5th Place Libertarian Presidential Finisher Marc Allan Feldman Dead at 56
Beloved physician was known for his good humor and 'I'm THAT Libertarian' rap

Of the many odd and wonderful things that happened last month at the Libertarian National Convention in Orlando, one of the oddest and wonderfulest came during the presidential debate, when Marc Allan Feldman, a diminutive wiseacre anesthesiologist at the Cleveland Clinic beloved by virtually every squabbling camp under the Libertarian big tent, chose as his closing statement to uncork this unlikely unity rap:
Such were the good vibes for Feldman that presidential nominee Gary Johnson asked Feldman to give a nominating speech for controversial vice presidential pick William Weld. Feldman agreed in the spirit of unity, though even he could barely muster a kind word for the eventual VP nominee.
Feldman, 56, was found dead yesterday in a Brook Park motel, reported The Plain Dealer. Causes of death are currently unknown. Libertarian National Committee Chair Nicholas Sarwark spread the sad news on Facebook:
The world is a darker place this morning. We have lost one of the lights of the Libertarian Party, Dr. Marc Allan Feldman. My deepest condolences go out to his family on their loss.
I had the privilege of working with Dr. Feldman on the Libertarian National Committee. After growing up in Washington, D.C., cynical about politics and politicians, he spent most of his adult life not even voting.
In the Libertarian Party, he found a politics of empowering people to be their best selves, free from the control of governments and bureaucrats. It spoke to him in a way that awakened something. He was tireless and dedicated to sharing that vision with everyone he met, but most importantly, with those who didn't participate, didn't vote, and didn't have a voice.
"I'm shocked and saddened to hear this unfortunate news," wrote fellow presidential contestant John McAfee on Facebook. "Less than a month ago, we share[d] the Libertarian National stage together. I had tears of laughter while listening to this outstanding Libertarian Rap routine. Today, I have tears of a different kind. We will all miss him. Remember this man and his words. They apply to us all. He was our kind of Libertarian.
Over at The Libertarian Republic, Avens O'Brien posts Feldman's 20-minute presidential campaign video, in which he talks about his life story.
RIP.

What a shame; such a nice guy, and we quixotically wasted his last few years in politics.
..er he wasted his last few years...
Nah, *we* wasted them.
But what did he expect? We're *libertarians*.
It might be that tie that ultimately killed him.
RIP, Doc.
That's a symbiote, not a tie. Its head, shaped like a windsor, rests on the his vocal chords to give him mad rap skillz. I am sure the symbiote will be buried with him (or cremated, if Dr. Feldman is not observant).
Huh, only 56? He did look a bit older, and IIRC he was an anaesthesiologist, yes? I hope he wasn't mixing "cocktails" and accidentally made some viciously potent chocolate milkshake propofol. He seemed more like a monster eggnog with lighter fluid kind of guy.
RIP Dr. Feldman.
Anesthesiologists get the best shit.
That's sort of what I was thinking.
If a libertarian dies in a motel room, is there ever a non-sinister explanation?
I guess the question is whether Johnson likes the personal touch or whether this is why Weld got the nod.
You'd think that if there were in this case, an explanation of why he was there would've been included.
"That living in your mom's basement libertarian."
Poor fellow, he really took Gary Johnson Bombing out in the CNN Townhall yesterday to heart.
Hillary done it.
Bad news. We need more politicians who refuse to take themselves seriously. RIP.
I blame Bush.
Dang.
It's BOOOOOOOOOOOSH!, dammit. Get it right, Rusty.
Sorry to hear that. Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I feel there are many reasons to be hopeful about the party's future prospects.
I've made $64,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student. Im using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it. Heres what I do,

Met him at LPTexas convention, and even gave him the maximum campaign contribution that he allowed (a $5 bill) after his debate performance. He's the only LP presidential candidate that's gonna get a cent out of me.
A great guy. Very sad to learn of his passing. RIP.
He doesn't even take stripper amounts of cash?
Hero.
RiP
He mentioned at the LP convention that his daughter was getting married soon (wife and daughter were doing bridal shower things while he was in Orlando). Hope he had an opportunity to see his daughter married. I followed him on Twitter and he was just posting the a day ago. He was the kind of guy that left everyone better off for knowing him.
He reminded us all of why we do this: to empower each other. When I took a photo with him at the Florida Annual Meeting on April 9th he stood on a chair to not seem so short. I have nothing but love for that man. I am saddened that Orlando was the last time I shall ever see him.
RIP Dr. Feldman. What a tragic loss. We'll keep the flame of liberty burning.
Aww. He was one of the bright spots of watching the LP on CSPAN over memorial day weekend.
This is very sad, I had only just seen him a few months back at a libertarian meeting. His passion for libertarianism was very refreshing to witness. RIP Dr. Feldman.
Yikes. Gotta be more to this story. Anybody from Cle, well, those Brookpark motels...
