The Onion isn't letting Rep. Justin Amash off easy.

    He's the enemy.

    1. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

      Hello.

      1. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

Hey Rufus, how's it hanging? How are the hockey playoffs treating you?

        1. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

Very well. Good stuff this year!

          1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

            No. Terrible.

          2. Chipper Mourning Somali Roadz   8 years ago

            Fuck the penguins.

            1. Rat on a train   8 years ago

What did you expect in the playoffs? The Caps can always find a way to lose.

              1. Chipper Mourning Somali Roadz   8 years ago

Playoffs? Are you seeing capital letters where there aren't any?

                1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Do we need to ban you from the zoos and Antarctica?

    2. Conchfritters   8 years ago

      When you've lost Justin Amash...

      1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

        Wait a minute...

    3. Brandybuck   8 years ago

Yes. I didn't quite get what they were ragging on him about. Like reading a bill before voting on it was silly or something. Then I read some of their other recent stories. HOLY FUCK!

I knew Hillary was ostensibly in charge of the Onion now, but didn't realize how political the "humor" site had become. It's become the web's version of the Daily Show. Let's just point at people to right of the far left and pretend it's high comedy.

      1. BestUsedCarSales   8 years ago

Clickhole is the funny wing of The Onion now.

  2. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

The Onion isn't letting Rep. Justin Amash off easy.

A roast? I've always wanted to be roasted!

    1. MarkLastname   8 years ago

      Specifically spiteoasted?

  3. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Steve Bannon is not a libertarian, and President Trump doesn't even know what a libertarian is.

No one better try to define libertarian for me, I'll say that much.

  4. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Steve Bannon is not a libertarian, and President Trump doesn't even know what a libertarian is.

I think the Powers that Be are trying to taint our image.

  5. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

The "Heil Trump" graffiti incident was a hate crime hoax.

False Flag: 100 -- Real Hate Crime: ...0?

    1. Zeb   8 years ago

I saw someone hate-jaywalking just the other day.

      1. Rat on a train   8 years ago

We have that and hate parking.

        1. American Memer   8 years ago

I might have seen someone hate-littering down the ghetto streets the other day.

  6. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

    Happy Cinco de Mayo everybody.

I hope ICE catches the Huck doing all of that and sends him over Trump's wall.

    1. Conchfritters   8 years ago

I'm pretty sure speaking Spanish when it is not your native language is the ultimate cultural appropriation.

      1. Meh.   8 years ago

I have seen so many posts today scolding everyone for cultural appropriation. It's ridiculous. I also saw three white little boys walking to school this morning wearing sombreros. And my first thought was that they too would get scolded for cultural appropriation (but then I realized probably not, not an an elementary school...) But still, I don't understand why you wouldn't want everyone to celebrate your cultural tradition with you.

        1. KBeckman   8 years ago

I work for a Mexican company in Michigan and our Plant Manager came up from there. From what he said Cinco de Mayo is largely an American thing. Only the Puebla region of Mexico really cares about it.

  7. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Louisiana State University tried to lecture its student-athletes about what they post on social media.

Finally a new world academic adaptation that serves a legitimate purpose.

  8. Not a True MJG   8 years ago

The Onion isn't letting Rep. Justin Amash off easy.

Not really. But hey, someone there knows who Amash is!

    1. Chipper Mourning Somali Roadz   8 years ago

Nothing like onion in your amashed potatoes.

  9. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Political polarization rises among first-year college students.

    Left and Far Left?

  10. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

The shrinking of the middle is largely due to a recent rise in the share of women (who also represent a majority of college students) who identify as either liberal or far left.

I bet their cycles all sync up freshman year, too.

    1. Unreconstructed (Sans Flag)   8 years ago

They always did...there were weeks that you didn't want to walk near sorority houses for a reason!

    2. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Omg the answer was left and far left!? *facepalm*

      1. Rat on a train   8 years ago

Soon it will be the far left and the farther left.

        1. Chipper Mourning Somali Roadz   8 years ago

Extreme yin becomes yang and extreme yang becomes yin.

        2. Chipper Mourning Somali Roadz   8 years ago

Extreme yin becomes yang and extreme yang becomes yin.

  11. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

    American University wouldn't let a student-journalist cover a protest.

He promised his editor that he'd get the raw scoop and report the facts on what's really going on.

  12. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

    Happy Cinco de Mayo everybody.

Still going to be drinking whiskey over tequila but I'll get something that's Tex-Mex.

    1. Rat on a train   8 years ago

      Weihenstephaner for me.

  13. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

"President Trump doesn't even know what a libertarian is."

But he still knows more than the commie pope.

  14. Not a True MJG   8 years ago

Confirmed: Murray Rothbard was the author of that deplorable, shallow, offensive article.

