea Leoni got the Poseidon-facial.
*googles*
Like Nolan Batman vs. Schumacher Batman better.
So you're saying the Scuhmcher Batman were superior to the Nolan Batman?
I didn't see Deep Impact impact because it didn't have Bruce Willis in it.
Thank you.
And Armageddon didn't have Morgan Freeman's voice.
We have Shawshank Redemption for that.
And there are a number of movies for Bruce Willis that don't suck like Armageddon.
Not lately, there aren't.
I have a friend who thinks these movies are the greatest thing ever. He also voted for Clinton. I don't think that's a coincidence. He is the epitome of the West Coast Liberal who struts his sophistication and nuance, yet thinks the height of cinema is Michael Bay.
at least he isn't a hipster.
He only enjoys Michael Bay movies ironically.
I believe there was a movie a few years ago that depicted the 'assassination' of GWB, even incorporated his image into the victim.
Now if Depp had been a comedian rather than an actor maybe he would not have had to apologize.
Similarly, if Trump had been a comedian instead of POTUS his joke about 'tapes' in the middle of a Nixon media ejaculation would not have been taken so seriously.
Any non-comedian making jokes is obviously in contravention of some certification protocol. Just remember that the next time a comment comes to mind.
OTOH, Depp is exhibiting TDS 🙂
What other intellectual insights did Johnny Depp offer up? I'm super interested in his opinions.
Seattle PD decides to make itself more popular with the kids by putting videos on Twitch of officers playing videogames while talking about law enforcement issues.
They were surprised that people are upset by the latest one, which featured an officer playing a first person shooter while discussing the recent police shooting of a pregnant mother in her own home.
Video of gaming Seattle officer discussing shooting removed
Describing it as a "Sick double kill" was in poor taste.

"Officer McNew is a crisis intervention specialist"
None of which have anything to do with terrorism and completely to do with maintaining the status quo for the existing powers. Nice job breaking it, USA.
"Repeal." You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Heller, the most vulnerable GOP senator up for reelection next year, raised doubt about whether he would support any phaseout of the federal funds for Medicaid expansion, even over a longer timeline, as some other moderate GOP senators favor.
"You have to protect Medicaid expansion states. That's what I want," he said.
And a free pony.
It's a real catch-22 with Heller.
+1 Hungry Joe
"You have to protect my phony baloney job. That's what I want," he said.
"More and more Republican senators are coming out against the Senate version of Obamacare repeal. The latest is Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada, who said in a press conference that he could not support the bill in its current form. Five Republican senators are now opposed to the bill, including Heller, which would be enough to kill its chances."
I think this is . . . um . . . not an excellent attempt at characterizing the situation.
"In its current form" is the operative phrase there. All five, that I'm aware of, have said more or less the same thing--that they want this change or that change. Rand Paul didn't say he was against it. He said he wanted x, y, and z.
The chances of Cruz and Paul being the only two Republicans who stood firm and killed the ObamaCare repeal are far fetched. Anyone who thinks Cruz or Paul will kill the best chance of repealing ObamaCare--and then turn around and win the nomination for President in the Republican primaries--must think Cruz and Paul are stupid.
It's good to see liberarianish Republicans make the libertarian case for not supporting the bill in so far as that lets the moderates know that they can't keep the ObamaCare Medicaid expansion and get the votes to pass it, but all that opposition dries up when it's time to vote. Neither Cruz nor Paul wants to be the guy that immortalized ObamaCare.
Wanting this change or that change to the current form means they are against the bill as is. What's going to be difficult for McConnell is getting the Cruz, Paul, Lee, Johnson contingent on board while also not alienating the moderates. Heller is the only one from that wing of the party who has, thus far, come out against it, but there are still a few others (Collins, Murkowski, etc.) who are potential if not likely "no" votes. And they have to get it through the House again.
"Wanting this change or that change to the current form means they are against the bill as is."
It simply isn't.
It's brinkmanship between the two wings of the party.
It's negotiating.
People keep reporting what these guys said and then freelancing about what it means.
It needs to be more like this; it needs to be more like that . . .
They're trying to influence the final bill (which will need to be ironed out in a join committee anyway), and they're fishing for favors.
Trump may call up Heller and tell him he'll delay any action on Yucca mountain or that they'll do something expensive at Nellis. Heller making these kinds of announcements is probably horse trading, and no one who knows what they're talking about expects to see Cruz or Rand Paul be the ones standing in the way of repealing ObamaCare. And if they do, that's exactly what their opponents on the primary trail will accuse them of.
"Trump may call up Heller and tell him he'll delay any action on Yucca mountain or that they'll do something expensive at Nellis. "
That would be too nuanced. Trump would probably just accuse Heller of having a tiny penis.
I suspect Cruz will end up voting for it, and really it's very possible Paul will as well. I'm hopeful that both of them will actually do what they said, but this will be a Presidential litmus test for both of them as far as I'm concerned. Cruz is already more or less disqualified because I think he's a lying jagoff, but there's still hope for Paul.
I guess you'd have to call this the anti-nut punch story of the day.
"Six inmates were doing maintenance work at a cemetery on a hot and humid day, as part of a work program, when a deputy sheriff suddenly collapsed. Some might have viewed this as an opportunity to escape. Instead, the inmates made a split-second decision to save the deputy's life.
The deputy, whom the Polk County Sheriff's Office declined to name, was briefly unconscious. He was particularly susceptible to the heat because of complications from a brain surgery nearly 10 years ago, the sheriff said. Some of the inmates immediately ran over, ripped the deputy's shirt open and removed his bulletproof vest to make it easier for emergency workers to perform CPR. One of the inmates dialed 911.
"When that happened, in my opinion, it wasn't about who is in jail and who wasn't," Greg Williams, one of the inmates, told WXIA in Atlanta. "It was about a man going down, and we had to help him.""

+6 Old-timey prisoner outfits
Its also about the sort of offenders who get chosen to serve on maintenance work crews outside the prison. They're not the sort of people that the prison thinks will make a run for it because of a moment's inattention from the guard. If you're serving a two year sentence for pot possession then its really not in your long-term interest to make a break for it even if the guard says 'fuck it, I quit' and walks off leaving you alone.
Though I don't know how much effort I would have put in to first aid if I were in that situation - so props to those cons for that.
They truly were smarter than a bag of hammers.
Maybe other complications from the brain surgery made him inattentive and they were able to get away with stuff that they couldn't with other guards so they didn't want him to be replaced with some needledick jerk.
I'll just leave a nut punch here.

Re: trade deal that would rollback restrictions on food and automobile imports.
"Rollback" is a noun. "To roll back (two separate words) is the verb.
You know who else was a (grammar) Nazi?
Obviously not conversant in SQL.
Lacks Committment
Heller is the POS that sponsored the delay to "Cadillac Tax" - so a whore to public/private sector unions, but no concern for the people from whom he is stealing.
Just so we are all clear - Christian is a PORTLAND STATE grad (Poli Sci.) - so much for Libertarian...
So, we are assuming that anyone who graduates from Portland State can't be a libertarian?

Imagine a British actor came to the US and started making jokes about assassinating May or Juncker; he'd get blank stares at best and embarrassed coughing at worst.
What kind of inferiority complex drives Europeans to obsess so much over US presidents and politics? Seems to me they have their plate full with their own loser politicians and their own massive social and economic problems.
