Friday A/V Club: The Anti-Campaign Song
A respite from all the power seekers
I hate to depress everybody, but we still have half a year of campaigning to endure before we get to Election Day. To take the edge off the spectacle of those power-hungry pols demanding a place in the White House, take a moment to enjoy the opposite of a campaign song. From 1974, here's Percy Mayfield's "I Don't Want to Be the President":
Mayfield also wrote Ray Charles' "Hit the Road, Jack," and I guess that works as an election-year anthem too.

FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
On the bright side, only six more months until the 2020 election campaign season kicks off.
On my 10 min. of NPR this morning they had a spokesperson from the Stop Trump SuperPAC on. He felt that, if Trump got the nomination, HRC would be able to kick back and sip mimosas July-Nov. I found myself torn; I don't think we could get much more Trump and I'm fine with any less HRC.
I feels a lot like the Nth hour of media coverage of 9/11. Except in slow motion and years later so there's no real question about what happens next.
that doesn't really make sense on any level.
Hillary's problem is unifying and motivating the Dem base. I think the idea that millions of Bernie voters and disaffected Dems will come out to vote simply to Oppose Trump? sans any actual encouragement from Grandma? seems a little implausible.
the big problem (for both) this cycle seems to be "'large segments of the voting public 'staying home'" Maybe she can do it with nothing but a 24/7 media blitz, and little actual campaigning. Who knows.
A lot of Bernie supporters don't care what he says or stands for, only that he isn't the Hillary establishment. Everyone knows that Trump is not the Republican establishment, so I bet 20% of Bernie supporters would rather vote for Trump than Hillary.
nice. johnny "guitar" watson's band supporting.
I am curious. Is campaign season good or bad for the bottom line of publications like Reason?
I guess it is good for the ad revenue of newspapers and media in swing states (I remember the Obama campaign purchasing prime space on top of the Richmond Times-Dispatch web page, due to the assumption that Virginia was a swing state). But this year, there may not be that many swing states.
I couldn't even visit my Yahoo account yesterday without seeing a vacuous, empty ad for Hillary Clinton that virtually filled the page.
Your problem is that you're using Yahoo.
By the way, today I will formally announce that I will *not* be seeking the Republican nomination for President.
I just want to put a stop to all the rumors.
I guess the CLP made a better offer?
C. S. Lewis on Christian parties
If you wanted to do it right, today you would make an announcement that tomorrow you will be making a major announcement and then tomorrow you would announce that tomorrow you will be making an announcement regarding the rumors that you intend to run.
And if you want to talk about the eternal campaign you want to talk, right down to earth, in a language that everybody here can easily understand.
I quit my office job and now I am getting paid 56 Dollars hourly. How? I work-over internet! My old work was making me miserable, so I was to try-something different. 1 years after...I can say mmy life is changed completely for the better! Check it out what i do...Ui2

However, James Brown is still our funky president.
"Tell 'em, Godfather."
"Impeach the President" is better.
You're wrong.
You're a racist.

Indeed. Those parting on the left are now parting on the right.
We don't get fooled again.
Or do we.
...asks the guy who's ready for Hillary.
I am? Who knew!
