Hillary Clinton does not want to drill, baby, drill.
No one likes cheap gas.
Wow, with that set-up you could have made a *much* dirtier joke.
There are enough Hillary Clinton sex jokes in the links threads. We don't need them at the top of the thread. I just had a nice delicious snack and I'd like to keep from puking it back up.
I don't work blue.

Hello.
A rumor is swirling around that Hillary is a...lesbian?
No. Way.
From all I have heard she is worse than Bill ever was.
Ms. whitewater was always suspected of swinging both ways.
To the contrary, I'll bet she has had sex extremely few times in her life. Perhaps just on anniversaries when Bill felt obligated.
+1 White Castle
Finally a politician I can support.
If it wasn't for Quebec, Canadian politics would suck balls.
Case in point:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com.....e25995001/
You mean the province most infused with social-democracy poison?
Did they just jack corporate tax rate 20%, institute $15 minimum wage, increased income tax for kulaks and are planning a new, sweeping program of climate change fightin' laws? Without having a budget?
Because that would be straight-up socialism.
Quebec?
Not that I heard.
My corp tax remains 21%.
/dials accountant up.
That's what NDP over in Alberta did since they got elected. And they are barely starting to roll.
They have an MP who was taped celebrating Hugo Chavez, and his latest outburst is figuring out how hard the drill worker have it - from a museum dedicated to the first Albertan oil well.
Here, have some evil right-wing spin but make sure you put headphones on. I think you get six months in quebec if they catch you watching Ezra Levant.
Alberta is fucken retarded.
They had a good thing going.
Seriously. Idiots.
Alberta started changing a long time before the NDP got elected. The changing of the guard was mostly formality. The NDP can't do what it wants to do: the oil money party is over. They are too late.
Do you know anything about socialism?!
Yes. I know that it needs other people's money, or better yet money that can come out of the ground. The latter powered Chavez's revolution. Without easy money, socialism withers. Unless it's old-school praire socialism, in which case the province in its grip withers for several decades. Alberta's NDP is not that old CCCF stuff.
Look, I get being angry at PC. Seriously, I'd be too. But Wildrose just got rid of the cancerous part. So why punish them for no longer having vile shitheels in their ranks, and cut your own throat by voting NDP into the bargain?
Not disagreeing with you. People were hurt and betrayed by the WR bullshit (I loved the fact that Smith left she sucked). But the patient needed time to recover, and Smith's replacement doesn't thrill me or anyone. He was mediocre in the debate but they may have been calculated just to keep the WRP alive (which did happen). People weren't 'excited' enough for them so they went Full Trump for the NDP. Seriously, it was basically the same damn thing.
What I can't possibly figure out is people that still would vote PC. That ship is sunk!
It truly is baffling and points to how sufficiently Canadians can be. You have a situation where the country is envious of your wealth and you go vote in a party that for all intents and purposes expropriates wealth through coercive policies.
Then they wonder why.
Fools.
Alberta was better off sticking with the fools they already knew.
What they fuck are you guys talking about? Game of Thrones or something?
Pretty much. Canadian Politics is way more Game of Thrones than American politics. You win or you die, generally speaking. One reason our politics is way better than your politics!
Quebec is actually headed slowly in the right direction while Alberta goes crazy (but the NDP is already dropping in the polls.) Still no bill 101 here though.
What, corruption isn't entertaining enough for you Cyto?
The Charbonneau Commission was hilarious.
Might I add, because we have corruption mixing with socialism it's the place that produced the only meaningful libertarian publication with Le Quebecois Libre.
Not to mention the Montreal Economic Institute.
I donated money once to he MEI.
Might I add, because we have corruption mixing with socialism it's the place that produced the only meaningful libertarian publication with Le Quebecois Libre.
There's also the fact that French-Canadians aren't going to have the same attitudes to English Canadian mythologies as the anglos. For example I'm sure many Anglos regard libertarianism as treasonous insanity.
Yes they do.
That's why they're Square Heads.
When did you turn into a mangacake?
IT'S MANGIA-CAKE.
That's awesome, but he was killed in single combat. Maybe good enough for Canada...

He had apparently had a brief affair with the wife of the clerk of the Executive Council, John Small*. Mrs Small slighted Mrs White at an assembly in York; White made a scurrilous comment about Mrs Small's virtue to D. W. Smith. Eventually this remark reached Mrs Small, whose husband challenged White to a duel. White was shot, and died 36 hours later.

