Canadian Prof Yanked From Teaching Intro Psych Class For Insisting on Foul Language
Forcing students to sign agreement accepting slurs and curses was "a tremendous recruitment tool."
Via Inside Higher Ed comes one of the weirder stories about college I've read in a while.
For years, Michael Persinger has taught an introductory psychology class at Canada's Laurentian University. Before his first lecture, he has students sign a waiver that they won't freak out over the ribald and offensive language he uses.
"One of my techniques is to expose people to all types of different words," Persinger told CBC News. "Silly words, complex words, emotional words, profane words. Because they influence how you make decisions and how you think."
By using words in lectures that cause emotion, Persinger said he can teach students about how that affects the brain's rational processes.
In December, a couple of months into last fall's semester, he was told by top university brass that he'd no longer be teaching the course because his pedagogy runs counter to the school's "respectful workplace" policies.
He says that his academic freedom has been shredded and his school's faculty union is backing him on that score.
Additionally, Persinger told CBC News that his antics generated positive buzz among students:
"It's also a tremendous recruitment tool. Students enjoy the fact that it says 'restricted' on the top. What they like about the class is they can ask any question they want, no matter how politically incorrect," he said.
"And we will discuss it in a rational way, using data more than emotional argument, more than political correctness and more that just social agendas."
So what kind of language are we talking about here? Go here for Persinger's full "Statement of Understanding" he has the kiddos sign before the the first class. Here are some examples:
You can get some sense of what kind of joker Persinger is from the list above. Unless you had a really bad experience with a mortician or a FEMA trailer, it's hard to see too many students getting bent out of shape over Formaldehyde. Even Canadians, famous for their politeness, aren't going to be bothered by Shitface or Pussy, though offense taken at Fag, the non-Ted-Nugent-approved spelling of Puntang, and some of the others would likely depend on the context. Which the professor helpfully lays out for his students in examples such as the following:
I've never been a big fan of showy college profs, the type what tries to infuse his (almost always a he in my experience) lectures with drama, comedy, and, more typically, a narcissism more commonly found among actors in dinner-theater productions. But nobody is forced to sit through Prof. Persinger's lectures, disquisitions, and juvenile-to-me antics, now are they? Even if it's a required class, I assume there's more than one section of Intro Psych. At least according to Persinger, his higher-ups wouldn't say exactly why they were pulling the plug on him. Did students object? Other faculty? It's not clear.
This story raises any number of questions, first and foremost among them: Should colleges be able to tell their faculty how and what to teach?
For god's sake, what a nightmare it would be if every goddamn class plan for every meeting had to be OK'ed by "the administration," right?
Well, no, really. As consumers, we expect or even demand some kind of quality control for every burger we buy or car we drive off the lot. You can cry "academic freedom" all you want when it comes to what gets taught in undergrad classes, but the original conceptions of that term covered research topics and non-school-based political commitments. That is, academic freedom covered profs whose research and writings ran afoul of censorious attitudes of administrators, elected officials, and other do-gooders. Over time, academic freedom has become a fetishized concept that can be used to defend anything and everything, from bad teaching to lousy research to you name it. It has never been particularly well defended because it has never been particularly well defined.
In an American context, the First Amendment covers publicly funded universities and thus provides a (hypothetically) strong case of maximal freedom of speech on campuses, whether by students, faculty, or visiting lecturers. Canada offers nothing close to the First Amendment to its citizens, of course, and even still it's not fully clear to me that this case is really about meaningful repression of campus speech.
Regardless of philosophical axioms, it seems to me that any business or organization is always going to be negotiating among its customers, best employees, and the general public. You don't want to annoy your best producers (and Persinger is well-regarded in his field and teaches at a school that seems pretty meh among Canadian universities). Even in industries where labor markets are tight (such as academia generally), employers hassle their standouts at their own peril, especially without clear evidence that the employee is offending anybody or hurting the literal or figurative bottom line. At the same time, why shouldn't a school be able to say, "You know what, this sort of thing just isn't what we're about, so we're shutting it down"?
The reputations of universities and other firms encode a lot of information in them. In a higher ed context, that will include the scholarly and teaching reputations of faculty and whether students are excited or weirded out by their experience in and out of the classroom. I suspect that I wouldn't want to take Persinger's intro psych class even as I'd probably want to attend a college that featured faculty with reputations for being off-beat.

We can live like kings! Damn hell ass kings!
The Prof stole his story from an old "med school comedy spoof" movie called "Young Doctors in Love." As the med students rotate through pathology, a ghoulish Pathologist exhorts them to "use their senses-touch, smell and yes taste to perceive the body and its fluids!" He then offers a pungent, orangey - yellow jar of urine and says that "the taste of this urine is instructive."
The most bookish and serious of the students breaks the ensuing silence by taking the jar, inserting one or two fingers, withdrawing it and then smelling the finger (s). He pushes the jar back to the Pathologist and then appears to taste the fingers to disturbed and disgusted noises, and fascinated sidelong glances. He ponders and makes a pronouncement, something like "too sweet; indicative of diabetes." The Prof grabs the jar and does his own finger test, then says he disagrees. The student holds up his hand and says he was only kidding, he never tasted the dipped finger (s). Trust me-the acting was more comedic than my writing.
From what I've read, tasting urine actually was a common method of diagnosing diabetes in the old days.
One of my teachers from China told us that his elementary school teacher used to ask for his urine and drink it to treat diabetes.
I don't recall clearly, but I am fairly sure I read a joke nigh identical to this one, not the Doctors in Love variation, in something written before the film was made. I could be wrong about the date, since I don't recall the book specificly, but I do remember reading it as a joke being recounted by a character in a book, and publications as recent as that film make up a very small porkscentage of stupid crap I've read.
This particular professor's modded-motorcycle mindfuck helmet is quite a gadget. Surprised it was not mentioned in the article, even as an aside.
Aren't you supposed to cite direct quotes of Agile Cyborg?
Agile Cyborg says, and I quote, "The BR549-ism of the applicants for Inter-Galactic immunity from prosecution for infidelity to the norms of lactic-acid-dropping, NORMAL humanoids, is just flat-out pathetic, and oblivious to the casual observer!" To that, I would add, any NORMAL humanoid, when faced with the mind-bending and brain-centers-of-the-Medusa-oblongata snake/human dichotomy-bending paranormal and metaphysical-trippingness bifurcatedness... And excuse me, but I must insert, did you know that Will Rodgers once said, "I never met a physics that I did not like?"... (That's Metaphysics for you; and let me also add, "Philosophy is useless, theology is worse", to quote Adolph Stalin)... Then let me just summarize, the beer is running out!!!! HELP!!!! OK, also, this: Mindfulness implies spinelessness!!!! Ye all just do NOT have the DISCIPLINE and BRAVERY to embrace the mindlessness w/in ye!!!! (Drop some glasses of iced milk with me, and ye will see!!!)
I'm surprised some of his other research wasn't mentioned, like his use of MRI to recognize thoughts, and of EM to manipulate them. I never guessed Persinger would make the news for his teaching, of all things.
And you assholes say Canada is boring.
Bend over. I'll show you boring.
No wonder Alex Trebek is from Sudbury.
I had an Ancient History course and the prof had a disclaimer that went something like "In this course you'll be exposed to bad language and worse jokes." The language was bad. The jokes were not. He was hilarious and made a liberal arts class much more interesting for a physics major. I liked it.
*I was the best man in this professor's son's wedding so I went in knowing what to expect. He was no different telling a story about Alexander the Great in the lecture hall than he was telling a dirty joke on the deck at a 4th of July barbecue.
Punta?
Doesn't that whore mean "puta"?
I bet the word nigger is not on that list.
I don't know about that but the professor was rather niggardly in how many words he put in there.
It looks like he randomly selected three letters from the dictionary and chose every bad word he could think of that started with those three letters. What a douche.
Considering this list was a "selection" of the words on his full list, who's the douche? You'd be one of the guys who sucked dead-guy ass juice from your finger, methinks.
Your butt.... Would you say it hurts?
We should ask what the 451 stands for.
4 guys, 5 fingers, 1 asshole
good observation
I once had a teacher who described his religion as "Pillowism": he worshipped his pillow on Sunday morning.
So, he was, um, sack-religious?
+1
Did the worship involve biting?
OT: Thank heavens Germany has strict gun control, and that immigration is always and forever an unqualified good.
