No Indictment in Tamir Rice's Killing, Voter Database Exposed Online, Puerto Rican Police Officer Kills Co-workers: P.M. Links
-
video footage A grand jury has declined to indict the police officer who shot and killed Tamir Rice, 12, who was carrying a pellet gun in a park in Cleveland, Ohio. A prosecutor called it a "perfect storm of human error." Yes, that was the prosecutor, not the officer's attorney.
- A computer security researcher found a database of personal information about 190 million U.S. voters exposed and open on the Internet.
- A police officer in Puerto Rico is in custody after taking three other officers hostage and fatally shooting them.
- Meadowlark Lemon, famed member of the Harlem Globetrotters, has died at age 83.
- Canada is expecting to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of February.
- Apparently Justin Bieber's label has decided the best way to publicize his new album in San Francisco is via spray-painted graffiti. The city is not happy, probably because it's yet another target for people to piss on.

A prosecutor called it a "perfect storm of human error."
A prosecutor who doesn't want to make our overcrowded prison situation worse.
2nd!
Hello.
How are you? It's so typical of me to talk about myself, I'm sorry.
1-888-252-6300. Unicef.org. Change a life Crusty.
At least I can say that I've tried to tell you I'm sorry for breaking your heart. But it doesn't matter, it clearly
doesn't tear you apart anymore.
No. They treat me well here. They control my suicidal tendencies with pills. Lotsa pills.
Crusty, since you appear to have been having trouble too: look here.
At some point I will stop being lazy and add auto-updates. Maybe.
I did that! Thank you again.
Updated to the latest version of fascr, or set "xpinstall.signatures.required" to false? The former is preferable, as the latter option is slightly unsafe and is slated to be removed from future versions of Firefox.
Maybe the prosecutor was referring to his own ineptness as 'a perfect storm of human error retardation corruption'.
It's perfect storms all the way up.
We need to find some incentive for prosecutors to do the right thing with regard to cases of police killing civilians.
A computer security researcher found a database of personal information about 190 million U.S. voters exposed and open on the Internet.
The DNC is already on it.
No doubt on a server housed in a bathroom in New Jersey. Like all good government computers and email accounts which are considered irrelevant by the New York Times.
Proof: There's no way 190 million Americans are actually voting.
At least MY data is safe.
Voter registration records are public information. You used to have a database of similar public information in convenient book form delivered right to your doorstep by the phone company. I'm not sure what all the alarm is here. Seems to me somebody was doing an inadvertent public service by collecting all this information in one spot.
Reality hits Chipotle. Hard:
"The company told Business Insider it may start scaling back on its use of local ingredients, as well, because smaller suppliers will most likely have difficulty meeting its new standards for food safety and testing."
http://www.sfgate.com/technolo.....722821.php
Yes, there's a reason we don't grow foods under piles of manure any more.
"The company told Business Insider it may start scaling back on its use of local ingredients, as well
as offering free Pepto-Bismol "margaritas".
I always wonder if people who think natural is healthier ever contemplate that, if truly natural, it means it was grown in shit. I don't think they do.
Natural and organic means Gaia kissed the sterile white package into being at the local grocery store.
Chipotle utilization of local ingredients is a fallacy - the narrative diverts focus from their nearly non-existent (for a chain of this size) quality and training programs.
Doing away with these pesky FDA regulations so that we can get beef tartare at the local farmers market will probably mean less vomiting and bloating.
On my wife's family farm in northeastern Thailand, I ate raw beef salad from freshly slaughtered cattle quite often. I would never think of doing such a thing in the States. The regulations, which are geared more toward factory farming, provide perverse incentives for farmers to keep their cattle less clean than your average 3rd World subsistence farmer would.
Contemplate that on the Tree of Woe.
So, AmSoc, is Chipotle in trouble because the FDA called them on a transgression of regulations, or is it because people got sick; the media broadcast these facts; and other potential customers voted with their pocketbooks?
As a typical statist, you can't imagine how standards would be maintained without government. BTW, have you ever heard of Deming, Juran, and the development of quality standards in the automotive industry? No government here, AmSoc. Government is out of its league when compared to the quality standards of industry. We're talking about customer satisfaction and cost containment. No government agency can even address these.
Socialism/Fascism/Corporatism is very old and obsolete, AmSoc. Get with the program and enter the twenty-first century.
There is no such thing, even in theory, as an unregulated free market. A society that is pure anarcho-capitalism would still have competition in the marketplace.

