Those jerks at Universal Studios have raised the price of admission as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter prepares to launch next month.
Only for you muggles.
I wasn't planning to see the movie anyway.
I think it's an amusement park thingie. Or were you joking?
It is. But it's also a working studio. If you go in the fall, you can see a lot of shows being filmed.
Last weekend I went to Paramount. Fortunately there's no amusement park around, just a studio tour. I didn't realize how many NY scenes in popular movies were actually shot on that lot.
Even more at Universal Studios. They change the NY set a little bit for each production, but once you've seen it, you'll recognize it in several dozen movies. Same with the town square (Back to the Future), the plane crash/disaster set, and Wysteria Lane.
Another shitty Harry Potter movie that I'll never see, just like the others (except for the first one).
It'll be weird to think of Universal Studios as a competitive amusement park.
You used to be able to convert a day pass into a season pass by bringing a can of coke with you, or buying one from the vending machine at the gate, or telling them that you drank a coke and forgot to bring the can...
Even when you had a season pass you'd only go once every 5-7 years.
I used to go with the kids a lot in the summer when they had the Nickelodeon Fun land. It was pretty awesome. I think they ripped it out for... Harry Potter?
Fuck Harry Potter.
Eh, I probably wouldn't say no.
You're not doing it right.
The 'eh' goes at the BACK OF THE SENTENCE.
That may be the palest human being I've ever seen.
You could think of sex with him via another movie reference, Pale Rider.
I'm assuming you didn't enjoy the 1995 documentary classic Powder
That's makeup, and I think Daniel Craig or whatever is just naturally British. And no, I saw that boring piece of shit because part of it was filmed in my town's library, but it was the most boring movie I ever saw until Unbreakable came out.
That's makeup
Wow...and people say I'm on the spectrum.
"Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you.
Would - after a proper shave.
Islands of adventure and Universal are pretty competitive. Obviously the mouse still rules them. Also they did a really good job with diagon alley here.
You ever been to Discovery Cove? It's on my maybe list.
Most relaxing theme park I have ever been to. They have reservation only, so it's not crowded, plus everything is included. Breakfast, lunch, sunscreen, snorkels, wet suits, lockers. Even bird food for the aviary. You just pay for beer. Also you usually get a free ticket to sea world or Busch gardens.
On second reading, I should say "included ticket" not "free ticket" to sea world/Busch gardens.
Do they have good beer? I wouldn't mine getting drunk in the sun, swimming, and molesting some endangered animals.
I don't remember, but I highly doubt they have sculpin grapefruit IPA or whatever that you like.
I loved Universal Studios in high school. They didn't complain about chicks in bikini tops and tiny shorts like Disney did, and the themes extending to the lines actually made them less boring.
just last year I got a season pass for $60. My family would drive down from the bay area a few times for that park on the way to see family.
Not going to go now with how much it is and how crowded that small park will be
I wasn't planning on visiting a movie-promotion theme park either.
Aren't you one of those movie history jerks?
When John Barrymore died, so did Hollywood.
I tend to watch movies made before I was born, although my last blog post actually on a movie was about Mahogany, which came out when I was three.
Gotta love those outfits. 🙂
And I should also add I'm not particularly into effects movies or the craze for comic book movies and the horrid orange-and-teal color scheme every movie today seems to have. Imagine that outfit from Mahogany in a movie with today's color schemes.
Future incarnations of Ted S. will visit for demonstrations of classic cinematic elements like the pyrotechnics display associated with 1991 Ron Howard classic Backdraft.
Speaking of which, the most outrageous thing to see at CA Universal Studios is a huge re-creation of Waterworld, with a bunch of future pirates zipping around a swimming pool on jet skis as pyrotechnics go off around them. And they found some guy who looks something like Dennis Hopper (pre-death, not currently, although it's a tossup) to play the lead jet skier.
Yes, it's almost as bad as the movie, considered one of the biggest flops of all time. Why they've still tried to perpetuate that disaster is beyond me, and it looks as ridiculously costly and over-the-top as its predecessor.
The original concept itself wasn't even that great an idea. The only redeeming quality of the movie was the bottom bitch from the HBO Mormon Series Big Love was still young then and quite hot.
They can't even fill the seats for that, even with all of the jet skis and KABOOMS.
I try to walk past it, and they practically shove you in the door at showtime.
Blasphemy. Waterworld is the coolest thing at that park, and the movie is great. Was only a flow because of how much money it took to make, not how much money it brought in
Hello.
What about us mudbloods?
*kicks can*
Hey everyone, get a load of the Harry Potter aficionado over here. He knows things about the series. LET'S GET HIM.
EXPECTO PATRONUM
I want tequila?
I expect tequila. Duh.
If you buy a 1 day pass at Universal Studios, the rest of the year is free. Parking is where they get you.
Get you, like what, with a net? Rope? How do they get you?
The valet parking is $35 or I don't know 700 Canadian Pesos.
I thought the Canadian currency was the Samolian.
So valet parking would be 50 Samolians.
Actually, the Canadian currency is the loonie.
Are you all done?
*gives Rufus a hug*
Sorry.
So, if you marked bills in Canada, you could also call it "Spot the Loonie"?
Oops, sorry Rufus, I posted without refreshing, and hadn't realized you had decreed an end to the amusement. It won't happen again.
Canadians just emerging from a long hibernation aren't known for their sense of humour, eh? Give him til June, Anacreon, he'll be in a much better mood after a few maple syrup enemas.
Highway construction season then?
$20 for the Itchy lot and a mile walk.
That's why you take the Red Line to Universal City, you fossil fuel $hill.
I have a radical plan. If the price of admission is not to your liking, don't fucking go!
Also, can anyone recommend a good book for an introduction to logic? Thanks in advanced to my well read friends.
We used Barker's Elements of Logic in College. Don't know if it's still in print, but the material is...timeless.
Thank Tonio.
For what? His good looks?
His bearish charm.
In Florida? See Spot Run!
How very clever.
I recommend Moshe Machover's Set Theory, Logic and their Limitations.
Thank you.
This is all you need to know about logic.
A Texas Aggie is taking a class on logic because he can't find any good books on it either. The first day of class he asks the Prof, " what is logic" ?
The Prof tells him that he will gice him an example of logic and says, " do you own a weed eater" ?
"yes", says the Aggie.
"Then you probably own a lawn mower also don't you "?
Yes said the Aggie.
If you own a lawn mover then you probably own a house. If you own a house then you are probably married. Am I right. " the Prof asked ? "And if you are married then you probably a hetrosexual.
Yes, that amazing. How did you know all that. asked the Aggie ?
I
That's logic, one thing follows another, said the Prof.
Later in the day a fellow Aggie asked the 1st Aggie what he learned in his logic class, "Just what is logic he asked"?
" Well do you own a weed eater" the first Aggie asked ?
No I don't said the 2nd Aggie.
"You're QUEER", said the second.
Are you Queer ? said the 1st Aggie
Queer squirrels prematurely posted.
Everyone's naming logic books, but nobody has mentioned The Trivium yet?
Donald Trump asserts the need for more waterboarding in the wake of the Brussels attacks.
Our candidates must be dispatched to save Europe.
When I saw the Brussels news story breaking this morning, all I could think was, "Oh shit, now Trump's really going to coast to the nomination".
Nothing like fear of foreigners to bring out the Trump brigade.
How many times do we have to tell you it's your own damn fault for getting killed by the police?
So... it's the fault of the person that got run over for "assuming the risk" of crossing the street... with the light.
I mean, I know this is NYC, but still. I'm actually surprised the PD has the balls to make this argument.
I'm actually surprised the PD has the balls to make this argument.
Well, who are people gonna complain to about it? The police?
Yep. And notice that they didn't provide video. It came from a business.
I'm surprised they don't bill his family for damage to the police van.
Balls got nothin to do with it... it's purely contempt. Plain and simple.
If only there were some sort of traffic laws we could turn to for guidance.

