No! Not Merle!
At least we still have Lou Reed.
Lou Reed hit hardest
RIP
Merle is the very definition of the word "legend". If there was a country music Mount Rushmore, he'd be on it.
Tonight the bottle let me down
And let your memory come around
The one true friend I thought I'd found
Tonight the bottle let me down
Ah, yes. 8-(
Doing a duet with George Jones.
I haz much fishy sad.
I think I'll sit right here and drink.
Hello.
Mentioned the Jays this morning. Gibbons wasn't impressed during the after game press conference to say the least. Quite frankly, I can see why.
So we had four interesting Champions League quarterfinals this week.
And I saw little of it because I had no time.
But I see Bundesliga continues to do well.
PSG was wasteful; the parts I saw anyway,
Ibrahimovi? missed a penalty.
That I saw. Poorly taken.
True story. I was practicing messing around with a couple of Greek soccer players years ago. One of them even played pro as a keeper and was part of one of the academies (I forget which - I want to say Olympiakos but it may have been AEK - it's been over 15 years. Anyway...) we were taking penalties against him and I scored four straight times on him.
I can sense his anger. Loved it. We lefties are crafty.
Watched the matches yesterday. Unfortunate what happened to Atletico. Still, that away goal is pretty helpful. Won't spoil the DVR crowd but wow is one of those results from today shocking.
*googles*
I like it!
Barack Obama will appear on Fox News Sunday for the first time in his presidency.
Belly of the beast.
Fearless Leader is so inspiring!
President Obama has no asshole. He has no need for one.
His ever-expanding reserve of bullshit is both fuel and finished product.
False flag!
Is Obama so vain and stupid that he thinks that his appeal to conservatives to reject Trump on Fox News Sunday would do anything other than garner even more support for Trump?
Wait, ? just wait. Give the man a chance to speaHAHAHAHAHAAA!! Damn, couldn't quite get it out!
Shoot, the more Obama and his like come out against Trump, the harder it will be for me to vote third party in November. I'll probably end up deciding on the basis of the lesser evil again, which means that if it's Trump vs. Hillary or Bernie, I'll have to vote Trump... ugh. But Obumbles decided to screw me over at one of my jobs, and I've lost money because of it (can only work 27 hrs instead of 30 or 30+ when it was necessary). Anything that he says gets taken with a huge grain of salt, analyzed to see what his angle is, and how that angle will screw me. Not that Trump wouldn't screw me over, it's just that I think he'd deadlock Congress pretty well, whereas Hillary would find a way to get things done, and manage to more efficiently deprive me of my first and second amendment rights.
Hillary Clinton says she's "not even sure" Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a Democrat.
I thought there was no question he wasn't a Democrat. What is she not sure about? Is he a registered member of the party? No? Then he's not a Democrat.
Senior moment.
Is he a registered member of the party? No? Then he's not a Democrat.
I would have thought that being on the primary ballot would count too. But I really don't give a fuck, so what do I know?
Crazy? Check.
Sanctimonious? Check.
Loves to spend OP $? Check.
Loves Socialism? Check.
Economic illiterate? Check
I could go on but he sounds like a Democrat to me.
Well, yeah, all those things. But he isn't voting for Hillary, so he can't be a democrat.
Isn't the obvious followup to that statement, "So if he's not a Democrat, how come so many Democratic voters are picking him over you?"

Critical race theorists are starting to complain that the musical Hamilton, which casts non-whites in the roles of historical white figures, is too white.
Not enough rhythm.
The Slate author's name is Rebecca Onion. Maybe they're trying satire?
"Slate would like to retroactively categorize the following 1,138 articles from last year as satire."
Hillary Clinton says she's "not even sure" Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a Democrat.
That lack of knowledge is totally unacceptable in a candidate for the presidency!
Sanders lacks the transparency of a Clinton.
Hillary Clinton says she's "not even sure" if she was under sniper fire in Bosnia.
Hey, this is fun!
Ooh, let me try!
"Hillary Clinton says she's 'not even sure' if she *had* a private server."
At this point, Hillary Clinton says she's "not even sure" if it matters!
+1 superdelegate for Bernie
"Bill Clinton says he's 'not even sure' if he had sexual relations with that woman."
Critical race theorists are starting to complain that the musical Hamilton, which casts non-whites in the roles of historical white figures, is too white.
more proof we will never reach peak derp
Not as long as there are critical race theorists around to constantly push the ceiling up.
He responded to backlash over the comment by saying everyone needed "to lighten up a little bit."
Yeah, good luck with that.
Ugh. Not ok. I can't even.
That'll help fan the flames
Barack Obama will appear on Fox News Sunday for the first time in his presidency.
Only Nixon could go to China.
Merle Haggard is dead.
Well, he had been looking a bit, well, you know.
RIP, Merle.
[narrows gaze]
Executions around the world are at a 25-year high, according to an Amnesty International report.
I haven't read the report, but if they threw in ISIS, I can see why.
