Okay, okay, the links are mostly late because everybody in the Reason office was taking this quiz to figure out what our Patronuses (Patroni?) would be.
Mine would be an awesome ice dragon that breathed nails.
I think, after this morning's debacle, that mine is obviously a squirrel.
Mine is probably a meerkat.
Mine is whatever Patroni didn't want to open a Harry Potter account.
Does that mean ENB and i share the same one or do we each get our own ?
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail,,,,,,,

A BMW is a hell of a Patronus.
My wife's was a red squirrel!
[Lifts finger up....then lowers it down in a nevermind gesture.]
Why does this come to mind?

Yeah, but do the drapes match the carpet?
Mine was a W87 with a smiley face painted on it.
My would be Manbearpig with arms that transform into laser cannons.
Mine is a rattlesnake, which is awesome.
Snakes don't have hair.
Each of Robby's individual hairs is like a small sassy rattlesnake.
so, a 'meDUDEsa', eh?
Robby = Medussa?
I'm surprised it wasn't a piece of fruit sushi or bottle of mousse.
Mine is a creature that is unwilling to create a user account just to take the quiz. Also, it has swords and lasers.
Yeah, same here on the account. Not gonna happen.
I hate creating accounts. I have to create an account to RSVP for a fucking kid's birthday party, to make dinner reservation, etc.
Tony's is a catheter worm.
EWWWwww
Hello.
"Okay, okay, the links are mostly late because everybody in the Reason office was"
NOT AN EXCUSE.
'Breathed' nails. Is that, like, how it died? Because once it got a snootful of nails and choked on them?
How freakin' old are you lot? 12?
Fuck that quiz. I'll just go with penguin.
there some hot shark in the banana boat tonight.
It said I'd get out in Abnegation.
But by now you know to expect this
That doesn't mean you have to stoop to our lowered expectations.
I love Robby's trolling.
I know, but I hate admitting that.
We also have learned to expect alt-text from everyone else.
Hillary Clinton is preparing for the debate Monday.
By putting the final plastic surgery touches on her double.
Nah, they're tweaking her meds. Trying to find the balance between the narcoleptic state on display in a recent presser, and the angry bugeyed ranter of the "why aren't I ahead by 50 points" interview.
That really was something. Anger and desperation is an interesting strategy. Not sure it's going to work for her.
Take all the Hitler shows the History Channel has done and in 20 years they can all be Hilary shows.
My favorite: High HIlary
Wait -- Ted Cruz had dignity? Are you sure? I must have blinked and missed it.
I think he was just being funny there. Cruz never ever ever had dignity.
If Trump gets elected and it is the shit-show I expect it to be, Cruz will have the utmost dignity if he doesn't stand on the capitol steps waving his dick and telling us all that he told us so.
Hillary Clinton is preparing for the debate Monday.
A nap from now until then with an IV drip.
Okay, okay, the links are mostly late because everybody in the Reason office was taking this quiz
Everyone? I mean, ok, you, ENB and Nick... I'm having trouble visualizing Matt, Moynihan or Tuccille engaging in this tomfoolery.
Matt, Moynihan and Tuccille have been let go. Coincidence? I don't think so.
They rent chairs in the office.
You have to make an account to take the quiz. What libertarian in his right mind would register himself just to participate in any website?
You know who else...
deyizofepi|9.23.16 @ 6:14PM|?
Now, that was funny.
"Elizabeth Nolan Brown remains embarrassingly ignorant of Potter lore, and declined to participate."
There is yet hope.
I usually give ENB a hard time, but I suddenly have strange new respect for her.
ENB is definitely one of the top three....Reason writers on the street.
+1 part-time model
Extra Nonpariel Babe, she is.
Google image search shows that she looks like Roosh V or some little black girl that's getting groped by Donald Trump.
This makes her normal.
I don't know that I'd go that far.
Video shows woman shooting at burglars during Gwinnett home invasion
She's lucky to live in a place that respects that right to defend herself.
Good for her. I love it when people shoot home invaders.
Stories like this make you want to button Gwinnett.

Thank you , Rico. This is progress.
No, it isn't. This is the equivalent of both "the dog ate my homework" and "you'll take it and like it."
But he's right isn't he? We'll take it. You can't respect someone who kisses your ass.
No it isn't. He can't even identify the correct University.
Just about fell out of my chair laughing. I hadn't noticed this either.
