From her award-winning Reason cover story "The War on Sex Trafficking Is the New War on Drugs" to her hardboiled quantitative reporting on modern vice squads, Elizabeth Nolan Brown is your gal for smart, readable journalism about sex policy and politics. Her work was cited throughout an amicus brief in the Backpage.com First Amendment case that later got called out favorably by Judge Richard Posner in his decision siding with Backpage. Also, sex columnist Dan Savage quotes her.

Basically, she knows her sex policy stuff. And a beat like Brown's is pretty much only possible at Reason, where we understand and love sex and commerce in equal measure.

So ask her anything over at her Twitter account using the #askalibertarian hastag. And then donate!

Read the whole exchange below.

Ask Elizabeth Nolan Brown Your Burning Questions About Sex Policy Right Now!

It's interesting you should mention burning, because sometimes when I pee...

A perfect question for a hastag!

    2. $park? is totally a Swifty   8 years ago

You may need to update your sex policy.

    3. You ARE a Prog (MJG)   8 years ago

      TOO EASY

      Now, speaking of easy...

    4. Indigent-American   8 years ago

I guess Fist isn't always first.

      1. Scarecrow & WoodChipper Repair   8 years ago

        Foreplay before Fisting.

    5. Groovus Maximus   8 years ago

It's interesting you should mention burning, because sometimes when I pee...

That you can even manage a micturation stream is amazing, considering how expanded Denial, The Angry Prostate is, blocking off your ketone and kidney stone train. The burning is simply from infection from all that tissue being torn by your renal liths.

In fact, Dr. ZG is mildly amazed your one functioning ureter hasn't rotted away and ascites and uremia hasn't done their evil work on you. Yet.

      1. SugarFree   8 years ago

"Billy, have you ever held your thumb over the end of a garden hose?"

      2. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Would that also cause a rash?

        1. Groovus Maximus   8 years ago

You betcha.... especially since you don't bathe due to your hydrophobia, thinking strict (both internal and external) H2O restriction will appease Denial, The Angry Prostate. Rashes and extreme pruritis occurs when you have a buildup of urea, no thanks to the backflow.

          Osmosis, how does it work?

      3. Suthenboy   8 years ago

What did I miss Groovus? Is Fist needing to but not returning Dr. Elmer Hartman's calls?

They're diagnosing me from afar. I don't even know if Obamacare covers that.

          1. Groovus Maximus   8 years ago

I assure you, I'm not in your network, Fist of Assurance. And to even submit the reimbursement paperwork, just for you and you overgrown, vicious, urethral bean bag named Denial, is simply not worth it.

        2. Groovus Maximus   8 years ago

Fist essentially disregarded Mow-vember, a reminder to shave off all the facial hair grown in October to remind factory original, authentic menfolk to get their prostates, T levels, and other relevant male health stats checked, especially if over the age of 45 and never having done so.

This seems like a terrible venue for this kind of discussion. Why not do this on Reddit? Twitter is a pain on the ass to follow for anything that is longer than a sentence. ENB, can you do this on Reddit. I will make a donation if you do.

  2. Hugh Akston   8 years ago

Well at least now ENB will have an answer when people ask about her biggest career regret.

    1. BakedPenguin   8 years ago

No doubt after a long stay at a 'residential rest facility' if SugarFree & Crusty Juggler show up.

    2. The Fusionist   8 years ago

      I read that article already.

      1. mad.casual   8 years ago

Is that the one where she defended a mother for murdering her 3 yr. old son or the one where she suggested that a serial rapist should be granted leniency from whatever punishment because he was mentally functional at the level of your average woodchipper?

I think the saddest part about this is, she's still towards the top of 'Reason writers to keep around' list.

        1. SugarFree   8 years ago

that a serial rapist should be granted leniency from whatever punishment because he was mentally functional at the level of your average woodchipper

I don't ever reading anything from Liz about Bill Clinton.

  3. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

If you can't read the expiration date on the condom in your wallet, but it's been in there so long it's fused with the wallet, can you just use the wallet as a prophylactic? The wallet is leather and not ribbed, if that helps your answer. #sextalibertarian

  4. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

If you're more attractive than the prostitute you hired, is it improper to suggest just going dutch on the half and half? #sextalibertarian

    1. Atanarjuat   8 years ago

      Sexy guy problems.

