Remember when The Onion was purchased by a major Hillary Clinton backer? Well...
The worst part? It's not even funny.
Hello.
"Remember when The Onion was purchased by a major Hillary Clinton backer? Well..."
I don't get it. Because if that's not supposed to be satire and is meant to be serious, it's game over for TO.
It was only a matter of time. Someone else will have to pick up the torch.
Progressive take over every institution they infiltrate.
And the Onion still can be funny. Just yesterday they had an article about Obama choosing a transgendered gay abortion doctor to fill Scalia's seat on the Court. That is pretty funny.
But my God, the linked article is pathetic.
It's funny for liberal Hillary supporters. Hahaha, your position is so stupid it's a joke kind of humor.
I had to read it twice before i could detect what they intended to be "the joke"
It still hurts
It's barely more polished than some snarky facebook post by a millennial progressive.
"urging the woman?who overcame entrenched societal biases to build a successful legal career"
It's remarkable that there was a woman lawyer in the 70s?
"became the first female senator elected in the state of New York"
Says more about NY, doesn't it?
"oversaw the Department of State during a period of widespread international tumult"
That's a good thing? Perhaps she... contributed to it?
a successful legal career
Wasn't she fired from her first job in Congress for being unethical?
How successful was she, really, at her Arkansas law firm? Being employed, or even a partner, does not automatically equate to "successful career".
Hey, she got that rapist off, didn't she?
What therapist?
The Rapist. The Definite Article, you could say.
You may be "a" rapist, but only he is The Rapist.
If so I'd bet that might have been about the last time she got anybody off.
I would bet that Bill was generally thinking of some other trailer-tramp when they were still regular.
""oversaw the Department of State during a period of widespread international tumult""
LOL, "top diplomat oversaw period of extreme turmoil and increasing violence" is not a qualification.
Noooooo. Only yokels bitching about the "lamestream" media think that controlling media might have some influence on the national discussion.
Remember when The Onion was purchased by a major Hillary Clinton backer? Well...
Is the 'well...' supposed to indicate that they're taking the Mickey out of her? Because the article is pro-Hillary. All the way.
Yeah, I think the "Well" means we're seeing the fruition of a pro-Hillary backer buying the Onion.
Exactly. I just don't know what Robby meant by it. Maybe Robby meant it as a counter to the narrative, maybe he meant it as confirming it.
Until Robby's Hair weighs in, it remains an open question.
BTW, duh, it's in the title of the post. I focused only on the blurb in the links.
"The Onion Goes Pro-Hillary[...]"
My bad.
Given that they've run articles about Hillary supporters leaving each other to die, and burning down towns in Iowa to stop the advance of the Sanders campaign, AFTER said purchase, I think the argument that they're in the tank for Hillary is kind of comical.
It seems like a fairly obvious jab at the irony of the first credible female presidential candidate not being inspirational enough.
It is a form of situational irony - basically, for years, everyone expected that it would be HUGELY INSPIRATIONAL for blacks and women to become president.
Now? It's old hat. It isn't anything remarkable.
Of course, it makes perfect sense - by the time the US was willing to elect black people or women to the highest offices, it was, by definition, past the point at which we'd be willing to do so. We consider it to be unremarkable because it IS unremarkable.
People historically thought it would be hugely inspirational, but it ended up being quite mundane.
Madeline Albright's recent article was a great example of this; she was super proud of being the first female secretary of state. To her granddaughter, more women than men had been Secretary of State during her lifetime. "What's the big deal about Grandma Maddie being secretary of state?" she asked when Hillary Clinton succeeded Condaleeza Rice as Secretary of State. "I thought they were always girls."
That's one of my biggest charges against the choice of Obama as our first black POTUS. Holy fcuk, out of all the really capable, inspiring, successful black men out there (and I know of a number of them IRL) why did they have to prop up that useless child? I would have much rather had somebody who did the job so well that no party would want to run anybody who wasn't at least similar in a lot of ways.
I can't believe that's up, but they took down "Bear Attacks, Rapes Zookeeper" story.
In retrospect, bear story was the exact opposite of this story, taking cliches of shitty media reporting and satirizing them mercilessly. Sad, really.
This is them satirizing the media narrative that Clinton isn't inspirational enough, by highlighting ways in which her life story is inspirational, and more or less pointing out the irony of the situation.
I thought it was amusing. It wasn't their best article ever, but I get why they wrote it, and it did make me smile just a little.
They ran an article about Hillary's campaign burning down towns in Iowa to stop the advance of the Sanders campaign two weeks ago, and ran an article about Hillary's campaign leaving volunteers to die on Friday.
I don't think you need to panic.