Well that's the historical standard standard, right? Elves are just like everyone else, but better. And smugly confident of their moral superiority over everyone else.
Sho does.
*sends FH newsletter and some dick pics*
Seems legit.
The local police department here does crosswalk stings where they ticket you for not yielding to pedestrians. I guess I should avoid breaking the law and just run the person over.
Is "summonsed" a word? That seems wrong.
It's just like "Conversate".
Supposably
The Drug War was a calculated attempt on the part of the Nixon administration to destroy hippies, black people.
I agree with half that agenda.
Agreed. Damn hippies.
y-yeah.... hippies...
The same half as Irish?
That sure didn't start with the Nixon administration. Interesting how multiple generations found the same purposes in the drug war.
Anslinger was more interested in keeping and growing his alcohol prohibition gravy train. (Oops, did I say gravy train? I meant jobs program). But, he used black and brown people as the scapegoat. Nixon used the "scourge of drugs" as the scapegoat to go after black and brown people. It's the circle of live for a government program. Give the government power and someone, somewhere, will find a way to use it as a weapon against those they don't like.
The Drug War was a calculated attempt on the part of the Nixon administration to destroy hippies, black people.
Well, how did it work out?
Not well. Still lots of hippies. Black people unfazed, doing well.
OK, that last sentence was full of derp. Where's my edit button?
I suppose Nixon should have gone with his gut instead of all those calculations.
That's because fazers are not available for law enforcement yet.
IT'S NOT DONE YET GIVE IT A CHANCE
Well, the hippies run the government and, well... I guess it worked regarding the black community...
Repost, since I was late in the other thread:

