Ohio State Attack: ISIS Calls Student Perpetrator a 'Soldier of the Islamic State'
Ohio State student and Somali immigrant Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 18, was named as the now-deceased perpetrator of Monday's attack.

Update, November 30: On Tuesday, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack carried out by Ohio State University student Abdul Razak Ali Artan. The ISIS news arm called Artan, 18, a "soldier of the Islamic State" who "carried out the operation in response to calls to target citizens of international coalition countries."
In a Facebook update Artan posted before the attack, the young man—who became a legal permanent resident of the U.S. in 2014 after living in Pakistan for the previous seven years—criticized U.S. intervention in the Middle East, adding: "If you want Muslims to stop carrying out lone wolf attacks, then make peace."
As of Tuesday afternoon, the 11 victims of the attack remained hospitalized but were expected to make full recoveries.
Update, 5:40 p.m.: Officials have identified Abdul Razak Ali Artan, an 18-year-old Somali-born immigrant, as the now-deceased perpetrator in today's attack at Ohio State University (OSU), according to the Associated Press. "Those injured in the attack included an Ohio State faculty member, four graduate students and three undergrads."
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (California), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said the attack "bears all of the hallmarks of a terror attack carried out by someone who may have been self-radicalized." However, no official motivation has been identified yet for the attack.
Update, 2 p.m. - Police have confirmed that the attack at the Ohio State University this morning did not involve an "active shooter" situation as OSU initially reported but a vehicular attack followed by a knife attack. A male suspect drove a vehicle into a group of people gathered outside a campus building and then "exited the vehicle and used a butcher knife to start cutting pedestrians," according to Ohio State Police Chief Craig Stone. "Our officer was on scene in less than a minute and ended the situation in less than a minute." The officers shot and fatally wounded the attacker, whose identity is still unknown. Unconfirmed reports from local news say the vehicle was registered to a 20-year-old Somali-American student named Ali Muhammad.
12:05 p.m.: Multiple people were injured in an attack on the Ohio State University campus Monday morning, although early reports about victims with gunshot wounds turned out to be unfounded. OSU police said victim injuries include stab wounds and wounds from being struck by a vehicle. As of Monday afternoon, officials were reporting that nine victims had been taken to the hospital with injuries, including one in critical condition. In addition, the driver of the vehicle was fatally shot by police outside of OSU's Watts Hall, where he had crashed his car into a group of pedestrians before attacking them with a butcher knife.
OSU student Ben Slaton, who took the following video, reported that he heard a gunshot and looked out his classroom window to see police standing over the suspect's body.
— Ben Slaton (@_bennybeatz) November 28, 2016
Soon after the suspect was killed, two more people were cornered in a parking garage near campus and led out by police in handcuffs; it's unclear if both are suspects.
According to CBS News, the incident began Monday morning when firefighters received reports of a chlorine leak at the OSU chemical engineering building. When they arrived around 9:30 a.m., they found a vehicle had crashed into the building and people were reporting a knife attack of some sort. One witness told NBC News that the car had deliberately plowed into "a whole group of people," including a cop, who were standing outside the building after it was evacuated due to a fire alarm. (There have been no subsequent reports about a cop getting injured.)
At 9:56 a.m., OSU Emergency Management sent out an alert advising of an "Active Shooter on campus" and telling students to "Run Hide Fight."
Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College.
— OSU Emergency Mngmnt (@OSU_EMFP) November 28, 2016
Around 11:30 a.m., OSU Emergency Management reported that the campus was now secure.
Firefighters originally reported that 10 people had been hospitalized with injuries, but police later corrected the number to nine. According to Andrew Thomas, chief medical officer of the campus hospital, four of the people hospitalized were being treated for cuts or stab wounds and four for injuries from being by the car. The nature of the ninth victim's injuries were still unclear.

Trump's incitement campaign is already bearing fruit. Excellent!
Fail. You didn't mention gun control.
8========D
It's like a troll singularity.
Or an ASCII penis, that works too.
When do we get to blame the alt-right for this horrible machine gun assaults on the LBQT community ?
These euphemisms are getting pretty obscure
Quick, someone trot out Obama so we can hear another sanctimonious speech about how we can't get "common sense gun control" in America. It'll work this time, I just know it!
How did this happen with the vehicle registry laws they have in Ohio? Did the attackers use the rental car loophole?
damn private car sales.
Look, a gun obviously tricked the car and knife into attacking.
Reality has a well-known liberal bias.
Why can't you understand that this is all about guns? Stabbing people and hitting them with cars requires common sense gun control, and we need the President to give us a speech to tell us so.
Why do you have to downplay this tragedy caused by the NRA?
^
exactly
Also does this still technically count as a mass shooting? Multiple casualties, shooting fatality, white shooter? I need to pad some Bloomberg stats for the boss, thanks in advance.
I bet that car had 100+ horsepower. Nobody needs that kind of horsepower. They should only be allowed 10 horsepower and have to fill up once they have used up that horsepower. And they need a background check before they buy gasoline.
EVERY TIME you buy gasoline.
Mental health tests and background checks at the DMV, while you wait.
I think the DMV already does some of that - eg, propensity to seizures, drinking, driving history, etc.
"common sense gun control"
Thanks for that. Until your comment, gun control was left unmentioned. Thanks for showing your concern.
I'm happy that I was able to help you achieve release so quickly.
I, too, was amused that this was an "active shooter" incident with no shooter. One article made sure that everyone knew that Obama had been briefed on the incident, because the President is going to single-handedly swoop in on an "active shooter" like a superhero and stop it... somehow? That point was unclear. To be honest, the breathless media probably didn't realize that it really meant "don't go on the national stage and talk about this like you normally do because you'll look like a jackass." Presumably, he listened.
Because disarming the victims was a successful strategy, right?
"which reportedly involved both a gun and a machete"
And a car. Did they get all the white teabaggers yet?
Wait, what? One suspect dead... two in custody?

Oh boy, this one's gonna be fun.
Multiple people sounds either like a couple of Columbine-style loonies...or a bunch of terrorists.
Or die-hard Michigan fans... too soon?
Harbaugh isn't noted for stability...
We need to confirm he left with the team.
What's worse is that they left a pro-Trump note pinned to the wall.
Joking or is there a source for this?
As much source as there was for all the other Trump-incited attacks.
Take a guess.
It's microaggressions all the way down.
"Just because you don't want something to be true, down't mean it can't be true."
Will any idiot here argue it's not a reasonable possibility?
YAaP-
If you include false flag ops, it is a definite possibility.
They might have. I doubt they are pro Trump people but who knows. It is not impossible.
I think you're going to get a lot of mileage out of that quote.
I am sure they will. Among anyone who understands logic and reasoning, they won't get the mileage they think. Crusty is a nice guy but he is really not that bright. That quote is absolutely true. And it was made because he and a lot of other dimwits were begging the question.