We don't know those were actual migrants. It is probably a false flag made to make the peaceful, freedom loving migrants look bad.
One of the hilarious responses has been: "We don't know if they were migrants! They could be earlier Muslim immigrants who have had time to assimilate, and... uh... uuummmm...."
Is this actually wrong? Is there proof that they were migrants? I know you're a moron and all so this might be difficult to comprehend but there is this thing called 'burden of proof'.
No, it just doesn't make any difference, since there is no reason to believe the migrants are any better or different.
Woosh go those goalposts.
"since there is no reason to believe the migrants are any better or different."
Ah and also goes the burden of proof. HOW WILL I DISPROVE THIS NEGATIVE?
Yeah, I mean just because they share the same religion and culture doesn't mean they aren't different. Somehow Arabs and Muslims developed a rape problem by coming to Europe. The fact that they have this exactly same culture and problems at home apparently doesn't matter because only the nice ones came or something.
It is amazing how ignorant you make yourself to keep from accepting reality.
So IOW you can't prove that the degenerates are new migrants and don't want to admit it.
John fucks up and lies, news at 6.
So IOW you can't prove that the degenerates are new migrants and don't want to admit it.
Yes I can. That is what the German media and police are saying.
http://www.spiegel.de/internat.....71175.html
Everyone now admits it was primarily refugees who did this, except people like you who are delusional.
I thought we were talking about the thing Papaya linked to above?
No, we are talking about reality. How many times do we have to kick you in the teeth with it before you admit it exists?
No, I was talking about Papaya's dumb link to a non-video. Do try to keep up.
The beginning of that article makes clear that what happened is not clear. Unlike you, I prefer to wait for the facts.
And the rest of the article says exactly what happened. REad something besides the first paragraph.
I prefer to wait for the facts
Barack Obama approves of this message. Wait until I tell you the facts, sheep, stop trying to do your own research, that's what your betters are for.
"I prefer to wait for the facts to be fabricated to spec"
So IOW you can't prove that the degenerates are new migrants and don't want to admit it.
What the fuck? Please explain why the degenerates being new migrants or older ones makes a difference.
What's hilarious is that if they aren't new migrants, then the problem is obviously worse. The daydream of Cytotoxic is that Muslims will drop their home cultures and assimilate, so if the attacks weren't all new immigrants, then it proves that the assimilation thing ain't happening.
And now it turns out there were coordinated attacks in Finland, too.
"The daydream of Cytotoxic is that Muslims will drop their home cultures and assimilate"
That also happens to be the reality all over North America.
No, not really.
The USA is much more successful assimilating people from different cultures. For many reasons. Start with the USA is already far more demographically diverse than Europe. The USA has more jobs available. Europe already has a dismal record of assimilating people from different cultures, and yet you have Merkel and her idiot comrade in France trying to quickly import millions more of the same people they already have difficulty assimilating? Disaster.
Also, in USA, it is rare for people in a vicinity to be of a distinct and obvious genetic stock, whereas in Europe it is fairly common for a neighbourhood to be populated by folks who in USA would be assumed to all be closely related. They talk about nailing people in Europe by accent, which is true, but there are areas where one can identify a person's point of origin by gross physiognomy. At least in USA if one acts like an upstanding white USAmerican B?rger he can generally pass with little difficulty as one of the authentic Folk. In most of Europe, failure to attain perfect conformity in anatomy or dialect leaves one endlessly marked as ajeno.
Speaking of which, it occurred to me today that the Germans describing their country as the "Fatherland" may be simply a reaction to the South calling it "Germany" (or variations therof), which is to say, "Brotherland". Either that or they were just copying the Romans. Since the latter is obviously true in many other areas, it more likely, but the Fatherland/Brotherland contrast is still noteworthy and fun.
No it is not.
Right, Cyto, and disregard reporting for years about the rising rape and other violent crime rates accompanying Muslim immigration into all Euro countries. Its all biased and dishonest and unfair, right?
[citation required]
And of course, they are going to make Europe more free.
Let's not delude ourselves," said Ludger W??mann, director of Munich-based Ifo Center for the Economics of Education. "From everything we know so far, it seems that the majority of refugees would first need extensive training and even then it's far from certain that it would work out."

So they are bringing in a million people with no marketable skills and of an alien culture, and stick them on the dole leaving them to the ravages of dependency and social isolation.
What could possibly go wrong. Here is a clue for you Cytoxic, as long as you have welfare, you can never have open borders in the sense you and every other Libertarian who knows just enough about economics to be dangerous thinks you can. Without welfare, these people would never be in Europe. They have economic prospects and no reason to ever go there and would quickly go back where they came from if they did. They only come and stay because of welfare. So opening the border to them is not "free markets and free movement". It is nothing but internationalizing the theft from the German taxpayers being perpetrated by the German government via welfare.
Blah blah blah horseshit. There is no correlation between immigration and welfarism.
http://object.cato.org/sites/c.....2n1-11.pdf
Educate yourself.
"So they are bringing in a million people with no marketable skills"
Can they heft? If you can heft, you've got what you need. Lift stuff, clean stuff, move things. WORK BITCHES WORK. That's how they will make Europe a better place.
Really? No correlation? http://www.usatoday.com/story/...../71517072/
Just stop. When you import poverty, what are you expecting?
Lift stuff, clean stuff, move things.
Because none of those things get done anywhere by non-immigrants.
Pull quote from wareagle's article:
About 51% of immigrant-led households receive at least one kind of welfare benefit, including Medicaid, food stamps, school lunches and housing assistance, compared to 30% for native-led households, according to the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for lower levels of immigration.
Those numbers increase for households with children, with 76% of immigrant-led households receiving welfare, compared to 52% for the native-born.
52% for the native-born.
The average household is so far below average they need welfare benefits. We cannot, shall not, rest until everybody is above average. Everybody has a basic human right to be above average, goddammit.
Pretty sure Cato pwnd them here as well.
Center for Immigration Studies Report Exaggerates Immigrant Welfare Use
http://www.cato.org/blog/cente.....elfare-use
Didn't we import poverty in North America back in the day?
Yes, and dipshits were also screeching about how the Irish/Chinese/etc were going to END AMERICA. And they were wrong, and they're still wrong. Still stupid.
we imported poverty without the presence of a welfare state back in the day. You can't unlimited immigration AND a welfare state. The early wave of newcomers relied on family, perhaps the broader ethnic community, and maybe a church in order to get established, to find work and to begin the process of assimilation.
Today, we don't just have immigration that leeches onto an already-stressed welfare system, there is also a greater reluctance to assimilate because that goal is no longer built-in. With the Muslim world, it's further exacerbated with immigrants hostile to the new culture that surrounds them. I don't see how this ends well.
"You can't unlimited immigration AND a welfare state."
Yes you can see below.
Didn't we import poverty in North America back in the day?
During the height of mass immigration to the US some context:
1) No government funded welfare programs existed. No welfare of any kind other than church charity.
2) It was the height of the industrial revolution and employment was easily obtained. Mass construction projects including the building of roads, railroads, bridges, tunnels, subways were widespread.
3) GDP grew between 7-10% annually.
Are circumstance today the same or different?
"2) It was the height of the industrial revolution and employment was easily obtained. Mass construction projects including the building of roads, railroads, bridges, tunnels, subways were widespread.
3) GDP grew between 7-10% annually."
Do you think maybe mass immigration is what helped this happen? Ever occur to you?
1) See below.
Hmmm. Possibly a growing country needed the manual labor and was willing to put up with some social dislocation and disruption? Is Europe growing economically? Today's labor market requires skills and an educated workforce, this is particularly true for Germany. Are low skill immigrant workers likely to be employable? Or, are they a burden on the welfare state?
And please don't confuse correlation with causation. Immigration doesn't cause growth. Immigrants can be assimilated more easily when a country is growing. European demographics call for an increase in skilled/educated laborers. Are migrants likely to be skilled or educated? No, no they are not.
And please don't confuse correlation with causation. Immigration doesn't cause growth. Immigrants can be assimilated more easily when a country is growing. European demographics call for an increase in skilled/educated laborers. Are migrants likely to be skilled or educated? No, no they are not.
Oh my God Ms. Eleanor, you are going to make me have a crush on you. Gee, someone on here actually understands how labor markets work and that growth drives immigration not the other way around.
Gee, someone on here actually understands how labor markets work and that growth drives immigration not the other way around.
