The parents of two Americans killed in Benghazi are suing Hillary Clinton.
Too big to prosecute. Haven't they heard?
Hello.
"The parents of two Americans killed in Benghazi are suing Hillary Clinton."
Awesome. Brave. Let's hope they make it to Friday.
No, some judge is just going to tell them they have no standing and no one will ever cover that they tried to sue.
"...no one will ever cover that they tried to sue."
I think you're being a teensy weensy cynical here. The link goes to CNN, after all.
Suits are civil actions and can be brought by anything legally a person. Prosecution is the purview of government, at least in the US (UK allows private prosecutions).
Yeah, but too big to find against doesn't have a ring to it.
Dammit!
Suits are civil actions and can be brought by anything legally a person.
I've heard statutory violations of the law apply without intent too. Tell me another one.

Law.
to institute legal proceedings against (a person).
to seek to enforce or obtain by legal process.
to conduct criminal proceedings in court against.
I'm sorry, but the definition here makes it clear that filing suit in civil court here does in fact meet the requirements for using the word prosecute.
Even in the US.
Hey, it was "no reasonable prosecutor", not "no reasonable plaintiff"!
More than 50 Republican foreign policy and national security experts have signed a letter denouncing Donald Trump.
If they're such experts on security, how do we know about it?
By the bodies left in their wakes?
Je de'nounce!
I always suspected you're one of those Canadians.
Trump Derangement Syndrome, they are delusional if they think Trump cares or is going to do anything with this knowledge. Hillary can actually be made an argument for leaking info for the right price or by the right carelessness.
The Commission on Presidential Debates is reportedly telling the venues that will host the debates this fall between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to prepare to include another lectern for a third-party candidate.
Complete with a trap door.
...into the tiger pit, and...
*ROAR*
*screams*
LOL
"Governor Johnson, what is your favorite color?"
"I don't know...."
/defers to Weld.
"Mrs. Clinton, what is it like being a strong, independent woman?"
"Mr. Johnson, what do you think of strong, independent women?"
"Mr. Trump, please kill yourself, monster. MONSTER!"
"Mrs. Clinton, what is it like being a strong, independent woman?"
Clinton: "Sorry, I was having a seizure and missed the question. Also, could someone please help keep me standing upright?"
^THIS.
And I doubt that Johnson will have the presence of mind to bring up Harriet Tubman, Margaret Thatcher, or anyone who's not a died-in-the-wool leftist woman.
Complete with a trap door? Look who doesn't know the difference between a lectern and a podium. A podium is what you stand on, a lectern is where you put your note cards.
"Podium" comes from the Latin "podia", the same place we get octopus (eight-legged sea creature) and podiatrist (a doctor who sees feet) and podunk (something too insignificant to see) so obviously "podia" means "to be seen" - you stand on a podium so people can get a good look at you.
"Lecturn" comes from the Latin "lecta", the same place we get lecture (a talk nobody pays attention to) and electricity (an invisible force) and intellect (an imaginary idea of brain power) so obviously "lecta" means "to not be seen" - when you're standing on a podium so people can get a good look at you, you have a lecturn in front of you so they can't see you have your pants unzipped and your dick hanging out.
See? You learned something new today, didn't you?
Come to HnR for the academic discussion, stay for the dick jokes
Those are separate things?
"Academia", from the Latin for "without a covering for the penis."
+1 Latatian etymology
"you have a lecturn in front of you so they can't see you have your pants unzipped and your dick hanging out."
I'm guessing Huma will be sure Hitlery's lectern is substantial.
No, no, is Greek! From the Greek Podion.
No, no, is Greek, too. From the Greek Elektra.
Now excuse me while I get some Windex.
The Commission on Presidential Debates is reportedly telling the venues that will host the debates this fall between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to prepare to include another lectern for a third-party candidate.
I'm guessing we'll be including the one that won't draw votes from Clinton's pool.
Are you just trying to bait Welch into descending into the comments to point out GarJo is pulling more from Clinton according to some polls?
Welch is a lost cause. Editors-at-large weren't so naive back when Welch was in charge.
And Editors-at-large used to be larger.
GarJo? He's GayJay!
Much ado about NOTHING.
There will be no 3rd party candidate on stage, and Hillary is going to be President.
Don't get your hopes high.
I have read that Obama won every state that did not require voter ID getting well over 100% of registered voters in many districts and lost every state that did require voter ID.
It's gonna be hard to beat Clinton. The Democrat party always seem to find an extra box of ballots when a race is close.
My state voted for Obama and requires ID. Sorry, it'd fit the narrative, but it ain't true.
prepare to include another lectern for a third-party candidate.
The lectern must be polling above 15%
Clint Eastwood's Empty Chair 2016!
They need something bigger.
Like an empty SOFA!
A mattress would work, too.
Or a Porta-Potty.
I can't rape in a porta potty. You think I'm STEVE SMITH?!
*My first STEVE SMITH joke.*
Can't or won't?
6 out of 10. You didn't use all caps. Stick the landing next time. Hit the showers. *pats straffinrun on ass in a non-Sandusky way
Do you want Hillary to haul around the mattress on stage like that Columbia rape mattress student?
Delicious lask of self-awareness from Vox: Women legislators sponsor more bills, pass more laws and send their districts more money.
But those are things they like.
The Trump Riots That are Mostly My Fault
...In the future, the media will kill famous people to generate news that people will care about. ? The Dilbert Future (May 1997)
Three months later, the media chased Princess Di into a tunnel and created a dangerous situation that killed her but was terrific for television news ratings. The media didn't plot to kill anyone, but they created a situation that made it likely someone important would die because of the way their business model works. That was the basis for my prediction.
Fast-forward to today and we see the media priming the public to try to kill Trump, or at least create some photogenic mayhem at a public event. Again, no one is sitting in a room plotting Trump's death, but ? let's be honest ? at least half of the media believes Trump is the next Hitler, and a Hitler assassination would be morally justified. Also great for ratings. The media would not be charged with any crime for triggering some nut to act. There would be no smoking gun. No guilt. No repercussions. Just better ratings and bonuses all around...
Media isn't a thing, it's an act of consumption. I suppose you can blame media consumers for creating the demand that created suppliers who created a dangerous situation, but that seems a couple steps removed from attributing realistic guilt so why not just blame the drivers involved? I'm all for thumping the chattering class for its many, many failings, but nebulizing a problem does nothing to solve it.
Venezuela's Nicol?s Maduro Looks to a Marxist Spaniard for an Economic Miracle