Ted Cruz ain't no cuck, will endorse Donald Trump, surrender shreds of dignity that remain to him.
Seeing which way the wind is possibly blowing.
Angling for a cabinet position, perhaps? Secretary of Spineless Dickbaggery?
I imagine that ship would have sailed, but who knows what behind the scenes deals could have been made for this. Maybe Cruz is somehow delivering votes with this endorsement.
I can't figure out what Cruz has to gain by this. Which makes me suspect he's got some sort of behind-the-scenes shitweaselry going on. Cruz and Paul were about the only two I had some bit of respect for in the race, but both of them veered hard in the primaries. Paul played the "man of my word" card, endorsed the GOP nominee and shut the hell up, but Cruz has been playing the "man of principle" card but finally has had to admit he was bluffing all along. That sure is going to piss off some folks - I suspect this shit may come back and bite him in the ass a la Bush's "read my lips" flip-flop.
I can't figure out what Cruz has to gain by this.
I don't think there's any cunning plan here. It was easy to dump on The Donald when nobody thought he would win. Now that he's tied and has the momentum, though, well, time to hedge your bets if you are a Repub, and recant your heresy. Nobody wants to wake up after the election on record as opposing the new President from their own party.
Maybe Nationally but probably not in Texas.
Cruz is the only politician in my life time who's pre election rhetoric matched his post election actions to a TEE.
He single handedly fought against Obamacare and the budget that Rs passed that gave Obama everything he asked for plus some things he didn't.
Our other Senator was right in there with Bohner and Obama making sure that Congress was exempt from Obamacare.
When Cruz gave a 50 or 60 minute speech on the Senate floor naming names and calling out McConnell to be a liar he won my everlasting support.
He is a strict Constitutionalist .
I know someone who has been a personal friend of his for 15 years and my friend has said he isn't nearly as anti pot while sitting around the fire at a deer camp as he is on TV. Whatever that may be worth.
Cruz came across as an asshole in the debates and at the convention. Sore loser. He might be a good Senator, however.
Secretary of Cowboy Boots with Suits!
Hillary Clinton is preparing for the debate Monday.
When I think of her preparing for the debate, I think of the scene from The Wall where they are trying to get Bob Geldolf on stage to the tune of Comfortably Numb
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on, it's time to go.
Trump (well, one of his deniable surrogates) should put together a video clip of Hillary hacking, stumbling, and spazzing with that as the sound track.
I saw the Boomtown Rats live in a small theater in 1980. Geldof was amazing and magnetic. One of the best concerts I've ever seen, and as a result I never hold anything against Geldof, not even The Wall.
That really is the perfect image.
But now Sugarfree is going to write a story where she shaves off her nipples.
I was hoping that was going to be this
That's more like how /r/The_Donald pictures Trump.
This New York Times column by Lionel Shriver about millennials' free speech problem is required reading.

Look who's a pretty boy slaver! I'm on to you.
Elizabeth Nolan Brown remains embarrassingly ignorant of Potter lore, and declined to participate.
Respect.
I stopped at "As a life-long Democrat"
ENB refused to participate? I like her even more now.
She's too busy in her laboratory, finding ways to make sex boring.
ENB is adorable. Stop raining on my dreams Paul
Ted Cruz endorses Trump. But his conscience!!! Lololol
Is anyone really surprised?
What about Trump's conscience? Does he want the support of the son of one of the Kennedy assassination conspirators?
He said he would support the eventual nominee, didn't he?
eventually.
Personally I think each party would be better off if their own candidate doesn't win. It's not like Trump or Hillary are going to get more popular as they govern. Either is going to be one of the most unpopular presidents in a long time, and assuming they are still their party's candidate in four years, a loss could be a permanent setback to the party. Incumbents usually win re-election but neither of this likely will, so assuming the 2016 loser party nominates a remotely decent candidate in 2020 (i.e. someone more bearable than these two clowns), they'll likely hold the presidency for at least 8 years.
Cruz's main argument was the need to nominate a new Supreme Court justice, but there will always be more court nominations to come, and long term, 4 years now vs. 8 years starting in four years, you're likely to make a bigger impact on the court with the latter. From a Republican standpoint, they look likely to keep Congress, so Hillary's going to have trouble nominating a Leftist ideologue and flip the court's balance, as the warning goes.
I basically made this same argument the other day.
