7* Authoritarian Lines in Donald Trump's Speech
Remarks as prepared for delivery combine statist policies with Great Man fantasy

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is giving a speech tonight, and Politico has obtained an advance copy. It's a familiar stew of Great Man Theory, protectionism writ large, and supporting our troops/cops, but on a night when millions of Americans may be focusing on Trump for the first time, here are seven* lines that drip with alarming levels of authoritarianism:
1) "I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequences."
Note: Freedom of movement, and freedom of businesses to fail, has long been intrinsic to the American experiment.
2) "Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it."
Note: This isn't even Great Man Theory, it's GREATEST Man Theory. Such delusion is the rhetorical currency of dictators, not democrats.
3) "[T]he crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored."
Crime is overwhelmingly a state and local issue fought by state and local cops and prosecutors. Thinking a president or his government can "end" crime is a fantasy, and modern history is filled with the human wreckage of the federal government acting upon the freedom-restricting impulse, from Richard Nixon to Bill Clinton, to get "tough on crime."
4) "[W]e must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place."
So, France? Trump is talking about a massive, unprecedented disruption in the flow of human beings in and out of this country, which would have a hugely negative impact on tourism and commerce. And any country we impose these bans will likely turn around and slap them back on Americans.
5) "We are going to build a great border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities."
Quick question about the efficacy of building a wall to keep out drugs: Why doesn't work for prisons?
6) "[Bernie Sanders'] supporters will join our movement, because we will fix his biggest issue: trade."
Trade is not a lawnmower; you cannot "fix" the voluntary international exchange of goods, and those who act upon that delusion inevitably make trade less free and goods more expensive.
7) "We are going to enforce all trade violations, including through the use of taxes and tariffs, against any country that cheats. This includes stopping China's outrageous theft of intellectual property, along with their illegal product dumping, and their devastating currency manipulation."
Re: stopping China's currency manipulation. Um…how?
With Trump, the authoritarianism is not just in the policies, but in the basic habit of mind, and populistic selling proposition. But hey, at least he said "we will fix TSA at the airports!"

8) I will make Washington classy again.
9) The mushroom cloud will be bigger than Hiroshima...bigger!!!.
He didn't say why we would get tired of winning.
Allow Mr. Neutron to explain with a cautionary tale.
It's gonna be YUUUUGE, believe me.
I'm making over $14k a month working part time. I kept hearing other people tell me how much money they can make online so I decided to look into it. Well, it was all true and has totally changed my life. check it out this website and go to tach tab for more details. This is what I do.... http://www.trends88.com
TEAM TRUMP - ASSEMBLE!
Form feet and legs! Form arms and body! And, I'll form the head!
And Ann Coulter is nuts.
She's the Adam's apple.
Really? Not the Adam's apple?
I thought i was throwing sticks of dynamite. But if we both came up with it at the same time? Probably just an M-80.
This never ends well.
That composite monster is gonna have way too many assholes.
The only thing that might make me vote for Trump would be if he promised to investigate Hillary for taking money from foreign governments while she was the Secretary of State.
I'd vote for him if he gave me nudes of Ivanka. And I'm sure he has them.
^This
Which part? The first part, or the second part?
No judgement.
Careful. Someone might report you for trying to sell your vote.
I'd vote for him if he didn't have nudes of his daughter.
Wait, wut?
I thought it would be the other way about.
Crusty doesn't like attractiveness.
He's pulling for Ivana photos... after eight years in the White House.
A lot of us would "pull" for those photos.
I think he has implied that Ken, but I won't hold my breath waiting for him to follow through on that...or anything else he has said he will do.
Nooooooooope.
1. How exactly? The only strategy that would work would be to remove the incentives to leave, primarily by lowering corporate taxes...something only congress can do. I have no problem with this.
2. The system could use a good wrecking. I doubt he will have much success though.
3. I have a problem with this one, but I don't see how he would be any worse than what we have suffered under the last 5 presiden....no, make that since Nixon.
