Kellyanne Conway Admits Bowling Green Massacre Mistake, Chelsea Clinton Gets 'Edgy': P.M. Links

-
Olivier Douliery/SIPA/Newscom In a rare example of a Trump administration person admitting something they said was false, Kellyanne Conway conceded that the Bowling Green Massacre never happened. She called it "an honest mistake."
- Read my column at The Daily Beast on why Steve Bannon and President Trump welcome the kind of violence that prevented Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking at Berkeley.
- "Liberty is meaningless where the right to utter one's thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down. They know its power. Thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, founded in injustice and wrong, are sure to tremble, if men are allowed to reason of righteousness, temperance, and of a judgment to come in their presence. Slavery cannot tolerate free speech. Five years of its exercise would banish the auction block and break every chain in the South." - Frederick Douglass, A Plea for Free Speech (via Spiked's Brendan O'Neill)
- President Trump really screwed up that Yemen strike.
- Cops in Chicago schools have very little oversight.
- The opposite of this headline about Chelsea Clinton.

So rare.
Is there such thing as a dishonest mistake?
Like when you say you're sorry for cumming in her hair?
Never say your sorry. /pua
Pshh. I say "You're welcome."
You cum anywhere but the mouth???

As a lizard, this must be something you have read in a book.
Indeed. Where does a gentlelizard aim?

Crusty, the only apology you owe is to your dishwasher.
Setting off the burglar alarm would count.
Lol bacon that name change is hilarious
Thank you. Did you click my name also?
Uhhh, I don't get it : /
Look up the meme...it's a Dr. Phil episode that went viral meme crazy.
Welcome to the internet H-V,H-V
Oh goddamnit.
God didn't dammit, the beavers did.
Unlike previous administrations, where the mea culpae were issued on an hourly basis.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat?
Hello.
She's one up on Obama.
Yes sir.
What's up with the et tu Reason? I've missed stuff.
Oh, you've missed a lot. Someone with better linking skills will bring you up to speed. Again I say, don't leave!
Linking skills?
These euphemisms are OUT OF CONTROL.
Did he mean slinking skills?
Shikha did this
And they refused to cover a story about cops beating up sloppy's mom while she was trying to help a kid in major physical distress during a basketball game (she's a nurse) because it is 'not quite Reason...
There were 20-some articles about the Trump immigration EO.
Those are the three major ones leading up to the mass exodus, AFAIK.
It's a good thing there's no female libertarians, or we would have lost, like, a quarter of them in a week.
SF'd it
I would link it myself but my linking skills are subpar.
Learn HTML.
I know HTML. My problem lies in finding the URL to link.
Here it is
Don't forget these gems:
I have no reason why she's remotely connected to a libertarian publication.
I'd love to know how the right outdoes the left where moral rot is concerned because from where I sit progressives have that market cornered.
It has to be that thing she does.
Thank you, P:p
We have lost a good number of commenters in 72 hours.
Histrionics.
I know. It makes me sad. So as that I might leave. But then this place would get better, and I can't let that happen.
They'll be back.
They always come back.
I hope most of them get over it. People just have to accept that Reason won't necessarily cover their preferred nutpunch.
OK, now you're posting first; I'm very confused.
Fist was, I believe, one of the first to jump ship.
And Hihn will be the last.
*giggles* *farts* I have won against the BULLIES!!!!!/Hihntler
Did he? I thought I saw him yesterday. Fuck.
No, I'm still around, just a lot more sparingly until things cool down. I hate it when mom and dad fight.
You are loved. I even changed my name yesterday in a bro type roasting fashion. *drops gloves and hugs fist(still doing it right, Tundra?)*
Yeah, we all love you Fist.
I even changed my name yesterday...
THAT WAS YOU? You know, the last one to spoof me was Mary. JUST SAYIN'.
I changed to Fist of Bacon-Magic. I not the name stealing type, I want full credit for my madness.
I not the name stealing type...
I'm just joshing you. But maybe a weekend full of uninteresting filler posts and repeats will get everyone's head right. A Superbowl thread might just be what the doctor ordered.
Get on that, Bacon.
I think you have to pull his jersey over his head.
KMW and The Jacket?
KMW and The Jacket?
I never thought of it, but I guess you're right. That would be it.
Wait a minute, KMW replaced Welch...
NTTAWWT
Are you gonna argue with the fact that Welch has more nurturing feminine energy than Gillespie?
Than KMW, for that matter.
But hey, at least it got the media all chattering about the couple of would-be terrorist chumps who slipped through the cracks and got into the country, causing Obama to temporarily restrict immigration like Trump did. You sure showed her, media.
God bless the man who linked videos from The Last Waltz the other day

