Charges have been dropped against Donald Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, over the filmed incident of him grabbing a former Breitbart reporter's arm and yanking her away from Trump when she was trying to ask him a question at a rally. Prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to support prosecution.

  • Hey, remember the time that police officer at the University of California, Davis, walked down of peaceful protesters and just brutally pepper sprayed them all in their faces? UC Davis wanted to facilitate people forgetting about all that and paid at least $175,000 trying to reduce its prominence on the Internet by hiring a firm to churn out more positive coverage that would show up in searches. Well obviously it just backfired terribly. Now they'll have to hire a firm to churn out stories to try to bury the stories about how the college hired a firm to churn out stories to bury the stories about the pepper-spraying incident.
  • Microsoft is suing the government over the right to tell its customers when a federal agency is looking over their emails, calling gag orders a violation of their free speech.
  • Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a pro-gay Republican, was booed at an LGBT event because he wouldn't declare upon demand whether he'd support proposed legislation to add gender identity to public accommodation guidelines.
  • At least two have been killed and more than 40 injured in a 6.5-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan overnight.
  • A judge has denied a request by a gun manufacturer to toss out a lawsuit against it by the families of victims of the Sandy Hook Shootings.

Charges have been dropped against Donald Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, over the filmed incident of him grabbing a former Breitbart reporter's arm and yanking her away...

    Dropped on account of classiness.

      Hello.

"A judge has denied a request by a gun manufacturer to toss out a lawsuit against it by the families of victims of the Sandy Hook Shootings."

I would love to know what the rationale was. It wasn't mentioned in the article.

      2. Ted S.   9 years ago

        FYTW would be my guess.

    2. Los Doyers   9 years ago

The charges didn't corey much of a sentence, anyway.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   9 years ago

        Looks like this campaign manager...

        [dons sunglasses]

...managed to inflict pain on cam.

      2. CampingInYourPark   9 years ago

That's not much of one either

        1. Los Doyers   9 years ago

Is your next comment going to finish that thought with a period? I sure hope so.

          1. Trigger Warning   9 years ago

A judge has denied a request by a gun manufacturer to toss out a lawsuit against it by the families of victims of the Sandy Hook Shootings.

Judge wants to see how this open can of worms plays out.

    1. Anomalous   9 years ago

If I were on the jury, I would award the plaintiffs $1.

      1. Rufus The Monocled Derp Slayer   9 years ago

"The plaintiffs in the case allege that the defendants "unethically, oppressively, immorally, and unscrupulously marketed and promoted the assaultive qualities and military uses of AR-15s to civilian purchasers."

It's a mighty dangerous line they want to walk!

        1. Derp-o-Matic 5000   9 years ago

oppressively [...] marketed and promoted the assaultive qualities and military uses of AR-15s to civilian purchasers

I'd like to see them elaborate on that one.

        2. Catatafish & Woodchips   9 years ago

The judge is clearly thinking about this from a purely political perspective. There is zero chance this survives under the plain reading of the Protection of Lawful Commerce Act.

        3. Ted S.   9 years ago

Considering that Adam Lanza stole the weapons he used, I don't think the defendants marketed their weapons at him.

          And, really: oppressively?

        4. PBR Streetgang   9 years ago

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I thought Lanza didn't even use the AR-15. Thought only the handguns were actually used

          1. Suthenboy   9 years ago

This is true.they are using inaccurate news reports as the basis for the suit
            It's for show

          2. PBR Streetgang   9 years ago

Okay, thought that was what I recalled hearing.

            1. HeteroPatriarch   9 years ago

But BushMaster has money, and why not cash in on a horrible tragedy?

              1. CZmacure   9 years ago

Because OP is in fact remembering wrong, or rather remembering a persistent rumor at the time :

                http://www.ct.gov/despp/cwp/view.asp?Q=517284

#1. Bushmaster .223 caliber-- model XM15-E2S rifle with high capacity 30 round magazine
                ...
The shooter used the Bushmaster .223 to murder 20 children and six adults inside the school; he used a handgun to take his own life inside the school. No other weapons were used in this crime. This case remains under investigation.

                1. kbolino   9 years ago

                  This case remains under investigation.

What could they possibly expect to find out?

          3. Catatafish & Woodchips   9 years ago

Pretty sure they found it in the trunk of his car.

            1. Jingles   9 years ago

No, the AR was used. It was a Saiga-12 that was in the trunk.