That is like two month old news.

Yes, how incompetent are his staff that no one thought to buy that domain name?
"Bush" doesn't explain that for you? Where you been?
What's a "BAFTA"?
It's like an Oscar, but British.
Bovvah.
Borth American Free Trade Agreement
And I was planning on posting this in the lynx.
But seriously, it looks like they sent in a damn SWAT team. Which shouldn't be surprising to anyone here. But still.
I thought we didn't have debtors prison, so what exactly is the SWAT team supposed to do?
Cleave skulls in twain with a cane knife...
Is cane knife guero speak for a good ol' fashioned machete?
The Cane machete, whose name is more descriptive of the use than the machete itself, is designed for hacking sugar cane and corn stalks. Often the blade is hooked to allow the user to pull the chopped cane from the plants while it is still standing.
I think it's just a particular style of machete.
It's kindly a wood handle, kind of like an axe handle. With a long blade on it shaped kinda like a bananer. Mhm. Sharp on one edge, and dull on the other. Mhm. It's what the highway boys use to cut down weeds and whatnot.
Google shows tons of pictures and Amazon links.
That's like a short cane sword, right?
Take the diploma off the wall?
Because when you give a two-year-old a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Obviously everyone should vote for me for Alumnus of the Year. I clearly deserve it more than the guy who literally went to jail because he created something the state couldn't control.
But I'm not here to lobby. I'll leave that to the Robby's Hair user.
I like how you think you have any influence over me. We both know it is the other way around.
the guy who literally went to jail because he created something the state couldn't control
Not getting the reference. Help?
Thanks.
Also, thanks to CL and kinnath.
Ross Ulbricht is one of the nominees. He received a life sentence for running Silk Road and pissing of the Feds.
And his draconian sentence inspired the now-legendary woodchipper incident, as well.
Ross Ulbricht -- Dread Pirate Roberts -- Silk Road
The Innocence of Muslims guy?
I was going to vote for you Rico, but your lack of alt-text has disappointed me. Unfortunately, despite your curiously coiffed mane, I can no longer support you.
Curiously, eh?
I lol'd.
Bracelet may change how we get caffeinated
Well, it *might*; but I doubt it will.
Considering how much I need my caffeine but the relatively low doses I require to be happy this seems much preferable to make 20 oz Dr. Pepper every morning.
Preferable to popping a No-Doz?
How much caffeine in one of those? I really don't need much to be a happy camper.
Well, then just lick one.
Considering how much I need my caffeine but the relatively low extremely large doses I require to be happy
If this isn't an IV, they should just fuck off.
This isn't nearly as inspired as caffeinated soap which has been around for years.
In middle school I bought some lotion to whack off with. I got the cheaper Jergens "skin tightening" formula. When I used it I started noticing my dick would get red, dry and tingly, so I read the bottle and it was full of caffeine. Fun times.
This is why I am pro-friction.
Did you get that idea from jackinworld.com (NSFW)?
Aww, the website that time forgot.
It's amazing how little it has changed over the years.
They seem to have moved their jelqing article into the myths section since the late '90s.