Both need to completely re-form themselves to shed some of their dead-wood legacy characters, and modify their stance to include more of the younger set which is leading both "more leftist" and "more libertarian" respectively.
Both have better opportunity to do that in the opposition than they do supporting a current-president who sucks.
"Both need to completely re-form themselves to shed some of their dead-wood legacy characters, and modify their stance to include more of the younger set which is leading both "more leftist" and "more libertarian" respectively."
Just like the Dems did in 2008 and the Reps in 2016! Haha!
Share some of those 'meds.'
The 2008 election is a perfect example of how the Dems used the opportunity of the post-Bush years to get the most progressive candidate since Carter elected. They didn't need to "re-form" because they actually had a rock-star candidate ready for the role, and a ripe millenial voting population poised to give them whatever mandate they wanted.... anything "not bush" was good enough for them.
Now that they've shot their wad, and the promise of Hope & Change has failed.... they're sort of stuck offering their voters a re-warmed over 1990s candidate. They don't have any new sales-pitch, nor any youthful candidates to make that pitch.
And 2008 wasn't a period in time where the "old guard" was quite out of gas the way they (almost) are now. The Clinton generation is now literally dying off/retiring. The baby boomers can't run shit indefinitely. And unlike the GOP, the Dems don't seem to have a B-team ready to take over.
And yes, the reason Trump swept everyone else aside is exactly because of the GOP failure to recognize that they needed a fresh strategy. Trump won by default.
My point (made a few days ago) was that the GOP will probably benefit from losing here more than the Dems will; because the Dems will end up just coasting on fumes... while the GOP will rebuild entirely.
My point was that losing didn't lead to any serious reform. Just re-packaging. Or in Trumps case, failure to repackage successfully so that Trump could beat the establishment. I don't expect serious reform of either party, regardless of the outcome. I think you are too optimistic.
I'd take the under on a 4 year over/under bet. There's a fairly good chance Hilary will either croak or become enfeebled by illness within four years and an excellent chance that Trump would be impeached and convicted.
Considering the Republicans are likely to keep Congress and Hillary has a penchant for corruption and skirting the law, seems like she's the more likely target for impeachment.
Impeachment maybe, but conviction unlikely. Need 60. And no Dem has enough conscience to buck the party.
Nobody commented on my bit of fiction from yesterday, so here it is again:
"Huma, you have done well with your task of spreading Islam in the United States. You are the proudest achievement of the Muslim Brotherhood. You successfully seduced the infidel demon Hillary, and pushed her Middle East policy in our direction, and help advance Obama's immigration plans. However, to successfully cover your mission, Allah requires an even greater sacrifice. You must enter into a sham marriage with a Jewish politician, a pervert."
"But..."
"Allah wills it. We need this to enhance your cover, to ensure that you stay with Hillary, in order to continue administering the tiny doses of the slow neurotoxin the Russians made. They tell us that she needs to collapse in the late summer or fall of 2016, before the election. Why they want it to be just then, I cannot imagine, but Allah's will is beyond our understanding, and sometimes requires temporary alliances with enemies...."
It's nice, but you're no SugarFree.
Some might consider that a good thing.
Needs moar meat tent.
I liked it, P.
Thanks, R C!
EXCUSES ARENT LINKS
LINKS ARE FOR CLOSERS
Meanwhile, some Trump supporters are boycotting the show because of Mark Cuban's outspoken criticism of Trump.
Okay.
Hmmm...
Top honors on Friday typically go to ABC's Shark Tank, but the reality competition was down sharply from its year-ago premiere. It sank 45 percent among adults 18-49 to a 1.1 rating.
Some things make you wonder.
Harry Potter sucks. Good on ya ENB.
It's a kids book. And the movies are fun
I'm told by my Potter fan wife that the later ones aren't kids' books. Not elementary school-aged kids, anyway.
The last two are pretty brutal.
I think the books matured with the audience (and characters) by design so that kids who started reading them when they were 8 wouldn't have lost interest by the time she finished the series. Pretty clever.
Yeah, I'm a modest fan of the stuff although I never read the last book or saw the last movies. Some day.
But I have no interest in this... thing. I saw the beginnings of some video fluff and immediately closed it.
That and Emma Watson gets hot.
I was a young adolescent when they started coming out, had already read the hobbit, LOTR, Dune trilogy, etc. They just felt unserious in a lame and disengaging way to me.

?Ted Cruz ain't no cuck, will endorse Donald Trump, surrender shreds of dignity that remain to him.
