Reason TV A federal judge in New York in temporarily halted portions of President Trump's executive order suspending entry to the U.S. from seven "countries of concern," ordering that legal permenent residents and others already approved to enter the U.S. be allowed to do so. Later on over the weekend, John Kelly, the secretary of homeland security, issued a statement that all legal permanent residents from the countries of concern would be permitted. Democrats in the Senate say they will introduce legislation to overturn the order; some Senate Republicans have also criticized the move. Trump spoke with the king of Saudi Arabia and the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates, and according to the White House they agreed to set up safe zones for refugees in the Middle East. Uber turned off surge pricing during protests against the order at JFK Airport, where taxicabs had joined protesters. It was called a strike breaker for extending the courtesy and is now the target of a boycott for its CEO sitting on an advisory council for Trump.
- A U.S. commando was killed in the first counter-terrorism raid in Yemen since 2014, and the first operation ordered by Trump. The U.S. says it killed 14 militants while local reports say about 30 people, including 10 women and children, including the 8-year-old daughter of Anwar al-Awlaki, were killed.

THERE WAS AN ALL STAR GAME, YOU KNOW.
No, I don't know.
Hello.
All versions of the all-star games feel even less exciting than preseason to me. The skill competitions can be kind of fun, but in a "on in the background way", not something I'm going to actively watch.
Give me a game with actual consequence. On that not, I've still got some Super Bowl squares left. $10 per square to win prizes of $100 for the score at the end of the first 3 quarters, and $200 for the final score (with the remaining money going to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation). So even if you're not a fan of either team at least you'll have something to root for during the game!
I don't know how you could assign consequence, other than giving home ice advantage in the finals to the winning conference, but you'd have to go back to the old East vs West game. The current scheme is marginally more interesting. But as for making the games mean something, no one wants to put all their stars in one basket if that basket might demand actual checking and shot blocking.
I didn't mean that they should make all-star games meaningful. I meant "screw all-star games, I'll just watch real games". MLB's home field advantage all-star game was dumb and still didn't make me interested.
I accept your apology.
The AFC defeated the NFC in the Pro-Bowl held in Hawaii.
Am I missing a joke here? The game was in Orlando, FL.
As with most of the so-called "mainstream" media these days, facts and accuracy are more or less optional and an afterthought here at Reason.
Where do you get your real news from, Mikey?
'Alternative' sources, Rusty Muggler - #poopy.
How do you expect them to get that right with this Trumpocalypse going on? Didn't you know Trump created a worldwide crisis over the last couple of days?
It was officially the Pepsi Presents: The Ford All-Pro Game Sponsored By McDonald's, Featuring The All-New Nokia Phone Line-up, Brought To You Live From Beautiful Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii In Orlando, Florida.
The Pro Bowl game has usually been held in Hawaii, so laziness?
The NHL put out a 100 Greatest list.
An incomplete if not dumb one if you ask me.
A few players on the list are anything but dominant.
See below. Gretzky's got some long coattails. Larry Brooks wrote a shockingly sensible article about it in the Post.
An all-star game which prompted me to wonder if Grant Fuhr is the most overrated player in any sport's history or just his own. Dude was barely a top-15 goalie in his own era, never mind of all time.
Compared to some of those players on the list, Fuhr is the least offensive (at least he played well in the playoffs).
Tim Horton? Wtf? Over Pierre Pilote? Chara?
And don't get me going on Shanahan, Nieuwendyk (the media have hard ons for those two), Oates, Barber, Modano, Kane, Gartner, Lafontaine and a few others. Why them and not , say,Thornton, Ciccarelli, Chara, Iginla, Hawerchuk? Shit, Perry or Getzlaf too. It's so dumb. And why cap it at an arbitrary 100 anyway?
All solid players but get real.
None of them dominated.
Yeah, I agree - there's a lot of questionable choices there and I don't disagree with anything you've pointed out. I've got a particular hard on for Fuhr though. I started watching hockey right in the middle of his prime and he was already below average. It's like looking at a GOAT list and seeing Mike Smith on it. Most of the guys there were at least top-5 at their own position for an extended period.
Generational bias is my guess. The bulk of the living HHOF and the league admin grew up watching or playing with the guys that dominated the list.
Agree on Fuhr. Wasn't a great epoch for goalies.
Blue Ribbon tissue paper.
I always liked Shanahan - one of the most complete all around players of his era. But 100 is a small number and this is an old sport. As usual, I'm sure the ancient players on the list were truly great, and the more contemporary ones more questionable.
He was the go as lue for a team that won multiple Cups, therefore he must be a superior goaltender. That Edmonton was an offensive team a bit indifferent to playing defense does not matter.
I often find that people have totally forgotten that it was actually Andy Moog standing between the pipes the first time the buzzer sounded to signal that the Oilers were Stanley Cup champions.
Is Orlando in Hawaii?
282) (Part I of II) When I was a kid, I had a friend who could never let any contradiction pass him by. If he stated a fact, and somebody said, "That's not true," or, "You don't know what you're talking about," he would argue and argue, no matter how obvious it was the other kid was just trying to bust his balls. It didn't take long for other kids to catch on and every day at recess they would rile him into a crimson-faced sputtering rage. He was constantly in and out of the principal's office for screaming at other kids, which they had driven him to. It was pretty sad, because he was bright, creative, and funny when you weren't pushing his buttons. I actually liked hanging out with him after school.
(Part II of II) Which brings me to this. I admit it's a lot funnier being on the other side! Come on, Democrats, you don't have to react to every little thing. There doesn't need to be a nationwide demonstration every Saturday. It doesn't' matter if you're right, and you just know you are, and the other person is an idiot. By getting worked up, you lose. No one cares about your message when you overreact to everything. You're that red-faced fifth-grader on the blacktop with tears running down his cheeks because somebody won't believe his uncle owns a Porsche.
Shut your face, childhood friend of Tulpa.
Nuh uh
A fate worse than death.
That sounded like a sort of mini-sermon to me....
Shush. That's part of the cuteness of the thing.
you don't have to react to every little thing
Oh, but they do, JATNAS, they so do. First, outrage over Trump prevents them from asking their leadership tough questions about their drubbing in the recent election. Second, they've stated that they are going full opposition to the President; see point number one, also payback for the perceived snubs against Obama. Third, they have convinced themselves that if they fail to oppose any one action they are giving in; but they will not be able to maintain this momentum over the coming weeks and months.
What's funny is that Trump is using pace to keep them in a permanent state of outrage. By doing 5 or 6 things they hate a week, they can't even decide which to protest next Saturday. When the protests become just a weekly event - regular people will simply ignore as they live their lives.
*Forms Protest Against Lack of Reaction to My Protest*
*Protests white silence*
I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.
Civil disobedience?
You could stage a sit-in.
As a bonus, it is a lot less work than marching or picketing.
Picket with a stupid sign like "Picketing is pointless" or even better, a message not completely at odds with the point of the protest, but completely at odds with the ideology of the picketers.
For example go to an immigration or women's rights protest with a sign that says "Free minds and Free markets", "No more of Bush/Obama/Trump's NSA spying" or "I'm a small business owner and I did build that".
Try a chain link fence instead.
It will become a soap opera: As the Protests Turn!