Bataclan Band Singer: Everybody Has To Have Guns
"But if everyone had guns, there would be a bloodbath... oh"
This.
"Innocent people could get shot? oh"
That's not going to go over well in proggie circles.
Well, it didn't take long to discover that Charlie Hebdo was punching down. Naturally, sooner or later a victim of the next terrorist attack in Paris had to lose sympathy as well.
I especially appreciate all the "hurr durr stupid Americans with their guns, running around like the wild west". God damn but Europeans are fucking retarded.
Meh. Almost every European that I've met over here wanted to go try out the shooting range.
I've only seen a couple articles about this - but nothing to dispute it yet :
"Armed Drug Traffickers May Have Returned Fire in Paris Terrorist Attacks"
http://www.thetruthaboutguns.c.....t-attacks/
Whatever happened to the story of the Paris sidewalk cafe that night, where another group of terrorists tried to shoot it up, only dining at the cafe were some heavily armed drug dealers? Who then promptly shot the living shit out of said terrorist group?
Seems to prove Hughes's point, if so. And on that note, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo just announced today that they were banning both open and concealed carry of firearms on their grounds.
Fuck, and I even looked to see if anyone else had mentioned that story.
My scroll-fu needs work.
Anyway, so what ended up happening with that story?
Fuck, and I even looked to see if anyone else had mentioned that story.
My scroll-fu needs work.
Anyway, so what ended up happening with that story?
All good.
One thing I see as weighing against this story being npthing but tin-foil-hat is the one point I wondered about it before I even read about the supposedly armed cartel dudes - why was there such a low body count at this one location? There were only a small number of customers wounded/killed in a place that was supposedly full and should have been easy pickings for a couple well armed terrorists.
Robby links and we're still not discussing the melissa click v police officer videos? Did you cut your hair?
Robby doesn't cut his hair. Robby's hair cuts HIM.
This guy gets it.
Given that, why didn't Robby decline his award nomination in favor of his hair?
He's holding out for his NAHA

First line and already shit editing. Are people really too afraid to take away this idiot's commas?
No, it's editors afraid to insert a hyphen.

*should have failed; college?
easy mistake
Comma, comma, down, do be, do, down, down
The next sentence is barely an improvement:
"The openly gay, bleach-blond British provocateur is traveling the States on his "Dangerous Faggot" tour, and was invited by the Rutgers chapter of the right-wing Young Americans for Liberty (Y.A.L.)."
He deserves to be censored for the excessive use of an article.
Plus very punchable face.
Well, since there aren't actually any errors in that sentence, it seems significantly less bad.
So you're saying he actually is a dangerous faggot?
There were no errors in the first sentence. All commas in that sentence were necessary. In the second sentence this comma (tour, and) is unnecessary and should not be there.
As was mentioned about Melissa Click: Her face was especially designed for a fist.
/Not advocating a beating for either. Jes' sayin'...
You're punchable for that.
COME AT ME, BRO!!!
/Totally non-sexual.
/Really.

Rutgers, the U.S.'s most diverse university
I am just dying to know:
- what the metric is for this exactly?
- is there consensus among universities that Rutgers has the most coveted crown in humanities-academe?
How is Rutgers the U.S.'s most diverse university? Did they admit 2 of every race - kind of a Noah's Ark of higher education?

Seems like someone created a new bullshit-index and decided that certain proportions of ethnicities represented "diversity", rather than any intellectual or economic factors. I think the Native Americans should be fucking pissed. WHERE ARE COUNTRY GONE?

Holy IOU Bat-Man! That's not good.
Anti-smoking ad in Moscow
Translation (apparently... I don't speak Russian):
"Smoking kills more people than Obama, though he kills a lot of people. DON'T SMOKE. DON'T BE LIKE OBAMA"
I also have no idea how legit this is.
My Russian is rusty, but yeah, pretty much. That is awesome.
This is like an old Soviet joke:
Long ago I read a story about Soviet Union diplomats complaining about all the restrictions on smoking in the Land of the Free.
If real, that is AWESOME
Not really. This is just an example of anti-Americanism in Russia. Nothing more.
but still awesome
That is exactly what it says.
The censorship article is on dailytargum.com, which I read as dailytantrum.com
With reading the article, I'm going to guess it works.