According to the rights group's annual report the dramatic increase was fueled by three nations -- Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia -- who together were responsible for nearly 90% of executions in 2015.
No, not ISIS, though they all have something in common with ISIS.
So it's about Springtime for Arabs. good to know.
Ha, no. Might have to consider what they have in common with Punjabis, Pashtuns, and Persians. And since Arab doesn't start with P... (although Palestinian does, so, there's that)
""""Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia -- who together were responsible for nearly 90% of executions in 2015."""
Strange, their map shows China with 1000+ which is the largest number shown.
Odd. I was quoting from the link, though, not the report itself.
I'm guessing it means 90% of the increase.
Hillary Clinton says she's "not even sure" Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a Democrat.
Where's his membership card?
Has he signed any loyalty oaths today?
He might have gotten in this year.
She does have a point, and I've seen some things saying he could be ineligible for some primaries.
My Bernie is not a communist. He may be a liar, a pig, an idiot, a communist, but he is *not* a porn star!
If he's not a porn star, then where does SugarFree get his material?
OMWC yells at cloud.
Old Man With Communism?
+1 poop deck
What's a jib?
What's a pederast, Walter?
You rang?
Whats dropping faster, the MLB or NBA?
NASCAR?
Women's soccer?
I haven't been paying attention outside of soccer forums - has this ridiculous EEOC thing blown up, stayed the same, dropped off the radar entirely?
The level of uninformed opinion was fucking staggering the past several days, then Abby Wambach got rung up for DUI (which caused two Men's team players with immigrant roots to bring back up her amazingly stupid comments from months ago on that on Twitter).
Has any sense come to the people who may not be as up on how the game is played and run, etc. in the interim?
I missed that. What did she Tweet?
She criticized Klinsmann for bringing in "a bunch of these foreign guys" on the USMNT. Classy.
There's probably a "jobs Americans won't do" joke in there about soccer...
She was pissy that Klinsmann was getting so many dual nationals and that they were actually helping. You know, the usual provincialism. She'd probably vote for Trump if he wasn't so homophobic.
Woooow.
What an idiot.
As noted above, provincialism at its best and I see that creep up from time to time here.
The fucked up thing is that she had the USWNT's built-in army of SJWs defending the hell out of here. Even a lot of USMNT fans were agreeing, but most of that was motivated by an abiding hatred of Klinsmann.
I think eventually, most USMNT fans who understand history, the game, etc. ended up winning the day and it all sort of went away - until she got the DUI on the same weekend after the EEOC complaint was filed by that asshole Kessler.
They haven't been helping very much lately. And frankly I don't see much of a future in depending on the sons of American servicemen in Europe to fuel the USMNT. She may have expressed it "indelicately" but she has a point.
What point is that, exactly?
Note that it's virtually impossible to be dismissed from the USWNT once you make it - because they draw actual salaries from USSF, guaranteed, regardless of whether they're good enough to make the team or not.
Well, without investigating I suspect she means the same thing a lot of other people complain about: that all these quasi-furriners are distracting from the need to develop more home-grown players.
Also, complaining about "provincialism" is a little odd when we're talking about *national* teams - it's kind of the whole point.
That's a viewpoint that is nearly completely without merit in the modern game. EVERY national team (that isn't composed of upper-middle-class sorority sisters) uses foreign-born players to one extent or another, even the Dutch and French who are famous for their youth development structures (actually, ESPECIALLY those two countries). Germany, too.
Except that in the case of the players Wambach was complaining about, they almost to a man natural-born US citizens, so it's not even "provincialism" (which sounds suspiciously like moving the goalposts). The proportion of players who have been naturalized citizens is pretty small in the US, and most of them are not mercenaries these days (like Alex for Japan, for example, or most of Qatar's team).
It seems to have dropped off the radar entirely. ESPN flogged it hard for a day or two as expected, but they must not have gotten any traction because I haven't seen anything since.
I don't think anyone really cares about income disparities among pro athletes; those wired to give a shit about such trivialities often don't believe there should even be pro sports.
I yawned when I heard it.
I wonder if ESPN shut up about it because none other than Julie Foudy, writing for ESPNw found in her records a clause in the CBAs around the time she was active that actually had a revenue-based escalator in them, abiding by ratio of revenue brought in. Neither the lawyer who filed it nor the representative players knew a thing about it. USSF confirmed that it is still an active clause.
Credit to Foudy for finding it and presenting it, and not trying to bury it.
I don't know how, but I'm pretty sure you Godwined a sport thread.
Oh sure, bash the MLB the one year the Cubs go 2-0
Gold!!!!! Haha you silly peanuts!
/Buttplug
Is he for or against it? Please tell me against as I've been buying silver and gold buillons in small quantities.
He refers to H&R commenters as goldbugs. Says buying gold is for stupid Teathuglikkkans
He is happy when gold prices drop
I mean I'd like it to go down. But only because I want to buy it
Good. Phew.
The NFL.
