Senior Commerce Official Saw Nothing Wrong With Bringing Home Seven Government Computers for Her Kids to Watch Porn On
She's still working for the federal agency, obviously.

An unnamed senior official with the U.S. Commerce Department took home at least seven government computers that she rarely used for business, instead letting her children use them to do things like watch porn and download "racially offensive materials," according to an investigation from the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of the Commerce Department. The OIG also found evidence she falsified her time records and attempted to retaliate against an employee she believed helped with the investigation.
The OIG was tipped off by a whistleblower alleging that a senior official "engaged in a number of acts constituting waste of government resources and/or fraud," according to the office's report, which uses feminine pronouns "for all individuals in this report to protect their identity." Apparently, bringing home two desktop computers, three laptops, and at least two iPad tablets didn't raise any red flags in her department.
After an investigation, the OIG determined that:
… Senior Official misused government computer equipment, including permitting members of her household to access and use such equipment, which resulted in inappropriate use of such equipment to view and/or store pornographic, sexually suggestive, and racially offensive materials.
Additionally, the investigation uncovered that, for a period of approximately six months, Senior Official maintained no less than seven government-issued computer resources at her private residence, including two desktop computers, three laptop computers, and at least two iPad tablets, suggesting she was, at a minimum, indifferent to her obligation to conserve government property and resources.
She also stored thousands of personal photographs on the devices and had installed various gaming software. The employee told OIG she didn't think she was doing anyting wrong, as "outside of a work capacity, which is outside of telework time, or other time that I'm working … there's no policy specific to personal use outside of government time." When asked whether she found it appropriate to access and download porn on a government-owned computer, she said wasn't aware her children were doing that but also didn't think doing so was "anything inappropriate" based on what she knows about Commerce department policy.
Investigators also found that one the tablets taken home "appeared to have been remotely erased," as well as "credible evidence that Senior Official's belief that one of her subordinates cooperated with the OIG's investigation was a significant factor in Senior Official's proposal to take disciplinary action against the subordinate." Evidence also cast "doubt on Senior Official's time and attendance claims. For example, on at least one occasion in July 2014, Senior Official claimed a full eight-hour day of telework when, in fact, the evidence suggests she likely worked for a substantially shorter period of time that day— as little as twenty minutes."
The OIG can merely recommend action. Its tepid conclusion: "the Commerce Department "should consider taking appropriate administrative action with respect to Senior Official" and "the office that issued government-owned computer devices to Senior Official should evaluate and make appropriate changes to its policies concerning requests for government owned equipment to be used at home, as well as evaluate its personal property record keeping." Commerce spokeswoman Areaka Foye-McFadden said in a statement: that the agency takes the allegations and the OIG's recommendations seriously and is "in the process of evaluating all appropriate action."

I would expect that from a fed employee
Of course. They are all Top. Men. after all.
Obviously a top Hillary disciple.
... and commoner American would be ruined into boot knuckle ruinisms and he or she would have the kids seized and sent into neighborhoods out there in Lefty's asshole.
Different planes for different stations. Existential authority is the trailways for the federal crust and its cast down lots called the average fucking 'Murican.
And stop blaming the kids, what do you think people do all day long in a government job?
I learned it from you mom! I learned it from you!
Perhaps the kids could have written some alt-text.
Nothing left to cut!
Well.. they will always cut another check..
The OIG ... uses feminine pronouns "for all individuals in this report to protect their identity."
SEXIST!
OIG VEY!
Paging Swiss ....
*narrows gaze*
I will eat my ducking hat if the Department of Commerce's Authorized Use Policy doesn't make it quite explicit that accessing pornographic material on your gov't device is not allowed.
And if it doesn't after I'm done with my hat I will email them a copy of the Army's AUP and they can use that as a framework.
Were you around when those Arkansas National Guard guys were getting busted every few months in Pentagon City?
...and attempted to retaliate against an employee she believed helped with the investigation.
So Lois Lerner is back in government service.
"The OIG was tipped off by a whistleblower-"
That's what I thought too. That poor bastard.
Meh.
