Happy Taxation-Is-Theft Day!
Listen to Matt Welch interview Grover Norquist, David Cay Johnston and more on Sirius XM Insight from 9-12 am ET

For the fourth and last time in the past seven days I am sitting in the host chair today for Stand UP! with Pete Dominick on Sirius XM Insight (channel 121) from 9-12 am ET. The guests on this Tax Day include:
* Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist,
* Tax analyst and author of The Making of Donald Trump David Cay Johnston,
* American Overseas Advocate Keith Redmond (we will talk about the hideous Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act).
* The American Conservative co-founder Scott McConnell, author of the recent Vox piece "I voted for Trump. After the Syria strikes, I'm second-guessing my choice."
* Ryan Nerz, "television's first chief cannabis correspondent," who will talk about Canada legalizing weed and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions being all like "nah."
Please call the show at any time: 1-877-974-7487. And enjoy this Tax Day valentine from Reason TV:

Ask Norquist why he ruined Burning Man. Or why he quit ruining it.
Was the infamous Public Fleshlight his doing?
At first I read that as "Pubic Fleshlight" and thought "Is that a Fleshlight with pubes?"
Is the "tax is theft" trope a legitimate complaint by anyone who is not a full blown anarchist?
It's kind of a tough argument to make if you aren't. Unless you think government can operate on voluntary donations or by selling cookies or something.
depends. when you have my roommate arguing that healthcare is a human right, well then you are saying you have a right to my labor. Fuck off, slaver
There are definitely clear arguments against taxation for redistribution. But to support the essential functions of government it's hard to see how you avoid some form of involuntary taxation for someone.
The federal government was initially financed by import and excise fees.
I suppose one could make the argument that taxation is theft, but a necessary evil in order to fund legitimate government activities, but as such should be minimized as much as possible.
Rand called for voluntary contributions to govt, didn't she?
Yes, I think so.
Robert Anton Wilson also called for voluntary taxes, and to pack the legislature with ostriches, which also seems like a good idea.
