Chelsea Manning Hospitalized After Possible Suicide Attempt

Defense team can't get answers from military.

Iraq war document leaker Chelsea Manning, in prison for violating the Espionage Act while serving in the Army, was hospitalized yesterday and a source is telling CNN that it was due to a suicide attempt.

It's not verified as yet, and Manning's own attorney told CNN he's still trying to find out what happened to Manning at Fort Leavenworth. Manning is serving a 35-year sentence for leaking hundreds of thousands of classified military documents to Wikileaks to publicize how the war was being operated, including a video of a military helicopter firing on Reuters employees, confusing their cameras for guns.

Manning also revealed that she was transgender right after being convicted, eventually legally changing her name from Bradley to Chelsea.

Just recently the military announced its plans to accommodate transgender troops in a way that allows them to live openly, while still upholding military standards of gendered behavior. (In other words: Yes, you can change your gender, but you have to commit to living as the opposite sex.) Manning, while happy to see the end of the ban on transgender troops, did not support the requirements for accommodation the military were planning to put in place. She wrote an op-ed for The Guardian:

The policy outlined by Defense Secretary Ashton Carter would require new recruits to be "stable in their identified gender for 18 months, as certified by their doctor, before they can enter the military". How many young trans people like myself fit this criteria? The idea of having a gender certification process is a misuse of the medically accepted standards of care. What is the stability of gender? Isn't gender an inherently unstable concept – always being constrained by the various context and rules under which we live?

I worry that this type of requirement will further entrench the gender binary and further legitimize the control that administrators and medical providers have over our bodies and our identities.

And what about those of us who are incarcerated? Will these rules apply to us? I am deeply concerned that like so many policies, the impact of this change won't penetrate the prison walls. What does it mean that the military will recognize our gender, unless and until we are arrested, and then what? This core identity is then stripped away and our birth assigned sex is imposed on us?

Manning's defense team put out a statement that they were "shocked and outraged" that somebody talked to the press with confidential information about Manning's health condition, but her own attorneys still have no idea what has happened or whether the claim that she attempted suicide is even true. They've been told the military would not be able to schedule a phone conversation with Chelsea until Friday, but they're demanding to speak to her now.

  1. In hindsight she should have just changed her name to Chelsea Clinton.

This is really appalling and I hope she pulls through.

    1. I don’t.

      1. Considering your screen name, I’m not surprised you’d be pro-suicide.

        1. So you are saying that word….means what you think it means?

          *fondue eating grin*

        2. That user has repeatedly established that they are either a typically mendacious troll or a very, very disturbed person.

          1. I had not noticed. I recognize the name as a fairly-frequent commenter, but Suicidy doesn’t strike me as a troll or especially disturbed.

            1. I’m not sure what words you’d use to describe someone who’s made repeated calls for the einsatzgruppen-style murder of the political left, but “disturbed” would be among those I would use.

              1. Agreed.

I did not know that. Thanks for enlightening me.

                1. I may have overstated my case. Less einsatzgruppen, more Aktion T-4. Although, there is this gem:

The only way to save America is to dispose of our progressives. I’m open to humane methods, but ultimately have no issue with using inhumane methods to be rid of them. They have to go.

              2. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

              3. I advocate taking your progtard relatives to the vet immediately to be put down. Or putting them on chartered boats to Antarctica. Whichever works better for you.

Seriously though, the number of progressives in this country IS the problem. There will be incremental decreases in freedom and liberty as long as that situation exists. It’s a simple math problem. If you see recognition of that simple fact as being ‘disturbed’, then so be it.

It is becoming increasingly likely that the two outcomes to this situation are slavery, or revolution. I gather from your attitude that slavery is ultimately preferable. It is not for me.

    2. to paraphrase John McCain..

Why is Chelsea Manning so ugly?

Because Hillary Clinton is her father.

    3. I also hope Chelsea pulls through. I can’t imagine what it’s like dealing with all that torture. She has been through a lot.

  2. Manning should have just set-up a private email server and dumped all of the content on there where it could have been hacked by anyone. Apparently, it’s impossible to prove intent if you do that.

    1. In xe’s case, they won’t bother with any intent crap, he’ll go straight to the pokey.

    2. I was trying to craft a comment to this effect, but yours is fine.

    3. In my estimation, the email scandal is among the least heinous of Clinton’s crimes. Renting out US federal government power to foreign states and their autocrats, selling nuclear material in exchange for cash infusions into her slush fund, throwing US “diplomatic” personal to the wolves and then throwing a patsy under the bus along with the notion of free speech in order to expand the power of Islamist enemies of these United States probably all rank higher on the list of evil shit this cunt has done.