Probably better for us that xe was not doing xir job.
No doubt. We should pre-load porn on all government employee computers and nothing else. Have them work from all work from home.
I like how you think. Porntrance.
Why Home Schooling?
http://humanevents.com/2015/09.....schooling/
Optiplex 745? That's got to be, like, eight years old at least. Eight-year-olds, dude. Let her have it. The 780 isn't obsolete yet, however. You can still get HD porn to play rather smoothly on that system. That one should be returned to government service.
When asked whether she found it appropriate to access and download porn on a government-owned computer, she said ... didn't think doing so was "anything inappropriate" based on what she knows about Commerce department policy.
Emphasis added. Fire her supervisor.
Fire the Department of Commerce!

She blamed her kids for it, or the investigators confirmed that her kids did it rather than her?
Considering the rest of her behavior, if that's just based on her explanation, I find that explanation dubious.
My kids did it! Those crazy kids with their interwebs!
Yeah. Right.
But you believe she has kids, right?
Kids were probably reading my popular fashion tumblr.
"posing in underwear"?
What kind of porn is that?
Can bureaucrats do anything right?
It was her kid. He doesn't know yet.
with this lady and the one in KY, not to mention this guy in the White House, how cool it must be to be a govt employee where you can ignore laws you don't like.
That has to be in some handbook somewhere.
Or a "reasonable mistake of law".
"racially offensive materials"
Serious question: What does that even mean?
White supremacist literature? Hip-hop videos?
nekkid messicans
The didn't say her kids were libertarian.
These days, it could mean a picture of a watermelon.
Dammit, can we get a trigger warning?!
I love watermelon. In fact, I'm going to go have a piece right now.
Yum. That was good.
Now I wanna piece...
with this lady and the one in KY, not to mention this guy in the White House, how cool it must be to be a govt employee where you can ignore laws you don't like.
That has to be in some handbook somewhere.
Reason is all for govt officials ignoring laws they don't like in Washington State and Colorado.
False equivalence. These laws concern government employees and government property; the laws about drugs concern private individuals and private property.
Weeds legal under CO and WA state law. The states don't enforce fed law.
Who does she think she is, a mobster or the secretary of state?
Yeah, it was her kids looking at porn and reading racially offensive material. That's the ticket.
Ok kids, if anyone asks.
OT: Food for Peanuts-
Welfare/Food Stamp spending by President
http://www.forbes.com/sites/mi.....9-to-2014/
Spikes up during GOP administrations - falls when Dem is POTUS with GOP Congress (gridlock)
PRAISE BE TO GRIDLOCK!
I should say the "rate of increase" falls when a Dem is POTUS - lest any of you Peanuts starts parsing my words.
It's cute when you reply to your own posts.
You should probably compare by who controlled congress, not by who was president, you fucking retard, given that congress controls the purse strings.
Under Gerald Ford (the person who had the largest increase) both houses of Congress were controlled by Democrats his entire tenure. Carter also had a large increase...and both houses were controlled by Democrats the entire time he was president. Reagan had the second lowest increase, and he controlled the Senate but didn't have the house. George H.W. Bush had a Democratic congress all 4 years he was in office.
Clinton had the lowest increase...and had a Republican senate and house 6 of his 8 years. G.W. Bush had a split congress because the Dems controlled the house 2 of his eight years but the senate 3.5 out of his eight years. Obama has also had a largely split congress because the House has been against him for 6 years.
So the actual lesson is that when Democrats control congress welfare spending tends to increase since there is a stronger correlation between dem congress and high welfare spending than there is a correlation between a Republican president and high welfare spending. The only time welfare spending has increased rapidly with a Republican congress was under G.W. Bush - every other time there was a large increase there was a Democratic congress.
Irish 1, Buttplug 0.
Whoosh! Over your head, Irish.
I am a proponent of gridlock. I have always said that. The only real gridlock is when the GOP becomes the opposition party (see Clinton and Obama). The GOP's natural propensity is to SPEND LIKE DRUNKEN SAILORS (John McCain quote concerning 2001-2007) unless they are the opposition party - their only strong suit.