I occasionally hear that they should lower the hoop for women to make it more like the men's game. I say, raise the bar for men to make it more like the women's game. The women's final four is a lot more fun to watch than the NBA.
The women's final four is a lot more fun to watch than the NBA.
Who doesn't love forty point blowouts every game?
Apparently better to go to bed early than wait for buzzer-beating upsets.
They let women play basketball??!?
He responded to backlash over the comment by saying everyone needed "to lighten up a little bit."
Racist, straight up.
Uh, we know. The walkers got him.

Female Ghostbusters?
Definitely. But it will only lead to a manhole under Times Square.
That euphemism....a little obscure, but, fun nonetheless.
So now he's fat-shaming women too!?
dafuq??
I'm waiting for the musical that has Martin Luther King, Jr played by a white man.
Make him gay, I'll buy tickets to that.
I learned in school that all famous historical figures were gay.
Yes, any man who had a close relationship with any other man was clearly gay.
Just hire Rachel Dolezal to play him.
You're on to something here. Have a clearly white person who identifies as black play the part.
I read it so y'all don't have to. It is not actually that terrible on the derp scale, though I know that is a really low bar. Lots of uses of the word problematic, but not ridiculously, over-the-top strident. It was mostly just absolutely useless as "criticism," all look-at-me social signaling and pure self-regard.
I know it wasn't that bad on the derp scale because even the SJWs in the comments were non-plussed. I assume there is an inverse relationship.
Critical race theorists are starting to complain that the musical Hamilton, which casts non-whites in the roles of historical white figures, is too white.
"What do I do? Well, I'm a critical race theorist."
"Oh, cool! I loved studying PERT and stuff in OR class. But we called it 'critical *path* method' back then".
"Watch How Satisfying It Is to See LEGOs Get Crushed In A Hydraulic Press"
Step on you twice, shame on me.
Awesome! Thanks!
That will never not be cool.
They apparently have an entire channel dedicated to "Hydraulic press crushing X," so once again the internet wins. And Citizen X beware!
What happens if a hydraulic press crushes a wood chipper?
That was great! Thanks!
Um, I mean -- "Oh, NOOOOOOO!!"
"You're terminated, fucker."
China has extended a ban on imports from North Korea in an effort to exert pressure on the erratic regime.
Didn't China get the memo? The way to deal with a brutal totalitarian regime next door is to trade with them and send them as much money as possible. That is the solution for Cuba.
No, the way to deal with a brutal totalitarian regime next door is to impose a total embargo until they accept the democracy they so desperately crave. That was the solution for Cuba.
Yeah. Lets send them money. It is not like the government will steal the money and use it to fund their regime. I mean they wouldn't do something like that would they? Trade is magical. Anyone involved in it suddenly becomes virtuous and free.
Or we could, you know, let people do what they want with their own money.
Are you actually opposed to ending the Cuba embargo, or just stirring up some shit?
Sure Zeb. If your position is, people should have a right to spend their money in the shithole, that is fine. Just don't piss on my leg and tell me it is raining by pretending that doing that will somehow magically make Cuba free through the magic of trade.
Yeah, that's my position. I also think more trade will help improve life for Cubans in general. I don't expect any magical or sudden transformation, but I think it is an improvement. It's not as if 50 years of embargo hurth the Castros' position.
Let me ask you this. Do you think we ought to embargo every country with shitty authoritarian leaders, or is Cuba somehow special?
Yeah, that's my position. I also think more trade will help improve life for Cubans in general.
I don't see how. All of the money is going to end up in the Castro's pockets. Did Venezuela selling oil benefit the people there once Chavez took over? No. It just made his bitch daughter a billionaire.
If you want to fund the Catro's, that is of course your right. But you shouldn't kid yourself into thinking you are helping anyone but therm.
Yup.
They have to die and then hope Cuba has a peaceful transition into real governance.
They being the Two Rats.
Wait, wait, wait! What's Trump's position on this?
Seriously, we do not spread freedom with a gun or an embargo. We spread it thru cultural pollination....and spreading material envy.
Normalizing relations with Cuba is the only good thing Obama has ever done. In 5 years it will do more to change the island than 50 years of embargo have done.
Trade has helped the people in China and Vietnam and a lot of places and helped their shitty leaders stay in power. So there is a bit of a dilemma there. But I say improving people's lives is more important than sticking it to dictators. Other old commie fucks figured out that letting the people benefit from trade was good for them, I don't see how Castro is so different.
I could be wrong there. But I still say people can send their money to that shithole if they want to.
Sure it has Zeb. But those countries are not Cuba. Cuba has shown zero interest in doing anything but having a very tightly controlled tourism industry that the Castros can loot.
Not every country is the same. It is fair to say the embargo hasn't made Cuba free. it hasn't. But I think people are delusional if they think trade will make it free.
Let me ask you this. Do you think we ought to embargo every country with shitty authoritarian leaders, or is Cuba somehow special?
Zeb's on to something. EMBARGO DC!