              1. Mr Lizard   9 years ago

Sigh....when you mammals go sideways you somehow never use the truly destructive weapons.

unscrupulously marketed and promoted the assaultive qualities

Assaultive qualities are what I look for in a firearm. I also seek out guns that are weapony and fully capable of producing shootations.

          1. This Machine   9 years ago

*makes shooty blaster noises with mouth*

            1. Ted S.   9 years ago

          1. R C Dean   9 years ago

            Exactly what I was thinking.

    2. Suthenboy   9 years ago

I can't believe every manufacturer in the country isn't besieging the court

      1. Derp-o-Matic 5000   9 years ago

Yeah, not just guns, either, but pretty much everything. This should and will get reversed because it's contrary to well established law.

        1. R C Dean   9 years ago

The only legal and correct response to this suit would be to dismiss it and impose penalties on the lawyer who brought it.

Naturally, that will never happen. No, it'll get thrown out on appeal, and Bushmaster will be out hundreds of thousands of dollars, and we will say "See? The system works!".

    3. Tejicano   9 years ago

I'm surprised they left out "unfashionably"

Prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to support prosecution.

See! She made it all up!

    1. lulztopian   9 years ago

there were certainly enough people gloating over the charges that one would be justified in thinking that charges = guilt around here.

      1. BiMonSciFiCon   9 years ago

I don't see how it's unclear that there was an unwanted touching (battery). The only reason she pressed charges was that the Trump campaign denied it happened and said she made it up for publicity.

        1. lulztopian   9 years ago

if it was such a slam dunk one wonders why the prosecutor let it get away.

so you ARE one of those people who think that charges = guilt. Didn't mean to make fun of you behind your back.

          1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

so you ARE one of those people who think that charges = guilt. Didn't mean to make fun of you behind your back.

That is exactly what he said. You are on point today.

            1. lulztopian   9 years ago

it's so clear the prosecutor dropped the charges. because all prosecutors give up politically lucrative, easy prosecutions. that happens all of never.

              1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

Yes. The fact that the prosecutor dropped the charges means that nothing happened, that she was making it up to get attention, that the person who witnessed him grabbing her made it up, and that Trump is awesome.

The lengths these people go to embarrass Trump.

                1. OneOut   9 years ago

If he had touched the female on a college campus he would be guilty of rape.

            2. BiMonSciFiCon   9 years ago

I, personally, think he's guilty of an unwanted touch based on the evidence (video, audit, eyewitness testimony). Whether there's enough evidence to convict is another story.

I think what the guy did was wrong and, technically, illegal, but I doubt Fields would have pressed charges if they hadn't decided to go full Trump and deny it happened and call her an attention seeker. Wouldn't be surprised if there was some behind the scene apology or something along those lines.

(For the record, I don't think charges equal guilt.)

              1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

For the record, I don't think charges equal guilt

And dropping charges does not equal innocence.

                WHAT A CRAZY CONCEPT

                4. Cloudbuster   9 years ago

It sort of does, as innocence is the default presumption.

              2. Tak Kak   9 years ago

"I think what the guy did was wrong and, technically, illegal, but I doubt Fields would have pressed charges if they hadn't decided to go full Trump and deny it happened and call her an attention seeker. Wouldn't be surprised if there was some behind the scene apology or something along those lines."

On April 13 she said: For those asking, office of prosecutor asked 2 weeks ago if I'd be ok with an apology from Corey. I said ya but haven't heard back about it

She does seem to have a history of being an attention seeker though, she's apparently assaulted everywhere she goes. (Or she's just very unlucky)

                1. BiMonSciFiCon   9 years ago

She does seem to have a history of being an attention seeker though, she's apparently assaulted everywhere she goes. (Or she's just very unlucky)

From what I can gather she's had run-ins with Leonardo DiCaprio, assaulted by the NYPD, a former employer, was groped by Allen West, had a spat with Seth McFarlin - doesn't mean they're all true of course.

I never saw a video that made me think "Holy shit!"

I saw a scrum in a crowded hall, and somebody who got handled the way people sometimes get handled in a scrum.

Context matters. And the context here was a bunch of pushy people being pushy. As was noted at the time, there are millions of "unwanted touchings" a day that don't get prosecuted because they happen in crowded situations where you're gonna get touched whether you want it or not.

And if you listen closely, you can hear the sound of blood gurgling in her throat.