4. Sensible. Nothing the last 6 presidents haven't done.
5. Bullshit. Not gonna happen
6. Again, nothing everyone else hasn't tried.
7. Again, nothing everyone else hasn't tried.
I don't remember pants shitting like this when Obama came on the scene. You didn't have to read between the lines to see Mr. PenandPhone's authoritarianism. It was naked as hell.
Contrast this with Cankles who wants to prosecute climate deniers (and if successful, everyone else who disagrees with her - a truly horrifying prospect) and overturn Citizens United, thus utterly destroying the first amendment. She wants to gut the Second Amendment. Should she appoint two SC judges and make any headway at all on those objectives it will be the death of the BOR.
Who will President Trump nominate? What will his motives be? I doubt he will choose anyone close to as far left as Chairman Pantsuit will. These choices will be with us long after a Trump or Cankles presidency is over. It is by far the most important consideration.
Yes. Hillary's message is that her enemies will be persecuted and harried relentlessly by agents of the State. Their crops burned, their fields salted, their livestock massacred, and their children sold into slavery. And all of the people on my FB feed who cry at the sight of a turtle getting run over cheer and scream for blood. It pisses me off and I'm going to have to delete the account until December when it becomes what I really use it for, which is to look at my peers' kids and reassure myself that my kids are just how they're supposed to be.
Lol...stop laughing at that turtle-loving girl...
And her husband.
I'm still kind of sensitive about that.
Seriously, I laugh at how folks cry over a turtle or a bug, but don't hesitate to advocate violence through the state.
Well, it's not them doing it.
Exactly, that's why ur so heroic.
First trimester abortions are a reasonable compromise in that light. But no!, if you're in for a dime, you're in for dollar.
Trump will nominate police state authoritarian justices, just like Clinton.
The only sane choice is to vote for Johnson.
Johnson is a pathetic joke. Thank God he stands 0.00 chance of being elected.
He's a joke of a prez candidate, but he wouldn't be bad as prez.
I disagree. He's a pot and mexican ass sex "libertarian." Frankly, the only one of those issues that isn't either resolved or on track to become resolved is the open borders thing, which isn't exactly a core libertarian issue. Beyond that, the Johnson/Weld ticket sucks on baking cakes, welfare state, and not throwing pro-lifers in jail.
Taxes
Drugs
The U.N.
Foreign Policy
GayJay just sucks on everything
Go vote for Trillary then...
Way better than Trump or Hillary.
^Yes!^ Even if I were not libertarian (with a small l) in my views, I would vote for GJ if for no other reason than not to elect either of the two biggest frauds who have ever run for president in my 45 years.
So the NRA guy speaking at the convo the other night said that electing Hillary would mean 'the end of the 2nd amendment'. On CNN, they quoted one of those factcheck/liar-liar reviews that said that indeed, Hillary had been quoted as saying that she felt the Heller decision was wrong and needed to be overturned. BUT..... they then followed up by saying that she had 'never specifically called for the end of the 2nd Amendment', so therefore the NRA statement was A LIE!
Because if you just want the end of the amendment's meaning that the average Joe can own a firearm, but you don't want the entire amendment stricken from the constitution, you clearly shouldn't be thought of as anti-2A.
I'm so confused.
I think I should go gun shopping tomorrow.
Funny how factcheckers can infer the penumbras and emanations of Republican statements to root out any dim hint of contradiction from the deepest crevices of their statements, but following a Democrat's statement from first to second-order consequences is just utterly impossible
Penumbra.......is that like a really fancy umbrella?
It's an umbrella you can write with. It's not very convenient for either since it's too big to handle for writing and too small to shed much water.
Do people actually still do those stupid factchecker things? I thought those went out of vogue with Benghazi.
The "consequences" part really ruins #1, I would say. What consequences will there be?
Reduce regulation and taxes, which he has mentioned, and companies will flock back. The consequences would be increased tax revenue and a reduction in unemployment.
Incentive is always more powerful than the threat of punishment.
If we look at th elist it is primarily things only congress can do, not the prez.
Yes but the president can guide congress Just Like kennedy and Reagan and Obama and others have done before the question is always will congress work with them sometimes yes sometimes no.