CNN Video:
What do we need to do to prevent terror attacks:
Clinton: "We hve to toughen our surveillance, our interception of communication. We have to toughen-- as you say-- our soft targets with greater police presence, there's no getting around that."

So, thick blue line?
More like a big blue veiner, right up freedom's pooper.
The Drug War was a calculated attempt on the part of the Nixon administration to destroy hippies, black people.
I'd hate to see what they would have come up without the calculating.
The wage and price freeze.

Oddly enough, Liz deserves the clap.

Tourist resort on the MOON will let brave holidaymakers bask in constant sunshine
You know, maybe tanning beds aren't so bad after all.
Got to keep it in your pants up there, lest you breed a loonie.
No ozone or atmosphere to dilute to sun's radiation. Just what the Dermatologist ordered.
The moon doesn't have constant sunshine.
Sure, the "days" may be 14 Earth days long, and the nights an equal length, but they do get day and night there.
Vacations rarely last over two weeks, and when the sun isn't shining you get to look at the earth or stars.
They may include a pool. Wonder how that would work in 1/6g?
Could you use a more dense liquid? Or at gelatin to the water?
Good question. My physics knowledge is rudimentary at best so I have no idea.
In The Menace from Earth, Robert Heinlein had people using ultralight wings to fly under their own power inside of a giant sealed and pressurized cavern on the moon. That would be fun.
That would be fun. Also, titties would be a lot perkier.
Obama seeks hike in post-presidency payments
It's time to get the money out of politics.
Indeed - more money you give to former politicians, less there is for the current crop!
Ummm, I'm pretty sure they don't let it work that way.
The correct math is more money you give to former politicians, More debt you give to taxpayers!
Wow.
Just doesn't get shame at all, does he?
I assume that is to cover things like security details?
Seems like it would be cheaper to give the president his own arsenal of automatic weapons.
Pension, office staff, mailing privileges, and secret service security.
Forgot link
Too risky. I propose freezing all ex presidents in carbonate. It's the only way to be sure.
Can we store them in the core of the sun?
I insist.
It's to cover a sufficient ride to dull the sting of losing Air Force One.
It better be just for the security deals. Former presidents can make way to much money by giving a few speeches to be owed a single hot dime in pension.
Not counting the $203,700 a year pension former Presidents are paid.
It better be just for the security deals.
It's not. See above. I forgot to mention the travel allowance as well.
Jason Chaffetz has introduced legislation to reduce the pension of former presidents commensurately with the money they earn in excess of 400k/yr.

1. Don't Tweet
It really does eliminate a lot of trouble.
To be fair, that tweet is causing some people to question the wisdom of spending $1M on a consulting group who recommended the changes to the disciplinary policy that seems to be working so well
"To be fair, that tweet is causing some people to question the wisdom of spending $1M on a consulting group who recommended the changes to the disciplinary policy that seems to be working so well"
Well the problem is right there in front of you. How could you miss it? Obviously they didn't spend enough money. /prog

Oh, I see.
There's a word I haven't heard in a while. Narc was actually quite a good 80s video game.
It was also a pretty good gritty movie, starring fat Ray Liota.
I downloaded it for MAME a few years ago.