    Oh my God

"I'm A Giant Liberal But I Fell In Love With A Republican"

"I have dated a lot. In fact, I'm an expert. My first serious boyfriend was in college, and it goes without saying our politics were in sync. It was the late 90s, he was in a straight-edge punk band and we were both vegan.

We traveled to India together. Horrified that so many people lived in poverty, we talked endlessly about how we could help solve the world's inequality. What could we do to make things better?"

"If I'm being honest, perhaps I would admit that I got a little tired of the "progressive" guys I was dating. There was a lot of talk, but often I found my boyfriends had trouble walking the walk. I still seemed to be doing the housework. On a few occasions I was even covering the rent while my boyfriends pursued their unrealistic dreams (bands, the great American novel etc). In one extreme case, a professed male feminist cheated on me with a much younger woman."

I liked the number of people who demonstrated how undateable they are by proving the writer's point:

Bottom line, if you are a male and support a candidate who restricts abortion to the point of voting for them, then you deserve to be called a misogynist, particularly if their abortion stance is why you're voting for them in the first place. Prioritizing any issue over civil rights pretty much means you're a terrible person

"On our third date, we eventually got around to politics. We'd skirted the subject before, but not in any detail. Of course, I started off on the usual tangent and expected Todd to play along. He didn't.

Moments later we were in a heated debate, initially about healthcare but quickly escalating into other areas. I felt my fantasy slipping away. I was confronted with a cold, hard reality: The man I was falling in love with was a Republican."

I'm not sure what is worse: she's falling in love by the third date or she's falling in love because of her earlier description of how he wears a suit, takes her to an expensive restaurant and knows about wine.

      IHTM
IT HAPPENED TO ME: Donald Trump Ruined My Relationship
My Republican boyfriend and I had always enjoyed a good debate, but now there was chauvinism and condescension in his arguments.

Late last year, I wrote a personal essay on what I thought was a pretty benign topic: my relationship. More specifically, how I, a liberal woman, fell for a Republican man.

Turns out it was a lot more controversial than I thought.

My essay was shared thousands of times and received over 1000 comments, with hundreds more comments across social media. The comments were rabid and full of outrage, with many readers denouncing me. Why did so many people take my relationship with Todd as a personal affront? Does it have something to do with the fact that Americans are more politically divided than ever? Whatever the reason, the hatred was vitriolic.

      NOOOOOO!!!!!!

""Hillary will ruin this country," he said, looking directly at me. "She's an entitled c*nt who only represents a bunch of ugly feminazis."

I was shocked. I'd never heard him speak about women like this before.

"I'm voting for Hillary," I said, trying to maintain my composure.

"Women don't deserve the vote," he retorted. Was this a joke? Some kind of Ann Coulter bullshit? Some of his male friends laughed uneasily. The women in the room were silent. All eyes were on me. I placed my half-empty wine glass on the marble counter top and walked calmly out of the room. I slammed the door. I sat in the car alone and cried."

As I mentioned in my previous article, Todd was no fan of Donald Trump. Like a lot of people, we both thought Trump was a joke that would blow over. We were wrong. As the Republican field narrowed and Trump became a viable option for the nomination, Todd's attitude began to change. Maybe Trump was on to something. Maybe the party establishment did need a bit of a shake up. Maybe it was refreshing to have someone up there saying what he really thinks. Besides, what was the other option, Ted Cruz? Todd hates his Tea Party-pandering extremism and rigid social conservatism much more than Trump's media-baiting.

That's what they should ask these morons.

      1. CZmacure   9 years ago

        Because :

        1) men and boys can't sneak into girls' rooms if they want to victimize girls, but there will be hell to pay if they have access via the far easier method of.. pretending to be transgender..
        2) girls cannot be victimized by homosexual (or straight, "rape is a crime of violence", remember) women
        3) the bathroom (or locker-room) is, despite being a high traffic semi-public space, somehow an ideal location for rape, because genitals

The logic underlying this particular fear complex does not compute for me. Perhaps that was the point of your appeal to emotion?

I don't use these words much, but the ZOMG PROTECT THE WIMMINS tone of your objection somehow manages to be both misogynistic (the women need this protection!) and misandric (because the men are rape beasts!) at the same time ...

        1. NotAnotherSkippy   9 years ago

          1) No, because there are laws against it. Just like if we had a law which banned guns, there would be no more gun deaths.
          2) Of course they can't. Everyone knows that only the powerful can victimize. And only white, male heterosexuals are powerful. Therefore they can never be victimized by lesbians. QED, really.
          3) Well nearly. If you had qualified that as college bathrooms with their 20% annual rape rate, then you would be correct.

