Report: Trump Gave Russian Ambassador 'Highly Classified Information' About ISIS
"I get great intel, I have people brief me on great intel every day," Trump said, before sharing too much of it.

President Donald Trump shared "highly classified" intelligence with two Russian government officials—jeoparding the U.S.'s already contentious relationship with the source of said intelligence.
This happened during a meeting between Trump and Sergei Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, the Russian Ambassador, at the White House—just one day after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating potential links between Russia and the Trump campaign.
An ISIS plot was the subject of the intelligence, according to The Washington Post, which broke the story. The Post redacted significant details of the plot, including the name of the city where the intelligence was gathered. The city is within ISIS territory, and if the intelligence became public, ISIS might be able to determine the identity of the people or organization providing the U.S. with the information.
Trump, on the other hand, exercised no such caution, according to The Post. He was apparently eager to share it with Kislyak and Lavrov. ""I get great intel," he said at the meeting. "I have people brief me on great intel every day."
Indeed:
The information the president relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.
The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said Trump's decision to do so endangers cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State. After Trump's meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and the National Security Agency.
Some are already calling this "a firing offense," or potentially "treason." But even The Post admits that Trump probably didn't break the law: the president gets to decide what information he shares with leaders of foreign governments. And we don't know who the sources are, or whether they characterized the intelligence correctly.
Many will no doubt interpret this revelation as yet more evidence that Trump is at best a Russian stooge, and at worst, a willing participant in a vast conspiracy orchestrated by Moscow. An independent investigation, which Reps. Justin Amash and Eric Swalwell have called for, still seems like the best way to resolve the question. In the meantime, gross incompetence and stupidity, exacerbated by a sociopathic need to make inappropriate boasts (the best intelligence, everyone says so), still seem like the most logical explanations. One might have expected that in the wake of the Access Hollywood tapes, Trump had learned his lesson about making rash statements to random public figures, but apparently not. Or maybe the lesson he learned was that he truly can get away with anything.

But even The Post admits that Trump probably didn't break the law: the president gets to decide what information he shares with leaders of foreign governments.
Yeah, there is that little legal problem of the President being the ultimate classification authority. Regardless, if they're not going to bring charges against Hillary for her blatant disregard for InfoSec laws, then Trump can always claim that he wasn't aware that he couldn't share that information even if it's a blatant lie and he knew exactly what he was doing. Guess Comey shouldn't have set that legal precedent after all.
The 'Hilary defence' tactic.
Yep - the ol' "Sorry, I didn't mean to do it" defense.
I am making $89/hour working from home. I never thought that it was legitimate but my best friend is earning $10 thousand a month by working online, that was really surprising for me, she recommended me to try it. You will lose nothing, just try it out on the following website.
Quit making shit up.
Quit pretending you know shit about classified info procedures and pay your bet, shitheap.
Would you accept a trillion dollar coin?

Heil Hillary! Schlappe heil!

I find your opinions intriguing and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
For all of Trump's stupid moves to hyperventilate over, this really doesn't seem like one.
As is usual with an intelligence story containing redacted information, we, the people, don't have enough facts to make that determination one way or the other. It could be really nothing at all or it could be a legit blunder with real consequences.
With the nature of Trump, the media and the deep state, either is plausible.
Agreed. That's why I think "gross incompetence and stupidity, exacerbated by a sociopathic ..." comes off as silly preening. Even assuming the worst here, it's hard to really get shaken over the possibility that he shared information about a common enemy with an ally.
I wonder if FDR shared any intel with the USSR.
I wonder if Tu Quoque is a logical fallacy.
Yeah, let's do another Benghazi hearing. Ninth time would be the charm
It was all just a youtube video...
I have a theory that Trump sincerely believes that he can make at least half of the press corps heads explode if he pull enough stunts.
I tend to think it was leaked by some mid-level Deep State intel bureaucrat who got pissed that Trump didn't get his seal of approval before giving the info to the Russians, even though the alphabet-soup agency for which he works would have given out the same info had Trump asked.
The big benefit to Trump is that the Deranged Media are going to spin this into an impeachable offense, even though no laws were broken, thus damaging their credibility even further.
Slurp that thug!