Ours is a pig shoot dog society.
Yeah, that'll go well.
He's right about one thing. Given the direction in which he's headed, salvaging the country will take a miracle.
Future news from Venezuela: Marxist economist ideas would have worked except for some extremely bad luck.....
FTFY.
Who could have predicted this entirely predictable outcome?!
That works for both responses.
Bad luck:
extremely bad luck and ***choose one of the following***:
a) Greedy capitalists
b) Meddling from the United States
c) Not doing socialism hard enough
d) TRUMP!!
e) All of the above
Because Spain is doing so well?
Socialism is the perfect nexus of evil and stupid.

Trump Is Testing the Norms of Objectivity in Journalism
...It would also be an abdication of political journalism's most solemn duty: to ferret out what the candidates will be like in the most powerful office in the world.
It may not always seem fair to Mr. Trump or his supporters. But journalism shouldn't measure itself against any one campaign's definition of fairness. It is journalism's job to be true to the readers and viewers, and true to the facts, in a way that will stand up to history's judgment. To do anything less would be untenable.
I imagine a bunch of laughing and backslapping when that was edited before publication.
I thought it was a MSM journalist job to fawn over whatever Democrat is running while occasionally throwing a bone to any Republicans who criticize other Republicans who doesn't follow liberal orthodoxy
And taking occasional, impromptu potshots at libertarian strawmen.
Do they really believe this tripe?
Hey, what do you have against tripe?
/haggis
Testing the norms of Objectivity. That is pretty fuckin' funny. So, finally an open admittance that they see themselves and act as kingmakers.
They must drag Herself across the finish line. Because vagina.
Hillary being dragged across the finish line by her vagina is not an image I'm ready for at 10:00 a.m.
Okay then, mutton flaps.
It clearly IS or you wouldn't be reading the same comment section frequented by SugarFree.
Aren't these the same reporters who told us four years ago that objectivity was "false equivalency," and that the horrible neofascist racist homophobe xenophobic religious-zealot warrior-against-woman Mitt Romney was lying so much about Obama that no respectable journalist could even pretend to maintain the fiction of objectivity, but was compelled to openly take Obama's side?
And before that, the existence of a Romney campaign, "tested the norms of objectivity in journalism".
And before that, the existence of a McCain campaign, "tested the norms of objectivity in journalism".
And before that, the existence of a Bush campaign, "tested the norms of objectivity in journalism".
And before that, the existence of a Dole campaign, "tested the norms of objectivity in journalism".
And, well, you get the picture.
It's bullshit all the way down!
"It is journalism's job to be true to the readers and viewers, and true to the facts, in a way that will stand up to history's judgment."
SUUUUURE it is.
Exactly. What's worse, selling the nation out to its enemies for money and (in all likelihood) routinely murdering semi-innocent people, or being mean on the internet?
Every Time the Democrats Fix It...
Warning: Derp Ahead
What's the best rebuttal to that?
It ostensibly makes no sense such an interventionist, paternalistic party with a natural distaste for enterprise and progressive bull shit would *fix* unemployment. Makes me wonder if the policies of the preceding government impacts the one that follows is at work.
The best rebuttal is that the chart proves nothing, particularly when the numbers are increasingly gamed with each passing administration. It's a Rorschach test.
What's the best rebuttal to that?
So, after Reagan, Lee Harvy Oswald is single-handedly responsible for the most precipitous drop in unemployment?
Redraw the graph with the party that controlled the legislature, not the presidency.
Ask the honest question of which group affects employment more.
Alternately:
This graph shows decline under Reagan, and increase under Kennedy.
The economy is cyclical. Who knew? And nothing changes except who is president.
And when you consider what was actually happening, Reagan's term was most successful.
My reply is that policy doesn't show it's effect immediately. Incentives take time to develop.
I read that chart exactly backwards from whomever posted it.
Many Republicans donors are now more likely to give money to Hillary Clinton than to Donald Trump.
I'm starting to think the #NeverTrump message is getting a little muddled between the idea and the execution.
As if any further proof was needed that the GOP mainstream are basically no different than Democrats.
Your comment is probably the driest and funniest humor I'll come across today on the Internet.
On a scale of "unsecured mail server" to "taking bribes from foreign governments", how dangerous do they think he is?
err, posted that in the wrong place.
Is there going to be an execution??!! Oh goodie!