The one argument that could be made for not ending the embargo is that was a pretty big carrot that we gave them for nothing concrete in return. Lifting the embargo should have come with some strings for the regime, considering the importance the Castros seem to place on it.
Or we could, you know, let people do what they want with their own money.
You sir, like Sanders, are clearly no Democrat.
And the similarity ends there, thank goodness.
You are still free, of course, to impose your own personal Cuban embargo.
The NKorean method is to be belligerent and threatening and then wait for the US to give you shit to make you stop.
But they only get a little bit each time.
Cuba is playing the long game.
Let's call the whole thing off.
No, no, no! You give them billions of dollars, lift the arms embargo, and ask super nice that they don't nuke Isreal.
And pretend not to notice when they immediately violate the terms of the deal.
Does North Korea actually export anything?
Yes, illicit nuclear technology and hungry, desperate people.

Good band name.
Never mind.
"April 19 is the first day of a 13-day period of time known as 'the Blood Sacrifice to the Beast' that culminates on the high occult holy day of Beltane on May 1. April 19 is also the date of the Feast of Moloch, an ancient Canaanite god that is repeatedly vilified in the Old Testament."

If this is true, this is the most important invention of the century and one of the most important in history.
You would think some progress would happen with this in three years.
No kidding I didn't realize the link was that old. Nevermind. This must have fizzled.
Lockheed also made promises about a fusion reactor that could be towed by a truck that will be ready in about 10 years. Lockheed may be leading the way in fantastical promises about future technology.
I remember another article almost 10 years ago (read it in the Early Bird so I can't remember the source) that talked about a developing tech (sounded mature) that would be fitted to the exhaust pipe of a humvee or LTMV which would condense the exhaust and fill a tank in the back of the truck with potable water by the end of 8-12 hours cross-country driving (ie. crossing the desert, etc).
Don't think I've ever seen any follow-up on that one. 🙁
Like the spray painted solar panels for troops to recharge batteries....might just be taking a lot longer to get approved.
*** snort ***
They probably just add high fructose corn syrup to it.
Lockheed didn't build that.
Gaia made that water with salt for a reason
Gaia made people smart enough to invent desalinization for a reason too, presumably.
I think there are a few materials science problems to be worked out before industrial-scale graphene desalination plants are in operation. Still, carbon nanostructures will be to 21st century materials science what plastics were to the 20th century. Not quite as profoundly disruptive as semiconductors, but look around you and much of what you see is largely made of some type of plastic.
The commercialization of this technology will likely create another chapter in the industrial revolution. The question remains whether the US will be the leader in advancing exploiting this technology. It is going to require lots of capital and lots of R&D, and the US has become rather hostile to people with the capital to invest. Also, this technology could be so disruptive that it upsets the cronies that control politicians, and I'm sure the lunatic fringe of the environmental movement can interject all sorts of objections. Better to invest somewhere else.
There are a lot of people without access to *clean* drinking water - salt-free, not so much.
This would be a boon to those people who insist in living in large cities in places with insufficient ground water *but* also have access to the ocean - which is basically a 'First World Problem'.
Access to cell phones is probably the most important invention of the latter half of the 20th century and I would say automated vehicles will be the most important of the first half of this one.
Not cheap desalinization.
Phew. I was reading and reading and reading, wondering... when's she gonna turn this into BOOOOSH! Imagine my relief when she finally rang that bell.
China has extended a ban on imports from North Korea in an effort to exert pressure on the erratic regime.
Does NorkLand export anything, aside from starving refugees?
Threats?
Counterfeit $100 bills. And jeans or something.
They have a small carbon footprint, so they are clearly doing something right
Priest with rosary mistaken for Klansman on Indiana campus.
That's a bad habit to have in that neighborhood.
It was a priest, not a nun.
Ok, I've used up my narrowed gaze for this thread. Anyone? Switzy? Anyone?
The girl's twitter account linked to the article is a hoot! She's the stereotypical SJW college moron. (Sorry Warty, i forgot that COLLUGE IS ONLEE FUR SMAHRT PEEPOUL)

Like the fact that he was actually out to lynch somebody was *the* reasonable assumption. I wonder if men covering campus, dressed in blue, and carrying guns puts them at ease?
He was out to diddle children. It is the only logical explanation.
Baby Trials and Trippelations aka Elias Gabriel was born April 1st weighing 8 pounds 14.5 ounces. He would've been 9 pounds but he had a massive poop immediately after birth.
Yes this was posted in the AM links a few days ago, but wanted the LA folks to see.
Are us LA folks invited to the Bris?
You missed the Bris.
I think my father in law almost passed out when he saw the guaze around Elias' penis after the circ.
Barbaric.
I've been to exactly one Bris. I'm not Jewish, but my ex's sister married a Jew. So yeah, there I was, watching them stick a cloth soaked in wine inside the baby's mouth to numb him up a bit. Never again. Also, I got a free circumcision card from the Mohel because I was apparently the only one there who knew that Bris meant covenant.