I don't understand. No girl twerks in this video? What's the point?
You really want to see Joni Mitchell try to twerk?
'It makes no difference' and 'I shall be released'.
And I always stop and take time from whipping my orphans to listen to the 'The Weight'.
NEO-CONFEDERATE!
Hey, can one of you gun-nut "don't call it a clip" weirdos point out to me where I can get the best deal for a quality but low-cost AK? I'm looking to add to the arsenal but am looking for some alternatives to the gun shows I usually buy from .
I ain't gonna lie, part of it is because I convinced my wife that leftist mobs are coming to kill us all in a Bolshevik revolution, and I'm keeping the AR with me and she's Chinese so by law she has to use an AK. So the Berkley thing was a huge win for me, in that, 1) it personally cost me nothing, and 2) provided me the fodder for retarded hyperbole in order to justify something I wanted to do anyway.
My only requirement is a folding stock. I'm open to the 7.62 or 5.45 variants.
Here's a wide selection, but honestly, AK's aren't as cheap as they used to be, for the price you can get a decent AR.
Already got one. I want to diversify. One for precision shooting, one for using the chamber as an ersatz toilet where I know it'll just work again and fling shit out with the ejected shells with no jamming.
I like my Ruger mini-14. It will fit the bill of being rugged and jammie proof. That and it is also same caliber as your AR.
I'll look into that, thank you.
I second that, and own one. There are a ton of mods available for it too. How can you go wrong with BA Baracus' gun?
(Well, he didn't actually manage to hit anyone with several thousand rounds shot, so there is that.)
I thought BA was always driving something. It was Hannibal and Face who couldn't hit anything except car tires right before hidden ramps.
You can get AR that are piston drive like AK if you believe it's more reliable. My Sig 516 is piston and I've never had a misfire.
^Rich Florida Hipster
*jealous glare*
It's heavier than your AR, but it was modeled after the M-1 garand system...durable and reliable. Get the heavier barrel version. I have the tactical version and love it. The old ranch styles barrels are too thin so repeated shots can warp it. Not so with the tactical and other heavier/updated versions.
You're a Plano-area resident, as I understand. Try Gander Mountain (Lewisville or Frisco) and/or Cabella's. Gander tends to have quite a few consignment guns. But, then again, I think Cabella's does, too. If you're gonna find one brick and mortar, I believe those would be starting places.
Cheaper Than Dirt has a store in McKinney that deals more with weapons and ammo than it does with accessories, as I recall. It's just east of 75 on 380.
Maybe Trump reverses all the Russian import bans?
don't get an underfolder, they totally suck to shoot. I hate mine.
don't get an underfolder, they totally suck to shoot. I hate mine.
^^thank you, quality advice
You laugh but you're seeing why the government (and progressives) shouldn't know where the guns are.
Buy Serbian!
Does it come with the guy and the pickup?
No but if you promise to use it on Bosnians they throw in a discount.
That'a just a made up nationality.
Serbian Arms Dealer: You. I like you. Half off.
+1 Commando 450.
I've bought one Serbian thing in my entire life, and will never make that mistake again.
[TRIGGERED]
Jesus titty-fucking christ. Just from reading that I will never be the same again.
I also want to stock up for the coming purge. Guns have always kind of freaked me out, but I enjoy martial arts and martial pursuits, I think as a man, I should know how to properly use and own a firearm.
You should. One of the best starter home defense weapons is a shotgun. 12 gauge with double aught buck shot.
I enjoy martial arts and martial pursuits,
How about marital aids?
I thought your mother retired?...
Who do you use now for the prostate milking?
Well if the squirrels keep this up then I might just have to enslave one of them for such proclivities.
You are gonna get milked twice. The second time is not enjoyable.
I have #6 bird shot in mine. I don't want to kill my next-door neighbor along with the intruder. As long as you aren't shooting through 2 walls to hit the intruder, #6 is plenty lethal, but it doesn't have nearly as bad an overpenetration issue.
^^^Strong agree. Buckshot is kick ass but not the right tool against unarmored targets.
The sound of a pump shotgun being chambered is an international recognized phrase for "go away".
Turkey rounds. They have a mix of medium and smaller shot with additional powder. If you have a pump, just check to make sure they cycle well since most of the shells are slightly longer than for upland bird loads.
Do yourself a favor and take a firearm safety class.
I think as a man, I should know how to properly use and own a firearm.
Eh if you can throat punch someone I feel like you're totally squared on manly violence. Guns are a blast, but they're impersonal and designed to make violence (defensive or otherwise) available to people who aren't able to pull back the drawstring on a bow, cleave someone's skull like a melon with an axe or knock someone out with a throat punch.
You say that as if it were a bad thing!
God made man, Colonel Colt made them equal.
^This
Jesse, do you watch Vikings on History? Great show.
*bites shield berserker style*
I watched the first couple of seasons. My roommate has been watching it religiously since and I catch an ep here or there, but having seen some of them it's hard for me to jump in and binge the last few seasons.
Fantastic television.
The best home defense weapon is a sword.
Punch throats? You pussy. I rip throats.
It's worked the same for my species over the last million years
From the inside out?
Against one guy, sure. I'm a big tough guy, or at least I look like one, and against more than two opponents, I'm going guns up.
if you're handy, it's best/cheapest to build your own. IO Inc does some American made copies that don't cost much, but if you want high quality you'll have to pay for one of the Yugo's or other high end maker
I haven't heard anything good about the quality of I.O. AKs. Lots of improperly riveted recievers, bad headspacing, etc. The default cheap AK for the last few years has been a WASR. Last I heard, Atlantic Firearms sells a QC inspected one that lets you avoid some of the more obvious problems with cheap AKs, like canted sights or wobbly magwells.
Whatever you do, be sure you get one with one of those thingeys that pops up.
^^quality advice, would solicit again
Unless your wife handles recoil well, go with the 5.45. 7.62x39 has significantly more recoil. It isn't huge, but it might be enough to make it unpleasant for her to shoot, which means she won't want to practice with it at all.
Get the AK, well because, then get a 2nd AR for the wifey. If SHTFU, you'll want common ammo and magazines. Then get something in 7.62/.308 for decent knockdown power. As for the missus, when you're right, they totally let you grab the pistol grip.
Budsgunshop.com usually has good prices on everything.
Agreed.
President Trump really screwed up that Yemen strike.
But Hillary had nothing to do with Benghazi.
That was also a strike approved by the previous administration and signed-off by other in the administration, but keep getting your news from Slate
As if he personally had anything to do with it.
Presidents taking credit or criticism for these action and arguing about it is stupid.
Shoulda claimed he first heard about it on the news just like everyone else.
She looks good there.
Crystal meth is a hell of a drug.
I'm sorry, but I've stalled on my H&R alternative project due to some personal issues that took precedence. I understand that others have started working on an alternative. Rather than duplicate efforts and create unnecessary divisions I've decided to join with those others. I'll revisit my plans if nothing else comes up.
More fiction is forthcoming as well, but I've chosen to to take a different direction from my previous Tales from the Staff Room story and have had to start afresh.
Stay tuned.
Related: who was it that set up the Steam community for HnR? I'd like to get involved though I know dick about Steam. I only joined yesterday and bought the original Deus Ex for $1.74, on Pan Zagloba's rec IIRC.
Keep in mind that original is a 2000 vintage game. Graphics are....rough. Servicable, but rough.