From Best to Worst:
1- Dem POTUS and GOP Congress
2- GOP POTUS and Dem Congress
3- Dem POTUS and Dem Congress
4- GOP POTUS and GOP Congress (worst)
The numbers don't lie!
But you're wrong. The only correlation in that post is Democratic congresses leading to higher spending. When there were Democratic congresses with Republican presidents in the Nixon/Ford years, you had the two largest increases in welfare spending. Furthermore, the largest year over year increase during the Bush administration was between 2006 and 2007. This was before the economic crash, but it was the first year of a Dem congress and spending increased at a faster rate than at any year where Bush had a Republican congress.
Therefore, based on your own stats, the only actual correlation is between a Democratic Congress and higher spending. Gridlock is irrelevant - based on your own numbers, Republican congresses result in lower spending even when the president is a Republican.
And I just kicked your ass.
You're POV of the last 25 years is jaded.
I know that you are aware of the 1994 GOP spending revolt. Likewise 2010-14. They began only because a Dem was elected POTUS.
But you know damn good and well "fiscal responsibility" were words NEVER UTTERED by any Republican 2001-2007 when the GOP controlled every branch of government.
NCLB, TSA, NSA, Iraq War, Afghan War, Medicare Welfare, TARP, American Dream Downpayment Welfare......
Federal expenditures went from $1.9 trillion to $3.5 trillion by GOP fiat alone (TARP was bipartisan but led by Bush/Paulson to "save" capitalism by socializing banks).
Admit defeat. John McCain did.
Yes because of the wars. Both Reagan and Bush spent too much on the army. However, military spending is less of an issue than entitlement spending because entitlement spending never goes away. What's going to bankrupt this country is entitlements, not individual gluts of military spending. Entitlements also grow no matter what happens, whereas all you have to do is hold military spending steady and it will shrink relative to the size of the economy. You can't do that with entitlements because they grow continuously.
However, your link basically proves immediately that everything you're saying about welfare spending is horseshit and that the only factor that matters is whether or not Democrats control congress.
"NCLB, TSA, NSA, Iraq War, Afghan War, Medicare Welfare, TARP, American Dream Downpayment Welfare......"
None of this is mentioned in your link. Your link is purely about welfare spending. If you wanted to discuss these issues, then you probably should have posted something about that, rather than posting a link that refutes all your arguments. Whether or not the words 'fiscal responsibility' were ever uttered by a Republican between 2001 and 2007, it is still a fact that between 2006 and 2007, with a Dem congress, welfare spending increased more than it had in the first three years of the Bush administration combined. If you take the last two years of Bush (with Dem congresses) welfare spending increases were more than the six years when Republicans held congress.
You are bad at interpreting your own links.
You still evade the pertinent takeaway.
Gridlock is best and the only effective gridlock is a Dem POTUS and a GOP Congress.
I shudder to think what a Trump/Bush would do with this Congress. It would be 2000s all over again.
Also, the blame for Congressional spending in a certain year is partly shared with previous Congresses. Yes, in theory it's simple to cut long-existing entitlement spending programs, but in practice it's nearly impossible, when even a reduction in the rate of increase is called "cut" that will kill widows and orphans. Democrat Presidents and Congresses tend to vastly underestimate the future costs of their programs, scream if spending increases are even slowed, and then blame the nearest Republican when the bills come due.
Not that Republicans aren't often complicit, but generally they are unwilling partners at the start.
You are bad at interpreting your own links
You assume that Shitbag argues from a position of honesty and good faith. Bags of Shit like this Shitbag are always just full of shit - especially in the cranium.
Excellent takedown.

I would feel blue.. because crusty juggler died with jesus like fucking few hundreds of years ago and so on.
But the story they don't tell is when Jesus rose from his tomb a super horrible thing happened... crusty Juggler also arose from his odd fucking death and crust juggler ran like a crazed fool so fast from that shitty experience he ended up like several hundred years down the roadz. The Libertarian Republic on Carly Fiorina. Buzzfeed headlines. Couple interesting points mixed with some shaky criticism (what her ex has to say, things she said in college).
http://thelibertarianrepublic......y-fiorina/
That concept was featured in an episode or two (or more) of The West Wing.* If Josh and C.J. and Sam got past it, I think we all can as well.