I'm sure the left won't have a problem with that, right?
Read an interesting analysis somewhere that the deal Trump is trying to put together with Russia on Syria would freeze out the Iranians. Which would be good, it seems. Of course, what kind of "pacification" would be needed to do that might be a bridge too far.
Did the King meet him when his plane landed?
Did Trump bow before his majesty?
It was called a strike breaker for extending the courtesy and is now the target of a boycott for its CEO sitting on an advisory council for Trump.
Ah, the point at which protests many can get behind start to overreach.
We must now protest Uber for not protesting.
This protest actually has merit, unlike the women's march last week. They have an actual policy they are upset about, so protesting makes sense... And then they go and say you should boycott Uber because they'll actually let you get to and from the airport when you need it. So I should be upset with a company for being convenient?
Yes, how dare they interrupt the virtue signalling by not spreading the inconvenience around!
I once had a taxi driver yell at me and some co-workers "Uber is only good for consumers, not drivers!".
Yeah, well, I'm not a driver, lady, so...
If that were so, why would anyone agree to do it?
Because those people aren't drivers, they are "drivers".
Literal enslavement.
I bet they're just polishing their monocles and downing cocktails at Uber HQ.
Not just that. The point of protesting at the airport is that the Feds were detaining people and stopping them from leaving the airport. So, to protest that, these people wanted transportation from the airport to halt, meaning... even more people are stuck at the airport. Making them all as bad as Trump!
"Uber turned off surge pricing during protests against the order at JFK Airport, where taxicabs had joined protesters."
So it's not okay for Trump to strand people at the airport, but unionized taxi drivers are heroes for doing it?
NYC taxi drivers concerned about immigration policies? Now I've heard everything.
*golf clap*
Muslims creating inconvenience for americans as payback. Surefire way to win sympathy.
So Uber screwed its drivers. Is that what's being protested? I'm gonna need a scorecard to keep up with all the outrage, protests, boycotts, etc.
Report: Quebec City Mosque Shooter Yelled 'Allahu Akbar'
This is impossible. Every news story I read talked about Islamophobia and pig heads. They all managed to work in Trump as well.
I noticed the constant Trump connection too
"This occurred days after something else in a different country that couldn't possibly be related but we just want to remind you how we feel about it"
Trump is pigheaded. Duh!!
That story was breaking when I went to bed last night. On Twitter lots of tweets from Canadian MPs and other prominent figures decrying bigotry and expressing solidarity with Canadian Muslims and refugees. One guy explicitly blamed Trump for the shooting.
This morning I check the same trending hashtag and it's crickets except for some right-wingers denouncing the predictably biased media coverage that memory holes shootings not perpetrated by white people.
Except for the Bad Muslims, who probably illegally voted for Trump before they went on this latest rampage.
What happens when it is revealed that the attackers were recent refugees?
To the Memory Hole!
Spin Machine on!
I'll make a guess that it won't be a recent immigrant or refugee.
Lone wolves, etc., etc.
They'll vote to let more in because they need help controlling their anger?
Workplace violence.
That's the problem with the media refusing to call it terrorism when it is. Then people are going to decide it's always terrorism, even when it's not.
Though, screaming "allahu ackbar" and opening fire on people is a pretty good indicator.
Yeh saw that actor from Silcon Valley blame Trump. Which is retarded and par for the course for the ignorant left. Quebec's uneasiness with Muslims pre-dates Trump - see Charter of Values.
Kumail I'm guessing? He can be very funny when he's not in self-appointed liberal spokesperson mode, which is too often
BBC News still has a link to a story about right-wing extremists bundled with the link for this story. No mention of any past misbehavior in Canada coming from elsewhere on the political spectrum.
The report seems, on the face of it, confusing, since the target was a mosque
Whoever wrote that must not pay attention to the Middle East.
More wishful thinking than anything else. They want a hate crime story to run for a week, not one of sectarian violence (which apparently isn't a hate crime).
That's a prank, not a hate crime. Maybe a hate prank?
I love that Trudeau's initial response was to reassure Canada that diversity is their strength. Look how strong they are, everyone!
According to this story, the dead Quebec Muslims may have been guilty of "moderation". Salafists sorted them out.

I had a feeling the perp was Muslim the second I learned that they were in custody, and yet weren't sharing further details. The media and government are so predictable that even their omissions are informative.
I mentioned last night that a "2-man" shooting is more typical of a terror-attack than "racist-mass-shooting"
sounds like it may be Sunni-on-shia or Fundy-on-'liberal muslim' attack.

That was a depressing and anger inducing email chain.

No, then Reason and the rest of the MSM doesn't give a shit. Probably got what she deserved with her white privilege and all.
Score a few Trump Points at the expense of sloopy's mom. Stay classy, skidmark.
wut? I must have missed this story.
We've had a few side threads on it over the weekend. Short version: she's a nurse (RN). She was at a high school basketball game where her husband was coaching. A kid had a severe asthma attack and collapsed near the sideline. She went to his aid while the EMTs were called. She tried to get the ref to pause the game while she rendered aid and to allow the EMTs access. When the ref refused, she got... assertive, because of her duty to the patient. Cops tackled and beat her.
Jeebus that awful. Thanks for filling me in.

Candace Wheater, a 60-year-old retired school cafeteria worker from Spring Lake, Michigan, also referenced the attacks in Brussels and Paris.
"Look at what's happening in Europe," she said. "I don't dare travel there, out of fear."
Does this mean there's a job opening? I'm obviously in the wrong line of work because my reason for not travelling to Europe is because I can't afford it. Why were the high school counselors pushing us kids to get into such fields as computer programming and aerospace engineering instead of the lucrative field of school cafeteriology?

"It is heart-wrenching to see such senseless violence," Trudeau said in a statement. He also offered his sympathies to the victims and his support to Canada's Muslim community. "Diversity is our strength, and religious tolerance is a value that we, as Canadians, hold dear," he said. "Muslim-Canadians are an important part of our national fabric, and these senseless acts have no place in our communities, cities and country."

Prime Minister Zoolander went on to talk about how much better they would've been off in glorious Cuba under his father Fidel Castro.
He's an idiot.
Don't pick on him, his father Fidel Castro just died.
Beyond that the facts of this attack are not yet fully known, and as far as I know he didn't call for any stupid legislation, I don't see this dolt's particular statement being out of line.
Canned moral preening is Trudeau's main export. It's obnoxious and he does it constantly. Everything is contextualized in vapid, idiotic statements where he lectures Canadians on how his values are their values (and then later says Canada has no values, because Zoolander).
Admittedly part of this comes from me reading his book, which is rife with this bullshit, and how it's rather obviously intended to prop up his shitty self-image.
As far as this dope goes, no it isn't out of line. Just more insufferable vacuous nonsense as JT points out.
I'll allow your criticisms then, as I am not subjected to a steady dose of the man.

Be able to virtual signal as loud.
Blame Trump.
I hope he gave the speech in French, since it was about events in Quebec.
I'm still quite taken aback by the response he gave to a English speaking Quebecer who asked about the shortage of English-language services for mental health and he gave plattitudes in French.
Canada should grow a spine, throw out French as an official language and say "if you really want out, leave, we're not humoring you any more".
Need a constitutional amendment to completely do that.
Well, Quebec can't have it both ways anymore.
I support one.
And then I'll leave. It truly is tiresome and heavy on the mindset. Montreal paid a significant economic price. So much so it will NEVER regain the position it once had as Canada's top city. It forever lost that spot to Toronto. A tale of two cities going in opposite directions.
And yes, I fall in the category of people who blame 1976.
You must understand, the proggies said it so it must be true: "virtue signaling" is a meaningless phrase and someone saying it is showing that they're an asshole and nothing more.
In other words, keep up the salvos, *boys. It hurts them.
*Yes, I said "boys." And I meant cis white males by it. Triggered? Fight me!