  5. Rasilio   8 years ago

Her opinion on sex policy, so what's her policy on anal?

    Just asking for a friend

    1. AlexInCT   8 years ago

      Giving or receiving?

  6. BakedPenguin   8 years ago

Well, might as well ask a real question - what's the legal status of polyamory throughout the states? (i.e., decrim/crim)

    1. BakedPenguin   8 years ago

Oops, didn't see it was on Twitter. My bad.

    2. Rasilio   8 years ago

Well you're in luck, as someone who has been part of the Poly community for a few decades it is generally legal but unrecognized as long as you don't try to get multiple legal marriages.

The unrecognized bit can and does occasionally cause problems if there are shared assets or kids involved. The biggest one being the threat of a call to CPS. While there is no credible evidence that any child has ever been removed from a home solely because their parents were part of a plural marriage (in the cases that are most commonly cited there were plenty of other issues in the home as well) it is absolutely a threat because there is no legal protection to prevent it. This typically leads to poly families going to elaborate lengths to prevent that scenario from ever occurring.

      1. Chipper Morning Wood   8 years ago

I think you are gonna have to tell us more about your situation. For example, how many women are you sleeping with?

        1. Rasilio   8 years ago

          My situation?

Just one for the forseeable future. With 4 kids, 2 of whom have mental health issues I have a bit too much going on in the family to be pursuing outside interests.

      2. BakedPenguin   8 years ago

Thanks, Ras. It was just curiosity. The one girl I'm seeing on/off wouldn't be into it were we ever to get married, which would be a big mistake in itself.

  7. The Fusionist   8 years ago

Does there exist a group of living human beings who are not legal persons with constitutional rights? What group is this, and what is the basis for denying them legal personhood?

    1. Bobarian (Would Chip Her)   8 years ago

They are referred to as 'suspects'.

The basis is that they are guilty, otherwise they wouldn't be suspects.

  8. Suthenboy   8 years ago

Wow. I didn't realize ENB was such a hottie. This is the first time I have actually seen her photo.

I already knew KMW was. I cant remember where I saw her photo but....it stuck.

Now, what was this article about?

    1. Bill Dalasio   8 years ago

      I already knew KMW was.

I just realized, KMW is the reason I find the girl in the Panera Bread commercial strangely attractive.

      1. commodious got a stew going   8 years ago

        There's something about mousy women.

        1. $park? is totally a Swifty   8 years ago

          Judy Greer... Ah yes.

            SAY GOODBYE TO THESE

            1. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

              Eyes up here, Michael.

          2. Suthenboy   8 years ago

Yeah Judy gets me. I dated a carbon copy of her long ago. My God, that woman could...uh...she could make your head spin.

            1. commodious got a stew going   8 years ago

              You wouldn't believe it?

          3. You ARE a Prog (MJG)   8 years ago

            Hair down, lights off.

            1. JEP   8 years ago

I think there's still some light coming in from under the door...

      2. Suthenboy   8 years ago

Goddammit. I don't know who you mean so I google and this is my first hit:

        http://cbs12.com/news/offbeat/.....nera-bread

That kinda killed it for me.

        1. BakedPenguin   8 years ago

That'd do it, although I suspect he meant her.

        2. Cdr Lytton   8 years ago

          So much for clean food.

    2. commodious got a stew going   8 years ago

I keep having this recurring dream of Emily Ekins and ENB getting into a sleepover pillow fight... what do you think it means?

      1. commodious got a stew going   8 years ago

        keep having this recurring dream

It means I'm a garbage writer for one thing.

  9. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

When doing Trump/Hillary cosplay, is trying to spice things up by innocently suggesting switching up the gender roles really cause to come home from work the next day to find your shit in boxes on the lawn? #sextalibertarian

    1. Radioactive   8 years ago

      apparently

    2. mad.casual   8 years ago

Are we talking explicit Trump *and* Hillary cosplay? Unless your initials are CJ, suggesting someone with the body of Trump play the part of Melania is a 'stuff on the doorstep' fuckup, yes. Even then, while I'm not judging, I suspect people with the initials CJ have some manner of standard.