There's a user mod you might be able to download from Steam that pretties it up a bit.
Other thing is, despite being years ahead of its time, some of design choices are...questionable. And non-lethal is hard as balls to do, because you don't have insta-takedown.
Oh, of course. I'm not a graphics snob. I don't play many games newer than 10 years old.
Also there's something up with the graphics on modern computers where it's way more dark, I can't remember how I fixed it.
And chasing NSF and engaging in police brutality with the riot baton 'non-lethally' is one of the best parts of the game.
The writing is substantially better, though. If you want me to sum it up as succinctly as possible, one is and feels like it was written by people in Texas, the other, people from Montreal.
There are a lot of eye-rolling themes and lines. The absolute obsession with PMCs that seems to be very popular right now, as well as one about how corporations aren't accountable like government is, when earlier you literally just went through a FEMA camp where they're conducting brutal vivisection-esque human experiments.
Also, I'm not a fan of prequelitis, where there's some massively earth-shattering event that takes place in the prequel that is never dreamed of or alluded to in the original because it's an entirely new idea, but it's so important that it should have been a major fixture in the original, but, well, it's part of the canon now retroactively...
It's been a while so I don't precisely recall everything, and I know some folks will think I'm being a curmudgeon. DX:HR is still an alright game but I'm just tired of the omnipresent anti-capitalistic themes in absolutely everything, especially when the actual events in the game clash with the narrative. Haven't played MD yet.
Credit where credit's due, they resisted the urge to turn David Sarif into an evil corporate mastermind. A lot of this is Montreal politics leaking into the game. Once I heard in Mankind Divided a guy call a pro-aug debater an SJW I had to roll my eyes and realize I should never expect decent political writing in their games.
Glad this has reminded me: Mankind Divided is up for $18 now, worth getting? I heard a lot of criticism, particularly that it doesn't really end, making me think I ought to wait for the "Directors Cut" or whatever they wind up calling the complete version.
For all those interested in old games, Gog.com has tons of them.
I don't have it, but my friend who enjoyed HR said that, mechanically, it's even better. Story is....eeehhh....
But yeah, I'm waiting for GOTY while I work through the queue.
I'd wait until they do a full Director's Cut with DLC or whatever, tends to be the better choice nowadays, wait a year or two so you can get the complete game.
That's precisely the reason why I'm waiting, especially after the nickel-and-diming director's cut release of HR. It's a single-player game so it's not going anywhere.
Also, I've been perfectly happy with Rimworld, Factorio, and TW: Warhammer in the meanwhile.
I actually initially got into Rimworld because I read people elsewhere crying about the developer's "terrible politics," which I learned were libertarian, so I laughed and checked it out. I normally avoid early access stuff, but it's quite playable and featured now and is still being actively developed.
Yeah if you've already got TW Warhammer you already have one long-standing DLC line to get through before the full game. I'm waiting for more of the DLC to come down and then Steam sale, but I haven't really liked the direction TW's been going since Shogun 2.
I almost exclusively care about multiplayer only, which was fun and customizable in Shogun 2 despite some Skinner box malarkey, and I skipped R2/Atilla after hearing dismal things. Apparently TW: Warhammer sold much better than anticipated so I hope they'll flesh some things out--the multiplayer is fun but relatively barebones--but they've really going to try and bleed every last drop on the DLC.
Ugh, I got Rome 2 at release and it was godawful. The base game's still not great, but the Divide et Impera mod at least makes it into something decent.
I find that the original edition of Rome is much more player friendly. Rome 2 added some nice ideas but it seems like they spent their capital on graphics and not only play-ability. At least that is my humble opinion.
My favorite part of DX:HR was where they gave you a side mission to go do something that a cynical/paranoid person would see as the conspirators trying to screw people, and you can basically ignore it and get vindicated later.
I *loved* Deus Ex when it came out. I tried to play it again after playing 2 and couldn't get through it because of the graphics (and I'm generally not a snob on that front).
It's still the bar I hold other games to for a balance of thoughtful context and engaging gameplay. Also the first place I read any de Tocqueville.
Heh, yep, it's the reason I read The Man Who Was Thursday. There are texture update packs that spice up the graphics, but I'm also somebody who's spent too much time in commandline environments, so the visuals aren't a big deal for me at all.
I think if I hadn't been stepping back directly from two which had so many quality of life improvements I wouldn't have minded. It can be brutal having to contend with weird interface issues when you know that some simple tweaks would've made such a difference.
Riven. I'm on my phone, so it's hard to grab the link, but check last night's PM lynx for her handle.
What's your handle on Steam?
reason_exile_jr
Nice.
Invites went out, my handle there is coloraDOOM.
Figured that was you.
I figured it was close enough to not worry.
I joined as "cineastted", from my blog name and my real name. (Yes, I'm a movie buff named Ted.)
Pear of Wisdom.
I was going to join, but they want 5 bucks for me to make a friend request. My name's not Rockefeller, goddammit.
What? I've used Steam almost since release and have never had to pay for a friend request.
Did you download the Super Capitalist version or something?
I clicked the link someone posted to the group yesterday, took me to a website, I created an account, tried to initiate a friend request, and it said I needed $5 in my Steam wallet or to spend $5 on the site to have that permission.
There was no download, it was just a website. I'd never heard of Steam before and I'm not a gamer. I only use mobile (phone and tablet), not an actual computer for this stuff because my laptop is from work and I can't install anything on it anyway. I guess I'm doing it wrong.
Huh. Well that explains why I've never run into that issue, I've spent far too much money on games through them.
At any rate it sounds like a few people are working on an alternative that is not Steam-based.
Steam is primarily a video game market. I'm not surprised they put in a few blocks to keep people from using it solely as social media.
I think it's more to prevent scammy behavior -- it gets you banned, but if accounts are free, that's not really much of an obstacle.
Riven told people to find her on Steam to stay in touch. Agamemnon organized a Reason steam group a year or two ago.
If you want older games, GOG is also a good option (though it doesn't come with an expat Hit n' Run group). Lots of people in the boat of trying to figure out how to make them work on modern hardware, and DRM free.
Hey folks, long time lurker and small time donater here, first time poster.
I'd like to get involved with the steam group as well, with the intent to keep in touch when somebody (Riven?) comes up with an alternative site/forum/etc so I can lurk (post?) there too.
I go by TheGreatSirNiko on Steam. Are you guys okay with Reason comment lurkers joining too? I usually read at work when I can't comment, but I'd like to become more active. I sent a friend invite to Homo_Cyberneticus, but as a lurker they wouldn't know who I am.
Love reading your comments more than the articles, hope I can keep doing that in the future too.
*staying tuned*
*tunes*
I'll be posting the remaining four parts of my own short story over the course of next week. Title undetermined.
Looking forward to that, Chesty.
Traitor.
Link for Steam?
Aga left the link in the *of course* article last night.
I can get on my computer and send it soon
Thanks. The Jacket article?
Yes. Its private, so we need an invite in. Ive been adding people from that group.