*Yes, I watched it. I always had a thing for Stockard Channing...
Who doesn't love them some Rizzo?
People that hate the Chicago Cubs.
That's because The Libertarian Republic is fucking terrible and is nothing but the worst sort of clickbait website with a libertarian bent.
Also, the writing is terrible because:
"Bartlem also claims that Fiorina had an affair while they were together with senior AT&T executive Frank Fiorina, but Carly accused Bartlem of the same misdeeds."
Carly apparently accused her ex of sleeping with Frank Fiorina according to the Libertarian Republic.
Nice:)
Yawn.
While clearly inappropriate, is this really news? IMHO, this falls below my give a shit line.
Yeah, it's pretty lame. This week in HR drama.
You are a nitwit but I love you, you fucking moron.
You both I love but are both fucking clueless imbeciles...
Fran and AlJB, BOTH lovely sweet versed boys in these threads man. WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with you both?
Fuck your tiny buttholes with tons of fat books written by my god B Russell... pucker up bitches.

Work for ANY fortune 100 company while make TONS of money and let slip that headline above... you are finished. OVER. super high capitalism daydreams dashed...
BUT I'm willing to be my lovers don't make much so they aren't 2 disturbed, bra... peace out... no disrespect.
I think you might could possibly be overreacting just a tad. Need a Tramadol?
I would offer my boy supra JB a line of crushed Klonos because I think supra JB over-reacted WITH "Yeah, it's pretty lame. This week in HR drama."
It's the government. I'm not sure what you think they do but I'm thinking this is the norm. A senior official having a few ancient work computers checked out that may or may not have some naked pictures on them is pretty low on my list of things to be outraged about this week. The difference between a corporate employee and a government employee is that one has a real job and the other is a parasite. I would rather she sit at home with her government computers and download porn all day then spend that time fucking up people lives as a petty tyrant bureaucrat. This is a pretty minor nut punch compared to everything else going on with the world.
As far as I'm the fact that her department even exist is more outrageous then her bullshit.
As far as I'm concerned...
nitwit moron clueless imbecile. Please don't stop there. You're on a roll.
Not gonna.. I love you svelte much. way svelte.
I don't understand why reason has not investigate FINRA...
I have inside story on a sweet girl who was wooed by a big and lost out because her past record include old lost and tiny discrepancy long since fixed but FINRA killed her career... we are wealthy here but she had a chance and you have to understand that the new norm is that horrible shit cannot be reported like in the past, reason... research FINRA. PLease Reason.... we are rich and cool but FINRA is killing opportunities for the tiny people because of the disgusting communists that hate wall street....
A Dell Optiplex 745 refurb sells to about $100. That's a tested and reloaded one with Windows 7 Home Edition. If you leave one of these on your curb for the local junky to take, he'll get about $15 for it. Stealing is wrong, but I just wanted to calibrate the offense.
The slightly more valuable Dell 780 had "Sexually suggestive pictures of a female in a bathing suit and what appears to be lingerie and underwear."
What appears to be?
I'm looking at Table 1, BTW.
oh man, I've thrown hundreds of boards out with thousands of tables no super widget dude could compute. posted with fucking goddamn love, sniper military pretend take down bitch preacher widget?
Was she wearing the bathing suit over the lingerie? Does that even work? That would make one hell of a picture.
So here's how this works...
tons of fucking nasty communists, socialists, and tiny fuck margin fuck of anarchists show up to sway the shit eaters in places where legislatures are mostly full of lucky or largely nominally intelligent dumb fucks who hand all their law ideas off to the Harvard fucks who are sex-starved broccoli munchers who'd do awesome losing their lives at Amazon forever dying for Bezos but they ended up creating laws that ruin us all and they don't give a fuck because they all know tons of power that will let them off their piles of powdered valium and codeine and super drugs but you all outside the beltway gotta get your asshole prodded by fucking retards in uniforms who pretend to know a single thing about all this shit called 'muricocaine'/......
