Joe Biden announced he would not be running for president.
So a deal between Obama and Hillary has been reached.
Hello.
"The Vatican has denied a rumor that Pope Francis has a brain tumor."
Not to sound disrespectful but it *would* or *could* explain a lot. No one of sound mind can be a commie.
Or a conservative. Or believe that there is such a thing as "limited" government.
Or believe an invisible man in the sky knows everything we do, has a master plan that is billions of years old....yet still needs our money!
You Know Who Else said that religious belief and/or any sort of disagreement was due to insanity?
Me, in my darker and more cynical private moments?
Or believe an invisible man in the sky knows everything we do, has a master plan that is billions of 6,000 years old....yet still needs our money!
FIFY
Building infinite universes isn't cheap.
"Or believe that there is such a thing as "limited" government."
Just pretend that those hundreds of years of history never happened.
While you pretend that the democide of several hundred million people never happened.
DERP DERP I'M PRETENDING TO BE PROFOUND /LM
Woah, I guess I haven't been reading the right history books.
Libertymike must be attributing the deaths of hundreds of millions to the countries that purportedly had "limited government", and not to the totalitarian commie/fascist regimes, etc.
So which "limited government" country killed all those hundreds of millions, LM?
On a separate issue, I actually think the US had limited government through much of its history. Hard to say when it was really killed off and became a plenary central government. Probably during the New Deal?
I'm tempted to go as far back as trustbusting. I think TR was the one who broke the seal.
I think TR was the one who broke the seal.
Or Lincoln.
R C, the point is that there are no "limited" governments and any asseveration to the contrary is flag waving ejaculate.
Do you honestly think that the US and Britain have not engaged in democide?
The US has never really been a limited government. It was red from the start.
If you are for limited government, you do not secretly convene a gathering of those who want a strong central government with the purpose of creating a bigger, better version of English mercantilism.
How about the suppression of the Whiskey Rebellion?
How about the Alien & Sedition Acts?
How about the forced repatriation of native americans?
The failed invasion of Canada?
The constant caging and looting and murdering and raping of native americans?
How about slavery?
How about the Fugitive Slave Act?
How about Abe Lincoln's mass murdering ways?
How about the Slaughterhouse cases?
How about the Sand Creek Massacre?
How about Wounded Knee?
How about the attack on Black Kettle's village on the Washita?
How about the construction of the Transcontinental Railroads?
How about the invasion of the Philippines?
How about the brutal slaughter of Philippinos, with some estimates being that over a million people died as a result of the US involvement there?
How about Plessy v. Ferguson?
How about Sparf case?
How about the creation of national banks? The Fed?
How about the income tax?
All of the above questions pertain to times well before the New Deal.
Is your argument good for anything other than moral-posturing?
No. Nothing LM does is any good at all.
Utilitarianism for the *barf*
"Utilitarianism for the *barf*"
It just that i find the whinings of people who suggest there's "No difference" between any state, and that the US is somehow "just as bad" as any other in history is some meaningless a-historical idiotic bullshit that serves no purpose other than for anarchists to stroke their egos.
its also done to perpetually derail every debate into Minarchist/Anarchist quibbling, where said ego-strokers feel most comfortable, because they get to feel special advocating a morally-pure position which is entirely untenable in lived reality.
I'd say post-Civil War, the 1870s and 1880s. That's when minimum wage laws, occupational licensing, and (I think) zoning all began, with the legal fig leaf of protecting public health and safety but with the actual (and commonly stated) reason of keeping the freed blacks from competing with honest white folk.
The US Navy started on its road to empire by building modern and unnecessary warships in the 1880s.
Progressives got their start then.
I see LM got in a big list. While it's easy to say the US govt was never limited in any real sense, and use the fact that it didn't really change much until the 1913 Fed and income tax to support that it was never limited, the Civil War changed a lot of things and government didn't really go balls to the wall on mucking around in daily life until then. Before then it was ordinary stuff, like building canals and starting petty wars.

He just couldn't do it. He just couldn't do it.
Maybe she'll keep him on as Veep. Which would be great, actually. Once Clinton and Biden are safely elected, Obama could allow the DOJ to move forward with prosecuting Hillary.
Finally, some Hope and Change.
Michigan's governor, Republican Rick Snyder, signed a bill introducing modest reforms to the state's asset forfeiture laws.
So it will be a little easier but probably no less expensive to get your stuff back when they steal it?
Michigan State stole that punt and returned it... for a touchdown.
I still don't know if it will be any easier.
Asset forfeiture classically requires that the owner act as the plaintiff and prove that the property isn't guilty of any crimes. Has that changed in Michigan? Because if not, this is pure eyewash.
Today is the day on which the events of Back to the Future II happen.
Spoiler alert.
If Doc and Marty travelled to the future, why wouldn't they have known that baseball would expand its playoffs not once, but twice, thereby missing the date that the Cubs would prevail?
No true Cubs fan ever calls the team "The Cubbies", at least not fans over five years old.
Um... I'll agree with no sober fan.
Thanks. Gosh, do I miss him.
Clearly, the Department of Education needs more power:
You know who else monitored institutions of higher education for extreme political bias?
Sen Joe McCarthy?