They all think it is so clever to say "we don't know a unicorn... either". The problem is a unicorn doing anything is something that has never happened and we can reasonably assume is impossible. They apply that analogy to things like voter fraud, which we know is both possible and has happened in the past. Basically they are assuming that massive voter fraud is like a unicorn, meaning that it is impossible or incredibly unlikely. Well of course is the whole question, just how likely is voter fraud. They don't know. But they do know they don't want it to be true and they can't really make any argument why it isn't. So they just beg the question and assume it is impossible and say anyone who says it reasonably could have happened is believing in unicorns.
I don't a whole lot of patience for people who can't understand basic reasoning and deductive logic. They quickly get very tiresome as they beg the question and talk past you.
Yes. Just like Podesta could be a pedophile, and Hill and Jill should question the electoral college recount.
Just as every non-progressive is a racist, every progressive is a child raping pedophile. Every one. You can tell by the way they disagree with you.
Are you sure you read the quote right? Or Crusty's motivation?
John rages first; asks questions later if there's time
As long as there are no big ladies around looking for pleasure.
Ready, fire, aim!
It's a legit Deep Thought.
Minor point but Watts hall is Material Science and Engineering, not Chemical. Not that journalism students ever learn the difference.
And they are probably even less likely to learn the function of every building on all local college campuses.
CU has a building called wolf law. I think of charlie if always sunny and his bird law specialty.
"They both have those Breaking Bad posters, right? The ones with all the letters?"
I'm going to shoot you for that. Four or five brain cells ran away when I read that.
Michigan fans.
Jim Harbaugh?
I just KNEW someone would drop that one.
Come on people, that's not how you jump to conclusions. Let's start speculating wildly.
I say it's NOI people fighting against the Tricknology being worked out in those labs.
Some people are saying there wasn't a gun and the shooting was from the cops. No confirmation on that yet, though.
Everyone at HuffPo says it was a concealed carry holder and that it's Trump's fault.
Well, it would have to be. How else could someone possibly conceal a gun and bring it onto campus, but with a magic piece of paper?
The sick thing is that a lot of them really seem to want mass shooting, if only it'll help get rid of guns.
Sometimes you have to make omelets.
i think it was bill hicks as alex jones pulling a false flag op, making it look like canada is attacking, they want all yhe great lakes so they can hoard water for evil teating.
testing.
"so they can hoard water for evil teating."
That version is definitely the superior one.
The crow flies at dawn.
Does the "fight" twit mean that you can respond in kind to your attacker? Is that allowed on campus?
Fight is last resort and doesn't include guns or any sharp objects, or blunt objects. So basically fight means yelling "stop shooting you Trumpets, I didn't vote for Hillary!".'
*cocks gun*
"A vote for GayJay is a vote for Hilary!"
*blam blam*
TOO SOON.
FoE-
They mean throw a chair or something, not respond with an actual weapon.
I thought it meant "de-escalate" with carefully chosen words.
I have had to watch government videos on this a number of times. They stress a passive response, the acceptability of abandoning everyone else to save yourself (but nothing about how you're supposed to sleep at night afterward), and knowing the exits foremost, with a smidge of identifying potential improvised weapons in your area. The possibility or utility of carrying real weapons very pointedly does not come up.
Most campuses that I know of say something like 'give them all your stuff before they kill you'. Seriously, that's not much of an exaggeration.
"pointedly"
That's triggering! ... Oh, God, "triggering" is t-t-triggering!
It's the order of actions you should take:
Your first response should be to run away.
If you can't run, you should try to hide.
Only if you can't run or hide should you try to fight.
I think this is the standard these days.
It means you trick him into going into a "safe space". The crayons, coloring books, Play-doh, and security blankets will then work their magic on him, causing him to drop his weapons and curl up in the fetal position.
This actually made me proud (I'm in Columbus, wife works for OSU) that they included that word.
Yeah, credit where due. Finally got around to realizing that rolling over ends badly under some circumstances.
After the VA Tech incident, there has been a push by people to give advice that might keep people from getting shot by an attacker with time and purpose. The ideal two-fold response is to have armed responders seek to engage rather than contain, and they have settled on the Run, Hide, Fight advice to persons who are not trained to respond, but may be in the path. I think its probably the best that can be done. Other than developing a strong culture of individuals carrying arms inconspicuously and training to use them to intervene in such situations.
Other than developing a strong culture of individuals carrying arms inconspicuously and training to use them to intervene in such situations.
You mean like doing away with the "gun-free campus" provisions that keep 14,500,000 licensees from carrying at a college?
So "knife attack" --> "active shooter."
Well, the cops were there.
The knife fight could have lead to shooting, which is why you never bring a knife to a gun fight.
Unless you're a Wop.
+1 Untouchable
Nice handle.
Ok, posters on HuffPo are now saying there was no gun, all the injuries are from a knife or car. But it's still because guns. You really cannot make this shit up. Also 100% speculation it's a white male 18-24 years old and Trump supporter.
H-
I appreciate you doing the heavy lifting involved in wading through that drek. I certainly couldn't do it.
One person is now saying 'why don't they just give all the students a bazooka!'. At the same time, all confirmed injuries from knife or car, none from bazooka. The leftists are unhinged, first Hillary loses and now no guns involved in attack. Next we'll learn attackers were not white or Trump supporters. Salty delicious prog tears continue to rain down.
And they're still suffering from the death of Comrade Fidel! At this rate they won't put down the Play-doh and come out of the safe space for six months.
I need moar tear barrels!
Exams are cancelled and everyone gets an A.
The psychology of gun culture drove them to violence. Luckily, Ohio's common sense gun laws stopped this from being 9/11 x 1000.
Holy shit that's 818.1818181818182
Or a disgruntled PhD student from India? http://www.latimes.com/local/l.....story.html
Those could definitely be disgruntled PhD students.
Yes, because the evidence from recent events is that when somebody just starts using machetes and knives to attack people in a public place, it's usually young, white Trump supporters who are to blame...
Universities are a hotbed of Trump activism, after all.
With all the invites to Milo and Shapiro, its obvious what kind of outcome would happen.
Don't worry, if it turns out the people who did this are Muslims, they will stop saying anything. It will be just one of those things. A local story no one cares about.
Peaceful Muslims incited to violence by Trump, of course.
(Not joking for once) A friend of mine who is a materials scientist and works in Watts and 'saw some stuff' (got out fine thankfully) said that it was a black guy who got out of the car.
So I'm expecting the HuffPo crowd will be disappointed (stormfront may be please though).
I take it that there werent any available safe spaces.
Sounds like the safe space had a chlorine gas leak. Still safer than being somewhere with Trump posters everywhere.
They have a 2 hour limit unless you have a faculty sticker on your bumper.
They have a 2 hour limit unless you have a faculty sticker on your bumper.
Identity of shooters not revealed yet. That's a pretty big clue right there. Next thing we'll hear they're Hispanic. Then we'll learn the truth.
See, now that's more like it.
Take that political correctness!
Finally a good comment from FluffPo:
Dan Jaherra
The attacker mass-stabbed 8 people with a large kitchen knife. No word if anti-knife advocates will be blaming the NKA (National Knife Association) for the attack. Obama may push for stronger knife regulation. Mysteriously, the attacker was stopped when he was shot---with guns.
Welp, i guess we all know of at least one person who's been banned from HuffPo now.
