Dems in Disarray! Bernie Sanders Delegates Just Booed When Told to Vote For Hillary Clinton
More evidence that both major political parties are in the midst of a meltdown.
As the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Philadelphia today, Sen. Bernie Sanders, the runner-up in the Democratic primary race, told his delegates that they must rally around Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee. Sanders' delegates responded with boisterous boos.
Here's the clip, via CNN:
Bernie Sanders: We have to defeat Donald Trump and we have to elect Clinton and Kaine https://t.co/aezIyyZAOE https://t.co/55ckVZaVnw
— CNN Politics (@CNNPolitics) July 25, 2016
"Brothers and sisters. This is the real world that we live in," Sanders said as the boos lingered, trying to calm the crowd and turn the conversation around to the way that Donald Trump has "insulted women and Africans."
But the crowd refused to settle down, and instead launched into a pro-Bernie chant.

The brief moment is yet another reminder of the Democratic party's deep internal divisions as the convention opens. The party has been bitterly split throughout its nomination process, with many Democrats deeply unsatisfied with Clinton and Democratic leadership.
And over the weekend, the long-embattled Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced that she would be stepping down at the end of the week following the hacking and unauthorized leak of DNC emails. After initially saying that she would gavel in the convention, it looks like she won't even do that. Wasserman Schultz was also booed while on stage this morning at an appearance before Florida's DNC delegation.
All of this amounts to a remarkable display of disunity heading into the party's biggest political event of the year. And what's even more remarkable is that Democrats aren't alone in this: The Republican convention last week was marked by infighting and argument as well, with Sen. Ted Cruz, the runner-up in the GOP primary, declining to endorse Donald Trump in a primetime speech—resulting in a wave of boos from the convention floor.
None of this should be surprising given that the parties have nominated to two least well liked candidates in history. The coalitions that used to hold the parties together are fracturing, and the fragments that remain are less and less satisfying to the American public.
Democrats may end up holding together a little better than Republicans, at least in the near term, but it's clear from the reaction of Sanders' delegates today that deep divisions will remain for a long time. The two major parties—and the old political binary they represent—are both experiencing full-scale meltdowns driven by disaffected and disappointed voters. That's the real world that we live in, and it's rather amazing to watch.

Every time I hear that phrase in an address, my hackles stand up. Nothing good is coming after those words.
"Comrades," perhaps?
D00ds and d00dettes?
"Peeps" would be much better. So classy.
...when they insist we're just not good enough.
I know. So cis-hetero and tradtional family oriented.
I feel oppressed. Is there a designated safe space at the convention, with puppies and coloring books?
It's completely safe to assume there is.
How about "My fellow Americans"
Shit, nevermind, that's really othering to the illegals undocumented.
"Pump up the volume, pump up the volume, pump up the volume. Dance, dance, dance!"
He's one of them!
Heh, a Suderman article that isn't pants-shitting over Trump. Someone get a screenshot of this before he realizes what he's done and takes it down!
Yeah, there's no Donald in this story. Who approved this? WE WANTZ MOAR DONALD! *bangs on desk*
"Bernie Sanders: We have to defeat Donald Trump and we have to elect Clinton and Kaine "
That's what the tweet says. It fails to mention the 2 minutes of booing.
I would be heartened if only they were eschewing Clinton for something other than a socialist.
Maybe they're eschewing Clinton for an atheist.
We're going to be espeaking eSpanish, and eschewing Clinton.
Gesundheit.
...eschewing Clinton.
"Ewwwwwwwwww, *gross*!"

None of this matters. We only have 4 days left. Everyone drink!
World to end, July 29, 2016
Well, at least it's on a Friday.
It could have had the courtesy to end on a Saturday morning so we could all dodge the hangover.
No, better that the world end on a Monday. Right, guys?
The pretend tight ship is cratering on the jagged politics of elite belligerence.
The establishment lighthouse is there to guide errant sailors.
Yes, right oun to the rocks.
Debbie just got axed from all DNC 'festivities,' or any other DNC for the foreseeable future, completing the Vaudeville hook.
Well, other than her attendance and participation as Hillary's campaign boss.
IOW, she'll be exactly as involved after her defenestration as before. Call it an "open windows" policy.
A few of my Berniebro friends would prefer if she was defenestrated through a plate glass window.
Well, other than her attendance and participation as Hillary's campaign boss.
Debbs is an 'honorary' chair, which I think in Establishent-ish translates to 'take check and smile if needed.'
Does anyone else keep reading "Clinton and Kaine" as "Citizen and Kane"?
And where is Biden already? It's about time for him to swoop in and save the party.
Someone's kicking a path through the Natty Lite cans to his bed as we speak.
Does anyone else keep reading "Clinton and Kaine" as "Citizen and Kane"?
Yes, for days now.