And this is just the stuff we know about.Clinton takes the concept of “impunity” to a whole new level. She would unquestionably be the most blatantly corrupt sociopath to ever sit in the Oval Office and that is quite a feat.

      1. Of course, the purpose of the private email server was to conceal all that bribery, so it was an essential component.

      2. Beyond what Microaggressor said, the emails were all about dodging federal record keeping laws.

I keep trying to wrap my head around the intent thing and there apparently my puny brain can’t compute the next level logic of the claim. Beyond the laws against negligently doing what she did, there’s the other evidence that is a big blinking arrow indicating intent.

There’s nothing I could imagine them finding short of a detailed confession that would have constituted intent. They weren’t even looking for reasons not to indict as much as they had rationalizations before hand and were just going through the motions to make it look somewhat legitimate.

        1. And since when has the FBI or the DoJ given half a flying fuck about a mens rea requirement to prosecute someone? Oh right, since Hilary Clinton.

      3. selling nuclear material in exchange for cash infusions into her slush fund

        Cite please.

    1. Yeah, that was pretty much my exact first impression. Way to buck the trends Bradley.

That OpEd was nearly unreadable as well. In all fairness though, I imagine that guy has a lot of mental problems if he didn’t already have enough of them. A national prosecution, imprisoned in Leavenworth, heckled for his issues, and all the rest can’t be easy. He definitely has more reason than most to attempt the Big S.

The fact Hillary just walked for doing something at least somewhat similar probably didn’t help; especially considering Bradley looks like a more attractive woman than Hillary and always has. That’s gotta grate on him on a lot of levels.

      1. Also, unless they have Bradley in solitary for his own protection I could see this being the result of some Leavenworth chuckleheads idea of ‘fixing’ him; permanent like.

    2. Inmates also have higher suicide rates than the general population.

      1. The report shows 46 self-inflicted deaths per 100,000 inmates at local jails, which are usually operated at the county level. At state prisons, 5.5 percent of deaths ? 15 per 100,000 inmates ? were ruled a suicide, which is just slightly above the national average of 12.6 per 100,000 people in the general U.S. population.

        vs.=

The prevalence of suicide attempts among respondents to the National Transgender Discrimination Survey (NTDS)…is 41 percent, which vastly exceeds the 4.6 percent of the overall U.S. population who report a lifetime suicide attempt, and is also higher than the 10-20 percent of lesbian, gay and bisexual adults who report ever attempting suicide.

Noted = they’re comparing ‘actual suicides’ to ‘attempts’ there in the % numbers.

However, when you compare the “success rate” – you have 800 per 100,000 actual suicides among transgender population, compared to ~20 for the overall LGBT, ~15 or so for the prison population, and 10-12 for the general population

The point there is – no matter how you measure it, Trans people have by far the most astoundingly-high rate of suicide of almost any group of people on earth.

        1. btw – the #s cited at the end there are all rounded; the studies referenced all tend to use different base figures, and will vary depending on the year conducted or the methodology, but the relative proportions between the figures tend to be the same across them; i.e. a 20-30% higher prevalence among prisoners, a 75-100% higher prevalence amongst LGBT, and an absurd many-100sX multiple for Trans people which bears almost no reasonable comparison to anything …. except maybe schizophrenics

        2. Trans people have by far the most astoundingly-high rate of suicide of almost any group of people on earth.

I hear Greenland is pretty bad but, yeah, as a self-selecting group Transpersons are high on the list.

        3. I’d be curious to see if the incidence is higher among one kind of trans over another. (Man to Woman Trans vs. Woman to Man Trans) This is simply because men have a much higher successful suicide rate than women, even though women tend to try more often. I’d be curious if that carries over across the trans-divide or if it more reflects their chosen gender or their actual gender.

Ultimately though, it’s just really sad all around. Apparently the mentally ill are just being told they’re normal these days. Where does one draw the line between delusion, fantasy, and reality I wonder? How is it any less strange if I self-identify as a Horse, a cat, or a tiny black man when I’m a 6’4 ginger? *shrug* I’m not looking for answers necessarily, I just think it’s a bizarro subjectivist movement that can’t define anything but wants to dictate a lot.

