Don't Blame Me and Other Gary Johnson Voters When Clinton or Trump Wins Loses Tonight
I voted my conscience for a candidate who is for free trade, immigration, and sane drug policy. And who is anti-war. Might've voted for yours if they were too.

The longer the 2016 election drives into the night, the antsier and angrier supporters of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are getting. And for obvious reason: They're worried that this thing is coming down to the wire and is going to be close as hell (which is to say, 2000).
Mention that you voted for the Libertarian Gary Johnson, Green Party nom Jill Green, independent candidate Evan McMillan, or anyone other than the Democrat and Republican and you're likely to get sprayed with some tweet-acid about how, to paraphrase the nativists on South Park, "YOU TOOK ER VOTES!"
@nickgillespie @LiveNLetLive12 @GovGaryJohnson When your rights get curtailed remember how good that feeling was.

@nickgillespie @GovGaryJohnson And now you'll get none of those things with President Trump. But you do get a racist rapist. Good job?
— Former GOP John (@FormerGOPJohn) November 9, 2016
Let's be clear about a few things, shall we?
First and most important, it's a complete fallacy to presume that my vote (according to my conscience) actually belongs to your preferred candidate. Votes aren't preordained to belong to any particular candidate.
Second, election night is a bit late to be worried about who I was voting for and why I voted for him or her. If you're only getting around to noticing that not everyone thinks your preferred candidate is the be-all and end-all now, that's your problem, not mine.
Third, when your temper subsides and the dawn breaks, remember that politics is about building a broad coalition of people with different goals and ideals. If your candidate loses by the amount of ballots cast for Gary Johnson (who by 9:30 P.M. ET had already pulled 50 percent more votes than he did in 2012), think about how you could pull me, Libertarians, Greens, etc. into your coalition. Same if your candidate won.

Wishful thinking Nick-democrats always look for a scapegoat and its name will be Gary Johnson. Some of my derpbook friends are already blaming him for her Her Highness underperforming.

Gillespie's alcohol intake has overcome his ability to remember candidates' names.
Granted, we've all been calling him McMuffin. Stein's just really confused.
Think Nick should consider some regular exercise.
The endorphins do help brain function, and the increase in self-confidence helps alleviate the need to deflect insecurity phantoms onto others.
I do think insecurity helps explain some of the excessive derp targeted towards a certain wealthy, beauty pageant organizer.
Fuck You, you cuck piece of shit
t's expected by most people who aren't dazzled by the glints of gold from everything associated with Donald Trump that he will lose decisively tonight to Hillary Clinton. And then probably pitch a fit for the next couple of weeks.
Your Hitlery vote couldn't save OHIO.
Hey!
Hey!
dkos...
This is the best libertarian Christmas since that day the EBT cards stopped working. Better, because this one will last for YEARS not just hours
Most proggies don't understand that asking a libertarian to vote for Hillary is like asking a Muslim to eat pork.
We have pretty big problems with scummy politicians in general. Criminals in office make us seethe. How do they not get this?
100%
That's funny, because if I were a betting man, I'd say that if you put guns to the heads of every Johnson voter and told them they HAD to vote for either Hillary or Trump, most would go Trump.
They'd have to pull the trigger. These two major party candidates are the worst I've seen in my lifetime. They are deplorable and not fit for office.
Thought I was blocked ! My gloat comments weren't showing up on other threads.
Most proggies don't understand that asking a true libertarian to vote for Hillary is like asking a Muslim to eat pork.
The Shadowbanning of Siv.
Thank you, Nick. Your articulate explanation will likely oft be lost in the fog of kneejerk tribalism, but it is right on the mark. The unexamined life (or policies) may not be worth living, but quite a few folks are making a serious go of it.
The Reason Foundation should fire Gillespie now. He's embarrassing.
This is one of the few things Nick ever said that kinda made sense to me. I will pay $500 for a round trip to the quantum alternate universe in which the Orange Julius lost just to wallow in that extra dose of schadenfreude. Whining looter dems and sobbing faith-based looters are both music to my ears.
I though GJ was toast, but it looks like he'll get 5% after all?
He's doing well, and pot initiatives are passing, but where does libertarianism go from here? It looks like the public is FIRMLY against free trade and laissez faire economics.
This country lives on trade. The republicans have got to keep this man from doing anything stupid. I think Trump will pivot (every candidate does) a bit in the white house. With the right moves he could make America great again. It's a long shot, but he's proved people wrong this whole year.
How do you figure? Both candidates are awful on trade, no matter who wins.
Yeah but you would expect republicans to reject protectionist candidates. Free trade was a tea party cause not that long ago.
There has been a shift in this country, and I'm not sure it's friendly to libertarian leaning faction of the GOP.
My head-canon conspiracy theory is that Donald Trump was a democratic plant from day 1 designed to pull just enough of the alt-right fringe away from better Republican candidates and be the only person Hillary Clinton would look better than. Somehow she pulled off the impossible and still failed to beat the person set up specifically for her to beat.
I had a a similar suspicion. The Dilbert cartoonist absolutely declared the Orange Julius the winner back at primaries time. The key seems to be that 3/4 of humanity care not a whit for facts, but have manipulable moist robot epistemology (Asch 1955, Adams yesterday). Since suckers outnumber any who think, THEY decide elections for whoever can persuade them to say 2+2=5. We are lucky they form mutually hateful tribes, with coercive prohibition and creationist pseudoscience ganging together against coercive prohibition and global warming Millerites.
Statistically, there have to be a couple of million people who voted for Obama last time, and voted for Trump this time. What they have in common is that they believed they were voting against the establishment. Also, the fact that they were hoodwinked into voting for business as usual.