That would be funny except that's basically what happened in the UK.
"No one needs a steak knife"
The moral of the story is, once again, the attacker was stopped by someone with a gun. Too bad no one on the scene before the cops arrived had a gun so they could have stopped him sooner. Everyone should have a right to defend themselves and according to our Constitution they do. In Baltimore City, I kid you not, you cannot ever carry a stun gun, let alone an actual gun.
Uh, isn't it "The Ohio State attack"?
*slow clap*
Day-um.
VERY GOOD!
*enthusiastic applause*
Well done.
Am I to understand that the active shooter was a cop?
Yes, that's correct.
Prediction, if this was an Islamic terror attack, the left will start defending them and it will be Trump's fault. It's ok when Muslims attack and kill people if someone said mean stuff about them or their beloved camel merchant. You heard it right here first.
Normally I'd call that too cynical, but after seeing the Castro Hagiographies...
Was it Peppers and Harbaugh?
Columbus, right? Where were you 2 hours ago?
10 miles from campus at work.
Bo's ghost?
Rick Leach?
Elements of the Fab 5?
Lloyd Carr?
The ghost of Jim "17-0" Mandich?
Brian Griese?
Nevertheless, it could not have been Tom Brady.
And how much you wanna bet these guys are (1) newly married with child, (2) patsies for the private security industry and (3) radicalized by the FBI.
If by that you mean BLM activists, shreek, then maybe. Did you forget to give Jill Stein credit for your dumb post?
Just ignore it, Hyper.
Have you talked to your doctor about Thorazine?
Yes - but he said you should first decide if I'm a drug addict or paranoid schizophrenic or narcissist or ocd or autistic. Turns out - these things help inform the treatment recommendation.
Who rates higher on the Hihn crazy scale: AddictionMyth, et al., or Hyperion scouring HuffPo and reporting back to us?
You'd better shutup or I'm going to DU!
AddictionMyth/dajjal's crazy isn't quite as concentrated as Hihn's, but there's a lot more of it, since Hihn only gets a few hours of free AOL dialup a month.
I larfed. A lot.
+1
It's hard to tell, since all i have to work with is you typing a bunch of dumb, crazy shit into a website under at least two aliases. I'm fine with any diagnoses that would result in you not doing that anymore.
I'm still reading conflicting reports on the number of attackers and whether or not one had a gun.
In the effort to push gun control, it looks like they really jumped the shark on this "Active Shooter" and "Campus Lockdown" bullshit.
I wonder if there's going to be any self reflection in the media.
*checks earpiece*
No, no there won't be.
Newest thing I've heard, and this was from a poster who claims to have talked to a witness, the knife attacker was black. That would make sense since the media have yet to say the attacker was white. BLM? Muslim? Or Trump supporter? We'll see.
Black Trump supporter full of self-loathing.
I think "crazy person pissed off about something else" is also a pretty likely possibility. Or someone with a particular reason to attack the campus or that lab.
I think "crazy person pissed off about something else" is also a pretty likely possibility.
I'm pretty sure our emotions are only allowed to be driven by macro-political events now. Current options are Trump or Terrorism. That's it.
My guess is the vending machine in that building took his last three quarters without giving him his chips ahoy.
The warnings said 'active shooter' pretty early. Not sure if they meant to say 'active stabber' or if there were multiple suspects (some sources say there were as many as 3; one supposedly tried hiding in a parking garage or something). Pretty hazy at this point.
All of the shooting at Sandy Hill was done with semi-auto pistols. There was a rifle and a shotgun left in the car but he figured it would be easier to get pistols past the door so he stuffed those in his pants and went in. Initially some journalist saw a cop taking the AR-15 out of the car and reported that the rifle was used i n the shooting and later the shotgun. They had to issued a retraction, yet today it is gospel truth that the AR-15 was used.
You cant believe a goddamned thing hoplophobes say. Not a word of it.
You mean Sandy Hook, right?
Sandy Knoll. There were two shooters! Back and to the left.
Yeah, I hadn't actually heard that. Not that it matters much to the story. At close range a pistol is likely more effective.
The obsession with "assault weapons" is particularly odd. If they were going to go after some class of weapons, smi-auto handguns would make more sense. But I guess they've tried that and found it even less of a winner than going after assault weapons.
Without getting into the gruesome details, I assure you that the kids at Sandy Hook were killed with .223.
I guess maybe there is something to this "fake news" thing.
Which of course we already knew. Everyone latches onto the bullshit they want to believe sometimes.
i was thrown the 78 cents stat this morning.
http://www.ct.gov/csao/lib/csa.....Report.pdf
The above link is to the final report by the Connecticut authorities on the Sandy Hook massacre. It mentions that a Bushmaster rifle was found near the shooter. A Saiga-12 shotgun was found in his vehicle.
The report does not go into detail about which firearm killed the children, but my understanding is that they suffered rifle wounds. Rifle wounds are qualitatively different from the wounds inflicted by even the 10mm Glock handgun the shooter used to end his own life.
Read the report. I have no trouble believing he used an AR and a shit load of mags to kill those kids.
As to this OSU incident, my understanding is that Durka-Durka drove into some people, left the car with a kitchen knife or machete, and started stabbing. Fortunately, a cop was nearby, and within 120 seconds of shithead starting his rampage, an OSU police officer killed him. Thankfully.
Considering he stuck and or ran over 11 people, in no more than two minutes, it is a very good thing that officer was so close by.
Why the fuck are we importing MENA peasants again?
I will read this report, but I can tell you now that I think the evidence shows no rifle used.
And given this is:
A) A report by a government agency which is trying to ban "assault weapons" like the AR15
and
B) A report about a mass shooting, which according to you, doesn't state the type of weapon(s) used, a fact that one would assume should be available in any report on a mass shooting.
Then I think one can logically conclude the AR 15 likely killed no one, because if so, it would've been in the first sentence of the report.
I will still read it anyway, but given what's known, you're probably wrong on your assumption.

Regarding the media: Time to start asking them questions, not the other way around. Say you're approached by a random reporter for a person-on-the-street interview.
You: Sure, I'll answer your question if you answer my question about your paper/network/etc misreporting...
Tape their answers and post to YouTube. Seriously.
Ask the ToughQuestions and upload the results to YouTube? Where have i heard that before?
Not here, surely!
Don't call me Shirley.
"Active Shooter" may have been used simply because it was the only designation they had.
My campus is now using the phrase "Active Killer" should this kind of situation happen.
Unless someone else has died since I last checked in, I don't think that would have been accurate in this situation either. And since shooting did happen before people knew what was going on, it's probably accurate enough.
I do find it a bit grating when "cop talk" like that starts to creep into the language, though.
Exactly. "Active shooter" is cop speak, and originally meant a shooter on a rampage who needed to be stopped immediately. Normal protocol would call for surrounding and containing a suspect, whereas the "active" designation means the suspect must be engaged immediately.
Somehow, any gun crime on campus has become an "active shooter" situation.
"lockdown" is another one that no civilian not in prison should ever have to hear.
Cant' use Active Crazy, that wouldn't be PC.
Why isn't Tony here whining about common sense car and knife control?