As in buy one get one free?
I think more of a half-off deal.
Be here all week folks!
"Also, I got a free circumcision..."
That could have been interesting had you stopped there.
I was cut way back in '91. I'll probably sell the card on Craigslist.
Pics?
Weirdo.....sure.
Sure the circumcision is free, but you have to leave the guy a tip...
Oh you poor, poor man.
I mean, congrats!
Haha. Even the dog suffered with lack of sleep.
Congratulations
Congratulations.
Congrats!!!
Congratulations. I hope you stocked up on sleep...because there is likely not to be much for a year or so.
I had no idea you were that into sports statistics.
*narrows gaze*
Congrats, man!
PS - while on one of the Reason LA happy hours, Playa gave me the great advice to work on getting the baby to not become dependent on a pacifier. He basically wouldn't let my night continue until I agreed to take his advice seriously.
Seriously, seriously glad I did. My girl sleeps like a f'n champ now and I can't relate at all to the myriad of difficulties my other friends have with their kids and pacifiers.
Elias hates pacifiers at the time. Boobs are the only thing that makes him happy
"Critical race theorists are starting to complain that the musical Hamilton, which casts non-whites in the roles of historical white figures, is too white."
His explanation:
""It's still white history. And no amount of casting people of color disguises the fact that they're erasing people of color from the actual narrative."""
So...how exactly are you supposed to tell the story of Alexander Hamilton without the narrative mostly concerning white people?
"In February, performance studies scholar James McMaster, writing for HowlRound, pointed out how completely the show fails to pass the Bechdel test."
Jesus fucking Christ.
I know this has been pointed out a number of times, but lesbian porn passes the Bechdel test, so I don't think it's a very good test when it comes to measuring gender equity.
performance studies scholar James McMaster
Stop, right there. Just... stop.
"how completely the show fails to pass the Bechdel test."
I'm pretty sure that is wrong. I believe there are a few lines where the women discuss the revolution and current events. Of course it circles back to Hamilton, because he's, y'know, the star of the show and relevant to every scene, but if my recollection is right, it does not "completely" fail the stupid test that Bechdel herself denounces.
To be fair, good lesbian porn passes every test I've ever given it.
/no fat chicks/plaid/mullets
Damn fine euphemism there, Bob.
You missed one,
/senior
You're not supposed to tell the story of Alexander Hamilton, period.
GODDAMMIT
"I loved [Miranda's first Broadway musical] In the Heights. I thought it was incredible. So I definitely wanted to see whatever he did next. But I was super skeptical of the concept of Hamilton, because it seemed like a really weird choice for somebody who had done something that I thought was so revolutionary in In the Heights, in terms of talking about nonwhite immigrants in New York today. To go from that to doing really mainstream Founding Fathers history just seemed weird, like a strange choice. Then when we finally went to the theater to see it, of course I was excited because by then it was already a phenomenon. But I actually turned to my husband right before it started and said, "I think I'm going to hate this!" [laughing] Not just because of my historian hat; more because of my public historian hat. Because I care less about historical details, and much more about the way that we tell stories about the past, and why. "
So your objection is that the story is about The Founding Fathers *at all,* you never gave the show a chance because you said 'I think I'm going to hate this' before it even started, and you admit that you don't really care about historical details.
This is a level of stupidity I rarely get to see.
Not just because of my historian hat; more because of my public historian hat.
What the fuck does that even mean?
I *think* he's alluding to a merkin.
History belongs to the public.
Yes, it only gets worse when they explain further.
"Because I care less about historical details, and much more about the way that we tell stories about the past, and why. "
Then... then shouldn't you like Hamilton? It emphasizes Hamilton's immigrant routes and repeatedly connects the revolutionary ideals with an anti-slavery stance.
She's directly contradicting herself. She didn't like Hamilton because it didn't talk about slavery enough, so her complaints are actually that it *didn't* follow historical detail...which she claims she doesn't care about.
"I think I'm going to hate this!" [laughing] Not just because of my historian hat; more because of my public historian hat. Because I care less about historical details, and much more about the way that we tell stories about the past, and why. "
This is why cults work.
This word "historian." I do not think it means what she thinks it means.
These people are under the impression that the author of the play could have made a play surrounding a less well known and important historical figure of color, and then all the reviewers and audiences would have gone to that play in identical patterns as the Hamilton play. Audience interest is a foreign concept to these types. They don't understand that the stuff they want is already being made, it just doesn't make headlines because most people don't watch that kind of thing.
Her other complaint is that they don't mention slavery enough, but the play isn't about slavery. Basically, if you have a play set in an era where slavery existed, you need to have it heavily focus on how bad the characters are for not hating slavery.
But it's totally hypocritical because if I wrote a book about ancient Arabia, I guarantee this person wouldn't care if I didn't focus on slavery - even though it existed then too. Basically she just has a massive ax to grind on one subject and is pretending this is about morality when it really isn't.