The Drug War was a calculated attempt on the part of the Nixon administration to destroy hippies, black people.
Duh doy.
Spectator uses the Boaty McBoatface non-story for an insightful editorial:
I bolded that part - in UK parliament, if your representative wants to submit a bill, rather than it coming from the Cabinet, they have to win a lottery. It merely allows them to submit the bill for a consideration - there's no guarantee there will be a vote on it.
That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I'm kind of shocked I didn't know about it until now.
Here's the Wiki entry on the practice. I simplified it (a bit) but it's real and it's present in all the Westminster-style parliaments. Libertarians talk a lot about how The Founders didn't want democracy, but more attention should be payed to their refusal to entertain Westminster model as well.
Other democratic/mob rule/pandering institutions that Westminster systems lack are citizen initiatives, primaries, open party memberships and free votes for representatives (unless the party leadership decides they will be free).
The last person to attempt to freely introduce improvements into Parliament was Guy Fawkes.
+1 (and only) men who entered Parliament with honest intentions.
menman.
Jesus, way to ruin the feeble punchline there. At least I got my patriarchy on.
'primaries' ?
Britain doesn't have a president so that is not required.
And while free speech is very much under attack in Britain at least we don't have a police force that feels free to murder people and dogs. Shooting a person usually causes a fuss, shooting a dog would bring down a world of pain.
So can we attack burglars or not?!!
I can't find the end result, but I'm pretty sure he didn't do it. Not that it would go anywhere in Parliament, because god know using force vs burglars is pinnacle of the kind of barbarism that representative system defends society from.
But from his Wiki entry
That's just adorable.
Oh, and since I'm ruining my own thread with OT stuff, Wiki has link to breakdown of results.
So, the much dreaded mob (modulo people who are BBC listeners, as social media wasn't as big), when given five possible bills by their betters at the BBC, voted as follows:
-allow use of force vs buglars - 37%
-make organ donation after death "opt-out" - 30%
-ban smoking in workplaces (including pubs and such) - 20%
-limit PM to two terms served, make voting mandatory - 9%
-ban Christmas advertising and decoration before Dec 1 - 5%
One of these is actually a law in England now. Try and guess which one.
Opt-out, it's the golden goose for people who want us to pay our fare share.
Holy shit! You are almost right, but technically not
Shit, Spectator, I read you daily, you could have mentioned that. But, I did ask about England.
Answer, of course, is ban on smoking. Which only UKIP opposes. Which had 20% of BBC Radio audience in favor.
We fought the Revolutionary War so we could attack burglars regardless of what the UK parliament says.
Seriously, that sounds rather dumb. It just adds another layer of horse trading within ones own party and party officials on representatives backs. I can see why the elites love it.
The Drug War was a calculated attempt on the part of the Nixon administration to destroy hippies, black people.
Some dude supposedly got Ehrlichman to admit this to him face to face more than 20 years ago, and is just deciding to reveal this little nugget to the world now?
We've talked about the anti-war movement and Nixon's drug war since, like, the first day of the first post on this site back in 2003.
That's when HyR first went on line? I've been posting here since 2003. Wow.
Supreme Court = US Taxpayers Should Pay Puerto Rico's Electricity Bills
Seems like they've got a case. Though, I'm not certain why in cases such as this the city can't just disband. There doesn't seem to be a good reason new smaller cities could take place of the old big city that failed.
Git yer bonds while they're hot
Every high-yield bond fund has like 5-10% PR paper. I have no doubt there's a lot of pressure for bailouts from many quarters.
I admit, I am amazed to hear that.
Admittedly = it was a thing 5 years ago, and mainly munis, and i think many pared their holdings after that. It was a red-flag thing that a lot of investors were trying to avoid.
Some fund cos were definitely more into the idea than others =
one in three people, according to the report from GOBankingRates, haven't saved a dime for retirement and that's looking at across the age spectrum.
So, little kids aren't saving for retirement?
hey, i've saved a dime.
When your nation's youth are willing to take out a six figure loan for a photography and printmaking degree with a sub in French Literature, the financial acumen simply isn't there.
I don't see why taking advantage of nearly-free money to have fun during your peak attractiveness years means you like financial acumen.
Lack, not like.
The money isn't 'nearly free' yet. By 'nearly free', did you mean perhaps, "easy to come by"?
No, I meant nearly free. The interest on my student loans is like 2%.
Even at 0%, paying back $50,000+ takes a long, long time, let alone anything in the six figure area. Especially when you're landing in the job market at entry level wages an with degrees that may not come with great earning potential.
From the standpoint of the lender, the money may be 'nearly free' but from the standpoint of the borrower, the money was spent and now must be earned and paid back. In that order.
I once took out a car loan at 0%, and at nearly $400 a month, it took me five years to pay it off. The point being that it takes financial acumen to realize that if someone lends you a million bucks and you spend it on a shiny bauble (bad analogy, because one presumes you could sell the bauble at some percentage loss) that there's someone on the other end waiting for their million bucks back.
I know how loans work, Paul, and super-low-interest loans are commonly considered nearly-free money.
And I still don't think it's a bad decision at all. Seriously...how could it be? You can get tens of thousands of dollars to spend on fun stuff when you're young, healthy, and hot?i.e., when it's worth almost infinitely more than it would be if you had earned it all first.
It's not worth more when you're young , healthy, and hot.
It's worth more when you're earned it and aware of it's value because you have learned the value of money and just how hard it is to accumulate $100K. Hell, it's worth more when you're older even if you didn't earn it because by then you should have learned the value of money more so than most average college students.
When one is young, hot and healthy, one shouldn't need $100,000 to get laid.
What was your degree in? Also how 'hot' are you, asking for a friend?
Makes sense. I know some people that can barely pull their life together enough to go to work every day. I would be hat eatingly shocked to find out they put away anything for retirement.
I'm in a mandatory retirement program where I'll get back $.10 for every dollar I put in.
But enough about your stock portfolio. What about Social Security?
I got a real nice bonus this year. Of course the actual payout became half my bonus. I still planned to buy a new rifle and save the rest. The next day my account calls - I owe $2,000 more in taxes than my bonus payout. So much for saving.