The junior Senator from Texas sees the writing on the wall and has concluded that his big wager on a Trump loss might not pay off after all.
Makes you wonder how much the polls have actually shifted in Trump's favor
Precisely. Like every politician, he has one rock-solid principle that guides everything else he does.....re-election.
Glenn Beck's meltdown over this was probably more fun than anyone else's.
ENB being a better person for not taking a Harry Potter quiz is the weirdest dominant news story of a PM Links yet.
Up-thread John says he enjoys the Harry Potter movies, which is wonderful.
They are fun. Jesus not every movie has to be 2001 or The Searchers. There is a place for light entertainment.
I've never read the books. But the special effects in the movies were good. Also a good test of the home entertainment system.
I have never read the books either but the movies were okay
You should check them out.
You will not be disappointed. There's a fair bit of meat in them that never made it into the movie.
I read all the books and saw all the movies. (my daughter was a big fan)
They get worse and darker and less original as the series progresses. Too much reliance on deus ex machina.
It was just an unexpected admission, John.
Man, that euphemism is a real head-scratcher.
Wait....
I did enjoy a fair percentage of the movies.
I just thought the Harry Potter movies were really boring. Never read the books. My opinion is questionable, however, because I read Lord of the Rings several times as a kid, maybe once as an adult.
What's great is that all those comments in favor of ENB came in at the same time spontaneously, as yet another example of commentariat groupthink. It's just a celebration of contrarianism, which is the quintessential libertarian quality.
And yet outside of ENB, who I am not even sure claims to be a Libertarian, the reason staff are the least contarian group of people you could find. They all eat a good diet,, drive responsible cars or take mass transit, did what their teachers told them, always recycle when they can and so forth.
In my view you just leveled a terrible insult at the Reason staff.
"In my view you just leveled projected a terrible insult at the Reason staff.
I'll have you know the Reason DC office never recycles.
(Also yes, I consider myself libertarian.)!
ENB being ...the weirdest dominant
Whip me, beat me, with a rubber chicken!
One more point for ENB.
I thought you guys were starting up a Patreon account or something.
Donors at the $5 or more level get consistently on-time PM Links with real content.
All I want is PM links that Fist can't constantly first.
That'll be the $15 or more donor level. "Gets links 2.5 minutes before Fist does"
The scam is you'll need a bigger head start.
I would pay for that just to spite him. $50 gets you a drum of lube.
$100 gets you a circumcision practice dummy.
$150 gets you dinner with Warty. Warty is naked from the waist down, and it's a glass table.
I hope that includes the dummy and the lube too.
Oh, when Warty has dinner with you, there's always a dummy. And lube.
"If you look around the table and don't know who the dummy is . . . "
$250 gets you dinner with either Nick or Robby.
$500 gets you dinner with either Nick's jacket or Robby's hair.
For a buck, it's Nick's hair and Robby's jacket.
Warty is naked from the waist down, and it's a glass table.
I mean, I hear he squats quite a bit. I'm always down to stare at some meaty legs.
$1000 gets you a Never Trump sign autographed by the entire staff...but you have to wait until Nov 9 because it's on Matts lawn.
Double that and you get a Cleveland Steamer.
All they have to do is permanently remove Robby from link duty.
He can spend more time telling us about the the next big thing lefties are hysterical about.
You won't believe #6?
Interesting election-analysis method outlined in WaPo.
His approach appeals to me because its similar to ad-hoc approaches i've taken in modeling/forecasting:
- create 'categories' from inputs, and reduce each category to a net binary "+/-" score (*do they provide a net positive, or a net drag); he doesn't then weight each category, but just adds them up
What I *really* like about his approach is 1) his disregard for the main tool the media relies on: polling / approval ratings ... and 2) his inclusion of contextual drivers like "scandal, social unrest, military failure", etc.
a weaker 3) is his willingness to inject some personal subjective assessment of the character of the people involved. Character *matters*; reducing it to a net "+/-" is probably the best approach one can take without being too armchair-psychoanalytical.
I think its also interesting that most of the media-driven Trump-scaremongering-stuff has little bearing on this model, which is really more an analysis of whether an incumbent power will retain control.
*Footnote = despite his insistence that his model isn't affected by polling... a month ago, he said it favored Clinton
not sure what changed.
It really predicts a generic Republican victory. Even I would say that Hillary would likely lose to any non-cretinous Republican.