Much knowledge is dropped in the article?.
I'm not gonna lie ? I don't understand ALL the implications of getting rid of the mortgage tax deduction, but if it causes liberals to have to live with the consequences of their progressive enclaves, then I hope it comes to fruition?
... I just bought a house. I don't have very many deductions as it is.
Can we cut some spending to make this hurt less?
My state paycheck isn't enough! Give me mah subsidy!
Getting rid of the mortgage interest deduction would be a massive middle class tax hike.
Mah social engineering!
We could cap it instead, ameliorating the effects for the middle class.
It's already capped at a million dollars of mortgage debt.
And lower the cap over 30 years to zero.
No surprises to anyone then.
Inflation will lower the threshold over time.
Effectively.
Yes, but even having it in existence will invite raising the threshold.
Doubtful. The $400 1099 threshold was never raised. Neither was the auto reporting cash withdrawals of $10,000 (that one was even lowered).
Nor was the $200 NFA tax (I know, opposite end of the beast, but still)
The 1099 threshold is $600.
Or raise the standard deduction, as Trump wants to do.
Raising that knocks more people out of itemizing.
Yeah, I remember there was a flap about Trump wanting to raise the standard deduction high enough that most people would no longer need to itemize their deductions and the flap was that Trump wanted to eliminate itemized deductions for the middle class, i.e., raise taxes on them. Itemized deductions, like the AMT, were supposed to be something aimed at the rich with complicated income streams, not something the average paycheck earner would ever get involved in.
And the Tax system isn't supposed to be a lawyer and accountant full employment act.
Don't tell H&R Block that. Those bastards actively lobby for complications.
As someone looking to buy his first house this year I was rather looking forwarding to having the system be unfair in my favor for a change.
It's not like I don't suffer already from Medicare and Social Security raiding my paycheck every two weeks.
Tax increase.
Not for me. I don't own a house....
I don't make a million dollars a year, so I see nothing wrong with taxing millionaires at 90%.
I don't drink soda, so I don't see the problem with tax sugary drinks at 50%
I'm not dead or dying so I have no problem with increasing the estate tax to 90% for the next 5 years so those damn rich kids won't get their parent's money.
I could go on like this...
I don't have a mail order bride, so I see nothing wrong with closing the borders.
Why do you keep saying this?
He's hurt that the mail order brides all turned him down.
Gee, I don't know, maybe because you think you should be allowed to "import" people into the country even though I didn't agree to that, but you don't think others should be allowed to do the same?
No, couldn't be that.
I get that you're trying to insult me by constantly referring to my wife as a "mail order bride" because you are a total piece of shit, I get that. What I don't get is why you think my position is that no one should be allowed immigrate, because I've never fucking said that.
You say this and you attack strawmwen because you're a degenerate troll.
Your position is that you should have a say in the immigration of others. But I didn't get a say in the immigration of your wife. So get fucked.
Right, my wife immigrated here illegally, completely circumventing the laws in place....oh wait. Move those goalposts. Great arguments as usual. Thanks for playing, troll.
Mexican mail order brides are meh, and if you get one from the Middle East, they'll probably just pull a bait and switch and send you a used Yazidi sex slave. Get a Russian.
Ok, thanks for the pedantry. I think I got that concept (and have for a while now) but I don't think its as simple as a two word explanation - particularly if it can be tailored to avoid the middle class. But thanks for the libertarian lesson that taxes are bad...
I think you just double-underlined his point.
"tailored to avoid the middle class" is exactly "i'm not a millionaire so a 90% tax on millionaires is fine by me.
Pedantry? Oh fuck that. You said that the mortgage tax deduction wasn't bad because it doesn't impact you directly. Setting aside the shallowness of that position, I made some analogies, I didn't insult you. It would be a tax increase that impacts homeowners as well as renters and would no nothing to increase free voluntary economic exchange, removing it would only further hinder economic activity.
Yes, Pedantry, fucktard. I never said the mortgage tax deduction wasn't bad - I never said any such thing. I said I didn't understand all the aspects of the issue (which you in your smug pedantic way explained as a "tax increase") and I said that if it if it causes liberals to have to live with the consequences of their progressive enclaves, then I am for it. I also said it wouldn't apply to me and you quoted me your version of the "When they came for the Jews, I said nothing..." argument. Great. You still haven't explained anything about this issue to help clarify why it is unqualifiedly bad, but you have misquoted and mischaracterized me, dickhead.
You know I've always been on good terms with you, I don't recall us ever having a problem and I've always been respectful towards you. And then you go and do this. Honestly and truly I think it's a real shame you would conduct yourself like this.
It was a simple two word answer. No smug intended, but I can't control what you read into a simple two word answer. The fact that it's a tax increase is the heart of the issue, that why I offered a simple answer such as that.
Ummmmmmm, no. Your response to my apparently superduper smug "tax increase" answer was not to clarify your position, you said "Not for me. I don't own a house....". You literally argued that "tax increase or not it doesn't affect me", which combined with your earlier statement saying that you'd like to see that credit eliminated, tells me that you support it because you don't think it impacts you.
Seriously, I'm at a loss for words that you act like this. I did clarify what was unequivocally bad when I said "tax increase", that answer still stands. You failed to respond to that argument, all you did was call names and burn the bridge of someone who has always been friendly towards you up until this point and someone who has come to your defense on many issues on many occasions.
"...tells me that you support it because you don't think it impacts you."
Soooo, I'm not the only one reading things into people's comments? Good to know.
Saying "tax increase" is not exactly a nuanced - or even supported - argument, though you went into a little detail later. Then characterized me as the kind of guy that goes for more government intrusion and regulation as long as they don't affect me. That could be construed as casting aspersions on my character, when I had already stated I didnt' get all the implications of the issue.
You absolutely DID make the "When they came for the Jews, I said nothing..." argument, as if I would have never heard that. Let me make it back to you in a slightly different way.
I'd support First Amendment free speech even if it meant that the Westboro Baptist church got to protest the funerals of fallen heroes.
I'd support First Amendment freedom of assembly even if it meant Nazis got to march past the homes of holocaust victims in Skokie, Ill.
I'd support the Fifth Amendment even if it meant rapists, child molesters, murderers, and arsonists sometimes went scot-free.
I'd support the Eighth Amendment even if it meant the government couldn't torture terrorists in a ticking time bomb scenario.
I guess I must be a libertarian.
Now, if you aren't going to explain to me little known aspects of the mortgage tax deduction that I might have missed, go fuck yourself.
Hmmm, how might someone have surmised that you support the tax increase because you don't think it impacts you? Well let's see....
MC:
FS:
MC:
Is it that hard to see how I might have thought you support eliminating the tax credit?
See this is you taking shit way too personal. I didn't characterize you as anything, I responded to exactly what you said. I chose my examples on millionaire tax, soda tax and estate tax because I figured you were opposed to those things and I was hoping you'd see the parallels. I didn't characterize you as anything when I offerred those examples. See unlike some people, I don't make arguments personal and I don't take arguments personally unless that person gives me reason to take it personally, like when they start deliberately trying to insulting me because we disagree about something.
So you don't like my answer that it amounts to a tax increase, therefore I can go fuck myself. For a minute there I thought I might be debating a well reasoned person genuinely interested in the topic. But no, I'm debating someone who's either trolling or is having a bad day and doesn't have the emotional maturity to actually debate an issue without base insults.
This whole interaction with you has been a real shame. I thought you were better than all of this nonsense.
Sorry to have disappointed you, Dad.
Nice smug there.
Do FUCK off, little man....
Why do you just keep doubling down?
So.... you'll fuck off?
