Ronald Bailey Speaking at Florida Gulf Coast University on Saturday
Students for Liberty Conference on Free Market Environmentalism

Students for Liberty are sponsoring a conference on Free Market Environmentalism on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University this Saturday, April 2nd. The conference runs from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. It aims to educate students on how individual liberty and property rights can solve environmental problems and to provide a voice for libertarian thought in Florida Gulf Coast University's larger environmental conversation. The conference will feature lectures on free-market and property-based environmentalism and discussion about current environmental issues and their possible solutions in Florida.
I am one of the speakers and will be talking about the themes in my book The End of Doom, which show how markets and technological progress are sparking an era of environmental renewal that will unfold over the course of this century.
Other speakers include Institute for Justice attorney Ari Bargil talking on "Chewed up by Regulation: How Federal Food Policy is Destroying the Environment."
Madison Institute scholar Daniel Peterson on "Balancing Property Rights and Everglades Restoration."
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner Liesa Priddy asks "Private Landowner: The Next Endangered Species?"
Heartland Institute fellow Isaac Orr will explain "Friends Don't Let Friends Ban Fracking: A Practical Guide to Understanding and Explaining Fracking to Normal Folks."
If you happen to be on the southern Gulf Coast of Florida this weekend consider dropping by. Go here for more details and to register.
Note: The organizers warn that an environmental action group is threatening to disrupt the event. Nothing like free speech on campus.

He Ron, I will give you ten bucks to write Trump 2016 on one of the sidewalks.
I'M OUT OF POINTS... I CAN'T MAKE ANY MORE PROMOTED COMMENTS!
I thought Florida Gulf Coast University was supposed to be under water by now due to global warming.

The science is already settled (individual liberty and property rights are the cause of all the troubles in the world and only Sandersman can save us now) and the students have already moved on to silencing the deniers who wrongly think their evil lies and propaganda are covered by the First Amendment. There's a time for talking and a time for action and the time for talking is over. You had your chance to listen to reason and you didn't take it, now you'll have to answer to force.
For my part, as a libertarian I believe in dealing with people as they see fit to deal with other people - if they think it's fine to make other people shut up I don't have a problem with making them shut up. Either we all have free speech or none of us do, you can't expect me to agree that only you have a right to free speech when we're debating who has the right to free speech. BTW - I'm also a strong proponent of the Second Amendment and I believe a lot of the people opposed to the First are also opposed to the Second, so we'll just see who shuts up whom.
Hey Ron, maybe I'll see you there. I'm probably not going to register because I don't want to stay for the whole thing, but I would like to see your presentation.
It'll be interesting to see if the disruption materializes. Students here have been generally onboard with the "best way to combat speech is with more speech" idea, and we have hosted some other events that would have seemed more likely to draw disrupters, but didn't. If any group is planning on any actual disruptions (as opposed to just protests), it is probably a group of non-students. Fracking has been a huge issue down here of late, and lots of people (most of whom know little about it) are convinced that it will KILL US ALL!!!!!!
I was not suprised to see this article written by Ron Bailey.
Hope nobody asks you about woodchippers or the Reason commentariat in general.
Good luck explaining the Heartland Institute's Science Director to normal folks.
He speaks with real authority on the hockey stick fraud and the global warming hoax, having done time for defrauding the EPA of $200,000 of the taxpayer's money.