Well there is that too. Some people really just have a hard on for demonizing everyone responsible for our current way of life.
Hey, Irish, are you serious about Lauren Southern? I watched one of her videos after you changed her handle. It was an anti-muslim video which was hilariously lame since they substituted footage of the India-Canada Association (or some such) as a stand-in for muslims. Granted, there are lots of muslims in India, but at least some of the folks pictured were clearly Sikh, and others appeared to be hindu (bindis - do Indian muslims wear those?)
I'm not serious. I'm less not serious than I was with ESB though because, ugh, she makes me want to kill myself.
Oh Tulpy-Poo, such trenchant and piercing analysis. Well, if moronic is trenchant and piercing.
You're right. Let's be real.
That's Monteiro's point. Stunt casting for a story that doesn't real deal with racial issues doesn't magically transform it into some profound commentary on race. The objection isn't to the play itself, it's to the creators trying to pass a fairly conventional musical off as something revolutionary.

Damn, I really should have checked first before making my post.
Hillary Clinton says she's "not even sure" Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a Democrat.
He's not. Next question.
Wasn't Hamilton a mulatto bastard?
I believe that's Heroic Mulatto?
Isn't that redundant?
Ummmm. I guess maybe in the 18th century it was.
He was a bastard, born in the Caribbean. But his parents were both white.

State-Sponsored Green Energy Fucked Everyone; Now the State Will Make Taxpayers Pay $450m To Undo It
Can we just genetically engineer Salmon to stop swimming up stream already. Seriously, hydro electric is a great power source, and does wonders for saving up water during rainy seasons to be distributed during droughts. Freaking Salmon migrations keep getting in the way, though.
I don't know, Tulpy-Poo. Can we genetically engineer you to not be a mendacious sockpuppeting piece of shit? Apparently not.
I thought his latest handle was Rothbard's Bitch.... Did I miss a memo?
Nope, I've been Tulpa for a good month now.
You've always been Tulpa, you mendacious fuck. Are you actually so stupid you think no one would notice the drastic change in the style of "Illocust" from what you started it as and now it sounding...exactly like you? Are you really this fucking dumb?
Of course you are.
What windmill are you tilting at this time, Don Quixote?
You do talk a lot about how you're not Tulpa, which is a very Tulpa thing to do.
They're on to me!
I'm thinking about changing my handle to Tulpa's Dead Pussy.
Only a guilty man would profess his innocence with such frequency!
I think I missed out on this Illocust=Tulpa thing. Then again, my forensic skills at determining tone and cadence from the written word are rather lacking.
It was hilarious. When he was outed, he responded with (unasked) a detailed and defensive description of the dead pussy syndrome. All in the Tulpa voice- just like with Bo, he couldn't or wouldn't keep up a consistent voice. Tulpa is tiresome in his unoriginality.
I am morbidly curious to look into this "dead pussy syndrome" of which you speak. It's like having a rando at a bar say "drink this!" I know I shouldn't but I'm...just...so...thirsty.
My clitoris is numb. The nerves responsible for transporting feelings of pleasure to my brain got severed during a spinal surgery when I was young (bunch of other nerves got severed too, but not important to the question). Makes sex basically pointless, because I'm not going to get anything out of it. That's what OMWC is referring too.
Rothbard's Bitch might actually be an H&R noob. Only time will tell. Tulpa always regresses eventually.
Naaah. From the first comment you could tell it was someone playing a role. I knew right off it was not a sincere rothbardian. It reeked of court appointed addiction counselor to me.
This sounds exactly like something Tulpa would say, tarran.
*raises eyebrow suspiciously*
Shit!
/frantically starts tugging at skin while staring intently at mirror.
If you consider what a Tulpa is in Tibetan superstition, this whole situation is very oddly interesting.
Hey I'm being discussed in Reason's comment section. I'm basically a celebrity now!
Uh, why do you even care? It's one thing when a person hops from handle to handle to facilitate being obnoxious, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
^^^
And let's scare off every newcomer. That'll help expand the tent.
Not like that, crusty.
Tulpa is no newcomer. He's not even an oldcomer. He's just a pathetic pile of steaming feces, ranking somewhere below Shreek on the humanity scale.
That's not really an argument in favor of 'screaming at every newcomer as though they ARE Tulpa' though, is it?
I think the point is that there is no obvious explanation for what exactly is causing you and Epi and the other Nikki alts to start pointing and screeching at a random commenter like Donald Sutherland. To a newcomer who has no idea who the fuck Tulpa is or why they should care or what exactly is so objectionable about Illocust's posts, it probably comes across as off-putting or bizarre.
Though, come to think of it, cautioning against off-putting behavior to someone whose shtick is pretending (hopefully) to be a serial child-rapist is more than a little bit pointless.
OMWC actually thinks I'm Tulpa ant. Honestly these three concentrating on me probably makes the place more welcoming to new comers. Less accusations towards those guys if I'm the one who is supposed to be the sock puppet.