The "Beacons of Gondor" communication system takes a bit longer to relay news than he was expecting at his bungalow in NZ.
This is Tony we're talking about, so by "bungalow in NZ" you obviously mean "his mom's basement." "Beacons of Gondor" is fine as a euphemism for Tumblr.
"Beacons of Gondor"
Sounds like a Reddit site, ne?
(For those not in in the joke.)
Two (LARPing fat guys dressed disturbingly as) Hobbits have been dispatched to Tony's Mom's Basement in order to get to the bottom of this.
He was still commenting on Hit'n'Run a few days later, so he must not've made it out before El Trump closed the borders and rounded up all the non-deplorables. Sad!
It's kind of surreal to see the building where I attended classes in these reports of a shooter on campus.
BTW, the Fox News web-feed has ATF agents responding; I guess the guy was smoking a cigarette or drinking a beer.
Hey, its near Christmas and ATF agents need a reason to pad those expense accounts.
Oh, shit, guys! The attacker was a libertarian!
Makes me think the car crash was accidental, not deliberate.
Some people don't like to give up their insurance information easily.
You know, on account of the dude being unaccustomed to roads.
Threadwinner.
But... but that's what I was hinting at... 🙁
Too subtle for my one-dimensional brain.
he was already on the sidewalk. no roadz allowed.
What you did there...
Somali Hackers! Heh.
*slow clap*
The suspect's name was not released, but law enforcement officials told NBC News he was an 18-year-old Ohio State student, a Somali refugee who was a legal permanent resident of the United States. --> 1 Suspect Dead, 10 in Hospital After Ohio State Car-and-Knife Attack
Probably not a grad student cracking under pressure.
Quick, someone get Trump's phone before he Tweets!
Hair: Oh, now what?!
Hat: Ha! Wait, I got a good one...
We have to import 5 million more of them, it's the only solution!
/Hillary
Prolly was fine until the SJWs gotta hold of him and convinced him that he should be outraged by Trump and all white people.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised.
Especially since his main complaint was a lack of spaces to pray on OSU's campus. Yes, those spaces might not be in every building, but I sincerely doubt that OSU doesn't have quite a few of them available in different areas of the campus.
This is why we need "common sense" car and knife control. /sarc
As of 10 minutes ago, the rotating feeds on Bing had one or two still mentioning 'shooters'.
What about common sense Somali refugee control?
The BBC... the news source whose suggestion algorithms also drip with sanctimony.
The last one I saw matched an article about "Why Americans love their guns." You can't make this shit up.
"Why Americans love their guns."
1) We don't have to pay for BBC to lie to us
"Why Americans love their guns."
Why do people think that's such a complicated question? Guns are awesome, beautiful pieces of engineering that are also the most effective means of putting holes in distant things available (which has much practical and recreational utility). What's not to love?
You probably don't want the British take on that subject.
Having seen some of the cars they built, and their take on dentistry, I can understand how they wouldn't trust guns. I wouldn't either.
Unless they live out in the country. Hot Fuzz was exaggerating but rural people (commoners and toffs alike) still love their shotguns.
update: "the attack at the Ohio State University (OSU) this morning did not involve an 'active shooter' situation"
see, gun-free zones work
MSNBC are still broadcasting live that there is an 'active shooter situation'. They don't even try to hide their lies anymore.
ohhh huffpo comments are gold. didn't venture to DU or slate.
Nothing on DU, it doesn't fit the narrative. Instead, this:
Afraid of meeting a Trump supporter
this strengthens that 'projection over gun control' argumemt
I love that they're calling it the Event.
Martial arts training is code for "never been in a fight before".
Yeah, I was laughing about that.
That's nice. A violent thug that loses his temper anytime he is outside of his bubble. Oh, and he sends vibes to his brethren in evil red states (wtf?). I just cant understand why these people cant win over a majority.
I'm glad the only one dead is a bad guy. Good on the OSU or whomever's police staff for showing up and dropping the guy.
We have a very large Somali population on the west side of Columbus. 2nd in country only to Minneapolis I believe.
Yeah it's pretty unfortunate. I lived very near one of their colonies.
I live in a Somalified hood in downtown MPLX.
Nice people with some Americanized chycks with bangin' bods.
The Salamy womenfolk around Columbus and Delaware, OH, wear clothing that is one step down from a burka, one step up from a hijab. Their families grossly overburden local social workers and law firms (that do pro bono) owing to their apparent inability to recognize that it's not 500 BC.
forgive me, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. 500 BC 640AD
It doesn't matter, their practices are modern, not historical. They practice barbarity in the name of tradition, but they have no claim to the traditional mantle except that which they have given themselves. Islam in 640 would look utterly foreign to a fundamentalist Muslim in the 21st century and probably be decried as blasphemous.
Perhaps you've not read so much about the happenings in Muslim lands back in the day. Yes the modern Muslims represent an anachronism and yes they're still "better" than their ancestors on the issues of child rape, slavery and more, just like almost all societies are today. Everyone was barbaric back then, and just like now, some were more barbaric than others.
For reference, Muslims back then castrated their African male slaves, and killed the babies of their African bed slaves by dashing their skulls against walls and rocks. I'll concede that they're better on that stuff now than they were then. And also now, like then, they are worse than almost everyone else barring sub-Saharan Africa on those issues.
The main difference Muslims now and Muslims then, is that Muslims now have the benefit of cheap and available western technology to make their murdering and spreading of tyranny more productive and efficient.
I'm not saying Muslims from one time period or the other are better or worse; I'm saying that modern Muslims, even fundamentalist/reactionary/barbaric ones, are modern Muslims. They claim to represent something traditional, but the lineage between then and now has been broken many times, and I don't just mean in a literal sense.
So do you mean to say that the Muslims of yore didn't generally adhere to a bloodthirsty, totalitarian and conquest driven "version" of Islam?
So do you mean to say that the Muslims of yore didn't generally adhere to a bloodthirsty, totalitarian and conquest driven "version" of Islam?
Well, the Muslims of yore were actually capable of conquering and building empires. The modern ones could be cleaned up by the French military, never mind the American one.
So their main difference is a technological gap? I'll certainly agree that Islam is one of the least suitable ideologies for the accumulation of capital to occur for societies submerged in it. But they were never good at that, contrary to the mythological golden age that every fallen society claims but very few have a genuine claim to.
So their main difference is a technological gap?
No.
Their "main difference" is that they're not the same fucking people. They're seventy or more generations removed from anyone who knew Mohammed when was alive. They've been ruled by a dozen empires. Their present-day factions and beliefs are the product of 1400 years of accumulated political conflicts and doctrinal changes.
If they are barbaric, it's because they want to be fucking barbarians. The appeal to religion or tradition is just an excuse.
Jesus Christ tone it down a notch. It's not like I'm claiming a cultural inheritance based on DNA lineage, they share with those ancestors a religious, social and political philosophy, if you could call it that. Modern Muslims certainly view themselves as being in possession of a certain heritage and early Muslims intended to pass on those values to their successive generations.
None of that is up for debate.
Oh okay. So Zoroastrians are just as Islamic as modern Muslims are?
