When Social Justice Education Is Mandatory, But Math Is Not
Diversity courses are required. Math, not so much.

At the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, studying "social justice" is a prerequisite for graduation.
Students are required to take two diversity courses, according to The College Fix. One of the purposes of these courses is to encourage students to "create change toward social justice," according to UMass-Amherst's website.
The College Fix is also reporting that Wayne State University, a public university in Detroit, has abolished its college-wide math requirement. At the same time, faculty at the university are proposing a mandatory 3-credit diversity course.
If students would rather study diversity than math, that should be up to them. And for some students who want to become social justice activists, the former sort of classes is probably more important. But it really does seem strange to make the study of math less of a priority than the study of narrow left-wing activism. Is the purpose of college to equip students with useful skills, or to brainwash them?

"Is the purpose of college to equip students with useful skills, or to brainwash them?"
Really ?? Why stop now - you've been doing it for the past twelve years.
I just took it as a rhetorical question.
Wayne State University, a public university in Detroit, has abolished its college-wide math requirement. At the same time, faculty at the university are proposing a mandatory 3-credit diversity course.
The state of Michigan should just defund the university until such time as it reverses this self-evidently ludicrous position. I'm sure they could find a more worthwhile use for the money.
Ideally, they'd defund them for the next academic year and just dare them to renew these requirements rather than allowing them to backtrack quickly and quickly reinsert the public teat into their suckling gums...
Math is racist, sexist, and classist. It's also intolerant, since there is only one correct answer to a given problem (though that final answer may comprise of discrete, individual solution sets).
But in SJW land since 2+2 == 5.25678 because "FEELZ!" and "ANYTHING I DEFINE IS NOW SO!" I guess that is now old hat, yes?
Driving is sexist too.
Here's the parking lot at Jezebel's corporate headquarters.
It's clear someone thought backing into the space was a good idea.
We need a racial, ethnic, and religious breakdown of this!!!!! We cannot have *ANY*, "Unfortunate Implications," stemming from someone of SJW Protected Status confirming any stereotypes.
Also, was there a Florida Man or Woman involved?
Something something THIS is why there are no libertarian women.
They're all out in the parking lot exchanging insurance info.
You owe me a shot that I just spit all over the bar. Also, a tip for the bar tender, who is giving me dirty looks.
I lol'd, damn that was good.
I have to give the universities credit. They're going the way of the original definition of "liberal arts education" as it was defined by the aristocracy of old. A useful education was shunned at all costs because practical subjects were considered the baileywick of the dirty working and merchant classes.
Studying letters, philosophy, art and music were the areas of study for those that would never have to work for a living.
Well done.
Studying letters, philosophy, art and music were the areas of study for those that would never have to work for a living.
Indeed; it amazes me how many young people in Euro-landia (particularly USA kids studying abroad) seem to think they qualify as, "Aristocracy." Nevermind the USA kids who think they are suddenly rich because of a poorly chosen student loan.
They are sorely mistaken, with the exception of trust fund kids and those who are in line for a large inheritance.
"I must study Politicks and War that my sons may have liberty to study Mathematicks and Philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematicks and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture, in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, musick, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelaine." John Adams
Can you get credit for banging an ugly chick?
Your mother wasn't quite sure...
Sure, but only if it's your professor or ta.
If she wears mattress on her back as part of an independant study project the answer is no.
I loved my core classes. /sarc
While they were easy As the requirements bumped my engineering degree up to needing a minimum of138 credits.
Yep , took me about a week to realize I could make a c just by showing up on test days. That math was EASY. Sociology is for suckers.
If students would rather study diversity than math, that should be up to them.
Yes, and I don't want to hear one fucking whinge about not being able to find meaningful employment when they're 29 and still living at home.
It's not them studying diversity that bugs me, it's that they then demand us people who studied math should be forced (at gunpoint) to pay for their queer basket weaving and afro-chicano literary justice theory degrees.
I'd like to see the SJW's try to balance their checkbooks using social justice.
I believe Bernie Sanders' entire campaign was built around balancing Uncle Sam's checkbook using social justice.
Who? Isn't he an architect or something? An SJW one, where numbers and blueprints are subject to interpretation?
Not only would you see, but you would feel it too.
How old are you?! Balancing their checkbook isn't something anyone born after 1981 has ever really had to do.
Indeed; now, delaying gratification to pay off those student loans, however (which they should have known the payment schedule before they even declared their Major in Registration), appears to be the sort of higher maths that are lacking these days...
Nah, it's all auto draft with real time detail online 24/7. It's all scheduled so you don't have to think about it.
It's all scheduled so you don't have to think about it.
We now have identified the etiology of this disease process. Antibiotics don't fix stupid.
One could argue that establishing a process through which menial tasks are completed without thought is progress.