Spot the Not: wacky weapons
1. the godendag- a staff with spikes at one end, this weapon got its name from the battlecry its users shouted when striking an enemy. The name means "hello" in Dutch.
2. the chakram- this weapon from India was a killer frisbee made from steel. It was used to decapitate enemies from a distance.
3. the leiomano- this weapon from Polynesia was club shaped like a ping pong paddle with shark teeth on the edges.
4. the rete et tridens- a net and trident used by a kind of Roman gladiator
5. the machipotletec- an Aztec club studded with spikes of obsidian
6. the zulfiqar- a legendary sword from Arabia with a split tip
I will not be able to reveal the answers within an hour. Google is your friend.

Derp. I never would have spotted that.
Imma say machipoltetec is the not, because it leaves blood stains on your underwear.
You said "split tip."
Trick question, They are all real.
Hm...those all are real weapons, I think. Don't know about #6, but Zulfikar is I think a Turkish name, so there's gotta be something there.
Good one this time, Derpetologist!

Thank you for that. You are my hero.
I've turned against her as of yesterday with the hot, hot hate of a thousand suns.
Well, we are talking about two women here.
hot, hot hate
Coulter's a little young to be going through The Change?, isn't she?
Ann will always bleed out of her eyes, and out of her...wherever...

Jesus Christ why did you have to do that?
Not so young.
Yeah, why suns always gotta be hatin'?

The iPhone has spread all over the world, but that doesn't mean it costs the same amount country to country.
In fact, an iPhone in Brazil ($1,107.53) costs almost twice as much as one in the United States ($649). WebpageFX has compiled a nifty graphic that shows not only how much iPhones cost all over the world, but what percentage that price would be of the annual income of someone living there. The lowest is the US at 1.6% of average income, and the highest is Indonesia, at 39.3%.

I like iPhones, but I'm still partial to Android.
A couple months ago, I placed a claim through Asurion for a two-year-old Motorola that I broke. They sent a refurbished replacememnt, and it worked fine till a couple weeks ago when it crapped out. Since Asurion warrants their phones for a year, I called them up. My heart sank when the rep said they didn't carry my model anymore. But, she said she'd send me a Droid Turbo instead, and that it would be brand new, not a refurbished. It's like a free upgrade to Verizon's flagship Android phone, so I'm pretty stoked.
I hear Cyanogen is partnering with small OEMs and they are just dominating. Samsung might go the way of Nokia it's so bad. And Google is also hurting.
Cyanogen is the platform you use if you wanna "root" your phone, correct?
My wife has an iPhone, I have a Droid Mini. I have better hands-free capabilities but she has a much, much better camera. Other than that the differences are largely superficial.
iPhone cameras are really, really nice. My new Droid has a 21MP camera and a 2560x1440 display to go with it. I do agree that the manufacturers have perfected the technology such that there really is little difference in terms of quality and features when it comes to high-end smartphones.
So, how many signatures do I need to collect To de-certify a given person's citizenship? Because I could see making my life's work getting elected politicians' citizenship revoked.
You could make a whitehouse.gov petition and just see where it lands.