"Doing away with these pesky FDA regulations so that we can get beef tartare at the local farmers market will probably mean less vomiting and bloating."
Yeah those FDA regs really did the job here, didn't they?
What a fucking ignoramus.
Underfunded, understaffed, hamstrung by Republicans
take your pick
Yeah, if the socialists ever get into the White House........
Uh, wait....
The power of Republicans to obstruct is inversely proportional to their actual power. Don't you know that Detroit was utterly devastated solely because of the one Republican who sat on the city council in the last 50 years?
There's a reason McDonald's gets all its fries from one company. Rather than not putting all your eggs in one basket, they believe in putting all your eggs in one basket and then keep your eye on the basket. Local procurement means you're dealing with a hundred different little companies and practically guaranteeing that at least one of them you're not going to be able to keep a close eye on. You deal with one company and you can put your own guy inside to be looking over everybody's shoulder and making sure everything stays kosher.
That's why big government likes big business ? better to regulate a handful of large companies than deal with regulating millions of small companies.
Buzzfeed investigates the alt right, with help from Ken White:
We could teach them a thing or two here...
I'm disappointed Ken didn't use the "fucking goats ironically" line but I guess Buzzfeed is a "family website".
You read my mind.
"It's really hard to tease out the genuine white nationalists from the trolls."
And your point is ??
If you spend all day saying white nationalist things online but you claim you're doing it ironically, it's not clear to me what the difference really is.
The difference is, you're not a white nationalist?
Jeebus, Ken. Way to disappoint.
I thought he was being sarcastic.
Think again.
Come on, Nikki. Must I *always* use the "/sarc"?
Only when you're being meta-sarcastic.
😎
I thought he was being sarcastic.
Always a possibility. My sarcmeter never even twitched on that one, but they aren't infallible.
I mean, if you wander around fucking goats, does it matter to anyone that you're doing it ironically?
Thank you, I saw this referenced above and was out of the loop.
You've solved the Ship of Theseus paradox?
It works with motorcycles (except for the crankcase). The crankcase says 1952, so it's a 1952, with oversized pistons and valves, big cam, etc... Don't need turn signals, no air pollution inspection.
Interesting.
Or as the old rancher said: "I love this ax and have used it for 20 years. I have only had to put on three new ax heads and four new ax handles. This is a great old ax."
And here I thought Ken was a friend of the woodchippers.
Friend of woodchippers != friend of racists
I mean, I guess not everyone knows that these people routinely call Ken and people like him "cucks" for adopting nonwhite children. I don't think he appreciates that kind of shit very much, you know?
The instant anti-Semitic tweets the author received after the guy tweeted about her interview was not ironic. It is pathetic and boring.
Yep. Pretty much.
Popehat
?@Popehat
Inspired by alt-rights, complained to kids that I am a racial minority in my own house. They seemed unimpressed. I need a bunker.
Ah ha ha. I think Ken's got the right idea; there's no reasonable response to these people other than vicious mockery.
Correct. These fucking idiots don't deserve to be treated with any respect.
there's no reasonable response to these people other than vicious mockery.
they couldn't care less about vicious mockery, they crave the attention. Not every bit of idiotspeak requires a retort - ignoring it is often the cruelest response.
WHYCOME HE BES A FAGGOT CUCK
So I use a lot of hand lotion, what's the big deal?
So, Popehat comes out against satire? Because satire and trolling are about as different (if not less) than trolling is from sincerity.
Are you stupid or merely illiterate?
Trolling is making it look like you are for a bad position. Satire is making it look like you for for a bad position, but, at least when done properly (though it often isn't), going a little too far to seem sincere. However, due to Poe's law, you can't always be entirely sure.
So, fine, if you need me to be clear, then Popehat comes out against satire that can't be detected by everybody.
Ken's clearly not against satirizing these morons.
I would say it's the "all day" aspect that he's against. Also known as the "Jon Stewart Feint": spend 99.99 percent of your time spewing outrageously ideological half-truths and lies and when called on it, shrug your shoulders and say "It's comedy!"
I think that is the real situation, but the rule he sets up doesn't necessarily allow for it.
I'm not going to abide sloppiness just because I agree with someone's opinion on the subject.
I trust Buzzfeed to offer a fair and balanced appraisal to help inform the public.
hahahaha
A police officer in Puerto Rico is in custody after taking three other officers hostage and fatally shooting them.
Finally, a police officer likely to be prosecuted.