I wonder if this had to do with his refusal to step down. If he knew he was going to die soon, there was no reason to bend to party pressure about his future.
""You want to know what this was really all about?" he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left to protect. "The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.""
This is completely unsurprising given what I know about Nixon. His thoughts on Jews were not pleasant either.
"The latest tapes of President Richard M. Nixon's private conversations reveal a number of anti-Semitic remarks made by the president. This is not particularly surprising, since previously released tapes also contained hostile comments about Jews by Nixon. But one remark in the latest tapes stands out. Discussing potential judicial nominees with an aide, Nixon said, "No Jews. Is that clear? We've got enough Jews. Now if you find some Jew that I think is great, put him on there."?"
Nixon was pretty much the worst person ever and nothing bad that I learn about him surprises me, is what I'm saying.
I will say that it's laughable that HuffPo is criticizing Nixon's War on Drugs when they support gun grabbing. If going after drugs could let you 'arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings and vilify them night after night on the evening news,' then clearly a war on guns would allow the government to do the exact same thing.
You'd think at some point leftists would manage to make that connection.
Absolutely not! Anyone who has taken a/any drug knows how fun they can be. But, just look at a gun! Scary, death-dealing machines (don't even think about touching it!) It's so obvious that guns have no place in an enlightened democracy!
What if I like doing drugs and shooting guns?
By which I mean drink a Jolt cola and fire my Taser. I'm an upstanding citizen you see.