One could argue that establishing a process through which menial tasks are completed without thought is progress.
The sqvirrels are in complete agreement, apparently
However, because there is no attention to detail, or more importantly, *WHY* said, "menial tasks," are important is key. Malcolm Gladwell also claimed, and I happen to agree, that for true mastery of a given task, that task had to be repeated 10,000 times, on average (and it took me many, many hours to get to the point of both suturing and incising totally automatic).
For example, the hospitals where I worked in The States, everything was, for the most part, e-charting, e-scrpt, e-orders, etc. At which most were quite fluent... except during IT Down Time, where everything had to be entered and charted Old School. Much like good old fashioned budgeting and accounting, where the figures are concrete and not abstract.
Putting it in Millenial Speak, "You may not always have that SmertPhone handy."
*considers all the things I've done 10,000 times*
Well, I've got most bodily functions covered.
The important stuff, at least.
Checks are barbaric technology anyway. 😉
Budgeting, however, is a necessary skill....
I haven't used checks for about 10 years. Harder to bounce them that way.
SJW's make over $12 an hour with their fellow English majors at Starbucks.

For now...
I'm betting the robot Barista won't kill my shots like the living ones do.
Robot Barista can't make the Hillary Clinton moving forward logo with the cappucino froth topping. Masters degree in Wealth Redistribution earns his mandated living wage with that particular display.
Yes, but the robot Bartender will never over-pour one or swing a First Round, either. Your single shot drinks will be just that. Tips and tits are ineffective.

I regret ever thinking it was a good thing that young people were becoming concerned about social issues. I thought maybe they'd apply it to the arts and storytelling! We'd have a generation that was more likely to think about how other people experienced the world, instead of just from their own perspective. Live and let live! Less pressure to conform and less judgement about personal choices that don't affect anyone else!
Nah, it's authoritarian narcissism all the way down. Get forcibly woke, bro.
they'd apply it to the arts and storytelling!
Did Mattress Girl and Jackie not excel in storytelling?

Sure, so does every time you watch an ncaa broadcast.
OT: Clinton Crushing Donald by 12 Points in New National Poll
A new Bloomberg Politics national poll shows Clinton leading Trump 49 percent to 37 percent among likely voters in November's election, with 55 percent of those polled saying they could never vote for the real-estate developer and TV personality.
[snip]
Other troubling findings for Trump in poll include how 63 percent of women say they could never vote for him.
Similar proportions of those younger than 35 and those with incomes of less than $50,000 also say they could never support him.
Trailing Clinton and Trump is Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson. The former New Mexico governor recorded 9 percent among likely voters, below the 15-percent average he'd need in national polls to be included in this year's presidential debates.
How things play out in the dozen or so battleground states that typically decide presidential elections may be more important than broad national trends, but some indicators are telling. Clinton dominates with many of the groups typically important in general elections, winning the support of 57 percent of women, 58 percent of those who aren't married, and 77 percent of non-whites.
Great job, Republicans!
Putin, release Hillary's emails. You're our only hope.
His ace in the hole? His having her by the short and curlies? Shirley joking, you are, yes?
That aside, Herself's dominance of The Vag Vote was never in question: It's HER turn in this here 2016 Year of Plumbing Politics. The rest is just icing on the cake, even if Troomp was not the presumptive TEAM RED nominee...
Sadly, there is so much truth here. Another 8 years of heavy drinking and wondering when baby boomers will all die.
It's one poll and it's early. No need to bury your guns in the backyard yet.

IT'S EDUCATIONAL!