Chuck Schumer is the most shameless ass clown in public life today.
I was discussing this Schumer quote with someone yesterday, trying to draw the parallel between Schumer and McConnell. She said the two were entirely different because 1) Schumer was speaking hypothetically, as there was no vacancy at the time and 2) McConnell is Senate Majority leader, whereas Schumer was 'only' Senate Majority Whip.
Just wanted to share.
Then she's a weasel, too.
It was like playing chess with a pigeon. I could get checkmate, but she was still going to shit all over the board and strut around like she won, so I walked away.
"Chess with a pigeon" -- That's good.
Its an appropriate analogy here. Are you in PA? I think I picked that up somewhere along the way lurking in the comments.
If Ruth Bader Ginsburg had dropped over dead in February of 2008, the Democrats would have totally let Bush appoint her replacement.
And per the Washington Post, since picking a minority and/or a woman would make it difficult for the other party to resist, the Dems would've been totally fine with a selection of, say, Janice Rogers Brown, right?
Or Miguel Estrada.
Not really Hispanic
That was awful. He had to pack his bags and go home. That alone is justification for stonewalling on the nominee for a year.
Not really a black woman.
Ever notice we always have to guess what progs actually think? They never seem to mean what they say because it's 'hypothetical' or 'wasn't the point'. We're too stupid to see their big abstract picture. Always dancing. Ever the sophists. Run and run in circles they go.
But the Republicans want to completely eliminate the Constitution and are all legitimately Satan's minions hell bent on murdering everyone on the planet who's not rich, white, and male on the whole planet! Or so the argument's going.
The link is redundant.
Perhaps you have not heard of Michael Moore?
Can he still fairly be called a "public figure"?
Yes, since his figure approximates a crowd.
" "The only time I thought I'd see Robby Soave listed next to Ross Ulbricht would be on an FBI Most Wanted poster.""
Oh, Robby. Like you'd ever do anything cool enough to end up on an FBI poster.
From my own backyard: Muslims and business clash
Bonus: The employees are Somalis, so roadz might be involved.
Earlier this month, the manufacturer of snowblowers and lawn mowers fired seven Muslims for taking unscheduled prayer time, while 14 other employees resigned over the issue.
Even bigger bonus, it's about religious accommodation.
I just had a look at Ron Bailey's excellent column on Trump's science illiteracy. Holy shit ANY of those rambling, incoherent, and reality-divorced statements on vaccination or AGW or the other fails would sink him in a general. He doesn't have a flea's chance of being president and all the yokel delusion in the world won't change that.
Now you've invoked the wrath of SIV.
Oh know! He'll inundate us with lies and comments that barely rise above grunting noises!
And ambiguous modifiers.
I don't know about that, dude, there is a lot of yokel delusion out there.
It doesn't change reality, it just makes their inevitable tears more plentiful and yummier.
yokel delusion
Nice band name.
So you are now Pro global warming and think anyone who questions it is anti-science? That doesn't surprise me.
Perfect. It's the exact kind of retarded knee-jerk bullshit that you and your fellow trogs can be relied upon for.
I know you are stupid Cytoxic, but you somehow manage to amaze even me. Bailey dinged Trump for refusing to accept AGW. That is preposterous. It doesn't matter what you think of Trump. There is nothing anti-science about seeing through the AGW bullshit.
I need to stop picking on Frank so much. He is not the dumbest person on here. You are and by a mile. You really do have animal like intelligence. You see Trump and Bailey and are incapable of parsing the argument or thinking that just because you don't like Trump doesn't mean all of Bailey's points are valid.
You are so stupid that I honestly feel kind of sorry for you. If it wasn't for you thinking rapes and murders in Europe are nothing if they are done by refugees, I really would.
Bailey dinged Trump for refusing to accept AGW. That is preposterous. a lie. -FTFY
Trump's assertion that the Chinese 'made it up' is bonkers to the same degree as 9/11 Trooferism. BTW the evidence is pretty clear that there has been warming due to man's influence. Get over it.
The rest of your post is the expected ravings of a mentally ill version of Otto from A Fish Called Wanda.
Look, it's obvious that we should treat unhinged rantings about Chinese conspiracies as just Trump's personal way of saying he doesn't favor cap-and-trade, and nothing more.
Read the comments you half wit. Bailey comments and says the root of his objection is Trump's refusal to admit the scientific consensus.
You can read the words at least. I would think you would at some point get tired of not understanding them.
Comments =/= Trump's insane quote
"BTW the evidence is pretty clear that there has been warming due to man's influence"
No. At most co2 can explain only a very small fraction of the post-1950 warming, and, of course, none of the 1650-1950 warming. ALL 103 'models' are more than 2 sigma too high in their T predictions from 1979-2015.
AGW is on a par with the autism-vaccine nonsense.
This, right here, is what libertarians can't be associated with. This discredits us.
No, AGW =/= autism-vaccine nonsense. No, it's actually pretty clear that man is responsible for most of the 20th ce's warming.
"No, it's actually pretty clear that man is responsible for most of the 20th ce's warming."
OK, I have been trying to skip much of the silly tripe you post here. And so I was never sure if everybody else's calling you an idiot had much merit. But you have just established yourself as a complete idiot with the above line.
Yeah I know right? I just can't help forming opinions that are supported by evidence!
The problem with this evidence is that there are so many other things going on that they either overlook or ignore completely - like solar activity - which would more than explain any of the phenomena which they purport to be studying in detail fine enough to show the tiny changes involved.
The system they are talking about is so overly complex - much, much more complex than the level at which they are studying it that their conclusions cannot be supported with the "evidence" they present.
In addition, in any real scientific research the discussion is marked by the lines of counter-evidence which are welcomed and discussed. In the AGW discussion all dissent is squelched - not disputed. Total BS.
If the above is not true please explain why the Australian government has started to distance themselves from the entire movement?
"If the above is not true please explain why the Australian government has started to distance themselves from the entire movement?"
I am not a psychic I don't know. I do know that the really AGW-skeptic guy got thrown out and a 'moderate' squish is now in power.
I don't dispute that there is a whole lot of chicanery going on but the evidence is still pretty clear that there is warming. Yes the system is complex but so is a cell and I can draw conclusions from observations of a cell. Bailey has addressed this previously.
The question isn't 'are humans causing some warming?'(because it's clear they are/have) but 'will it be catastrophic?'. As yet, I have little or no reason to believe it will be.
The earth has been warming for 11,000 years and it's up to us to stop it in the next hundred or so?
Never said that.
I'm pro-global warming.
I say let the world get warmer! We'll grow oranges in Alaska!
You jest, maybe, but that's right. The American mid west could free the entire world. Imagine if Siberia was like that. Imagine the natural resources in the artic that can be accessed. Imagine less people dying from cold.

