Legislators in Brazil voted to impeach the president...
Why don't we ever do that anymore?
Hello.
"Pope Francis accepted 12 refugees from Syria to the Vatican."
That seems a bit...unfair.
12 symbolizing The Apostles of course.
BE CAREFUL OF THAT ONE.
Because it worked so well the last time it was tried?
If it was still possible to impeach Bush II I'm sure someone would have tried by now.
Murder is still a possibility. Whichever Bush you can kill. They all deserve it.
If only it could be retroactive. Except for the young drunken slutty granddaughters/ daughters. Gang bang material.
Are you suggesting we've impeached a Brazilian president before?
/How many is a brazilian, anyway?
0.0001 Zimbabwe dollars.
166) I'm calling bullshit on this story. A Berkeley student was kicked off a Southwest flight allegedly because he was speaking Arabic on his phone. Another passenger on the flight overheard him say shalit, or martyr, when he claims he said Inshallah, or God willing.
Nothing about this makes any sense. The Arabic word for martyr is not common knowledge, which suggests the other passenger actually spoke Arabic. My guess is the student made a joke about bombs or something similar, thinking no one around him could understand. It may be that Southwest overreacted, but I'm guessing they had much more reason to intervene than Slate is giving them credit for here.
Given that this has a history of happening and hysterical people and idiot airlines overreacting to nothing, I'm inclined to side with the student here. Even if he does go to Berkeley.
Had it simply been the "speaking Arabic" part I'd be inclined to agree. It's that detail about shalit vs. inshallah that caught my attention. Makes me think the person who overheard actually speaks Arabic, and might have had good reason to be alarmed.
Or it's a paranoid person who's learned such things so she can be paranoid.

Do they have edit history like normal wikis? I wonder how often it will have to be purged a la 1984. "We have always been at war with Eastasia"...
+1 Memory Hole
Eh, but if that was the case, you'd have to think that the person who reported him would have more to report than just a single word they heard. You'd think if the other passenger had spoken Arabic /fluently/, they would've said something to the effect of "I heard him say he was planning on becoming a martyr in Arabic" rather than "I heard him say the word martyr".
Since the passenger's report was of hearing a single word, and that word is not, as you say, common knowledge, I'm more inclined to think this was just some busybody with a passing knowledge of some Arabic that thinks she understands the language better than she actually does, and reported a misheard word as a result.
Pope Francis accepted 12 refugees from Syria to the Vatican.
Be careful of that one.
According to this story its the Italians who gave the visas, not the Vatican. I bet they only stay for a short time if any in the Vatican but are then dumped on the Italians.
""""She said the three families had been given Italian humanitarian visas and would now apply for asylum. """

Clooney gives a 33K per person fundraiser, with the couple sitting at his table with him and Clinton having to pay 350K, then goes on MTP and says there are "obscene" amounts of money in politics.
Why does the person on MTP not just ask "Soooo, why should we listen to anything you say when you have no credibility whatsoever?"
Of course, that question didn't come?.
"supporters of Bernie Sanders threw dollar bills at Clinton while she was on her way to a fundraiser at George Clooney's house."
This one goes out to the one I love.
She didn't even have to swing on a pole or wear a thong for them to tuck the dollar bills into [thank mercy].
Throwing money at somebody going to a fundraiser? How clueless can a protest be?
Oh, right, there's no bottom to that hole.
I kinda liked it. Hope it becomes a thing with Hillary.
$100-dollar bills would've baited a Golem-like Hillary into scurrying for the errant notes before handlers could stuff it back into motorcade somewhere.
Monopoly money would be better. Worthless, gets the point across, and features the dude with the monocle.
Monopoly Money will have to be outlawed when libertarians take over and put a dude with a monocle on legal tender.
She didn't even have to swing on a pole or wear a thong for them to tuck the dollar bills into [thank mercy].
That could be a pretty effective fundraiser. Paying Hillary to put and keep more clothing on.
Excellent protest. Made the news, made the point.
Maybe they were Sacagawea dollars? Hope they found the mark!