Well, it's a feedback loop. Free markets demand labor, immigrants are willing to satisfy that need making it easier for businesses to expand. This process creates demand as immigrants gain skills and their own capital, which in turn creates more business activity. A positive feedback loop. Those aren't are current circumstances.
Just plopping down a bunch of unskilled laborers in an post-industrial society isn't going to create economic growth - well, except for Keynesian growth dependent on government spending which creates demand without capital investment.
Fucking Hayek was the bomb.
Fair point. It is a feedback loop. And yeah mindlessly adding bodies doesn't not create growth other than the Keynesian Ponzi scheme kind.
Of course, mass migration helped make the industrial revolution happen and fast GDP growth happen. But it was mass migration of the right kind of people, namely people who are attracted to a country where they could succeed without the interference of government or the benefits of a welfare state.
It is idiotic to conclude from that, as you seem to, that any mass migration is automatically beneficial. Who self-selects for immigration makes a world of difference.
Bingo Ms. Eleanor. IF you don't have welfare and people only come here because they have family or some kind of economic prospects, that is free markets and free movements. But if people are just coming to go on welfare, that isn't free movement, that is just internationalizing theft.
Cyto is like all Dems and Lib-sorry, moderate Repubs who want open borders immigration and a radical increase in the number of low education members of our workforce. The denial of the idea that most will avail themselves of a large variety of social benefits that Dem associated outreach groups will help them get into is similar to the denial by many libs that extended unemployment insurance keeps many people unemployed.
Many of the unemployed hold off, dutifully applying here and there, not getting another job until the benefits run out. Many of us who had an earlier (or current) life at a lower SES saw this, other of us have read of it. And it is was shown once again empirically the last time that long term unemployment was cut off; unemployment dropped noticeably.
God you are fucking stupid. A CATO study on the US does not refute what is happening in Germany right now. Different country different immigrants.
Learn how to debate or just shut the fuck up. These immigrants have no skills and no prospects and would not be in Germany except for welfare. The Syrian refugees you are so gung ho for the American taxpayer to subsidize would not be here either if not for the US government paying for it. That is not free markets you ignorant fuck.
"Different country different immigrants."
There's that burden of again. Guess who needs to fullfit it IT'S YOU.
Reality: "Interestingly, this is different from Europe, where increasing immigration and greater ethnic diversity have diminished support for the welfare state. It turns out the social democratic welfare model of Northern Europe is more dependent on ethnic and racial homogeneity than most of its supporters care to admit."
http://www.cato.org/publicatio.....ate-bigger
here's that burden of again. Guess who needs to fullfit it IT'S YOU.
Which part of this quote do you not understand?
Let's not delude ourselves," said Ludger W??mann, director of Munich-based Ifo Center for the Economics of Education. "From everything we know so far, it seems that the majority of refugees would first need extensive training and even then it's far from certain that it would work out."
That is called evidence. And it relates to this situation. You have nothing that contradicts it other than your usual delusional bullshit. Jesus you are embarrassing sometimes.
HAHAHAHHAAHHAHA a quote from some guy from some institute is not proof. You get more pathetic with every post. Nothing in there even supports the notion that Europe's migrants are different from America's immigrants.
HAHAHAHHAAHHAHA a quote from some guy from some institute is not proof.
Yes it is. You have no evidence to contradict it. And moreover, it is hardly unexpected that a bunch of migrants from totally broken and alien societies would have no economic prospects in an advanced western country like Germany. Germany has a shortage of skilled labor not unskilled labor. Therefore, unskilled immigrants have no economic prospects there. It is called supply and demand you half wit.
You really are an amazing idiot. You actually think that people who don't speak the language, have no or inferior education, could succeed in a country like Germany. "Just sweep floors". You actually said that. It is like you are on here to discredit the case for immigration or something. Wow.
So says the guy who thinks that a few Cato papers are all he needs to disprove vast amounts of real-world data.
Good point Papaya.
You can't rely on evidence from think tanks. You need real sources like CATO
Signed
Cytoxic
He is a comedy routine on this issue.
"You can't rely on evidence from think tanks. You need real sources like CATO"
You're such a retard that you don't know the difference between 'something a guy at a think tank said' and 'studies'.
Neither you nor John understand what 'proof' and 'data' are. The Cato papers are data. Your links to NutJob.com are not data, nor are they proof. Neither is a quote from Some Guy.
"You actually think that people who don't speak the language, have no or inferior education, could succeed in a country like Germany."
They have before and you offer no reason to believe otherwise.
Cytoxic,
The guy in the link I gave you does give actual statistics.
Speaking in an interview with Zeit magazine, the professor admits there are no definite statistics on literacy of migrants arriving yet, but combining knowledge of migrants already arrived and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development surveys of the nations where refugees come from paints a bleak picture.
In a blow to German manual workers, the professor also suggested the only hope to get many migrants working and off welfare programmes is to suspend the minimum wage for them. He batted off the suggestion doing so would be harmful to the "dignity" of migrants, as leaving them unemployed would be worse. He made no mention of the dignity of native workers undercut by imported labour.
Responding to the idea that education was the key to successful integration of refugees, as postulated by Federal Education Minister Johanna Wanka, professor W??mann said the fundamental lack of basic skills made bringing migrants up to speed quickly near impossible. Even at a young age, a "Syrian eighth grader in middle school is five years behind their peers at German schools".
Germany has one of the best education systems in the world and some of the highest trade and professional standards in the world. Yeah, some guy with an 8th grade education from Syria who speaks no German has tremendous prospects there.
There's not a single stat in that quote. He admits as much in the first paragraph.
"some guy with an 8th grade education from Syria who speaks no German has tremendous prospects there."
Why not? Uneducated immigrants who spoke no English made it big in America and elsewhere. Why would Germany's education system change that? Don't answer I'm sure you'll say something stupid.
There's not a single stat in that quote
Oh really?
but combining knowledge of migrants already arrived and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development surveys of the nations where refugees come from paints a bleak picture.
Unlike you this guy actually looked at these migrants. And these are adult men. They are not going to school anymore. They are going on welfare.
As a side note, very Libertarian of you to expect the German taxpayers to educate these assholes. There is nothing unfair or wrong about that. I guess you love taxes and public schools now.
And you're trying to construct an argument about immigration out of this... how?
That's because the US actually has tight controls on immigration and effectively limits immigration mostly to people with high skills or who already have family here that wants them to come. In addition, the US historically restricted any kind of government benefits to immigrants and threatened deportation if you became a public charge. For illegal aliens, the US government used to be entirely unavailable, so they had to earn to eat, and they faced deportation when discovered. None of that applies in Europe. How do I know? Because I am actually an immigrant, and used to be one in Europe.
The US, somewhat accidentally, ended up with an immigration system that is similar to what a immigration would look like in a libertarian world, namely that you can move somewhere if people actually want you to move there ("work for us", "live with us").
The idea that you can conclude anything about what immigrants are doing in Europe based on a historical study of immigrants to the US is utter "horseshit". Your indiscriminate use of statistics is nothing short of idiotic. And the sad thing is that with all the changes to the US immigration system, things may already be changing in the US as well and we won't know for decades to come.
You've been schooled by Shikha Graham. Or is it Lindsey Dalmia?
You wouldn't know the difference on account of being a simpleton.
Shariah is completely incompatible with Western culture and law. But most Muslims disapprove of Shariah? Then why are so many Muslim countries living under Shariah? If most Muslims disapprove of it, then why would that be true?
Assumes Muslim immigrants will bring Sharia with them without evidence.
Assumes Muslim immigrants will bring Sharia with them without evidence.
Just because they demand it everywhere they go doesn't mean it will happen this time.
"So they are bringing in a million people with no marketable skills and of an alien culture, and stick them on the dole leaving them to the ravages of dependency and social isolation."
Intentionally? Or just purposively? Because at this point there's no way it can be an honest error.
Is there proof that they were migrants?
Well, the migrants get ID cards that flag them as such, so suspect there's that much basis at least for this conclusion. This is from the cops, after all, who tried to bury the entire rape riot, and who seem to be on board with the politicians "nothing to see here move along" narrative, so I doubt the cops are exaggerating.
Plus, I don't see how it matters when they migranted to Germany, whether it was last month, last year, or ten years ago.
"I don't see how it matters when they migranted to Germany, whether it was last month, last year, or ten years ago."