Harvard law prof: Saying at work that "Hillary Clinton shouldn't be president because women shouldn't work full-time" may lead to a harassment lawsuit
...According to Prof. Feldman, then, harassment law can require employers to suppress even speech criticizing a presidential candidate, if that speech expresses a sexist viewpoint. Indeed, nothing about Prof. Feldman's analysis turns on Clinton being a candidate ? if Clinton is elected, criticizing her actions as president on the grounds that her sex is causing her to act unsoundly would likewise help create a "hostile work environment." Employers would thus be obligated to suppress such criticisms by their employees or face the risk of massive civil liability.
But wait: Prof. Feldman's Hillary Clinton examples comes in a column that explains why the EEOC is right to order an investigation of a co-worker's displaying a Gadsden flag, even though it's not racist on its face ? according to the column (and the EEOC), the employer has to "investigat[e] ? the specific complaint's context to see if workplace racism was in play." This means that even if an employee complaints that a co-worker was criticizing Hillary Clinton without using overtly sexist arguments, but the employee perceived the underlying message as sexist, the employer would then have to investigate the "context to see if workplace [sexism] was in play."...
...Pro-Trump statements? Too dangerous for employers to allow, so long as someone perceives them as sending an implicitly anti-Hispanic or anti-Muslim message. (Prof. Feldman doesn't deny that such statements could require employer investigations, even if they are just "Vote Trump"; his response to "What if, [Volokh] asks, someone considers a pro-Donald Trump workplace symbol to be racial harassment?" is ultimately "Speech that's constitutionally protected elsewhere is restricted at work," and by this he means restricted by the government's coercive power and not just by private employer choice.) Anti-Clinton statements? Too dangerous for employers to allow. How convenient?.
So then pro-Hillary statements may be perceived as misandrist and sexual harassment, even if it is just "Vote Hillary".
criticizing her actions as president on the grounds that her sex is causing her to act unsoundly would likewise help create a "hostile work environment."
So, be civil, folks -- Just say she's simply acting unsoundly.
Sounds like Prof. Feldman is the one suffering in a hostile work environment.
I'll bet after some of those seizures, she sleeps pretty soundly.
Hey-ooo!
Wait, I have more:
"So, be civil, folks -- Just say she's simply acting unsoundly"
Kurtz: Are my methods unsound?
Willard: I don't see any method at all, sir.
She short-circuits when she gets hysterical.
At least we won't have to worry about bleeding from her wherever.
Who the fuck says that?
It is so tiring watching these left nuts pine for the glory days of the 60's when they had the good fight to fight. Agitators just don't have a good cause anymore so they have to pretend they do.
It's interesting to ponder what the reaction would be if a woman said such a thing.
Hold on folks.
In order to bring a sexual harassment suit, the first element that a plaintiff must prove is that the offending comments, conduct, etc., would not have occurred but for the plaintiff's sex. It is not enough for a plaintiff to say that she heard a negative comment about women. The plaintiff must prove that the comment was made because the plaintiff was female -- that is, that it was in some way targeted toward her.
Further, sexual harassment requires hostile or pervasive conduct that rises to an extreme level. Saying that a woman should not work full time is not extreme conduct. Indeed, in a case you may have heard of called Jones v. Clinton, the Governor of Arkansas dangling his penis in the face of a female state employee was held not to constitute extreme conduct sufficient to give rise to a sexual harassment case. How can statements about women working full time possibly be extreme conduct if sticking one's penis in a woman's face is not?
Simply put, this professor is full of shit. He is just like the professors who twenty years ago claimed that it would be "sexual harassment" for employers to allow employees to discuss Monica Lewinski at work.
Not according to the labor lawyer who recently conducted Harassment Prevention Training at my work.
He was adamant that all it took was someone being offended. Not the intent. He even cited cases he's worked where an employer shelled out millions because they whiffed their response to an incident that started with an innocent misunderstanding.
Careful there. The rules that your employer wants you to follow as an employee are not the same as the standards for a successful lawsuit.
An employer wants to avoid even the possibility of a lawsuit and also needs to show that it is very, very serious about preventing harassment. As a result, employer have an incentive to adopt workplace policies and rules that go beyond the legal definition of harassment and bar comments that even suggest the possibility of offense. That's why your company's HR department behaves like the Hayes Office of the 1930's and 1940's. Remember: your boss does not want to have to pay for the defense of a lawsuit even if it is a lawsuit your boss will likely win.
However, when it comes to actually incurring a "massive civil liability," a plaintiff needs to meet the higher legal standard.
Not according to this lawyer. He was citing cases.
I should point out that this is all taking place in the People's Democratic Commonwealth of Massachusetts - where the labor laws are freaking insane.
And when an attorney tells you about a case where an employer shelled out millions over an innocent misunderstanding, there is almost always something more to the case, usually involving a claim of retaliation against the complaining employee.
That's exactly what happened.
The guy who was the author of the original innocent act (an unwanted hug to congradulate her for exceeding some performance metric) was pretty pissed off to be hauled into the counseling session for essentially giving her the same "atta boy" he gave everyone else who did a good job..
Being their most productive manager he thought it was all unfair and his position was unassailable. And he started singing "you're a mean one mr grinch" whenever he was near the complainant. Also her other coworkers started giving her the cold shoulder for being an asshole.
She complained some more. They retaliated some more.
After six months she quit, went to a competitor, and sued.
To me, there should have been no grounds for a suit. She was a tone-deaf idiot who violated the cultural norms of the organization. He was a tone deaf idiot who tried to use social pressure to force her to comply with the cultural norms.
If either one had behaved as an adult, there would have been no problem. And, frankly, I think nothing that happened, no matter how insulting, cringeworthy or bothersome, amounted to a tort.
That's exactly what happened.

I hear you, but the other employees were idiots for behaving that way, particularly the Grinch singer. They handed her a lawsuit that she otherwise would not have had based on the initial inoffensive hug standing alone.
I cannot tell you the number of cases I have seen in my own practice where the alleged retaliation claim far exceeds the initial, preposterous claim of "harassment."
How can statements about women working full time possibly be extreme conduct if sticking one's penis in a woman's face is not?
This sort of thing only applies to the Clintons. The peasants are subject to some actual rules.
"The plaintiff must prove that the comment was made because the plaintiff was female"
If this is true then...
"dangling his penis in the face of a female"
I'm bisexual!! I would've dangled my penis in front of her face regardless of her gender!! I literally cannot sexually harass someone under these standards. Nothing I do can possibly be construed as sexual harassment because I'd just as easily do it to a dude.
Nope. You are still dangling in front of her because of her sex. Saying that you would do the same thing to a man because you're bi simply means that he can sue you too.
But if you claimed that you just enjoy dangling your penis regardless of who may be present, or because your penis reminds you of Trump's campaign logo, you might have something...
More than 50 Republican foreign policy and national security experts have signed a letter denouncing Donald Trump.
There's still only one person running for president right now that has actually, definitively endangered national security through negligence.
Are these the same foreign policy and national security experts who have supported the present policy of turning much of middle east into an anarchy (not the good kind) where terrorist and rebel groups thrive while leaving Europe and the USA open to attack with their open borders madness?
Yes
Jill Stein?
"Many Republicans donors are now more likely to give money to Hillary Clinton than to Donald Trump."
Well, in all fairness to these donors, Hillary has established a good track record of delivering on her promises to donors.
But, but, but, haven't the Democrats said that money in politics is evil?
So now Hillary is getting money from not only from semi-evil Democrat donors but super evil Republican donors!!!!!
I blame Pokemon Go.
Productivity declines for third straight quarter
"Productivity in the second quarter unexpectedly fell 0.5%, well below expectations"
Which explains the unexpectedness.

