This Iowa Professor Thinks Herky the Hawk Mascot Promotes Violence, Discrimination
Herky's face ' conveys an invitation to violence.'

A professor at the University of Iowa has a problem with its sports mascot, Herky the Hawk: he looks too angry, and if delicate students are exposed to images of a fake scowling bird, they might just kill themselves.
Pediatrics Professor Resmiye Oral wrote to the athletic department to request that Herky be given a different expression. "Herky's angry, to say the least, faces conveying an invitation to aggressivity and even violence are not compatible with the verbal messages that we try to convey to and instill in our students and campus community," she wrote, according to The Iowa City Press-Citizen.
She later said that Herky's currenty expression is "against the nonviolent, all accepting, nondiscriminatory messages we are trying to convey through campus."
Here is Herky the Hawk.
To be absolutely clear: No students are actually expressing fear, depression, or a desire to hurt other people because they are triggered by Herky. Only one person thinks this might be a problem: Oral.

They could've used some of that aggression when they got the corn-speckled shit kicked out of them by Stanford at the Rose Bowl last year.
A redesign is in order because hawks don't have teeth.
So people are triggered by aggressive looking mascots now? Jesus....*takes a drink*...
You know who else from Iowa was considered too aggressive?
Hitler?
Iowa Hawk?
Radar O'Reilly?
I was going for Secretary of War George W McCrary. He was a bit of a cunt towards the natives. But your answer made me chuckle.
Captain Kirk, of course.
Slipknot?
I just took a drink. Buffalo Trace Bourbon.
Come to think of it, that buffalo on the bottle is triggering me. Shit! I'm feeling both violent and scared!
*clears throat*
Go fuck yourself with a rusty hammer!
First they came for the ethnic caricatures...
She must ^h^h^h
Nah... too easy.
I'd be angry too if I had to deal with idiotic faculty like that.
Resmiye Oral
2nd best porn name ever?
Ironically, she's the Pele of anal.
+1 Robot Gary
Probably shouldn't be attending sporting events.

"Good one, Perfessor. I haven't laughed so hard since since Gibney snapped the ball ,over the punter's head and cost us a safety."
even Iowahawk thinks the issue is too stupid to comment further on it
Holy Jesus...
Has she seen football? Or football enthusiasts?
Why in the world would a sports team want a mascot that seems aggressive? Sports mascots should convey a message of calm passivity and acceptance.
"And consensus. We should decide who 'wins' by consensus. Competition is bad for one's aura."
"against the nonviolent, all accepting, nondiscriminatory messages we are trying to convey through campus."
I've got bad news for her: humans are predators. We made it through the past 200,000 years by killing things and eating meat. We have made almost every animal you can think of into pets or tools. All sports are inherently violent--one team wins, the other loses, based on physical combat (football, soccer) or direct comparison (running).
If a campus really were "all accepting" then why the canceling of speakers, the safe spaces, the violent protests?
Just because you use a bunch of words does not mean those words relate to reality.

Herky's face ' conveys an invitation to violence.'
The University of Iowa professor is right. The hawk is a symbol of war. It kills doves. It is a predator. Does anyone from the University of Iowa really want that as a mascot? Of course not. There are other mascots to emulate, such as a corpse, a dodo bird, and pansies. IU should lead the way in passive and non-violent mascots and re-name them with such colorful and unforgettable names as "The Turds," The Used Tampons," "The Fartbenders," The Stalin Worshippers," "The Useful Idiots," or "The Bleeding Nipples." Such new mascots would only be welcomed with considerable admiration and respect among the enlightened in the academic community. Other institutions of higher re-education will follow suit and re-name their re-education camps in accordance with political correctness and the wise diktats of the over-educated useful idiots who run said camps. One can only look in awe as these institutions are re-named with such strength and force that such symbols as hawks will become a faint memory, barely visible in history books. So let us congratulate this professor in showing her infinite stupidity and her implacable ignorance in IU traditions and school spirit.
I vote we make the professor change her name to Anal.
I grew up in eastern Iowa and I just can't ... I mean... holy crap.... Seriously, where is Kerry Howley?
Fortunately, I went to Iowa State.
It's enough to put me off Oral...
University of Iowa is apparently NOT the University of Chicago
Also, isn't Iowa the University that painted the visitor's football locker room pink? I hope they also installed trigger warnings for the opposing team as they enter.
Yes. And we have a protester for that too! Some douchebag proggie who thinks said locker room is homophobic. He was on IPR whining about the flak he was getting.

You ought to see the expression on the Nittany Lion's face when he showers with 10 year old boys.
So she's saying a scowling bird might rile up the minorities?
It could be worse, Professor Oral. Just imagine if you were teaching at Notre Dame...
Y'all seen this bitch? She looks like George Washington. With scary eyebrows.
"Great scott!"
I don't even know what that's supposed to be.
It's Count Olaf.
Here's your chance to say "Wouldn't".
*waits patiently*
It's Dr. Emmet Brown.