Or, ill get someone else to do it.
Thanks
Can someone send me an invite?
"Senator Clay Davis"
I'm the one with "Money Laundering" set to my real name.
What's going on? I might be able to help..
Coordination is more of a problem than the technical details. Anybody can set up a bulletin board. If that is all we needed, we could just take over Grylliade... /jk
What is this Steam business people keep referencing?
Steam is the vapor into which water is converted when heated.
Witchcraft!!!
Steamed hams. Old family recipe.
Well, I'm from Utica and I've never heard the expression "steamed hams."
I'm from Utica
Oh my God...
Tonio et al:
Popped by on a conference call and saw this. I'll join you in a libertarian alternative site.
I haven't seen anything yet that makes me regret my decision. Brushing off the story about sloopy's Mom really confirmed it for me. I believe that Reason is following the trajectory described by IowaHawk (hashtag "#lefties"):
(1) Identify a respected institution
(2) Kill it
(3) Gut it
(4) Wear its carcass as a skinsuit, while demanding respect
If you want to feel worse, stop by Dalmia's Twitter account.
One more way that IowaHawk has the New Reason (tm) pegged, given their brush off of sloopy:
Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow, until they stop moving.
SRC:
I don't twitter, and I never will. The Dalmia twits that have been posted on this thread are more than enough to convert my disdain for her into loathing.
Seriously, did Soros quietly buy Reason?
Is it time to legitimately blame the Kochtopus now? And I used to laugh that shit off...
Psshhhht. Roger that, Romeo Charlie.
And that's some tasty prose. Burge is a national treasure.
I'll repeat my suggestion from yesterday, insofar as many of us aren't gamers and don't want to spend money on Steam: we could recreate a commenter community easily and cost-free by using Slack.
Sup, bitchez!
Welcome back, don't leave!
Thanks bacon! I've been swamped with a work project. First time I'm getting a breather in weeks.
Hey-o
It's been a rough week for HnR commenters
Tell that to Reason.
"Some thoughts and opinions make us feel icky defending."
No, they believe you can voice your own opinions. They just think that you can use violence against that person if they have the 'wrong opinions'.