There doesn't appear to be a diversity of gender amongst the four candidates. Winning!
And they do this by whining about entertainment media on Twitter for the stupidest reasons. #NotBuyingIt
I asked the internet "what is diversity?"
It told me = noun, plural diversities.
1. The state or fact of being diverse; difference; unlikeness:
diversity of opinion.
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/diversity
"Diversity of opinion."
It this is so, then having an opinion that you are opposed to taking these 'diversity courses,' is part of diversity and you should be able to graduate.
Diversity of opinion is intolerance, and tolerant people don't tolerate intolerance.
Diversity of opinion is a tell tale sign of the tolerance of intolerance.
People who celebrate inclusiveness do not include diverse opinions. Diversity in appearance and sexuality only. Diversity of opinion is a sign of inferiority, and people who celebrate equality only surround themselves with their equals.
What they want is LETELU: Looks exotic, thinks exactly like us.
Needs more identity...

Nothing about rednecks and warhawks?
I've never seen rednecks and others so openly supportive of gays and sympathetic as I have since this tragedy. We have to do something to protect our LGBT from the terrorists, y'all!
I guess that's a story the Seattle Times will never print.
It's easy to explain - people died.
It's the left that insists on balkanizing everyone.
There weren't any gay Latins?
What is Ricky Martin, chopped liver?

Well, if diversity training is what employers are looking for, then I guess Amherst and Wayne State are just responding to market forces.
All kidding aside, I'm guessing they expect graduates to go work for the government or something.
If it weren't for easy government provided student loans, would there even be a market for the outrageously expensive liberal arts college?
My God, Amherst is charging $65,000 a year.
https://www.amherst.edu/offices/controller/ student-accounts/tuition-and-fees
If they work for the government for 10 years, paying minimums, their student debt evaporates.
Why WOULDNT they work for the government.
And Obama's worried about the for profit colleges taking advantage of gullible kids?!
Amherst is charging kid $230,000 for a degree in gender studies.
Where's the task force to look into that?
Didn't Michelle Obama get compensated with six figures a year for doing basically that at a hospital?
Eventually, market forces take over. No task force necessary.
I was being facetious.
UMass-Amherst is not Amherst College.
Jus' sayin'
Although Amherst is probably more proggie than UMass.
Attempting to determine which of the Pioneer Valley 5 is the most Prog is like debating how many angels can stand on the head of a pin.
If you're bored, you can go watch this epic ass beating being received by Rolling Stone. For once, I definitely recommend reading the comments:
Rolling Stone needs a hug and a teddy bear
Magnificent. Suthenboy worthy, but needs more tobasco and okra.
I revere the document when it is used to further social justice and make our country a more inclusive one. I admire the Founders for establishing a representative democracy that has survived for over two centuries.
So, three constitutional errors in the first two sentences.
He's also a law prof not a historian which is not helping him.
Bio: http://drexel.edu/law/faculty/fulltime_fac/David Cohen/
I went to college with him.
Outside of politics he wasn't a bad person, but damn was he an obnoxious jerk about politics.
Well, that's good to know. It's true of a lot of academics.
Those who are first and foremost concerned with politics almost always lack principles.
You went to the Big Green, Ted?
Freshman fall I was in Multivariable Calculus with Jay Fiedler.
The shitty professor sucked all the love of math out of me, which is part of what led me to become a Russian major.
They closed Peter Christian's. Now you have to go to New London. I didn't go to Dartmouth, but I loved P.C.'s.
You hated math so much you joined the Russian army?
Drexel's law school is extremely low ranked. Like, well outside the top 100.
You mean (((David Cohen))).
Shit, this alt-right nonsense is fun. Do they have any more secret codes? Cuckservative has to be all played out by now, right?
Hmm...you'd think. From what I've seen, there are still some trying to get mileage out of it.
I'm pretty much convinced that all the secret decoder-ring nonsense is due to the large over-representation of gay men in the Dork Enlightenment. Having spent years talking in code to find some down-low brotha willing to fuck them in the ass while their dressed in a pink babydoll, they can't help but to carry it over to their newest sexual fetish.
*they're
What about cockservative?
I'm confused. What do the parentheses mean?
Jew. I think they're supposed to evoke a jokingly-menacing sort of echo sound effect.
Ahhhh..... now I get it. Sort of.
I think they're supposed to evoke a jokingly-menacing sort of echo sound effect.
Odd. They used to mean, "Hugz."
Ah, the AOL-era. It was a more innocent time. When things were honest. And pure. Like baseball or going to the ice cream parlor with your steady girl.