That's what I don't get. It takes the combined energy of two brain cells to toss around insults on the internet. I don't employ that tactic because you can't actually damage your opponent's argument with it and nothing says you're an intellectual cripple better than leaning on it like a crutch.
See this is you taking shit way too personal....
Was about to say something similar...
Ypu landlord takes the mortgage interest deductions.
Your rent will go up.
I cant see a real estate guy like Trump doing this.
Raising the standard deduction yes.
Your landlord deducts mortgage interest as a business expense. Eliminating the mortgage interest deduction would not change that.
Could you elaborate on that ?
There's not much too elaborate on. The landlord (usually an LLC or LP or S corp) can deduct the cost of operating the business. This includes interest on the debt financed property. No different than Ford deducting interest on a debt-financed factory.
On personal returns, tax deductions are more restrictive than on corporate returns. Mortgage interest on personal residences is currently deductible. But perhaps not for long. If you own six homes, you don't get to deduct the interest on all of them.
"If you own six homes, you don't get to deduct the interest on all of them."
I didn't know that....
Now call him an asshole.
Stop being gay, sparky!
Mortgage interest deduction is for primary residences - not business/rental properties.
Jarfax
Thanks for setting me straight.
I knew that but my pre coffee brain was associating it with property tax increases which I see argued often.
^This.
Tax increase.
Or, a simpler flatter tax code with fewer special interest deductions.
As long as they don't get credits, your just letting people keep their money.
That wasn't the proposition.
mortgage tax deduction
My brother-in-law called me Saturday to tell me he got his W-2 and wants me to come over and do his taxes. Which I'm dreading because his taxes are a real simple short-form but he always wants me to figure them both ways and when I explain to him - again - that he doesn't have enough deductions to itemize he wants to argue about it. And again I'll have to explain to him that it's not a mortgage deduction, it's a mortgage interest deduction. Yeah, we used to file long-form and take the deduction but once you've got the mortgage paid down to the point where you're paying principal instead of interest, the deduction is no longer valuable so stop asking me why we're not itemizing your deductions to take off the house payment.
And again I'll have to explain to him that it's not a mortgage deduction, it's a mortgage interest deduction.
He sounds smart.
Use Tax Slayer or Turbo Tax and let the computer settle the argument.
The home mortgage interest deduction encourages you to go into debt for a house. Going into debt is not necessarily a good thing. For you. For the government, it means you're going to stay put in one place where they know where to find you - and you're going to have to be working hard to stay gainfully employed at generating tax revenue like a good little cash cow. And to pay off that mortgage. That part doesn't concern the government, though, just the tax revenue-generating cash cow part. Moo!
Home mortgage deduction encourages you to go into debt to buy a house like not charging a soda tax encourages you to drink soda until you're 500 pounds. 'Not taking' is not the same thing as 'giving'.
What will happen to home prices if you get rid of the deduction?
Are you saying they won't drop by at least 10%?
Isn't this more about the price of financing? I'm not sure how the home price going up or down really changes the fact that 'not giving' isn't 'taking'. Is it necessarily bad if home prices fell by ten percent if that is the case? If reducing taxes changes the price of something, I dare say the price of that thing is more reflective of real value than the presence of a tax would produce.
So you want landlords to pay income tax on 100% of their rent received and not be allowed to write off expenses? Doesn't seem feasible. Or do you want landlords exempted but homeowners living in their homes not exempted? That would be a pretty distorted market.
I wonder how many IRS cases have been filed with a Single Proprietorship business with a husband (or wife) renting their home to their husband (or wife)? I imagine that's a relatively common type of fraud.
Why do you assume only gays and lesbians do this you homophobe.
There was an inyernet post I read once where if a couple dont legally marry they can use government benefits to live a comfortable life.
It included the man buying a house and renting it to the baby momma through section 8 for her and the kids and he keeps a P.O. box.
Landlords do not use the mortgage interest deduction. They deduct mortgage interest as a business expense. The mortgage interest deduction is a special deduction for NONBUSINESS mortgage interest.
Botox is booming among millennials ? some as young as 18
My balls are still wrinkly.
Have you tried a steam iron? That keeps mine smooth, shiny, and wrinkle-free.
There's nothing quite like someone who can't move their face.
Gross.
Botox is being pushed as migraine treatment now. Does that not account for the bump? Is this specifically looking at its use as a face treatment?
If you have migraines that occur more than 15 days in a month. That's pretty severe.
I've had Botox injections for migraines in the past (mine have been known to immobilize me most days of the month some times ? I lost most of my twenties to them). It didn't cure them, but it probably cut the number in half or so. Too bad that I shortly thereafter lost my insurance!
Every SJW has a retrograde uncle, it's mandatory
Followed by strawmen galore....
Somehow I feel this may be a biased perspective of the conversation.
The biggest barrier to minorities in education and employment is Affirmative Action - it prevents asians who are well suited to the opportunity from excelling and puts blacks and hispanics in positions where they are being set up to fail instead of letting them find where they will have a better chance to succeed.
There is absolutely zero chance that conversation was held anywhere but inside the author's head.
my uncle problematically responded, "Well, it's just human nature to divide the world into different races, so what can you do?"
So your uncle, decades your senior and far wiser and more experienced than you, tried to impart some knowledge and perspective about the world. And you didn't hear a word. What a surprise!
The author is pro-affirmative action, so they're all about dividing the world into different races.
Was about to say, it sounds like her uncle was agreeing with her.
One of my cousins went on a post Thanksgiving tirade about her uncle (who also happens to be my stepdad). There were probably 30 comments on her post featuring the usual SJW bullshit before I pointed out that my cousin wasn't even in the same state as her uncle on Thanksgiving.
That's hilarious.
I'd print a copy of the post and frame it. Gift it to the rest of the family at Christmas.
What about... I don't know.. Just being an adult and avoiding discussing politics with everyone all the time?
But then how are they supposed to educate their stupid, backwards thinking elders?
Had a business dinner last week. We agreed to not talk politics until we were done eating.
Then we disagreed about nearly everything political. But, we are adults, not arrested development cases, so it was all good.
The end.
Uncle Strawman, the relative everyone loves to hate.
"Uncle Strawman loves American football. So he's why American football should be called 'soccer' and every game should start with a conservative auto-da-f?."
"Dammit, Uncle Strawman. I decide if I can poop on your car or not!"
"Pass the potatoes, Uncle Strawman. I know you think menstruating women shouldn't eat mashed food, but I'm so brave I've going to do it anyway!"
Right, because although Obamacare chased literally every insurance company out of the rural part of the state where I live, I just go to the hospital and show my White People ID Card and they join in on the fantasy of my white privilege by pretending that my visit is covered and then passing the bills off onto the nearest poor black family.
Tao, 98-year-old poster child for yoga and wellness
Crusty, we need a ruling here.
She's, like, 45% HEAD... wtf?!?
It's Yuuuuugge!
When she nods I bet she looks like a life-size bobblehead.
Is there something wrong with head?
I wonder where her money is from, because you don't in Westchester and travel the world on a yoga teacher's pay.
The Question the Times Should Have Asked 'Writer' Barack Obama
What makes him a literary genius?
How can a memoir of a politician be any good if it's written before he's even old enough to be eligible to president?
Joe Klein of Time has called Obama's 1995 Dreams from My Father "the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician."
Ulysses S. Grant would like a word, Mr Klein....
"the best-written memoir ever produced by an American politician"
These conditions seem artfully chosen to come up with just the right result.
key word - "produced", as in executive
Holy fucksticks.
Obama wrote two books about the only subject that really interested Obama, That subject was Obama.
FTFY
JFK won a Pulitzer for the book he wrote. Obama won a Nobel. QED.