English also needs to be the official language.

And, Glen Beck liked his Dept of Ed idea.
Of course. They are all statists. They can't wait to get power, so they can harass their enemies.
An intruder with a hatchet broke into a Planned Parenthood clinic in New Hampshire, destroying medical equipment, computers, plumbing fixtures, and phones. Police say they apprehended a juvenile inside the building.
If only their was a pill that would have done the job for him.
Now they need an intruder with a bucket and a mop.
"New data from the Large Hadron Collider could produce evidence of mini-black holes, which would suggest the presence of parallel universes."
Does anyone know if this is actually true, or it if is in the same vein as the star with the weird light patterns being evidence that could suggest an alien race (instead of you know a dust cloud).
the presence of parallel universes
"Hey, Domtar, let's see what's playing on that Earth universe."
Five billion universes and nothing good on.
This is true. When the LHC is operated at 13 TeV (I believe is the level), phenomenon such as "mini black holes", which occur mathematically around 9.5 TeV, could be revealed by the decay of certain subatomic particles.
Not that we can get to another universe, merely that some aspects, of some theories in support of general relativity will be confirmed, telling us we are on the right track for further investigation.
Anything that evaporates can be distilled. Black Hole Gin, the event horizon is only a bottle away...
and No Morning After.
Where we're going, you won't need mouths to drink it!
When do we get to visit the parallel universe with the bronze Statue of Liberty and dirigibles, which has the saucy sexpot redhead version of Olivia Dunham?
This is as close as it gets... sorry
Is mini-black a synonym for gray?
Actually, the preferred nomenclature is little person of African-American descent.
We're gonna need crowbars and lots of 'em.
It is experimental evidence for theory that also predicts parallel universes. So it is more than blind peculation like that star thing.
I don't know if anyone has suggested a way to get direct experimental observation of a parallel universe, though.
The link is poorly written and I'm too lazy to read the real link at Phys.org. They're talking about modulation of the force of gravity depending on the energy of the particles involved, so the threshold for energy density to curve space enough to close on itself is lower. But the article then goes on to say that the 5.3TeV they've been looking at is too low and needs to be higher, so what happened to the "needs less energy density" part of the theory?
And this isn't Many Worlds. Basically they're saying that the existence of higher dimensions could be inferred from a lower energy requirement.
The Vatican has denied a rumor that Pope Francis has a brain tumor.
God would never let that happen.
The OT God might.
There is a god of off-topic posting?
Yes there is. And his name is Longtorso.
Morty, look, lo- *burrrrrp* -ok at these silly people just discovering this. It's crazy, Morty!
So I'm not the only one that loves that show. Too bad its freaking forever before the third season.
Could be worse. Venture Brothers is about to get a new season after something like 4 years, and Boondocks had a similar hiatus.
Wait, there are people don't love Rick & Morty???

It's not much of an article.

Good one.

"'An intruder with a hatchet broke into a Planned Parenthood clinic in New Hampshire, destroying medical equipment, computers, plumbing fixtures, and phones.'"
Perhaps they can sell the various parts which are still of use to any interested buyers.
"Luckily, no children were hurt."
Evidently, not all of the useful parts will be available.
So will people now stop pretending that Back to the Future II is not a total bore and the least fun movie in the series? The last month has been baffling.
You misspelled "III".
I (greater than) III (greater than) II
yeah, I think III is far worse than II
III was fun. All the Despotic Biff stuff was a chore.
You know who else thought being a despot was too much of a chore?
Little Bill?
John Boehner?
III was fine II sucked.
Meh, they all sucked. Most time travel movies suck.
Yeah, the Old West, steam punk shit was tiresome even then.
New data from the Large Hadron Collider could produce evidence of mini-black holes, which would suggest the presence of parallel universes.
So get your 3D printed weapons ready in case this provocation into a parallel universe stirs hostile creatures from the third dimension to cross over into our realm.
It already happened, but they were all swallowed by a small dog.
An intruder with a hatchet broke into a Planned Parenthood clinic in New Hampshire, destroying medical equipment, computers, plumbing fixtures, and phones.
You would think someone working at *Planned Parenthood* would have been able to take this guy out.
They don't plan that far in advance.
"An intruder with a hatchet broke into a Planned Parenthood clinic in New Hampshire, destroying medical equipment, computers, plumbing fixtures, and phones. Police say they apprehended a juvenile inside the building."
American Taliban! Hatchet? Stupid kids these days don't even know proper vandalism. Take a baseball bat next time.
Do not care.