"Many will no doubt interpret this revelation as yet more evidence that Trump is at best a Russian stooge, and at worst, a willing participant in a vast conspiracy orchestrated by Moscow."
Or, as most of the evidence points to, Trump is a galloping bag of ignorance and ego completely unbound by common sense and without the most basic knowledge demanded of a White House intern let alone the occupant of the Oval Office.
Not sure if this option is better or worse than stooge or conspirator. Fuck a duck, how the hell can anyone compare him to Nixon? Tricky Dick drunk out his ass was a better communicator with a better grasp of national policy and international relations than this embarrassing chump on his best fake-tanned day.

"Some are already calling this "a firing offense," or potentially "treason." But even The Post admits that Trump probably didn't break the law: the president gets to decide what information he shares with leaders of foreign governments."
Ever see people both dive into the breach headfirst and backpedal at the same time?
Now you have!
If and when Trump does something truly awful, the general public will have already become so sick of hearing wolf cried so many freakin' times . . .
I read an article at WSJ today, admitting that Trump's poll numbers hadn't slumped in the wake of the Comey scandal. Was there anyone outside of progressives politics and the beltway who really thought that was a scandal?
Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!
Again, Trump didn't just win despite the efforts of the press to take him down--Trump won because of the efforts of the press to take him down. And if the WH press corps. doesn't figure it out soon, they're gonna ensure he's reelected, too. No wonder the Trump campaign hardly had to spend any money!
Pathetic man. I guess if Trump took a dump on your face you'd thank him for the free mud bath.
so where is he wrong? The media's idiocy WAS a big reason why Trump; its continued foolishness IS a reason his supporters are still there. And there is the quoted part in the post - WaPo desperately wants it both ways but realizes only one way is possible.
Just as an aside to wareagle . . .
Remember when ENB ran that story about a porn star (who specialized in gang bang and bukkake videos) joining Gloria Allred's suit against Trump for his degrading behavior towards her--because when she accepted his invitation to his hotel room, he greeted her by kissing her on the cheek without asking?
They were running stories about how Trump's campaign people were behaving like Nazi brownshirts at his Nurmeberg style rallies. Remember that girl who ruined Breitbart forever by leaving in protest? LOL
Some progressives may find this hard to believe, but FDR actually coordinated military strategy with none other than Joseph Stalin--OH MY! When it's in our best interests to do that, that's what we should do.
Trump came into the White House promising to coordinate with Russia over ISIS in Syria. It's not as if Russia were collaborating with ISIS. My god, it's the one thing Russia, Syria, the U.S., Hezbollah, and Iran all agree on--fighting ISIS.
If we don't want Trump to:
1) launch a bombing campaign in Syria against ISIS
2) Arm anti-ISIS rebels in Syria
3) Invade Syria
or 4) Give the Russians actionable intelligence on ISIS within Syria so they can act on it?
. . . then, for goodness' sake, don't complain about Trump doing absolutely nothing about ISIS--because that's the only option he has left.
And believe me, if Trump did absolutely nothing on ISIS, the MSM would be hammering him for that, too.
Look, I understand that seeing a nuanced position on anything at all these days is highly irregular. Considering Ken's got about a million words written on this site, though, it doesn't seem much to ask that one reflect for the briefest of moments before shrieking that anyone not with you is taint-snarfing That Other Team.
I suppose if WaPo shit in your ear you'd thank them for the great insight.
+1 Cleveland steamer
You don't have to like it for it to be true. I know I'd prefer it if the MSM wasn't so crazed, but there it is.
Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into this. Preparing for a hot night, with your boyfriend wearing a Trump Mask? Do you call it the Trump Dump?
And he is going to slash the budget! And he is going to build the wall! And he is going to end all wars! And he is going to drain the swamp!
Are you mocking the media for going all TDS, too?
I knew you'd catch on eventually. You're smarter than people give you credit for!
Nibble that Cheeto!
"I get great intel," he said at the meeting. "I have people brief me on great intel every day."
Okay, if you're going to make up a story about a president, at least make the dialogue believable. What Commander-in-Chief would talk like that?
Didn't Trump say he was so smart he didn't need a national security briefing every day? Now apparently he gets "great intel" every day?
There's the scandal. Where's the outrage over that?
Finally, someone connects the dots.
Just to be clear: is this my Trump Outrage? talking point for today?
steve walsh|5.15.17 @ 7:28PM|#
"Just to be clear: is this my Trump Outrage? talking point for today?"
Not sure.
This morning Pravda had a front-page space regarding how the CA congress critters were now in very strong positions since Trump did something or other. So maybe that was the one for today.
At least in SF where Pav (OOOPS) The Chronicle is delivered.
Oh, and there was also a front-page article on how 'affordable housing" makes everyone wonderful and wealthy!
The left has clearly shot their load on this. Treason?
I have not laughed this hard since the last ridiculous thing the lefty media said.
Where exactly is the story in this article? Someone says Trump shared top secrets with the Russians in his attempt to cooridnate the war against ISIS? Are we supposed to be upset? I'm surprised you're still alive after laughing this hard. This is the TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) run amok. NOW, the left can truly claim they've caught Trump conspiring with the Russians, right? Donald Trump, the Alger Hiss of this century? Shouldn't he be executed just like Julius Rosenberg?
