I wonder when this Study will be highlighted in a reason article. I mean, the first implication is, even if you believe in the carbon model as the prime driver of temperature, the liner assumption of atmospheric carbon by human emissions cannot be held to be true. At the very least there's a new, unmeasured variable in the change in the rate of metabolism of carbon dioxide during times of increased atmospheric concentration. It's almost as if plants grow better when there's more carbon dioxide to metabolize and end up using it faster.
here's an article from a warmist believer which makes the data easier to digest.
It won't as long as Bailey is the guy on the beat.
Didn't make it into his post this afternoon, from what I can tell.
Its almost like there are negative feedback loops involved.
Shh. Metastable trends in any long-term system are unpossible. Notice how ice ages got too cold for life to be sustained.
Why, at the rate the temperature is dropping in my area, we'll be colder than deep space by next June!
Negative feedback? Do you know what this means? How much MORE we will have to burn to stave off the coming ice age?!?!
+1 Fallen Angels.
Hello.
"A police officer in San Antonio was shot and killed while writing a parking ticket in his patrol car, while a cop in St. Louis shot in his patrol car is in critical condition. Both suspects are at-large."
Sad...but....
/Louis CK posture.
Not to sound bad or anything but what if this is human nature's way of settling accounts for all the innocents cop killed? Justice can manifest itself with good cops paying the (ultimate) price for the actions of bad or incompetent ones.
It's, you know, esoteric maybe?
Just saying.
Substitute "black people" for "cops" and see how well that reasoning holds up.
These cops were by all accounts murdered while doing their jobs - if other cops did wicked things try and get them into court.
Shillin for Big Chlorophyll
One thing we do know is that as global warming drove up levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide over the past century, plants appear to have responded to the increase by photosynthesizing faster.
Is this written properly? How does global warming drive up levels of atmospheric CO2?
No. Unless the model has shifted, CO2 levels drive warming.
The models are pretty poor. I can think of several mechanisms which could have warming drive CO2 and vice versa, a positive feedback system.
Can you offer some examples? I'm legitimately curious.
Say a large amount of CO2 was held in either ice or cool water. You could propose heating either of those sources freed most of that CO2. Inthat case, warming would drive CO2 concentration increases in the air. If CO2 really is a significant greenhouse gas at 30-50 ppm changed between 300 and 400 ppm, then that would cause more warming. Eventually you would either reach a CO2 max concentration in the air where not further warming drove new CO2 or a greenhouse limit where no further radiation was trapped by CO2. But there could be a cycle like that.
As the oceans warm, they would be able to hold less CO2 in solution, which would be released to the atmosphere, so warming of the planet would cause an increase in CO2.
Sorry, I'm talking about the official model, which is your basic greenhouse model, whereby warming is solely the result of atmospheric gases trapping radiation close to the surface that used to make it back to space. I agree that correlation isn't causation. Although given the low activity of the Sun, sunspots and their lack are perhaps not the primary driver, either?
The idea is that warmer climate means more biological activity means more co2 released.
It's supposed to be a positive feedback loop.
More CO2 is released by fauna, more is taken up by flora.
The shit is complicated.
That is a truth that should echo down the ages. 😉
*shrug* I had other options, but I figured I'd give the warmist a chance to be the representative reporting article.
I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a typing error. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't some new counterintuitive feedback loop that was being preached as gospel by the AGW brigade.
Well the fear of positive feedback loops where the warming itself causes sources of trapped CO2 to release that CO2 is one of the larger drivers of alarmism.
Basically they postulate that as the climate warms the Tundra and Oceans along with methane hydrates frozen on the ocean bottom will release the CO2 they are holding leading to even greater warming that was caused by human contributions.
That is how they get to the bullshit 7 degrees warming by the end of the century predictions.
However in this case it was probably just a poorly structured sentence
Warmer weather means that arctic tundra defrosts, and warmer oceans have a lower dissolved-gas carrying capacity, amongst other effects.
There have been periods in history when the temperature curve is ahead of the CO2 curve... for a long time these periods were problematic for climate researchers to explain (to say the least)
It's almost as if plants grow better when there's more carbon dioxide to metabolize and end up using it faster.
My brother was an avid, uh, horticulturalist, and could tell you all about carbon intensification in his grow room indoor greenhouse.
I have a sub to Nature. Once or twice a year, they have reports of model enhancements such as .... including cloud coverage! Including humidity! .... and other aspects which you'd think would be vital to any climate model. How anyone could support those models for trillion dollar expenditures to mitigate effects a centry later is beyond my comprehension.
The enhanced carbon sink has been attributed to increased ocean and terrestrial uptake
And that's why the new hotness (har har) will be ocean acidification.
I read somewhere that typical plant DNA is predisposed towards much higher CO2 concentrations than the pre-industrial norm, implying that the 'natural ideal' level is more akin to the post-industrial norm. I think it's possible that humans have jumpstarted the degrading carbon cycle and extended the planet's habitability for a few more million years than would otherwise be the case. I realize that theory must make your average Global Warmer's head explode.
Watch it! You might endanger someone's funding if talk like that gets around.