Every election year there are guys like this who have predicted the last 7 or 8 or whatever by some cockamamie model, and then lots of them fail and we don't hear about them again.
Every election year there are guys like this who have predicted the last 7 or 8 or whatever by some cockamamie model, and then lots of them fail and we don't hear about them again.
If only such standards were applied to climate science...
Climate science is more descriptive than predictive. Maybe one day you'll understand this blindingly simple concept.
That has literally no bearing on what I said.
Maybe one day you'll be intelligent and honest. But I won't hold my breath.
Climate science is more descriptive than predictive.
Well, the models are garbage so I guess that's true.
This is true. It's a good thing prediction isn't important for science or anything.
If it isn't predictive it isn't even a worthwhile statistical model, much less something worthy of being called a science.
What's interesting is the guy is a hard leftist, but predicts Trump winning. That's tough for most people.
You should also read my take on the safe space debate at the University of Kentucky
The link leads to an article about an incident at the University of Kansas.
Those flyover states are basically the same.
The University of Kansas mascot is the Jayhawk and the University of Kentucky logo looks like a pair of Jayhawks so it's easy to confuse the two.
How to be more empathetic
Americans are more and more likely to surround themselves ? in person and online ? only with people whose perspectives match their own
Yeah, but surely POV porn must counteract a lot of that.

No One Likes Clinton: But Its Their Own Fault, Because She's Awesome
More or less the same "People are so MEAN to her!!" accusations, plus apologia for her robot-persona that you're read a million times @ NYT/WaPo/CNN, etc.... but it did contain this gem =
Hillary Clinton had sex?
(Well, maybe the colleague was Huma....)
She did, and with Webb Hubbell?
Chelsea is pretty solid evidence of that affair.
She looks more like Webb with every passing year.
I thought the theory was that it Webb and Bill's affair that produced Chelsea. I thought the question of Chelsea's parentage was always on Hillary's side of the equation.
Fat shamer!!
Hillary Clinton had sex?
And then she wiped it with a cloth.
Wait until she finds out someone called her a cunt.
...whut?
Okay, I had to go to the WaPo article to confirm, as this quote sounds like something one of you twisted shits would make up.
And the quote is actually in the article. This is the funniest thing I've read during this whole presidential campaign. Does Clinton get a point for this in the "not stable enough to serve as president" column?
No, she already has the maximum possible score from her 'why aren't I up by 50 points?' rant.
Add hearing aids to the fucking list of medications/devices this woman needs to simply exist.
Johnson narrows Overton Window
"...During a debate at May's Libertarian convention, Johnson was the only candidate of five to raise his hand when asked who supported the Civil Rights Act and the concept of driver's licenses. He has come out against "religious-freedom" bills that he's said would legalize anti-gay discrimination. Johnson told me he was against the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision ("I don't believe corporations are people") and for a revenue-neutral carbon tax to combat climate change (though he would later reverse himself...). There had also been an eye-opening moment on the streets of Cleveland during the Republican National Convention, when we'd been walking behind a cigarette-wielding Ohioan. As the smoker's exhaust wafted in our faces, I remarked offhand that?with the advent of e-cigarettes?I thought there was a good libertarian case for banning regular cigarettes. "I do too," replied the health-obsessed triathlete, recounting his support for anti-smoking efforts in New Mexico. Johnson's views on other issues, meanwhile, betray a basic centrism?against affirmative action but supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement, philosophically in favor of the death penalty but against its use in practice, pro-Second Amendment but open to legislation to keep guns from suspected terrorists and the mentally ill."

TL;DR x2
How's this:
"He has come out against "religious-freedom" bills.... Johnson told me he was against the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision...and for a revenue-neutral carbon tax to combat climate change (though he would later reverse himself...)....I thought there was a good libertarian case for banning regular cigarettes. Even better:
"against "religious-freedom" bills.... against the...Citizens United decision...and [temporarily] for a revenue-neutral carbon tax to combat climate change....[thinks there's a] good libertarian case for banning regular cigarettes....supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement...against [the death penalty's] use in practice...open to legislation to keep guns from suspected terrorists and the mentally ill."