Fucking uppity nerds
They just think that you can use violence against that person if they have the 'wrong opinions'.
No, they are apologizing for assholes beating the crap out of innocent 3rd parties who said nothing.
BUT SHE WAS WEARING A HAT!!!
Robby Soave|Feb. 3, 2017 4:29 pm
Oh my god
I guess that was an honest mistake.
He knows what he's doing.
On his last day, he's going to post the PM Links 5 minutes after the AM Links.
His last day? Robby doing a walkout too? *tears of hopeful joy*
Probably got an offer from Slate.
All good things must come to an end.
So he's really leaving? To where?
No, not as far as any of us know. But when the Links are posted at a ridiculous time, then we will know.
ha ha got it
Or worse: 5 minutes before the AM Links.
11:59 - AM links
12:01 - PM links
Technically Correct!
The best kind of correct.
He's doing it just to fuck with us now.
He should know that Dalmia has now given us justification to pepper spray him because of his incitement.

"Read my column at The Daily Beast on why Steve Bannon and President Trump welcome the kind of violence that prevented Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking at Berkeley."
Your coworker Shikha approves of that violence too. Get woke
That's really the only thing needed to throw at her with any time she posts something: "You approve of violence, Shikha."
Jesus Christ, she's a moron, but if you're this shitty at reading comprehension when it comes to what Robby said go back to 4th grade.
Your coworker Shikha approves of that violence too refers back to the headline that says "Steve Bannon and President Trump welcome the kind of violence that prevented Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking at Berkeley". Not Robby.
I bet Robby spends half the article virtue signaling about how nasty Milo is. A subtle apology for halfheartedly defending his right to free speech.
I'll pass.
Yep.
But they don't get why the mood here has taken an ugly turn.
Because this one is surely different from the others.
I never go to the TDB ever since I went the first time hoping to see a daily pic of beasts. Instead I got Robby and Nick.
What a gyp.
I used to go to read the hysterical lefty-comments on nick-stories.
now, there's no point.
To be sure, Gil. To. Be. Sure.
It's the one he pimped this morning! Now he's double-dipping.
yo home sperm test brings male fertility testing to smartphones
the gold standard in automated semen analysis
You ever read something that your brain doesn't have a place for, and it's like getting bit on the stomach by a horse?
This feels like a conspiracy by Crusty to molest someone's smartphone.
Playing the long game, eh Crusty?
I, for one, am sick and tired of automated semen analyses that do not deliver on their promises!
yo home sperm test brings male fertility testing to smartphones yo mama
FTFY
Yo mama does so much male fertility testing, she had to get powered by a smartphone platform and supported by an interactive app experience complete with sperm education, animations and sperm trivia.
Well, if my phone screen's gonna get spooged on anyway...
"Sperm education"?
Does it give them swimming lessons?
It euphemistically gives them the lash.
They are definitely getting a beating.
The single, solitary citation for Milo supporters being violent has a couple of problems.
1) The source doesn't even mention whether the shooter was a Milo supporter. The reader has to track down other sources to find that.
2) More importantly, the 'protests' had become violent and the shooter later turned himself in. That strongly suggests that he was acting in self-defense. Libertarians don't typically think of self-defense as "lashing out with violence."
As a matter of fact?
The police let the guy go because he was apparently acting in self defense. And prosecutors are still debating whether or not to charge him. If there was strong evidence that he was not acting in self-defense, they would have charged and arrested him by now.
Seriously Robby, I dig the college beat stuff for the most part, but the violence and illiberal activities really only go one way. There's no reason to call Milo supporters violent at all or 'as illiberal' as the campus leftists. Doing so by misrepresenting your sources is also not ok, FWIW.
The violence on college campuses is completely one-sided. More false equivalencies by the woke minds at Reason
"CAN I GET SOME MUSCLE OVER HERE!"
Sigh. Any violence committed by anyone perceived perceived by SJWs to be right of them is unprovoked violence. They had it coming, anyway, because they were fascists (right, Shika?). Any violence commited by SJWs on anyone they perceive to be to the right of them is justified because words are exactly the same thing as bullets.
Here's a video where you can clearly see the shootee very deliberately close in on the shooter.
As noted above, police themselves thought it was self-defense. The last thing I read was that they were both opposed to Milo and one mistook a crossed-out swastika tattoo for, uh, a regular swastika tattoo, so it was actually a hilarious case of left-wing blue-on-blue fire, but I'm not sure if recent developments hold that up was true, and attempting to look through articles right now is revealing that there's a pretty dismal signal:noise ratio in this regard.
Note: that's the one incident Robby managed to dig up of Milo supporters being 'violent and just as illiberal as the left'. And it was self-fucking-defense.
Yiannopoulos isn't even a particularly strong vehicle for the anti-censorship message
Bullshit. There are zero degrees of being anti-censorship worthy.
At the end of the day, if a so called libertarian publication doesn't defend free speech- then what the fuck do they stand for? Free speech is a pretty god damn core principle.
And when they come for Reason, no amount of virtue signaling is going to save them then, to be sure
Woke Minds and Intersectional Solidarity
this is like people arguing in 2009 how Obama really fucked up "that whole Iraq thing".
Well, he did promise to leave by 2009, so while I didn't expect progress by February, he owned that dogpile by December.
My point was that Obama's people planned the Yemen strike months beforehand, and all Trump did was say, "Ok" when informed it was the plan.
I don't think any president deserves credit OR blame for the success or failure of these sorts of special-missions, and i think robby is being just as petty and shallow as the rabid Obama-haters were in this regard.
I liked Robby better when he was an alt-right sympathizer. This lefty schtick isn't a good look.
From Althouse via Instapundit, this was a surprisingly insightful quote from Bret Easton Ellis, of all people:
"If you wanna protest, protest the DNC, protest Hillary, protest whatever. But what you're protesting here is an elected president. I think the protest is aiding this divisiveness, social media is aiding this, celebrity culture, the worst, is aiding it.... It is all about image and how people are swayed by surfaces and Trump disgusts people.... They see this big orange lump, angry, big puffy face and it really is quite a different step from the celebrity hep-cat, glamour of Obama.... People love celebrities, I love celebrities, I'm obsessed with celebrities, I've written books about celebrities, so I love that celebrity culture exists. But when celebrities become these kind of strident, political advisers, wagging their finger, really people don't buy it. I do think there has been an overreaction to what's going on."

Fellow H,
I am doing as RC Dean, and refraining from adding my voice to this site ? a site that seems to have decided that being a thoughtful advocate of "Free Minds and Free Markets" is too constraining, and that they must be something else. I came here a "refugee" from TEAM RED, having realized that true freedom required shunning almost every aspect of politics, and dominion over ones fellow man ? for any reason other than to prevent actual harm. Now, I am seeing far too much equivocation by the editors/authors
I will peek in, every once in a while ? nothing is permanent (or at least I hope).
But for commentary and a libertarian discussion. There will be alternatives, soon?
And the OLD GUARD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my fellow commenters which are in Hit and Run, and have heard their cry by Reason of their Webmasters; for I know their sorrows;
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Dalmians, and to bring them up out of that site unto a good site and a large, unto a site flowing with snark and information; unto the place of the Catoites, and the Hihnites, and the AEIites, and the Politicoites, and the Huffingtonites, and the Jezzebelites.
*narrows gaze, fades out, Cheshire Cat style*
You will be missed, Swiss

Yeah, me too.

I'm also finished giving clicks and money after 5 years of loyal support. The slide from solid articles to click bait, twitter analysis and refusal to report on a loyal supporter's legitimate story are too much. I'd like to thank all the commentariat that provided useful commentary, honest debate, fashion resources and book suggestions. You will be missed.
Farewell also, F H. 8-(
I am intrigued and encouraged by Swiss's "There will be alternatives, soon?"
Damn. Well, if that is how we're doing this. Let me know where you all are going and I'll check it out. Steamer? Don't even know what that is, but not much point hanging out here anymore.
You will be miss. Don't leave!
*imploring gaze*
There is an alternative site in the works. You can join us there.
Whats the plan on that? User submitted articles?
I don't know. I was going to put up a blog but had to stop working on that due to personal issues. I understand that others have taken up the work.

