New Zealand has banned its first book in 22 years, following a complaint from a conservative group that the book contained sex and drug use. Individuals caught selling Ted Dawe's award-winning Into the River face fines of up to New Zealand $3,000 and companies face fines of up to $10,000.

    I remember a Kiwi back in the early nineties accusing the US of being a puritanical nation. Same for the Limeys. According to them the US was filled with religious superstition and banning books was evidence of our backwardness.