Yeah yeah religion of peace, I get it. Historical culture, religion and ideology have nothing to do with how certain groups of people tend to run their governments, interact with their societies or conduct their individual lives.
Yeah yeah religion of peace, I get it.
WTF? No, you don't.
I give up.
Then again, it would be kind of funny to see the Muslims of 640 fight the Muslims of today, the technology difference notwithstanding. Mohammad might just write off all his own followers because they decided to kill each other over whether or not some imams were "legitimate" after his death.
Keep it simple: it's Sunni vs Shiite. Then and now.
Keep it simple: it's Sunni vs Shiite. Then and now.
Hardly. It took hundreds of years for the many different political/religious groups to solidify into anything resembling their modern forms.
Mohammed was no different than tyrants today. They find divisions in the populations they rule quite useful and actively foment division. That is what identity politics is all about.
Why Are There Jihadists In Minnesota?
I read that awhile ago - it's a good article.
Because they imported a sizable population of uncivilized people?
No it makes perfect sense that a "natural movement of people" is epitomized by culturally alien, low skill, high language barrier population moving en masse year after year to an advanced first world economy with a high cost of living and a rapidly decreasing demand for exactly their kind of labor.
Do you even freedom of movement, brah?
He probably overheated due to seeing a Miss Minnesoda contestant in a burkini in the swimwear competition.
Such harlotry cannot stand!
Why do they (including ENB here) call the assailant a suspect when there is no doubt (that I'm aware of) that the dead perpetrator is the one who carried out the attacks?
'Suspect' means a person who we think may have committed the crime, but we're still gathering evidence. I'm well aware of 'innocent until proven guilty in a court of law' but that's talking about criminal responsibility - not whether the person did it or not.
The police shot dead a knife wielding Somali immigrant who had attacked and injured eight students. He's an attacker, an assailant, a perpetrator - whatever the thesaurus kicks out - but he is not a suspect. He did it.
Legal reasons. Don't open yourself up to lawsuits if you don't have to.
When the "suspect" is killed and there's no trial or conviction, do they continue to call him a suspect and repeat "allegedly" when describing his actions?
Ahem. He was *allegedly* killed.
Let's ask Jackie about that.
I don't expect there to be a trial for a dead guy, but I would like reporters to at least wait until the investigation has completed before making definitive statements about events that they aren't eye-witnesses to.
That having been said, they rush to judgment in so many other ways, that using the word "suspects" is out of place.
U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (California), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said the attack "bears all of the hallmarks of a terror attack carried out by someone who may have been self-radicalized."
Well, I for one believe Adam's an expert on self-radicalization.
Funny that "self-radicalization" only seems to happen to members of one particular religion....
And that's exactly why shreek has to hide from the Christian Tealiban in Dogdick and can't even come out of his basement. I hope you're happy!
It's the Amish, right? It's the Amish.
Well, I suppose it could be said of someone who really, really gets into a religion on one's own initiative, be he Pentecostal, Druze, methodist, or whatever, he has "self-radicalized". The outcomes for the non-Muslim self-radicalizations are usually different, though.
In other news:
Stein misses PA deadline for recount
Game over, folks.
Oops!
She keeps the money though, right?
God, I so want her to hold a press conference which consists of
"Welp, see ya!"
*puts on sunglasses, drives off in new Porsche*
Good. Fuck off and die, bitch.
OT: The Democrats' real strategy in launching recounts
The recounts, if done by hand, which can be demanded, may take longer than the last day for completing the official counts in a state and directing Electoral College voters. If all 3 states miss the deadline, Trump is at 260, Hillary at 232. No one hits 270.
Right, 46 electors are just going to sit out the election because the recounts are still pending. Yeah, that's definitely going to happen.
Also, SCOTUS is not fond of excessive recounts.
Wisconsin has already rejected statewide hand recounts. This is a total folly. Lost of fools parted with their money. Fox are putting the odds of a recount win for Clinton in WI at .0002%. And even if she did, it won't change the election.
Of course, Stein already knew all of this, but she's collected about 7 million dollars and no one is getting a refund.
oops. here. she made a boatload this year. i wonder if she is driving up to bernies new lake house.
Hitting 270 is not required for a win. It's the majority of the electors appointed.
this.
Man, the Left just can't catch a break lately... First, Hillary loses. Then Castro dies. And now there's a violent attack, but there's no pile of bullet-riddled bodies for them to stand on!
And no recount in PA. Man the tear barrels, I need all orphans on deck!
Also, Brexit. And if all goes to expectations (IF), hardcore nationalist wins runoff for President of Austria, and Italian PM loses a referendum that's become Yay/Nay on EU.
This from the DailyMail coverage, a quote from the attacker:
'This place is huge, and I don't even know where to pray. I wanted to pray in the open, but I was kind of scared with everything going on in the media.
'I'm a Muslim, it's not what the media portrays me to be. If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don't know what they're going to think, what's going to happen,' Artan said.
So then the asshole goes on act in precisely the way he complains about people perceiving Muslims.
Judging by his skill in changing images and minds, he must surely be a Democrat.
An Islamic terrorist *weilding a knife!*
SPEW!!! OH YEAH! That is like a Reason commentariat money shot.
projection, not just for movie theaters
I don't know if you're familiar with recent knife attacks, but they're the hot thing among jihadis these days.
I do know you're a jackass.
I remember after the nightclub attack in Orlando you miserable lying sacks of shit tried to portray that as non-terror related...after the guy called the cops and announced it was a terror attack and then started shooting. He was just a self-hating gay if I remember y'alls bullshit correctly.
Islamic terrorists weilding knives is quite common.
Keep denying reality and losing elections AmSoc. Y'all do it so well.
Fuck off, asswipe.
I can't wait for the unhinged left to start blaming Trump for the knife and car attack. It's going to happen, I mean there's no way it doesn't happen. They'll start saying that we have to limit free speech, here it comes in 3...2...1...
It doesn't matter what they think. The country rejected them. And they still don't know that what they think doesn't matter anymore.
I'm hoping the left never come to terms with their powerlessness.
They should just keep ordering people around--like a woman in a mental institution that thinks she's Queen Elizabeth.
Yeah, but they're going to wage a revolution if they don't get their way. I'm going to assume that means a civil conflict with the other half of the country. I'm just curious about one thing. How are they going to win what would basically devolve into widespread gorilla warfare with anyone when they are so predictable, that anyone, I'm not talking about a master strategist, I'm talking about anyone with a few brain cells, can know exactly what they will do next before they do it?
Lawfare.
If you control the courts, you can get them to do shitty stuff to the assholes you hate. If you control regulatory agencies, likewise. Trump can appoint whomever he wants at the top, real work happens at lower levels in any bureaucracy.
How are they going to do it without guns?
Yeah, but they're going to wage a revolution if they don't get their way. I'm going to assume that means a civil conflict with the other half of the country.
I wouldn't worry about that. The majority of the military leans right, and it's not like millennial snowflakes are guerrilla fighter material anyway. A revolution has to be at least moderately popular and have no good alternatives to succeed.