          1. I’d be curious to see if the incidence is higher among one kind of trans over another. (Man to Woman Trans vs. Woman to Man Trans)

man-to-woman is like 10-to-1 in terms of frequency, so they vast bulk of incidence is going to be that. (and probably accounts for the higher overall rate)

The latter (women to man) is so small that minor variation will throw #s out of whack. I think there’s little you can say about the woman-to-man trans-people without doing a specific study just of that pop over a longer period of time.

      2. MJG really does sound like a Prog. I get it now.

  3. I look forward to the calm and dispassionate discussion about to follow.

    1. Well someone will have to bring up the transgender suicide stats, but with the confound that she is serving a prison sentence for a crime committed while she was a he. And since in those previous two sentences there was enough material to give a tranny SJW an apoplectic trigger episode none of this matters anyway.

      1. So, you’re saying that not everyone can successfully do a ‘Bruce Jenner’?

        1. Well, if Manning had just killed someone, xe would be a free person today.

          1. Herself? She’s working on herself.

  4. The Op-Ed actually raised some valid concerns, nothing good will come from taking them seriously though.

  5. I still want to know how Manning managed to xerox her face while she was driving. That takes skill.

    1. Like you’ve never applied the mimeograph filter on your Instagram selfies.

  6. If only every for profit business would have installed a third, gender neutral bathroom, then we could stop all the problems with our economy.

    1. I’m for it, with the incentive that they are never ever again importuned by the IRS for any reason.

  7. Poor thing.

  8. First, I hope that he (oops!) is OK.

Second, I guess this is not particularly original, but maybe if he’d simply identified as a major-party Presidential candidate he’d never have gone to prison in the first place.

    1. I’d like to identify as a Clinton. That way if any cishet shitlord tries to charge me for a crime, they would be refusing to acknowledge my identity, which is literally erasing my experiences and personhood and a violation of my civil rights.

  9. …they were “shocked and outraged” that somebody talked to the press with confidential information…

    In Obama’s America…

    1. This seems like actual irony, for once.

  10. This thread is empty without a “would?” ruling from Crusty.

    1. Well, last night someone ‘woulded’ a sheep. I’m not sure that Crusty can follow that act.

    2. Would hope she improves and recovers, because it is not pleasant to try and kill yourself.

  11. Normally I am not very sympathetic to Manning. But after yesterday, fuck it. The need to at the very least commute his sentence.

    1. I say we go the other direction and have whiny catered sit ins and engage in other nonsense childishness until Hillary is executed for treason.

  12. Oh look, I made myself into an ugly girl and cut off my wee wee, and now no one is paying attention to me, waah! Sorry, not much empathy here. I don’t want anything to happy to hi… he… oh whatever, just saying when you play these type of games, it might not turn out all as well as you thought, and who is to blame?

  13. She must have read the California ballot initiatives

  14. She heard about Clinton’s emails and lost her faith in humanity.

Incidentally, was Clinton SoS at the time that Manning was leaking to Wikileaks?

    1. Indeed, she was….

Ladies and gentlemen, the contrast could not be starker. This is what happens to the little people when you do what the aristocracy does as a matter of course.

      1. It really couldn’t be made much clearer than what Comey made it yesterday.

      2. Lynch/Comey (the Clinton Machine) et al would simply argue that Chelsea (then Bradley) had intent where Clinton did not.

      3. And about 90% of what he leaked was already in the public domain. But he embarrassed the powers that be and that got him life.

I am not going to defend him. He was totally stupid to do what he did. But even I as the judge would not have given him life. I would have given him a dishonorable and maybe 10 years. Manning is a screwed up moron who should have never been able to get himself into that much trouble had his supervisors not been negligent in the first place.

        1. But even I as the judge would not have given him life. I would have given him a dishonorable and maybe 10 years. Manning is a screwed up moron who should have never been able to get himself into that much trouble had his supervisors not been negligent in the first place.

          ^This^

As fucked up as Manning has consistently proven itself to be his superiors are at least as much to blame.

        2. Yeah, the military ended up looking like a bunch of assholes over the whole thing. As it was a colossal failure in basic security protocols.

    2. I’m holding out hope that Trump will somehow pull off a ginormous lead in the polls so that Hillary will come out as a tranny and marry Huma. This shit is getting boring.