Eventually; we had Prodigy first, then AOL. Dating myself a tad, no? *grins*
I remember in college, you could go to the computer lab and play a text map based D&D game. By which I mean the map was drawn from ascii characters, like walls were drawn with |, doors were =, a mold would be M, etc.
The thing they impressed me, that I enthused about to other people, was that I was playing with college students around the world! Our party would have some guy in Japan, one in California, one in new York.
I know it seems corny now, but damn, I saw the birth of the intertubes, and it's pretty fucking cool that we can all meet up and talk with each other.

And, a blowjob may or may not have been sex.
I always think of this
I had heard that the "echo" effect was supposed to symbolize the way in which the actions of the yehudim reverberate down through the ages...
Yes. We all are aware of the actions of yehudim like Ivana Marie (((Zeln??kov?))) Trump, Melania (((Knauss))) Trump, Ivanka Marie "Yael" Trump (((Kushner))), and Lara (((Yunaska))) Trump.
Or did they get their Ehrenarier card already?
You have to admit that "Yael" is a pretty badass Nom de Juif
No doubt. But Yehudit managed to bring the head back to camp with her.
I propose a follow-up article, written by the RS staff-
David Cohen: What an Incredibly Stupid Cunt!
Eh, it'll never get past the editor's desk...
Wow! Nice to RS getting their ass handed to them. For a little fun head over to left PR...I mean NPR and comment about freedom, free markets, the right to defend ones self and property. The proggies go absolutely nuts. Time to get into their safe spaces and put nasty thoughts in their heads that make them feel "othered."
If fucking with those morons is your thing you better get your fill and quick. You know, while it's legal.
I teach the Constitution for a living.
He starts with a blatant and weak argument from authority. What a putz.
Obama was a Constitutional Scholar/Constitutional Professor/Constitutional Attorney.
I know! That's all that matters right?
Never made it to Professor. Senior Lecturer was his position. Lecturer seems to be the right word for him. He is always lecturing us,
Just repeating the crap the progressive commenters on the local leftist newspaper website share.

On a side note:
I think we've found the biggest pussy coward in the U.S.
Seriously, he bruised his shoulder on an AR-15??? GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!!!

What an emotional invalid. I hope his father disowned him for being a complete pussy.
Congratulations, Kuntzman*! You've not only managed to confirm your own bias, but you've also lived up/down to your name!
*should that be (((Kuntzman)))?
How is that even possible? You can rest the charging handle on your nose with no ill effects.
Gun grabbers lie, and that is one giant crock of shit he is peddling.
This guy is way too honest. Calls for an amendment, rather than reading the 2nd disingenuously; admits that the Constitution is only good when it agrees with him... wow.
Man I really hate this rhetorical ploy. That liberty IS secured. It is illegal to kill or interfere with someone enjoying a night with friends and all that. The law acknowledges and protects that liberty. That liberty is exercised regularly. A liberty is not measured by the occasional criminal act against it.
To be fair, I only like the parts of the constitution I agree with, so...
Sheese, two hours ago you were mocking Common Core for including mathematics that employers apparently don't want. Make up your mind!
You don't need math (or intelligence) to be an sjw.
You sure as hell don't need logic or reason. Those two things are the enemy.
Logic and reason are the tools of the white, male patriarchy. You know this.
Of course.
The two tools of the white, male patriarchy are logic and reason. And, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope!
THREE!!! Three tools of the white, male patriarchy!
Bachelor of Science, Diversity Engineering
or to brainwash them?
Someone has figured it out...
Warning, those who want to be 'equal'. This is what happens:
We don't want to be equal!
"The passion for equality is partly a passion for anonymity: to be one thread of the many which make up a tunic; one thread not distinguishable from the others. No one can then point us out, measure us against others and expose our inferiority."
Eric Hoffer
It's been done.

