Police in Pennsylvania have charged Mt. Lebanon High School teacher Christian Stein with stealing almost $5,000 from students who were planning a trip to Germany. Stein, who has been suspended from his job, said he did it because he was having financial problems.

What do you mean I'm not allowed to just take other peoples money? I'm a union member in good standing (slightly in arrears with my dues though)!

Mt. Lebanon police said Stein had withdrawn the student money 98 times since 2010, stealing $4,812.40.

Since 2010? How far out of school were these kinder going to be before they actually made the trip?

Like Social Security, this was a plan for retirement. Like Social Security, the money was diverted for other uses.

He was probably just skimming a little off the top of each yearly trip. Ooh, sorry kids. Looks like you didn't quite raise enough to go to Oktoberfest. Guess we'll just have to go on a tour of beet farms instead.

      1. Princess Trigger   8 years ago

The beet farm tour was fascinating and we got complimentary jar of pickled beets.

"A German teacher at Mt. Lebanon High School has been charged with stealing nearly $5,000 from students who were saving for a trip to Germany."

You know what other German took stuff that didn't belong to him?

"Because he was having financial troubles" DUH!!

So clearly teacher wages need to be increased. Time for a major tax increase. That way the parents will pay, and the poor teacher will not have to feel bad about temporarily redirecting the funds.

Thought for the day: How bad can your financial troubles be if you only need to redirect $49.10 a hit? But hit it every 3 to 4 weeks?
Well, he did teach German, not math.

OT. What the hell, Seattle? I don't think you understand how politics is supposed to work. An *elected council member* is calling for protests and shutdowns!

"Socialist Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant is calling for Seattle activists and workers to shut down Seattle highways and the Seattle airport on May Day.

According to Sawant, 59 organizations have joined Seattle's May 1st Action Coalition to call for a day of mass protest on May Day.

On April 24, 2017, the Seattle City Council unanimously passed a resolution brought forward by the May 1st Action Coalition, the Coalition of City Unions, immigrant rights activists, and Sawant, proclaiming that the City of Seattle workers have the right to take the day off on May 1, 2017 without retaliation."

Usually, they just the kickbacks in a harder-to prosecute form. The teachers leading the trip get their travel paid for and also another trip without the kids for 'training'. But sometimes it's just cash. I know a guy working at a school where the new principal couldn't figure out why he received a check from the company that arranged their school's annual class trip. The old principal had never mentioned the checks -- they assumed he was just cashing them.