The idea that Sunni-states are going to unify to fight ISIS is a complete myth
If the Turks DO make any military incursion, it will be to attack Kurds, then seal off the border
I never said it would be done to fight ISIS. I always thought that would just be a justifiation to go after Assad and the Kurds, the latter of whom the Turks have been shelling for days now. Russia is cornering them, and with Saudi help they may do something drastic.
""'with Saudi help""
Yeah, you still haven't read the link pointing out how that's a complete myth
The link does no such thing.
Rutgers? You mean the same place that continues to employ Brittany Cooper? Author of such insights as:

What's Rutgers?
Rutgers was my fallback school for law school. After visiting there I realized that had I not gotten into my top choices, I probably would've skipped out on law school altogether.
What, the allure of Camden wasn't good enough for you?
Rutgers has a law school? I can't imagine what you need to know to practice in New Jersey beyond which river you dump the body in will land you in which jurisdiction.
Nobody just takes the NJ Bar. After law school I moved to Philly for a couple of years and took the PA Bar and the NJ Bar. The NJ Bar is almost entirely taken by people who are also taking the NY or PA Bar Exams. Take the state you care about Tuesday and Wednesday, and then go to NJ and take that part on Thursday. They don't even test (or didn't at the time) any NJ-specific state law.
It's Mister Magoo's alma mater. Seriously.

Blood money, killer cops: How privatization is funding the racist logic of America's police
...?
"When all you have is a hammer..."
Back in the 70's, before any of this nasty privatization, cops used to treat black people incredibly well.
Thank God for the city government of Birmingham in the '60s, too! There might have been some discrimination had it not been for their refusal to privatize.
"The horrifying lesson of Tamir Rice: White America will use "objectivity" to justify the murder of black children"

No wonder she exists.
Yes, no white people are killed by cops, ever. Also, no black cops have killed a black man, ever. These people are so... mendacious. I would like to punch them in the head and make them stop telling lies, but I'm not sure that wouldn't violate the NAP...
It's like a relative gets run over by a Toyota and they make a fuss because of all the imported cars rather than figuring out (or even caring) if the driver was drunk or some other reason that actually caused the accident.
I glanced over his article. He could have made his assertion minus the need to shut down speech.
"Speakers who preach hatred and bigotry should never be welcomed to Rutgers. This isn't about "having a debate," because the debate is over. I'm a gay, black, Puerto Rican cis-man and am entitled to a good life just as much as anyone else, regardless of gender, religion, disability and so on. The debate's over! So next time hate speech comes to Rutgers, let's shut it up and shut it down."
Yeah, he's gonna need muscle.