You know who else didn't read the comments?
Not Lucy.
Haley?
Postrel?
[sigh]
It's gonna be a busy night for derp. Looks like it's the same bullshit arguments, as usual:
"When the Second Amendment was adopted in 1791, there were no weapons remotely like the AR-15 assault rifle and many of the advances of modern weaponry were long from being invented or popularized."
There weren't any cell phones or TVs either.
"Just think of what would have happened in the Orlando night-club Saturday night if there had been many others armed. In a crowded, dark, loud dance club, after the shooter began firing, imagine if others took out their guns and started firing back. Yes, maybe they would have killed the shooter, but how would anyone else have known what exactly was going on?"
A better question is why do mass shootings ALWAYS happen in gun-free zones.
"A mass movement of those who will thumb their nose at the NRA, an organization that is nothing more than the political wing of the country's gun manufacturers, and say enough is enough."
First off, this is a sentence fragment, Perfesser Smartypants. Second, the vast majority of the NRA's budget comes from individual owners, not gun makers.
"Watch 4 pro-gun arguments we're sick of hearing."
No. Fuck you in the ass, mouth, and eye.
This!
Thank you, my good man. Needed that laugh.
Blaming guns for mass shootings is like blaming Zyklon B for the Holocaust
Make sure it's in that order.

wtf?
That's why the FSM invented the right cross.
Major NAP violation, beat down in order.
Kids are beginning to realize that they shouldn't borrow themselves into penury to go to second-rate shit schools like UMass anyway. This problem is going to solve itself soon enough.
I'd suggest starting out with a 2 year STEM degree at Any Old U. Skip the retard, make money.
2 year STEM degree
...What?
You've never heard of an AAS degree?
I thought those were just for social workers.
Sarcasm?
Goddamn am I ever glad that I got my liberal arts degree 12 years ago, before it became Received Wisdom that anyone with such a degree is relegated to being a leftist barista on public assistance.
I'd hate for my life to have turned out like that, instead of being a fairly successful person who has never been on welfare and paid off his student loans within a few years.
Who's claiming that everyone with a liberal arts degree cannot be successful? I know plenty of people with a liberal arts degree, or no degree at all, who are very successful.
Yeah you're right, all these Robby posts are full of people encouraging kids to get history degrees, and not endless paeans to the boundless glory of STEM uber-alles.
I don't know how to make the umlaut. Seriously, I've seen people do it on here. HOW THE HELL DO YOU DO THAT?
?
YOU LEARN HTML IN STEMZ CLASS!!!!
On Mac it's Option-u, u.
On Windows it's Alt-0252 (I think?).
I tried the html route, but it gave me the, "Your comment does not appear to be written in an English script" error.

Odessa is The Pearl of The Black Sea, you know... Also, it's very late here, and I probably won't get any sleep (babies are keeping us up all night).
As for your second comment, if I said that here, I would disappear. Odessa is one of the few Russified cities where speaking Russian won't get your ass kicked. I *HATE* going to Kiev for that reason.
Eh, they're lucky they got anything east of Poltava. And I include the lower Dnieper with that.
"They're" being the Little Russians.
I tried the alt route, and it gave me the same error.
You need to throw some English in, if you didn't already.

GROOVUS IS A WARLOCK!
BURN HIM!
Which, incidentally, is almost exactly what Dr. Zhena Groovova's relatives said on our wedding day. Some of her relatives were quite put out that I am a man in a furrin' land.
Why?
Why?
Well, they thought she would marry her old BF (who had caused us some grief - he pulled a "TUK UR WIMMINZ" on me), and some of her (ethnically) Russian relatives are not terribly fond of Amerikanskij. Even though I did my best to charm them (and won over my FIL, which was no small feat) some simply will never warm up to me.
As Bruce Hornsby said, "That's just the way it is..."
On Windows it's Alt-0252
Correct, laddie. Unless one is typing on a non-Qwerty USA keyboard.
Like so?
I can make it appear in the comment box, but it won't post.
Maybe a browser related issue?
G?ddammit G?jira. Copy and paste.
I copied. I pasted. I received the same error.
I mean, I'm all for getting your basic education at a bullshit subsidized state school. What I'm asking is, what the fuck is a 2-year STEM degree?
Ok, let's do this again. You do not know what a 2 year STEM degree is, like an AAS?
Don't be bitchy. The streams crossed.
You're talking about the more-or-less apprenticeship things that qualify you to string coax, right? I mean, those are fine for what they're fine for. That's fine if you're old enough to know anything about what you want out of life, or if you're an 18-year-old who has his shit uncommonly together, and you know you want to go into the field you're getting your certificate in. But one shouldn't confuse these things with an education.
I'm not being bitchy, curmudgeon.
When where you born, like 1753?
I have an old soul.
One of the tragedies of the college scam is that it killed apprenticeship programs. There's precisely zero wrong with working in a skilled trade like you suggest. It's ridiculous to have to go to a college and pay a bunch of money and go through some pretend academic nonsense to get into the trade, instead of working and building skill.
Lol, Warty. I have a lot of experience in hiring STEM talent. If you want to know what will get you hired, I'll tell you. Clue, it's not a PhD. It's your ability to tell me right now how the fuck you are going to get the job done and make my company more money. And I don't want to hear about theory, I want to know how you are going to get something done for my clients, right the fuck now.
I learned more on the job in 3 weeks than I did in classes for 4 years.
Isn't that what I just said? Except for the BOOKS R 4 FAGGOTS insecurity part.
Ok. If you say so. Can we just agree that Bog Butter is a thing? Or do I need to prove that also?
Boy, did I misread that at first.
Ewww.
Prove? Sounds like theory to me.
You don't believe in Bog Butter?
This is the right place to have a discussion about epistemology and the uncertainty of certainty. But I'm not gonna.
Some companies with their shit together are reviving apprenticeships in practice. In my own experience, the associate degree in STEM thing is kind of a bonus when hiring technicians. IMO you're better off as an aspirational production worker at a tech company, and maaaaybe doing the education thing on the side as a self-improvement venture rather than viewing it as an ace in the hole in any way.
UmAss.
My son goes to UMass. The other second-rate shit schools would have cost a lot more.