Castro's communist insurrection was only popular in cosmopolitan circles in the United States, it was decidedly not popular in Cuba. Much the same can be said of the Bolsheviks with their "revolution". In fact, I'd say some of the most successful revolutions were total failures in terms of winning popular support, but they were completely successful in masking failures and instead projecting an image of success through artful propaganda.
Its easy to tell. Revolution, then death camps: not extremely popular. Revolution, then everyone's life gets better. Popular.
Yeah, I think it only takes a fairly small amount of the population to stage an effective armed revolution. Still though, I don't think we have much to fear from generation safe space.
"Moderately popular" as in they have an actual effective base of support in which they're capable of actually start overthrowing local governments. The Bolsheviks utilized worker and peasant revolts to form a base of support, Castro used the poor as early revolutionary fighters and later sympathetic members of the Cuba army.
What do the progressives have? Local governments already in their control that could rebel, but they would be violently put down. The military? Doesn't sympathize with them. The poor? I don't think they could convince them of a grand revolution. All they've got is angry diehards who are perfectly capable of causing a riot or two...until the crackdown hits.
I'm afraid not. Their actual base of support was pitifully small. Castro and the Bolsheviks won because they very successfully projected an image of themselves winning. From there enough institutions just fell into line that they began to wield actual power. That's when the actual shooting parts of those insurrections began.
I haven't claimed for a second that the progressives have any kind of potential for armed overthrow. They lack the wherewithal in about every respect. They could not do, in the United States, what the Bolsheviks did in Russia. A lot of things would need to change before that's even remotely in the cards.
I'm just saying, "moderately popular support" is not a required ingredient for a revolution to be successful. Often moderate levels of popular support is what you get by having demonstrated to everyone how you just took down the government by conquering the country's institutions.
I'm afraid not. Their actual base of support was pitifully small. Castro and the Bolsheviks won because they very successfully projected an image of themselves winning.
Again, you don't seem to get what I mean by 'moderate amount of support'. Yep, those Bolsheviks, never had a 'moderate amount of support' to back up their expansion of power.
devolve into widespread gorilla warfare
Dicks Glocks out for Harambe.
Hey look at the first post on this article, it's already happening! Thanks, shreek!
I know there wasn't a guy used in this attack, but I still think we should ban them just to be safe.
Also, we should make the Redskins change their name and avoid Mel Gibson movies--because important things like that is what being a progressive is all about.
You want to ban guys? I never figured you for a feminazi Ken.
guns. ban guns.
I think he meant we should ban all assault cars and assault kitchen knives. And guns.
Guy was already dealt with as a result of his attempt to blow up Parliament. What more do you want, dig him up and hang him again?
The left are totally for banning guys, but only white guys. /pendantic
*pedantic
Lol, now that is funny!
*applause*
Somali? So the left is going to claim he's a libertarian...
+1
If you're on a murder spree?you didn't do that. Somebody else made that happen. Roads didn't get paved on their own. Government created roads so that all the mass-murderers could drive cars into crowds of students.
Ban Bears.

Not if the ban goes through.
My safety comes before Jessie's pleasure.
I'm sure the Kenyan, Obama will attend the dead muslim's funeral to praise him as soon as he gets back from Castro's funeral and praising him.
This is why they get paid the big bucks.
OT and late, but some dame named Rachel Lauden wrote a piece about the surprisingly philosophical origins of Thanksgiving and its cost over time.
Ah, a starry-eyed immigrant, God bless her.
Thanksgiving is about giving God credit for the bounty provided by capitalism. After socialism killed 85%+ of the colony one fateful winter, the survivors decided that maybe people should get their own plot of land and people should get to keep what they produce, next thing you know people weren't eating their dead family members. People at the time seemed to have just thanked God for helping them and so started the tradition of annual harvest feast to thank him. While people today are taught that the colonists were thankful to neolithic tribesmen that taught the Northern Europeans how to farm and survive winter and do communism more betterer.
Notwithstanding current or past popular notions about what we're supposed to be thankful for on that holiday, the correct answer is "property rights".
Quibble: started the tradition of annual harvest feast
I'm pretty sure the "tradition of annual harvest feast" started about the time agriculture got popular. Which is about the time that property rights were invented. IOW people started owning more stuff than they could carry wherever the herds wandered, and started writing stuff down now that they could store records.
I am not sure how to react to the verb "Twigged"
The same way you should react to the rest of the article.
Twig? It's pretty innocuous. Not one of them newfangled neologisms by any means.
OT: NSFW: Orgasm Wars: Japanese game show where a gay man tries to make a straight male porn star cum through oral sex.
huh.
Weird! I'd just read an article this morning bemoaning the fact that Japanese TV is unfairly stereotyped as strange and eccentric despite the fact that those bizarre shows are now considered passe. The author singled out Orgasm Wars as an example of late-night fare that nobody thinks is mainstream.
"Unfairly" stereotyped? A couple days of watching Japanese TV convinced me.
I'm interested in the version of that show where an attractive lesbian tries to get me off.
It's Japan so they could pretty much just have one of their native hotties lick a lollipop and I would be done.
hold on now... a *Japanese* straight male porn star?
I thought they were restricted to stuff like... diaper fetishes, and being smothered by fat people. You know, *regular* Japanese game-show type stuff. No one needs straight Japanese men for ... like, 'regular sex'. Do they even do that anymore? I thought it was all dressing up like a furry and getting peed-on through a hole in the wall while fapping to anime.
Or as Crusty likes to call it, a regular Saturday. Zing!

"I'm a Muslim, it's not what the media portray me to be." He must mean "peaceful"
Harsh!
Legal resident and can't be bothered to even buy a gun for his attack?
May all future terrorists be this stupid.
Yes, most Muslims are quite peaceful (by which I mean not pacifist, just not warring against the USA), but the media really seems to go out of its way to find the non-peaceful ones...and whitewash them.
Who's painting with a broad brush...the ones who warn us of a jihadist element trying to hurt and kill Americans, or the ones who try to shut off such talk as hateful to *all* Muslims?
I think that the general media consensus is that hyperventilating about terrorism is fine when it gets people to vote the way they want them to and should be avoided at all costs if it helps the other guy in some way.
Not sure what this means though.
Do you mean to imply that there's a jihadi lurking in each one just waiting to be tickled in the right way so he'll don the vest for Allah, or is it more just meant to imply that lots of them are violent assholes within normal parameters of violent assholery (like a lot of people)? I can definitely get behind the latter. I can easily imagine getting beaten for drawing a stick figure and writing "Muhammad" on it. On the other hand, I could get about the same out of football fans of some teams by telling them that their chief rivals are better and their team's a bunch of weak nancies. Might be able to get a Scot to punch me in the dick for calling him English. I'm not even about to wade into the HipHop scene.
I mean that we're not looking for people who are "peaceful" in a traditionalist Quaker sense, but people who are "peaceful" in the "won't wage war against the US" sense.
Wouldn't rule out, say, fighting ISIS.
I mean, a Muslim soldier in the US Army who actually fights the enemies of the US and has no dual loyalties...that's awesome (or would be if we fought only real enemies).
Whoops.
Bonus points for using kids as political props.
that photo is bad anyway. 3 kids looking at their phones doesn't really say "danger!!"