That's one thing they got right, although I'd limit it to politicians. Sorry, you won this year. Please leave. See you in ten years!
Ideally, we would have a sort of freeform dynamic subnationality based on perceived shared values.
We do have a problem right now that even though nationality is officially about cultural commonalities, in practice it is an arbitrary label applied by elites in a manner than benefits them. It would be like the President sending some guy to live with you and saying he's now officially your cousin, so you'd better take care of him like family.
Or, it would be like defining the people of this board in a way that Tony and Shriek are as much group members as everyone else, on the basis that they share the same virtual space.
Neal Stephenson slipped one under the radar earlier this year. I'm a little apprehensive after REAMDE, which wasn't unenjoyable but certainly wasn't his best. Anyone read it yet?
Eh. The ideas are cool. But its like a depressing Lucifer's Hammer in space. Do not love, but tolerable good hard sci-fi. Every good aci-fi writer destroys civilizaton eventually.
After Snow Crash and Diamond Age and Anathem it's tough keeping your fans satisfied.
Those are my favorites - esp. Diamond Age and Anathem.
I liked Cryptonomicon well enough but couldn't get into Baroque Cycle at all. After all that I didn't think he had Anathem in him but boy was I wrong.
Yes. These three are great. I enjoyed the first two thirds of Seveneves, I'm stuck on the last third. (The narrative shifts significantly)
I liked it. It rambles a bit, but that is mostly because of how ambitious it is. If he had sequels, I would expect them to be better.
It's no Anathem or Cryptonomicon though.
Agree, if it is a setup for aulti-book universe, that would improve it.
Everyone I know hated Cryptonomicon. Too much of a slog, too scattered, too often too far out in the weeds. It's one of my favorites.
I didn't hate it, but he needed an editor. The "dear Penthouse" chapter could be completely elided without any loss. Same with a half-dozen other scenes. At least it had an ending.
But it set up the silly Van Eck phreaking scene.
You're right, though. It was pretty indulgent, like he leafed through some old short stories for filler.
He's still desperately trying to keep morse code cool.
I'd really like to see him write with some restraint, as he's a good and interesting author. I don't mind length, but I do mind the rambling.
Anathem is probably the most restrained thing he's written. (With the caveat I haven't read his newer stuff.)
I loved it. The tangents made it awesome.
Sums it up nicely. Definitely worth a read and has some compelling scenes and interesting ideas.
I enjoyed it tremendously. Hundreds and hundreds of expository text about orbital dynamics. Bliss.
Yeah, that was all good fun. Have you read this one yet? http://waitbutwhy.com/2015/08/.....-mars.html
Seveneves was good...though I wish he had spent more time on the "5000 years later".
Now I want to re-read Cryptonomicon and the whole Baroque Cycle.
Baroque cycle has some good, some amazing, and then bogs down hard in book 3.
Unlike the rest of you losers, I like Soave becauser he seems like a swell fella.
Cosmotarian!
Is Suave even old enough to drink cocktails?
It's pronounced 'Suuuaaaaaavvaaaaaaayyyyyyy'.
And you have to do pelvic thrusts whilst saying it.
A swell fella, perhaps, but if he didn't graduate from Columbia, then his work is of dubious quality.
Like him? Maybe. Respect his work? Nope.
He does some fine work, but he irritates the fuck outta me with his frequent sops to lefty hysterics. Given the substance of his pieces, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up Weigeling some day.
Ooh, let's see all the free stuff Canadian leaders are promising:
Justin Trudeau pledges millions of dollars to support green technology
Tom Mulcair pledges NDP will spend $30M promoting Canada to U.S. tourists
It's so easy when it's other people's money.
I wouldn't want to be stuck in the middle of those two.
God.
Tom Mulcair pledges NDP will spend $30M promoting Canada to U.S. tourists
You mean all that free healthcare doesn't have Americans swarming over the border already?
I keep saying Canada should just go on strike, but no one listens....
I keep striking but PEOPLE REFUSE TO HONK THEIR HORNS IN SUPPORT!
Maybe I should put pants on?
We're casting you adrift, buddy!
A long time ago (late 80s? early 90s?) I remember seeing some kind of made-for-TV movie, where global warming has destroyed the US. It follows a family from New Orleans, which is destroyed in a 200 mph hurricane. Or something like that. All I remember is them trying to sneak over the border into Canada, where there are minutemen and protesters holding signs that say "No Cheap American Labor".
It was like if Greenpeace co-produced a TV movie with Donald Trump.
Why is CBC not showing this every week?
Canadian nationalists make Americans look like juvenile amateurs.
"Hello, Americans, come and Drink Canada Dry!"
Especially now with the return of BLOOM COUNTY, I instinctively misread any reference to Justin Trudeau as one to Gary Trudeau and mentally picture Bill the Cat standing at a podium gesticulating wildly in his tightey-whiteys and offering free shit to Canadians.