I liked it.

If the DNC is not absolutely fucking derptastic, I'm gonna be so disappointed. I'm stocking up on alcohol.
You've already had two days of leftist protestors with Sanders signs marching around Philly chanting Chris Christie's "Lock Her Up!" call-and-response, and the convention doesn't even start for another hour!
Oh, so now PoC's who have been in the USA longer than Sanders and his forebears are called "Africans"??
fucking progs can't even keep their own bullshit race-trolling rules straight
BTW -

CNN has reposted one which skips the whole "Women and Africans" line...if it ever existed in the previous i don't know. Did it?
Talk about the violence inherent in the system!
That's record-speed memory holing. And who says the media aren't compliant and biased?
No better sign of the times than MSM trying to memory hole video that, among other things, features some several hundred running video cameras not afflicted with memory-hole problems.
Other media have published the clip and he says "African Americans"
Well its so generous of him to ensure to take offense on behalf of millions of people "not him".
which is the part of the leftist race-trolling which i find so surprising that no one else gets irked by = white lefties constantly lecturing minorities about how offended they should be at other people, but not by the one who is actually taking their own agency away from them.
I don't remember him ever actually insulting blacks. Is this one of those things I'm just not supposed to think about? Should I emote?
It was sort of a "Blacks already dislike Bernie Sanders - latch onto whatever evidence justifying it they can find"-situation for much of his campaign.
His confrontation with BLM people in Seattle got things off on a bad footing and it never got much better.
Its one of those things which progs really don't like to talk about.
My point was not so much about intended insults, so much as the hubris that he exemplifies in pretending to speak for minority groups that don't like *him* much either.
"Sir, you are talking to a nigger!"
maybe he's talking about Afrikaners?
Maybe he's referring to Obama?
"They weren't all booing. Some of them was cheering!"
"They were cheering the booing."

I was saying Boo-urns.
I think you mean "Boo-ernie."

We'll see. Republicans seen to be defecting more publicly, but that's because the outsider won. Democrats got the candidate the establishment wanted, but no one seems excited about it.
I would respect Bernie more if had followed that up with, "This isn't some fantasy world where we can give everyone a free college education or free healthcare!"
They do tend to fall in line like drones when told to.
Noice.
The problem with that car is the united states is in the backseat.
Yeah, but you know everything is going to be fine because they have Obamacare now.

I'd just like to thank my American brothers and sisters in advance for two weeks of the most entertaining reality television ever.
You poor mape, it's like you have not seen Jean-Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors.
Sanders should join the GOP. Those guys only boo if you don't sell out.
Sorry, the internet has informed me that it's not selling out if you are keeping a promise, even if you don't mean a word of it. Endorsements are a suicide pact, it is known.
The internet is wrong!
"This is the real world that we live in..."
Hmm...I think I've spotted the problem. All of his supporters are committed to living in a fantasy world. And he has been feeding that to them for the last year.
Gee, what butt-clenching excitement. How are you staying awake?
By bumping No-Doze and drinking as much strong coffee my stomach can tolerate.
Careful, man. That shit's got an attainable LD50, unlike weed.
The party has been bitterly split throughout its nomination process, with many Democrats deeply unsatisfied with Clinton and Democratic leadership.
Peter haz a sad.
Schadenfreude is the most beautiful word in the German language*.
(* That I am using in this sentence.)
Actually you were using it in the preceding sentence. But well done anyway.
Lisa: Schadenfeude means shameful joy, it means taking delight in the misfortune of others.

Holy shit, look at the scholarship application form, it has like 20+ checkboxes for specifying one's gender.
*nods knowingly*
In the drive to declare gender fluid and undefined, they're coming up with more and more complex identification matrices. And again, they call that progress.
Because we must know your gender.
Lol.
I'm not sure.
I don't know.

Fuck you.

you sir are a cock-blocking bitch
It's ok. It's worth noting twice what the pink-star-of-David application form will likely look when the feds issue one.
Okay, I'll take one for the team: what the fuck is "two spirit"?
Have at least two drinks before taking a guess?
If you really want to know:
It's the native american version of transgenderism.