Oh yeah, that makes sense. The consequences are that it would be uneconomical. Of course that's what he meant!
Oh, and on No. 4 he said immigration, not travel.
Oh, and on No. 4 he said immigration, not travel.
Anyone who advocates building (and manning) a wall across the U.S./Mexico border should be invited to ride across that particular garden spot, from the Gulf to the Pacific, on horseback, during June-August.
Exactly. These people have zero sense of scale or possibility.
So basically Donald Trump is going to make my standard of living much poorer with his economic jingoism. Fuck him and his brain-dead supporters.
make my standard of living much poorer
^He thinks Trump going to take away the tip jar from next to the cash register^
...Because Trump's opposition is primarily low-wage earners, right? The skilled and educated who benefit most from trade and foreign investment and low-skill labor influx are totally in the bag for Trump.
Do you think about the things you say or generally expect nobody else does?
It applies to the unskilled and uneducated social-signalling, ad hominem-spewing commenter.
...Whose standard of living do you think is most at risk among libertarians and conservatives, SIV?
Or are you angry that I caught you up in a dumb paroxysm of shittalking?
"Or are you angry that I caught you up in a dumb paroxysm of shittalking?"
Does he ever do anything else?
Lets try a different tack, when have tariffs ever lowered prices?
Peg the dollar to the renminbi?
The dollar has been "getting pegged" for years now.
Yeah, but let then continue manipulating the dollar........? This dude needs to read some Hazlitt.
Yeah....but China is artificially pushing the Remninbi *up*.
But hey, at least he said "we will fix TSA at the airports!"
The only way to do that is to eliminate the TSA.
Maybe that's what he means?
Nah. He's probably just going to personally feel up every passenger.
Those are pretty bad but I take solace in that like all politicians, he is just making a bunch of promises he has no intention of keeping
Unfortunately, that's what I said about Obuma. Now we have O-care.
Sometimes the bastards actually succeed in doing what they promise.
May the gods help us if Trump is elected.
(The same goes for Hillary)
But he's never been in elected office before. He might be telling the truth!
I LOVE WAFFLES!!!!!!!!!
Fuck yes. This is the best comment of the days.
Waffles are amazing!
There's little precedence for a politician elected on such an awful platform to not at least try to do the things he promised.
He's an authoritarian fascist.
You know who else uttered authoritarian lines in his speeches?
Barack Obama?
Oh wait, he didn't utter, he exclaimed.
And Matt didn't seem very bothered by it
I think he proclaimed just like "I will lower the ocean levels"
King Lear?
"Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!"
Bossy, he was.
quelle horreur!
NO REAL MERCANS AINT NO NEED IS TRAVEL TO NO FRANCES NOHOW (spits)
President Marine Le Pen will let us in.
I don't take Trump's bluster too seriously.
I'd be really upset if Trump said he was going to destroy the healthcare system through ObamaCare or use taxpayer money to nationalize GM and give a majority of the shares to the UAW.
I'd be seeing red right now if I thought he was going to do something sick and crazy like that.
What if he said he planned to make energy prices skyrocket?
That would prove he's a true libertarian and all around swell guy.
Or use the power of his office to prosecute dissent?
Or compel gun owners to 'sell' their guns to government agents for destruction?
Yeah, but who would be crazy enough to do that?
I understand Trump said he was going to bomb ISIS members even if it might kill their families.
Can you imagine how horrible it would be if a President bombed terrorists and killed their innocent family members?
Huffington Post:
http://tinyurl.com/jsvn664
I'd be OK with bombing ISIS members if Congress were to vote out an actual declaration of war against ISIS. But bombing ISIS without that declaration is an act of infamy - as in "December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy"
I appreciate that.
I hope you appreciate that what Trump is saying he wants to do isn't some fresh evil we've never seen before.
Obama has killed more innocent children than Adam Lanza.
http://tinyurl.com/of6gq8v
You do realize you sound like an Obama lackey with their cries of "Bbbbb.... but BOOOOOSH!"
I am just pointing out that there was no hysteria on this level when others were saying worse than the bullshit Trump spews.
In a nutshell - "Oh? Where were you when..."