A DOLLAR MAKES ME HOLLAR!
Coulter is an ass 90% of the time and Trump is an ass 99% of the time but I see nothing wrong with criticizing Carly Fiorina for saying getting rid of birthright citizenship is a stupid idea.
It's not like she offered sensible, moderate criticism. Hatred of 1000 suns for not wanting to repeal the 14th amendment? Considering Fiorina was attacking a guy who not only wants to end birthright citizenship, but deport US citizens I think Trump is a much more worthy target of derision. I can see the reasoning for people who would want to end granting citizenship to someone who's mom flew over or hopped across the border to have a kid and then took them back to their home country (though I don't think that's really a widespread or bad enough issue to worry about), but I really don't see any reason kids who are born, raised, and have spent their entire lives in the US should not be given citizenship, and that is who Trump is targeting.
Hyperbole is Coulter's forte. Like I said, an ass 90% of the time. And certainly throwing Fiorina under the bus for one criticism of a fellow political candidate is being an ass. But in a galaxy's worth of bad ideas that Trump proposes in his immigration "plan," ending birthright citizenship is the one planet that makes a fair amount of sense. And it can't be retroactively done for those already born here anyway.
She's a troll. And it pays well. She goads people on both sides of the aisle and someone somewhere will always give her airtime for it.
"But in a galaxy's worth of bad ideas that Trump proposes in his immigration "plan," ending birthright citizenship is the one planet that makes a fair amount of sense"
How? I think birthright citizenship is a great feature of the American system in contrast to many others around the world.
"And it can't be retroactively done for those already born here anyway."
Which didn't stop Trump from calling to deport them anyways. Also, given that it would take a constitutional amendment either way, you hypothetically could include a provision that would apply retroactively. Granted, it would lower support significantly, but it's not happening either way regardless.
Especially given that the rest of the Americas share jus soli citizenship rights, unilaterally altering our system (even provided that it could be easily done) would complicate things dramatically for the children of illegal immigrants who would technically not have any de jure citizenship. That's complicated all the more by the United States not being signatory to any of the international conventions on stateless persons as well as the suggestion by Trump that he'd have extant birthright citizens deported (de facto stripping them of any citizenship protections and leaving them likewise stateless).
The last point, about deporting those already living as birthright citizens should be a fun debate, given that two of Trump's fellow candidate's in the GOP race ?Marco Rubio and Bobby Jindal ?are birthright citizens. Rubio (who's called out for derision in the Trump document as "Zuckerberg's personal senator") has already made statements, like Fiorina, defending the 14th Amendment and birthright citizenship, although Jindal's actually called for revisions to the process (he was born parents in US on visas, so it's not wholly hypocritical). Nevertheless, Trump isn't giving a whole lot thought on international law and constitutional history here ?nor are those who are running to catch up with him...
I really don't see any reason kids who are born, raised, and have spent their entire lives in the US should not be given citizenship, and that is who Trump is targeting
I can think of many reasons, but they've got nothing to do with being a recent immigrant.
Well, the question is whether they would in fact be raised in the US if they weren't entitled to citizenship.
"Well, the question is whether they would in fact be raised in the US if they weren't entitled to citizenship."
I don't see how that is the question given the millions of people already living in the country illegally, many of whom don't have citizen kids (which also doesn't guarantee you won't get deported).
Whatever restrictions you put on it, there's going to be people falling into the category I describe, unless you explicitly state that (for example) citizenship is granted after X years of residency, but that doesn't appear to be consistent with what Trump wants.
Unless I missed a separate quote, she didn't say it was a stupid idea. She said it would require a constitutional amendment so we should focus our energy elsewhere. There isn't anything false or unreasonable about that statement:
Carly Fiorina: "It would take passing a constitutional amendment to get that changed. It's part of our 14th Amendment. So honestly, I think we should put all of our energies, all of our political will into finally getting the border secured and fixing the legal immigration," she told Kelly O'Donnell on Monday.
Do you know who else objects to birthright citizenship? La Raza. A shocking number of the racist group's followers want to reclaim the southwest US for Mexico and send everyone who is not Hispanic (including those of us who were born here) back to wherever we came from. Granted, that's unlikely to happen (at least in my lifetime), but why do they get a pass?