The response I've received - sometimes - when I raise similar questions is along the lines of, "well, they/I have to do that to compete with their opponents. But once we take power, we'll change things."
And when they take power, it's "well we have to get rid of the kulaks and wreckers first, but once that's done utopia will be ushered in" etc....
+5 year plan
What they mean is, they'll play by the rules of the game until elected, then change the rules. Kind of like in Venezuela.
True. But often it's the rank-and-file type people who truly believe that things will change.
Kind of like the conservatives who believe, this time, that Rs will cut spending or the next war is really necessary.
Money in politics isn't a logical issue. People have been told that money in politics is bas, and then they haven't thought about the issue more deeply than that, and every news outlet takes as proven that money in politics is bad so they must be right...
It's a lot easy to just accept "money in politics is bad", especially because when you express that opinion, is there ever push back? Rarely if at all.
That's because Clooney has to do this for the betterment of all.
Because he's a Jedi, of course.

"A magnitude-7.8 earthquake in Ecuador has killed at least 272 people."
And two major earthquakes in Japan a few days ago. Is there any possibility those are connected? Don't know enough about seismography to know if that's possible, or just a coincidence.
Of course. All that CO2 is tearing up the crust.
No, no, no. It's because of gay marriage.
Ewww. Gay marriage tearing up the crust. Zeb, didn't know you had that kind of joke in ya.
No, it's fracking.
The fracking comes after the gay marriage, so they're related.
Related? So its gay incest marriage?
Does it count as incest if there's no chance of children? It's taboo, sure, but the possibility of conceiving a re-re is what makes it dangerous.
Jerry Falwell agrees. He claimed that 9/11was also caused by homos.Until it was pointed out that he had the same view as bin Ladin.
Falwell wants gays to be publicly stoned to death? He's a judgmental piece of shit, but I didn't know he took that stance.

What Women Really Want Is The Patriarchy
...The second dutifully married a more direct, straightforward man, however demanding and borderline-misogynist he was. Fast-forward a few years; both women had two kids. Guess which one is happier? The former's husband has become so passive-aggressive that the family's finances are in disarray and their sex life is nonexistent. The latter found a synergy with her husband most of my friends hardly recognize: They're working towards familial goals, have hot, regular sex, and he's compromised and become less of a demanding jerk. Guess that patriarchy thing works out sometimes?...
More weirdly misogynistic articles, man?
Jesus christ man, give it a rest. Do you seriously think anyone else wakes up in the morning and goes, "Man, I wanna go read some articles on how all women are cunts and only alphas get laid!"
...just, no, no, I think the general attitude of indifference towards these links proves no one cares. So, while libertarian site, I can't stop you, etc. .... I mean, you're just being an asshole choosing a weird place to work out your issues with women. I mean, do yourself a favor, spend a little money, and get a therapist or a prostitute (If you go with the latter, I would like to congratulate you on your future career as a serial killer!)
In an interview with Maclean's Camilla Paglia confirmed this: "[W]e don't know what we want. We don't know if we want children or not. My generation produced the sexual revolution and your generation is stuck figuring out how it's going to work."
Turns out: All that stuff is just stuff. As much as stuff is nice, many women still crave a stable, mutual, satiating romantic relationship with an assertive, authentic, direct man. This is normal.
Yeah, I can't imagine how misogynistic you'd have to be to think maybe women were misled by a generation of bigoted ideologues.
Sometimes a cunt is just a cunt (if you're sticking your dick in it).

A Berniebot friend was complaining about $ in politics (of course only on the Republican side). Mentioned how much money unions were spending for Bernie. He claimed unions aren't really spending millions on Bernie.
I can't.
The thing about bernie supporters is that if you are going to introduce them to reality, you have to do so super gently. For example, don't say,"Won't a minnimum wage increase raise inflation?" Instead, create a complex parable where you make and sell artisinal mayonaise, and the new laws will make you pay more to RELIGIOUS REPUBLICANS you are forced to so business with so you have to raise prices on your customers, all of whom are gender noncoforming people of color. I mean, its still a 50/50 chabce that they blame the existence of republicans, but it's the best odds you'll find.
Look, these people have totally shut their brains off- you can't expect the engine to kick back into gear just like that.