What if it turned out that FDR shared secrets with the Russians in the 1940's?
How would that affect public perception of him?
How would that affect public perception of him?
Based on current perception, it's pretty low on the list of things people dislike him for. Besides, there were so many Soviet spies and comm-symps operating in his administration he hardly needed to share much with them on his own.
Yesterday or the day before?
Trump is at best a Russian stooge
This is just ridiculous. Trump isn't a bit Russian.
Not true. He's Curleyovich.
Hey Robby, since you are such a big fan of "to be sure" and "nevertheless" and "even if" type statements, perhaps you can include this one from NSA General McMaster in your story?
"The story that came out tonight, as reported, is false"
That's one way to read his statement.
I'm not sure how you can parse that: He basically called the Post's story a steaming pile of bullshit.
Either McMaster is lying, or the Post is lying.
"as reported"
"at no time were intelligence sources or methods discussed" (from the article: "[Trump] did not reveal the specific intelligence-gathering method")
The Post reporter says the White House (McMaster) is playing word games.
Who do you trust? My guess: whichever side you trusted earlier in the day. However, the Post reporter is (in my opinion) obviously correct, because I assume he was told by more than one source about what Trump said.
It's just another in a long line of unnecessary, stupid, behavior by Trump and/or his people, which may not be criminal, but at the very least it is another hurdle he has to conquer in order to achieve his retarded goals.
Speaking of "word games", you will notice that in the story you linked the reporter didn't address McMaster's flat-out statement that the story is false.
When I call a story false, like Shikha's recent fantasy about Indian-Americans being rounded up by the Trumpsatzgruppen, that generally means it's false.
I'm sure there will be more information tomorrow that won't change the minds of anyone.
Said completely unironically.
Speaking of "word games", you will notice that in the story you linked the reporter didn't address McMaster's flat-out statement that the story is false.
He did, by calling it "word games."
That's not addressing the statement, that's making an assertion. He needs to point out what word games were played.
Who do you trust?
and there's the problem. Between a media that keeps finding new ways of eroding its credibility and an administration likely to say anything on any given day, neither has earned trust.
Did I get this right? You think the reporter is obviously correct because you assume he got his information from more than one source?
I'm crazy, so I choose to believe that some reporters are actual reporters who report stories after they have been fact-checked to the best of their ability.
I don't think the media is a monolithic being that exists just to make the president look bad.
Also, the president unnecessarily running his mouth in order to brag about something is completely believable.
It has unnamed sources so you know it's good!
The trick is to figure which reporters are among the "some" we should believe and which are not.
The problem is that based on a chain of mere assumptions, opinions, and beliefs, you're claiming something is "obvious".
The problem is that based on a chain of mere assumptions, opinions, and beliefs, you're claiming something is "obvious".
I don't think the media is a monolithic being that exists just to make the president look bad.
Clearly you are no Republican libertarian.
FAKE NEWS.
FAKE NEWS!
I served in the Cavalry, and gout out in 08. I've heard McMaster's name for YEARS, and ALWAYS in a positive light. That is incredibly rare in the military.
I'll take his word over WashPo's 10 times out of 10. Especially on Trump/Russia, an area WashPo has been caught lying red-handed on multiple occasions already.
I originally assumed this story was completely true. "Reveals classified info while talking shit" sounds EXACTLY like dumbshit's MO. But McMaster's word carries muuuuuuch more weight than anyone at WashPo's.
What's "retarded" is that you reach such conclusions based on almost no information.
the Post reporter is (in my opinion) obviously correct, because I assume
Nice word vomit you made there.
These 'retarded goals--
"Will Donald Trump Be the Most Deregulatory President Ever?"
Because those are the kind of retarded goals that libertarians have been fighting decades for--the goals you seem to want fall in line with others....more 'retarded' others.
Hey Robby, since you are such a big fan of "to be sure" and "nevertheless" and "even if" type statements, perhaps you can include this one from NSA General McMaster in your story?
"The story that came out tonight, as reported, is false"
It was so important, I had to say it twice!
"As reported". That doesn't sound a bit like a shitweasel.
A lazy shitweasel.
While this is certainly plausible & I'm inclined to believe it's true, I think it's irresponsible for Reason to write stories as if allegations from anonymous intelligence officials are proven facts.
It's Robby. You'll get used to it.
sigh
Take heart. 2Chili's got something excellent that'll show up whenever the squirrels get around to it or something.
I enjoyed the Freaky Friday video.
I'm not understanding why this is a big deal. Both the US and Russians are fighting ISIS. If he wants to share classified info regarding that fight, well, that's possibly a good thing if it actually helps in the fight against ISIS
I mean, it's not like he gave them the plans fo the F-22 or something (though it's not like we are doing anything with them anymore)
Dude, if you read the stories and you'd find out why sharing this information with the Russians was a mistake. We obtained the information from another source who expected us to keep this information confidential. So there's a great source of ISIS intel who now may hesitant to share future intel with us because Trump can't keep his mouth shut. But you know this had you read the new reports.
MAGA! DRAIN THE SWAMP!