"OK Google, how do I survive a shooting"
nice
I was talking about the woman who tweeted. She's the founder of "Moms Demand (insert bullshit here)". But yeah, those "kids" too.
she is pretty terrible too.
That reminds me of former commentor Nicole's plan to shun moms.
I'm tired of our lax gun laws as well. All citizens should have to carry a fully loaded long gun and handgun at all times.
Also, the door opens out.
And they're engineering majors.
Ya know what, GA Tech might not be able to recruit football talent like tOSU, but I bet if you put 5 techies in a room and told them to barricade the door they could build an almost impregnable defense that would shoot poison darts at any one who tried to come in the room.
Well they can come to Columbus and work at Battelle when they graduate.
The entirety of upper management at my work areally GA Tech engineers and at least one of them is mentally retarded.
Important if true
"Potential Trump Pick for Homeland Security Wants to Send up to 1 Million People to Gitmo...
"During a December 2015 segment of his show, The People's Sheriff, on Glenn Beck's TheBlaze radio network, [Milwaukee County Sheriff David] Clarke [Jr.] suggested that any person who posts pro-terrorist sentiments on social media be arrested, deprived of the constitutional protection against unlawful imprisonment (known as habeas corpus), and sent to Guantanamo Bay indefinitely. He estimated the number of people who could be imprisoned under his proposal could reach 1 million. Presumably, this would include American citizens. (The Democratic research group American Bridge caught Clarke proposing this idea.)...
""We have no idea how many people out there have pledged allegiance or are supporting ISIS, giving aid and comfort, but I would suggest hundreds of thousands, I would suggest maybe a million," Clarke said. "It's just a guess. And then you take the known terrorists that are here, and you think we're going to arrest all these people and put them in jails and then sentence them to prison? It's idiotic. [Take them to] Gitmo and hold them indefinitely under a suspension of habeas corpus. We're at war. This is a time of war. Bold and aggressive action is needed.""
Damn, it's a good thing that Obama closed that thing, whoa, that was close!

It will be interesting to see the details as they come available. Did he act alone? Has he been mouthing off of late? Was the car loaned to him with the owner complicit? What about the other two detained later?
Have they found his wife yet?
Maybe they disappeared her already.
Stein missed the deadline to file for a recount in PA and she is now forced to file suit to get the courts to allow a recount anyhow, based on some reason why the court should.
Well:
1) "Democratic Secretary of State Pedro Cortes says there's no evidence of voting irregularities during the Nov. 8 election
"Absolutely not," Cortes told reporters. "There is no evidence whatsoever that points to any type of irregularity in any way, shape or form."
2) Marc Elias, general counsel for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign [..] wrote that "we had not uncovered any actionable evidence of hacking or outside attempts to alter the voting technology."
http://www.philly.com/philly/b.....icult.html
She's hoping for a Friend of the Court filing by Dewey, Cheatem and Howe.
Not so much, she now has 7 million new dollars that she doesn't have to spend on anything, but herself.
And now the people who were hating on Stein for Causing Trump to Win will be cheering her on.
"Don't be a wimp like Hillary, recount *everything*!"
I imagine that there may be concern by the people who *did* try and stuff ballot-boxes that the re-count would actually invalidate many of the votes already on the record.
you start lifting up rocks, who knows what you'll find.

It's real, but nothing is going to be done about it. In your lifetime or mine.

What happens when you put on a protest and everybody laughs?
"Standing Rock activists asking white people to stop treating pipeline protest like Burning Man"
[...]
"According to the Independent, fellow protestors are asking white demonstrators to please stop treating the area like a free-for-all festival, complete with drugs, unsolicited music and photo ops.
"No drugs or alcohol... This is not burning man or a festival," one statement posted on Facebook reads. "... YOU ARE NOT ON VACATION. This is not a camping trip."
"White people are colonizing the camps..." protestor Alicia Smith added on Facebook. "They are coming in, taking food, clothing and occupying space without any desire to participate in camp maintenance and without respect of tribal protocols."

Hard to imagine two groups who deserve each other more. There is comedy in here for many hours of riffing.
Get to the part about the poop.
C'mon folks, this is entirely too rich:

White people are colonizing the camps
So white people are like ants? Entomophobia is problematic.
Ugh, white people, amirite?
I know.
"Suh" sounds like white-surfer-dude talk. How apropos.
*watches video*
So much to unpack there. I've never been to an NFL game, and after watching that I'm stuck between "never" and "hell yeah!"
1) Why would you ever get into it with someone *behind* you? It's one thing if they started the shit, but if you go to the stadium looking for a fight, fight with someone in front of you. It's hard to turn around in those little spaces and you're missing the game.
2) A Steelers jersey? Fuckhead, its stupid enough to go in the jersey of that day's opponent; why make it worse?
3) There was a guy in a Dolphins-colored luchador mask; I approve.
4) Those guys were just swinging away. There's kids around; they DGAF.
5) There's a guy in that area actually complaining about what's going on in the game. Dude, what's happening right next to you is way more interesting than the fucking playcalling.
6) Fat blonde on the left, coral top, huge cans? Sure, I'd take a poke at her. No shame in my game. Moped, baby!
Jr likes motor boatin'. Nothing wrong with that.
The best part:
The black dude in the back filming who yells "World Star!".
watched that with sound off. had no idea why they were fighting. "my team better than your team"?
the highlights for me were
- 0:06 - black guy looks for hi-five, is left hanging. awkwardly decides to not get further involved.
- 0:30 - self important san-fran crusader steps in to say his piece and yell at everyone, while being weakly restrained by what looks to be his developmentally disabled son
- 0:40 - everyone else agrees this man is the new asshole, and attacks him; his developmentally-disabled son first tries symbolically attempting to "make peace" by putting both his hands on the principal fighters; he then changes mind mid-fight, and begins making weak punching gestures at the one assaulting his dad; some other dude who sees this then goes over the top of the scrum to take the disabled retard out.
nothing more can be seen after that, because its just a pile of overweight men dressed like teenagers writhing around on top of one another
I'm shocked that a guy wearing a Suh shirt and his buddy are piece of shit assholes.
Uh, folks, this is Barak Obama you're trying to reach. You know, the guy who plays to the lefty gallery every chance he gets; that guy. The guy who is willing to spend your and my dollars to prove 'he cares about mother nature'; same guy. The lying POS who has yet to deliver on one campaign promise. Him.:
"North Dakota leaders urge Obama for pipeline completion"

"It is the final large segment of the $3.8 billion, 1,200-mile pipeline to carry North Dakota oil to a shipping point in Illinois that's been held up while the Corps consults with the Standing Rock Sioux, who believe the project could harm the tribe's drinking water and Native American cultural sites. Months of protests have taken place near Lake Oahe."
OK, got any reason to suggest harm to the drinking water? Please let us know.
Other than that, you can take your animist religion and shove it up your butt; see A-1.

CNN was basically taking this tack. That he was driven to it because muslims are treated so awfully.
They've used that excuse for Palestinians for, what, 7 decades now?