Glad I saw them when it was real.
I never had the opportunity to see ACDC in their prime. Before my time. I did have the opportunity to see GnR when they were touring with Metallica, but didn't go. A few friends of mine went and they said the show sucked. Axl was shitfaced and late, and Metallica was promoting the Black Album (which sucks).
Oddly one of the best performances I saw was Cheap Trick when they opened for STP. Though the kids tried to ruin it by starting a mosh pit during I Want You to Want Me.
I saw one of those concerts, and it was just okay. I think that Metallica was still pretty good back then, they still had Jason Newsted, and the black album was solid. I've never been a huge Guns N'Roses fan, but I love the song "Welcome to the Jungle."
Two other bands that I've seen, who were much better live, were Pantera and Killswitch Engage (with Howard Jones).
Saw AC/DC back in '89 with my geeky high school locker partner, who, oddly enough, was a huge Kiss/metal fan.
Great show, though White Lion, the opener, got booed for most of their set.
Just no.

Philippines presidential frontrunner Rodrigo Duterte says he won't apologize for suggesting he should have been allowed to rape a lay minister during a prison riot first because he was mayor of the town when the gang rape happened.
I'm having a hard time parsing this sentence. Can anyone untangle that mess?
About 25 years ago during a prison riot an Australian lay minister was raped and murdered. Presidential frontrunner dude said it was a shame that she died because she was beautiful, and that the least the rioters could've done would've been to let the Mayor (Duterte) have the first turn. He said it was a joke at first, and then made another excuse that I don't remember. His supporters say it's a joke. Everyone else is pissed.
Or prima nocte applied to something of an extreme (well, more extreme than prima nocte)
Take a deep breath, and look again.
I could have read the article, I suppose. But I just got two people to enact my labor for me, so I win.
I am with Zeb. That sentence make no sense whatsoever.
If you aren't already familiar with the story it's just weirdly phrased and ambiguous.
Yeah, it's kind of a weird story. But the basic idea is this: back in 1989 there was a riot at a prison in the Philippines. A number of hostages, some of the religious workers, were taken hostage and then raped & killed. Duerte said he was angry that a beautiful woman had been killed and that the inmates had lined up to rape her. He then said it was a "waste" because, as mayor at the time, he should have been first in line.
It's really bizarre.
Just a random twelve. I'm sure he wasn't selective. But why stop at 12? Open borders folks tell me that in theory all of the migrants have the right to move to the Vatican and there's no such thing as too many too fast.
I'm sure he wasn't selective.
Right. DHS should hire His Holiness's vetters.
They meant 12 year old refugees. They'll be vetting them thoroughly.
Watch one of them turn out to be a terrorist. One of the Brussels bombers was the subject of a documentary about how successfully integrated European Muslims are. So you never know.
"Now turn the other cheek, infidel!"
No one says anything like that.
Reasonable people can disagree here, but at least try to engage with what people actually say.
I just recently had a debate, with you specifically, about how migrants have a "right" to move to whichever country they want. And I've absolutely heard open borders advocates on this site, not you specifically, declare that any border controls or impediments to the movements of the Muslim migrants is a violation of their rights. Just about anyone who is getting used to being shouted down as a "yokel" has had such interactions.
Well, almost. People have a right to go anywhere people will have them. No one has a right to a plane ride to the Vatican or welfare or to be assisted as a refugee. What people do have a right to do is to travel anywhere that someone is willing to put them up or give them a job. It's not a positive right. No one owes anyone accommodations on their property. But on the other hand, people have the right to allow whomever they want to use their property, no matter what their passport says.
As far as "too many too fast" goes, there probably is such a thing and it probably is happening in Europe now. And that situation is fucked and I don't know what the right answer is. With all the welfare and such that Europe offers to migrants, taxpayers in those countries are being violated and other serious problems are happening, so I could probably be convinced that under extreme circumstances some compromise on principles is warranted.
But that doesn't change the basic principle.
That's all well and good. But of your contention that open borders advocates don't commonly make the case any impediments or border controls are an unqualified affront to the migrant's right to 'freedom of movement', that's just not true. I've had far too many debates on that exact claim to believe even for a moment that it isn't a common one. And I'm not even talking about Cytotoxic specifically, he's just the most extreme case and what's notable about him is something else.
Please don't take Cyto as speaking for all of us open (ish) border advocates.
Also, shut up, yokel.
I'm all for open borders not because I'm an open border guy but because I'm for individual liberty.
So that right to move is predicated upon someone else's acceptance onto their property.
That right to move is also derived from the same principle that gives the right to free speech, self defense, private security markets, unregulated labor, etc. With all of that combined, it will be easy to weed out and better mitigate threats in any free movement people. Trolling makes for a good honeypot.
You have a natural right to emigrate from anywhere, you do not have a natural right to immigrate to anywhere in particular. Immigration can only be a contractual right or you're predicating the existence of a natural right on a crime and/or government policy.
Which is essentially what I'm saying. But I'm also saying that right isn't dependent upon the state, so if you can find someone who will transport and accept your residence (for whatever conditions or trade), then any enforcement of state borders would be violating those parties' voluntary transaction.
Well that's good, what threw me is when you said the same principle that justifies a series of natural rights (like self-defense) also justifies a contractual right (immigration). Maybe it's just semantic, all rights lead back to self-ownership, but something like immigration is based on a right to contract which is based on self-ownership, whereas self-defense is based directly on self-ownership.
State borders are a violation of the domestic property owner's rights first and foremost. The state's borders represent nationalized and collectivized rights to contract and free association. The state has essentially monopolized the exercise of those rights by property owners, which is to be sure, a violation. But just as with government monopolized roads and bodies of law, once monopolized the monopoly has a minimal duty to deliver the goods and services of which it has monopolized.
It is certainly unjust that the government monopolizes roads, but it would be adding insult to injury if it then failed to enforce any rules about the use of those roads. Though ideally, it would be better if there were no borders and free association were absolute and welfare weren't subsidizing certain classes of immigrants to be and remain immigrants at the expense of domestic property owners.
Most open borders folks still say that we can have some immigration restrictions, based on disease or criminal history. But, if the right to move to any particular place is a natural right, then how can immigration restrictions based on disease or a criminal record in another country be defensible?
Are we really saying that we can violate someone's natural rights when they get sick? Or when they are convicted under a legal system that doesn't give what we regard as due process?
It's a compromise. You can't have a nation state without violating someone's natural rights.
That's an argument against nation-states.