It does in the context of the migrant scare. That didn't happen until recently. At least you're trying to engage the point and provide actual evidence.
is that a serious argument? The problem in Germany has been definitively linked to a specific group and you're wanting to quibble over how recently people from that group moved in. What the hell difference does that make? It's still people from that same group.
The collectivism is strong in this one.
The difference is that migrants got in with a lot fewer checks and a lot more chaos whereas previous immigrants did not. Knowing which one pulled off the Cologne thing (if either) would be helpful in understanding what's going on.
The collectivism is strong in this one.
Lol. From the guy who believes that human beings are fungible for immigration purposes.
The past is only a 100% predictive model for the future when Cytotoxic is comparing 19th century Welsh textile workers with 21st century Syrians fleeing a civil war (exacerbated, lest we forget, by the feckless American military flailing in the region, which has Cytotoxic's full and unqualified support; aside from those subhuman savages in immediate need a good ol' fashioned American nuking, Muslims are model citizens of the world. It's a strange but perfect dichotomy).
And you know this... how? What the fuck do you know about immigration in Germany (or the US, for that matter)?
So native Muslims doing this says nothing about the wisdom of importing more Muslims? IS that your final answer? And see the link below, the majority of the suspects are migrants.
You have lost this argument about six different ways. Yes it was migrants and no even if it wasn't it wouldn't do the case for letting the migrants in any good.
Yes, Jerry actually provided some evidence. He understands this concept a lot better than you.
1) Suspects are just that, suspected. Not convicted.
2) That's 22 people out of many thousands. You can stop using the Cologne rape thing as a weapon against the other migrants anytime now.
So Cytoxix,
How many German woman have to be assaulted and raped so you can feel good about yourself? A thousand? A million? It is great how you so bravely expect other people to suffer for your ideals.
Yeah, of course they are "suspected". Maybe they didn't do it. But even if they didn't, it is almost certain the ones who did were migrants. What do you think this wall all Germans who did this? ARe we back to that nonsense again?
WHEN DID YOU STOP RAPING YOUR WIFE
So Cytoxix,
How many German woman have to be assaulted and raped so you can feel good about yourself?
All of them, if that's what it takes to appease a single multicultural fan.
/Barack Obama and the Cytotoxians
Just what we need. A lot of solid Prussian women transformed to vessels of the Mud People.
You understand the implication, I hope -- if they're migrants, then at least you have the option of further stopping migration and working hard on deporting bad actors and assimilating less bad ones. If they're natives, you have a much bigger problem, one that will tempt people toward a bigger (perhaps Final) solution.
It's important that we have a clear understanding of what happened, not leap around like John does.
Nikki and Sugar Free went completely insane on this issue. It was sad but funny to hear them accuse everyone else of being trolls for having the temerity to believe their lying eyes.
How dare they call people out for making unfounded assumptions!
LOL. Yeah, it is totally unfounded to think that nothing happened here and if it did the migrants had nothing to do with it. Yeah, all of those German women could be lying and places like the NYT and the London Telegraph and Der Speigal could be lying too and just biased against Muslims.
You didn't make the list of "went insane" because you have always been insane on this issue.
"t is totally unfounded to think that nothing happened here and if it did the migrants had nothing to do with it. "
Again, goal posts go whoosh.
Cyto, what you call "unfounded assumptions", I call "applying the evidence right before your eyes".
Who could have predicted that a wave of young, unattached males from backward MENA cultures into Europe would lead to social unrest? I mean, its never happened before, has it?
Not in France, with its annual carbeques and no-go banlieus.
Not in England, with its massive child rape ring and official coverup.
Not in Sweden, with its huge spike in sexual assaults.
Why would anyone think that people from the cultures that produced the Tahrir Square rapefests wouldn't try to reproduce in in Germany, Finland, Sweden, etc.?
Muslim immigrants never change you culture RC. They make you freer. Didn't you know that?
Look at Sweden. Thanks to Muslim immigration they have been saved from the scourge of co-ed hot tubs.
http://www.thelocal.se/2016010.....-and-women
The word 'Muslim' is not even mentioned in that story. More lies from John.
Yeah Cytoxic, Sweden has those things for years and never a problem. Then after an influx of immigrants women start getting groped.
They didn't say the word because they were PC to do it and everyone knows who it is anyway.
"They didn't say the word because they were PC to do it"
And here we see John trying to cover up his lies with pretend mind-reading.
changing the way you do things to make those moving to your home feel better. Hard to imagine how this could ever be a problem.
Burden of proof is apparently a wholly alien concept to yokeltarians.
And "burden of proof" to you obviously means (1) pulling assertions out of your ass, and (2) occasionally citing "studies" without any understanding.
Oh John, can't you learn from Cyto? See, he points out that they didn't note Muslims! So it can't be the universally understood Patriarchal reality of Muslim culture that makes Roman Catholics look like Swedish Feminists. No, it must be your bias, or so much libertarianism that you are blinded to the peace and serenity of PC. Come, John - embrace cool, smooth lack of thought.
"Not in Sweden, with its huge spike in sexual assaults."
You mean the mythical rape epidemic? I've covered this already: no evidence of an increase in rape in Sweden.
"Not in France, with its annual carbeques and no-go banlieus."
Nothing to do with anything. France is a dysfunctional hellhole. It was before the migrants got there.
"Cyto, what you call "unfounded assumptions", I call "applying the evidence right before your eyes"."
I can't wait until I am shown this evidence.
The non-existent increase in Swedish rapes. This was all due to a "redefinition of rape," right? What year was that again? Explain to us how a redefinition in one year explains away this graph, Oh Master of Statistics! LOL
"There have been several international comparisons made, placing Sweden at the top end of the number of reported rapes. However, police procedures and legal definitions vary widely across countries, which makes it difficult to compare rape statistics.[8][9][10][11] For example, Sweden reformed its sex crime legislation and made the legal definition of rape much wider in 2005,[3][4][8][12] which largely explains a significant increase in the number of reported rapes in the ten-year period of 2004-2013.[13][14] The Swedish police also record each instance of sexual violence in every case separately, leading to an inflated number of cases compared to other countries.[8][11][15] Additionally, the Swedish police have improved the handling of rape cases, in an effort to increase the number of crimes reported.[8][14][16][17] "
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_in_Sweden
Basically those numbers don't mean anything after 2005 and even before that it is extremely difficult to tease anything out. There's no evidence of anything. Also, that increase which is supposed to scare me won't if it's coming off of an extremely low baseline.
Also correlation =/= causation. If immigrants did cause a Swedish rape epidemic then it should happen outside of Sweden and it does not seem to be.
Except that Muslims are almost entirely responsible for the rapes that do occur in Sweden.
A 1996 Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention report bears this out. It noted that Muslim immigrants from North Africa were 23 times more likely to commit rape than Swedish men.
Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2015/10.....z3wmFtPFoS
And 77% of the rapes in Sweden are committed by Muslims who are 2% of the population. If you don't believe me, google it. Reason won't take my link.
Is there any statistic you can't misunderstand or outright lie about?
Yeah, I consider myself a qualified supporter of admitting refugees. But, the nonsense I'm hearing from a lot of people on my side of the argument makes me want to just walk away from the discussion.
There are problems with the refugees. It's blindingly obvious that there are problems with the refugees. But, too many of supporters seem to want to replace sneering, doubletalk, and insults for observing empirical reality.
I still think that admitting refugees is something that can be done. And I think it can be done in the right way. But, pretending A is non-A doesn't do much beyond discrediting the people making that argument.
For what it's worth I came across this on wiki:
"The anti-immigration Sweden Democrats Party has repeatedly made the claim that the high number of rape reports is at least partly due to the influx of Muslim immigrants.[34][35] Two reports from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BR?) are relevant to the rate of rape among immigrants to Sweden and their descendants. The latest published report that indicates the association between immigrants and rape was published in 2005 and revealed that from 1997 to 2001 foreign born individuals were 5.5 times more likely to be charged of rape than individuals born in Sweden to two Swedish parents and that foreign born individuals from all regions, apart from East Asia, committed sexual assaults at rates up to 5.3 times greater than that of individuals born in Sweden to two Swedish parents.[36] ...