Actually, it's a proven fact that every other group is more intelligent and literate than progressives. Your kind are truly earwigs amongst gods. Best you just kneel before your betters and let the non-marxists do the thinking.
They're happy with just a little rice and rat meat.
We obtained the information from another source who expected us to keep this information confidential. So there's a great source of ISIS intel who now may hesitant to share future intel with us because Trump can't keep his mouth shut
The fuck you know about how intel is gathered, drama queen?
This.
Some anonymous person leaked information, self-admittedly that was classified, to a reporter in the name of ...? This type of reporting is how we end up with Jackie and the Rolling Stones. Information should be vetted and analyzed for numerous things including bias. The result of this story is more "white noise" from the press about the President. At some point the press might have something really damnable they want to share (think Pentagon Papers/Watergate) and ostensibly they would want Americans to believe them.
All they are accomplishing is making people that like Trump to firmly believe the liberal media has a bias and can't be trusted, or people like me that don't like Trump feel the media has a clear liberal bias and can't be trusted. This type of non-inclusive tactic is partly how we ended up with Trump (not trying to discount or oversimplify the ineptitude of Team D last election).
So there's a great source of ISIS intel who now may hesitant to share future intel with us because Trump can't keep his mouth shut.
Oh, so the source was there in the room too and listened to Trump revealing his info? Or the source has no idea that his info was hypothetically shared
Well they wouldn't have known, but now that the WaPo is running this story, they will.
It's Trump's fault that he didn't assume what he said would be leaked to the WaPo.
So this is totally different from manning or snowden because...
It is not.
Snowden should face trial for treason.
The US president is under no legal or political obligation to meet the expectation of foreign sources.
Since you're so wise, why don't you run for president?
Maybe he believes in the Constitution. Automatically disqualified.
So an anonymous source knows what was said better than those in the room? Nice critical thinking skills. New reports? From which objective outlets? WaPo? CNN? NYT? You're so easily led by the nose.
I'll repost this from the pm linkies.
David Post over at Volokh has gone full retard, wanting to invoke section 4 of the 25th Amendment:
I had better opinions of the Volokh Conspirators, other than Stewart Baker and a couple who only come out of the woodwork to cry "Anti-Semitism" every time there's the slightest disparagement of anything Israel. This one takes the cake.
He went full retard a while back. I've never been clear why Post was at volokh in the first place. Every other writer is either a libertarian or a conservative.
Also hilarious, to the left, the Rosenbergs are heroes.
But hey, nuclear weapons are no big deal, at least in the hands of anyone besides the US, not at all like possibly helping fight islamic terrorism, which we all know is the US's fault and we just need to give them hugs and invite them all over to live.
And this is all from some "unnamed source" which experience says is either lying or flat out doesn't exist.
Yup, except for all the times that it did. Like how "Deep Throat" did not exist for the Nixon scandal.
Or "Jackie"
Well the WP is blocking me but this appears to be more unnamed sources giving them what they want. And Robby was left to fill column inches with boilerplate crap about Putin's stooge, Comey, and even dusted off Access Hollywood. Sad. Think I'll wait til AM to pass judgement.
Unnamed sources equals fictional bullshit.
Trump stole ice-cream from a little girl and gave it to....the Russians!!!!