The next time you see someone all decked out like a hipster, remember that they share a style with the infamous right-wing Mormon Glen Beck.
He looks like he should write for the NYT.
Glen Beck looks bloated.
On an unrelated topic, I've heard that antipsychotic medications sometimes cause weight gain.
Didn't Obama declare open drone season on Al-Shabab just yesterday?
the obama admin has been waging war against Al Shabab* for 2-3 years now
(*technically, "random somalis suspected being part of Al Shabab, but who's counting? they all look the same)
but he yesterday (or today) added Al Shabab to the groups included under AUMF ('affiliated w/ al qaeda') authority, which basically means he can now wage war against them "openly". As though we've been super-subtle about our methods so far. That probably extends much farther than just "drones".
"(*technically, "random somalis suspected being part of Al Shabab, but who's counting? they all look the same)"
So, if there is a drone within striking distance of someone who is claimed to be a 'terrorist', Obo assumes the right to 'smite' them. And now he's trying to ad just a bit of justification for doing so...
BTW, did you hear that Trump wasn't sure of exactly how many of the WH staff he had to replace???!!! The HORROR of someone like that taking over the presidency; well I never!!!!
OT: My wife and I are expecting our second child (laborer), and I should do this.
Congratulations. And here.

"where employees said Mena had stolen three Yuengling beers"
Way to aim for the bottom. Better than jug wine, I guess.
Is it just that familiarity breeds contempt? Because I didn't think Yuengling was that bad when I visited Pittsburgh a few years ago. I've had plenty of worse beer. Shiner Bock, for one.
I don't get putting french fries in sandwiches, but it was still better than what y'all (or is it "yinz"?) call Mexican food.
If you're gonna go misdemeanor, go right up to the line (but not beyond) where it's a felony.
No judgment on the brand of beer; just that she risked (and found) jail for only 3 of them.
And for the record, my Mexican food is outstanding. I have no idea what you mean by "y'all".
Pittsburgh folk, not you. I've read your recipes over the years. They look delicious.
I'm judging based on the poor Mexican food my client took me to, in the NW wilds beyond Pittsburgh, and some poor excuse for a burrito from a roach coach in the city proper. Neither were tasty, though both did appear to be cooked by people with at least some Latin American ancestry. Shrug.
Funny thing is, I tell people the best Mexican food I've ever had in my life was in Chicago, and they don't believe me. Rick Bayless may be overexposed, but Frontera Grill when I went many years ago, served up incredibly tasty tacos, tostadas, and mole enchiladas.
Though Hugo's in Houston isn't shabby at all... Who knew I'd like grasshoppers? (The bug, not the drink, which is also delicious.)
I have "One plate at a time" on in the background right now.
Bayless is the real deal, but not very charismatic on TV.
She throws a dog into traffic.
She urinates and shits in the back of a squad car.
She shoplifts!
. . . and your criticism is that she has poor taste in beer?
If it weren't for the beer, she wouldn't have done any of that.
Q.E.D.
Flawless argumentation.
HM, got that book on "English" on order; you'll get a report.
Ever read "Alpha Beta" on alphabets? Worth a read.
No, I haven't. I anticipate some free time next month where I can actually read for pleasure! I'll add it to the queue.
A quick (and surprisingly good) read.
I did not know about Hangul, and a Korean guy I spoke with about it found it unimpressive by familiarity.
I was impressed.
The Adventure of English documentary series (it has an accompanying book) was quite good...
OK, on the list.
Ken, I got snookered just up-thread; it happens.
OK, let's see what the Chron is offering this evening..., uh, well, OH! Look there!
"SF Supervisor Campos to seek funding to block deportations"
[...]
"Supervisor David Campos on Tuesday plans to propose spending $5 million to provide legal representation to immigrants living in the country without documentation who face deportation."
http://www.sfgate.com/politics.....640856.php
Now isn't that nice of Campos to offer his..........
Oh, wait!
I am an open-borders guy, having seen the self selection of ambitious folks who crossed the border (or that 90 miles from Malecon), but those ambitious folks can scare up legal help on their own.
So Campos is trying to speed up deportation by providing legal services, rather than delaying due to lack of representation? Which side is he supposedly on?
At this point Campos is termed-out.
He's hoping his Rolodex and his signalling will put him into a city-supported non-profit until he can run for office again in 4 years.
Yup, he is setting himself up for the city gravy train once his term is up. Here in SF "sanctuary city" means you need two violent felonies before you get turned in for deportation. That was a considered a compromise.
Oh
Em
Gee
I did not know that "Business Insider" was full of shit:
"Here's why Trump can legally get away with saying things that aren't true"
http://www.sfgate.com/technolo.....611290.php
Because he's replacing a lying POS who has broken records for lying? Is that it?
Or how about A-1?
Because Business Insider has no concept of unalienable rights.
Clearly we need a bigger state with more expansive surveillance capabilities to stop these anarchists.
almost 10pm pst pumpkin time for this thread...
But by all means, let's bring more! /prog
Once we've turned the entire country into a giant insane asylum where ownership of weapons is prohibited and our media and interactions are strictly controlled, we can let in all the crazy people we want. Hell they would belong here.
He may have "self radicalized"...or maybe he was always a loony young Somalian male, and we shouldn't have allowed him into the country in the first place. Alas, we may never know.
Tragic and senseless.
Cyanide and Happiness animates asset forfeiture
Watching a Netflix thing about the Romanovs. So, in this episode, Napoleon and Russia are at war, and they are recreating it. I've got closed captioning on, because it's better than rewinding every few seconds/I'm old/get off my lawn.
So, a bunch of single bore with bayonets being used as pike.
The point is, the closed captioning said "(bayonets fire)..."
Is the one on the left a Vulcan?
If the guy on the right is actually a suspect, he has on some type of security badge. I would guess maybe an employee? Other guy might be middle eastern or white or Asian, hard to tell.
Also, thankfully, the only death reported is the scumbag attacker.
I like the pic of the 10 five pound chairs stacked against the door.
Looks like John Oliver.
They save the normal-sized shotguns for special occasions, I guess.
Was it a social encounter to get past the guard? Or did you DM have you roll initiative straight away?
An outward-opening door. *facepalm*
I assume it's to start a bonfire to lure the shooter into a trap of some sort.
Trying not to make an engineering joke here.
Do you know how much of an inconvenience it would be to an attacker to have to disassemble that pile before he could enter? He would probably just give up at the sight of it. If the attacker has OCD of a certain kind, he will be forced to carefully remove each chair and place them in an orderly and pleasing pattern -- facing forward in evenly spaced rows and columns would be my personal preference. Their plan is brilliant.
If it held the cops off long enough for Jake and Elwood Blues to get the taxes paid for the orphanage, I'm sure it works in non-gun active shooter situations.
+1 Jeffrey Lebowski
+1 outswing
The uniform looks like that of a janitor or maintenance worker, IMO. The other looks like a student to me. Would be odd if they were both involved.
So far, the only thing confirmed is that only a car and large knife were used in the attack, the attacker was shot and killed by cops. No confirmation of anything else yet. The guys in that photo might not have been involved.
Hey, it's Columbus, not East Lansing.