You want it even shorter:
Johnson:
screw those first two amendments
carbon tax oops never mind
ban cigarettes
yay BLM
no executions
Even shorter summary of Johnson's views
🙁

Tevor Noah Accidentally Applies Reason: Inadvertently Explains Why Gun-Free Zones Don't Work
"Noah mocked the store owner for a little bit, but then he moved on to the meat of his opening bit by mocking the man's rationale for his "Muslims Get Out" sign:
The mistake here may be in assuming that anyone on the left - much less the media - experiences the smallest cognitive dissonance when confronting their own glaring hypocrisy. They have too many mechanisms in place to avoid thinking.
Riiiight. Because the left don't love 'signs'.
Well they had that 5-Man Electrical Band song.
Signs Signs Everywhere A Sign

Damn yinz's nimble fingers.
I love it when gun control types explain that gun violence in Chicago is due to guns coming in from elsewhere. I ask: Why there isn't as much gun violence from those guns before they make it to Chicago?
Andrew Cuomo Reacts to Corruption Charges Against Lifelong Family Advisor and Aide =
"I am shocked - SHOCKED - to find that impropriety is going on here"
(your winnings, governor)
I enjoy watching rats react to other rats.
Someone should do a lab experiment.
+1 King Rat
ALL PRAISE TO PREET BHARARA
The power plant they are building was protested by actor James Cromwell, which resulted in this lovely photo.
I haven't seen this much corruption at the state (and city) levels in decades. Say what you will about Pataki, Bloomberg, and Giuliani but at least they made it out relatively unscathed and without leaving a trail of rekt lives behind them.
Every time a scumbag like that gets busted you just know all of their scumbag buddies' assholes clench up tighter than a skeeter's ass and they thank god it wasn't them.
Once again, Fruit Sushi needs to learn that punctuality and paying attention to detail will benefit your career and life.
You know it is a travesty that Injun didn't get one of those Macarthur grants.
This is better than anything I see coming out of those pencil necked geeks.
This was awesome!
Know what I am?
I'M A FUCKING LEPPO.
Half leopard, half hippo half ALL MAN.
That's what I am.
What's a Leppo again? *sticks tongue out side of mouth
I'm serious when I say McAfee would have been less embarrassing at this point.
That ad was better that anything Hollywood put in theaters this summer.
Gary Johnson would like you to believe he isn't a baby eater, but he's never gone on record saying he isn't.
You're a cunt face.
Robby, 4:30 est is too early for PM links anyways. I applaud your later links and I prefer them posted at random times.
Do you think Hillary loves us and wants us to be happy? Or does she hate us and want us to be miserable?
Has anyone ever read the condensed version of Road to Serfdom? Wondering if it's worth buying it.
How condensed?
"Socialism bad, mmmmkay?"
Condensed like me squishing your head.
ARE YOU GONNA HELP OR NOT?!
Immunity "handed out like candy" in Clinton Investigation
Immunity is typically a tool used to get corroborating testimony for a *known crime*; used often in white-collar cases or conspiracy prosecutions. No one should ever receive immunity unless you know that their testimony gives you evidence for a more-serious charge.
In the case of Clinton, it seems to have been used to do the opposite - to remove any possible leverage the state had, and guarantee the recipients would never have to testify.
In this case, they seemed to hand it out in advance, to erase potential leverage they already had over valuable witnesses.
Its a case study in how to cover up evidence while presenting the appearance of investigation.
Of course, immunity is not a pardon and can be revoked (although I'd assume testimony given under premise of immunity would be inadmissible). Not that I'd put money on the bureaucracy being held accountable.
What the shit?
How about - give us the goddamn laptop and the passwords or go to jail for obstruction of justice. Now.
That's what they would have done if they were pursuing convictions.
UK != KU
?Ted Cruz ain't no cuck, will endorse Donald Trump, surrender shreds of dignity that remain to him.
Senator Goofus (Cruz) stayed in the race too long and is now being forced to humiliate himself
Senator Gallant (Rand) quit with dignity in January and hasn't said much since.
Don't be like Senator Goofus, kids.
Senator Goofus (Cruz) stayed in the race too long and is now being forced to humiliate himself
To be fair, he was the only other person left that had a realistic chance of winning the nom; if he had won the thing, there wouldn't be a #NeverTrump movement. And Cruz the nominee would have fallen for media gotchas more than Trump, the "Republicans are Hitler" meme would have had more bite to it because Cruz is a SoCon, and Hillary would be coasting right now with an 8-12 point lead.