How Women Throw Themselves At Pro Athletes (And Vice Versa): A Publicist Explains
...An attractive married woman?she had a huge rock on her finger?came over and started hitting on my client immediately and relentlessly. After a while, her husband came out from the dance club area, clearly upset. He never threatened anything physical. He barely even raised his voice. He just wanted to know what she was doing. His wife played dumb. So my client spoke up: "Your girl is trying to fuck me."
The husband got into it a little with his wife. He wanted to leave. My client called over one of the bouncers and told him to get rid of the couple. The wife decided to stay. The husband got booted. He was irate. She didn't care. Five minutes later, my client was having sex with her in the back office of the club. She left, and he never talked to her again. Obviously, we have no idea what happened with the marriage.
Police: Mom poisoned her baby with teaspoon of salt to get husband 'back into her life'
Kimberly Martines was separated from her husband and desperate to lure him back into her life, so police say she hatched a plan to get his attention: It began with poisoning her 17-month-old daughter, Peyton.
She didn't use a household cleaner or pop open a bottle of pain medication, police told NBC affiliate WYFF. Instead, Martines, of Spartanburg, S.C., turned to a simple condiment found in almost any dining room: salt....

"Many Republicans donors are now more likely to give money to Hillary Clinton than to Donald Trump."
Sounds like Trump has done something right. These people obviously care more about keeping their gravy train going than anything the Republican party professes to believe, otherwise we'd be hearing at least about being more likely to donate to Gary Johnson. Looks like Trump is actually going to kick them out of power.
Yep. That is what TDS is all about. It isnt just the Pols either. The press is freaking out because he doesnt hesitate to call them on their bullshit, something they aren't used to.

...This is not a joke nor even an exaggeration. I just found out that my sister in law's other brother-in-law was arrested in Venezuela at the airport while trying to leave the country. His crime, he was an employee for a company that went out of business. Waiting for more? There isn't any. Maduro has decreed that any business that goes out of business has committed economic treason and its employees are subject to arrest. They had already arrested numerous owners and managers but this is the first time they went after rank and file worker bees....
The progs on my derpbook feed have been awful quiet about Venezuela the past week.
Mine have been awfully quiet about it for years.
Mine haven't. Venezuela is a victim of US imperialism.
I had one say it was over exploitation of their oil reserves, which is always Capitalism.
Incredible. Your friend may have heard of an industry term, it's a little technical and insidery but it's gotten some media play recently, it's called fracking? And we're swimming in oil? And gasoline prices have dropped under two bucks for the past couple years? Why in the world would anyone in government or industry want more oil? This is meant to be the party of smart, reasonable people and IFLS?
If you really want to explode some heads, tell them that the inflation-adjusted price of a gallon of gas in 1970 (36 cents) would be $2.24 today.
Inflation does not exist in real life ... When a person goes to a shop and finds that prices have gone up, they are not in the presence of 'inflation.'
That couldn't have happened. It sounds like something straight out of Atlas Shrugged, which, as is known, is the most unrealistic book ever.
Damn. Looks like not everyone get to Galt's Gulch. Some get arrested on the way there.
Sorry to hear that man. Can he bribe his way out?
Why was he trying to flee the country if he was innocent??

The Return of History?
Young people are less attached to democracy than their elders. "When asked to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 how 'essential' it is for them 'to live in a democracy,' 72 percent of those born before World War II check '10,' the highest value. So do 55 percent of the same cohort in the Netherlands. But ? the millennial generation has grown much more indifferent. Only one in three Dutch millennials accords maximal importance to living in a democracy; in the United States, that number is slightly lower, around 30 percent ? On the whole, support for political radicalism in North America and Western Europe is higher among the young, and support for freedom of speech lower."
Americans increasingly support an all-powerful executive. "In the United States, among all age cohorts, the share of citizens who believe that it would be better to have a 'strong leader' who does not have to 'bother with parliament and elections' has also risen over time: In 1995, 24 percent of respondents held this view; by 2011, that figure had increased to 32 percent. Meanwhile, the proportion of citizens who approve of 'having experts, not government, make decisions according to what they think is best for the country' has grown from 36 to 49 percent."
Support for popular sovereignty has declined especially quickly among the wealthy.
Well, my support for democracy is pretty fucking low, too, but that doesn't mean I like authoritarianism. A constitutional republic would be nice.
I'm not sure about democracy, but with social media being so ubiquitous there's definitely less respect for personal privacy. It's not a far slope from over-sharing every meaningless thought that goes through your head to believing that no one deserves to keep private things private.
All of these things are not the same.
If the current system is "democracy", then I don't support it either. Of course, it's a fucking sham.
Eh. I'm not really all that attached to democracy, persay. If my choices are a democratic state that has a state religion (majority chosen religion) and lacks freedom of speech and a totalitarian dictatorship that allows freedom of religion and freedom of speech, I'll take the totalitarian dictatorship.
To be fair, most instances of people assigning an importance of 10/10 to something just mean they don't understand normal distribution and aren't prepared to be asked something even scarier.
If I give a 10 to democracy and then the next question is "how important to you is not being raped by hundreds of angry gorillas every day?", then there's no real way to emphasize my distaste for gorilla rape since I already used the highest score on stupid democracy.

Putin should be careful -- charismatic supremacist leaders of defunct empires who destroy ailing democratic institutions in response to botched, possibly false flag coup attempts are not known for honorably keeping their bargains with Russia.
+1 Molotov-Ribbentropp
That was beautifully written, btw.
"It was one of the most anticipated swimming races of the Rio Olympics?and US star Lilly King backed up her fighting talk by defeating Yulia Efimova to win gold in the 100 meters breaststroke on Monday."
That'll learn those godless commie cheaters.
Lena the entrant from Norway was a very distant 3rd. When asked by the media about the race she said, "ya know, I don't want to complain, but I think those other gals used their arms..."
I thought it was obnoxious. I prefer hockey's tradition of knocking the shit out of each other and then happily shaking hands when finished.
Hockey truly is unique that way. They pulverize each other in the playoffs and then line up like professional gentlemen to shake hands. No storming off. No walking away. No excuses. Just pure sportsmanship.
Yeah, shut up and settle it in the pool. NBC was shameless in playing their part, too.