You do realize he's being sarcastic and obliquely referring to Barack Obama, right?
I don't take Trump's bluster too seriously.
Me neither. But that hasn't stopped my lefty gf and grandparents from being convinced that The Donald is the next Hitler. I don't get it. I can't think of anything he has said that comes remotely close to the authoritarian proclamations by Obo and Queen Vagina.
Barack Obama sifted through their emails.
Just to make sure they weren't up to sometihn'.
I had this discussion earlier. Trump is not another Hitler. I'm not well versed enough with history to pull up a clever parallel, but I do know from reading about the lives of Hitler as well as Lenin that these were men committed from an early age to the realization of unattenuated political power. Compare that with Trump, who took a small fortune in the millions and (allegedly) turned it into billions, having inherited an extensive suite of properties in the process. Trump is not nearly as ambitious or intellectual or manipulative or even as avaricious as either of these men. Authoritarian dictator requires more than merely megalomania. Trump's desire isn't political power. He wants ubiquity and a late-in-life hobby. He hasn't established a small army of like-minded revolutionaries. He has no extensive history of subversive writings. He is not standing on the precipice of historical change like Lenin with the fall of the Tsar or Hitler following the Great War.
To call him a future Hitler is intellectually insulting (mostly for the accuser) and gives the dumb schmuck far too much credit.
Actually "The Donald is the next Hitler" makes a sort of sense, given how Barry the O is a political descendant of and ideological heir to Benny the Moose.
"I can't think of anything he has said that comes remotely close to the authoritarian proclamations by Obo and Queen Vagina."
Then you're willfully deaf.
If Welch wants to be the next Roger Ailes, he needs to learn to count.
Did Trump make destroying our Second Amendment rights an important part of his agenda?
Because if he had, I'd be really upset about that.
To think a Presidential candidate would campaign against our Constitutional rights!
Who would do something like that?
"[T]he crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored."
You know who else was against crime?
You know who else could get things done in less than one day?
I don't think he said that safety will be restored on January 20th.
He said that on January 20th, safety will be restored--"will be" meaning at some point in the future.
Maybe he can do a fake coup like Erdogan. That's when he builds the wall and erects giant Donald statues all across the land. Maybe some giant Donald statues ON the wall. Even Stalin didn't do that.
A fake coup followed by a purge of the federal civil service under special "emergency measures" ?
I could vote for that
You're starting to sell me on this Trump guy, SIV. Tell me more.
Will the statues have short fingers?
The bottom half will be modeled after Ron Jeremy.
Then shouldn't he have picked a date in November?
January 20 is Inauguration Day.
"Lame duck" originally meant the time between November 7 and January 20.
Obama will go on an executive order rampage come November.
"Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea!
for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath,
because he knoweth that he hath but a short time."
----Revelation 12:12 KJV
John Wick?
Trump is so goddamn vague it's infuriating. Not that vapid political speeches aren't exactly uncommon, but it's obvious that everything he's saying is more soundbites than policy platform. Hell, at this point I'm not even sure if he'll actually end up engaging in trade protectionism because he's promising the goddamn world. I mean, seriously, stop Chinese intellectual property theft? Give me a step by step plan on how you'll accomplish that buddy (A reminder that Donald Trump got his catchphrase from a goofy Japanese video game character.). Well I'll just go to his platform website and read his U.S.-China Trade platform.
Ok, so at least there's some discussion there about American companies exchanging technology. But his platform is basically summed up 'this thing will happen, and if not I'll torpedo China-U.S. relations."
To be fair to Trump, there is a suggestion in regards to lowering the corporate tax rate to 15%. Holy shit, an actual decent policy position instead of blowhard posturing.
"Such delusion is the rhetorical currency of dictators, not democrats."
Citation needed that these are non-overlapping circles on a Venn diagram.
"[W]e must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place."
This doesn't strike me as particularly "authoritarian". A country's borders do matter, and they can/should be enforced. Also, it seems reasonable to not import people who want to kill you.