Trump takes aim at Sen. Schumer's 'tears' in new defense of immigration restrictions
President Trump launched into a fiery Twitter defense of his controversial refugee and immigration restrictions Monday, blaming protesters and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer's 'tears' for difficulties at U.S. airports, and urging his opponents to "study the world!"
Trump signed an executive order Friday that imposed a 120-day suspension of the refugee program and a 90-day ban on travel to the U.S. from citizens of seven terror hot spots, including Iraq, Syria, Somalia and Sudan.
The order sparked chaos at the nation's airports as customs agents struggled to interpret the order, and outraged civil rights groups and Democratic lawmakers -- some of whom attended protests at the nation's airports where some travelers had been detained.
Schumer, D-N.Y., who has pledged to fight the order "with every fiber of my being" tweeted Saturday, that "there are tears running down the cheeks of the Statue of Liberty tonight."
I can help but be filled with cheer at the sight of Chucky in tears.
This is what it sound like the hawks doves cry.
Tears lubricate the moobs for arcane sexual uses.
"Chuck & Don - A Love Story."
*projectile vomits ritualistically*
Vomiting, but with chanting and incense.
This was the best possible humanitarian outcome from the beginning. For the same cost of putting one migrant in the west, they could help 12 migrants in the Middle East in this way. Plus we get the added benefit of lower terrorist risk and fewer gang rapes.
Yeah, and they get to live in such lovely terrorism and theocracy-free regions as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
I'm sure all the Shia Iraqis and Syrians displaced by ISIS will find a welcome sanctuary therein.
ISIS only "captured" Sunni territory in Iraq, where they found more willing subjects. ISIS isn't a JV team, but they sure aren't varsity enough to capture and hold areas dominated by an unruly Shia population.
Even if they did, they would have just exterminated the people there, so there wouldn't be anyone to help.
Which doesn't exactly mean there aren't Shia in those regions.
I see you haven't visited there recently...there were a bunch of Shia refugees within Iraq from '06-'08, but you're going to struggle to find any Shia in Ninewa, Anbar, or the triangle unless they're in an Iraqi Army uniform.
Why would they need sanctuary? They have the governments of those countries behind them.
Safe zones can be set up in the middle east. And if it's your position that the entirety of the Muslim world is so damn uncivilized and unlivable, then why the push to absorb so much of that world into your own society?
"And if it's your position that the entirety of the Muslim world is so damn uncivilized and unlivable."
NO.
My position is that the state of ~Saudi Arabia~ and its various puppets are unlivable. I'd have very little issue with living in, say, Indonesia.
So if it's just Saudi Arabia and it's puppets that are unlivable, then other parts of the middle east would be adequate to set up militarily enforced safe zones?
The Sunni/Shia split only started recently. They'll make up soon enough. Just give them time.
ACLU receives $24 million in donations amid immigration ban controversy
http://www.foxnews.com/politic.....versy.html
The American Civil Liberties Union received millions in donations over weekend amid the backlash over President Trump's executive order to suspend the country's refugee program and temporarily ban immigration from seven-mostly Muslim nations.
...
"America is a proud nation of immigrants, and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression. But we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border," Trump said Sunday afternoon. "This is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting. ? My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as president I will find ways to help all those who are suffering."
Had they started this under Obama they'd have MORE money!
Had they defended my gun ownership civil liberties, I might respect them.
They're also anti-school choice. Fuck them.
Don't you understand, it's a liberty to have your children indoctrinated into statism and proggyism. It's so much liberty that you can't withdraw them from it unless you can homeschool them or afford an expensive private school. It's a liberty to have to send your kids to a school that is failing to educate them and, short of molesting them, the teachers can never be fired no matter how poorly they perform. Stop, ACLU, stop! Why can't I hold all these liberties?
Yes, they tend to be very selective about what liberties they'll defend.
Only the civil ones!
I posted something about how now, when a Republican is in office, the ACLU actually cares about any Liberties instead of liberal pieties, and my liberal friends went apeshit. Then I pointed out how the Little Sisters of the Poor never got defended, nor any of the cake bakers or photographers sued by the ACLU were defended, not anyone deprived of gun rights, and I got crickets, except for one, who insisted that none of those are real rights, except to racists.
A Genetic Fix to Put the Taste Back in Tomatoes
Turn the tomato crank, people.
No, I want a GMO tomato, not this slipshod selectively rebred crap.
I, for one, and looking thrilled to finally be able to get Arctic Apples when they become available over the next few years. More GMO's please!
Euphemism much?
I thought that those tomatoes were made up of ground up grass clippings and red food dye.
While they are at it they could do something about store bought strawberries. You know the ones that are very red on the outside but unripe on the inside
Koch network could serve as potent resistance in Trump era
This oughta make a few prog heads explode.
^So much this. There will be more vomiting than after a Sugar Free story is published.
Hey, lets not get hasty now!
Because progs stubbornly refuse to learn what libertarianism actually is.
Quit using your libertarianism to tell me what to do!
I love using my libertarianism to gaslight, other, microagress, and neg.
Do you sealion too? I love sealioning.
Are you asking if I am a lesbian cougar? No on both counts. I like men, and I like 'em old & bald.
I like 'em old & bald
I'm apparently becoming more your type with each passing day.
I like men, and I like 'em old & bald.
You must have a ton of options living in DC.
No woman has a ton of options in DC, given the ratios here. Also, I don't like old bald suits. I like old bald working men. I would like to kick old bald suits in the balls.
KK is a lumbersexual. This is known.
Mike Rowe isn't bald...
He's close enough.
I would like to kick old bald suits in the balls.
[Backs away from computer, crosses legs]
do you put a price tag on that?
*combs long, wavy hair* It's my anti-KK talisman.
What about catfishing?
They just want immigrants so they can exploit them in their anti-union factories!
Anyone else get the virtue signalling email from Lyft? They probably didn't read my reply which questioned the wisdom of a company pissing-off half their potential customers.
No, I own a car.
Ooh look at Mr. Moneybags here.
My car doesn't fit in my luggage when I fly.
I'm not rich enough to own a plane.
No, but my derpbook lit up with these weird "I deleted Uber" virtue-signalling posts. Took me a while to figure out WTF was going on. They've always hated Uber surge pricing anyway. Hey, now we have a prog-free car service. Yay!
These people have the resolve of your average ham sandwich, so I'm sure they'll quickly re-install as soon as they need a ride in downtown wherever.
True.
Uncle Bernie was using it as he lambasted it on the campaign trail.
True.
Uncle Bernie was using it as he lambasted it on the campaign trail.
True.
Uncle Bernie was using it as he lambasted it on the campaign trail.
You just summoned Bernie!
So, the one that sounds suspiciously German will be the service for the alt-right, and the progs will use the one that is one letter away from Left. A little on-the-nose...
I just got the one reminding me I have a $20 credit. But I got that one a few weeks ago, too. I tried to use a Lyft to go see Duran Duran at the MGM a couple weeks ago, and the app kept saying "finalizing", then would go back to "searching for a nearby Lyft". So, fuckit. I used Uber.
wait... they're still playing?
They needed a lyft getting on stage.
No way, man. They rocked the house. It was awesome. They're way better performers than they were back in the day.
Nice.
You mean they went after the people that Uber "alienated" in Blue Cities, a far larger Lyft market than Bumfuck, Red State, which doesn't probably even have ride-share service at all?
Damn those capitalists!
Ah, yes. Lyft, the "what's that other Uber?" company.
This is war I tell ya. War! Your wives and children will get murdered unless we kill 'em all! OK who's with me??
Hello??? Anyone???
Be careful in your favorite gay bars, Weigel. Those Islamonazis that you idiotically think are your friends, you're right at the top of their list to get your head cut off.
And how would you know, DD? Did the CIA radicalize them to jihad?
Sure, it was the CIA not the Koran or Hadiths. The CIA predates the U.S. by 1100 years.
The CIA predates the U.S. by 1100 years.
"The CIA is just the latest name for the Masons." - Shriek
Yep, no moslem ever in history killed in the name of jihad until the CIA started brainwashing themin the 80s.
True Fact.
It Is Known.
You heard it from dajjal, Muslims have no agency.
Just the Central Intelligence Agency.
Does the extremity of your retardation impede your ability to score at bars?
You should be hsppy with Trump for targeting the CIA then ?
Right ?
Or are you just full of shit.
I still believe the rethuglicans will nominate Jeb and then Hillary will win. It's a cert!
OK, so the latest on this "secret" derpbook group, March for Science, which I've been invited to join. Much delicious infighting over the weekend about the dearth of "minority" viewpoints on their feed; IOW, they are paralyzed by their own perceived over-whiteness and over-maleness. While I find this particular group silly and inconsequential, it's a fascinating tutorial on how the intersectionality people worm their way into any prog cause. Because you totally cannot say anything about CAGW without an accompanying manifesto on racism, transphobia, etc.
It is going to be very interesting when these people encounter a 1A or 4A issues and try to co-opt libertarians and independents to help. You know they are going to try to be in-charge and control the message. They will then be shocked and angry when people don't want to play along with them.
The prog stack rules supreme
Intersectionality, by definition, will implode wherever applied because it is a matrix for breaking down markers of unity and generating division.
Very well-stated, UCS.
"You want to know what the end of intersectionality is? First they'll kill off all the right-wingers, and then all the other moderates. The bloodshed will not end until the last human barbarian, some transgender black left-handed female, sits on a pile of skulls and says "I won."
This is like the sickest version of Godfather II imaginable.
Except in this prog version 'Fredo wins.
*Yorikiqua fondles skull and contemplates*
Did you suggest some of them don black-face and dresses for the march? Try to be helpful.
I tweeted about them, quoting back their statement "There are certain things that we accept as facts with no alternatives."
So, not science, but religion and dogma.
And no response from them. I'm apparently not one of the "good" scientists.
Well, yeah, but your professional ineptitude has nothing to do with why they ignore you.
I have seen that. Somehow science is all about ending racism, sexism and creating equality or something.
Well, Marx thought so
So people are out protesting again. Where were they when Obama and company was drone killing civilians (collateral damage!) and killing American citizens without due process? *sigh*
Taking the Hypocritical Oath?

