the nation risks losing part of its culture without such a law.

OH HOW THE TIDES HAVE TURNED, ENGLAND! Suffer your own wrath of senseless laws!

  2. anon   8 years ago

Jesus christ, nobody else in sight at 6 AM. This place has gone to shit in my absence,

    1. Adans smith   8 years ago

The comment section has not been working right. Many of us have almost quit trying to post.

      1. DanO.   8 years ago

Frustration at the inability to spew his wisdom might have broken John’s brain, so there is that.

  3. Adans smith   8 years ago

And my reply to anon didn’t show up.

    1. anon   8 years ago

Probably in the same limbo I’m about to send this comment.

I mean, seriously, who’s the fucking retard they hired?

      1. Adans smith   8 years ago

Just blame the Russians and Trump.

        1. anon   8 years ago

Sorry, I was behind. I still blame Bush.

          1. Radioactive   8 years ago

            that’s BOOOOOOSH!

      2. Trigger Hippie   8 years ago

Three blind squirrels. Three blind squirrels.

See how they run. See how they run.

They all ran after the farmer’s wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did you ever see such a sight in your life,
        As three blind squirrels?

  4. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

“If we don’t update the rules, we’re at serious risk of losing something very special about our British culture,” Mr Purnell argues.

    That and all the pakies.

  5. Radioactive   8 years ago

If you don’t eat your meat, how can you have any pudding???

  6. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

Ah yes. The ole ‘we’ll lose out culture’ Vaudeville Act.

Same nonsense here with the CBC. Apparently, Canadian ‘culture’ would cease without it.

    1. Adans smith   8 years ago

How do you culture maple syrup?

    2. chemjeff   8 years ago

Actually I don’t see how this is terribly different than the argument put forth by the Trumpistas that we need to build a huge wall around the country in order to preserve American culture against untoward influences. In either case, it’s the coercive state trying to force culture to evolve in a certain direction – the direction envisioned by the central planners – rather than let it grow organically according to how the citizens wish it to grow.

      1. Rufus The Monocled   8 years ago

        It’s completely different.

Not even worth comparing it’s so different.

        1. chemjeff   8 years ago

Yes yes I know. On one hand you have left-wingers demanding central planning of the culture. On the other hand you have right-wingers demanding central planning of the culture. Totally different.

          1. Radioactive   8 years ago

culture…isn’t that like a yeast infection?

    3. Rhywun   8 years ago

Think of what might be lost without another few decades of EastEnders to bring the nation together.

  7. Jerryskids   8 years ago

Just mandate picture-in-picture sets with the inset permanently tuned to the Ministry of Truth channel.

  8. Longtobefree   8 years ago

“If we don’t update the rules, we’re at serious risk of losing something very special about our British culture,” Mr Purnell argues.
    The full quote was this:
“If we don’t update the rules, we’re at serious risk of losing something very special about our British culture, my job”

  9. OldMexican Blankety Blank   8 years ago

I tried posting the wittiest rejoinders and most compelling aeguments yesterday but had to give up after the comments section failed to work completely. Now the world lost something forever. Woe! Like the loss of the library in Alexandria!

    1. $park? leftist poser   8 years ago

I’m sure we missed some real gems about how the Trumpistas and Marxians are ruining everything.

      1. OldMexican Blankety Blank   8 years ago

Indeed. And now it’s lost forever. Shame.

Speaking of Trumpistas, did you read the list of trade deal elements that Pete Navarro has in store? Yeah. You will be snarky no more.

        1. $park? leftist poser   8 years ago

I’m sure a stroll through the Economic Policy Journal is a real hoot, but I’m gonna pass this time.

    2. Memory Hole   8 years ago

My good sir I assure you your lost library was but a cum stained porn mag compared to the holy grail we lost to the ether yesterday when my post on natural law was stolen by other dimension.

  10. Griffin3   8 years ago

Current legislation, introduced in 2003, means that the public service channels, including BBC One, BBC Two, ITV and Channel Four must appear at the top of all television listings.

They already have this, now they want more. O, Britain…

    1. Radioactive   8 years ago

well shit does flow downhill, so if you want the widest distribution of shit you must put the largest reservoir of shit at the highest elevation (or top of the list in this case) so that the crap naturally percolates down to the lower levels…cause science!!