1. Can't, won't be done.
2. Meh.
3. Sounds rather Nazi like.
4. Not so sure this is a bad idea.
5. Bullshit.
6. Might get a few commie votes.
7. It doesn't seem to be in particular clear what he is saying here. The degree of it's badness would depend on exactly what the details are, and who knows.
1. So Trump wants stuff to cost more?
2. So he admits he's an insider?
3. So there's no limit to the police state and militarization to come?
4. So the torch in the Statue of Liberty will be replaced with a stop sign?
5. So double down on the failed drug war, instead of legalizing and stopping the crime?
6. Because Sanders supporters really didn't want free everything?
7. So Trump does want stuff to cost more.
Fear not. Hillary is going to save us.
"I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequences."
The Wall looms ever larger.
Well, a wall that can be used to keep people out can be used to keep people in.
If there's ever a wall, I think that's the only thing it will ever be used for. Keeping people in, that is.
It will be just as successful at that as it will be at keeping people out.
I suspect we'll be astonished at the increased efficiency when the government decides policing the border is in its own best interest.
A wall to keep me out of Mexico and maybe even Canada too? Sweet! I'll even help hammer up the 2x4's.
National Guard or Army on patrol along the line also works, because like seriously... fuck Mexico.
It's a shithole and if we can't flush the toilet, we can at least put the lid down.
He already is threatening companies that want to go overseas. So I wouldn't put it passed him to violate an individuals freedom of movement.
The Wall was a'ight, but I liked Dark Side of the Moon better.
Atom Heart Mothet or gtfo.
You Animals.
Trump is talking about a massive, unprecedented disruption in the flow of human beings in and out of this country...
Bingo. That's the only reason I will vote for Trump. It's not unprecedented though. You pulled that one out of your ass, Matt.
widget is a bad person. he does not love everyone. he does not think we can all get along or ever will.
As soon as the progressives have taken over, proclaimed the utopia and edited our genes to make us all perfect people, we'll all get along. Stop resisting, citizen.
Re: stopping China's currency manipulation. Um?how?
By manipulating ours harder.
I know I know, that's conspiracy theory shit that only Peter Schiff followers are telling you will happen.
"we will fix TSA at the airports!"
If by "fix" you mean "neuter" I'll give that one a thumbs up.
I think Reason should do a poll and ask about various aspects of the coming Donald Gestapo.
Like, what sort of uniforms will we all wear? Will our armbands have the likeness of the Donald on them? You know, some dictators like Kim Jong Un is even making everyone cut their hair just like his! That's fucking scary, we'd all have to get a combover! Will we change the national anthem? What will it be, no one even knows what kind of music our future dear leader likes. We should definitely have a poll. Maybe the Donald will outlaw polls, so we should have one now.
Which such countries would Americans want to emigrate to?
And any country we impose these bans will likely turn around and slap them back on Americans.
There's really not many people who would be too upset about not being able to immigrate to Pakistan or Afghanistan. But if our presidential elections continue their current descent into hell, I guess both of those may be an attractive option after a couple more elections. If we can get out past the wall.
Anyway, if you can pass a physical, they'll send you to a place like that for free, with pay. And they'll even give you a gun which will soon be banned in the land of the free!
It would be ridiculous to think Trump may be some sort of "stealth libertarian" but no more so than to think Gary Johnson is one.
TrumpCaliphate 2016!
Trump grossly misinterpret's the nation's mood. We are tired of overcriminalization and hyperventilating about threats and crimes. The crowd will cheer but most Americans will shake their heads. Hillary has tons of great material for her convention next week. It will be a huge contrast - full of respectable people endorsing her and everyone on the same page.
We are tired...
The royal "We"?
"We" = people who don't self-identify as 'bad'
*whip sound*
"Trump grossly misinterpret's the nation's mood."
That is why he was soundly defeated in the primaries.
"Hillary has tons of great material for her convention next week. It will be a huge contrast - full of respectable people endorsing her and everyone on the same page."
An apt description of the hive mentality.
Oh look another moron that doesn't understand the difference between a primary and a general election.
" Hillary has tons of great material for her convention next week. It will be a huge contrast - full of respectable people endorsing her and everyone on the same page."