GRANDMA?!
Cruz tax plan would cost $8.6 trillion, second only to Trump
So a tax cut will be expensive! Just like it costs money when you don't get mugged.
And then there at the end, the WaPo writer spells out that additional government debt is not a great thing for the economy. I wonder what this writer's stance is on government stimulus packages...
YOU MOTHERFUCKER THAT IS TWICE IN 2 DAYS
Well shit. I think either we're the same person, or we both use google news which tends to put their WaPo dumbfuckery at the top of the list.
no, i have a reuters feed on my igoogle (clone) homepage
but that is some weird shit to happen 2 days in a row
Seriously, we post the same article at the same time two days in a row. But today it will be my thread with all the pithy discussion!
(shakes fist, gnashes teeth)
You pithed off, bro?
Everything you make rightfully belongs to the government and anything they let you keep is no different than you getting welfare. That is what those assholes actually believe.
"" anything they let you keep is no different than you getting welfare""
Basically. They actually say, "Costs the government..."... as though "not collecting" taxes means they lost money from some magical bank-vault.
You broke in and stole that money when you voted for...
I eagerly await WaPo's detailed analysis of how much Hillbot's and Bernie's programs will cost.
You're not following.
Those plans will make money!
So much money, the government will never go out of business!
ha ha. I hadn't noticed that little gem on my first read. It's amazing how many lies these leftoids can cram into a few paragraphs.
Washington Post = Not Taking Is Giving
"Cruz and Trump's tax plans Reduce Future Government Revenues... therefore IMPOSING HUGE COSTS"
No mention of the fact that those huge "costs" would actually be in the form of 'money left in taxpayers pockets'
Seems like I heard something about this recently...
Old news, dude.
If only Obama knew about those federal marshals harassing the noble student loan debtors.
I'm sure it'll be in the Washington Post tomorrow.
No debtors prison. Unless you owe the mob.
By mob I assume you mean government, because the government absolutely will put you in jail/prison if you owe them money.
Yup. Government is nothing more than an extortion racket

Re: the Rutgers Socialist =
"My friends, the only business Yiannopoulos had here was to promote hate speech, and he cloaked himself in the guise of "liberty" and "free speech" to fool you otherwise. There's nothing novel or brave about him. Yiannopoulos is an old-fashioned bigot, and to hell with whomever invited him to come here or cheered him on. But to me it's not simply enough to poo-poo these reactionaries and their poisonous words, we ought to censor them.
Free speech isn't an absolute right suspended in a vacuum. It must be balanced against others if we're to pursue a just society. And remember, equality is freedom's precondition.'
"bigotry" = 'In English the word "bigot" refers to a person whose habitual state of mind includes an obstinate, irrational, or unfair intolerance of ideas, opinions, ethnicities, or beliefs that differ from their own, and intolerance of the people who hold them.[1][2]''
And also =
"' equality is freedom's precondition""
Where does this nonsense come from? It would seem not only patently false - it doesn't even make sense unless you're trying to argue that "FREEDOM IS CAPITALIST DECADENCE", or that freedom should be repressed until the Socialist Utopia is achieved.
And that's straight up 1984.
This guy is either channeling Orwell or Orwell was channeling him.
"The More Equal the Berry, the Freer the Juice"
How do we achieve equality if we don't have freedom? I guess if you pretend that Great Leader and the People's Revolutionary Party aren't part of the human race, then you can play definitional games and declare as all equal(ly impoverished and miserable). Mission Accomplished!
"Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact."
Balzac
Am I the only one who thinks that reads like a passage of Animal Farm?
What examples are available of Mill's hate speech?
He's says fag and queer a lot. Somebody is offended - boom, it's hate speech.
They never quote him, of course
Instead you get paraphrases like the following =
" Yiannopoulos called people who believe in the wage gap "idiots" and that rape culture doesn't exist. He's compared the Black Lives Matter movement to the Ku Klux Klan, claimed that lesbians are behind sexual assault, that he isn't "entirely sure" if non-penetrative sex was a thing, and that transgender people suffer from a "psychiatric disorder.""
What's notable is that he makes zero actual point here about why any of these statements are "wrong".
The point rather seems to be that 'certain people are above criticism'. Who cares what he actually said? He is a critic of Protected Classes.
I agree with all of the above. My GF (a bit of a progressive), asked me how I can call myself a libertarian if I hate on the transgendered. I told her that I didn't hate them, nor would I support using force to stop them from living however they wanted, but that I think they need psychiatric help. To shock she replied "See, how can you call yourself a libertarian?"
Sigh
*To which
One of progressives many problems is the conflation of "Tolerance" with "Affirmation".
Yes,a point I tried to make. She's not dumb, she's not even that young (although 8 yes younger than I 😉 ), but she just didn't seem to understand that one could disapprove of an action without wanting the government to use violence to prohibit such action.
Well, she does sound fairly articulate for 8.