I wish I had a cake I could jump out of.
Too bad there is no cake in which we could stowe you so you could then jump out.
At my workplace there is mandatory training seminars and classes and such when you're hired. They are not required to be taken every year. That is, except for "Diversity and Multiculturalism" training. You have to take or attend a minimum of one class or event to receive a "satisfactory" performance rating. No matter what kind of job you do you cannot get the rating "better than expected" without first taking or attending at least two classes or events. If you want the top rating, "outstanding", again no matter what kind of job you do otherwise, you will not receive this rating without taking or attending at least three multiculturalism and diversity classes or events.
Tell me your company's name so I can short it, please.

Was listening to The Chronic on the drive in to work this morning.
"Daddy. If I had nuts on my chin would those be chin nuts?"
Take a look at this.
University of Wisconsin students to undergo mandatory 'cultural competency training'
Well, there's certainly some symbolic-logic there.
I just wonder if many students will feel an unconscious need to evacuate their bowels whenever talking about social-justice issues.
On the inside of bathroom stall doors I used to post Bristol Stool Scale
Oh, because those won't end up vandalized to hell in back by the first person to use the stall.
Didn't some school recently try re-education with cafeteria placemats, until they were laughed out of the idea? Maybe doubling down on the stoopid will work this time.
The prog will double, triple, ...infinity down.
If students would rather study diversity than math, that should be up to them. And for some students who want to become social justice activists, the former sort of classes is probably more important
C'mon, let's be honest, here. You don't need any education to be a social justice activist, all you have to be is a whiny, entitled brat with more self-regard than sense.
Math is obviously sexist, look at the grade disparity.
Camille Paglia made an interesting point that it's utterly ludicrous that Women's Studies programs don't include a biology requirement. If you're going to have an entire academic field devoted to how half the population is different from the other half, shouldn't there be a requirement for a single introductory course about the biological differences?
"Is the purpose of college to equip students with useful skills, or to brainwash them?"
The purpose of college (as opposed to a technical school, apprenticeship and so-on) has always been to produce well-rounded citizens with a broad education. If you want a narrow education that deep dives into a particular topic and ignores the rest, then a classic four-year college, particularly a four-year college with liberal arts degrees, is not designed for you.
So in the sense that colleges and universities have always had an interest in making sure that their graduates aren't just good *workers*, but good *people*, yes, the purpose is to "brainwash" them. This is not new. Acting like it is just highlights that you're ignorant about the history of universities in America and Europe.
That said: Free Market in action. If you *don't* want to study liberal arts, don't want an education that requires a certain amount of civics and so-on, then go to a school that has "Tech" in the name and you'll probably be fine.
This sounds pretty stupid to me, but what's wrong with having colleges set their own curriculum and letting the "free market" decide where students want to go and how employers view the graduates of the various colleges?