One of the tenets of Pastafarianism is that global warming is caused by the worldwide decline in pirating (as can been seen on a chart of number of pirates vs. average temperature), and that therefore creating more pirates is necessary to save the planet.
I've heard worse theories.

"Hackman said when she was a professor, she freely employed these methods with her own students. She once let a student complete an essay assignment as a graphic novel, and allowed students to write in non-standard English or even foreign languages she herself couldn't read.
"If I don't know [your language,] frankly, that's my issue," she said. "All I need to know is that you're thinking about it, I don't really care how you do it.""
I don't have a problem with the graphic novel thing, but it occurs to me that you're doing an immense disservice to students if you don't require them to express themselves in language that would actually make them, you know, employable. And it's also apparently the teacher's fault if they don't speak every language on Earth rather than the student's fault for not knowing the language of the country they live in...
Deconstructionism has really taken a toll on the art of communication.
If I don't know [your language,] frankly, that's my issue," she said. "All I need to know is that you're thinking about it, I don't really care how you do it
IOW, I'm getting paid to do absolutely nothing, at your expense.
All I need to know is that you're thinking about it, I don't really care how you do it
Of course, if she can't read the language, she doesn't even know if you're thinking about it.
Why not turn in "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" typed over and over again, and demand an "A"?
That type of thinking hasn't worked out so well for the losers I've met in Asia that refuse to learn the local language. The only good thing I can say about that prof is that at least the people that follow her will end up broke.
Prof. Hackman:
Maha, aha, razbanyas yatzee benefuchee achiliminee kharoronji paraneesima me ha. Theesa frog face, he askie taskie handeleh dandeleh vattidju potzayt, you got some slick chicks?
Now give me my A.
Hm. Smells more like a 'B' to me.
So you're antisemitic as well. Nice.
"If I don't know [your language,] frankly, that's my issue,"
Damn, it would have been so fun to have this class. I could finally put my knowledge of Irish Gaelic and Persian to good use. Write the whole thing alternating haphazardly between the two languages transcribing both in my favorite script, the Elder Futhark set of Runes.
At that point in time, just completely ignore whatever I'm supposed to write and write about the mating patterns of walruses from memory.
Respond to all questions on the content of said essay by saying something like "This is what my culture as a Norse-Gael Baha'i looks like, deal with it!!" Insist that any grade less than a 100% (plus extra credit) is "ethnocentric prejudice".
Why put any effort into it at all. Just copy some pages out of a book - how would she know the difference?
Apparently there's been a white privilege conference for 17 years. I looked up some of the bios of the presenters. It made for hilarious reading.

