The incident happened on Saturday in the town of Cumberland after an officer apparently approached a youth for riding a bike without a helmet.

I hope part of that community service includes an explanation of the seemingly ironic example of a communications professor attempting to prevent communication from taking place. Specifically, the part where it's not ironic at all. This is how "media" work - control the message, control the narrative, control the truth. This professor was acting as a gatekeeper, not allowing some student journalist to see for himself and draw his conclusions as to what was going on - if you want to tell people what's going on you're going to have to tell them what we tell you to tell them. The Truth flows from the top down, we will tell you what to believe and it's not your place to question it. Much the same as the Catholic Church discouraged reading the Bible on the grounds that you were liable to be confused and misunderstand The Truth and better just to let the Church tell you what was in there. And the fast food comparison is extra silly. Guns cost hundreds of dollars, at least. You don't just go pick up a gun because you have the hankering (OK I have done that. But unless you have a whole lot of disposable income it's not going to be a regular event). Filling in the forms and waiting for the background check kind of spoils the mood too. As does the weird old dude who won't smile at anyone.

Yeah, I live in an area with a fair number of gun stores, and there are still a bit more McDonalds and Starbucks around than gun shops. Even if I include pawn shops and sporting goods stores. If we include FFLs then I can see that but that doesn't mean there are that many gun shops out there.

Was like this in early 70's in Minnesota for me....school, basketball practice til dinner, head to the outdoor ice to play hockey til the lights went out at 10.

We were the last large school in Minnie to field a hockey team in those days and me and my bro were forced by the bball powers to quit playing hockey. If we had a high school team we would have gone with hockey...I really liked hoops and we were damn good at it, but nothing compared with flying up and down the ice, even when it was below zero, which it often was. Good times, skating outdoors it sweatpants at 10 below, hit the warming hut for 5 or 10 to thaw out the skates and back out again.