Again, can't find the link, but apparently provicial government bond yield rates in Canada are rising. They've been increasing their spread from the federal bonds for over a decade and now they are accelerating. This can't fast enough or hard enough.
I don't care what anyone says. The libertarian "moment" (and it was active only when there was some crossover support from either the left or the right) is pretty much dead.
Trump went on a childish rant in the last debate and borrowed talking points from the 9/11 truther movement, and yet he still has a sizable lead in SC. Rand Paul was a much principled and nuanced anti war candidate and he conveyed his message without resorting to name calling. I don't he ever denigrated either Bush brother in public. He got no support.
Anger sells, I suppose. Rand's dad was an angry kook and a borderline anti semite, and he always had a loud and dedicated followers. Now they've moved onto either Trump or Sanders. Rand didn't lose because he wasn't "libertarian" enough. He didn't say (loudly) what people wanted to hear.
Yeah, we said as much when they were running Rand's obituary (see Doherty's piece on him)
It's clear that at the state level there is a Libertarian Moment of sorts. Good stuff on taxes and asset seizure reform. At the federal level, it's doing pretty terrible and will continue to until the retards shut up and sit down. Nick's desperate articles aren't helping.
The 'Ron Paul Revolution' was a total fraud OTOH.
I found a copy of Bernie Sanders campaign talking points.
Big banks, Wall Street, massive concentration of wealth, the evils of global trade, even the "the US is the only major country with no socialized healthcare" line. It's really pretty interesting reading.
Wait, the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, and TobaccA has awards?
How do we nominate people?!
I'll nominate you if you nominate me.
The federal government is allegedly dispatching U.S. marshals to track down people with unpaid student loan debts.
Who will they track down when it's free?
You, FOE, they will hunt you.
Paglia feels the Bern and doesn't think much of Hillary Clinton or the second wave feminists. http://www.salon.com/2016/01/2.....y_in_2016/
For those who don't want to click on a Salon link, even if if it helps Paglia pay the rent, (Yeah, she's a lefty feminist, but she's at least an interesting feminist with something original to say.) The TL;DR version is that the feminist movement was hijacked to become a movement for rich white women, instead of trying to help all women.
So once feminism became a campaign for upper middle class women, and went full on misandrist, it lost a lot of its appeal. It denigrated a lot of working class women, religious women, and minorities. There were plenty of working class woman who would like to have some representation.
Those ladies should shut their yaps when characters like Palin or Barbour pick up what they're throwing down.

You can bet their wearing their jackboots while goose stepping to these debtors doors!
The technology is so developed that we can watch videos, live streaming, TV serials and any of our missed programs within our mobiles and PCs. Showbox
All we need is a mobile or PC with a very good internet connection. There are many applications by which we can enjoy videos, our missed programs, live streaming etc.
"To get a gun in Canada you have to pass a lot of requirements before you can even get a gun."
Not really. You have to take a day course that runs through a book, fill out a form for the RCMP for 'bella figura' and you're set. I got mine pretty quick. I know, they gave ME a permit. /swings shot gun around.
Now how many they reject I don't know. Maybe that's where the crime - to the extent gun ownership is a right and not one to be monitored by the government - really is against liberty.

Doesn't that also depend on the firearm itself?