An extraordinary short video making the rounds. A 5'9? white guy goes onto the University of Washington campus and asks students to explain why he isn't a 6'5? Chinese female child in first grade. They can't do it. They are so afraid of being judgmental, and offending against the sacred dogma of Self-Definition that they are unable to deny anything he claims about himself. (Not strictly true: one woman of the bunch politely doubts that he is 6'5?.)
But there is no downside to pretending that you are whatever sex you pretend to be. Nope. That logic will never be applied anywhere else.
I've already shut down two proggies by telling them that I don't have white male privilege because I identify as a Hispanic woman and they should stop othering me.
?Ay, caramba!
That is brilliant. Didn't they say the white chick who worked for the NAACP was good to go because was really black?
One of them said that that didn't matter because other people still treat me as a white male. I told her she was victim-blaming and that I wouldn't stand for that. It was one of the few times in my life I've actually seen the "trying to talk but no words are coming out" face. She just walked away with sort of a stunned expression.
The way to stop this idiocy is to apply it fully against them.
I would hope at some point the logical contradictions would start to dawn on people. The entire second and third wave feminist movement is based on the assumption that gender is a social construct. Yet, now we are told that anyone who denies that someone can be born a gender the opposite of their body is a bigot. If gender is a social construct, then no one who is raised one gender can claim to be really the other. You can't square that circle. Somehow we are all supposed to believe that gender is a social construct on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays and an inborn static quality the other days.
There's actually a lot of transgender hate in certain parts of the feminist movement for precisely this reason:
Radical Feminism - Views of Transgender Issues - Opposition
One of them said that that didn't matter because other people still treat me as a white male.
"So it doesn't matter if a transgender person identifies as a woman because other people will still treat them as a man?"
You do realize you have to vote the right way for the transition to be complete?
An excellent stratagem, though I personally prefer responding to accusations of being a cis white male by stating that since gender and race are both social constructs, obviously I cannot be cis nor white.
I actually hope that "trans-racialism" catches on enough to really fuck with the whole race/privilege narrative.
Race, unlike sex, really is a social construct. If we could destroy the concept of race, we would be a lot better off.
So, there's no genetic or physiological way to categorize Australian aborigines as distinct from Alaskan Inuits? Race is not a clean and tidy box in which everyone can fit into exactly one category, but that's also the case for many perfectly valid biological categories. A two headed horse doesn't exactly fit the mold of "horse", but that doesn't mean the existence of such a horse invalidates the whole category.
Yes, that is true. But beyond how you look, it is totally a social construct. Those people have different cultures but the cultures are constructed. For example, out where my older brother lives a family adopted a kid from Somalia. So the kid grows up in this redneck town in the middle of nowhere. Sure enough, he grows up to be a redneck. He didn't grow up to be anything like what a native Somali would grow up to be.
Yet adoption studies and twin studies have told us that the diaspora population raised outside of their ancestral culture, are distributed normally on the bell curve measuring that ethnic group's IQ and they tend to conform to the estranged group's thinking patterns. That is to say, adopted Koreans raised in white households are still more likely to have higher analytical IQs and lower verbal IQs than their white cultural compatriots. We are not 100% environment, not even close, it's a leftist "new man" theory to say that we are.
Yes. We are not 100% environment. But we are not 100% genes either. And if we are not 100% genes, then we are not slaves to our race and are free to rise above it if we choose to. So effectively, it is a social construct. To say otherwise to embrace the idea that our destiny is our race, which is just as nasty of a theory as socialist new man.
No one said we were.
Of course we're not slaves to biology, no one is abrogating the existence of individual agency. But just because we're something less than 100% genes doesn't make us free to be as smart or capable as we want to be. I'm sure there's lots of white guys who would love to play for the NBA so badly that if they could, they'd make themselves taller with longer arms out of sheer willpower. But alas, they cannot and in the distributions of the white and black populations, whites tend to be less suitable for the NBA, relative to the black population of potential candidates.
Denying the existence of biological distinctions between groups whose ancestors were separated for tens of thousands of years in widely disparate environments that were exerting different selective pressures, is effectively wishful thinking.
Free Society,
Either it means something or it doesn't. If you are free to rise above such, then how does it mean anything? If you think that these differences are so important, then how can you justify treating everyone equally? If it is possible to overcome it and be something else, then you can't judge anyone by it. And if you can't judge anyone by it, what the hell difference does it make? None.
Once again, it's not an all or nothing proposition. The smartest person in the world might be an overweight mother of twelve living in Nairobi while the dumbest (non-brain dead) person in the world might the son of two genius Norwegian scientists. Intelligence is distributed normally in all populations, so group tendencies are just that; group tendencies, not individual cases.
No one treats everyone else equally. Now where it concerns government and law, of course everyone should be treated equally because that arrangement is the most conducive to the promotion of justice.
Tendencies among groups are not the same thing as the potential of individuals.
I'm not telling you how to judge any person. But the differences between groups are what they are. You judge groups as groups where it concerns policies crafted to apply to groups. And you judge individuals as individuals where it concerns policies crafted to apply to individuals.
I have very reasonable doubts that Uncle Sam, or anyone, could take a population of central African pygmies with an average IQ of 53 and give them a functioning democracy, or that you could take their children and give them the best western primary education imaginable and then send them all to Yale to become doctors and lawyers. It's not fair, I'll grant you that. But whether or not something is "fair" has no bearing on whether or not it's true.
You don't treat them equally, you treat them as individuals.
A person's race can be discerned from looking at their bones. Race is not a social construct. It is biological fact.
Ethnicity is a social construct.