Who said anything about them? Is a La Raza member running for president and leading the polls of one of the two biggest parties? Is that person one of the subjects of the linked article?
La Raza isn't nearly as relevant as you seem to think they are if that was your first reaction. Just out of curiosity, do you have a link to where they advocate that? I know there are various individuals and groups that do advocate reconquest (though even combined they're pretty small and insignificant), I didn't know they were one of them. Their website states otherwise:
http://www.nclr.org/index.php/.....gregation/
I have lived in Southern California my whole life. I encounter that opinion all the time. La Raza (The Race) members are often aligned with another group called MEChA, who is very open about their desire to subjugate non-Latinos. Most of the Hispanic politicians in California (and there are many) are and/or were members of both of these racist groups. I just find it odd to see someone vilified for expressing an idea that's nowhere near as extreme as respected, national organizations that cater to Latinos. But I agree with Fiorina that it would be a waste of time to amend our Constitution for this issue when there are far bigger fish to fry.
"I have lived in Southern California my whole life."
As have I.
"I encounter that opinion all the time."
I encounter it once in a while (and very rarely super seriously), and a majority of my friends and people I interact with on a personal basis are Mexican and Latino.
"La Raza (The Race) members are often aligned with another group called MEChA, who is very open about their desire to subjugate non-Latinos."
Ok, so you concede they don't advocate it, just that their members are "often aligned" with another group who does (and, per MEChA's wiki page, La Raza has explicitly condemned the things you're referring to)?
"Most of the Hispanic politicians in California (and there are many) are and/or were members of both of these racist groups."
Source for a majority being members both groups?
"I just find it odd to see someone vilified for expressing an idea that's nowhere near as extreme as respected, national organizations that cater to Latinos."
Maybe because he's currently leading the field for the Republican presidential nomination? And are those groups really that respected? If there was a candidate in a major party (especially one leading the polls) advocating la Reconquista they would be getting far more criticism than Trump. But that person doesn't exist. Your comment is a classic as of "whataboutism."
Trigger warning: old article
Miami Police Fight Back Against Waze App
Remember, this is the same gang who started a turf war with the state police after a statie failed to give a MPD officer driving 100+ mph in his squad car withiut sirens "professional courtesy". Fucking troope of baboons.
I'm very glad I no longer have to drive to Miami daily for my job, though the Broward County Sheriff/Fort Lauderdale Police aren't much better.
Speaking of...
County officers sided with staties, then?
And, back in the Cocaine Cowboys era, the Miami police had an entire academy class end up either dead or in prison.
I grew up in Miami in the 80s. It was an... interesting time, to say the least.
of course, what with all the white suits being worn with pastel t-shirts and all.
I actually might be in favor of this kind of trigger warning.
Did you guys know that men getting falsely accused of rape is actually proof of rape culture?
This woman also claims she's a victim of rape culture because one time a coworker prank called her and said it was '"Dick Hertz from Holden, Mass." The poor darling - it's like being forcefully sodomized with words.
Well, men falsely accused and convicted of rape are sent to prison to be raped. So, yeah, I kinda see the connection...
So this person is actually saying that, by just shouting "rape culture" loudly and often, rape culture now exists and goddamn it we need to do something about it.
That should be easy, stop shouting "rape culture!"
(Has anyone considered that it might actually be a rap culture, but someone just exchanged a long and short vowel on account of rhythm or something, and no one wanted to try to correct them for fear of looking racist?)
Well, rape culture does exist. Like, in the place where they literally sell women as sex slaves. Which we aren't supposed to talk about since it makes prank calls sort of small potatoes in comparison.
The real rape culture takes place when I am walking down a street and a man whistles at me.
Then you rape him for whistling at you? I'm confused
This paragraph makes me laugh so hard because of what it says about petty, white lady feminism:
Everything about this is just wonderful. Some guy yelling at you on the street and a joking prank call = basically rape. She makes the connection explicit since she argues this is proof of rape culture.
Just like racism, those who look for rape everywhere will likely find it.
that is so used to omnipresent sexual assault and harassment
... What? Where? I didn't see any... *glances around, nervously waiting to be raped*