I hope to see you at one of the alternatives. Your presence here was a positive one and I looked forward to your contributions. (I can say the same of many of the commenters who have decided to leave)
On a similar note, upon hearing Tonio's update and with great hope that a good and long-lasting alternative will come to be, I'm packing my trashcan and rolling on down the street. I'll hang out for the rest of the evening, but I'm out starting tomorrow morning. I'm not gonna hash out the reasons why, but I'll just say a goodbye and God bless.

Over 100,000 visas have been revoked as a result of President Trump's ban on travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries, an attorney for the government asserted in Alexandria, Va. federal court Friday. ... That figure was immediately disputed by the State Department, which said the number of visas revoked was roughly 60,000.
OK, if Trump wants to "drain the swamp" he can start by firing both the attorney and the spokescreature.
IT'S NOT TRUE.

Oh, gods, poor Chelsea Clinton! Being dragged down into the morass of Political Scumbaggery that surrounds her hideous parents! Couldn't she find something more moral, more ethical, less degrading to do with her life? I'm told that internet pornographers are always looking for young women willing to be filmed mating with large dogs. Or she could become a hit-woman for the Drug Cartels.
She could always get a job at the CGI. Ooops, that dried up once it became clear that it couldn't be used to launder bribes to the President.
Yeah, and, speaking of, it also became clear that the scion wasn't exactly waiting in the wings ready to deliver with her own political malfeasance. If she hasn't been shoved into some office by now... well, maybe she just doesn't have the raw lust for power her parents did. Small favors?
But she was so terrific on NBC!
She's not pretty enough to do bukakke films
Who doesn't fantasize about Webb Hubbell with tits covered in jizz? Amarite?
I'm sure she could find work in some fetid corner of the porn industry. And I'm equally sure that, whatever it was short of snuff, it would be less degrading than letting her revolting parents use her as a political puppet.
the question has long been not whether she would get involved in the family business,

There is a certain sense in which you could call islamists an alternative right. Especially ISIS, which basically just took Nazism, crossed out all the places where it said "German" and scribbled "Muslim" in over it. That's why opposition to Islam is racism now -- you can't be the Master Race unless you're, you know, a race.

Holy fucking shit. That is possibly the most irresponsible thing I've seen posted by a "journalist".

In any event, Reason, no matter how much right now the Koch's or other donors' money makes you feel invincible, it is extremely embarrassing for a magazine that values free minds and markets to have on their foundation, a writer who is publicly advocating, "When facts are always "alternative," brute force is all that's left in settling with intellectual opponents!"
When facts are always "alternative," brute force is all that's left in settling with intellectual opponents!
My god am I sick of people who would end up whimpering on the ground in fair fight calling for violence against others. Not that I want ex-Marines beating the shit out of people either, but the cowardice is disgusting.
Ex-Marine? Ain't no such thing, baby! RAHHHHHHHHH!
I suffered for five years - you're damned right I'm going to milk it for the rest of my life.
Among the top books chosen, Mattis recommended "No True Glory" by Bing West, "Battle Ready" by Tom Clancy, Sun Tzu's "The Art of War," ten of the most difficult books to read of all time, and The Bible. Marines, however, were only assigned four coloring books.
"Four? Good Lord, that's unfair," said Lance Cpl. Anderson Malcolm, a Marine infantryman who proudly displays his "good enough degree" on his barracks room wall.
My sympathies.
I get this confused all of the time. Which is the one that pisses you guys off: "ex-Marine" or "former Marine?"
There's got to be a shorthand for someone who was once in the Corps, and now isn't, but didn't retire.
It is. I hold people like her in more contempt than the actual; leftist thugs. At least the thugs have the balls to risk jail or someone fighting back. They are despicable but that is still better than someone like Dalmia who cowers in the corner encouraging and excusing them but would never do anything herself.
Shikha is advocating for Americans to kill Americans on the streets.
Yeah, with that last one, I think I'm done here as well. Everybody worth talking to is leaving anyway. If I want left leaning immigration commentary I can get it from The Atlantic from far cleverer writers who don't have a violence fetish. Fuck Shikha and fuck the Reason foundation for employing her. I only hope that some day this overprivileged cunt chooses to live the courage of her convictions and learns a hard (but brief) lesson about armed self defense. Welcome to America.

I'll have to amend my below summary of "Robby Rationales"
It's worse than that. See my comments above. He basically says the Milo supporters are just as violent/illiberal as the leftists and his source is a link where a pro-Milo dude was acting in self-defense at a violent protest.
FINE... i'll go read the thing...
'All that said' is today's "To be sure".
Never lead with the principle of the matter! Make sure the throat-clearing-denunciations precede any appeal to basic decency or civility. Also = Equivocate about violence, comparing destructive mob-riots with a single-instance of self-defense which has no clear connection to any 'supporters'.
I think most people are by now on board with the notion that Robby is a symptom of what's wrong with this publication.
I don't think "the publication" is inherently compromised.
i think there have been a few silly editoral and hiring decisions. I was here before they came, and i'll probably be here long after they're gone.
What does bother me is that they seem very very slow to recognize failing strategies. The people who argue that the tenor of the mag is to serve as "outreach" to non-libertarians have one serious flaw = Its not working
In the last 8 years, i haven't seen any enlargement of the libertarian POV being represented anywhere among millenials. Instead, i've seen things like Milo's version of the "Alt right" boom out of nowhere (*read, the "not really racist" version).... and libertarians are mostly seen as useless and toothless.
If there were a new strategy under Trump, i'd like to think it was more coherent than, "Just repeat the moaning complaints that everyone else in the media does".
Non-libertarians are a group that includes non-leftists as well as leftists. Nick can deflect and proclaim there is no "right or left", but as a matter of fact those two labels broadly describe one's views on human nature. Leftist's are not the natural allies of libertarians, they are natural enemies.
As I've said previously, Reason can reach out to leftists all they want but they're not going to make the left more libertarian, they're far more likely to make libertarianism more leftist. Most of those people cannot possibly be saved or redeemed. So they need to put their arguments out there and let them stand on their own merit, if a few leftists become libertarians, that's fine. But god damn it they shouldn't be accepting fallacious leftist premises in an effort to get progs and socialists to board our ship without first discarding their baggage.
The fact that so many writers have a foot in the door at a non- or anti-libertarian publication is what's wrong with this publication.
A man cannot serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other.
I think there is probably truth to this.
Its a launching pad for some, and a destination mostly for people who wouldn't *want* to be anywhere else.
the trick is finding the right kind of people for that former category. Its hard, i'm sure. Most hiring decisions are more a matter of finding 'competent' people who also are pleasant people to work with. Often the latter is more important than the former. Actually finding people with passion and talent is maybe more luck than hiring-foresight.
also, libertarians are like freaking hens-teeth. most people who say they ARE one often are the wrong sort entirely. its the people who don't really know they are who turn out to be the best ones.
When I'm interviewing someone, I don't even bother asking about skills anymore. Granted, there's vetting before they get to me but that's all I care about.
Robby just wants the left to push their agenda through non-violence means like debate...so they can then use a violent institution to enforce their will over you.
You know, like a libertarian should.
I'm not one to walk away from stupid people making bad arguments when there is so much dialectical slaying to be done, but I can absolutely understand the growing body of commentarians that just can't tolerate it anymore. Robby writes like a parody of himself.