This after Mr. Michael Steinbach, executive assistant director for the FBI's National Security Branch, testified on the refugee situation to the House Homeland Security Committee in February as follows:
We don't have it under control. Absolutely, we're doing the best we can. If I were to say that we had it under control, then I would say I know of every single individual traveling. I don't. And I don't know every person there and I don't know everyone coming back. So it's not even close to being under control.
But Reason assured me we could vet these refugees. A Libertarian publication suddenly discovered its faith in government and just knew that the government could do this. It was the feel good story of the year.
So DHS has to immediately hire more attorneys to spend their days surfing the internet at taxpayer expense. It's for security! It's for control! It's for The Children!

The poll ? which shows that a significant part of the British Muslim community is becoming a separate "nation within a nation" ? has reignited the long-running debate about the failure of 30 years of British multiculturalism and the need for stronger measures to promote Muslim integration.
The survey was conducted by ICM Research for the Channel 4 documentary, "What British Muslims Really Think," which aired on April 13.
The 615-page survey found that more than 100,000 British Muslims sympathize with suicide bombers and people who commit other terrorist acts. Moreover, only one in three British Muslims (34%) would contact the police if they believed that somebody close to them had become involved with jihadists.
In addition, 23% of British Muslims said Islamic Sharia law should replace British law in areas with large Muslim populations.
On social issues, 52% of the Muslims surveyed said they believe homosexuality should be illegal, compared to 22% of non-Muslim Britons. Nearly half believe it is unacceptable for a gay or lesbian to teach their children. At the same time, almost a third (31%) of British Muslims think polygamy should be legalized. Among 18-to-24-year-olds, 35% think it is acceptable to have more than one wife.