So....white nationalists make an exception for the Vietnamese, apparently?
If you peruse the alt-right internet you're going to see the phrase non-Asian minority or NAM come up fairly often. So yeah, ain't nothing wrong with the Vietnamese since they're surely aware of the horrors that black ghetto culture and central American immigrants represent.
Didn't the left actually come up with "NAM"? To justify not counting Asians when it came to affirmative action and minority set-asides and college admissions?
Possibly, but I personally haven't seen it outside of immigration restrictionist spaces.
Didn't the left actually come up with "NAM"? To justify not counting Asians when it came to affirmative action and minority set-asides and college admissions?
Yes, they sure did. Not only that, but also in figuring national immigration totals as well, as it's part and parcel of the so-called, "Anchor Baby," Racket that the Chinese in particular are fond of exploiting.
So, like, a hundred fifty people.
If that is the best DC can do they will never win against Portland.

Wait, did today's problems eat your first comment?
Something's been up with commenting for several days. If they think their going to wring more webathon donations from this fellow based on the need to upgrade infrastructure, I know that Trump is already going to do that for me for free.
Today's problems? They've been going on for two weeks!
Ever since election night, actually.
I blame Trump.

"I am intoxicated"
I have a disturbing confession; I dreamed about posting on Reason last night. That is a dream about typing at my desk and leaving a comment. This is wildly bizarre as I am of course by no means a high volume poster nor frankly am I more than 60% in line with the rest of you politically.
Of course I also dreamed that I reached into the chest of Pierre Trudeau while he was giving a campaign speech and grabbed his still beating heart and buried it in a field.
So lots of randomly firing neurons last night.
Every time you dream about Reason SugarFree writes a story. Way to go, Not a Libertarian.
And yet, even after burying his heart, he would not die. . .
In the dream in fact he did not die, at least right away. He continued arguing with a constituent. She was very vocal that Trudeau should acknowledge any of his illegitimate children, lest one of his sons accidentally marry one of his half sisters.
Dreams are not supposed to make sense, but my word this was odd.

Donald Trump settled a fraud lawsuit over Trump University for $25 million.
And where, specifically, will that money go? Certainly not to those he "defrauded".
To the lawyers, of course.
Did Trump admit fraud as part of the settlement? Or is it just a payoff to make it go away?
The latter.
"You were so brave to speak at the Children's Defense Fund without make-up, my desert flower," Huma whispered.
"Harder, Huma. Harder."
"You don't need make-up. You have such beautiful skin."
"Harder."
"But I don't want to hurt you, my love."
"Don't worry about that."
Huma arm-wrestled Hillary's enormous, angry clitoris back and forth while keeping her elbow firmly planted on her flailing pseudo-penis.
"I'm about to, I'm about to," Hillary gasped. Huma worked the stiff clitoral hood, producing a sound like celery being crushed underfoot.
"I'M ABOUT TO!"
The pseudo-penis tore itself loose and reared up at Huma, striking at her face. She caught it in her mouth and bit down it until it sagged, falling limp along with the rest of Hillary. Huma settled on her bulk with a contented sigh.
"Your skin," Huma said, gathering slack handfuls and kneading it. "Never wear make-up again."
Hillary ran her hands through Huma thick black hair.
"Don't be silly, dear. Even though my body beginning to revert back to mere human, there will always be? structures that will have to be hidden. My skin was drinking the make-up that day, yet I still had to appear in public. At least the air was no longer eating my skin away."
"Yes, my love."
"And we found a solution that didn't require The Vessel. Maybe in four years?"
"Won't he be too old?"
"Yes, for The Old One to inhabit, but it may have other uses."
"And you are well, my love?" Huma whispered into Hillary's gray and lolling breast sacks. She poked a finger into the shrinking maw in Hillary's midsection and pulled it out playfully before the tiny ring of teeth could close.
"Yes, I never knew fisting interns could be so nutritious."
I was wondering what horrors were waiting after that second "harder" but it was so much worse than I had imagined.
And is Bubba "The Vessel"? I can't keep up. Where's your back catalog of these stories?
http://hrsugarfree.blogspot.com/
The Vessel is Huma and Anthony Weiner's son, Jordan.
I feel so sorry for that kid. You know he has no chance whatsoever at a decent life. In previous decades he could have run away and gone to sea, but those days are gone.