Do try to keep up. The dialectic waits for no xhe.

    Bill Nye the Fascist Guy

The Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) posted a video to YouTube on Thursday with Bill Nye 'The Science Guy,' discussing whether "climate deniers" and energy CEOs should be jailed like war criminals.

"We'll see what happens, was it appropriate to jail the guys at Enron?" Nye asked. "Was it appropriate to jail people from the cigarette industry who insisted that this addictive product was not addictive?"

"For me, as a taxpayer and voter, the introduction of this extreme doubt about climate change is affecting my quality of life as a public citizen," he continued. "So I can see where people are very concerned about this and are pursuing criminal investigations as well as in engaging in discussions like this."

    1. Anomalous   9 years ago

Based on his logic, the Pope was right to go after Galileo.

      1. HeteroPatriarch   9 years ago

There is no logic, just straight pandering to the "I fucking love science!" crowd. That's what he's banking the rest of his career on. Him and the astronomer are the only two "scientists" 90% of those retards can name, so I think he's made the right choice.

    2. Caligula   9 years ago

      "climate deniers"

Why haven't they started using "climate heretics" or "climate infidels" yet? They need to step up the religious rhetoric.

      1. waffles   9 years ago

It's not as if the "deniers" deny that there is a climate. Heretic, apostate, infidel all work.

        1. Derp-o-Matic 5000   9 years ago

I hope they go with infidel, so we can start referring to them as "climate jihadists."

      2. tarran   9 years ago

Ironically, the global warming cult are the climate change deniers; since the Earth's climate is not warming catastrophically despite the CO2 increase, they've had to resort to the dodge that what variation has occured over the past 30 years dramatically different than at any point in recorded history and that thus the climate is now "out of control".

This claim of stability is bullshit as any archaeologist specializing in the Roman and medieval periods can tell you. Thus, the cultists are actually in the odd position of denying past climate change.

        They are the true deniers.

      3. Catatafish & Woodchips   9 years ago

I was just a boy when the infidels came to my village in their Blackhawk helicopters. The infidels fired at the oil fields and they lit up like the eyes of Allah. Burning oil rained down from the sky and cooked everything it touched. I could only hide myself and cry as my goats were consumed by the fiery black liquid death. In the midst of the chaos, I could swear that I heard my goats screaming for help. As quickly as they had come, the infidels were gone. It was on that day I put a jihad on them. And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too.

Does this mean the dark night of fascism is no longer falling on America?

    1. tarran   9 years ago

Nope. Cruz is not a fascist. Trump, Clinton and Sanders* are.

It's not surprising; when nation states get in trouble, the political classes tend to get very reactionary.

I only can go by the definitions of words in the dictionary. If you want to define the words differently, that is your right. But I am not obliged to agree. He is not fascist by any reasonable definition of the term.

            1. tarran   9 years ago

              You mean the definition:

a ?political ?system ?based on a very ?powerful ?leader, ?state ?control of ?social and ?economic ?life, and ?extreme ?pride in ?country and ?race, with no ?expression of ?political ?disagreement ?allowed

Let's see he's going to make China buy more of our stuff, build a wall (siezing a fair amoutn of territory to do it) and force the residents of another country to pay for it, wants to criminalize opposition to him. Has claimed he is not adverse to deporting adherents of a major religion to prevent them from threatening the security of the state. Claims he has a plan that will make "us" win so much that we will get tired of winning.

I'm starting to wonder if the parasite that killed MNG has infected your brain, because you are picking a very stupid hill to die on.

              1. John   9 years ago

He has never advocated for "state control of economic" life in any way that would rise to the level of fascism.

Let's see he's going to make China buy more of our stuff

Protectionism, whatever you think of it is not fascism.

And neither is securing the border. Yeah, I get it, you think anyone who is not for totally open borders and complete free trade is a fascist. And if that is how you want to define the term, I can't argue with you. I can only tell you that is not what it means to the rest of the world.

              2. wareagle   9 years ago

Let's see he's going to make China buy more of our stuff, build a wall (siezing a fair amoutn of territory to do it) and force the residents of another country to pay for it, wants to criminalize opposition to him.

How is he going to do this? Bernie talks about free college and other gimmes, but no one believes that, either.

              3. R C Dean   9 years ago

a ?political ?system ?based on a very ?powerful ?leader

                Got that already.