WAR ON COPS
Finally, a police officer likely to be prosecuted.
Yep. Good one, Fist.
Were procedures not followed?
The union manual clearly stated proper grievance procedures, and that, sir, was not it!
"The Sad Saga of the $70,000 Minimum Salary Company "
[?]
"You've got to wonder what was going through his mind when Dan Price, the founding CEO of Gravity Payments, decided to raise the minimum salary at his 120-person credit-card-processing company to $70,000 over a three-year period.
[?]
Price lost some of his best people over his move and I can see why. An entry-level new hire who just clocks in and out is suddenly making almost as much as a veteran supervisor who busted her hump for years only to be rewarded with a minuscule raise.
http://www.entrepreneur.com/ar.....yndication
Ah, the sweet smell of absolute equality; a failing company!
I'm sure Bernie Sanders will say this was a great idea that should be expanded elsewhere. Only problem at this company was, the right people were not in charge.
It's the same reason why local minimum wage laws fail workers: because businesses can pack up and move over one town. The solution is obvious: force everybody to the higher standard.
There's more to that story. Bloomberg recently reported the whole thing may have been a way for the CEO to avoid some legal problems after being sued by his brother and partner.
If that's true, he's a genius.
Regardless of the motives, the result is socialism in action! Failure...
Should have renamed it "The Twenty-First Century Motor Company" a la Atlas Shrugged.
Wait, Price failed to subvert human nature with his stunt?
Apparently Justin Bieber's label has decided the best way to publicize his new album in San Francisco is via spray-painted graffiti.
I don't think his tattoos are quite that bad.
This photo of his tiger and owl tattoos are evidence to the contrary.
A more enhanced photo of the tiger, owl, some sort of fish, and angel.
Jesus Christ, did he get those on spring break at PCB?
Those are fucking horrible
First approves of the tattoos. Think about that.
or First. Gosh.
Fist. That's it, I'm done!
I find ink vulgar.
Autocorrect - it's a batch.
Show some respect! I heard the guy who invented autocorrect passed away the other day. His funfair is next monkey.
Why does CJ have so many Justin Bieber close-ups available at a moments notice?
Did you make that up, or is that an email pass-around joke?
Either way, I'd like to steal it.
Ha, definitely not mine, heard it from my girlfriend who presumably got it from Facebook or something.
Great. Now Dunphy's going to be here to shit this thread up like he did to the main thread on that subject.
YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LAW SINCE YOU ARE SUBJECT TO A DIFFERENT TIER OF THE LAW.
Canada is expecting to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of February.
They're just itching for a wall built on their southern border, eh?
When the jihadists take over Quebec and we start bombing them, don't worry, the French Canadians totally won't hate us for the collateral damage. In fact, they'll love us even more than they do now. Murika, fuck yeah!
Resettle the refugees on Quebec. They don't speak French and it'll piss off the PQ.
Many of them do speak French; see below.
This is why Nicole is the worst.
Fun fact: Quebec has long prioritized immigration from many of these countries anyway, because many people there are (native) speakers of French.
Also they won't vote to separate.
Interesting. Thanks.
And they all seem to work at Bell, Videotron and Revenu Quebec.
Fun fact: They have settled in two parts of the city. Cote-des-Neiges and the east-end where Italians made their bones.
Never seemed that limited to me!
Italy tired of Brussels. Moves towards Russia.
http://rbth.com/international/.....sia_552147
Debt-ridden, corrupt-as-hell countries generally feel a more natural allegiance to Russia.
I believe the lawyers in hell will be sending you a cease-and-desist on your libelous language towards their client.
"Privacy regulations are required so a person's political information can be kept private and safe," said Jeff Chester, executive director of the Washington-based Center for Digital Democracy.

Canada is expecting to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of February.
Trudeau a secret Muslim?
Another nut punch for you.
The state Supreme Court set a high bar for citizens to prevail in lawsuits against government or police officials, with a recent ruling upholding the immunity of Concord police and the city of Concord in what the judges called "a close case."
The ruling last Wednesday stems from the 2009 arrest of John Farrelly by Concord police officers Walter Carroll and Eric Pichler after Farrelly allegedly sent a series of harassing emails to his ex-girlfriend.
The two arrested Farrelly on a charge of harassment. According to Farrelly's testimony, Pichler told him at the time, "This is what you get for f---- with a 30-year veteran of the Concord PD."