Since you're capitalizing proper names (Harvard, Amazon, and Bezos) , "Valium" is a proper brand name for diazepam. Minor bug. Are you open-source? Or would that be Open Source?
I don't want to be ruled by anyone too stupid to use incognito mode.
Too late.
I always wondered what the 44,000 Commerce Department employees did.
The answer, Drake, is "just jackin it."
They keep the economy humming well-oiled thrusting ahead from petering out in good shape bouncing along -- come to think of it I don't know what they do.
According to Sharyl Attkinsson, Clinton deliberately hid information on the Benghazi terror attack in blatant violation of FOIA requests.
Well, at least Hillary probably didn't let her kid download porn to her private server.
She told two CIA contractors and former Navy Seals, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, that she won't watch their backs. You are on your own out there pal !
I seem to be off in the broccoli about this. The US has air bases in the area, right? How long does it take a jet fighter to fly from Italy to Benghazi? Even if it's just for recon and the thunder. An hour, 4 hours, never? Not yet.
No, how long does it take to wake up pilots, get them into work, brief them, arm the jets, arrange tanker support...
And to hit what?
In my professional opinion, with the info available at the time, a strike/support sortie wouldn't have gotten there in time and would have been unsuccessful in affecting the outcome if it did and had the potential to be a real disaster.
The real Benghazi story is/was the coverup.
This. There's no military solution for this that ends well. "Sendin' in da Marines to Kick Some ASS" is just fantasy.
The scandals are:
1. Deposing a leader who hadn't attacked another country and was cooperating with the West, because "R2P" (*barf*).
2. Trying to pin the blame on reaction to a film, in the process putting ?more? people at risk and apologizing for our first amendment. The film was still better-acted than Star Wars, though.
3. Lying about when the real reasons became known.
4. Destroying evidence of all this.
But hey, in Washington, you fail up!
The lack of response was part of the cover up.
The Africom Commander and an Admiral were relieved of duty during the attack because they had assets are were going to use them. I don't know if it was SF, SEALs, or the Marine Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team in Spain - but there was plenty in the area.
No, how long does it take to wake up pilots, get them into work, brief them, arm the jets, arrange tanker support..
You are repeating my question. I don't know. How long?
10 minutes from an Air Force station until the birds are in the air and on their way. 5 minutes from a carrier. You can give then orders on the way.
That's what I'm paying for.
8 hours maybe.
My understanding was that there was a carrier in the Med. They could have got there, but I don't think they could have done much.
The thing with a scenario like that is that in the first handful of hours, information is extremely sketchy. Not to mention, Libya has real air defenses. You could easily lose a bunch of pilots/aircraft going into a place like that without a full-up strike package. And loitering in such an environment is suicidal. I don't fault the decision.
The coverup, OTOH, should have been, and still is, an impeachable offense, IMHO.
It wasn't a proper AF mission (not enough intel, fight too close to friendlies), but there were things that could have been sent. A carrier in the Med means Marines, and Army had some assets available as well.
Not sure they would get there in time, but the attempt should be made.
Seals, maybe, but still, I doubt the information was concrete enough to mount an operation. So in such a case you'd be sending them in blind with little chance of success. In which case, you're just risking more lives. It's certainly a judgment call, but I don't think I'd be inclined to send more folks into a possible meat grinder. It's not the movies.
Marine FAST in Spain - exactly the mission they are trained and equipped for.
The MEU would have Marines trained for this kind of operation too. They are trained for fast response. That is sort of the point.
8 hours maybe
Let's just surrender. I can drive that far in 8 hours.
And what do you do when you get there?
This isn't a movie, widget.
If your standard is "knows exactly what's going on, who's where and exactly who to kill" then the guys several blocks away who actually did run to the sound of the guns couldn't have said yes to that at the time, either. They went anyway. There was a working comm link, which is how the higher-ups knew something was going on. Within half an hour or so of the beginning of the attack, there was at least the possibility of having good intel coming from an asset on the ground in the middle of the fight. But nobody took advantage of that because they were apparently too busy figuring out why it was just too hard to try to stop the massacre of an ambassador and potentially dozens more people.