No, no! It should be Almanian! Or, if he really wanted to shake up the race, he could swap spots with Cthulhu on the Almanian/Cthulhu 2016 ticket.
I pointed out on his FB page that anyone voting for Almanian! needs to carefully consider who his VP pick is.
But I'm a horribly insensitive fuck.
Yes! Almanian!

"It seems like everyday we have more supposed Democrats getting all miffed that we are not treating Jill Stein like the delicate fine china she is. "
Still sexist to treat Hillary that way? Just checking.
OMG, that was delicious. Thanks.
Since she picked an unabashed Jew-hater as VP candidate, I figure she deserves all the shit people can throw at her. I am not caring much about the fecal source or motivation.
This sums up their totalitarian urges:
Good God, I hate millennials. Like? I realize it's maybe not but maybe it is a millennial but she writes with that verbal uptick? that means she's super self-assured about her opinions? except it sounds like she's asking for permission to continue? with every new clause? and she's taking the tough line on a website surrounded by people whose only disagreement with her is how much they want to hobble the economy?
1) It's bad to treat Jill Stein with kid gloves because no one is immune to criticism.
2) Regardless of her ideas, it's bad for Jill Stein to even be in the race because it hurts Hillary.
That sounds a goddamn lot like someone is immune to criticism.
Cotton: Clinton discussed executed Iranian scientist on email
Hillary Clinton recklessly discussed, in emails hosted on her private server, an Iranian nuclear scientist who was executed by Iran for treason, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., said Sunday.
"I'm not going to comment on what he may or may not have done for the United States government, but in the emails that were on Hillary Clinton's private server, there were conversations among her senior advisors about this gentleman," he said on "Face the Nation." Cotton was speaking about Shahram Amiri, who gave information to the U.S. about Iran's nuclear program....
How is this not a story? Now I hear that some family members of the dead Benghazi folks are suing Hilary on the grounds that her unsecured emails were intercepted and revealed their location. Not sure what evidence they have, would like to sit in for discovery on that case.
How is this not a story?
Tom Cotton is an unrelenting asshole, which is why it is not a story.
Now I hear that some family members of the dead Benghazi folks are suing Hilary on the grounds that her unsecured emails were intercepted and revealed their location.
I heard that, too.
Which makes him different from most Senators....how, exactly?
Not disagreeing with your sentiment by any means, don't get me wrong.
"Which makes him different from most Senators....how, exactly?"
I get what you're saying, but no. If most Senators are a 5 on the asshole scale, Cotton is a Spinal Tap like 11.
Then what the hell is Schmidt?
The what the hell is Chuck Schumer? Babs Boxer? Leahy?
Principals over principles. Got it.
The fuck is wrong with you people. Everything has to be qualified to meet your bitchy standards? Almost every senator is an asshole. Tom Cotton is an egregious asshole - and a right-wing one at that, and therefore he is ignored by many in the media, which is dominated by bias.
Do we feel better?
Didn't you hear? Trump is a danger to our national security.
The parents of two Americans killed in Benghazi are suing Hillary Clinton.

BLM Apologist Let's the Mask Slip (via the Derpbook): #Perspective Protesters don't block traffic to gain your support. They do it so you can see what it feels like to be stuck in a powerless situation. How do you respond to this situation? Are you calm and peaceful? Do you want to spend years organizing political talks about it? Nope, you want to run those protesters over, kill them, kill them all. If you want to kill protesters who have you stuck in traffice, imagine what you would want to do to a system that patrols, harasses and kills you. The sooner you learn perspective the sooner you won't have to be stuck in traffic.
Is this why people molested as children molest children themselves? So they know what it feels like?
I molested myself as a child. It didn't come out like I thought it would.
*sets fire to keyboard and walks away*
Nope, you want to run those protesters over, kill them, kill them all
Ah, so that's what's causing the huge uptick in vehicular homicides....wait, that isn't happening??????
It does make me feel more empathetic. For example, if I want to kill black people just from this one interaction, how much more homicidal would I be if I had to deal with them day in and day out like cops?
Paul Ryan Can't Win
Even if he wins his contested primary, on Tuesday, he runs the risking of losing the G.O.P.
More than 50 Republican foreign policy and national security experts have signed a letter denouncing Donald Trump.

From the letter:
If only Trump shared the same constitutional beliefs as that group.
4th Amendment? What 4th Amendment?
The same people who say that it is okay for the President to order the assassination an American citizen, and even though Obama did that I guarantee you those guys supported it and defended him, think that Trump is unfit to be President because he thinks it is a bad idea to let more Muslims into the country.
No matter what your opinion on the issues involved are, I don't see how you can't loath those guys. What a bunch of fucking phonies.
Keep in mind that Trump has denounced overseas adventurism. In their minds he intends to end the endless war. they think he is going to put them out of work.
You are right. There really is a bipartisan fusion party. And man do they hate Trump.
Yep.
Hillary is 3:1 favorite to win. These losers know they have no place in a future Trump Administration. By publicly opposing him, they have a shot for a position in or around the Hillary Administration.