My tipping point for that was the "don't talk to cops" video that a lot of people have seen, where a law professor has one of his students, a former detective, explain how often he saw people inadvertently incriminate themselves because they talked without a lawyer.
Like a lot of people, I grew up a good law and order type. It took a while and many stories before I realized that cops are not your friends.

Yeah, for some reason I read Jesse's comment above in Sir Mixalot's voice.
There is a documentary on Netflix about a guy who makes models of dungeons so you can see the story.
http://m.imdb.com/title/tt5170428/
That guy is awesome. Reminds me of the first time I played D&D. My brother invited me to play with him and his, hmmm, socially challenged friends. I was always a poon hound and gave up my Saturday night to sit in the basement with these dudes. They created a character for me which was actually me and did a little vote to evaluate my score. These fuckers gave me a 9 on charisma. I looked at their scores and they had all given each other 17s and 18s. Made me chuckle.
Have you watch the documentary? There is an insanely hot Asian lady with an eye patch. If I knew that was part of D&D I would have played.
I've only seen that video you posted. Seems like a KEWL guy. I'm not an obsessive D&D player and never was but always appreciated dorks that embraced the things they loved even if they were mocked for it. *Especially if they were mocked for it.
It's a really inspiring story. I won't give any spoilers, but if you have Netflix it's worth a watch.
an insanely hot Asian lady with an eye patch
Is it weird that I know someone like that?
I would love to do a libertarian centric campaign. Haven't played D&D in years. Anyone wanna start something?
Anyone wanna start something?
*throws whiskey bottle, rips off shirt*
COME ON! YOU SMELL PRETTY!
[Rolls charisma check]
Audi steps on its own dick, social signals on gender wage gap, then defends its own gender wage gap on the arguments which debunk gender wage gap *takes deep breath* HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Haha awesome.
That commercial is pretty bad. On the other hand, the people who buy Audis, likely think it is great. So, I am not ready to say Audi stepped on its dick here.
Best comment on the article:
Audi sedans are still priced at 53% more than Ford sedans. As a consumer that believes in progress, I am committed to equal pay for equal product.
They are wildly over priced for what you can get from a Ford or even a Cadillac. That wasn't always the case. But American car makers have gotten their shit together over the last five years.
You buy and Audi or a BMW for status or emotional reasons.
Audi is just a Volkswagen with a bit more make-up.
Yeah. The only true German car left is Porsche and Merc
Fucking hell I've been posting at reason for about 5 years and at the rate the Old Guard is fleeing, I'm becoming a senior member. Not the kind of promotion you like to get. Look yourself in the figurative mirror Reason.
I'm from the school they tore down to build the old school.
I go way back. Met VP at a conference when she was EIC. Harry Browne and Milton Friedman were there, among others. Must've started commenting 2000 or earlier.
How was Harry in person? If anything like his books must have been OK!
I would have loved to have met Harry. Now there's a libertarian. Last good LP nominee.
Met Harry a couple of times. Nice guy. Soft spoken. He broke complex issues down into digestible bits that appealed to the audience.
I only talked to him briefly, but he seemed like a serious libertarian. Friedman was impressive--and very short. David Brin was there, too. Talked to him a bit on privacy.
Jesus christ, did you tie an onion around your belt? I've been here since about 2006 though. The first issue of the magazine I actually read was the "Ova for Sale" one.
It was the style at the time!
Hit & Run
Maybe Reason had another outlet for comments before Hit and Run?
I too am a charter commenter. Many an interesting character has drifted through this forum. Or maybe it's just one of you with thousands of personae.
They had something for comments before 9/11. I want to say I even lurked here before I moved from CA in 1999.
It may not have been called Hit and Run though.
Pro L just meant "commenting"... that didn't mean online.
I sit in my basement and make comments all the time.
Or I was just going from memory. Seems like it was before 2002, but I won't swear to it. And there must've been some time spend lurking, right?
I feel like there was a comment section somewhere here before then too. I think I've been lurking since before 2000. I picked up a print copy of Reason on the USAir shuttle 1998 or so.
You are gonna have to start dispensing wisdom.
Why start now?
It stings.
This photo says so much about European Politics
the first thing that occurred to me was, the title of the story is about "Europe Uniting"
... but the three people pictured (Tsipras, Hollande, Merkel) are nothing if not the poster-children for "WHY THE EU IS LIKELY TO COLLAPSE"
I mean, I'm pretty sure every single one of them is going to be out of a job in the next 18 months (or sooner), and all of them are to blame for country-specific woes, as well as collective EU-relationship dissolution. what could they possibly be laughing about?
Francois Hollande, the outgoing Socialist president of France, led criticism of Trump, calling it "unacceptable" for him to applaud Brexit
Advocating Remain, however....
this is sort of funny = Brits unimpressed by Obama's use of the term "queue"
At a Vietnamese restaurant in London he asked "Is this the pho queue?"
I hope the EU breaks up
Monster!
They're drunk?
To be sure, Douglass said some reprehensible things that should be criticized.
Frederick Douglass's supporters were just as illiberal and violent as the other side. To be sure.
Commenting here clearly obligates Reason to get directly involved in all of our personal problems. I'm still pissed Gillespie didn't bring me breakfast in bed this morning as I ordered him to!