    2. ChipToBeSquare   8 years ago

He is the Immortal Bard no longer. Time to become a statist

    3. MarkLastname   8 years ago

Haha now I think I like this guy.

    4. Chipper Mourning Somali Roadz   8 years ago

It's a good thing he didn't live to see Samuel Jackson become a jedi.

  15. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

    American University wouldn't let a student-journalist cover a protest.

Seems more like a circle jerk. AND THOSE SHOULD BE SEMI-PRIVATE.

    1. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Invite only? This isn't the 60's.

  16. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

EXCLUSIVE: 'They went back and forth having sex, screaming yelling, having sex.' This is the college professor who Barack Obama loved and lost because he 'wasn't black enough to have a white wife'

It is also possible that Obama cheated on Jager with an Hispanic single mother of three he had met through his work as a 'community organizer'.Garrow says that Mary Ellen 'Lena' Montes became an 'intimate friend'.

    1. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Cheated on Michelle, eh? That's pretty dishonorable, Barack. I can say that as a dishonored man myself.

    2. Conchfritters   8 years ago

Interesting. Bobby Rush said Obama wasn't black enough to represent either as I recall.

    3. creech   8 years ago

I heard he's getting the Kennedy family's "Profile in Courage" award because he stood fast for his beliefs in the face of political pressure. Pretty sure bet, though, that Uncle Teddy never won it.,

    4. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   8 years ago

I continue to appreciate how 'community organizer' appears in scare quotes, as it should.

  17. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

Elite troops are being worked too hard and spread too thin, military commander warns

U.S. special forces were deployed to 138 nations last year. Around 55.3 percent of Special Operations forces deployed overseas in 2016 were sent to the Middle East, a 35 percent drop since 2006, according to Special Operations Command. In the same decade, deployments to Africa rose steeply, by more than 1,600 percent, from just 1 percent in 2006 to 17.3 percent last year. Roughly 12.7 percent of special operators served in Europe, 9.2 percent in the Pacific Command region and almost 5 percent in Latin America.

  18. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Stang though, is a gay... himself, he told IndyStar. He said he did not vandalize the church out of hate, but rather, out of a misguided attempt to spur people to action after the election left him afraid for his future.

It turns out his fears were justified, though. He's being prosecuted in Trump's America!

    1. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

      What a piece of shit.

      1. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

For real - the things Trump made this guy do.

    2. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

spur people to action bloody revolution with his lie.

    3. B.P.   8 years ago

Help me out again... what are Trump's crimes against the gay community?

      1. Meh.   8 years ago

Having a (R) behind his name

      2. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

        He hasn't done anything...yet.

      3. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

Trump said he "grabs them by the pussy"; this statement "others" the gay community.

      4. Zeb   8 years ago

I have yet to get an answer to that question that makes sense.

The best I've got is that even though Trump himself has been openly positive about gay rights and embraced gay supporters, somehow his election signals to all the bigots out there that it's OK to gay bash now. Or something.

      5. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

        Pence.

        1. Meh.   8 years ago

Ooo, I already forgot about that. I think you're right.

          1. KBeckman   8 years ago

I think everyone forgot about him.

Elevators in an age of higher towers and bigger cities

n 2015, according to Kone, 840,000 new elevators were installed in the world (half in China), adding to the roughly 14 million currently in service worldwide. Kone expects that number to increase sharply as an expected wave of urbanization hits developing countries, especially Nigeria, Indonesia, and India. The United Nations estimates urban populations will grow by 2.5 billion by 2050, with 90 percent of this growth concentrated in Asia and Africa. Kone's president and CEO, Henrik Ehrnrooth, even went so far as to call elevators "urban mass transit."

Kone has developed and refined a technology on display at Tytyri called UltraRope. It's a system to hoist elevators with lightweight, carbon-fiber straps that help designers and architects build higher with less weight. UltraRope will be installed in the forthcoming kilometer-high Jeddah Tower, set to be the world's tallest building when it's finished in Saudi Arabia, possibly as soon as sometime next year.

John Waters is hosting a summer camp for adults

Slated for September 2017, (adult) fans of the cult filmmaker behind Pink Flamingos and Polyester can make their way to Kent, Connecticut for a weekend of debauchery at Camp John Waters. There are the usual camp activities like ziplining and canoeing, alongside screenings of his films, 'Blood Mary Bingo', Hairspray karaoke, burlesque lessons, a 'Scotch and Cigars' session and a costume contest judged by the Prince of Puke. Waters will also perform a one-man show, read from his new book Make Trouble, and hang around for a Q+A.

    1. Meh.   8 years ago

      ... sounds grody.

    2. Zeb   8 years ago

I suspect the camp might be a bit to gay (and camp) for my tastes. But John Waters is a hugely entertaining and surprisingly sensible person. I saw him give a talk when I was at college, which was absolutely hilarious, and got a chance to shake hands and chat a bit with him afterwards.