That's because their leader can't.
NOT ILLEGAL! NOT ILLEGAL! FAKE NEWS!
"...but her emails..."
Wait! Why has reason.com not mentioned Obama in this? Surely there was something he did that forced Drumpf to do this!
I still don't get why you retards think "Drumpf" is a clever insult. It's like Mikey and his "Block Hussein Yomamma" or whatever the fuck he was on about, except stupider, because there really isn't anything insulting about "Drumpf". "Haha, I called you by your ancestor's surname!" Pathetic. At least go with something that's moderately funny, like "President Weasel Hair", fer fuckin sakes.
I wondered about that myself so I consulted the Urban Dictionary:
drumpf
Drumpf: a serial liar. also--the the sound produced when a morbidly obese pigeon flies into the window of a foreclosed Old Navy. Coined by John Oliver on The John Oliver Show in "tribute" to a certain presidential candidate.
The low frequency sound made by a sudden release of Santorum from the receiving partner's anus after a session of anal sex.
The original last name of Donald Trump's family before it was changed to Trump. Discovered by Jon Oliver.
Make Donald Drumpf again.
I consulted the Urban Dictionary:
Which is the closest you'll ever get to the black community without getting your ass beat.
So, utterly irrelevant then.
It's moments like this where the intellectual weakness and stupidity of PB's insights are truly breathtaking.
Urban Dictionary ... every entry peer reviewed.
Unfortunately, PB is part of that peer group, so you get what you get.
Yes, it's the comment thread equivalent of pissing down your leg and giggling about it.
It's the same as "Democrat Party." It's an annoying but meaningless gesture that is intended to annoy one's opponents but really doesn't achieve that goal at all. (My personal favorite name for Trump is "Cheeto Mussolini" or "Cheeto Benito." I see no point in being coy with my childish abuse.)
I'd disagree, because Democrats really do seem to get annoyed by "Democrat Party" for reasons I do not understand
They do, sometimes downright enraged.
A good friend of mine is a crazed liberal. Before Trump was nominated, he and his wife lectured me endlessly about how "we might as well anoint Hillary now because the election is a lock".
After Trump (or Drumpf if you prefer) was nominated they could barely contain their contempt for the rubes. I tried to explain my own revulsion with Hillary and with the divisive politics, most of it racist, of the Democrats and to point out that I thought Hillary could not win, even against Trump. They looked at me as if I were a specimen in a jar, and treated me like the knuckle dragging retard that I am.
Once, I innocently referred to the "Democrat party" and was instantly scorned as a low brow.
I have not met a single progressive that has learned anything from the election in 2016, or from the years-long crash of the Democrat party (smirk) since Obama was risen.
Because I am not a mean-spirited person, i.e. a Democrat, I have not taunted them with an "I told you so" since Drumpf was elected, but I have been tempted.
I voted for Drumpf. There was no other acceptable choice.
The assholes could have run Jim Webb. He likely would have won and would be a survivable choice. However the progtard trash gazed upon him with horror during the primary. As anyone showing the slightest bit of character is anathema to those marxist parasites.
Webb would have won in a 49+ state landslide.
I suspect even Martin O' Malley could have beaten Trump.
Do you guys really believe this? That some other democrat could have won?
No.
Once Trump tossed his hat into the ring it was over. I said so then, and prepared accordingly.
This is how I see it. Even if they had flopped Kaine/Hillary (I know it isn't this simple) they would have probably won. Team D anointed Hillary (referring to evidence from leaks ect) and did their best to get her to a national election. Unfortunately, she was probably the only candidate that Trump could win against.
Jim Webb would have gotten my vote just like he did back in the day when he ran in Va. The Democratic Party needs to espouse the principles of classic liberalism and jettison the progressive agenda.
They get angry because it highlights that the name is not based on anything truly democratIC. As they are just a thinly veiled hive mind of marxist trash.
In NY at least, the official party name is "Democrat". Other party names (Republican, Conservative, Libertarian) don't have this problem, as the words are equally noun & adjective. Apparently Democrats are stuck with a noun party name that gets used attributively.
I go with "Naranja Peron".
Gotta give it to DanO.: General Cheeto is kinda funny.
You might be the smartest person here.