Don't you fucking THINK about othering me, you cis-shitlord!
So I can check all of them? Nice.
And then dare anyone to question your self-identification!
From the faq
Whew! Thank goodness.
Public restrooms on the first and second floors are gender-specific.
Don't they boycott other venues for a lesser infringement?
Consistency is the hobgoblin of cisgendered minds.
Which is the specific one for agender???? Discrimination!!
Which is the specific one for agender????
Squat in the potted plants in the lobby?
It's easy. Just piss on the US Constitution. (but no desecration of the Koran, please.)
If one is "gender fluid", can one ever be considered to have had gay sex? Asking for a friend...
The truly gender fluid can have both straight and gay sex at the same time with the same partner.
Euphemism for jizz?
Does it include furries? (Asking for a friend.)
I note there's a lot of 'asking for a friend' on this subthread.
I think I found sloopy
I thought he gave that shit up to write books for kids.
Modern political parties need to return to the Founding Fathers' example of giving out ludicrous amounts of free booze in order to get people to the polls. Would George Washington have ended up with such good press if he HADN'T given out the modern equivalent of $2M of rye whiskey over the course of his political career?
They used to bribe people to vote for them.
Story of the day:
#CrabsNeverHillary
Condensed Bernie Speech:
Fifteen dollars, sugar shack, dirt floor, unsecured loans, different rates, free college.
I have been around Liberals and Democrats all of my life. And every time in the past they would somehow manage to make themselves exited and to really believe in their nominee. Even when the nominees were real losers like Dukakus or Kerry, the Democrats would convince themselves how their guy was smarter and better than the evil Republican. Sure, they thought the Republican was evil, but they actually believed in their guy as well.
This is the first time in my lifetime that isn't the case. None of my Democratic friends will even try to defend Hillary. I have never seen anything like it. These people never admit fault in their own much less do so to an evil right winger like me. But time and again I will go after Hillary's incompetence and corruption and criminality and they won't even try to contradict me. They will just glumly change the subject to how bad Trump is.
Trump is divisive but he is not that different from other nominees because a lot of Republicans like him and are true believers. Hillary in contrast seems to have virtually no true believers. It is the damnedest thing I have ever seen.
I haven't seen even one Hillary bumper sticker, in Maryland, not one. I've seen plenty of Bernie stickers. I don't think the media realizes just how much people dislike Hillary. She's blown a 40 point lead in the polls. That doesn't sound like a path to victory to me. It will probably get worse for Hillary. Imagine if she has a coughing fit during the debates. Can you imagine how Trump plays that?
I have seen several Hillary bumper stickers here in MA. About 50% of them were on cars that had "War is not the answer!" bumper stickers.
I made sure to keep my distance. I figured the farther away I was the less likely it was that they'd decide that I had cake.
Imagine if she has a coughing fit during the debates.
Or has a seizure:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMHOcmDVBP0
I thought that was a GIF. Holy shit.
Meh, I think it's just her trying to do a funny overreaction to something someone said.
Bear witness to the glory that is diehard Democrats tearing themselves apart over DWS.
Before the DNC is over, we may be able to bottle enough prog tears to fuel a starship out of here.
That is the only redeeming thing about these circle jerks they call political conventions.
I vote we fly it directly into the Sun and save ourselves the pain of continuing to exist post-DWS.
Not having her derp in the political landscape makes the universe a bleak and uncaring place. I would rather live without alt-text.
Trumps advantage is that he's immune from the leftist media's attacks. It even seems to help him, rather than hurt.
However, when it counts to their ideological credibility, they only care about the (D) after someone's name. That is not to say that Republicans (or Libertarians) are overwhelmingly better on that point. But, anecdotally, my loud, Bernie-loving friends were bummed out when he lost, but didn't seem to care when he endorsed Clinton, and will still pull the lever for her.
I know at least one Bernie type who says they refuse to vote for Clinton.
Everyone assumes that and maybe they will. We won't know until November. All I am saying is that things seem to be very different with regard to Clinton than any other nominee from either party I have ever seen. Maybe they will turn out to vote for her anyway. But if there ever is going to be a time they don't, this is it, because no one likes this woman or will defend her.
Lack of enthusiasm matters at the margins. Sure, many or most of the Bernie supporters will end up voting for her, but some won't, and I'm sure some will vote for Stein or Trump.
"Trump is a bully and a demagogue."
Well, WTF are you, comrade?
RE: Dems in Disarray! Bernie Sanders Delegates Just Booed When Told to Vote For Hillary Clinton
More evidence that both major political parties are in the midst of a meltdown.
Bernie Sanders delegates were justified when told to vote for Heil Hitlary.
Although she is a worthy candidate for our further enslavement, Comrade Sanders would be a much better choice.
Here is a man who didn't start work until he was about 40 years old, never worked in the private sector and spent his honeymoon in Moscow during the Cold War. Additionally, Comrade Sanders wants to tax our companies and corporations into oblivion, jail anyone who disagrees with him regarding "climate change," raise taxes on the untermenschen, etc.
The democrats had a wonderful opportunity to a real socialist into office and failed.
We will all weep softly on our pillows tonight knowing the Great People's Revolution has been slowed even further.