NASA: Antarctic Sea Ice Reaches New Record Maximum
Sea ice surrounding Antarctica reached a new record high extent this year, covering more of the southern oceans than it has since scientists began a long-term satellite record to map sea ice extent in the late 1970s. The upward trend in the Antarctic, however, is only about a third of the magnitude of the rapid loss of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean....
Massive Increase In Arctic Sea Ice Over Last Year
Experts say that the Arctic is melting down.
The area of 1.5 meter (5 foot) thick ice in the Arctic has more than doubled over last year, and total volume has massively increased. The animation below shows only ice 1.5+ meters thick....
If I didn't know better I would think they were trying to pull one over on us.
So that video they showed at the Olympics of the vanishing ice packs was pure fiction?!?
Ima have to lay down. If you can't get good science from a Brazilian empresario, where can you get it?
NBC poll: Clinton finally cracks 50% in two way race, up 10 on Trump
Hillary Clinton now holds a 10-point lead over Donald Trump, 51 percent to 41 percent, according to results from the latest NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking poll
Clinton's double-digit lead is up from an 8-point gap last week. The 10-point margin is the biggest spread in the tracking poll since the two-way general election match-up was first compared in early May.
Clinton also holds a 6-point advantage in a four-way general election match-up at 44 percent, with Trump at 38 percent, Libertarian Gary Johnson at 10 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 4 percent.
Johnson is clearly hampering Hillary, not Trump.
I think you are right about that. It is also registered voters, which favors Clinton. If you take away the bias that results from polling registered versus likely voters and throw in Johnson, it is by this poll about an even election.
Anymore more gay cake talk from Gary and Hilary will lose another two points.
Filed under "Department of Who Cares." They are both evil fucks for whom I wouldn't shed a single tear if they were involved in a woodchipper accident.
Johnson is clearly hampering Hillary, not Trump.
1) One poll, with a large margin of error.
2) Since Stein is drawing 4% in this poll, it is possible that she is drawing almost exclusively from people who selected Clinton in a two way matchup. You'd need to see the numbers from a three way matchup -- Clinton - Trump - Johnson -- to conclude whether Johnson was drawing unevenly.
3) You could conclude Trump is hampering Johnson. Just sayin'.
What happens if they all hamper each other and the election gets thrown to the House? I really hope it happens.
Who will win? Given how much Trump is disliked, there is no guarantee that it will be an automatic partisan win for Trump.
That would be sweet. It would be a real-life version of that red button meme where the Republicans have to choose between "Make Trump President" or "Make Hillary President".
Actually, they don't have to vote for either; Article 2, Section 1, sub para 3.- defines that the Preezy is selected from the top 5 vote getters.
Muslims Demand Polygamy In Response To Same Sex Unions
Told you polygamy is next. And it won't be just for Muslims, 'cause that would be discriminatory.
I'm cool with that.
I would prefer the state get out of marriage as opposed to expanding the number of licenses.
Sure, but if they are forced to license everything it has a similar effect.
No, no it doesnt.
Because the ability to withhold a license still exists.
Sure, which is why I said similar, not identical.
Polygamy has the advantage of being traditional, unlike same-sex marriage.
There is no argument to include the latter without the former.
Polygamy has the advantage of being traditional,
like child brides.
Yes.
I never claimed tradition was a good thing.
But polygamy is both traditional and voluntary (in theory).
Child brides, not so much.
However, even there, maybe. When I lived in Wisconsin there was a controversy. A judge tried to get a guy charged with statutory rape because he took a 14 year old to South Carolina to get married, where it was legal. Her parents went along.
IIRC, WI was forced to acknowledge the marriage and drop the charges.
It is also totally unsustainable for a society. Math is a harsh mistress. It leaves men out of luck, which is not a good thing. It also greatly restricts the gene pool. Polygamy is one of the reasons why Arabs are so often the product of generations of cousin marriages. Cousin marriages are okay once, but do it repeatedly over generations and bad things happen.
You have to send the surplus men off to war. Which is another reason it is a problem.
Pretty much that. It is also why Islam embraces sex slavery. Send the men to war and let them enslave the infidel's women for sex. And if you don't think that can happen now, you are mistaken. ISIS does it right now.
Technology will solve the problem -- sex robots.
Or more men left for teh gays.
Unsustainable on a wide scale. You'd have a few rich or famous dudes with a bunch of wives and some devout muslims that would adhere to it, but the fact is, polygamy is a hard relationship to maintain when all the parties have equal rights. It wouldn't come anywhere close to being a mainstream form of relationship.
It wouldn't come anywhere close to being a mainstream form of relationship.
Oh, very well. Polygamy with *robots*.
This
That, or parallel social structures would be erected to ensure the parties in practice could only exercise those equal rights (as has often been the cases with polygamous sects in the US) at severe social cost. And then push to make that inequality the law of the land.
Ultimately the same problem with one child policies and people favoring male children. You wind up with a surplus of young men to send off to kill and/or die.
Women want polygamy and patriarchy. The average woman would much rather share George Clooney than have some random accountant all to herself.
You are so wise in the ways of women!
The average woman would much rather share George Clooney Longtorso Johnny(?) than have some random accountant all to herself.
That's what you meant.
"It is also totally unsustainable for a society."
It is also totally NECESSARY for societies, like older ones, where men outnumbered women GREATLY in workplace related deaths. Polygamy is designed specifically for societies where women outnumber men.
And the problems that polygamy would cause in a modern society disappear when simultaneously legalizing polyANDRY, which undoubtedly would be simultaneously legalized if polygamy was legalized in America.
Polygamy has the advantage of being traditional, unlike same-sex marriage.
There is no argument to include the latter without the former.
The argument, by Democratic politicians who actually could make this change, is "doing stuff for gays gets me votes. Doing stuff for icky polygamists costs me votes." Not that they phrase it out loud that way, because candor is for people not holding office.
There is no argument to include the latter without the former.
Sure there is. "Muh feelz!", which is the only argument that matters any more.
I don't see a problem with that.
And it won't be just for Muslims, 'cause that would be discriminatory.
I wouldn't bet too much on that. I can see the feds allowing/ordering it, but only for Muslims because long-established world religion multi-culti blah blah.
An inventor walks into a chemist's lab and says, "I have a great idea for a new product, but it's highly flammable. Do you have anything that will make it safe?"
The chemist grabs a bottle off the shelf and hands it to the inventor saying "Here, this should do the trick."
"My God, man, doesn't this cause cancer?" the investor asks, shocked.
The chemist shrugs his shoulders and replies, "Yeah, but it's asbestos I can do!"
I posted that last night but it's just too good to bury in a late night thread!