At which time he might have the temerity to beat up on a frail old woman.
The President makes the rules. Not anonymous sources.
This thread sucks. I am going back to reading Chelsea's book.
Manning?
I thought the libertarian position was that we shouldn't be fighting wars in ISIS territory.
In which case we don't give a fck who says what to whom about wars we shouldn't be fighting. Everyone involved has agency. If they get killed, that is on them. Whoever them is.
If the USA & Russia can help each other vs. ISIS, who better than the prez to decide what intelligence to share? Isn't that part of what he's elected for? Should it all be done by the Deep State?
"President Donald Trump shared "highly classified" intelligence with two Russian government officials?jeoparding the U.S.'s already contentious relationship with the source of said intelligence."
Again. Where is the proof? And do reporters understand how classified info works?
If an Intel agency had proof of extra-terrestrial aliens the POTUS might not be told. Why? It's on a need to know basis. Everyone in Wash. D.C. media pool should know this. I'm an ex-Navy cook and I know this. Methods and means would NEVER be discussed with the POTUS.
DRUMPF IS A SLEEPER CELL!
This was reported by WaPo. It is almost certainly a lie in that case. Fake news.
Sad.
On a related note, FDR gave Stalin a shitload of "highly classified information" about the Nazis. Pretty sure it's up to the executive to decide what information to share or not share.
-jcr
If Trump is as stupid as FDR, we do have problems. That imbecile famously claimed that Stalin 'had no designs on more territory'.
We'll ignore his criminal negligence in keeping Truman in the dark.
I mentioned FDR since he's a demigod to the leftards who are losing their shit over this.
-jcr
"Some are already calling this "a firing offense," or potentially "treason." But even The Post admits that Trump probably didn't break the law:..."
OK, I'm starting this with "I didn't vote for the guy but he kept the hag from screwing the population for the next four years": "IDVFTG.."
So what is "this"? Address that and you'll get an honest response.
Did he hand over the address of the hooker the ISIS guy likes? Did he tell them they sneak a whiskey at XX Raghead Lane? Maybe he told them we busted the ISIS code?
"Highly classified information"? Like the name of Putin's dog?
Until then, you're just one more turd whining that the hag lost.
Robbie, this is one of the slimiest pieces I've ever seen on the Reason web site.
No, seriously Robby, you're a pathetic "journalist" with a skill set equal to a Daily Show intern. Are you lost? Shouldn't Buzzfeed be your employer, not Reason? I'm astounded at how easily and frequently you can piggyback a WAPO article with nothing more than ANONYMOUS sources and still feel you're worthy of a paycheck. This has nothing to do with Trump, it has to deal with your near plagiarism of WAPO and NYT. You're not a journalist, you're a regurgitator. You don't investigate. You don't check other references. You provide the same information one could get from a two second google search. Sorry reason, no more donations for you if this is where my money goes(Robby's pocket.)
Yeah, he is a lazy shit, isn't he? You hit the nail on the head.
No, I did read a good piece by him right here a few days ago. But although the present piece is one of shit, I have the strong impression orders have come to crank out all they have to throw mud on Trump. When the well runs out of mud, they can throw only air. So shit, mud, & air is what we're gonna get. I can't blame Mr. Soave for filling his position as conveyor belt.
And we don't know who the sources are, or whether they characterized the intelligence correctly.
Buried in the fourth paragraph we have the most important line of the story. Heckuva job, Robbie.
Everybody who has gone on record and was present at the meeting says this report is bullshit. McMaster has no reason to lie, and the Washington comPost has shown itself completely willing to lie for the leftist cause.
If you seriously think the national security council advisor, his deputy, and the secretary of state were all just standing there listening to Trump hand classified info over to the Russians and are now covering up for him, you better have some better evidence than hearsay from anonymous sources.
Also I'm curious how the Post sources identified as former officials still have access to classified information, which they would have to have in order to determine whether what Trump said was classified.
Indeed it's hilarious to see Reason getting its panties in a bunch about alleged revelations of classified intelligence methods when they have lionized Bradley Manning and Ed Snowden for years.
In the Post's defense, the Post never lionized Manning or Snowden.
That's just harsh.