Ohio teen zaps cop with stun gun to fulfill bucket-list wish
NEWARK, Ohio ? Police in central Ohio have helped a teenage leukemia patient cross off a bucket-list item that was seriously shocking: She wanted to use a stun gun on someone.
Sixteen-year-old Alyssa Elkins got to do that Sunday. After a bit of training from Newark police, she zapped Sgt. Doug Bline as her supporters watched.
Bline winced and fell onto a mat, guided by spotters. He says being hit with a Taser is an unpleasant experience but it was worth it to help fulfill Alyssa's wish.
She had made her bucket list when her leukemia returned and she decided not to undergo further treatment. The Columbus Dispatch reports she added the stun-gun item half-jokingly, after seeing video of her uncle, a state trooper, being hit with a Taser during his training.
Hero.
Yeah, good for him.
Yeah, not the cop. I meant the kid.
Something something blue lives matter something something
Captain Bline now.

Changing the Guard Ceremony At Queen's Windsor Castle Axed Due To Security Fears
A Changing the Guard ceremony at Windsor Castle has been scrapped because of concerns that tourists could be a target for jihadists carrying out a truck attack.
The popular 45-minute guard ceremony at Windsor Castle, in which troops dressed in a bearskin hat and a red tunic are replaced by fresh sentries led by a regimental band, will no longer take place on Saturdays. It will continue on Mondays, Wednesdays Fridays and Sundays, but only with extra police officers on duty and more streets surrounding the castle blocked to traffic.
The decision to scale back the event is a result of the two atrocities involving trucks in mainland Europe last year ? first in Nice and then in Berlin.
Isn't diversity great!
If medieval Muslim conquerors knew just how easy modern Europe would be to subjugate, they'd burst of jealousy.
I wonder how long until an ultra right party takes control of one of these countries, builds a Kinetic Energy weapon and lifts it to space, names it Martell's Hammer, then proceeds to level the Middle East.
He's already here, but he's orange and half a world away. (no, not the Lorax)
So we cannor guard the guardsmen.
Watching ESPN at work and they asked Steve Kerr about Trump's policies.....
God, Steve Kerr is such an SJW fag....
He may or not be an idiot, but I'd hope most of us would stop using terms like "SJW fag" when we turned 14.
Okay, Mr Thought Policeman. But it fits. You sound like an SJW fag , too.....
Get some cream for your butthurt....
It's not a matter of thought policing, it's a matter of class, you cunt.
Fag
Fuck off back to /pol/ where you belong.
Conversational decorum invariably lessens the impact of whatever point one's attempting to make. Social-justice warriors richly deserve such labels as "fag" and "retard."
Word
Always good to know who still thinks its an insult to be called homosexual!
No, but as a descriptor of the characteristics historically ascribed to homosexuals as unholy, "fag" suits perfectly, and makes for a good insult.
The word fag used in certain contexts has nothing to do with sexual orientation, dipshit. Same as the word "gay". If I was a homosexual would that make it okay, Mr Thought Policeman/ troll?
So do you mean it in the Britspeak sense of "cigarette" or the venerable "bundle of sticks"?
FWIW = Steve Kerr lived in Beirut as a kid and spent his young life between Lebanon and the US. His father (president of the American University in Beirut) was assassinated by militias in the civil war there in the 1980s
He's a reliable source for any comment about "American anti-islamic attitudes". Meaning, they know what he'll say.
I like Beirut.
But I think Hank Aaron was a better ball player.
This is my favorite TDS response. Take that, unemployed actors of America!
I've got no qualms with that. Refugees are probably going to be more diligent than the unemployed actors they usually hire. Less likely to fuck up my coffee order.
Wouldn't sending them back to their country of origin be a merciful act over them having to work at Starbucks?
You're thinking drinking Starbucks.
I agree and has the added bonus of kicking a few hipsters into the street.
The silver lining is that degrees in women's studies just got more useless than they already are.
Seems illegal to me to give preferences based on national origin. I'm guessing the initiative will quietly get lawyered away so as not to distract attention from the virtue signalling.
I'm sure Starbucks has enough openings to accommodate both white hipsters and brown refugees. It's a high-turnover business.
Isn't refugee status separate from that, though? Sort, I mean there are certainly nations where no one has refugee status, but still.
Illegal based on what? It's almost certainly Constitutional even if it wasn't rooted in "national security" justifications since basically every immigration law pre-1965 had national quotas. I could see it being illegal in regards to the 1965 immigration law, but there are national security justifications that have been used by pretty much every president since that law.
My last coffee from Starbucks tasted like burned plastic. Hiring Ahmed to serve hipsters at lunch hour won't fix their shitty beverages.
As if that was the goal.
Ahmed for CEO?
I do find it fascinating that NBC4i in Columbus is used very often here as a valid news source, while we all make fun of Robby's Hobby Horses and hand waving. Is everyone here a secret Buckeyes fan? #Consipracy or #Projection It would explain a lot about libertarians.
I see the TDS has resumed.
It's going to be a very long 4 years.
Depends on how you look at it. I spent a night out drinking and smoking weed with some Russian dudes when I was in my early 20's. They were all jacked up on coke and decided I just had to go for a ride in their new Mustang. Being high on weed, I sat in the back seat and just watched as they torn down the back alleys of the city doing 60. I remember thinking, "Man, this would be dangerous if I gave a fuck."
So that's how you ended up in Japan...
It was Japan that made me start giving a fuck again. Not to get too sentimental.
Are you Bruce Willis' character in Looper?
Lol epic troll!
You can't take Trump tweets literally.
Shut up, pants-shitting fag.
You're the fag, fag.
Keep on pushing out those cosmo tears, prog fag. TRUMP WON!
stuff like this just makes me giggle.
because I know you're trying to be 'clever', and snark at the yokels.
but trump DID win, and you all are the sources of the best tears of all.
say 'prog fag' to Sugarfree again............................
OK everyone stand back and remain silent as your fellow commenter's lives are threatened. Now's exactly the right time to show your true colors.
What are you referring to, exactly?
Well, since you seemingly have multiple lives, it doesn't really seem like that big of a deal, to be honest.
Domestic Dissident|1.30.17 @ 9:26AM|#
For the record, I am not 'Weigel'. (Or shreek, or tulpa.)
How does that constitute DD "threatening" you?!?
What a disingenuous fag you are....
Good - double down or at least discredit the threat. Nice work!
Good, God, not only do you need to get back on your meds, but you need a remedial reading comprehension course as well.
Dude, DD did NOT threaten you..... an no amount of retarded spinning can change that, dipshit....
There's a difference between threatening someone's life, and telling someone that someone else is going to kill them.
Fuck you, Satan. Fuck you for making me have to defend Domestic Dissident.
Please, elaborate:
^This. And should be noted that it wasn't even telling (which implies foreknowledge and perhaps being privy to plans), but mere speculation on the actions of a third party which is consistent with the observed previous actions of that third party.
Fuck off, Tulpa.
Stop. Feeding. It.
Ignore it, you fools. Pretend it doesn't exist, it's here for attention. Stop validating it.
Are you the content editor here at the reason.com comment board?
And the sick comes off!!!
Sock*
And the other sock dropped.
There's a difference between threatening someone's life, and telling someone that someone else is going to kill them.
Fuck you, Satan. Fuck you for making me have to defend Domestic Dissident.
Wow - you guys are on your game today!
Don't make us defend Domestic Dissident. He didn't threaten you. You're both fucked up in the head. *looks for report retard button
So Trump's seven countries are Syria, Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
Which is pretty much what I expected. Trump doesn't have the balls to even consider Saudi Arabia. Nevermind the fact that this supposed act to prevent terrorist attacks ignores the people behind the biggest attack.
This is just a law (well not even a law, an executive proclamation) designed to make people feel safe, without (heaven forbid) ~OFFENDING~ the worse allies we have who are behind much of the terrorism in the world.
"A U.S. commando was killed in the first counter-terrorism raid in Yemen since 2014, and the first operation ordered by Trump."
And, yeah, that's why I didn't get my hopes up when Trump was talking about not fighting foreign wars that only benefit the Saudis. The Saudis support terrorism and promote wahhabism, and the US constantly backs and supports the Saudis. Is it any wonder that terrorism and extremism are everywhere??
That's the question people who concede 'okay fine. Obama and Trump did it. BUT why does Saudi Arabia - the biggest trouble maker of them all get a pass? WTF is going on?' are asking.
I don't think it's possible for the US government to ever concede that their allies do anything wrong, ever. It's like a law of the universe, or something. Stalin during WWII?? According to the top officials, he was a great guy!! Didn't do nothin' wrong. Saudi Arabia today?? Also a stand-up nation that never does anything wrong.
That list was put together by Obama two years ago. Once again Trump is trolling the dims.
Explains a bit, it's about the same absurdly stupid policies that I'd expect out of Obama. It's of vital importance everyone ignore the giant Saudi Elephant in the room. The one rampaging and goring people at random. Trump is Bush's fifth term.
Also Pakistan.
The really epic troll move would be to issue a statement that he's heard the dims concerns and as a result will add Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to the list.
I admit, that move would get my grudging respect.
I'd be more fine with that, to be honest. Even a stupid policy that signals a change in the "Saudi Arabia didn't do nuffin!!" policy would be a refreshing change.
Is he trolling the stock markets too?
What is the point of making policy to prevent history ?
It is the future that is in question.
Obama has not been bombing and droning Saudi Arabia for two terms.
"Obama has not been bombing and droning Saudi Arabia for two terms."
True, but the Saudi regime gave birth to the Wahhabist movement that drives much of terrorism today. Not to mention the fact they fund terrorist groups. The country that is behind the proliferation of extremism probably deserves some focus too, not just the ones driven to embrace that country's teachings by blowback.
And if blowback is a concern, I mean, Pakistan is not on the list.
A U.S. commando was killed in the first counter-terrorism raid in Yemen since 2014, and the first operation ordered by Trump.
Trump's not opposed to everything Obama did just because Obama was the one who did it. Some of the things Obama did Trump's going to continue doing because Obama did them. Trump ain't stupid - he saw how well "But, Boooosh!" worked out for ol' Barry.