From the standpoint of "The GOP nominee sucks less than Hillary", I like the way this is currently playing out. Though I must reiterate, so that no one misunderstands me: I'm not voting for either of those dumbasses.
"would be coasting right now with an 8-12 point lead."
Interesting
Do you have a news letter I can subscribe to ?
Obama wants to take back the second biggest city in Iraq before he's out of office
*With someone else's army, of course!
Have cake, eat cake. Because Obama ended the war in Iraq. This is something different.
....the actual story is really more about the Iraqi army itself, and its failure to win the confidence or trust of the actual Iraqi population, who believes it to mostly be a tool of a Shia-run govt who sees them as potential opposition to be oppressed.
Its sort of a journalistic mush, between trying to tell the truth about Iraq's problems, while providing a fuzzy-bullshit narrative how Obama is somehow 'involved' but not really in control of anything (never mind 'responsible' for anything).
I understand that in this war that obama ended some US soldiers were the targets of chemical weapons yesterday.
"Although religion is not an issue in this year's presidential election, Hillary Clinton is by far the more religious candidate. What's more, hers is the more religious political party?even though atheists, agnostics and other religiously nonaffiliated Americans (the "Nones") now represent the largest bloc, replacing African-Americans, within the Democratic Party. To understand this seeming paradox, we first have to recognize that since its transformation in 1972 under another Methodist politician, George McGovern, the Democratic Party has advanced a righteous politics that mirrors the political righteousness of the United Methodist Church.
"Methodists have been zealous monitors of American morals since the middle of the 19th century when, as historian Nathan O. Hatch has written, Methodists operated "the most extensive national institution other than the federal government. [citation needed]""
"The events of 1972 inaugurate what I call the Methodist Moment in Democratic Party politics. That was the year McGovern won the party's presidential nomination?and, coincidentally, the year former Republican Hillary Rodham became a Democratic Party activist....
"What is truly astonishing is the way that the Democrats' planks on emerging culture-war issues echoed the (often more radical) stands adopted by the Methodists....
"...many of today's Nones have retained the Methodists' ethos of righteous politics while jettisoning the beliefs, behavior and belonging that made righteous Methodists Methodists in the first place...."
Self-righteous != Righteous
Well, I bet Ken (I think?) feels vindicated now.
Did anyone catch Netanyahu trolling the UN? It was beeeyoootiful. I mean, he was holding no punches. I happen to agree with everything he said. The UN is a piece of shit organization.
And then came this guy Obama with his bull shit appeals to 'cooperation' and 'multilateralism'. Of course, he sees no problem with go around Congress to attack countries.
What a shit show the UN is.
And then came this guy Obama with his bull shit appeals to 'cooperation' and 'multilateralism'. Of course, he sees no problem with go around Congress to attack countries.
Or passing a major, disruptive piece of legislation with dirty tricks and not a single opposition party vote in favor. "Cooperation" is his word for "let's you and me do what I want."
I like to refer to the UN as the League of Nations.
It's like when an airline changes its name after a crash.
Jewett Williams update
"HODGDON, Maine ? On Saturday, the cremated remains of a Civil War veteran will be laid to rest next to his parents at the Hodgdon Cemetery, ending a months-long trip from an Oregon hospital to Maine....
"Williams was born here in 1843, but his ashes were discovered at the Oregon State Hospital, where they had been stored for nearly 100 years after he died there in 1922. They have since traveled across the country with a group of Patriot Guard Riders who handed the remains off from one set of motorcyclists to the next.
"A small ceremony was held in Augusta when Williams' ashes arrived in the state. It was then announced he would be traveling farther north to the family cemetery in Hodgdon, which drew criticism from a group of Mainers who had preferred Jewett be buried in Togus National Cemetery in Chelsea. But officials with the Maine Bureau of Veterans Affairs agreed with relatives of Jewett that his remains should be buried next to his mother and father in Hodgdon.
"He will be arriving in Houlton with a police escort from the Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, Maine Patriot Guard Riders and the United Veterans Motorcycle Club at about 1 p.m. Saturday. The Houlton Police Department and Maine State Police will join the procession...and proceed through downtown Houlton before heading to Hodgdon."
I love you ENB.
Patronus, huh. You know what that is, right? ITS A FUCKING ASTROLOGICAL SIGN.
Stuff I'm listening to today:
Gabor Szabo
Have you always wanted Hungarian folk music to be more soul-jazzy and psychedelic? Duh! who HASN'T??