About that Border Wall/Fence Thing...
That was just a La Luche troupe
Mexican spidermen?!? Are they anything like Italian Spiderman?
Because I care less about historical details, and much more about the way that we tell stories about the past, and why.
Let me guess. This person is a college professor, right?
Wasn't there some historical figure (!) who warned us about making truth subservient to politics?
Hitler?
Wasn't there some historical figure (!) who warned us about making truth subservient to politics?
If you can call "communism" an historical figure, then I'd say yes.
Executions around the world are at a 25-year high, according to an Amnesty International report.
Libertarian Moment.
From the Slate article:
But we have no idea what Alexander Hamilton's attitude toward slavery was when he was a boy growing up in the Caribbean. He worked on a slave ship. I mean, chances are probably pretty high that he was in favor of it; that was his livelihood. So few white people were opposed to slavery, especially white people in the Caribbean. It's kind of bonkers to suggest that he was somehow suffering and feeling like slavery was an injustice at that time. There's no historical evidence to back that up.
A person employed by a university actually wrote this.
https://ncas-rutgers.academia.edu/LyraMonteiro
I mean, chances are probably pretty high
I find that IEEE publications frown on this sort of statement. It's probably just male engineering microagression.
This has to be the most gay affirming thread reason has ever had. I mean what is more gay affirming that Broadway?
Hamilton was an ardent abolitionist for his entire adult life. Granted, maybe as a child in the Caribbean, he was pro-slavery, but that's doubtful, given that his childhood mostly shaped his attitudes on slavery because he was up close and personal with it, and slavery in the Caribbean was so much worse than it was on the continent. Moreover, who the fuck cares what a child thinks?
Moreover, who the fuck cares what a child thinks?
No shit.
It's bonkers to think a poor child struggling to survive has any strong opinion on a big question like slavery. He was trying not to starve to death, you idiot.
Well, she spoke it aloud. It's not like that's her prose style, it's her speaking extemporaneously in conversation.
Edit button: "said this."
If she actually wrote it, there would be a lot more post-modernist jargon.

Port Authority Cops Say Surprise Terror Drills Pose Danger to Officers, Public
Warning: Audio auto-start
But what made this test different than the regular drills practiced is that none of the officers in the police department -- not even the supervisors -- knew it was a test. According to president of the Port Authority police union, the consequences could have been deadly.
You know, shit like this *could* be avoided. Just fire the people in charHAHAHAHAHAAA!! Damn, couldn't quite get it out!
I hate the phrase 'person of color'.
It's very triggering.
Since when is white not a color? I never understood that.
White light is composed of all the colors. Therefore, being white is cultural appropriation of everyone.
Point of that phrase is to put everyone who is not white into a bag without using the phrase non-white. Someone realized that defining yourself by not being that guy, gave to much ammo to that guy when he said he was under attack.
Holy fuck you're a moron, Tulpy-Poo.
Technically white is the combination of all colors. Of course, white people aren't actually "white". They're a variety of shades.
"This is our human color wheel. It goes from Seal...to Seal's teeth."
We're all red -- on the inside.

"If I had known it was harmless, I'd have killed it myself."
I can't stop laughing. From the Slate article:
"His dad came as an immigrant from Puerto Rico and was successful"
An immigrant. From Puerto Rico.
Yeah, my mom was an immigrant from Ohio.
It's a politically dangerous narrative, because it has the tendency to obscure the ways in which so many people are blocked from those kinds of opportunities.
Of all the common themes in progressivism, this pisses me off as much as any. The idea that we shouldn't encourage people to try to be successful because there's discrimination in society is actually "dangerous." Imagine if you're a kid in a really shitty situation- would it be better to hear "work had, do your best, stay out of trouble and some day you can have a better life, both for you and your future family" or "don't bother, you're fucked, kid."
Instead of telling people born into less than ideal economic situations to look with admiration at those who were successful despite similarly poor beginnings we tell them to look with anger and envy at everyone who started life with more than them. It's fucking madness.
Self driving trucks hit the road in Europe
The trucks used in Wednesday's test however are still semi-automated and despite computers allowing them to drive by themselves, human drivers were still required on board.
So the increased risk of hacking with no decrease in labor costs. Russian gangsters must be salivating at the thought of being able to hijack trucks remotely.
It's a good first step. Also, there should be a decrease in wrecks and an increase in period of time that the trucks can continue driving. If it doesn't make financial sense, we'll see it go by the wayside rather quickly.
The problem is humans make terrible monitors. Self driving has it backwards. Instead of the computer driving and the human monitoring in case of emergency, the human should drive with the computer monitoring and intervening when the human makes a mistake. That would make them much safer and is likely what we will see.
I lurk on the Professional Pilots Rumor Network, and I have been struk by the number of crashes where the automatics decide they can't handle an odd situation and dump everything on a human pilot's lap, who then promptly puts the plane into the ground or ocean because they have no idea what the plane is doing and their hand flying skills at high altitudes are very rusty.