Do you need your meds adjusted, Addiction Myth? I can barely stomach watching the Donald-my wife insisted on turning it on, but I don't think there is any drug strong enough to get me through 5 minutes of the DNC...
It's true. There's no support to the claim that Americans are clamoring to overturn the system. Obama is the worst since LBJ and his support is at 54% or so.
Reason.com is becoming as insufferable as Salon.com. Once he is elected Nick should probably go to work for TMZ.
I can't help but laugh how everyone takes what Trump says so literally. He's going to win in November because he's going to go full presidential mode and Hillary is going to look like the dangerous one.
Uh huh. Pull the other one.
WHYCOME THEM FAGITS AIN'T VOAT TUMP HUH???
Cuz they don't have yuuuuge dreams bro.
The GOP faggot vote will be higher with Trump than with Romney or McCain. I am very reluctant to make predictions but you can take that one to the bank. How to measure that?, I don't know.
Let's count the votes in West Hollywood, CA after the November election. That's the best proxy measure I can come up with. Compare the results to the 2012 and 2008 elections. Money on the table, I'm going with Trump doing better in 2016 by more than a 2% margin of error.
It should be interesting, now that marriage isn't an issue, getting killed for being gay might be.
Muslims are targeting homosexuals, and when gay clubs are hit at home, which are a pretty important part of the culture, there's a better chance some of that demographic votes R.
The PayPal guy and that activist Snugglupolis are getting more attention for team rainbow than anybody on the Democrat plantation. Also the branding of Trump as 'Daddy' was a good strategy to possibly help that.
Then again in Weho, they all just might stay home on election night for butt sex and meth. I plan to spread peanut butter on my privates and ask any Code Pink protesters if they've got any 'white chocolate'.
under this administration, we've had a president who has already
- imposed restrictions on movement of companies abroad
- implemented draconian controls on multiple domestic industries
- ordered murder of american citizens sans due process
- sanctioned widespread, limitless surveillance of american citizens
- used the IRS as a political weapon
- used the DoE as a political weapon
- used the BLM as a political weapon
- used the EPA.... etc.
....
by contrast, trump seems to say unpleasant things about immigration and free trade.
Are 'scary prognostications about Trump based on his campaign rhetoric' really supposed to be worse than the current status quo?
And who is more likely to continue the pattern demonstrated above?
yes, please lets all vote for gary johnson. but please cease the needless diaper soiling over a populist stump speech.
If no one soils their diapers, Huggies goes out of business! You evil sonofa bitch!!!!
Trumpkins: "He's not a modern day Hitler, sillies. Don't take everything he says literally!"
Trump: "Silly Americans ... you knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in."
It's time to stop.
Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Christ. Even your taste in music is terrible.
Journey opened for the Rolling Stones during the Stone's 1981 tour. I hitchhiked from Penn State to the Stone's concert at the sports stadium at Syracuse University with a Vietnamese gal in tow. I had played Rolling Stones albums on my record player over and over again by then. I was familiar with Journey too, but not so much.
We took a bus back and she told me how cool it was when the Stones played this or that song. I nodded, but the fact was I couldn't hear anything but raw noise from either band. The acoustics were just horrible, even for an open-air stadium. I changed the subject to everyday stuff.
I tried to kiss her at one point, but she turned her head away. That's why I remember.
Exactly!!!!! It's like a mouse talking to a scorpion, wanting to be it's friend. The scorpion tells the mouse, you know you mice are part of my diet right? You seem nice dude, but stay away because I don't want you to get stung. I am what I am, and have instincts that might be uncontrollable.
The mouse ignores the scorpion, and says, bro, you need a hug.....come on man!!
The scorpion says, dude!! Although it would be cool, I already told you who I am.
The mouse says....awwwe come on bro, bring it in, you can do it!!!! You're stronger than that, you can do it.
The scorpion finally agrees as he feels kinda bad and wants to overcome his instincts. Ok dude......
BAM!!! The mouse gets stung, and as it lays there dying, the scorpion says.....See, I told you to go away!!!!!! This is what I am.
