Brickbat: Everybody Cut Footloose

Chinese officials have grown tired of the millions of elderly women who gather to square dance in public areas across the country each day. Some urban residents complain they are noisy and a public nuisance. So the national government has introduced a list of 12 approved dances and says it will be coming out with further regulations on times and places the dances can be held as well as noise levels.

I assume that one of the dances that will be forbidden is the Lambada.
But of course...
If they can just ban the Macarena, then 70 years of murderous tyranny will have been worth it.
I think this is another sign of how lame the current generation is - they are telling the older generation to shut up, while in the past, it was the older people who said that to the young people.
"Get off my public space!"
If our Lord wasn't testing us, how would you account for the proliferation, these days, of this obscene rock and roll music, with its gospel of easy sexuality and relaxed morality?
If only life imitated art:)
But what about the important issues. Is China joining the boycott of Indiana?
Six degrees of Kevin Bacon. BTW, wonder he could get service at a Muslim bakery.
How do you say "May I do the Boot Scoot" in Mandarin?
I believe the English to mandarin to English translation is:
"If you are wanting for to do the dancing of the Boogie From The Boot Scooting, must obtain first permission. Once permission obtained commencement of the Dancing may me allowed in fantastic circling. Please for asking now to dance."
+1
Sounds more Hindu than Mandarin.
How is China going to maintain all that high speed rail if they piss off all the granny dancers?
They tied the rails together, man!
They can dance if they want to, if they don't they ain't no friends of mine.
They can dance if they want to. They can reave their fliends behind.
Prus won
Males lacking headgear carefully capering?
I eagerly await the Friedman editorial saying how this will spur the Chinese economy and what a good thing it is. The new construction of stage dance halls alone will generate wealth beyond belief!
State dance halls.
Face it. You long for those dance hall days.
You're gonna get Wang Chunged upside the head if I open that and it is what I think it is.
Neener neener, you can't get me, I'm doing the safety dance!
I will accept the Safety Dance to cancel out Wang Chung. Hell, I'd rather listen to Go West than those guys.
"The Most Dazzling Folk Style" and "Little Apple"
And Psy's "Horse Dance", one presumes.
Jesus. Tori Spelling was brought up in the last comments thread as well. Is it her birthday?
A list of horse face actresses

For a fun exercise, future such stories should leave off geographically identifying information and let us guess if it's China, California/New York, or the UK/Europe.
The percentage of error in such guessing should be very edifying.