Arab EU Migrants = Setting Themselves on Fire
Not the best look
I find that fascinating, actually. When Buddhist monks were doing that during the Vietnam War, they were drawing up a long history of self-immolation as both a demonstration of protest and sacred display of meditative power (i.e., they trained their minds so perfectly as to not even flinch when engulfed in flame). Whereas, for Muslims, cremation is a big sin. If a Muslim self-immolates, he or she is unquestionably condemned to Hell (Jahannam, aka Gehenna).
I'm guessing by the way they were dressed and the methods employed that this was all for the camera.
I hear they're not supposed to smoke cigarettes either but its still pretty popular.
From the caption on the picture, it doesn't look like the guy actually planned on burning to death. It looks like a photo op opportunity, and the folks around him were trying to put the fire out.
It's cultural appropriation from Buddhists and Hindu widows, and I won't stand for it.
Here is the money quote from the Nixon article. This is what Erlichman allegedly told the reporter in 1994
ou want to know what this was really all about?" he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left to protect. Of course we did."
The problem with this is that drugs were already illegal and the subject of significant jail terms. It is not like the country loved drugs and pot before Nixon showed them otherwise. So, Nixon had the power to do all of those things without the war on drugs.
There is no proof Erlichman ever said this. I think the reporter is lying or Erlichman was trolling him.
Given the shit we know Nixon said about blacks from the White House tapes, it wouldn't surprise me. He did explicitly say, for example, that he didn't want Jews to be nominated for various positions. If you're willing to discriminate like that against Jews, why wouldn't you be willing to put laws in place to hurt black people?
The real issue is that this doesn't actually make the War on Drugs any more evil. The War on Drugs is pure, violent tyranny no matter what the justification, and most of the people who have been carrying out the WoD didn't do so for racist reasons. A lot of black leaders supported it back in the '80s, so much of the early support existed for non-racist reasons, no matter what Nixon's personal reasons were.
The fact that Nixon was a bigot doesn't change that most DEA agents aren't and they're more than willing to abuse the shit out of people based on some other justification.
The war on drugs started long before Nixon invented the term.
Sure, but Nixon strongly increased penalties with the Drug Enforcement Act and they expanded enforcement.
I don't thing the reason they did that was because they wanted to harass hippies. They could already do that under current law. And Nixon's drug war is shockingly tame compared to the one we have today.
Re: John,
You mean as a matter of federal policy? Are you sure about that?
It is certainly possible. There's no denying the terrible effects the war had and still has on inner-city blacks.
You mean as a matter of federal policy? Are you sure about that?
Yes
Over the next several decades, Congress continued to pass drug control legislation and further
criminalized drug abuse. For example, the Boggs Act (P.L. 82-255), passed in 1951, established
mandatory prison sentences for some drug offenses while the 1956 Narcotic Control Act (P.L. 84-
728) further increased penalties for drug offenses and established the death penalty as punishment
for selling heroin to youth.
While there was a great deal of attention paid to the medical approach to preventing and
responding to drug abuse in the 1960s, there was also strong emphasis on law enforcement. The
1963 Presidential Commission, among other findings, had recommended increasing federal drug
enforcement personnel and transferring drug enforcement functions from the Treasury to the
Department of Justice (DOJ).33 Subsequently, Congress shifted the constitutional basis for drug
control from its taxing authority to its power to regulate interstate commerce,34 and in 1968 the
FBN merged with the Bureau of Drug Abuse Control and was transferred to DOJ.35

First of all, he's a fucking idiot for discussing his work negatively on social media. That aside, he's doing more than just complaining about unruly students; he's pointing out that his school's system for disciplining students is completely dysfunctional. How is he supposed to manage a classroom if he doesn't have the power to remove disrupting students? It is the job of the administration to back-up the classroom teachers and to handle disruptions to the learning environment. Now if it is true that he wrote that certain disruptive students were drug dealers or gang members, if it can be proven that they have a record of drug offense or gang affiliation, then he's merely stating a fact.