I suppose you didn't care about 1984 as well.
I'm waiting for Blade Runner. That happens in four years.
It always kills me when people got all ultra-futuristic about 30 years in the future.
30 years isn't all that long of a time, people.
I mean Minority Report takes place in the 2050s (I think) and they went overboard too with the stupid megaroads, etc. I'm sure we'll be laughing about it then. Well, I for one plan to be around then anyway.

White Feminist Fatigue Syndrome
Maybe it's because I just finished going through 500 pages of discovery, but that makes no sense.
No, it's not you. The author is just not a clear writer. She's got a bad case of using big words to try and make a work sound more intelligent.
I actually see that with a lot of people.
I used to do it to make writing lab reports less boring (they were lab reports for the sake of learning how to write lab reports, not because anyone actually needed to find out what data I collected), but I never understood the inclination to write that way when I'm trying to convince someone. If I want you to convert to my point of view, the very first thing I need to do is make sure you understand what my point of view is.
That paragraph also suffers from an acute shortage of periods and capital letters.
Jeebus, people. Your IQ isn't determined by how long a run-on sentence you can barf up.
something something intelligence something express complex scenarios using simple ideas.
Is the material responsive to your discovery requests? Anything good?
It was basically several hundred pages of "fuck you."
This is great. Really great.
Dear god, that woman does not know how to write a clear sentence to save her life. If I'm translating her idiotic jargon and convoluted style of writing, I think she's bitching that white feminist are starting to trumpet issues she claims black feminist did first. Bloody hell, would it kill them just to say that.
OMG, that is soooo racist to correct her English.
That was a bit of snark, btw.
Don't worry. It came through loud and clear.
No, they're complaining that despite a long history of nonwhite feminist thought, white feminists continue to ignore it:
"Hush up, Shaniqua = your betters are talking"
Don't worry. The Emoji translation will be out soon.

I hope no one will suspect me either of institutional bias (for Denise) or institutional nostalgia (for Brenna) if I register my congratulations on a cogently, powerfully written piece. This is the most thought-?provoking reply to Fraser I've read so far.
"
It appears to me that "intelligence" is often just something that communities use to describe things that reflect their own intensely-held, irrational beliefs back at them.
While I would not want to call anything about that column well written or intelligent per se, it is not irrational to claim that the types of feminism favored by white feminists are less hostile to global capitalism than are the types of feminism favored by black and third-world feminists.
I didn't really read the article (except a few paragraphs to get an idea of the writing style) =
i was just reacting to the people "praising" its eloquence, when in fact its mostly the kind of word salad you'd expect from a college sophomore.
My point was that, to certain people, they'll read that and go, "Wow, what excellent stuff" ...
...because their standard for what makes 'good writing' is often its very incoherence, or the way it ensures to stuff all the right terminology or political-views into every paragraph, regardless of how tangential or barely relevant it is to the core point.
Good writing should be simple and clear. Others seem to not think so at all.
That is fo sho.
As a Pynchon fan, I disagree.
I imagine lots of third world feminists are the "want clean water" type.

You need a globe. All is clear when you have a globe. Or read the article, I guess.
IRAN = Hurry Up and Give Us Our Nukes Already
"Iran said this month it had tested a new precision-guided ballistic missile. The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, has said that the medium-range missile was capable of delivering a nuclear weapon.
...Ballistic missile tests by Iran are banned under a 2010 Security Council resolution which remains valid until a nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers is implemented.
Under that deal, reached on July 14, most sanctions on Iran will be lifted in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. Once it takes effect, Iran will still be "called upon" to refrain from any work on ballistic missiles designed to deliver nuclear weapons for up to eight years."
I'm sure Iran will be far more respectful of New Agreements than they were of the Old Agreements.
Especially when the burden will be on the imposition of new sanctions rather than mere maintenance of existing ones.
Bank's severance deal requires IT workers to be on call for two years
SunTrust Banks in Atlanta ... requires terminated employees to remain available for two years to provide help if needed, including in-person assistance, and to do so without compensation.
Fuck off, slavers?
Yeah. I'm going to move my account somewhere else.
Fuck SunTrust. I lived in Atlanta about 17 years ago. Got a temp job Via Kelly Services. First week's pay and no bank account yest so I endorsed it to my rich, MBA sister who banked at SuTrust. They would not cash it until we provided a shit-ton of documentation. It was for like $123.50 and my sister had loads of money in her accounts. Assholes.
The bank says otherwise at the bottom of the article.
And... "severance" implies money changing hands. How is that not compensation?
The bank doesn't actually say otherwise if you read it closely.
They just say they've never used it to make someone come in to help with the daily chores.
If you think about it (and I'm not saying SunTrust has) the last thing you want to do is piss off an ex-IT employee, make them come in, and give them access to your system.
Of course. The idea is stupid on its face. I work in IT. When we let someone go, they are done. Immediately. Locked out of the system and never heard from again.
Nope. Keep paying me. I'm not signing that and I'll show up tomorrow.