Too early to know if #Quebec mosque shooting was perpetrated by right-wing extremists. If it was, then this is result of Trump rhetoric.
I see as long as you say that it is to early to know, you can run speculate any horrible thing you want to slander your political enemies. All the whole standing on the bodies of real human beings.
That is one of the dumbest things I've read in the past month, and that's saying a lot.
Well. I mean. At least there's that "If" clause there. Making it a bit more nuanced then all the other people jumping forward and assuming motive.
Nuance is not a word used to describe "Hey, so this shooting's all this politician's I hates fault."
Of course. But I mean, comparatively, in ~today's~ day an age, the inclusion of "If the motives were right-wing, THEN it's a politicians fault" make it fairly nuanced.
((I'm not saying it is nuanced for real, I'm joking that compared to how nuance-less our society has become, this is almost a welcome exception to the norm))
Witless pinko.
Was trying to link to this but I'm too stupid to figure it out. Hilarious. Will the left EVER get their wish for a mass shooting to be perpetrated by some right-wing hate monger? And I thought these things only happen in America? Didn't Obama say that other countries don't have these things happen? And isn't the strict gun control in Canada supposed to prevent these things?
They are slobbering all over themselves in anticipation that it was right wingers who did it. The longer it goes without the police saying who they arrested, the more I think it was other Muslims. If it had been crazy Quebecois Catholics, i can't believe Zoolander wouldn't be on TV right now starting a national conversation on right wing violence.
Maybe it was. Time will tell. But they are sure taking their time saying who they arrested for it.
LOL - if it was the work of Muslim fanatics that was the result of Trump rhetoric, too. If it turns out it was a pissed-off neighbor driven insane by the sound of the muezzin calling to prayer, it'll be Trump's fault. If it turns out it was a wrong-address SWAT raid gone bad - Trump's fault.
Remember when the progressive protested Obama sending Cubans back to Castro's prison island by ending the wet foot-dry foot policy?
Me either.
They're rabidly tribalistic, vicious slavers. Hypocritical nonsense is their forte.
It's not hypocritical if you don't believe it. They're not arguing in good faith, they're just using arguments of convenience. They're crybullies using whatever arguments they can to win and you're playing their game by their rules on their homefield using their refs if you attempt to argue with them. Facts and logic and reasoning and truth don't matter a damn bit if your only intent is to attack.
Well, that's different. Cuba's a paradise. Why would people want to leave a paradise like that?
Next you're going to tell me people might want to leave the Communist paradise of Venezuela.
... if only to find toilet paper.
Didn't they solve that problem by using Bolivars?
Any word on who shot up the Mosque in Quebec? I find it odd they arrested two people for a mass murder and the media seems to have no idea who they are.
I'm going with Lizard people, but could be humans.
Maybe cops in Cananananada are more circumspect than our own?
Maybe. But the media isn't. There have been other big shootings or terror attacks up there and there was no delay in saying who they had. They got the guys leaving the scene. So if there is a larger group, they know the shooters have been arrested. So not saying they have them doesn't help capture the rest of the group. It is very interesting.
Perhaps it was interdenominational Muslim violence.
That is possible. More Muslims are victims of Muslim terrorism than anyone else. Maybe the Mosque was reasonable and didn't preach hate. And the radicals decided to put an end to that. Or maybe it was Shias or Sunnis whacking the other.
It seems unlikely. But, it is possible.
It's not a new problem.
Well this thread turned rather nasty. Who to blame? Who to blame?