Can we just create a padded room and let teachers send kids there for the rest of the class. A teacher can't teach a kid discipline they aren't taught at home (though they can teach them that class is where normal rules don't apply), but that is no reason to make the other students in the class suffer through the trouble makers antics.
But Tulpy-Poo, we have to suffer through your inane commenting. Can we send *you* to a rubber room? It's really the correct place for someone as retarded and mentally ill as you.
I'm gonna need to know Illocust's opinions on Kosher for Passover Coke before I make any decisions on this.
The one's with real sugar? They are okay, but I'm a Dr. Pepper fan. Grew up near Dublin, Texas, where they still used the original recipe with real sugar. It was greatness. Unfortunately they are no longer in business as the parent company sued them.
He is retarded and he's mentally ill, but he's great at getting commenters to respond to his characters. Which is curious, since they're not that well constructed. This dead-pussy one is a slight improvement over the autistic law student, but that's setting the bar awfully low.
There's no need to medicalize Tulpa's need for attention.
As an outsider to this site, it isn't my place really to comment but I'll barge along anyway
Why is there a constant back and forth as to who is or is not a "sockpuppet"?
Someone new happens to decide to leave a comment and suddenly they are accused of being some other disfavored commenter.
It's connected to the reason we now have a 1500 byte per comment limit. I don't feel like telling the whole history behind it now, but perhaps someone else will feel up to it.
It's not new people being accused as far as I can tell. I've been around for quite a while, and before me, OldManWithCandy was accusing someone named Bo of being Tulpa. As for why? I don't have the slightest clue. You should be safe, though. I'm not going anywhere, and I doubt OMWC will accuse anyone else as long as I'm posting.
Jesus, Tulpa, you're not even trying now. Maybe we should start a pool for the next gimmick- dead pussy was OK, but you can do better.
Agreed, what a pathetic attempt, Tulpa.
If you were anyone else you wouldn't have referred to one of your other socks as 'someone named Bo'. The Bo character used to stink up many threads with dozens of posts, and no one who's 'been around for quite a while' would refer to him as if he was one of those handles that sound vaguely familiar. Everyone who's been here for awhile knows who the Bo character was, and they wouldn't confuse it with anyone else.
By the way, what does 'whoring trains' mean? I feel old.
A new method for inducing people to use public transit? If so, it's certainly working for me. California should try it for high-speed rail.
If only the local transit folks would put free hookers on our light rail lines! Maybe then they could get ridership levels up to a somewhat respectable level.
And the slow speed would become a feature, not a bug!
St. Paul has been having a real bad year discipline-wise. In that same school a teacher got seriously beat up by a couple of students who were fighting, but decided to come together in a moment of solidarity in order to take on the teacher.
It has gotten so bad that the teachers union is actually acting like a real union and bucking the establishment types in order to get some better working conditions.
There was another incident earlier where a student attacked a teacher in a different school and the teacher suffered brain damage. He's now suing the school district.

Because the clip of the black guy beating the shit out of the white kid in the KKK outfit? Wasn't ideal for their purposes.
I thought the intention of the Drug War was to keep Mexicans high on marijuana from raping white girls. I guess the goals were expanded.
Not Mexicans.
Help. I'm trying to understand the right-wing and its political reaction to Obama. On the one hand, Obama is a Kenyan-influenced surrender monkey who spent, gasp, only 53 seconds talking about a terrorist attack in not-his-own country. On the other hand, he's a bloody tyrant who dispatches drones to kill Innocent members of al-Qaeda and, infamously, killed American citizen anwar al alwaki, who was a preacher of peace. Is this part of the probably-a-White-guy-would-do-things-better school of thought? Let me know. I want to learn.
Help. I'm trying to understand the right-wing and its political reaction to Obama.
I'd suggest starting small with trying to understand the alphabet or primary colors before working up to anything complicated.
Our trolls really suck. This is just embarrassing.
Is traveling to Cuba in an effort to normalize relations with a 50 year old adversary because of obama's na?vet? or because he's a secret commie?
That's a false dichotomy. Both.
You mean where he was asked to provide a list of prisoners to be released, and then didn't? Wow, that's quite a foreign policy home run.
So, what you are saying is that the key to modern diplomacy is to just demand everything you want, apply a strict litmus test to other societies and countries using your geopolitical frameworks as goal posts, and walk away if your adversary doesn't meet you at every point? You sir, have a place waiting for you in the Trump Department of State and Really Awesome Hotels.
Secret?
It's easy. Take two 4-sided dice and roll. Add the day of the month to the roll and then subtract the day of the week (With Sunday starting with 1) and you have your Obamascore.
For example: Roll a 3 and one. Today is Tuesday the 22nd so that's 4+22 = 26 and then 26 - 3 = 23 and Obama is....an ex-Nazi gay prostitute. Re-roll as needed.
Fascinating. Usually an echo chamber requires more than two people, but I guess if you're smug and oblivious enough, you can do it.
+20 sided dice
Is there, is there ever any "right wing" hesitance to use drones on al-Qaeda or to generally be aggressive on the use of force against terrorists? In fact all right-wingers would berate the President for not using enough force or to use your own language, not bombastic enough on international affairs.
This is course one of the many sources of contention that libertarians have with right wingers.
Well at least on some primal level that even you realize that you are an egregious dumbfuck.
I wonder if american socialist can read the responses it gets. Maybe amsoc is trapped in this vacuum of loneliness, confident that its incessant commentating is achieving something...
Maybe I'm just a dreamer.
You know you are a dreamer.
Well can you put your hands in your head, oh no!
I want to learn.
No you don't. You want to erect straw men and burn them down so you can continue being smug and obnoxious.