The report doesn't break down the foreign born category by country of origin despite the fact that country of origin has been found to be highly predictive of crime rates in other Nordic countries.[37] However, a 1996 report by the BR? break down rate of rape convictions by country of origin, using data from 1985 to 1989 it found particularly high rates of rape convictions among certain immigrant groups. Among the highest rates we individuals born in Iraq, North Africa (Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia), Africa (excluding Uganda and the North African countries), and Romanian/Bulgaria who were convicted of rape at rates 20, 23, 17, and 18 times greater than individuals born in Sweden respectively.[18] Although, according to crime victim surveys from the BR?, the actual rate of sex crimes has been more or less unchanged in Sweden between 2005 and 2014, despite the fact that immigration has increased during the same time period."

You can't deny *something* is happening.
I guess we'll take NutJob.com's word for it because they don't have the video handy.
Do you ever link to anything other than gibbering racist retards on the internet? Ever?
On Cologne:

I don't sprechen the deutsch.
Run it through the google translator. The problem is you don't speak reality.
The German police has its eye on 32 suspects, 22 of them are asylum seekers.
Then they should arrest the ones they think are guilty and charge them. The other asylum seekers should be treated as individuals and not smeared by association.
Yeah, we shouldn't ever judge anyone by their culture or ever worry about the culture of people crossing the border to live on your welfare state.
Yeah, PWN that strawman! Move those goalposts!
Hush, Cytotoxic. They have collectivisin' for the state to do. ALL FOR THE NATIVIST STATE.
Now, run along.
Yeah JW,
Tell me about how unfair it is to collectivize and judge Coips, Progressives, or SOCONs based on our lying eyes. It is just amazingly unfair how people judge them isn't it?
Everybody who disagrees with me is a pig-fucking backwards racist fear monger xenophobe. And by the way, quit collectivizing!
Unless you had a really bad experience with a mortician or a FEMA trailer, it's hard to see too many students getting bent out of shape over Formaldehyde.
Over Toluene, OTOH, ....

By using words in lectures that cause emotion, Persinger said he can teach students about how that affects the brain's rational processes.
I'll just leave this here.
You asked for an experience and I shall give you one. Sit back because it's a long one.
Back when I was in university I took a European political science class that focused on France, UK, Germany, Italy and Sweden. The professor - one Mr. Hermann - was from Germany and straight out of a 60s sitcom - rotund, red faced and surly. He would stand erudite with his arms behind his back regaling us with many tales of education equipped with what I regarded to be a disturbing grin. As if this wasn't enough for this rube, I sat next to a dyed in the wool Canadian-UK monarchist who upon introductions among the first things he said was 'I hate Germans'. When he asked me of my origins, I meekly answered Italian unsure what was about to follow. 'Oh, I had a drink in an Italian bar in Toronto. I think they called it 'bitter'. Fine blokes.' 'Yes. It's one of my favorites - especially Crotona - the gold one'. I now had the mangiacake's mind blown. 'There are other colors?' he asked. I replied, 'white, gold and red.' He just smiled and nodded his head...
...Soon, the professor then proceeded to become my hero. First, he explained the syllabus and began to answer the usual insipid questions from un-serious students. 'Sir, what books should we focus on?' and for the more diligent ones 'what chapters should we focus on?' His response as he stared out of the window. Why I don't know because the view was a brick wall on a cloudy wintry day in the posture already described, 'In Europe, my dear lazy children, you are responsible for 50 books to read and understand. Here, five is too many for our precious students.' He didn't answer any of their queries. They were visibly upset.
Me and the Monarchist looked at each other with a 'who the fuck is this guy?' I put on my Ferris Bueller grin, sat back and new this was gonna be special...
Blocks Rufus.
...Over the next few classes he did not disappoint. A student went into a mildly pointless tirade and when he asked where she was from she replied some country in North Africa - or maybe it was Armenia. I can't remember nor does it matter it could have been God's Kingdom and he probably would have answered in the same manner, that is with a most mocking smile as if to say 'pft.' Needless to say, he was getting students nervous. Not me, man. I was loving it.
Along the way he mocked Canada for not having an indigenous car industry like Sweden. Laughed at various questions from students in their faces and didn't even bother to respond. By the third class, the amount of students present was much less than on opening day. Suffice to say, he scared a sufficient amount of snowflakes off. ...
The course was going to be divided among the five countries and he would open each with a proclamation. England was 'the single most influential nation in human history' and Italy 'a first-rate civilization of supreme sophistication unmatched by anyone in Europe.' With the former, my new monarchist friend could but look on with pride. I seriously thought he was gonna stand up and sing 'God save the Queen' and the latter I gave him a wink and said, 'remember. Red, white and gold.' Man, he laughed.
Professor Hermann then had us write about Robert Wagner and looking back I think I now know why he did that. Wagner was a complex dude and forced us to face the fact human nature is filled with stuff we don't like the hear. He was a notoriously difficult grader and was happy I got an 'A'. Hermann was seen as a rude, rash and retarded professor but to me he was the best I had. He looked in people's faces and basically told them they were an idiot when they were, well, being, idiots. He didn't apologize for that and God bless him for it. I heard he passed away years ago. Too bad. Academia was richer for his presence. Imagine someone like him on today's unhealthy and obsessively sensitive campuses across the continent?
There would be no trigger-warning big enough.
Thanks for reading and apologize in advance for its length.
D'OH. RICHARD Wagner. I didn't edit it as you can see.
You right the first time. Hart to Hart was a deeply compelling, complex look at both contemporary American marriage, and criminal justice theory. As well as providing commentary on the distribution of wealth.
I remember. She was hot.
You should watch Wagner in "A Kiss Before Dying".
Awww, they kiss when they get out of the shower, how sweet.
Oh, a kiss before dying. I thought it was a kiss before drying.
"Thanks for reading and apologize in advance for its length." Placed at the end of the text.
Double d'oh!
You guys are swift and unforgiving!
Great story Rufus. I fucking love that guy. IN a just world the future would be his shoe on a lot of little lefty snowflakes' faces for a few years.
It's a story I thought you guys would enjoy.
I liked the story. Both of my grandfathers were German and had personalities very similar. I don't know that they make them like that anymore
I just hope Nikki doesn't beat me up on the lazy spelling mistakes.
My Quantum Mechanics prof as an undergrad was an older Italian fellow. Wore three piece suits (Italian, of course), chain smoked through class, the whole bit. Elegant. Dignified. Unforgiving.
He actually hit me during an exam. He would never announce them, he'd just start the class with, "I think-a we gonna have-a test-a today." He'd walk around the room looking over your shoulder as you tried working the problems. I was scratching away at some eigenvalue problem or other and he started looking over my shoulder. Suddenly WHAM! on the back of my head. He indignantly yelled, "HEY, I NO TEACH-A YOU DAT!"
On topic, my grad school quantum chemistry prof used "fuck" as punctuation.
I wonder if such creatures still exist in schools today. I doubt they'd be tolerated.
We took the wham and didn't think twice about complaining or reporting it. Could you imagine a student today taking their lumps like that?
I look at it this way: I solved the problem. And it made me intellectually tougher. Sic transit gloria academia.
It's how I view the 'A' I got. I knew it was earned.
Did he hit you because you used a shortcut he hadn't taught? Or because you were getting it wrong?

I had this one professor who would take students back to his home and smoke pot with them.
Wait, maybe I saw that in a movie.
Those Canucks - that hoser and the administrators are stupid, like all eggheads.
Canada has too many Frogs if you ask me.
I mean, trigger warning.
"What they like about the class is they can ask any question they want, no matter how politically incorrect," he said."
Yep. There's the problem right there. Can't have that.
Not everyone who says that is *really* serious.
"Politically correct" to some people means "criticizing the other side's ridiculous views."
oops, politically *incorrect.*
I had a professor that would make sexual jokes in organic chemistry.
But he got a lot of grant money for the university so he wasn't disciplined or fired.
To be fair, all chemists have the sense of humor of middle schoolers when it comes to fucitol.
i had an econ professsor who gave us an exam that forced us to truely guess about the nature of a variable.
When several of us complained about the question he told us how he wrote the $100 text we had to buy for hs class and how much money he made consulting for fortune 500 companies.
That wrong guess I made cost me a grade point and if I had ever seen him after I was no longer a student I would have kicked his ass
That was 30 years ago and if I see that sum bitch i'm gonna......
"I've never been a big fan of showy college profs, the type what tries to infuse his (almost always a he in my experience) lectures with drama, comedy, and, more typically, a narcissism more commonly found among actors in dinner-theater productions.