Yes, there are any number of disasters that could have happened if they tried -- they still should have tried. Anyone who wouldn't isn't fit to be in charge, and frankly the bad-movie scenario is the one where someone has a twee excuse about the mathematical probability of having an average few more casualties with a rescue attempt than without one. When your people know you'll leave them behind, they won't fight for you.
And what do you do when you get there?
Make 50 sq miles of glass?
" letting her children use them to do things like watch porn and download "racially offensive materials"
OMG, SHE LET HER TEEN KIDS BE TEEN KIDS!!
The 'outrage' here shouldn't be that kids watched porn on government property... its that this particular department of the government routinely blows hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money on stupid shit that should otherwise never have existed.
Notable! In 2011, Obama decided "Government Might Possibly Be Slightly Wasteful" Much of that waste was at the Commerce Department, who...aside from the Census.... as far as I know serve no other purpose but to be a Pork Funnel for bullshit "development" projects.
They employ a GS-15 who occasionally "teleworks" when the kids aren't surfing porn between taxpayer-funded shopping junkets to Paris. These are the people who spend the Commerce Departments budget and "make it work". Funeling the shit-ton of development cash probably only takes a few hours per week for the whole crew.
You can pretty much tell there will be no firing. Possibly not even a reprimand. If a reprimand, no actual harm to the career.
In my experience, for most people, work-at-home is pretend-to-work-at-home. There's been a huge scandal of patent examiners "working" at home. Widespread fraud. Managers prevented from taking corrective action. And it's being used as a model for rolling out telework across the government.
Where I work, we have this theory: you can't fire the masses of incompetents, but if they're at the office they feel the need to look busy, and the best kind of busy is "managing" contractors. On the other hand, most of these people will simply disappear if they're "teleworking". So why not have them all telework all the time? It's better for the budget and productivity, because there's no chance of not paying them anyway, and the remaining folks can do their job better and cheaper without interference.
Or to put it another way, guaranteed minimum income is already here.
I'm just wondering by ENB wrote a story about this. I thought she was totally OK with government aka stolen-from-you-and-I money to be used to treat and alleviate the consequences of sexual impulses.......
So are you a nasty viper or a word twisting deacon from your local pentecostal?

"Fake scandal!!1!"
So the 5th is the only amendment they like anymore? Nice.
The favorite Amendment of communists, Mafiosos and government bureaucrats.
Wait a minute, what about this guy...?
The thing about stories like this being given coverage is that many people, not you bastards, will read it and think, "Well, if that's the worst example of govt waste they can find, meh." 90% of DC is a complete waste of money and oppressive. I'd go 100%, but I want the low life Fed comment monitors to think they aren't useless. They are great humans saving us from harsh words.
"many people,... will read it and think, "Well, if that's the worst example of govt waste they can find, meh.""
Exactly.
Which is why i found the headline about "and they watched *porn*!!" so silly.
The fact that a govt flunky can snatch 7 computers for home use *at all* is absurd. I've worked for some Fortune 500, and you had to sign those @#*(&$@ company laptops out! and they'd fine you if you didn't get them back when you said.
I highlighted obama's 2011 "gesture towards waste control" because of how bullshit the entire thing was from conception. (the details are hilarious in how low they set the bar - "don't print stuff up *all the time*", "turn the lights off when you leave", etc) Instead, they should be closing whole departments in many of these agencies.
Oh shit, that's brilliant. Instead of shutting down government departments to cut taxes or debt, start describing government departments in terms of carbon output and watch some the less watermelony greens clamber over each other to kill them.

Where a government employee to search my computer, they would probably find traces that they would consider to fit most of these categories simply by looking at my Reason.com browsing history.

Hillary and Lois Lerner didn't do anything wrong either. They're all innocent! Stop picking on them! You're distracting them from planning their sweet retirement!

Carly apparently accused her ex of sleeping with Frank Fiorina according to the Libertarian Republic.