For all the people who ignored what Trump is, and elected him are delusional. Whst the fuck happened to all the freedom and liberty people were shouting about the last election? Oh, that doesn't matter now cause scary immigrants looking for work like their ancestors did, and needing to make jobs by forcing companies to do shit.....which wasn't ok when the dems were in control.
Of course. And the truth is they couldn't care less about the immigrants. In fact, they know who cooks the unlimited breakfast buffet at Golden Corral. It's completely fake fear and outrage. Watch Trump's speech tonight - every single line is a lie and they all know it. And they will cheer.
There's an unlimited breakfast buffet at Golden Corral?
I hadn't seen Trump in a while, and thought he looked rather puffy. Then again I saw Hillary recently and it's clear that bitch never misses a meal. Or maybe as a vicious insectoid predator, she finally ate Bill after he climbed on her back and tried to mate.
This is a more apt retelling of the fable.
Thiel is proud to be gay and Republican.
And he got a standing ovation.
I'm more impressed by his capitalist accomplishments.
Maybe we need to have a capitalist pride parade!
Well, that would be an interesting alternative to the usual commie goings-on at every pride parade I've seen.
? "I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequences."
Sounds like Nicol?s Maduro!
That's actually an improvement when you think about it.
Obama wouldn't let companies stay in America without consequences.
The gays are the only group that Trumpkins don't have a hard-on for. However that's probably not a very good reason to vote for him.
Did you not see that Thiel just got a standing ovation for being Republican and gay?
Like I said, they are the only group that Trumpkins aren't going to demonize. Would you now like to prove the rest of my statement?
Nah, let's just focus on the first part......
Shut up, homophobe. How many videos of blue-haired GOP voters beheading gays will it take for you to admit that the Republican Party is a violently homophobic terrorist organization?
The gays are the only group that Trumpkins don't have a hard-on for.
Umm, dajjal, you might want to another operative proof read your spectacular posts.
Um widget, you might want to turn your brain on before responding to me.
What happened to #8?
8 rode away on a big rollerskate that hopped over a really tall gate, and wanted to stop to masturbate, but had to keep up speed to get to the next state, because it's girl lies in wait, and they can finally mate.
That fascist bastard! Clearly, freedom-lovers should vote for Hillary.
7) "We are going to enforce all trade violations, including through the use of taxes and tariffs, against any country that cheats. This includes stopping China's outrageous theft of intellectual property, along with their illegal product dumping, and their devastating currency manipulation."
I purchased some submersible pressure transmitters on Ebay from a Chinese firm last month. The Chinese have learned the value of being honest in cash-register transactions. After some hassles with customs they sent them to me anyway. The transmitters sold for $89 each. The US AST version sells for $495. The Chinese version is a well machined duplicate of the AST version. Not crap. The electrical hook-up diagram was engraved on the casing.
George F. Will was wondering in his Wednesday pundit column this week why the Chinese are deploying a 1st world navy in their nearby seas and if Donald Trump understands the gravity of this. You can't make this up.
Please name one regulation he has ever taken aim at for repeal.
He's saying the right thing, perfectly in line with libertarian principles, and it's 180 degrees opposite from Hillary. What do want? Frosting on top?
Will he disappoint? Probably. They all do. But as I've said for a while, look at the full part of the glass.
2) "Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it."
Note: This isn't even Great Man Theory, it's GREATEST Man Theory. Such delusion is the rhetorical currency of dictators, not democrats.
When he said this in the speech, it was tongue in cheek.
He played it for laughs.
Funny because it's true that the system is rigged against average Americans, but it was supposed to be funny.
Your pretensions of mind-reading rival John's.
I think you miss the intentional, meta-bombast aspect of Trump. He does have a big ego, sure. But part of his schtick is playing the guy with a big ego, and since much of his audience sees this, so yes, it's tongue-in-cheek and funny. No mind-reading required.
Oh look the usual Trumpologist retards are here to throw themselves in front the of history's train. They don't want to miss an opportunity to look like total fucking idiots.
Your head exploding is one of the reasons I look forward to President Trump.
Wow, so French. Progs should love this guy.
Consequences: he is going to throw a temper tantrum, just like those French politicians.