-1 Dead Poet's Society
It's funny, because I really am torn on that movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and there is a quasi-libertarian spirit there. And I know it drove some cons crazy.
But at the same time, there is also that "throw the baby out with the bath water" proggie attitude. Starts with don't be afraid to do your own thing, but then smacks of tear the whole thing down kind of nonsense.
I gotta go with the libertarian spirit side. I still get a tear in my eye when I watch the rebellious end of that movie.
I know what you mean (Oh captain, my captain)
"At the same time, why shouldn't a school be able to say, "You know what, this sort of thing just isn't what we're about, so we're shutting it down"?"
Pluralism as an approximation to full freedom of association. It needs to be shown that sufficient alternatives are available, and additionally that changes in teaching philosophy and content are efficient (transaction costs, information costs) in t.
I am an engineer and had some demanding professors some easy professors, but no real great stories. But, FWIW:
My strengths of materials prof was Korean and had a pretty strong accent. It took me about three weeks to figure out "temple on the mountainside" had to do with yield strength of metals. (It was tempered martinsite).
My thermo prof was nicknamed "Smoking Joe Jannone": he would come in every day with a cig in his mouth, a cup of coffee in one hand, a doughnut in the other and his notes under one arm. Actually was a good professor.
Sorry not that amusing, but to my fellow techno geeks out there, thought you could relate.
*reads list. gets a case of the vapors. finds fainting couch.*
The applicant, to a linguistics Ph.D. program, was a student at a small religious college unknown to some committee members but whose values were questioned by others.
"Right-wing religious fundamentalists," one committee member said of the college, while another said, to much laughter, that the college was "supported by the Koch brothers."
The committee then spent more time discussing details of the applicant's GRE scores and background -- high GRE scores, homeschooled -- than it did with some other candidates. The chair of the committee said, "I would like to beat that college out of her," and, to laughter from committee members asked, "You don't think she's a nutcase?"
That is from a new book called "Inside Graduate Admissions". If I were someone who fit the description of that student, and there can't be many people who do, I would be hiring a lawyer and sending that author a subpoena wanting to know just exactly who those people were and then filing a lawsuit accordingly. Can you imagine those pompous assholes on the stand? It is the kind of thing that gives defense attorneys nightmares.
When I taught physics, I always tried to be entertaining and funny, but not in an overproduced Bill Nye bs sort of way. More just present the material in way the students can relate and don't be a boring dickwad. Let students discuss stuff (granted, I prob wouldn't get into trouble over something as controversial as Newtons Second Law of Motion, or indices of refraction).
Tangentially on-topic: New Study Indicates Existence of Eight Conservative Social Psychologists*
*clickbait, but not The Onion
I remember back when the Right grumbled about the explicit lewdity of university "human sexuality" courses, with the Left's reaction being to point and laugh at the stupid uptight right-wingers.
Now the Left has gone Full Victorian.
I am telling you. We certainly still have the socons out there in the Family Research Council and other righty prudes. But I think more and more people who normally consider themselves "conservative" are adopting a more live and let live attitude (except for where tax money is used, and they have every right to feel that way). Meanwhile the formerly everything goes left increasingly are the ones who want to crack down on porn and prostitution, are the ones pushing the positive consent bs, and in general seem to want to push things like public nudity (free the nipple stuff) precisely to desexualize people. Or they are all in favor of the burqa and hijab.
Back in the late 80s, at Penn State, they used to show porn movies every Friday night in a University building (The Forum).
It was a party and it was a blast.
I can't even imagine now.
Damn. That had stopped by the time I showed up at Penn State in the mid-90s.
Was Jerry Sandusky front and center?
No, he was fucking your dad.
FdA, when you started Penn State, did Penn State have the freshman orientation program? I think they called it FTCAP. If the did, did they include sexual assault awareness in it?
I just remembered something from my orientation and the sexual assault lecture.
A woman and a man gave the presentation. I think they were both students.
I was bored during the lecture and wondered when it would end. Then, a black guy asked a question. This guy fit the flaming gay stereotype to a T. He asked, "What about men being raped? Do men get raped?"
I remember the male presenter had an awkward look on his face and didn't say anything. The woman responded. I don't remember all the details of her response, but the black guy and her got into it. They spent about five minutes going back and forth. At one point the woman said, "Yes, men get raped and it's nowhere near as bad or as important as when a woman gets raped."
I went to a branch campus my freshman and sophomore years. We had some sort of orientation, as I recall, but I don't remember anything about sexual assault. Back in 1883, orientation meant "this is where the library is" and "here's the cafeteria".
1883. Hmm....
I'm really old.
Many conservatives are coming to realize, "Hey! We've drunk the progressive kool-aide!" when it comes to suppressing porn and prostitution. There's also the way traditional sex roles have become transgressive: "1950s household" is now a recognized thing in the BDSM community, for example.
What a fag...
I haven't read the comments yet. I will take a stab at this and betting someone else already has.
"...his higher-ups wouldn't say exactly why they were pulling the plug on him. Did students object? Other faculty? It's not clear."
Ten dollars to a hole-in-a-dohnut it has everything to do with this:
"...they can ask any question they want, no matter how politically incorrect," he said.
"And we will discuss it in a rational way, using data more than emotional argument, more than political correctness and more that just social agendas."
"And we will discuss it in a rational way, using data more than emotional argument, more than political correctness and more that just social agendas."
Or course that is the problem. This is a university not some kind of right wing militia meeting.
Ah, so Playa beat me to it.
Senor Chang from Community explaining the difference between "tu" and "usted."
I had a dinner-theater professor back in the day. He was incredible. His Intro to Ethics course was the most subscribed on campus, and his lectures routinely had dozens of people in the aisles every day, who attended just for the show. As years passed he got less ridiculous. I think i caught him in the middle of the curve, where he put on a "show" half the time, and gave straight lectures the other half.
While i can see how a lot of less-intelligent professors, or poorer-lecturers might use the 'showmanship' thing as a crutch, a Gallagher-style replacement for teaching, for him it was simply enjoying himself while he illuminated specific points.
Here he is commenting (more subdued) on the current fad of young people playing Social-Scold.
I had a British prof that would talk like that and he didn't ask anyone to sign no bloody fucking waiver. He was a database guy and he was telling us about the 'bloody fucking tape monkeys' they used to hire in Liverpool to replace the backup tapes at night. He also told us that America is doomed because we gave women the right to to vote. No one freaked out and there were several women in the class. Yes, believe it or not, back in the 80s and 90s people actually survived hearing bad language and offensive stuff.
Here's my oddball faculty story.
A professor asked a question. A guy in my class put his hand up to answer. The professor called on him. The guy got a frightened look on his face, and looked down at his textbook.
The professor said, "NO CHEATING! Oh, it's too late, you're already cheating. Continue cheating."
The class was silent for a minute or two as the guy read his textbook. He looked up and answered the question. He got the question wrong.
The professor then said, "You committed an unforgivable sin. You cheated. Then you compound your sin with an even greater sin. YOU CHEATED AND GOT THE WRONG ANSWER! If you cheat, at least have the decency to get the right answer!"
So how much mattress time would that result in for your average student today?
I'm in a good mood today. I'm not going to contemplate that because it will bring me down.
Good grief, check out these idiots:
Working Families Party
Working Families Party == I don't want to work and I want the government to give me your stuff that you did work for
" The party is controlled and funded by a board consisting of labor unions, such as the Service Employees International Union, and grassroots groups such as Moveon.org; its national president, a garrulous visionary named Dan Cantor, has a r?sum? that includes the Jesse Jackson presidential campaign and the now-defunct Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN."
The hard-left footsoldiers seem to fail to recognize that their own organization isn't ever going to be some grassroots counterpoint to the Tea Party when their very roots are based in entrenched, crony-union, bloodsucking-establishment politics.
i.e. they're not some rebellious left-wing... they're just the Non-Mask-Wearing part of the Establishment Left. The "Scumbag" political left. Young millenials might lean more-lefty-than-average, but they prefer the hopeless idealism of OWS rather than the pragmatic scumbaggery of Power-Politics union-cronies.
I just wish they'd stop referring to these commies and fascists as liberals. When did liberal start meaning statist authoritarian. Never once back in the 70s did I ever hear a hippy say 'hey, I'm a liberal so I want an authoritarian police state'.
yeah.