And when you think about it, automatically piloting a plane is a much easier problem than a self driving car. Planes don't have to deal with road conditions and interact with other planes in close proximity. Also, all of the environmental inputs for a plane, wind speed, location, weather and such can be easily sensed and fed into a computer. Things like traffic signs, potholes, and lane markings are a whole different animal. Self driving cars are total hype.
[Hamilton] was a bastard, born in the Caribbean. But his parents were both white.
Hmmm. I wonder who I was thinking of.
Captain Jack Sparrow?
I think there was a persistent rumor that Hamilton was a mulatto, but that may have been scandal-mongering by the Jeffersonians.

Onion. Tee-hee!
Fine choice, Slate.

Although the person she was interviewing is also a historian, so...
Ahh, right, you're right. I thought Onion was being interviewed.
They're not historians.
They're a couple of nitwits.
Unless I'm misremembering... isn't that a particularly Marxist POV re: History? That the 'mere details' are not as important as the Class-Narratives? particularly narratives about "key figures" (like Hamilton) being less important than the class-relations of a period.
No you are not. Marxist believe that history is inextricably progressing towards a Marxist future. So, any facts or details that don't confirm that are unimportant.
That's why it's so easy to disregard the part they don't like or challenge the narrative.
They're idiots.
Yeah Rufus but they are useful. There is that.

Government-funded free Wi-Fi project isn't providing much Wi-Fi
The goal is to make sure the money gets spent. whether the goals are eventually achieved is irrelevant until there comes a time that they need to justify more spending.
Multiplier!
Just, how are audits not standard procedures. Every level of government has this problem. Crime labs don't get tested with fake cases, websites don't get reviewed in anything but a power point demonstration, and no one actually checks to see if they actually delivered the service they promised too. Aghhh, I know government is unaccountable, but the degree for which it is, you'd think someone in the bureaucracy would get disgusted and try to clean house.
Just out of the blue...I wonder if anyone knows of any good substitutes for PayPal.
Venmo
for what, if you don't mind me asking?
I've also used iEscrow services for larger P2P payments
buying things, eventually receiving money from selling things, personal transactions and maybe some small business
What a consumer or small businessperson would do...AFAIK nothing complicated...
iEscrow services cost a fee - they are generally only worth it when you're buying/selling something in the thousands of bucks.
for regular transactions paypal are the way to go
Google Wallet and Dwolla can be used for a lot of the same services as PayPal (sending and receiving), but aren't accepted as payment plugins at third party checkout systems as widely as PayPal is. I've never used Square, but it is also supposed to be pretty good for small merchants. Amazon Payment Services might be another option as well. If you start doing any kind of high volume selling, it would be worthwhile to open a merchant account for processing payments, as the fees are much lower.
OK, thanks, guys.
Probably old news, but I don't keep up around here as much anymore.
16 Democrat AGs Begin Inquisition Against 'Climate Change Disbelievers'
The CAGW cultists are so convinced that people who don't buy into their unscientific superstitions are part of some grand conspiracy funded by fossil fuel companies that the utter lack of evidence that this conspiracy exists doesn't phase them at all.
What's comical is that the biggest names in promoting "climate change denial" as they term it are guys like Anthony Watts and Steven McIntryre, and those guys routinely are begging for donations so that they can attend conferences.
In the meantime the cultists are getting in some cases millions of dollars of grants from governments, green groups and ideologically motivate organizations that want to move the world to a post capitalism future.
I hope this group turns out to be as big a flop as the "Mayors against illegal guns" efforts.
Climate kafir beware.
Hmmmm, they are going to have a hard time finding companies willing to be their scape goats. Big corporations learned from all the shit that went down with Tobacco. Most oil and gas companies pay tithe to some sort of green charity or initiative that will make them much harder to victimize through the law.
Oh, so all those "natural 100% organic" food companies that pontificate about the completely unproven risks of GMO foods are going to be prosecuted also? Right?
Jesus Christ, that's as stupid as the Italian prosecution of the scientists who failed to predict a big earthquake.
Hey! Where I work, people put stuff on a table and anyone can take it. Someone put out some brand new, black T-shirts for the Coalition of Independent Students. So, you are a cis-shirtlord?
I guess and will be wearing it with pride.

I thought the Commonwealth of Independent States sort of fizzled out.
I GRANT THIS ONE MILLION PROBLEMATICS
"The ad featured four members of the Le Petit Cirque group, an "all-kid humanitarian cirque company," comprised of performers ages 5 to 14. In the ad, an older white girl rests her elbow on top of a young black girl's head, while two other white girls hold poses."
Good news, GAP had not taken that down by the time the video was made and they were not responding to the criticism. Maybe this will become more common. You can scream and gnash teeth all you want, but if the corporation doesn't respond you're screaming into the void.
I'm sure that same pose has been done with two white girls many times. What the fuck is wrong with people? The only way to fight racism is to make everything about race. That will work.