I'm such a fag....
Hockey is a ridiculous sport.
"We're going to strap knives to our boots, slide around on ice and use messed up sticks to hit a burnt biscuit into a fishing net."
Speaking of knives on boots. I broke another tuuk yesterday playing a pass of my skate. I swear the things are designed to fail. Third one broken in three years. Another guy on our team had screw fall out of his and his blade would slip out any time he leaned on his heel. Fun times in the beer league.
Had to google "tuuk". Wasn't sure if that was a typo or one of the 43 Eskimo words for snow.

I was just thinking about something the other day. George HW Bush was President when I started college in '91. One of my girlfriends had a roommate with a poster comparing George HW to Hitler. Not W, mind you, his dad. It said something like, "Hitler killed millions with rifles, gas chambers, etc... Bush killed millions with AIDS, just AIDS." So, hyperbole is not exactly new with the left. Every new Republican President brings about some sort of nostalgia for past Republican Presidents who were "not so bad". Just make me wonder, who's coming after Trump? Because, if I were a betting man, I'd say the reaction to the Republican's 2032 nominee will be something along the lines of, "God I miss Trump, at least he was reasonable!"
GHWB has AIDS and fucked millions of people and donated millions of pints of blood and shared needles with millions of junkies??? That man sure does get around!
If you think he's bad, just think of all the Presidents who murdered millions (billions?) of people by not personally curing cancer.
It's amazing how many of my fellow gays still blame Reagan for why AIDS is so prevalent in the gay community, as if we haven't known how to stop AIDS for 30 years. They still can't help themselves from going around having unprotected sex with 10 strangers a week. Then when they get HIV, they're like "Reagan should have done something sooner!" but I have never gotten any explanation for what that something would be.
I imagine it would be difficult to be a gay Republican...
Also, he's lived a really long time for an AIDS patient.
Got that Magic Johnson bug.
No, at this point W sucked worse. TRUMP hasn't killed a million people, but just give him time.
I know you are challenged, but it was pretty clear we were talking about H. W. Try to keep up. And it's a good idea to not validate the point someone was making in your rebuttal.
Oh snap, David Koch, no you didn't!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....s-ban.html
When did Koch become the Tea Party founder?
That was my question. I thought the tea party movement was fairly spontaneous. It's not like I was there or something...
Because, you know, like, the Kochs were paying those people and stuff. So, they're behind all conservative/libertarian movements. Because KOCHTOPUS!!!
Winona Ryder, still hot.... crazy, but hot
Days unti President had achieved a majority disapproval rating in public polling:
Reagan: 727
Bush I: 1336
Clinton: 573
Bush II: 1205
Obama: 936
Trump: 8
Can you say loser?
These the same polls that said he had less than 3% chance of being elected?
TRUMP lost the popular vote by just about the amount that public polling said he would.
And? Like I'm going to take the preferences of densely-packed coasters more seriously than I am those of voters from sparsely-populated flyover states? I could give a shit what the LA-San Francisco or Acela hiveminds want. You might as well tell me how much better Clinton did with teachers unions.
Because the coasts are just so woke? Or is it because they're out of touch with many Americans, and would like to impose their policy preferences on everyone, just like the extreme side of the GOP? Isn't it a huge surprise that the votes who elected Obama "for hope and change" switched when the candidate running from Obama's party promised more of the same not hope and not change Obama left them?
At some point you okies are going to have to recognize that effete, latte-sipping, ecstasy-taking urban city dwellers are citizens too.
Correct, they aren't a patrician class, as much as they behave that way.

Get new talking points dipshit. Gallup push polls are so last decade.
The Washington Times? The Moonie paper?
"Elitist makes vapid popular appeal, news at 11."
The mob's IQ is higher than an individual's IQ. This is known.
So what you're saying is that we could simply convene a large enough crowd and start ticking off world problems?
We should have thought of that before. Let's get all the proggies (who are obviously the smartest of us) together at a meetup in California. Then we'll wall the whole thing off, and many of our problems will be solved. Maybe promise them all some amontillado or something.
Why are we importing Italian cats when there are perfectly capable American Cats to do the job?
Oh, casks, not cats
Imagine the biblical uproar that would surely occur were a neo-crusader organization to attack a crowd with chants of "Deus vult, per virtutem fidei!"
I'm starting to think we need new Knightly Orders.
Picture modern crusaders in full religious gear erecting a massive cross upon the Black Stone in Mecca.
If things don't change, at some point, something like that is going to happen, especially in Europe. People are not going to be terrorized and not take matters into their own hands. This is aseptically true when you start talking about rapes and sexual assaults of women like what is happening in Europe. One of these days, there is going to be a high profile rape of a western woman and the perpetrators are going to end up hanged in front of some Mosque. Then it will be on. The whole thing is insane.
This. Europe is headed for a pogrom and Muslims are going to be on the wrong side of the equation when it happens.
I'm a great fan of medieval history, and one of my favorite pastimes is expounding the justness of the Crusades to pinko retards. It's delicious, because they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
It was a reaction to about 300 years of Muslim Arab conquest and colonization. They never want to hear about that. They also never want to hear about the unbelievable amount of Muslim slave raiding that went on in Southern Europe.
Try 500 years of systematic, obliterative Muslim conquest.
I'm a great fan of medieval history, and one of my favorite pastimes is expounding the idiocy and self-destruction of the Crusades to retards.
Destroy the major Christian power in the East and send it into its death spiral, what a success!
It didn't work out well. That is for sure. But that was the 4th Crusade. The 4th Crusade was one of the biggest crimes in history. it was just the Venetians looting Constantinople.

A typo by John with double meaning that should be celebrated not criticized
Or John-o, whatever
Did...did you just John-o the term John-o?
You mean we should kill at the Muslims? Some of you are nice people-- others are pretty dark and have a psychic makeup that enables them to be led by genocidal totalitarians.
The people who shot up that mosque in Canada are victims.
What, like a three hour gangrape streamed live on Facebook?
If things don't change, at some point, something like that is going to happen, especially in Europe. People are not going to be terrorized and not take matters into their own hands.
You don't know much about European history, do you? Europeans have off and on been terrorized by marauding hordes of invaders for centuries and they just shrug it off. Keep your head down and don't make waves and maybe the axe will fall on somebody else's head.
There are a few places - Great Britain, notably - where they have a history of taking matters into their own hands when they've taken all the crap they can stand, but other places have a long history of assuming their rulers rule by Divine Right and what can you do about it?
Europeans have off and on been terrorized by marauding hordes of invaders for centuries and they just shrug it off.
Examples? Because the Poles at Legnica and the Austrians at Vienna may disagree with that assessment.
I think the whole 'sit back and take it' mindset is a relatively recent phenomenon...
Take at look at the revenge exacted on German communities in Poland and Czechoslovakia after World War II and get back to me about your claim Europeans don't take matters into their own hands.
"Goddamn Crusader Kings 2 players, go back to your basements and/or Reddit!"
Hey guys the real american socialist here. As i admitted before i am not really a socialist.

From the mosque shooting link:
"The suspects in a mosque shooting that left six dead and five critically injured in Quebec City have been identified as Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed el Khadir, a court clerk has confirmed to The Associated Press."
It would appear to be a Muslim intramural thing. That is what I figured. They would have released the names sooner had they not been Muslim. I bet the Bissonnette guy is a Quebecois convert.
I knew it. Fucking Methodists.
It was obviously Scientologists. Get your e-meter adjusted, buddy.
It was the People's Front of Judea.
Well I didn't, since the Central did so poorly.