?state ?control of ?social and ?economic ?life

                That, too.

                ?extreme ?pride in ?country

Until very recently, common to every serious candidate.

                and ?race

Leaving aside the technicality that "Muslims" and "Mexicans" are not a race, Trump is actually pushing pride in America and being American, without regard, as far as I can tell, for race. He's not crazy about non-Americans coming here, because he thinks that it might make this non-America, but I really don't think he's a white supremacist.

with no ?expression of ?political ?disagreement ?allowed

I suppose there's an interesting debate to be had about who is more hostile to political disagreement in this race.

My score: Trump's not a fascist in any way that separates him from the field.

        2. lulztopian   9 years ago

Self defense and an armed populace while better than being unarmed does not help you much against a group of people who hide in the population and don't care if they die while murdering you. I don't care how well armed I am, it won't do me any good when the guy walking past me on the side walk or sitting next to me on the train decides to blow himself up.

More importantly, the point of self defense is not just to stop an attack it is also to deter people from attacking you in the first place. A society where you have to be armed and on guard whenever you are in public is not a very free one. So, self defense is not going to keep you free if you are confronted with a group of people fanatical enough not to be deterred by the threat of death or prison.

        1. tarran   9 years ago

And if the train owner is afraid of this group of bombers hiding in the population, what's to stop him from banning Mohammedans? Or making everyone walk through a device that scans the air around them for plastique molecules?

          1. John   9 years ago

The discrimination laws for one thing. But beyond that, you seem to understand my point. Unless you want to create an unbelievable police state, your only alternative is to not let the group in your society in the first place. The train owner's choices are no different than the government's choices. Stomp on everyone or just not let them on your train.

            1. tarran   9 years ago

Unless you want to create an unbelievable police state, your only alternative is to not let the group in your society in the first place.

No, John. I am saying that in a free society (and public accomodation laws are a very serious violation of people's civil rights) there are great tools for people to protect themselves against fanatics determined to violently alter the society.

The train owner's choices are no different than the government's choices.

The train owner has to bear the consequences of his actions. The government officials do not. The train owner's choices only affect his property; the government officials decisions affect all of us.

              1. John   9 years ago

No, John. I am saying that in a free society (and public accommodation laws are a very serious violation of people's civil rights)

How does the train owner know they are Muslims? And how does not letting them on the train prevent them from attacking it. And letting people discriminate against Muslims won't make public spaces any safer. Are you not going to let Muslims walk the streets? And even if you did, how would you prevent them from doing so?

Forget it. Muslims are leaving us with some very tough choices. There is no way around it.

                1. gaoxiaen   9 years ago

Just put provide toilet paper at the train station entrances. If a person wipes their butt then they can get on the train.

Lawyers = Will This Go Any Further?

A lawsuit can proceed against the maker of the gun used in the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 children and 6 adults dead, a Connecticut judge ruled on Thursday.

Bushmaster, manufacturer of the AR-15 assault weapon used in the attack in Newtown, Connecticut, had asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit, saying it was protected by a 2005 federal law blocking lawsuits against gunmakers when their products were used in the commission of crimes.

I thought the PLCA Act was pretty clear

    1. John   9 years ago

The judge is a hack. The law in question has an exception for cases where the manufacturer is actually negligent. So if the gun were defective and that harmed someone, the person could still sue. For example, say the gun was being used in a robbery and it malfunctioned and went off hitting you. You could sue the gun manufacturer under the law.

The judge here has bought into the plaintiff's argument that making a gun that has "no legitimate civilian use" is negligent under the terms of the law". It is a complete sham. Stupid fucking bitch.

      1. GILMORE?   9 years ago

The law in question has an exception for cases where the manufacturer is actually negligent.

        That makes sense.

The judge here has bought into the plaintiff's argument that making a gun that has "no legitimate civilian use" is negligent under the terms of the law". It is a complete sham

Ah. I scanned through the story and they didn't seem to note that at all. (unless I missed it)

So is the short answer to my question, "a higher court will toss this out"?

        1. John   9 years ago

The reporter who wrote the story is apparently retarded. The story is worthless. So I googled the case and found this story from a few weeks ago that explains the arguments.

          http://www.courant.com/news/co.....story.html

        2. Catatafish & Woodchips   9 years ago

Any judge that engages in a plain reading of the PLCA would've thrown this out. Criminal misuse of a product does not create liability for the manufacturer of an otherwise legal product in commerce. A higher court should toss this out, preferably heavy on the "fuck you" dicta to the trial judge.

