Can anyone actually tell me what Obama *did* to restrict gun rights during his presidency?

Yes I know he is rhetorically anti-2A. Yes I know that if he were Emperor, he would likely attempt to confiscate and ban all the guns. Yes I know he tried to get meaningless gun control pushed through Congress after Sandy Hook (but it failed). But I am talking about what he actually *did*.

All I could find are some EO's from 2015 that mostly seemed rather inocuous, to be honest. They were mainly about "more funding for gun violence research" and "stricter enforcement of existing gun control laws". Which aren't great, but also aren't "OMG HE'S GRABBING GUNS" either. Heck, most of the EO's on that list, I could easily see a President Trump signing as well. Now he did have one about using mental illness info from the SSA to try to restrict gun rights of seniors, which was awful I agree. And I do recall that his EPA tried back-door gun control by trying to regulate away bullets by targeting the lead, but that was slapped down by a court.

So I am left thinking that the cries about Obama "assaulting gun rights" is about 10% fire and 90% smoke.

He was pretty neutral-to-"good" on gun issues in his first term. He was actually pretty remarkably aloof from the subject, probably because he knew it was a terrible issue to confront before getting re-elected.

As soon as he was re-elected, he was handed a convenient opportunity via the Newtown shooting, which he followed with a raft of gun bills which were far from "meaningless". I'm not going to waste the time here explaining to you what a crock of shit the "universal"-background check concept was, but it had wide ranging implications for expansion of gun control, as well as addition of new federal "databasing" of gun owners that would have amounted to de-facto licensing.

Basically, he made a short lived effort at new anti-gun legislation but it blew up in his face almost immediately.

What his admin mostly did after that was to fuck with gun retailers, and anyone in the middle-market by cutting off their access to financial-services. See "Operation Choke-Point" he also had the ATF change rules for who had to register as a "Gun Dealer", putting arbitrary caps on transactions such that many people in the Gun Show world would have been required to turn into FFLs.

Well, Obama's BATF did entice a few gun shops to sell guns to gun runners who known to smuggle guns into Mexico for sale to various drug gangs. The BATF didn't bother to intercept the shipments or to actively track the guns. Obviously, they were doing this so that US-sourced guns would show up a Mexican crime scenes. There was lots of MSM propaganda going on about the allegedly fast and loose procedures of US gun shops. Then a DEA agent got killed, and the story of Fast and Furious got out.