The front story was posted here a while back to much ridicule (deservedly) However local chatter still has lots of "but we have to something!" I actually called a radio show with a version of "Why the Fuck is city counsel even entertaining this silliness when their snow removal plan amounts to "wait for April"..... they hung up on me...
"Complaining about unruly students is racism: teacher suspended for political incorrectness."
Quote:
"According to the website, Olson wrote on Facebook, "Anyone care to explain to me the school-to-prison pipeline my colleagues and I have somehow created, or perpetuated, or not done enough to interrupt? Because if you can't prove it, the campaigns you've waged to deconstruct adult authority in my building by enabling student misconduct, you seriously owe us real teachers an apology. Actually, an apology won't cut it."
"Phones and iPad devices, used for social media and gaming," wrote Olson. "There have always been rules for 'devices,' and defined levels of misconduct. Since we now have no backup, no functional location to send kids who won't quit gaming, setting up fights, selling drugs, whoring trains, or cyber bullying, we're screwed, just designing our own classroom rules.""
My God. So much racism!
Ugh, racist.
What, like " ' ' " these?
I need some help. How should I respond?
With laughter.

Has anyone seen the car ad where the car breaks automtically to prevent you from ramming head-on into something? I think that's a bad idea. What if ramming head-on into something is the better option than a forced auto-stop that places you in a position where you're going to get broadsided by a tractor-trailer?
I'd be more worried about the fact that if the car in front of me moves, I'm still stuck there with a broken car. Maybe those smart guy engineers should just make a system that uses your brakes to stop you instead of breaking your car.
Has anyone seen the car ad where the car breaks automtically...
I mean, I've driven Dodges before (rental cars), but I didn't think their ads would be that honest.
Which company's ad? BMW's do this, but it can be turned off. I don't know about the makers of lesser cars.
Alternately, court orders child services to return little girl to her relatives rather than letting one of their employees take her.
Return =/= give to people neither she nor her birth parents ever lived with, associated with or met. Foster family =/= child services employees. Take =/= continue to live with the family who has taken care of her for 2/3 of her life and is trying to adopt her. You managed to get every single word wrong.
They are, however, the people the birth father has decided she should live with.
They're paid by the state to provide a service. That seems like an employee to me.
Only because they spent the last three years fighting this out in court.
I'm frankly shocked by so many people suggesting the state has the right to take your kid, and then if they drag their feet long enough before returning them can justify never returning them because they're now too attached to their paid caretakers.
They're not returning her, you fucking idiot. They're giving her to a third party.
The third party her actual favor wants her to live with. If I decide to send my daughter to live with my cousin, it's not your place to go "WHO! You don't spend enough time with that cousin! I'm taking your kid!"
The Pages, for some reason, think they're entitled to judge how well other people parent their kids and kidnap kids who parents haven't gotten the Page Seal of Approval.
It should be noted this is the second incidence now of the Page family fostering a kid they were told up front was not available for adoption because the intent was to reunify them with their original family as soon as possible and then the Page's holding up the reunification for years in court proceedings trying to keep the child for themselves.

I briefly looked into getting a motorcycle w/ a sidecar about 10 yrs ago. The theory was that it might be a decent urban-transport option.
My buddy who was a lifelong rider was like, "no fucking way". he thought they were stupid dangerous and destroyed mobility, which is the only thing that can save you in a city full of sleep-deprived cabbies talking to their cousins in pakistan.
Since when did HyR become a place for helpfulness. No wonder there is no Libertarian Moment.
I didn't mean to be so snarky, EOP. I just giggled because that was almost John-like and thought I'd pile on.
If you want to complain about new fangled car features how about this: When I was a kid we owned an old panel van that we would take duck hunting. Our best plan for jump shooting ducks was to leave the side door rolled back and then slow way down so a couple shooters could jump* out. The ducks would get nervous when the van slowed down, but as soon as it sped up they were OK. Try driving your mini-van today with one of those doors rolled back. Even if all the alarms and bells didn't scare off the ducks, the driver would be deaf.
* We all had doubles or over/unders and when we jumped out we were sure to have them broke open (because we were always about safety).
Your buddy is right, they were fine back in the day, when traffic was much lighter than today. They disappeared for a reason.