      1. The never Trump people on National Review are saying that the Hillary email thing doesn’t matter because Trump U was just as criminal. No kidding. They are that stupid. Selling out the country as secretary of state is totally the same thing as selling real estate investment classes that didn’t get everyone who took them rich.

If nothing else, I owe Trump a huge thank you for opening my eyes to just how stupid many Republicans are. Holy cow, I actually thought Republicans were on the whole brighter than Progs. Boy was I wrong about that.

        1. A quick glance over there shhows a lot of crticism of her and nothing about the great pumpkin. If you think trump wouldn’t do exactly as hillary has, you have truly reached a new state of orange.

          1. I mean the commenters not the staff. The staff has been very critical. Their commenters not so much.

Sorry not to make that clear.

          2. If you think trump wouldn’t do exactly as hillary has, you have truly reached a new state of orange.

Well I think he’ll say offensive things and he’ll say dumb things and he’ll say untrue things and I think he’ll promote some bad policies from an economic standpoint. But I have no reason to think that he’ll negligently mishandle classified data, sell nuclear materials to foreign powers in exchange for funds deposited in his personal account, that he’ll rent out US power to the whims of foreign potentates or that he’ll allow the slaughter of US diplomatic personnel and toss some patsy under the bus while he vows to tear down free speech to promote the interests of a barbaric religion which is hellbent on destroying all of western civilization.

I’m not saying he couldn’t do those things, he is running for Chief Psychopath after all. I just have no reason to think that he will, unlike Clinton for whom I have every reason to believe it.

            1. Exactly that free society. The Never Trump people live in fantasy land where they just know Trump will do all of this evil stuff and that somehow makes up for the reality of Hillary’s criminality. It is just pathetic.

              1. Trump has explicitly said he will do evil stuff.

                1. Yes, but he won’t be able to very effectively, since he has no idea how Babylon actually works. Hillary is Babylon. She already has legions of supporters spread throughout the federal apparatus waiting to do her bidding. Trump will be a terrible, impotent jackass. Hillary will be a terrible dictator.

          3. I don’t think Trump is guilty of treason. I see no evidence that he has ever sold out the country the way Hillary did. Would he? I don’t know. But the voices inside my head don’t have access to Trump’s inner most intentions the way your’s apparently do.

        2. I don’t give a shit about Trump U.
I give a shit about Trump’s morally repugnant and economically disasterous political agenda.

        3. I got off the Republican bus in 2003. Medicare Part D. And they haven’t sounded all that bright since. They showed their full on statist stripes at that time. The establishment GOP placed themselves just to the left of JFK at that time. That’s when I knew we were in for the “long fuck”. The establishment is about to achieve orgasm.

      2. I’m holding out for an 11th hour reveal of a Huma/Ivanka sex tape.

    3. I wonder if she slapped the chicken nuggets out of the guard’s hands too.

    4. Look, the kid did the RIGHT thing, just like Snowden. There is no draft, thanks to the LP. But folks need to know that even if the GOP arranges another asset-forfeiture crash and depression to drive up unemployment to sequester cannon fodder for their Crusades… DON’T do it. Do not expect justice or rights at the hands of murderers hired by mystical genocide fanatics for the express purpose of violating rights a planetary diameter away.
And I’d offer 3 to 2 odds the nazis are lying, but they’d put us in there too, for being gamblers. And even if they didn’t, where would we find evidence with which to settle the bet?
Oh… and if you do READ those emails, much of the material is about the exporting of asset-forfeiture fanaticism to destroy other economies abroad and recoup ours by shorting their securities and currency markets.

      1. Holy shit you need help.

  15. So?

  16. Suicide attempts are alarmingly common among transgender individuals such as Lampe; 41% try to kill themselves at some point in their lives, compared with 4.6% of the general public.

But it’s like totally not a mental disorder. And stuff.

    1. It’s only because libertarians are so mean and lacking in empathy. If we could only ban this hate speech…

      1. Don’t flatter yourself. There aren’t enough libertarians to matter.

        1. In 1904 there weren’t enough commie anarchists to matter. Five years later Manifesto Plank 2 was on its way to being ratified as the 16th Amendment. Just coincidence that, after Billy Bryan’s Christian National Socialists got some 8% of the vote in 1892, Congress started working on another income tax, and Shazam! Panic of 1893, just like that.