The UK is so screwed.
Remember: North Carolina's bathroom laws are so evil they require us all to boycott that vulgar, hillbilly state, but don't discuss virulent homophobia among Muslims globally, Islamophobic bigot.
Pew Research did a poll on global Muslim beliefs and found that, if their numbers are accurate, approximately 1 billion Muslims support religious over secular law. This is the best poll on the subject we have, and if you do the math about 1/3rd of Muslims globally also support stoning adulteress women to death.
South-eastern European Muslims are far and away the most moderate, to the extent that there's virtually no difference between them and other Europeans, so the problem doesn't exist in every region. It's a joke to pretend that Islam isn't a uniquely reactionary religion though.
The mayor of Sante Fe, New Mexico banned all official travel to New Mexico last week. The next day he took off on some official boondoggle trip to Qatar. The punishment for homosexuality there is one to three years in prison.
You can't make this shit up.
That is a remarkable accomplishment.
North Carolina. Congratulations on picking up the typo. That is good work for you.
That Canuck Bryan Adams routinely plays in the Middle-East.
Their selective activism is fucking grating.
I'm sure we can find plenty of example citing celebrities for their hypocrisy.
Such upstanding moral people all of them.
The UK made its bed. They were the ones who decided to throw in with the early Saudi Wahhabis and help them wrest control of the Arabian peninsula. They've enabled the Saudis to peddle their Salafist ideology and to fund terrorist causes. Now, unsurprisingly, the majority of British Muslims align with the Salafist movement.
It's almost like propping up religious extremists is a really bad idea or something. If only the West was self aware enough to stop bending to the interests of extremism-exporting terrorist-funding Saudis.
And, while we're at it, stop bending to the interests of "moderate rebels" as well.
And the worst part of it is that if they had applied brute force to the problem, they'd likely have the current King of Jordan on the Saudi throne. And he's a heck of a lot more moderate than the Saudis, shoot, he even appeared in Star Trek.
The UK is so screwed.
It would be one thing if this were a fringe sect in Britain, with a handful of followers. But its not. And its even worse in France, where something like 1/4 of teenagers are Muslims, with a similar lack of assimilation, as far as I can tell.
The Euro elites have succeeded in fundamentally transforming their countries. But "fundamental transformation" is always, or even generally, a good thing.
23% of British Muslims said Islamic Sharia law should replace British law in areas with large Muslim populations.
"Large"? Blasphemy!

I forget what the cumulative percentage is if you add up federal tax, state tax, excise taxes, but isn't it in the ballpark that we work about 6 months per year for various governments? I'd like a survey question that asked respondents how many months they thought was "fair" for an individual to work for the government. And this doesn't even include the factor of deficit spending!

The Caps couldn't look much better going in to Philadelphia today.
Holtby too 42 shots and made 41 saves.
It wouldn't surprise me if Philadelphia started Neuvirth tonight. And if it looks like Philadelphia is going to lose, these twogames in Philadelphia will see all kinds of fights and cheap shots.
We've always found a way to blow it before, and if we end up advancing against Pittsburgh, it's gonna be epic--no tellin' how that ends. But I gotta love the way the Caps are playing though.
The Caps are the better team in every single aspect of the game. I know the NHL playoffs are screwy but I can't see how you can have the better team in every phase and still lose a seven game series.
The caps have never ever gone up 3-0 in the playoffs, if it happens for them I anticipate them to lose whatever series they are playing because it would be the only new way I could be disappointed.
They have been around for over 40 years and they have never once gone up 3-0 in a series. That is an amazing and depressing statistic. And they have had some good teams. My God have they been horrible in the playoffs.
Holtby has been playing really well. It pleases me.