Fe La Soul
a De La Soul/ Fela Kuti mashup
since the 2004 'Grey Album' - where Jay-Z's Black Album was mashed w/ the Beatles White Album - there have been a billion-and-a-half attempts at the same, most resulting in barely listenable hybrids which ended diminishing the reputation of both ingredients.... (see "Keith Floyd" - Kool Keith Meets Pink Floyd - for a case-study in bad-ideas) ...
... in this particular case - the cutesy title-mash aside - it works well enough that you don't really give a shit about the conceptual pretensions, and it just sounds like De La with some rootsier grooves, which is never a bad thing, really.
Does he have an entry in Tobin's Spirit Guide?
Hungarians have weird names.
There's a hungarian editor @ Car & Driver named Csaba Csere, and its pronounced something like "Cheeba Cheeba"
In Chinese cheeba cheeba means "penis, penis".
He would be popular with the ladies, i assume.
"Chuba Cheda" if I'm not mistaken.
Hey, you fucking orphan-slavers, did you know businesses LOVE higher minimum wage?
Not shocking, they are left-leaning like Tamerlane was slightly crossed when cities resisted him.
"Growing gelato company he runs"
Somehow I believe I could run a better and fast growing gelato company than him. And I technically work for the federal government for Christ's sake.
James Boettcher of Fiasco Gelato supports businesses providing a living wage, but suggests there should be a reduced rate for teenagers.
Apparently I can start by fixing teenage unemployment.
Which is basically saying, "I don't understand the minimum wage in the first place", which largely applies to teenagers and people working part-time.
Sure = "raise the minimum wage", but create lots of exceptions so that all you're doing is creating lots of red-tape regulation of what businesses pay their employers and has absolutely zero benefit to anyone.
Appropriate name for the business.
Poster child for why H&R commenters suck: armchair "libertarian" who works a government job thinks he's qualified to tell an actual entrepreneur how to run his company because they like to daydream about being CEO of a successful company in The Land of Make-Believe.
Poster child for why H&R commenters suck: Self-righteous moron lectures people about the life experiences they imagine their opponents had while knowing nothing about them.
The last I checked libertarians did not have a problem with the soldiery, better make sure to tell all these guys you don't want their support.
And under further review I really work for the Queen.
Am I the only one who feels as if Mark Cuban is exactly the same as Donald Trump?
Cuban is far more fiscally sound than Trump.
Cuban should be supporting the Libertarian in this election, but he's apparently into crony capitalism, too.
Okay, okay, the links are mostly late because everybody in the Reason office was taking this quiz to figure out what our Patronuses (Patroni?) would be. Mine is a rattlesnake, which is awesome. Stephanie Slade's is a raptor (bird). Katherine Mangu-Ward's is a wolf. Elizabeth Nolan Brown remains embarrassingly ignorant of Potter lore, and declined to participate.
This is a dumb use of the quiz. The real question would be who would have Rape Horse (SUPER NSFW) as a Patronus, Warty or STEVE SMITH.
Turns out that in addition to turning out cutting edge research into the syllabi of STEM classes, UND is also going off the racist rails. TWO racist instagram pics in 48 hours!!!!
Campus police are investigating.
The blur on those four Hitlers' faces is a nice touch.
Is that "blackface" or four women in seaweed masks? Or are they saying that adding "Black lives matter" makes it racist?
I find this difficult to believe.
The liberals over at the ACLU did. But then there actually was a time before "liberals" meant "anyone of the left".
Communists and liberals were never exactly the same thing in reality. Kinda the antithesis, really.
Happy Friday everyone
I'm a badger.
You aren't fooling me. You are a sock puppet.
Comedy Sketch premise: Hogwarts Student with a sock puppet that they keep telling everyone is their Patronus.
That was just a Tony typo.
He thought he was on Yahoo chat and claiming to be a 'bad gerl'.
It's my understanding the board furry position is already filled.
I'm with her.
I'll wait til I know what her knowledge is of Peter Lorre before dishing out the praise.
My RAPESQUATCH trumps all your weak ass patronii!
I made a Team USA funny this morning.
Which is not the same as Peter Lore.
Crusty.
Maybe she hasn't been to England.
I zagged, bro.
Well, I have the chronic masturbator part down. Not that into Nightmare Before Christmas.
YAS.
Sigh.
One day we'll see that sort of sentiment in one of the names we're allowed to vote for.
Sounds like my kind of review!