    2. Chelsea Manning’s transgenderism (word?) is more the old-timey traditional version which departs starkly from the modern definition (which seemed to come about suddenly, and all within the last 6 -12 months. I suspect that Manning’s type will continue to be quietly called a mental disorder. I say quietly because no one will want to get into the political quagmire of re-differentiating, and there’s an incentive to keep it a mental disorder so that your ‘treatment’ can be paid by insurance or the taxpayer.

I happen to be in the camp that believes that whatever ‘version’ of transgender Chelsea falls into, is a mental disorder which leaves people conflicted and suffering. All the other non-binary/ change-on-a-whim /use-this-pronoun-or-you’re-othering-me crap is mainly for attention getting.

Also, we know jack shit about the suicide attempt. Realistically, it may have more to do with being in prison for the rest of her life than it has to do with her identity issues.

      1. True. But Gillmore’s statistic about 41% of the transgendered trying suicide says a lot. It is a mental disorder and a nasty one at that.

        1. That or a natural reaction to being caged by paranoid mystical bigots.

          1. 41% of the transgendered are caged? Who’s paranoid again?

      2. Also, we know jack shit about the suicide attempt. Realistically, it may have more to do with being in prison for the rest of her life than it has to do with her identity issues.

Bullshit. This is the internet, smart guy, and here we jump to preconceived conclusions.

        1. You know why I know you’re being sarcastic? You called me “smart guy”.

          1. I call you He Whose Head is Up His Own Ass Less Than Most.

            1. Now you’re all just trolling me.

      3. Chelsea Manning’s transgenderism (word?) is more the old-timey traditional version which departs starkly from the modern definition (which seemed to come about suddenly, and all within the last 6 -12 months.

        This is sarcasm, right?

“Chelsea Manning’s transgenderism departs starkly from the vague undefined transgenderism that *I’d* never heard of until reading this forum just now.”

“The violently homicidal Jihadism is a stark departure from the more traditional religion of peace.”

        1. I’m not sure what you’re getting at, so I’ll answer by assuming what you’re getting at:

Coming Out as Genderqueer Non-Binary (Outside Of and Within the Queer Community)

I was on my way home when I passed a person I frequently see outside of my favorite coffee shop.

The person stopped me, and with a confused look on their face, they asked, “Yo, so I see you around here all the time. But?like?are you a boy or a girl?”

I paused for a moment, thought about it, and responded, “Both!”

          Gender.

Gender is a messy, complex, and ever-shifting experience for me.

          http://everydayfeminism.com/20…..nderqueer/

For Chelsea (Bradley) Manning, I don’t think it was complex and ever shifting. Nor for Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner. They felt they were women inside a man’s body. The end. They are now Women. Full stop.

          1. That clarifies what you were saying but I still think you’re making a distinction without a difference.

For Chelsea (Bradley) Manning, I don’t think it was complex and ever shifting. Nor for Caitlyn (Bruce) Jenner.

What is the stability of gender? Isn’t gender an inherently unstable concept ? always being constrained by the various context and rules under which we live?

Manning and Jenner *could* be in it as much for the attention as the polygendered elemental otherkin or the feminist genderqueer outside the coffee shop. Just as, if not more importantly from a libertarian perspective Manning/Jenner have clearly demonstrated, on one level, that they are or could be a danger to themselves or others on an individual whereas the polygendered elemental otherkins and genderqueer feminists have clearly demonstrated plenty of viability as a collection of useful idiots.

At best you’re trying to separate the wheat from the chaff after it’s passed through the bull.

            1. Crap. End the blockquote after Manning’s quote about gender instability.

              1. At the end of this road I suspect we’ll end up with that certification process, a system of precedents set by lawsuits that you can’t discriminate but with a special category set aside for the Bradley Manning types so as to preserve their right to have their surgeries and treatments covered, and with no pathway for someone to commit gender ‘fraud’ and get bennies by simply checking a box on an application.

            2. Look, I’m not the one making the rules here.

From the 1970s (using my own experience) up until very recently, there was this category of “trans” that was generally understood to mean a very confused person who at some point decided they were the “wrong” sex, went through a fuck ton of therapy, hormone treatments and then surgery and became the opposite sex.

Then quite recently, we have been schooled and instructed that it’s all a social construct, gender is a post-structural concept, lots of finger-snap applause ensued and the next thing we knew, random letters of the alphabet got Jackson Pollocked together and we ended up with LGBTQIA2, with long editorials (just like the one I clipped above) about non-binary, social constructs and fluidity.