Slight aside - a favorite of my old gunny in Okinawa was to tell new arrivals from the schoolhouse that, to check in, they needed to get an ID-10T form filled out at admin. Virtually everyone fell for it.
They just won't quit.
This whole rape culture bullshit isn't going to end well and when it does the purveyors of it will have no clue how it happened.

Hey Robby,
All these libertarians seem so unhappy and glum that they don't talk about politics or, really, what you guys spent 30 minutes working on. Maybe you should tell them that we opened an embassy in Havana after 50 years of Cold War nonsense and the historic nuclear deal with Iran. Do you think that would make them feel better? I think it's the libertarian moment, personally.
I LOVE YOU!!!!!
Oh, hey, I love you guys too. Muah!!
I think it's the libertarian moment because there's a smug billionaire running for president who is telling poor people that everyone can be rich like him and that the necessary qualifications for being president are that you should have run, literally, a beauty contest at a hotel. What an daring outsider.
Some people are pissed, but not me.
Better than a billionaire socialist who will steal land and kill people for the greater good, amirite?

Having traveled throughout S.E. Asia shortly after the crash, I find it impossible to quantify the suffering caused by Soros upon tens of millions of innocent people.
But at least Soros didn't open a plant in China where suicides among workers occur with a frequency less than the American average and much less than the Chinese average occur.
I turned it off once the guy started spelling "baht" as "bot". Does it get better? Is the suffering caused by arch-fiend soros more or less acute than any investor with money in any of the accounts managed by Peter Schiff. I'm looking to complete my master's degree in comparative misery.
"The guy"? You mean Salman Khan? Holder of three bachelor's degrees from MIT (pursued simultaneously), two master's degrees from MIT (pursued simultaneously), and one MBA from Harvard?
Besides, he did no such thing, you fucking myopic imbecile. Anyone with 20/20 vision can see that Khan spelled "baht" correctly each and every time. So your excuse to remain pig-ignorant was just bullshit.
You are the avatar of the Dunning-Kruger effect made manifest into flesh.
Soros feeds off the misery of nations.
More.

It really thinks it holds the moral heights for advancing a theory of government responsible for episodes of such death and destruction they're referred to as "purges." Routine, inevitable purges. Which Bernie Sanders kid holds in high moral esteem.
And it wonders why it hasn't gotten much traction among people older than 15 or younger than 65.
That sort of exposition will earn you a spot on the purge list.
Cool story, bro.
TOTALLY DIDN'T HEAR ABOUT ANY OF THAT THANKS FOR THE INFO! SUPER GLAD THERE WON'T BE ANY NEGATIVE IMPACTS AT ALL!
Shouldn't you be watering the pepper plants in your garden? It's hot outside.

It has come to my attention that a fellow Canadian Libertarian has committed the sin of supporting Harper. This individual has had his decoder ring removed and is being processed at the Ministry of Love. Do not support Harper.
WTF? Bryce Harper is AWESOME!
I thought he meant Valerie Harper.
I thought it was Harper Lee. Has anyone actually read her new book?
Are you sure it's not Lew Harper?
I never would have read her old one if the English teacher didn't make me.
WHO do you suggest I support, Cyto?
Drama Gaffe Boy Trudeau and his Purple Book of Vapidity or the other guy?
The Canadian Libertarian Party?
1) The Libertarian Party 2) If no LP running: nobody.
There is nothing wrong with not voting if they really are all shit. Harper is the worst of them though. He is our Bush in many respects. Those heretics who support him deserve one fate...
*starts up woodchipper*
I guess it's an option.
Dunno, if two guys want to fuck me in the ass, and one doesn't, I'll go with the one who doesn't.
It's purely academic discussion here, my riding is a fiefdom of a woman who thought she could do better job than His Highness The Prince, didn't get the job, and will now be telling me how awesome he is. If she does go down, it'll be because Socialist wave is about to crush all before it.
Harper is out to fuck you in the ass, no question.
Is your riding Liberal lady Martha Hall Findlay? If it is you MUST vote for her. She's the good sane Liberal.
No, it's the worthless Heddy Fry. And there are no sane Liberals left. When I hear them talking about building pipelines, I'll give them the time of day again. As long as they are on the Climate Carbon Change Oil Bad wagon, they can go fuck themselves.
And no, not one thing Harper did so far impacted me in a negative way, whereas NDP fuckers and Liberal morons want to make me poorer straight up. So no, to hell with dying on a hill because I'm too pure and virginal to debase my self. Against the Commies with Devil himself!
Heddy Fry? Poor you.
And I agree 100% with your last paragraph.
They pin stuff on Harper that has little impact on me. But the NDP and Liberals would make my finances worse.
The only government to hand me a check in my political life time is Harper. No one else.
Excuse me? Are two off your gourd? C-51 alone will have an immensely negative impact on our civil liberties and if you think otherwise I have to question your cred as a libertarian. He's also perpetuated and deepened the awful telecoms regulations that will damage our broadband for a long time. If you don't this stuff it's because frankly you are ignorant.
Harper's 'checks' are worthless boutique tax break bullshit. The TFSA is the only good thing he's done in that regard. Does not outweigh becoming a police state.
The Liberals need to go back to talking a good game about climate change and then not doing jack all about it. Those were good times.
And then there's the fact that Harper increased funding to the CHRC while doing nothing about their abuses and war on free speech which happened under his watch and he's responsible for. But hey, you got your check so fuck liberty amiright?
Oh kookie, CHRC is Harper's fault, right? And NDP and Liberals can't wait to shut it down or stop it?
Fuck it, Harper was the only one to leash that rampaging monster. NDP can't wait to let it loose on its enemies.
Harper didn't leash it he amputated S13 and gave the CHRC more money.
Yes, he did leash it, now they can't prosecute people for speech. Over objections of NDP and Liberals. More than either party has done or will ever do. So yeah, fuck them.
And here the perfect example of why I wish "Harper as NDP sees him" was running for office. Because all 16 reasons to stop him sound awesome to me.
I keep getting various anti-Harper ads on youtube that make me want to vote for the man. "He will destroy environment" "He will cut our health care" "He will build pipelines"
If the guy they describe was up for election, I'd be out on the street harassing people to vote!
And I don't give a flying fuck if C-51 passes. Same government abolished Section 13. So they still did more for liberty in Canada than any government since Trudeau became the PM.
And I don't give a flying fuck if C-51 passes. Same government abolished Section 13. So they still did more for liberty in Canada than any government since Trudeau became the PM.
Bullshit on steroids. C-51 is far worse than S13 you are supporting a surveillance state so that you can thumb your nose at socialists while supporting another socialist. You are not far off 'Trump supporter' levels of derp right here.