Not regretting my GJ vote in Florida either. I just doubt the Democratic Party learned anything from it.
If they elect Howard Dean as DNC chairman, it will show they have learned nothing.
Also if Nicholas Sarwark is still LP chairman, we will have learned nothing.
The LP vote tripled or quadrupled on Nick's watch. THAT will plug nicely into market share forecasting equations the DemoGOP wants never to see.
You will be blamed, and with key states being this close, you are going to have trouble explaining it away.
Johnson failed you yet again. He is a weak candidate, mealy-mouthed and not someone who can fight his corner. He gambled on a VP that not only failed him, but practically endorsed Clinton a week before the election.
He has hurt the cause, and so have you.
The only thing proven this election is that there's no chance for a third-party. If Johnson couldn't poll higher than 10% or get more than 4+% of the actual vote in the age of Clinton/Trump... well, it's highly improbable in a normal year. All the reasons and excuses for why it didn't happen pale in comparison to the fact that it didn't. It would just be different reasons/excuses in any other election.
Defeatism... it grips me.
Why blame the author, the ticket was so buffoonish, they did it all themselves.
A VP that.........
I know, as it is always, "yeah but....."
Brace yourselves...
I don't know who my prog brother will be angrier at. My dad who voted Trump, myself who voted Johnson, or my mother and sister who didn't vote?
Be nice to your brother and offer him a chance to beg your forgiveness for his porgtardedness.
Blame you, Nick? You are a piece of shit who poses as a Libertarian but is not one. I blame you for being a disingenuous douche and not much else. Go fuck yourself.
Well said Nick.
You crossed out the wrong name in the headline. Mistake or wishful thinking at the time?
How could that possibly be 'wishful' thinking? Anyone advocating for a Hillary presidency is a traitor, pure and simple.
You know... you do have a point there with your inflammatory rhetoric.
*Paging Mr. Jillette to the Suicidy Suite*
Nobody should ever apologize for being a libertarian. Seriously, grow a pair. Its the Hillary supporters who should be apologizing. They made President Trump possible running such a corrupt old hag for office.
Corrupt PROHIBITIONIST looter carbon tax hag.
But in reality there were a number libertarian positions that were ripped from the pages of the DNC. Like border control and amnesty. Like trade generally and TPP specifically.
Polls are generally right, though. Especially since the there are only two outcomes to an election. Nate Silver got most of the midterm races right and a number of polls came close to calling Obama's 3 point victory in 2012.
Trump certainly pissed on the 10% odds of him winning the election, but most polls had the race tightening after Comey's big assist. And the low black turnout (or low turnout in general) was widely acknowledged as a concern for the democrats. Thing were trending up for Trump, down for Clinton. On the actual election day those trends took a HUGE turns that no one saw.
When a team loads the bases with no outs in the ninth and trails by 2 runs, the table is set for some runs. The advantage is on the home team. But not all teams can hit a game winning grand slam home run in that situation. Trump did.
Canada's immigration website just crashed
The Government of Canada's immigration website crashed on Tuesday night as the US election results were rolling in.

"Both" parties want people jailed or shot for a plant, both want asset-forfeiture looting to continue, therefore both want the economy to keep crashing. I am sooo pleased to be able to vote and volunteer for freedom. There was no such thing in the 1960s... just conscription, war, prohibition, coathanger abortions and loss of Second Amendment rights over no end of victimless nonsense. Gary's crop of spoiler votes is going to repeal a raft of totalitarian enactments.

Actually you voted for a candidate that didn't support "open borders" but discriminatory borders favoring 100% welfare eligible, and 100% affirmative action favoritism eligible, discriminating against the rest with ten year waits and thousands of dollar fees. Trump voters obviously smarter than you, Nick, saw that four more years of that that would result in a permanent loyalty vote for the welfare state.

I agree with Gillespie, and voted for Johnson.
Now, unfortunately IMHO, Trump supporters will soon be disappointed. I bet his 2017 budget spends more and has a higher deficit than Obama's 2016 budget. Since Trump doesn't know that the freedom we used to have is what made America great, that's not what we'll get.
Instead, we'll get more of the same, with better enforcement of the border (as if that will matter much), a trade war (Trump obviously doesn't know that when we tried that with the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act US GDP fell by almost half within 3 years before the act was repealed), and perhaps an even worse financial crisis where no one wants US dollars and no one will loan any money to the US.
The progressives will say, "I told you so", and so the lousy economy will get even worse, except for Trump's personal economy. At least this time, the MSM will be investigating the president, instead of worshiping him.
I hope I'm wrong but I wouldn't bet on it.