There's also this (typical) "Elitist Naivete" of thinking that What Works in a Liberal Hive-Mind will somehow succeed nationally
"'America's largest city has gone from being run by a billionaire mayor and a party-machine council to being steered by a progressive mayor and progressive-driven council. In place of debates between Republicans and timid, triangulating Democrats, the fight in New York is now largely between moderates and activists on the left. (Even de Blasio now finds himself to the right of the progressives on the council, particularly on criminal-justice issues.) This is what WFP would like to accomplish nationally'
Good luck with that.
(that they actually think Bloomberg was somehow a prototypical Republican Billionaire, and that the City Council is any less Party-Machine now is just amplification of their utter retardation)
They never reach peak crazy. What is crazy today is being kicked out of the party for not being crazy enough tomorrow.
They don't call them useful idiots for no reason. They don't even seem to care at all what the people do that they elect, they seem to only care about what they say. So they say 'I'm going to do all your insane left wing shit no matter what happens' and then proceed to keep doing what they do. Which is cronyism and corruption. Utter retardation is a good choice of words in this case for sure.
Working Families Party?
Does that mean they support child labor? I mean if it is a "working family", shouldn't the kids be getting off their asses and working too?
No, I think it means that they want their entire family to continue on generational welfare, but that they want MORE of your stuff.
So it really ought to be called the Families Working The System Party
B-b-but their name is Working Families! Apparently they think their whole family worked for it.
The issue here to me is consistency. I'm quite sure I would be offended by the simple existence of many of the PC Derp Tard bullshit classes offered at most colleges that counts towards a degree. Tough shit for me. If your going to allow pretty much anything to be taught as a field of study and almost any criteria no matter how ignorant to be in bounds then this guys licentious should be in bounds as well. I'm guessing if this was some "insert victim status here" studies professor there would not be a problem.
Universities are churning out huge numbers of young people with completely useless degrees, absolutely no useful skills to offer that would make them productive members of society, a heavily damaged emotional state and stunted adulthood due to years of coddling and PC indoctrination, along with huge student loans to pay off. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
Sympathy for the Devil in Cologne

The above discussion schooling makes clear who the empirical scientist is (me) and who the degenerate yokel scum are. Absolutely pwnd. Left with nothing but strawmen, hysterics, and pretend mind-reading as usual. I have to go to the lab to do some sciencey stuff. Crushing you people was a good warmup. Have a nice day apply some ice to the bruising.
Are you hearing voices inside your head again, kid? Just stay here for a while and keep talking to yourself, you'll feel better. One day, you'll grow up and join the adults in debate. Or maybe not.
Fortunately, evolution gets to decide this one (and it already gave us xenophobia for a reason). We'll see in a hundred years if the countries that think like Cyto or the countries that think like yokels are in a better position. Well, we personally won't, probably, but someone will.
As for me, I'm going to work on encouraging liberals to reaching magitech so they can build a giant portal from Hell to Earth. It's just a question of basic human compassion -- people are really suffering there!
*research
It also gave us a certain amount of xenophilia. Because wide-spread pathologic mandibular prognathism or Tay-Sachs disease isn't a path to evolutionary fitness.
Fair enough. Xenophilia is still normally the right approach. Its just idiots like cytotoxic who disregard the obvious exceptions to the rule.
Probably should have said "the capacity for xenophobia".
I'm not sure evolution would tell that. All that really rewards is the culture that has the most children.
Which Islam is built to do, with the 1 man having 4 wives and sending the excess men off to conquer new lands bit.
You're like the saddest of the sad IFLS retards. Only most of them don't bill themselves as "empirical scientists", so it's less embarrassing when they construct their entire worldview out of bias-confirming social science study executive summaries.
""It's also a tremendous recruitment tool. Students enjoy the fact that it says 'restricted' on the top. What they like about the class is they can ask any question they want, no matter how politically incorrect," he said."
"As consumers, we expect or even demand some kind of quality control for every burger we buy or car we drive off the lot."
So as consumers we should be able to "expect and demand" our expectations be met, except when meeting our expectations isn't approved by the Politburo?
We have to make sure your choices are good for you, for your own good.
Seems like the quality control part happens when people register for classes.
Oh, Canada.
Fuck college. Really. Fuck it. Fuck it live on broadcast TV at 5pm. Family hour. Go for it.
OMFG
The White House is rolling out a new low-income mortgage program that for the first time lets lenders qualify borrowers by counting income from nonborrowers living in the household. What could go wrong?
At least before the crisis, your income had to be your own. But now, as a renter, you can get a conventional home loan backed by Fannie by claiming other people's income. That's right: You can use your apartment roommate's paycheck to augment your qualifying income. Or your abuela.
You can even claim the earnings of people who are not occupants, such as your parents, under this program.
You don't have to bring much financial wherewithal to the table. You can even live in government-subsidized housing.
Just as long as you round up enough income-earners and pool finances to help meet the debt-to-income ratio of 43%.
http://news.investors.com/ibd-.....htm?p=full
It gets better.
To assure such high-risk borrowers understand the importance of making their monthly mortgage payments, Fannie requires mortgage lenders to ask HomeReady applicants to take a four-hour online course on homeownership.
Well, there you go. Good as gold.
Most troubling, Wells Fargo and other big mortgage lenders have already signed on. More will soon follow as the program rolls out in a big way through Fannie's automated underwriting system later this year.
A whole four hour course. What could go wrong?

Oh, FFS! "'Make your payment every month, or lose your house.' Please sign here to acknowledge indicate show you get it."

My thought was kind of like how your parents might cosign a lease when you get your first apartment out of high school. Except flipped, with the parents relying on the McDonald's paycheck of the kid living in their basement. What a brave new world.
How can you rely on income from someone whose name is not on the note? If your roommate won't pay his share of the mortgage, he is not out anything and the bank can't go after his income to collect.
These people really are retarded.
The federal government created this fucking mess with the obscene real estate value bubble. Back when I was in my 20s, your average working family could actually afford a home with no crazy affordable housing gimmicks. Now? Real income has hardly increased at all, while real estate prices are up 1000% or more. It's fucking insanity. There no way properties in states like Maryland are worth even half what they are selling for. If automobiles had increased in price the way real estate has, you'd be paying $150,000 for a used Toyota Corolla.
Piker.
When I teach Intercultural Pragmatics, I have a whole unit on comparative profanity.
I find it very interesting how profanity in a second language doesn't have the same emotional effect on you that profanity from your native language. I dates this Croatian chick in law school for a while. She and her sister used to fight like wild animals. You always knew the fight was serious when one of them went from English to Croatian. Calling one another a "bitch" in English was just fun and games. When one of them broke out the native tongue, however, things got serious.
Very true, and a known phenomenon. I remember reading a case study of a 2 Thai restaurant owners who had a young kid. The researcher observed the kid talking like a sailor in English in front of the parents who couldn't care less about what he was saying; however, when the kid gave even the most mild sass in Thai...well, watch out.
" comparative profanity."
I would love to see a "best of", most-creative examples of profanity across different languages.
I've always been impressed by Arab insults, for example. Unsurprisingly copious references to incest and bestiality. Also, just great conceptual imagery.
"Elif air ab tizak" = A thousand dicks in your ass!
I've always been amused by how much profanity falls flat when take out of it's cultural context.
You monitor lizard! (That's fighting words to a Thai)
You turtle! (That's the Chinese equivalent to motherfucker)
I know your sister! (It's understandable why this is profane in Arabic, but it just doesn't translate well to cultures where she could leave the house)
As an aside, "shit" doesn't translate well in to many cultures that haven't ascribed a vulgar sense to feces or defecation.
You monitor lizard!!
That is a great insult. I like the lists of Martin Luther's greatest insults that have been floating around. I imagine some of them sounded better in German or Latin than they do in English
16) "You vulgar boor, blockhead, and lout, you ass to cap all asses, screaming your heehaws."
Is one of my favorites.
You monitor lizard!!
Pronounce it like an old-timey northern New Englander would pronounce "here" and you're all set
I still don't understand why "Shoes" are the most insulting thing in the Arab world.
"I know your sister! (It's understandable why this is profane in Arabic, but it just doesn't translate well to cultures where she could leave the house)"
Yeah, the Arabs are batshit crazy about their women and their livestock. but i repeat myself.
""shit" doesn't translate well in to many cultures that haven't ascribed a vulgar sense to feces or defecation.'