In case you are in the mood for a half dozen more Trump hit pieces today, just look upthread. Crimey, the Reason writers have done shit their pants to death over Trump. If would be funny if it weren't so damn sad.
Is there any media outlet that is not smothered with Trump stories today?
He's going down in flames in November, so it really doesn't matter what he says.
Wanna bet?
Didn't Bill Clinton's crime bills coincide with a drastic reduction in crime?
Yes, and not just in the US, but also Europe and Australia! That man was amazing, wasn't he?
'The threat of radical Islam is overblown' - Gary Johnson showing just how clueless and out of touch he is
So far, I haven't heard anything worse than I have heard from Hillary.
He's horrible but he's still better than Hillary.
Re: stopping China's currency manipulation. Um?how?
He already said! Through taxes and tariffs!
Don't ask more, because I'm pretty sure that's all he's got.
He's just going to raise prices in America until the Chinese are like "Jesus! Okay, we'll run our economy your way, just stop being mean to your citizens in a way that barely affects us!"
Genius.
"With Trump, the authoritarianism is not just in the policies, but in the basic habit of mind..."
With Trurmp? Really, Matt? With f---ing Trump?
The tiresome, iterative epiphanies of the Reason writers -- hell, any political writers -- remind me of the grocery checkout counter's Cosmopolitan magazines, offering "201 new sex tricks that will blow his mind!" Uhh, is that different that last month's edition which featured "Over 200 sex acts sure to drive him nuts!" How many ways can we describe the paragon for pol? How may times is this gonna stare you in the face, prompting you to act like Newton after the apple fell.
For cripe's sake, people who should know better but, sorry, they don't. They really don't. They implicitly cling to their pathetic thread of hope in the king. It's just that this one is not the right one. So we can warn and foam, "He's an authoritarian!!!"
It's a psychosis, a refusal to acknowledge that authoritarianism is embedded in the job description. Always was, always will be. Until you smash the structure altogether. But let's not get too edgy.
so its authoritarian to enforce laws and protect peoples jobs form their own government that forces companies to relocate in order to stay viable.
1 of 2
1) "I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequences."
Presumably this means incentivising companies to stay via tax penalties for relocating jobs. This is a bit authoritarian because it's a tax increase, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the authoritarianism of the baseline tax-and-spend big government.
2) "Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it."
This is generic salesman puffery. Not a policy so it can't count as authoritarian.
3) "[T]he crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20th 2017, safety will be restored."
This is not a specific policy. Law enforcement per se is not authoritarian.
4) "[W]e must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place."
It's our absolute freedom of association right to choose who we invite to join our country. No matter what crazy criterion we use to decide who gets invited, that can't count as authoritarian. Can choosing to invite Jane rather than Susan to a dinner party count as authoritarian? No.
2/2
5) "We are going to build a great border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities."
How does building a picket fence between you and your neighbor's houses compare with putting a gun to the neighbor's head and taking half of his salary? Less than a drop in the bucket. This is zero-authoritarian. It's our country, our choice of who to invite to join, and our choice of whatever barrier to build to enforce that choice.
6) "[Bernie Sanders'] supporters will join our movement, because we will fix his biggest issue: trade."
7) "We are going to enforce all trade violations, including through the use of taxes and tariffs, against any country that cheats. This includes stopping China's outrageous theft of intellectual property, along with their illegal product dumping, and their devastating currency manipulation."
In other words, rather than unilaterally offering favorable terms of trade to countries that don't return the favor, we will exercise our freedom of contract, as a country, to hold out for better terms. Tit-for-tat so that we're not the sucker who chooses always-cooperate in the iterated prisoner's dilemma. Is there some authoritarianism inherent in tarriffs, because they're a form of taxation? Yes, but tarriffs are a miniscule fraction of tax revenue. This is a drop in the bucket compared to the authoritarianism of the baseline tax-and-spend big government.
We can even create playlists of them so it will be very easy to find our videos which we like. We can also download those videos and can watch them offline. Showbox for pc
uhhhhm. What do you care if someone smokes pot or has "ass sex".
What about F.D.R.? Would he count in the running?