http://www.salon.com/2016/08/09/sorry.....-epidemic/
Salon actually gets something right. Great article on the foreclosure fraud epidemic. Of course, no one is doing anything about it because Wall Street owns the government and the people getting fucked are little people who don't matter.
Elizabeth Warren is doing something!
...cashing in!
I just wanted one judge somewhere to demand proper paperwork before signing off on the foreclosure.
Judge: "I know you are behind and SOMEONE, somewhere can claim your home, but until that someone presents legitimate paperwork, just stay where you are."
The banks fucked up and lost all the proper paperwork. So, the judges let it slide because doing otherwise would have made nearly all foreclosures impossible. That is great except that it opened the door for the banks to foreclose on anyone regardless of the validity of their claim. It is one of the least reported and most appalling stories of the last ten years.
Yes
Yes, and the solution was to hammer them on otherwise legitimate foreclosures at the start.
Foreclosures wouldnt have been impossible. Foreclosures for sloppy banks would have been impossible, but so fucking what?
Let those fuckers fail.
You robo-signed? touch shit, guess you better hope they decide to make their monthly payments anyway because they know its the right thing to do.
Generally the originating source of the mortgage had good paperwork. It was thru the reselling of the mortgages that stuff got shitty. So just have to rollback to the original...who in these cases probably doesnt even exist anymore.
I could not agree more Rob. But the government wasn't going to let that happen.
Too many pussy judges.
What, they didnt think they would win reelection if they hammered shitty banks?
We need more cases like this.
\
Sadly it looks like he dropped his suit against the bank later.
No threat of death from former KGB agents was ever substantiated.
The banks fucked up and lost all the proper paperwork.
For a lot of these houses, whole state's worth, they never had it. Robosigned documents and electronic transfers being invalid under several/many? states laws, which required wet ink signatures by an actual fiduciary.
However, when the scale of the legal problems the banks had created for themselves became apparent, state laws were changed, either overtly or de facto, to validate previously invalid documents.
"In this country," Soncco wrote, "no such person, no matter how much power they hold, should have the right to take or rob a family from their home without any just reason."
Unless the state is wooing a pharmaceutical company to build a plant there, in which case it's perfectly kosher.

Orlando Terrorist's Father Cheers at Hillary Clinton Rally; Calls For Gun Control
Some people don't know when to shut up.
No, no, let him speak. I think he is the perfect person to be associated with gun control. Maybe we can get him a spot on prime time. I'm sure he has well thought out things to say.
I don't know. Wouldn't he be the last person you want pushing your cause?
The way I see it, nut cases who go on rampages aren't an example of why you need gun control. A sensible, law-abiding person (gun owner or not) *should* calculate this is less rational and more designed to appeal to emotions.

The Secret Service and FBI are the best of the best.
No, that has to be photo shopped. Hillary micromanages her rallies way too much to let something like that happen.
The conspiracy begins...
I fully believe he was there. That's just too damn perfect of a photo for me to just accept it. If it's too good to be true it often is.
If this kind of thing could possibly injure her candidacy I would agree with you. But this is less than a speed bump for Hilbot.
But this is less than a speed bump for Hilbot.
Especially with the cordon of DemOp Media outlets escorting her to the White House, ignoring and burying all stories that might impede Herself's Royal Progress.
If a gaffe goes unreported on the campaign trail, does it hurt the candidate's poll numbers?
It could be photoshopped, but I think you give too much credit to people who work for her campaign - especially at events on the road - and the Secret Service. This easily could have happened.
Allegedly a reporter interviewed the guy after the event.
This is where we're at in America now! Team Hildog actually thinks it's a good idea to be associated with these guys.
You would think that most gays wouldn't be too thrilled about this, but the Scott Shackfords of the world are so unhinged they'll find a way to convice themselves that it's somehow Trump's fault.
Actually, it's this guy.
The progressive attack on religious freedom is bad news for Jews
"Do any Americans still understand the prohibition of discrimination as an exception, and a carefully hedged one, to the general rule of liberty? There is reason for skepticism?and nowhere more so than in the area of religious liberty. With the progressive left's success at passing laws or obtaining court rulings establishing gays as a constitutionally protected class and sanctioning same-sex marriage, the legal arena has shifted from race relations to one of the few remaining pockets of the private sphere that have so far remained relatively secure in (to quote Washington) their "liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship."...
"even Gary Johnson, the Libertarian party's candidate for the presidency, also embraces the contemporary view....Johnson invoked the supposed "principle that, when a business opens its doors to the public, that business enters into an implied contract to serve all of the public." Formerly, few Americans would have asserted that any such "implied contract" existed. But the new understanding of businesses as "public accommodations" has transformed our conception of private institutions and enterprises, for-profit and not-for-profit alike...."
We appreciate your concern trolling, Eddie. Your moral stance as a loyal member of a traditionally antisemitic organization certainly qualifies you to speak for us.
Don't worry, I am sure the Progs will treat you differently than the Catholics.
Damn, Rennie, that was beautiful.
No, it was stupid and just as collectivist.
Statistics tell part of the tale. In 2014, the latest period for which figures have been released by the FBI, Jews were the objects of fully 57 percent of hate crimes against American religious groups, far outstripping the figure for American Muslims (14 percent) and Catholics (6 percent). True, the total number of such incidents is still blessedly low; but what gives serious pause is the radical disproportion.
And yet our obsessive preoccupation with the ever-forthcoming, never-quite-manifest anti-Muslim backlash. Nope, nothing to see here.
I do have to wonder just how much antisemitic hate crime is from pissed-off Muslims or stupidly indignant college students.
"us"
Um, who the fuck are YOU to speak for me?
An avowed renegade is going to preach about respect for the Jewish people?
Sixties civil rights activists beg to differ.
Can someone tell me that an "implied contract to serve all of the public" means that a baker can be forced to decorate a cake any way that any customer wants? I am sure the baker would have provided for public accommodations by selling dozens and dozens of birthday cakes, pies, cookies, eclairs, etc. What makes a wedding cake inherently different from a birthday cake except for how it's decorated?
The ritual it is used for.
#ManyPeopleAreSaying: Hashtag Surfaces to Mock Donald Trump Citing 'Many People' as Source
Just because she mentioned his name as a US agent in emails that were on an unsecured server that was likely hacked and the guy ended up dead at the hands of the Iranians doesn't mean she is responsible. I mean come on. You put the name of one US agent on an unsecured email and after that guy winds up dead, people act like it is a big deal or something. Its just the special Hillary standard again.
Totes diff than Valerie Plame, John. Because, uhh, because. . . .
None of the other dozens and dozens of agents she exposed are known to have been killed. It's just a one off, no big deal.
He shoulda gone with the proven winner, "There are those who say..."
This guy doesn't like Gary Johnson
"But on most days, he wants the popularity that came easily to Bernie Sanders once he was embraced by the left. And so Johnson emphasizes how much he in common he has with Sanders hoping that the mindless flocks of Bernie supporters will stream to his campaign.
"They won't."
While I can't argue with a lot of the claims about how pandering and wishy-washy GJ can be, the headline and final assertion is a blindingly illogical premise. Basically the article says "Gary is running as a pure leftist. Therefore, he's going to take votes from Trump and make Clinton president!"
Nah, even if you subscribe to the dumb theory that the two parties are "owed" the vote of every single human, the best way to make Clinton president would be to pretend to be Ted Cruz, not Bernie Sanders.
The Prison System is a Violation of Human Rights
Our prison system is a national embarrassment.
Um, no. I've been here (H&R) for pretty much as long as there was a "here," and libertarians have consistently been critical of the prison-industrial complex, private prisons, overincarceration and the things that drive all of that (WoD, etc).