"Longtime Canadian conservative activist Connie Fournier makes the case that the Conservative government in Canada has lost its way and that party members have a responsibility to hold their leadership accountable in the 2015 federal election by voting against Stephen Harper."
C-51 has nothing to do with surveillance state. CSIS can start spying on whomever they want tomorrow law or no law. C-51 provides safeguards explicitly and, if they choose to bypass them, or if they find a compliant judge to give them a warrant, it offers no more protection that current laws. Spies still have to get a warrant, which means, complain about weak judiciary. It also explicitly states
Which is more free speech than NDP is prepared to ever grant.
CSIS can start spying on whomever they want tomorrow law or no law.
But they couldn't arrest people and now they can. We now have a Stasi.
"For greater certainty, it does not include lawful advocacy, protest, dissent and artistic expression."
Yes, and we all know how well these laws work out. Like the PATRIOT act.
Here's a synopsis of C-51 that isn't bullshit: http://www.therebel.media/why_....._bill_c_51
I am sure when the NDP or Liberal use these laws against you, you will be absolutely mystified as to how this could happen.
Ok, his arguments
Yeah, that's how warrants work. Arrest warrant fucks your freedom of movement. Surveillance warrant fucks your freedom of privacy. Moreover, Charter rights are not absolute and inviolate by design. Or Steyn and Maclean would not have been dragged to tribunal.
Thus joining about every fucking thing government does. Yes, PMO runs the country with parliament for show. Has for decades.

Half the post is on this shit! Fuck off.
So this is why I give zero shit. It's a piece of garbage legislation that does nothing new. Unnecessary and with no effect, it's merely a symptom of horrible Canadian attitude towards civil rights as something that government grants you. If any party thought the opposite, I'd switch my vote to them. Until then, I write it off and look at who's trying to plunder me more.
Cyto is not getting that Harper actually is the lesser of all three evils.
The Tories were always 'tough on crime' because that's what conservatives who vote for them demand.
D.C. Circuit voids SEC "conflict minerals" policy on First Amendment grounds (again)
PB hardest hit.
Oh great. Now the SEC's going to waste even more time trying to re-write this again instead of finally getting around to finishing the crowdfunding rules.
Wow. I think we had one exchange about conflict minerals a couple of years ago and now two of you remember that today.

