Philippines Presidential Frontrunner Says He'd Kill His Drug-Using Child
Admits he probably agrees with people who call him a killer.

Voters in the Philippines are choosing a new president in a couple of weeks and Rodrigo Duterte, mayor of Davao, has opened up a 12 point lead over Sen. Grace Poe.
Duterte has made international headlines a number of times over some of the outlandish things he's said—most recently that he felt he should have been allowed to rape a woman who was gangraped during a prison riot first, since he was the mayor of the town where it happened and she was good-looking.
Despite his reputation for speaking before he thinks, Duterte has bristled at comparisons to Donald Trump. "Donald Trump is a bigot, I am not," Duterte explained.
The Philippines' presidential frontrunner is at it again, insisting he would murder his own children if they did drugs. The issue came up in the last debate before the election, with Duterte vowing to be a harsh president. "They say I am a killer," Duterte, who as mayor of Davao has seen a dramatic rise in vigilante death squads in his city. "Maybe I am."
When he was asked what he would do if he caught one of his children doing drugs, he told the moderator he'd kill them. The Philippines is one of several Southeast Asian countries where certain drug crimes carry the death penalty. In the island nation, possession of as little as .3 ounces of heroin, cocaine, and other narcotics, or 17 ounces of marijuana, is punishable by death.
Similar suggestions have been made for the United States. Most recently, Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R), proposed beheadings for drug traffickers caught in his state.

Yeah this guy is a violent psychopath. If he's willing to say things like that in public what are the odds that he's actually already taken some steps down that road?
Trump just wants to be President.
Duterte is just a rape fantasizing wanna-be murderer, but at least he's not a bigot.
Well, of course. Dude had no problem wanting to rape an white Australian missionary. Have you seen Trump with anyone other than a statuesque Slav?
So... a for-reals fascist authoritarian and he fantasizes about rape and murder. Yeah, that sounds exactly like Trump.
It's easy to get caught up in all the crap that our candidates do and say and think that our politics it at some new low. Then this guy comes in and reminds you that we really don't have it that bad.
You say we don't have it all that bad, I say the Donald Trump of the Phillipines makes our Donald Trump look like an actual libertarian.
And whatever passes for a politician in ISIL right now makes Duterte look like a libertarian too.
It's all relative, I know. Don't think I was implying we shouldn't be trying to continue to improve our already much improved political apparatus and candidates.
The saddest part of this is, for a second, I had to re-read/research this to make sure it wasn't one of Reason's usual 'Ted Cruz hates classical liberalism, calls for transgendered people to be declared insane' moments.
But is he offering more free shit?
Does that sign say nang walang bayad tae?
...There aren't any payments poop? I only have a minimal understanding of Tagalog and don't fancy asking my MIL what that would translate to.
Though I do know enough that this could be a phrase I'm not familiar with, or that the word order is all wrong ("linker" article at the beginning of a sentence, etc.).
So between this and his rape joke, he's basically Filipino Donald Trump, right?

Hilarious.
I am not a bigot! And if you say I am, I will have you killed!
Or rape you if you're a hot chick!
Or make you eat a cigarette! (linked elsewhere)

I for one am glad that we can all finally agree that being a bigot is the worst thing possible to be.
Stick and stones may break my bones, but mean words will... trigger me!

I voted for that guy. Twice.
*ducks and runs away*
It's okay. Everyone makes mistakes. Most people make them over and over again. You're in good company.
I wouldn't call it a mistake. He's been a good governor. He's a rabid drug warrior, but he's also pro-business. And by that I don't mean a protectionist. The first thing he did as governor was encourage businesses to tell him what laws and regulations made their lives more difficult, so he could work on getting rid of them. As opposed to asking businesses what new laws and regulations would make their lives easier (by protecting them from competition). And he signed a constitutional carry law (as in no permit needed for concealed carry). That's a heck of a lot better of a performance than any Democrat would have done. Trade offs, I guess.
The Democrats on this side of the country are rabid drug warriors too so you're probably getting as good as it gets.
Why stop at drugs, right?
What a psycho.

Never refuse a free chichroon on camera. People will think you're some kind of fucking vegan.
Hillary would swallow that thing whole. Then cackle, then coughing fit.
Then transformation into her true form.
i can understand killing your child if they say they want to join the police force when they grow up, but for using drugs? That's ridiculous.
Bring back the guillotine!
If you're going to lead a government that's going to be chopping off heads then you'd better be the one doing it with your own hands. Hell, I think the president and each governor should have to choose in each death-penalty case under their jurisdiction. They can either carry it out themselves with an axe, or they can commute it to life in prison. No drugs to make it look like they went to sleep. No glass windows and doctors to add a layer of separation between decisions and consequences. Go Ned Stark or go home.

IDK, this or lotto. I still remember loathing George Ryan's decision to put these criminals on the public tab for the rest of their natural lives. Not everyone on death row should get a pass because the Governor is too weak to wield the axe.

Trump's "bigotry" has achieved meme status worldwide.
At least there's a smidgen of support for bigotry, based on his comments about Mexican immigrants. He is widely reviled as a racist as well, even though he really hasn't teed off on anyone's race. Just country of origin and religion.
Are the death squads out of communists to hunt? I was in Davao a few years ago. I was worried when my wife's family told me there were death squads in the area. I was promised that they would leave me alone unless they thought I was a communist. The locals really hate communists because of the tactics the communists used.
The topic came up while discussing the decoration of jeepneys. One passed that had swastikas, the NY Yankees logo and the Virginia Mary. I was told they use whatever imagery the owner finds interesting, but you won't find communist imagery because of the death squads.

I'm fairly sure Trump thinks before he speaks, it's just that man people don't like what Trump says so they assume he doesn't mean it.
But Trump isn't linked to death squads, and he hasn't said he'd kill his children over drugs, and he hasn't said he wishes he'd been in on a gang rape.
In other words, Trump is a much better guy than the Filipino candidate, the American media are simply so full of spittle-flecked rage against Trump they don't realize how offensive these comparisons are.

How's that "end of the drug war" thing working out, Reason?