I'd guess that Mongols(?) or any other people that use it for heating/insulation would be like, "hey man, Poop is some useful stuff"
I very much enjoyed the book "The Adventure of English" (Bragg?)... and if i recall correctly, it seems like a lot of our Cursing-Vocabulary in English was borrowed from Dutch sailors. Our fondness of the multipurposeness of "Fuck" at least.
For huge swaths of India and S.E. Asia as well. They all see the sole of the foot as the lowest and dirtiest part of the body, just as the top of the head is the highest and most special. Especially before daily showers were a reality, the bottom of the foot was pretty gross. Showing the bottom of your sole or dirty foot is hygienically, and even visually, the equivalent of giving someone the ol' Brown-eye.
"For huge swaths of India and S.E. Asia as well. They all see the sole of the foot as the lowest and dirtiest part of the body"
Yeah, that occurred to me, but with Arabs in particular... one, since the adoption of Islam, they wash their feet like, a lot, it would seem.... or at least 'as often as possible'. which was leading the world in hygiene at the time.
and then, is the desert really all that dirty? And these are the people who invented flip flops. Contra medieval Westerners, who were wrapping their dogs in non-breathing pelts, and developing some world-class foot-funk.... i'd think the sand-homies would have had soles to be comparatively unashamed of.
And then there's the fact that its *Shoes*, and not the feet that they find so offensive. I mean, if they said, "I rub my foot on your face", i'd get it. But they think the shoe is like extra-special nasty.
the multipurposeness of "Fuck"
Witness: "Fuck! Fuck that fucking fuck!"

This probably has already been talked about but this guy is making a game attempt at just having the Darwin Award retired in his name.
Its HMs favorite columnist as well
He may be an insufferable prick, but he can take comfort in knowing that he's no W. Kamau Bell.
Where do you FIND this shit? Are you a Collector of Retardation, always able to sniff out novel and rare stupidity, wherever it may be tucked away?
My battered fedora is tipped in your direction, sir.
At times, I think it comes to find me.
What if they gave a retard and no one came?
Why then, the retard would come to you.
W. Kamau Bell is a sociopolitical stand-up comedian and the host of the upcoming CNN original series "United Shades of America." He lives in Berkeley, California.
...oh.
Is there any market in which we can put shorts on human lives?
Don't they have death pool betting markets?
I dunno ? Ask Scott Weiland.
I hope he has family members or friends smarter than him who can talk him out of it.
The purpose of this is to get tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people praying.
Is that the problem with Syria? Not enough prayer?
Lol
Q) How do you tell the difference between an oral thermometer and a rectal thermometer?
A) The taste.
Canadian Prof Yanked
Nice, Nick.

The juxtapositions in that list are pretty amusing, and not for clear reasons. The placement of Solipsism, Shitface, and Satan in close proximity provoqued the strengest response in me, garring me even to laughter, stupidly. I have no idea why.
The inclusion of "punta" is curious, and would be curiouser if I hadn't run into numerous anglophonics that are apparently of the mind that this is an obscenity in Spanish. It strange that ignorance of the Spanish language amongst the English seems to get more pronounced the more Hispanos live in proximity. Further East, where one never hears folks chatting in Spanish, I used to meet English folk that knew all sorts of good Spanish and could curse each other to hell flawlessly in it. As I moved West, where there's more and more hispanos littering the ground, where one can hear folks chatting Spanish all the time, many for whom of which it is the mothertongue, so to speak, most anglophonics don't seem to be able to get out one word or phrase not totally fucked up and are igrunt of the commonest Spanish expressions. Then there's all the flipping euskaldunak, many of whom are actually fluent in Spanish, who will natheless insist they know nothing of the language.
I worked under a psychology professor for some time who used to do a routine in which he had some guy come in the classroom and fire a blank cartridge at him and leave. Afterwards the students was supposed to write a report describing what had happened. It was to demonstrate the effects of supersalient distressful stimuli on memory storage, that is, the altered arousal state in which memories tend to be stored with great vividness and accuracy or else a hotchpotch m?lange of random fucked shit that flew through the observer's mind, random associations with salient referents of the experience getting mixed in and replacing actual events.
It's also curious that strong language was here considered too much, whilst such courses frequently involve the torment and sacrifice of experimental animals and mutilation of their sad little dead bodies. Though perhaps that was only standard at the couple of psych depts I've known. One useful thing I learnt in that was that you've got to chill the corpse before trying to extract the brain. Before the proteins coagulate, it has no structural integrity and it's impossible to dig it out intact. Previously in my life I'd never had need of extracting an intact brain.
The most fucked up shit I've known in school, however, was the time I tried to take an English composition class. The fucking rules were insane. Never end a sentence in "et cetera", for one. And almost all common Latin or French expressions were banned as being "not English". When referencing another writer, one was required to refer to him by his full name first time and first name only therafter. And my pronouns was always wrong. I was actually expelled from that class after about two weeks, never getting better than 70% on any assignment. So I "challenged" the course and got a perfect score on the single paper required for that.
Fucked up shit as in weird rules. The worst class ever was like beginner's astronomy or something, in which everyone was required to introduce himself and say something he knew about astronomy. So my turn, I mentioned Vilenkin's ?ternal inflation theory, as I'd just read the paper a couple weeks before. The professor got really agitated, said what in hell could I know about that, said he actually KNEW Vilenkin, who did I think I was, and so forth, and then required that I explain, to his satisfaction, Vilenkin's paper to the other students in language permitting them to understand it. This was revisitted daily, and my attempt each time had some fatal flaw in his view, which he didn't really explain, but just made fun of, encouraging the other students in the same, which seemed very strange. Then he put up a page on the class website dedicated, more or less, to making fun of me, in which he'd place a brief notes deriding something about my language, dress, or anything, and students could add comments elaborating on why I was such a jerk. After a while of this he told me to withdraw or else he'd make sure I failt.
I didn't intentionally complain about any of this, but it happened to come up before another instructor in the lab, and I was made to give some kind of statement to some sort of jerkoff admin. The web page disappeared, and after a couple weeks I got a note from the administration saying it had been investigated and determined to be an honest misunderstanding. By then I'd withdrawn from the class. I later discovered that this professor was a close ally of the English professor whose class I could never pass. The latter enmity, I think, derove from my initial response paper which disagreed with the feminist ideology promoted by the reading. He actually seemed rather shocked, at first, that anyone would disagree, like it had never happened before.
I had a sort of similar experience much later in experimentism in which the professor took offense to a few reference I had made to papers by Sz?sz and totally fucked the course, causing it to take nearly a year and a half to complete, constantly sending my papers back for this or that meaningless thing like abbreviating the word "Annals" or using the word "entrainment" in reference to papers about entrainment, which had the word in their fucking titles, describing a breed of chickens with inadequate precision, and so forth. He also complained about me using the wrong "tense" whenever I employed the subjunctive mood. Oh, and using "long" sentences. I actually got marked off for that by a half dozen professors over the years. Throughout, he kept fucking my experimental designs, insisting on this change or that change, for no good fucking reason, until finally, the final project that met with his approval depended upon a design that was physicly impossible to perform.
Ultimately, with approval of department heads, I executed a variation that was actually possible, but so soon as it was writ up and submitted (after a month of careful observations, several hours a day), he rejected it on the basis it was not the approved, and impossible, design. And went so far as to say he would not even consider reading the paper. Throughout, I was rather mystified by the whole affair. In retrospect, however, I see that his hostility began shortly after a couple papers referencing Sz?sz, who I have since discovered pretty consistently provoques irrational hostility amongst psychs.
A more amusing anecdote was a professor of anthropology who arsked the class for their opinions in response to some crap about shifting the remains of ancient corpses stirring up the Indians' sorrow and th'animosity of their sort of dog god. I submitted mine. All were read by the whole class, in theory. Anyway, based on complaints from other students who had got offended (none of which were Indians by any stretch), mine was rejected, I was told to change my opinion and resubmit. Analingus: The forbidden fruit. Which turned this stupid little assignment into an opportunity for a much more extensive work of political commentary, which if anything was more critical and biting, with a special aim taken at the thinking behind the complaints. This was accepted. Probably, it occurred to him that giving me more of a platform to make an annoying prig out of myself was more trouble than he wanted to have to do.
I used to use the pull-string snapper firecrackers to illustrate the difference between power & energy, & also to wake up the students.
I like this guy. =D
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do..