Somebody get this woman some professional help.
What annoys me about the reactions to Trump's victory is how weak-willed they are. There is a contingent of people who claim to be scared that the gestapo will be coming for women and Muslims, and their reaction is to hug each other? Fascists don't care about hugs. I'd have way more respect for them if they instead learned how to use a gun.
Of course they're weak, they're ruled by pure emotion, which is fairly common for women. It's when men act like that, that it's truly disgusting.
Well, men are no less ruled by emotion. It just tends to be different emotions.
Sounds like you need a hug.
This is why I keep saying: nobody believes the hyperbolic bullshit coming from the left. When sales of guns and ammunition start spiking, then we'll know that they believe everything they're saying about their "fears".
Use your words, children. Apprehension, irritation, sadness, those things make some sense. We get it, the genitalia of the President means a lot to you, and overrides all other concerns about fitness for the job. "Fear" and "terror" are hyperbole and we all know it. Stop being a bunch of progtards.

That was awesome. She was caught red-handed.
The part I never understood is why they didn't just tape the interviews themselves, then release the unedited transcripts and tape, even before YouTube. Now, just tape the darn thing, and catch them lying all the time. It'll both take away their audience, hurting them, making the interview not exclusive if it was in the first place, and expose them as the liars they are.
Well good for France.

Assuming that M. Fillon does actually prevail over M. Jupp? for the Republicans nomination:
Fillon has taken some quite (European) liberal stances such as raising the retirement age to 65 and phasing out the 35 hour work week limit and assorted other changes to the French State. This in a country that has not necessarily grown more liberal over time.
I've read commenters state that he is a MUCH stronger candidate against Le Pen than Sarkozy would have been or that potentially Jupp? might be.
Is this really the case? Could there be anti-globalists on the left who might prefer the statism of Mlle Le Pen over the liberalism of Fillon?
I don't know, I just want to see the conniption fit Junker throws when France votes to invoke Article 50.