Too late to post in Robby's college SJW thread from last night but I wanted to share the History on Fire podcast on the life of Crazy Horse. Chinese tourist accidentally ends up in German refugee center
Wow, yeah, I'm guessing they aren't even claiming that they are screening for terrorists in Germany. Seriously, if something is so easy you can do it unwillingly by accident and it takes two weeks to convince them to let you go home, then there is no way they are doing any kind of checks on these people.
Easy to find him. The Chinese only rape in Nanking.
The Chinese only get raped in Nanking. Which is odd because Nanking doesn't have a large Muslim population.
Yes, I whiffed on that.

The list of suspicious deaths surrounding the Clintons. At some point the odds of this having an innocent explanation start to get pretty long.
It'll be interesting to see if there is any truth to all this. We should know in about 40-60 years when the Clintons are all dead and it won't affect any major parties anymore.
I find it very hard to believe that they are out whacking people like the mob. The fact remains, however, people keep dying. It just doesn't make any sense.
Witchcraft.
When would you believe?
When someone connected to it turned state's evidence or there was some kind of other evidence like a wikileaks email or something. Basically, something beyond just an amazing set of coincidences.
I think these people are evil, and I think they're stupid, but I don't think they're stupid enough to put hits in emails.
Nah, you keep family secrets close to your chest. Email is for state secrets.
I don't believe either of the Clintons is personally whacking people. But, if you have ruthless minions who know people with a ... specialized ... skill set who might read between the lines if one of the Clintons mentioned someone might do something inconvenient to them.
I personally would be very nervous if I had any dirt on the Clintons, and they knew I knew ...
It is well known that the Chicago Democratic Party has a close working relationship with the gangs in Chicago. It is unlikely that is the only big city where the Democrats work with the local gangs. So, it is entirely possible that people connected to the Clintons know the type of people who could do this sort of thing.
You really trust a gang not to fuck something like that up? Ok, shooting someone in the street, sure. Faking an "accidental death" or "natural causes", though? Those morons would probably do something stupid like leave a pillow on a guy's face after smothering him.
Gangs no.
The Mafia on the other hand...
Using gangs would ensure that someone would talk.
It would have to be an ex military/cia type professional or two.
"Will no one rid me of this loathsome reporter/aide/activist?"
Exactly what I was thinking.
It doesnt make any sense because you find it hard to believe.
Eh. Two people robbed in the area, a man gets in a scuffle with presumably another would-be robber, winds up shot. It's not unbelievable that his murderer scarpers off without rifling through the guy's pockets. The Clintons have made a lot of enemies, and the thing about a lot of people is that some of them die.
The weirdest thing, at least in my opinion, is the deaths of White House interns Mary Mahoney and Christine M. Mirzayan.
Both seemingly randomly murdered.
Both crimes totally unsolved.
Both murders happening between the time that Mike Isikoff stated that a White House staffer with the initial "M" was going to come forward with a story and Monica Lewinsky coming forward with her story.
Just... what are the chances that after a lawyer declares that a White House staffer with the initial "M" is going to come forward TWO White House staffers with that initial are randomly, brutally murdered afterwards, and these murders are completely unrelated.
Either something's up or this is seriously the weirdest coincidence of all time.
Amending my "Both crimes totally unsolved.", one WAS "solved" by a confession, though the person who confessed has recanted stating that he confessed under duress.
I knew about Mahoney -- IIRC, she was in contact with several other women in the white house who were complaining about sexual harassment, and wanted to take some action. Hadn't heard about the other one.

Renegade, a strange out of nowhere question:
Many moons ago I rebuilt a pair of rather beat-up Eico HF-60 monoblocks. They had been modified sometime in the past to use battery bias on the input tube, an EF86. I never sketched out the change done here, but now I'm curious since I was discussing this very same pair of amplifiers (now sold) with a friend of mine, who used to own them.
original schematic for reference: here
I'm thinking the negative bias via the battery was applied to g1, with a coupling capacitor after the input jack. The original cathode resistor / bypass cap was removed, leaving only the 100 ohm resistor. Feedback applied as normal.
According to my friend, the battery was attached to the cathode. replacing both the 1800 ohm and 100 ohm resistor. Negative feedback was applied through a capacitor to block the 1.5VDC from getting to the output. But I'm thinking the size of the cap here would have been huge - not the .22uf cap I remember being in this section.
Anyway - of no particular interest other than I keep wondering - how does one apply negative feedback to a battery-biased tube?
Speak English is how.
I bet a competent translator could command pretty good money.

I love beach volleyball!
Did one of the Germans just give birth a week ago? What's up with the support tape on the abs?
It's kinesio tape. I doubt it actually has any benefits.
The wiki entry, for those of you who interested in scientific medical science.
I was a professional volleyball player. I used it.
It definitely works.
I do love volleyball. Too many pictures of the Muslim team though. You're not playing volleyball right if you don't give me at least half a chub. Luckily the German team delivered.

Many Republicans donors are now more likely to give money to Hillary Clinton than to Donald Trump.
I assume she will now suddenly realize that she's taking money from the exact people she's been accusing of buying our elections for eight years, realize what a hypocrite she is, and never mention campaign finance again.
Right?