        3. DaveSs   9 years ago

A higher court will likely throw this out.

The plaintiffs are basically claiming that AR15s have 'no legitimate civilian use' and by selling to civilians they are negligently entrusting civilians with them.

Considering the millions of people who safely use them for civilian purposes that argument falls on its face pretty fast.

      2. Pope Jimbo   9 years ago

Since when is 'being able to kill a lot of people (like govt thugs)" not a legitimate civilian use?

    Oh, Donald

""Is there a favorite Bible verse or Bible story that has informed your thinking or your character through life, sir?" asked host Bob Lonsberry on WHAM 1180 AM.

Trump responded, "Well, I think many. I mean, when we get into the Bible, I think many, so many. And some people, look, an eye for an eye, you can almost say that. That's not a particularly nice thing. But you know, if you look at what's happening to our country, I mean, when you see what's going on with our country, how people are taking advantage of us, and how they scoff at us and laugh at us. And they laugh at our face, and they're taking our jobs, they're taking our money, they're taking the health of our country. And we have to be firm and have to be very strong. And we can learn a lot from the Bible, that I can tell you.""

We...I mean...sometimes they are mean to me and this is damaging to the USA. That is why I made these great trucker hats that say Make America Great again, so we are no longer laughed at and America will be rich and awesome.

    And the Bible also.

    1. The Last American Hero   9 years ago

      What an idiot.

Newsflash, if you plan on winning a presidential election in this country, pick a bible verse for your favorite and have that bitch chambered for when the inevitable question comes up. The correct answer, by the way, is this:

Well, there's so much wisdom in the Good Book, but my favorite story is probably the story of the prodigal son, since nobody is perfect and while we all identify with the older son, the reality is that we are the younger son.

It's pretty vanilla, doesn't have any weird policy implications like rendering shit unto Caesar or paying all the workers the same, and is one everyone is familiar with.

There ya go Donald. I won't even charge you for it.

      1. BigT   9 years ago

I prefer the Good Samaritan because it shows that religious people (the temple worker) can be a-holes and heathens (Samaritans) can be nice. It burns the fundies as well.

Somebody should have pointed out to Trump that the "eye for an eye" doesn't mean "go hurt people who have hurt you" so much as "let the punishment fit the crime, but no more than that", i.e., it's advising against cruel and unusual or extra-legal or disproportionate punishment. Like say, killing the innocent family members of suspected terrorists.

And anybody listening to Trump for more than 5 minutes has to be thinking of John 11:35.

And one of my own favorites, Job 42:3 - "Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not." Job challenged God to explain Himself to Job, God gave him the ol' stink-eye and asked him just who the hell he thought he was talking to, and Job hastily apologized, said he had forgotten his place and was just talking smack, and then he shut right the hell up. Or as a wise man once said, "A man's gotta know his limitations".

From the child porn teacher link.

This story has been corrected to remove a reference to an allegation that a student was gang-raped by members of the maintenance department. The plaintiff's attorney says the incident was a mock sex assault.

What the hell is a "mock sexual assault"?

And the teacher is dead. So the plaintiffs, who apparently smoked a lot of pot and discovered the joys of sodomy, are just looking for a payout from the school.

A leftist realizes she cares about her daughter so she's going to send her to a good private school instead of shitty public schools. This garners the following responses from Guardian readers.

    "drsong 23 Jul 2012 14:52

Based on my own (albeit limited) experience of teaching in both state and private schools. I can safely say that the only advantage of the latter was to see the overpaid and under-taxed pi**ing away their money on something they could have got for free if it weren't for their pathological fear of their offspring having to mix with the lower orders. Of course the state sector has its problems, but they certainly don't have the monopoly on poor teaching."

    And my favorite:

"The comprehensive system was built on the premise that all children should be given the same opportunities in a non-selective environment. Why is that so difficult to grasp? And mediocrity is produced by competition."

Mediocrity is produced by competition. Without competition, everybody is the best at everything.* It's only through competition that we find the best, the standard by which mediocrity can be established. It's why we now all get participant trophies - it's just too judgemental and uninclusive to say one is better than another.

*Don't think too much about the fact that without competition everybody is the worst at everything as well.

The prominent liberal commentator Andrei Kolesnikov writes that the current Russian leadership is bent on "making unfreedom sacred" ? since "the new social contract demands that the Russian people surrender their freedom in return for Crimea and a sense of national pride."