Matt, KMW,
Pieces like this are why you've lost the best part of your audience.
If by "lost best part" you mean the whiny, petulant Republican diaspora known as the Glibertarians (I am not making up that name) then most people here would say "Good riddance." They are not missed.
Trudat.
Coming from a whiny, petulant Democrat, that makes the comment 100% projection. Impressive.
I think he means 'best' as in 'you've lost the best part of that crop'.
He means 'largest' part--as the numbers clearly show.
Both largest and most articulate.
Mostly scum like danno and goax are left here. Matt and KMW deserve better, but chased them away.

Trump Revealed Highly Classified Intelligence to Russia, in Break With Ally, Officials Say
Lock him up! Lock him up!

Prez releases secrets = legal. SecState releases secrets = crime.
Or is that too complex for you?
I never would have expected this from Reason. I went straight to the source, The Washington Post, which makes this bold accusation, but left me wondering how they would be in a position to know what happened at the meeting. They refer only to "officials". The people who were at the meeting an are on record, say nothing of the sort happened. Did the Post make any effort to corroborate any of this? Apparently not. Corroboration is so 20th century.
I can explain it to you. There are these thing called "leaks." Leaks are statements from officials and others in-the-know that are revealed to reporters on the condition that the leakers' identities are kept secret in order to avoid retribution from higher-ups. General Cheeto's utter incompetence as Chief Executive has precipitated an extraordinarily leaky administration as his own employees as well as career government workers are shocked and appalled at his reckless disregard for the office and the citizens he serves. Hope this helps!
extraordinarily leaky administration
Compared to what? Obama's people leaked info all the goddamn time.
his own employees
The entire 1.5 million-strong Federal workforce were all hired 6 months ago?
Claims from anonymous sources without external corroboration are just hearsay.
"Claims from anonymous sources without external corroboration are just hearsay."
THIS! After 6 months of investigating we still have no corraborated evidence or one person willing to go on the record. It's all bullfeathers!
Really? The Washington Post?
Let's see;
WaPo, whose date line is suspect.
Anonymous sources talking about a meeting they were not in.
Democrats piling on while frothing at the mouth.
OR -
Every person actually in the room says it did not happen.
I wonder which way to go.
Just stick your head in the sand while yelling FAKE NEWS! FAKE NEWS! and you'll be fine.
Great critical thinking skills on display right here.
We need more presidents who are incapable of keeping secrets.
This is everything I needed to know.
Well, that and the fact that everyone who was actually there agreed that this is a nothingburger.
Beloved Popular-Vote President would never have committed a treasonous act like this. If only we had elected an official like her, who intimately understood the importance of primary-classification and intelligence-handling protocols.
Can Trump snatch-stash classified docs? Can you think of a safer place that no one would dare breach to obtain our national secrets? I didn't so, Mr. Smartypants.
I will forever loather her because I am now required to take derivative classification courses annually. Evidently, since I understand I will go to jail if I leak state secrets or auto-forward them to my private email I need better training.

It may have been legal but he's a blabber-mouth. The more he blabs the less intelligence allies will share.
Probably it was about ISIS making bombs that fit in electronics to go on airplanes.
Its not really a secret that ISIS wants to blow up planes and is coming up with new ways to do it.
Ooooooh, you can't tell Russia that!
