i've been listening to both of these people yap for years and i never picked up on some major point of disagreement. Is it something to do with NATO and Europe? I have some vague recollection that Matt and Mike, perhaps because of their european-significant-others, tend to believe that security-obligations for the continent are not to be lightly dismissed, or something like that. Could be wildly wrong.

I think there's only ever "holding journalism responsible" when the media outlets police each other.

With trump in office, no one is going to police the other for getting shit wrong. Short of some 'Aluminum tubes' type thing.

I mean, look at how no one said shit about the WaPo's "Russians hacked the energy grid" story except for Glenn Greenwald. It was one of the most epic-retarded things since Orson Welles "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast, and everyone simply pretended nothing happened and moved on. Or how CNN had Donna Brazille on staff and pretended to be surprised there was collusion between the Clinton campaign and themselves. And on and on. The standards have fallen into the gutter and everyone still pretends they're classy truth-to-power speakers who deserve fancy dinners celebrating themselves, and get angry when the president doesn't treat them seriously.

basically, i see fewer and fewer repercussions for 'getting shit wrong'. Which is why i assume that the current stories based on anonymous leaks are all completely subjective horseshit being spun to reinforce a pre-existing narrative.