I predicted (and there’s evidence to support it) that this would fold in on itself and threaten the Identity Industrial Complex and someone, somewhere, probably with authority and a military to back them up would step in to preserve the status quo while appeasing the activists and create a government-approved certification process.

          2. That’s retarded. Sorry, I mean…no. No. It’s retarded. My mistake.

Specifically the bit where someone is asked if they are a boy or a girl, and their answer is ‘hermaphrodite’. I mean, sure, that may be true but if there are that many people with damaged or defective gene’s we should start an investigation.

Seriously, when did ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ because concepts that define social constructs instead of what may or may not be dangling from where? This brave new world is just a world without language, concepts, truth, or logic. Just sex, pleasure, and identity politics…

            …ah shit, we’re Rome…

            1. *sigh* “Boy and girl become concepts.”

      4. I don’t think there are actually any other people in the “tortured into claiming to be a woman in order to discredit him by government thugs who had no idea that women claiming to be men would very soon become the new royalty” category.

    3. No, it’s not a severe form of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Not one little bit. It’s just ‘diversity’, that must be ‘cherished’.

  17. How many young trans people like myself fit this criteria?

EXTREMELY few young trans people are in prison for treason, Chelsea—in fact, I think there’s just you.

    Yes, just you.

So the answer to your question is ‘none’.

    1. Ah. So perhaps we should look at suicide rates for young people given half a life sentence for victimless crimes.

  18. Isn’t gender an inherently unstable concept ? always being constrained by the various context and rules under which we live?

Not for most of us, Chadley.

    1. Isn’t species an unstable concept – always being constrained by the various context and rules under which we live?

That statement makes about as much sense. If you get off sexually by pretending to be the opposite sex, good for you. Whatever works. Just don’t expect me to play along. That is really all there is to it.

      1. You don’t understand, John. Calling it the mental disorder that it is causes hurt feelings, which is worse than murder. So in the name of fairness hundreds of millions of people must shape their lives around a few thousand people with a mental disorder. Because tolerance, inclusiveness and equality means you are not to be tolerated, included, or treated equally.

        1. Get your victim cards first so you can be last against the wall.

  19. The idea of having a gender certification process is a misuse of the medically accepted standards of care. What is the stability of gender? Isn’t gender an inherently unstable concept ? always being constrained by the various context and rules under which we live?

Interestingly, Ireland which has been hailed by transgender activists as having one of the most progressive transgender policies in the world does exactly this. They have a gender certification process vetted by an unelected bureaucrat. And there’s no category for ‘non-binary’, you is this, or you is that. end of discussion. You can apply to have yours changed, and once accepted, they pour cement around your gender.

    1. But how is someone supposed to cry for attention then?

    2. “Interestingly, Ireland which has been hailed by transgender activists as having one of the most progressive transgender policies in the world”

      [insert Crying Game joke]

    3. You know what other same-gender-related activities Catholic Ireland is famous for?

      1. I don;t think that game works for you. Get some meds.

  20. I’m trying to muster up some sympathy, but all I can find is a word in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

    1. His mistake was not running for President.

      1. Or whistleblowing, if you can call it that, under a Republican administration. A God-Emperor of the People like Obama isn’t afraid to hang a few peasants if it means he can get to his golf course sooner.

        1. Or not whistleblowing under a Republican administration*

  21. Good. Save the taxpayers some money, you traitorous piece of shit.

    1. Spoken like a God-Fearing representative of communist-income-tax loving Ku-Klux Christianity. This, libertarians, is National Socialist Collectivism monitoring and infiltrating your magazine website. Enjoy.

      1. Yes. I’ve noticed the Trump voters as well.

        1. Hazel. You realize you just identified with a severely disturbed nutcase, right?

  22. All this talk, and nobody is discussing the fact that the government cavalierly holds a prisoner incommunicado for a week.

I can fully understand a prison being unable to comply with “put my client on the phone right now”. But “come back in a week” seems …. I don’t know… criminal. An hour or two should be plenty of time to get her on the phone. If she’s so mentally unstable that she can’t talk on the phone, someone should get over there to check on her right away.

You shouldn’t have to go to a habeas corpus motion in order to speak to your client.

    1. Habeas corpus? Isn’t that from that Constitution thing we used to have?

      1. Dude! That thing was written by a bunch of old cis-gendered white dudes over fifty years ago! It don’t mean nothin’!