There is no way they will ever have the network security good enough to make autonomous vehicles really work.
I disagree. It's *theoretically* possible, so eventually will be done.
HOWEVER, to produce it in practice takes a massive system engineering effort to ensure that every system that interacts with a communications bus can handle any traffic on that bus *AND* that all buses only carry the traffic they are supposed to - ie the network that tells the brakes what to do should not be the same network streaming movies...
Especially if you are streaming Speed 2.
You would be amazed (and probably somewhat terrified) by how rarely "good enough security" is actually a practical consideration.
Yeah. And that is going to be a bit of a problem.
Maybe, maybe not. Is it a problem that the lock on your front door can be bumped in under a minute by an experienced thief? Yeah, probably. Should we do away with houses because of it? Doesn't seem worth the trade-off to me.
Well, autonomous doesn't necessarily mean networked. Theoretically you could have it walled off directly, connect a cell phone to update maps and the like, and have it offline in general.
This.
Yes it does. You can't have them operate in traffic if they don't talk to each other. And they can't navigate at all without being hooked to some king of GPS. Without that, they are navigating by dead reckoning on a map.
No, it doesn't. They won't be able to communicate with with older vehicles, pedestrians, lamp posts, construction barriers, kids on bicycles, etc. It's essential that they work without a network.
Sure. But they will work a hundred times better when they can communicate with other vehicles. The Google car only goes 25 mph over terrain that has been 3D mapped. To get the real results, they will need to talk to each other and the world around them. They are going to be networked. They have to be. Worse, our cars will be as well.
A walled-off network? I think that they should get the Mexicans to pay for it...
Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.

We all appreciate your expert insight.
Hey just because security is worse today than it ever has been and the more things get networked the worse security gets, doesn't mean they wont' get it right. Top men and all.
So much claimed, so little support given.
I'm trying to recall a legal essay that came to the conclusion that private law is the only way to insure liberty, I can't recall the title, or the author but I know it wasn't by any of the immediately recognizable big names ie Hoppe Friedman etc. can anyone help me out?
John Hasnas? The Depoliticization of Law and The Obviousness of Anarchy sound like they fit the bill.
Bruce Benson is another possibility.
OK, my Hasnas link didn't come through... http://faculty.msb.edu/hasnasj/GTWebSite/TP3.htm
Thank you so much that is the who I was looking for, +1 internet to you sir, the essay i was after though was the myth of the rule of law. link for the lazy: http://faculty.msb.edu/hasnasj.....ythWeb.htm

New England Prep School steps up to provide "Elitist, White-Privilege Rape Culture" narrative where Jackie & UVA failed
" A former student at an elite New Hampshire prep school went on trial Monday on charges he raped a 15-year-old girl on campus. But it's not just the defendant who's facing judgment.
The rape allegedly occurred at the prestigious St. Paul's School, whose alumni include Secretary of State John Kerry, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Garry Trudeau and several members of Congress. The trial is expected to cast a spotlight on unsavory aspects of the boarding school's on-campus sexual culture ? including accusations of graduating boys' competitive pursuit of younger students.
The defendant, 19-year-old Owen Labrie, is accused of raping the freshman girl on the roof of one of the Episcopalian school's buildings in May 2014, just before he graduated. He has been charged with three counts of aggravated felony sex assault, four counts of misdemeanor sex assault, endangering the welfare of a child and using a computer to lure her to meet him via email and Facebook. "
But it's not Elitist, White-Privilege Southern narrative! I mean, this school clearly cranks out only the best of Top!Men!
Has there been a string of rapes at this school lately? Maybe it's all those bad things and more (and what do the alumni have to do with anything?), but one rape does not a culture make. Also, how do you get seven counts of sexual assault for a single act?
For each thrust?
read the story
the context is that graduating seniors have a ritual of trying to bang as many freshman as possible near their graduation date
its called, "Senior Salute". rape culture
(never mind that it appears the frosh are ostensibly willing - its statutory regardless)

Hmm, did the famous shower scene in Psycho include an homage to Cecil B. DeMille? Considering that Hitchcock was a fan of DeMille and the movie was made just after DeMille's death then yes it is quite likely.
So, I've never watched OITNB, but I imagine it's got at least one stereotypical inmate who will make a new inmate her bitch.

I laughed. Don't watch the show either though, sorry.
While I normally loathe large swaths of the writing in The Guardian, this article was actually interesting. I've always believed that tech creates more jobs than it destroys, but it's worth being reminded by people who did some research into and thinking about what the trade-offs have been.