Later from the story:
Because the officers believed that the crime had occurred within the past 12 hours, they arrested Farrelly without a warrant. They were later informed by the county attorney that the statute cited in Farrelly's arrest had been ruled unconstitutional and the charges were dropped.
The warrantless arrest would have been legal only if Farrelly's conduct presented a "credible present threat" to his ex-girlfriend's safety.
"During his deposition, Pichler stated that the plaintiff was probably not a present threat to his ex-girlfriend," according to the ruling.
And:
The Superior Court judge agreed that the warrantless arrest was unlawful, but ruled that the defendants were immune from prosecution because the officers' actions, while possibly negligent, were not "wanton or reckless."
Farrelly appealed to the state Supreme Court, which upheld the lower court ruling granting the officers and the city of Concord immunity.
I think Canada is playing games. The refugees are Armenian Christians. Will be interesting to see who exactly are let in.
http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/r.....-1.2697670
What, you didn't hear about the latest ISIS plot, to have their insurgents pose as Armenian Christians?
They are supposed to LIE you know!!!?!
/shits pants, faints
Oh, that's interesting. That certainly rises to the level of inconvenient fact. Thanks, Rufus.
That doesn't mean they aren't Syrian refugees.
Fuck. Off.
A prosecutor called it a "perfect storm of human error."
Out here in the real world, "human error" that results in somebody bleeding out is called "manslaughter".
Higher standards you know.
Sovereign citizen scare story
In June, police showed up at Norman Raddatz's door to arrest him on a criminal harassment charge involving an ongoing anti-Semitic hate crimes case.
When they tried to enter, Raddatz fired more than 50 rounds from a high-powered rifle inside his home, killing one officer and wounding another, authorities said. After the shooting subsided, the house burst into flames, and Raddatz's body was later found in the charred remains.
Raddatz was described as a sovereign citizen, and the incident compares with a number of other violent confrontations involving sovereigns over the past year.
Except that it occurred in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
See, White Nationalist Terrorism is spreading. It's now international. And still a white male, I bet.
A prosecutor called it a "perfect storm of human error."
"What can you do?" he asked. "Shit happens."
The legal term for "oops, my bad".
Bernie sanders makes a play for racist Donald Trump voters.
Bernie sanders is a racist
You just have to read between the text that is in between the text to find this obvious appeal to people who hate Mexicans.
Covered earlier. In fact, there's a whole thread on that.
"Covered earlier. In fact, there's a whole thread on that."
You expect a commie bastard to do homework?
Not wanting Mexicans here illegally ? "hating Mexicans."
Good luck getting him and 'plug to believe that. I don't want no Brits here illegally, either.
I love Mexicans, when they're in Mexico. Heck, I even don't mind ISIS supporters, when they're in ISIS land. (Well, except for the murdering and sex-slaving and archeology-destroying stuff.)
I know. However, Saying that Mexican immigrants in Southern California might depress the wages of low-skilled workers in that area is an obvious appeal to Trump voters in the KKK. Bernie Sanders=Donald Trump
Supply and demand does apply to low-skilled labor, whatever the open-borders types try to tell you.
"Supply and demand" also applies to the products of "low-skilled labor", and every other market, because it's an immutable principle of economics and not a magic totem to be thrown around whenever convenient
Just in case you thought there was any sanity or shame left in this administration: State Dept. counts 'bringing peace' to Syria as a 2015 win
I noticed Rand Paul signs and bumper stickers popping up in southern NH. I count more Rand Paul signs than Trump and Clinton signs and bumper stickers combined.
Ron Paul had billions of signs and stickers, and not much else.
There is an intentional community of libertarians in NH, so not really surprising.
I think a lack of Trump signs and stickers means little. I think he'll be the prime example of the "shy Tory" syndrome this election: he has a lot of support from people to embarrassed to admit it. I am seeing lots of anecdotal reports of Democrats who are going to vote for him, but won't admit it publicly.
I am seeing lots of anecdotal reports of Democrats who are going to vote for him, but won't admit it publicly.
Union blue-collar types, right? Most of them probably won't admit that in the polls, either. We might be in for a rude awakening in November.
I agree that this is the direction things seem to be going. Brown people are scary, and one man is fighting to save us from the brown people.
No, I think Trump could well revive the whole "Reagan Democrat" thing. Wayne Root: Donald Trump Can Win New York State
Crazy or genius?
I think a lack of Trump signs and stickers means little.
I think it means nothing, because he doesn't have the ground organization that produces and distributes these things.