      1. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

I'd like to attend the scotch and cigars session.

        1. MarkLastname   8 years ago

The scotch is rufied, and you don't want to know what the cigars are.

    3. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   8 years ago

I like John Waters. I don't much like his films.

      1. SIV   8 years ago

        I like them all

  21. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

While the university showed support for its athletes' opinions in the email, it warns that what they "say and do directly impacts how people around the world view LSU."

Good thing what university administrators say and do doesn't.

Before Internet Cats: Feline Finds from the Archives of American Art

Long before cats clawed their way onto the Internet, they made themselves at home in the Archives of American Art. This exhibition explores the myriad ways in which cats are represented in rare documents like sketches and drawings, letters, and photographs from the nineteenth century through early 2000s. Whether expressive or aloof, the contradictory attitudes of cats make them compelling artists' muses. They are often the playful subjects of artworks, humorous topics of conversation, independent studio companions, and beloved members of the family. The records on view reflect our enduring fascination with felines.

    1. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   8 years ago

Ancient Egyptian folk art featured them too.

Venezuela continues to protest Donald Trump.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BTkrrQ9FPnc/

    1. ChipToBeSquare   8 years ago

Left-wing response (seriously, everyone here should check out The Nation's recent Venezuela article): "Those protesters are all rich, upper middle class fascists who don't represent the interests of the poor"

Well, what exactly are the antifa then?

      1. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   8 years ago

Well, what exactly are the antifa then?

I'm honestly not sure. From what I've been able to tell, it's a bunch of white tweens occasionally carrying airsoft rifles into public.

  24. Jerryskids   8 years ago

Louisiana State University tried to lecture its student-athletes about what they post on social media.

Actually, LSU sent out an e-mail - they know "student-affletes" don't show up for lectures. No word on whether or not the student-affletes found somebody to read them the e-mail.

  25. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

I pray the next President isn't Democrat. Holy crap I don't think I can endure another round of 'I inherited a mess' bull shit.

    Losers.

    1. Zeb   8 years ago

I wouldn't count on a Republican not doing the same after Trump.

Maybe Trump will surprise us and not leave a mess.

  26. Jerry on the sea   8 years ago

Finally a politician that will stand up for the little guy.

  27. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

Seen during the Yankees game: a commercial celebrating New York's history of equal rights.

Are people taking "equal rights" vacations?

    1. Zeb   8 years ago

John Brown's body lies a'moulderin' in the grave.

    2. Half-Virtue, Half-Vice   8 years ago

It's like nobody remembers New York's 1863 pogrom.

    3. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

Related: my Yankees-induced erection is out of control.

  28. Libertarian   8 years ago

"While certain libertarian-friendly notions ? lower taxes, spending, regulation ? serve as baseline-level beliefs shared by every Republican, . . . "

Curt Schilling believes Adam Jones is lying about racial taunts

I don't believe the story, given the world we live in," Schilling said on his webcast. "I don't believe it, for this reason: Everybody is starving and hungry to sit in front of a camera and talk and be social justice warriors. And if a fan yelled loud enough in center field for Adam Jones to hear the N-word, I guarantee you we would've heard and seen fans around on CNN on MSNBC, they would've found multiple fans to talk about what a racist piece of junk Boston is."

"If somebody did say it, we're going to see it and hear about it, and I would apologize to Adam Jones for doubting him, but until then, I think this is bulls?t. I think this is somebody creating a situation."

"But we're gonna hear from somebody in the section that saw (Jones) called a racist (word). If not, he's lying. And I say he's lying. If he isn't, I will apologize. I will absolutely apologize on the air and I will be sincere about it if it happens."

    1. Meh.   8 years ago

I don't think he should have attacked it from the "just for attention" angle, because it ignores the pretty obvious potential motive of race-baiting and narrative-pushing, like all those fake hate crimes after the election.

I don't know what to think on this one. They say other people heard it, and given the subject matter, it feels weird to say that I hope he's not lying, but hopefully this isn't a hoax.

      1. Crusty Juggler aka "Chad"   8 years ago

I just hope someone throws peanuts at Schilling.

  30. CatoTheChipper   8 years ago

From the Steve Bannon is not a libertarian article:

"Bannon might be the least libertarian member of the [Republican] party of any stature."

Ever hear of John McCain or Lindsey Graham? I agree that Steve Bannon is not a libertarian, and Bannon agrees that he's not a libertarian, but compared with McCain and his Mini-Me, Bannon looks pretty libertarian.

    1. chemjeff   8 years ago

I don't think anyone wins in the "who is the least libertarian" game...

Bannon is un-libertarian economically, McCain is un-libertarian militarily.

  31. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   8 years ago