    3. thrakkorzog   8 years ago

Depends, who is wearing the strap-on?

      1. Libertarian   8 years ago

Depends? That would be Bob Dole.

        1. thrakkorzog   8 years ago

And Viagra at the same time? NTTIAWT.

  10. Suthenboy   8 years ago

In a sane world there would be no such thing as sex policy.

  11. LynchPin1477   8 years ago

    Keep it classy, people.

    1. SugarFree   8 years ago

This is classy for us. There was one time in the comments to a story about legalizing prostitution where a commenter kept demanding to know why the female author wasn't out whoring right now if she thought it OK to be one.

      1. Suthenboy   8 years ago

        What was the answer?

        1. SugarFree   8 years ago

It wasn't a question for author made in good faith. It was more like "Why aren't you a whore right now?" "How much to fuck you?" over and over again. The author just said something reasonable like "Thinking something should be legal doesn't mean you must do it." It went way downhill after that. I think they nuked the whole thread.

          1. Suthenboy   8 years ago

I didn't really want an answer. I had already guessed it was something like that.

    2. Suthenboy   8 years ago

You have multiple sites open and mixed up which one you were commenting on, didn't you?

  12. GroundTruth   8 years ago

If I want twitter feeds posing as an article, I can go to CNN.

Sorry Reason, this format does not pass muster!

    1. mad.casual   8 years ago

Jeez, you people! Just be relieve that it wasn't titled 'Of Sex And Legal Policy' like any other normal person wouldya?

  13. Libertarian   8 years ago

"...where we understand and love sex and commerce in equal measure."

Note to Gary Johnson: THIS is how you define libertarianism.

    1. Suthenboy   8 years ago

Gary loves sex. Don't you remember that time he tried to lick the female reporter on camera?

  14. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Hey, they're asking about marriage! That's not the same things as sex.

    1. Suthenboy   8 years ago

      +1 jar of beans

    2. Rasilio   8 years ago

I thought those two were mutually incompatable

    3. GILMORE?   8 years ago

"sex and marriage, sex and marriage... go together like a Horse and...." holy shit that's perverted. And he's telling his brother about it?

  15. Nick W B   8 years ago

"And a beat like Brown's is pretty much only possible at Reason, where we understand and love sex and commerce in equal measure."
    Your poor wives (and husbands).

    1. Bobarian (Would Chip Her)   8 years ago

How else is she gonna earn her allowance? She's a shitty cook.

    2. Chipper Morning Wood   8 years ago

You will be happier in your marriage once you accept that fact.

  16. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Did I see the questions start delving into abortion? Ha! Serves #askalibertarian right. The hubris.

  17. commodious got a stew going   8 years ago

College coordinator falsely accused student of rape to cover up assaulting him.

    1. GILMORE?   8 years ago

Its been pointed out repeatedly that there's zero cost for false-accusations on campus. and zero evidence required for the process to destroy someone.

      Why *not* do it?

  18. Fist of Etiquette   8 years ago

Can you answer complex policy questions with 140 characters? Should you? Let's ask the president.

    1. GILMORE?   8 years ago

The answer to ALL complex policy questions =

      "Spend More"

      i believe i should win a prize

  19. Rebel Scum   8 years ago

    Sex Policy

Well, since pussy-grabbing is now socially acceptable...

  20. Suthenboy   8 years ago

    It is a great rifle.

Sadly it is overpriced. Most rifles are. For years now all I have hunted with is a beat up winchester 94 in 375Win. I shoot cast bullets in it. It will do anything you want done, including carry well. I paid 400 bucks for it.

  21. DEG   8 years ago

But too young for us old guys to ogle

She's an adult, so she's old enough for you to ogle.

  22. Bobarian (Would Chip Her)   8 years ago

It will do anything you want done

Turn a rabbit into a fine red mist?

  23. Bobarian (Would Chip Her)   8 years ago

Debatable, unless you've got a thing for fucked up british teeth.