As they should be.
I've noticed a depressingly large amount of Bernie signs as well....
Strangely enough, I've only seen a handful of Bernie stickers. No Bernie signs. I have seen Bernie rallies though.
I've been sort of betting that Rand comes in second in NH and the media suddenly sits up and takes more serious note of him.
Then he'll do something stupid and fade back into obscurity. But i think he's always been destined to do well in one of the early primaries.
Where's the next Richman article? I really need some argument over semantics and appeal to obscure Victorian political terms because he isn't a reactionary.
Congratulations! You whined! And you thought you couldn't do it.
DAMN YOU REASON!
Meadowlark Lemon died and you didn't report it? I hope you don't disrespect Lou Reed this way when he dies.

...?
I was just being a...whatever.
By the way, I honestly missed that. I glanced over the links as I worked.
CAN WE MOVE ON?
George Clayton Johnson, Ellsworth Kelly, and Haskell Wexler didn't get mentioned, either.
Wexler is no longer medium cool.
He's now positively cold.
I remember my dad taking me to see them as a kid. Great show. Halftime was cool too. A couple Chinese ping pong players and some contortionist who could sit on their own head.
Someone completely missing the point
TRIGGER WARNING: VOX
http://tinyurl.com/p9y76je
Police are supposed to catch black people on fire? That doesn't seem like a good solution.
SINCE YOU CANT ARTICULATE ANY ACTUAL REASONS BEHIND YOUR FEEL-BASED POLITICS, HERE'S A FUCKING CARTOON TO USE TO STRAW-MAN YOUR OPPOSITION'S POINT
/Vox
Of course, if I say "all lives matter", I mean "water damage an undamaged house while another one burns down".. Don't you?
So who's the firefighter in the analogy?
I thought "white knighting" was extremely problematic. Now this cartoon implies that we should all be "doing something" on behalf of black people, because their lives matter particularly?
I'm confused.
doing something should be emphasized, not in scare quotes
Wait, if the fire is an analogy with police brutality, then the white guy's house shouldn't be on fire at all, since everyone knows the police handle white suspects with kid gloves.
/sarc
Oh, wait, the white guy's house *isn't* on fire. Or at least it isn't now that it's been hosed down.
I guess the bottom line is we're not supposed to try and figure out the meaning of the cartoon, we're just supposed to be OUTRAGED!
Oh' Chicago and America
The COPs are now shooting the neighbors and kids with toy guns.
You know who is to blame:
The BLACK people calling the POLICE on other BLACK people. THis happened in this case and in yesterday's chicago shooting.
As for the Cops shooting 1st and asking questions later, that's par for the course.
The officer responsible for the shooting is now on Paid Vacation and will be cleared on this...as always.
I doubt the person who called the police intended for Rice to get shot. But if the caller knew that Rice had a "toy gun", then why didn't he or she confront him directly before calling the police? "Hey, young man, that gun looks realistic and you could get hurt if someone mistakes it for the real thing." If he tells you to fuck off, then wash your hands of it. I don't know what calling the police was supposed to accomplish, given the facts at hand.
I can't fault a person for calling the cops to "fix" an obviously dangerous situation, because that is after all their fucking job. They have to learn their mistake somehow.
Dude that makes no sense at all man.
http://www.GoneAnon.tk
Yeah. I'm hearing families are asked to sponsor family members.
Like I said, the Liberals are doing their best impression of conservatives. They know this is a delicate issue.
I don't know how it works in Canada, but in the US, all refugees are "privately" sponsored. That is, the Federal government grants them refugee status, but 1 of 9 voluntary agencies or VOLAGs do the sponsorship. Sponsorship meaning that the agency is legally and financially responsible for the refugee. Since the US Office of Refugee Resettlement provides the VOLAGs with some funding, with the agency expected to raise the rest of the funds, the best descriptor would be private-public, but as far as I know there is no purely public refugee resettlement program currently operating in the US.
Shudder.
I need a drink.
Fuck.
I saw a car the other day that had fairly large stickers with one word or name for each sticker scattered all over his passenger rear quarter panel which was different. "what really happened to Sandra Bland and" some other name as well, I dont recall who now. Probably like 4" by 8" white stickers with bold black letters on them.
A giant anthropomorphic hamster?
I don't visualize a Bernie voter as actually owning a car.
Or bathing.
You got me.
Or thinking.
In Hawaii there are many "Feel the Bern" bumper stickers and t-shirts.