Libya is a fucking disaster, and the US (via Hillary) helped make it happen
Oh, and Iraq too
.... and of course Yemen. Really, just name any country where the US had a "Policy" over the last decade.
There is no reason to believe Yemen would be better off if America hadn't bombed AQAP.
"Really, just name any country where the US had a "Policy" over the last decade."
There's a question of cause and effect here.
"if America hadn't bombed AQAP."
Your insight is always super-on-point and 100% aware of what's being talked about
"This marginalization of Yemeni civil society ? which had struggled for so many months nonviolently for democracy ? and Washington's failure to accept the broad-based National Council to head an interim government created the conditions that led to the dramatic resurgence of the armed Houthi uprising, which until last year had only operated in the Zaydi heartland in the far northern part of the country."
The writer conveniently forgets this nation called "Iran" which probably has a lot more relevance to the current Yemen war than America's half-assed limp efforts there.
Keep trying Gilmore maybe one of these days throwing links at the screen without thinking critically about that they say will work for you. Or not.
Also, last I checked, Somalia is not worse off for America having a policy there.
"without thinking critically about that they say"
You don't seem to grasp that the leader we supported in Yemen was thrown the fuck out.
You don't seem to have the slightest understanding of the topics you offer Decisive Opinion about.
"You don't seem to grasp that the leader we supported in Yemen was thrown the fuck out."
I am highly aware of that, which kind of just makes this attempt to pin another crappy country's problems on America all the sillier.
None of your articles support the point that America is the reason Yemen's a mess. You don't understand how burden of proof works. I have a better understanding of these topics than you simply because I can read and think at the same time. It's a Master of Science thing I guess.
"None of your articles support the point that America is the reason Yemen's a mess."
Yes they fucking do. If not "the reason" (your words), probably the most significant reason.
'I have a better understanding of these topics than you "
Everything you say having to do with international relations is a stream of one-dimensional idiocy. its your calling card, second only to your atrocious taste in film.
What you think a "master of science" has to do with foreign affairs is beyond me.

The young couple from France have had all of their pricey treatments and operations funded by their willing parents.

I think "Barbie" is too busy inflating her chest to notice how gay her boyfriend is.
Perhaps the parents should have thought of not making those nuts in the first place.
She doesn't look like Barbie.
Do other people think they look at all like the dolls? Whatever happened to that guy's upper lip does not seem Ken-like to me.
How far is Ken really willing to go to be just like the doll?

It's all over when Barbie meets GI Joe.

And I thought Barbie was blonde. She could have saved a lot and just gone for some hair bleach and gotten much better results.
It's not just you.
" do lip-jobs (or whatever you call it) always look like shit?"
its so hideous i'm genuinely surprised children don't burst into tears and run screaming from anyone they see like that.
They're horrible.
Climate Change Could Destroy the Global Economy in a Most Terrifying Fashion
You may be under the impression that you have already been deluged with all of the projections about the bad things climate change will do to the world in the next century. Not so. It could be worse than you think.
A new study from professors at Stanford and UC-Berkeley uses historical data to examine the effect of rising temperatures on the economic performance of countries around the world. They find, in short, that if the projected temperature rise by the end of this century comes true, the results will be economically catastrophic?much worse than formerly thought, especially for people in poorer, warmer countries. Global inequality, in other words, could be exacerbated to an unthinkable degree.
Also, everyone will need to learn new zip codes and their sexual organs will no longer function.
That sounds more terrifying.
Yeah, I like my zip code.
I don't know about that, but trying to do something about it surely will.
Bring it on.

So what they are saying is that due to negative feedback, it's a self-correcting problem. Sweet.
Wait, haven't they been telling us that today's climate change is unprecedented, at least in historic times?
if that is so, where are they getting relevant data? Also, air conditioning is a thing now.
I was just thinking that you could make a little pocket change writting a book about climate change by just going over the top with your predictions. Nobody ever fact checks your work - no reason to worry about that happening since the media has your back. Just make it worse than anything written so far...
...and it seems rather obvious that I'm not the first one with that idea and it pretty much explains how we got where we are on this issue.
One bit of good news from Canada's election: Julian Fantino lost his seat. This guy thinks that legal MJ would be a boon for organized crime and that is the very smallest reason why he's vile. I could break this page with the bullshit regarding New Caledonia if I wanted to.

Every pattern in existence has been argued with thousands of times already. The pattern is used to words; it's callused to words, numb to words. Words are the least effective contradiction.