Unless your breakfast consisted of Foie Gras, there was nothing libertarian about it.
Fried sea turtle eggs seasoned with orphan tears.
I don't know what good it would do anyway. Who has ever been saved by reason covering their story?
Who was that dude that was taken off death row?
They got someone off death row? Really? Good for them.
John will never leave us.
Cory Maye
Balko's was the last great thing this mag really did (at least that i can remember). I'd count Ira Stoll's NYT nail salons piece up there, but sadly they didn't really stick with the idea. (busting the mainstream media in lies)
Maye counts. and I think they were of some assistance to the poor bastard down in Virginia who shot the cops kicking in his door by mistake.
But all of that was Balko. They lost Balko and hired Soave. There is no sugar coating it, that wasn't an upgrade.
Why should Reason care about mainstream media's lies? Their lies are useful to them now that there's a Republican president.
Some of the parents who have been fucked with for letting kids walk places?
Such an accurate summary!
From Trump's BotchedRaid link:
The Obama administration spent months planning the raid, but the New York Times reports that President Obama did not authorize the attack because the Pentagon wanted to conduct the attack on a moonless night, which wouldn't happen again during his term.
One of the three officials told Reuters, "The decision was made ? to leave it to the incoming administration, partly in the hope that more and better intelligence could be collected."
It sounds like having that plan hanging on the line for a few weeks might have provided al q with an opportunity to collect more and better intelligence.
"...the Pentagon wanted to conduct the attack on a moonless night, which wouldn't happen again during his term."
And then Trump was elected and the light, which had shone bright for eight years, went out all over the world.
The Reuters report does not offer any more detail on whether the officials fault the Obama administration for inadequate prep work as well, or what exactly they think the Trump team should have done differently.
Huh.
Was this in the nymag article? wow props to them
http://pjmedia.com/parenting/2.....stry-jobs/
Charter School trains kids for oil and gas jobs. This is for Progs what a school run by wife swapping atheists that taught kids satanism would be for SOCONs. The horror. These charter schools are corrupting our children!!
Trade schools? How unbecoming!
Kellyanne Conway misspoke?
Oh noes!
How will the Union survive?
Was this in the nymag article?
yes
Kind of shocked lol. Usually they just try to steer readers to a conclusion
So I just tried to delete my Reason account and got a 404 error. WTF did you use the money I gave you for?
You can only check in. You can never check out.
Sort of like the Hotel California.
Man, come on, H&R had a rough week, and we hate the fucking Eagles, man.
Here I thought they really tied the commentariat together.
Hey FH,
before you go, make sure to get plugged in with somebody here so that you can get info about the alternatives that are coming in the near future.
I don't check it often, but you can send contact info to (the first word of my username) [at] gmail.com. If you do, I'll make sure to keep you up to date.
So I just tried to delete my Reason account and got a 404 error. WTF did you use the money I gave you for?
They hired an Indian call center. Somebody with a funny accent will call and wheedle you into giving them one more chance, and please accept this special offer as a token of appreciation.
[insert Shikha Dalmia joke]
As a long time lurker, regulars, please don't leave. Your banter must continue, if only for my personal amusement. Although, I do get that #sloopysmommatters.
I haven't posted anything for awhile, but I do still occasionally lurk around. Sad to see Reason fall apart like this, another life claimed by Trump Derangement Syndrome, will we ever find the cure?
Anyways I noticed a lot of people posting about finding a new place to post, and comment, and I wondered if any of you guys have ever heard of Minds.com it's brand new, still in beta, but it allows you to create your own groups, and it could really use a Libertarian group. I've been posting in a anti-SJW group there for awhile (although sadly it looks like it's being infiltrated by a bunch of racist idiots).
Go there and make a group called Hit n Run exiles or something, I would do it myself, but I don't feel like playing moderator.
See what happens when you conflate issues? Violent responses to words and peaceful assembly are wrong. "I agree, but Pam Geller is...". I don't care. The issue is not her point of view. What's the point of denouncing the people whose free speech is being violated? It's just so damn vain.
When the reaction to speech is violence, the content of that speech becomes irrelevant.
I haven't read the comments yet...I bet they'll be tame and anodyne, right?
First, let me read Rico Suave's column on the campus riots...
I hope the last person at H&R remembers to turn out the lights. Sheesh.
Shikha Dalmia's latest abject stupidity:
So Trump's purge is what? Him firing federal workers or him suspending immigration temporarily from a small list of countries that was drawn up by Obama? Is Shikha trying to paint him as a Stalinist? That would be funny considering that she is an apologist for the violent actions of Stalin's ideological kin.
firing federal workers for open and very public insubordination
Let's be perfectly clear on what happened
Yeah but they were actual people, unlike those right-wingers!
The most ridiculous part though really is that she's ridiculing this person and "the right" for having more anxiety over the unfathomable catastrophe that is Obamacare than they do about some left-activist federal employees and Obama appointees getting fired from their tax funded jobs. At what point will someone with some sayso pull her fucking card? I'm sure the No True Scotsman arguments will flow, but this woman is nothing resembling a libertarian and she's a damn fraud for claiming such.