It must be very disconcerting for a socialist to be faced with a rabble that doesn't obey him.
Nicolae Ceausescu says "Tell me about it!"
"However, Ceau?escu had misjudged the crowd's mood. Roughly eight minutes into his speech, several people began jeering, booing and others began chanting "Timi?oara!" He tried to silence them by raising his right hand and calling for the crowd's attention before order was temporarily restored, then proceeded to announce social benefit reforms that included raising of the national minimum wage by 200 lei per month. Images of Ceau?escu's facial expression as the crowd began to boo and heckle him were among the most widely broadcast of the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe.[12]
Failing to control the crowds, the Ceau?escus finally took cover inside the building that housed the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party. The rest of the day saw an open revolt of Bucharest's population, which had assembled in University Square and confronted the police and army at barricades."
Sic semper tyrannis.
I'm kind of getting a kick of the ultra-liberals tying themselves in knots. "I'm fed up with the Dems! I should vote for someone else!"...."But OMG TRUMP!"
I quit my 9 to 5 job and now I am getting paid 97usd hourly. How? I work-over internet! My old work was making me miserable, so I was forced to try-something NEW. After two years, I can say my life is changed-completely for the better! Check it out what i do.
=======? http://www.Alpha-Careers.com
With the Dems picking Kaine, as I thought they might if they weren't happy with Hillary, I again put out my outlandish theory that Hil isn't going to be the candidate in November. She will be nominated by the end of the convention, and so will Kaine or some other milquetoast guy that people can see as a President.
At some point soon after the convention, the other investigatory shoe will drop---the foreign corruption and the Clinton Foundation---and she'll be induced to withdraw. With a post-November, pre-January Ford-esque pardon.
As a lot of Trump's support can be expressed as, "Anybody but that bitch, including this orange carnival barker," this should help the DNC pull a victory out of what looks like a bad defeat. Especially if polling is true that Johnson and Stein are crippling the Dems much more than Trump.
Trump v Hillary is a shit sandwich for most people, but one where they're hoping Trump won't be as bad. Trump v. Kaine (or Villsack or Warner or whoever the DNC ends up picking instead)? That's a much tougher question.
One trouble with that is that a last-minute switch to a non-Hillary makes the whole party look inept.
Right, 'cause they're looking so smooth right now.
You already have people seriously saying that the candidate shouldn't debate at all, the candidates from the other party and third parties. And they have a point, not that Trump does very well in debates.
How much more inept does dropping the hammer on possibly the most corrupt politician since LBJ make the DNC look? I don't think it does. While Kaine has his own corruption scandals, they're like parking tickets compared to the shit Hillary's engaged in.
Over Hillary's dead body. The problem is once she is nominated then she can't be pushed off the ballot. The only way what you are saying could happen is if she stepped aside voluntarily and removed herself from the race and even then I am not sure it could happen. Regardless, there is no way on earth, Hillary is stepping aside. This is all she has. And winning the Presidency might be the only thing that keeps her out of jail. She would have to be forced out and I don't see how that could happen short of killing her.
What if the FBI, in response to some new juiciness, did actually do their damned jobs and get DOJ to indict for corruption?
Has there been a Presidential election before in this country where one of the major candidates had an indictment over their head? I can't think of one.
I agree that she isn't stepping aside voluntarily. But the trend lines are absolutely horrible for her, have been so the last few months, and get worse with every instance of 'workplace violence' and 'lashing out at Muslim discrimination.'
I dunno, maybe Obama and the DNC figures they're better off with a Trump win, rather than going through the nastiness of trying to indict their own nominee.
As crazy as it sounds, the Clinton people seemed pretty clear that her being indicted was not going to stop them. There is nothing that says someone under indictment can't be elected.
As crazy as it sounds, the Clinton people seemed pretty clear that her being indicted was not going to stop them. There is nothing that says someone under indictment can't be elected.
Everybody saw what she did with Travelgate.
She's ruthless against government bureaucrats that cross her.
She might be in charge of the FBI for the next eight years.
Who's going to cross her between now and November?
The best we can hope for is a Snowden type whistle blower, but even that wouldn't provoke an indictment until after November 7. And if she wins, it'll be up to Congress to impeach her.
"At some point soon after the convention, the other investigatory shoe will drop---the foreign corruption and the Clinton Foundation---and she'll be induced to withdraw. With a post-November, pre-January Ford-esque pardon.
You're a good person. You don't think like she does.
She'll never withdraw. She'd rather tear the country apart than withdraw. It'll never happen.
If she wins, she can only be impeached--and she watched her husband win that fight.
She'll be pardoned after the election regardless of whether she wins or loses.
She'll never withdraw.
No one's about to indict the person who may be their next boss either.
The best we can hope for is that the American people reject this crook because she's a crook.
It makes me sick to think that any Republican but Trump would be trampling her underfoot right now.
Re your last sentence, people keep saying that, but I'm not so sure. Nobody but Trump had that level of widespread, enthusiastic support.