Libertarians and other advocates of a free society should recognize that those inclined to resist Trump and Pence are allies, and that includes the cast of Hamilton?. But such tactics deserve serious scrutiny, even if they are justified. The point is to stop Trump, not just feel better about having made some futile gesture of resistance.
Yeah, okay, you simpering nitwit.
How does Robby propose stopping Trump and from what?
It involves "allies", and apparently Trump has "Policies" which people are rightfully terrified of.
They never actually specified if it was the =
- Deportation Program No Different From Obama's
or
- the Wall/Fence/"Private Property"-Sign he (maybe) intends to install at the border
or
- His long track record of being friendly with the gays
... or some other imagined Future-Program that terrified them so
Well....stopping Trump from installing Sessions as AG would be a good thing.
Surely some more virtue-signaling by Broadway Actors will accomplish that goal.
The point is to stop Trump, not just feel better about having made some futile gesture of resistance.
Yes, we read it the first time, and the obvious question was raised
""How does Robby propose stopping Trump and from what""
The 10 point rationalization of silly-broadway-actor's-behavior never really bothered to explain how that works, or what needed stopping.
Of course it would. It got Hillary elected, didn't it?
The Muslim registry, and increase in the rate of deportation (which may require more aggressive policing), trade protectionism, staffing his administration with hawks and drug warriors...
Is a lot of this hypothetical? Yes. Have some of these come from people outside of Trump's inner circle, and might they actually be bogus? Sure. That's why a "wait and see" approach makes way more sense than a "HOLY SHIT WE ALL NEED TO START FREAKING OUT NOW" approach. But a wait and see approach doesn't preclude thinking about how a coalition might resist these policies, should they come to pass.
And the fact that some of this may actually be business as usual doesn't mean we should just accept it.
Actual quote =
"" we ? are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights""
Absolutely nothing there even hints at anything you mention.
- "Not Protect Us" pretty much makes anti-protectionism a non-starter.
- "Our planet" suggests environmental policy.
- "inalienable rights" references the Constitution - which, as has been repeatedly pointed out - gives the president enormous leeway in restricting immigration, even so far as to allow specification races/nationalities/religions to be banned.
Its 100% content-less "Feels" whining. For robby or you to suggest they were concerned about "policy" is being generous to the point of hearing 'what you wish they had said'.
I didn't read the post, but the part quoted above sounded to me like Robby was simply saying "these people need guidance and focus, but we shouldn't brush them off entirely". And I was responding to the question "from what?"
Also, I can understand why people concerned about environmental policy would be concerned about a Trump administration. Also also, "not protect us" seems pretty obviously to be a more general statement about vulnerable groups than trade protectionism, so it doesn't rule anti-trade-protectionism out. Also also also, I strongly suspect the Hamilton cast would show concern over specific policies as they relate to immigration, and possibly hawkish interventions. Maybe some of them would show concern over the drug war. Trade is probably far down on their radar. But just because they didn't mention specific policies doesn't mean that they aren't concerned about them. They are actors, on a stage - emotional appeals are their strong suit.
yeah, that wasn't even 1 of his 10-points.
he actually said, "" it expressed well-founded concerns about the kinds of policies President Trump has vowed to enact""
really.
Basically, i think there's a miscommunication here because you're defending a post you haven't actually read... and assuming that 'well, he must have said something obvious, like ________'... rather than creating some nonsensical logic/feels-pretzel out of it.
I was more answering the question "what should try to stop Trump from doing?"
That's very kind of you.
Ask and ye shall receive
The question was what "robby proposed"... but still. Its always nice to hear suggestions.
How does Robby propose stopping Trump and from what?
Riding Robby Horses and Going Sheep Deep.
Washpo has a "story" about how Trump's Hamilton response isnt really all that genius lol. He is an organ grinder and they are his monkeys lol
"Barack Obama says he'll give Trump a chance, even if he attacks his legacy."
Out of curiosity, what's the difference between Obama giving Trump a chance and Obama not giving Trump a chance?
If Obama doesn't give Trump a chance, what does that mean and who cares?
Why should anyone care what Obama thinks about Trump or anything else?
Fuck what Barack Obama thinks, and fuck Barack Obama.
Paper version only; no link:
"Encryption Gains Favor ('cause Trump)"
Story begins with bald statement that 'encryption companies' are seeing a great demand since a couple of Tuesdays ago (no source, no quote, nothing) and then spends X paragraphs quoting the heads of every damn identity-group they can find about how 'skeered the widdle kids are'!
Not a word about Obama's *record* of snooping, just a fear that Trump *might* snoop.
Trump Derangement Syndrome ain't going away.
Swing and a miss there: Barron should be the kid's middle name, first name Robert, pronounced in the French style.
Something tells me one of the top priorities for the noble Trump-stoppers is keeping his evil influence from causing interest rates to rise. And, OMFG, what if he accepts Janet Yellin's resignation? Who will be our saviour, then?
Not sure if he wants them to rise; I think I recall a quote from Bannon to the effect of, rates are negative, so let's build 3200 Hoover dams.
Found it:
Krugabe approves
Krugabe will certainly disapprove if a Republican is proposing infrastructure. Not quite yet, but wait.
In a few months, Krugabe will discover how bad deficits are for the economy and how Trump's short-term infrastructure spending will be bad in the long term.
Just wait and see. It's as predictable as snow in the Minnesota winter. You don't know what the first snow day will be, but you know with certainty that it will snow. And, after that, the whole place will be under snow for quite some time.
I agree that the left will suddenly find themselves reviling from Democrat Policies Delivered By a Red Tie
I also expect that a lot of the right-wing critics who used to say like "Infrastructure Spending"was just boondoggle-handouts wrapped as "investment" will now applaud Trump's version of the ARRA
If he believes that negative interest rates can be solved by making more fake money, he's stupider than I thought. On the plus side, at least if you by real stuff with fake money, you have stuff and someone else has paper.
"Oh yeah, I'm on my Trump shit right now."
Cocaine?

So I make a comment and hit submit, then it doesn't show, but it sure seems like it's going to. So I hit refresh like 5 times. Nope. Ok, post the same comment. RIght, so now there are two. It was waiting for me to post it a second time so it would make sure to have a duplicate.
If after you hit submit you have a URL that ends in comment_##### (with a number instead of the pound signs) you comment will appear... eventually.
Former France President Nicolas Sarkozy lost his bid to be nominated for president once more. Marine Le Pen is leading in early polling for the 2017 election.
Marine La Pen will probably win. Unlike alt-America, France isn't afraid of glass ceilings.
le pen et le phone?
All the little girls in France will be so proud to have her as a role model.
Grab'em by the nuts.
After you swore at the squirrels, things got better.
