Brickbat: Journalistic Ethics

The editor of an Urdu-language newspaper in India faces criminal charges and death threats after reprinting a 2006 cover from the magazine Charlie Hebdo depicting Mohammad crying. "You are free to write anything in our country, but you are not free to hurt religious sentiments," said Nusrat Ali, a reporter with a rival newspaper who was among the people filing a complaint about the cartoon.

You are free to write anything in our country, but you are not free to hurt religious sentiments...
Seems like conflicting messages there. Oh, I know, why not outlaw butthurtedness?
Dear Nusrat Ali - Freedom of Expression is an article of faith to me. Your attempt to stifle it hurts my religious sentiments. Say what you will but please stop trying to force others to not say what they will.
When people talk about not offending people, what they ultimately prove to mean is not offending the favored people.
Let's see what Mighty Mo himself had to say on the subject of insults:
would that be patridental circumcision?
Oooh, he's down Cotton, it looks like his feelings are hurt. He's not coming back in the fourth quarter!
This might be my clown college education talking, but I think I see a pattern here.

You went to clown college? Aww. I only went to regular college. We didn't learn about Islam, we learned about things like phase modulation and other ways of encoding data on electromagnetic waves that I don't get to use day to day.
Sorry to disappoint, but I did not actually go to clown college. I now wish I had.
I went to Bovine University- where greatness is learned and couches are burned.

At least rioting and couch burning are associated skills that you might get to use. While I might run fiber lines, I've never needed to care about the refractive index or why the light follows the bends. I just needed to make sure I had the kind with the correct connectors for our current architecture.
My chemical engineering degree was not particularly relevant to my previous jobs as a process engineer in a bubble wrap factory and a plastic bag factory. It was a little relevant when I worked in sapphire wafer factory.
Your colsolation prize was that when the day was done, there was something tangible you could point at and say "I helped make that". I'm a metabureaucrat, I provide services to other bureaucrats who crunch numbers, mostly for other bureaucrats. Even our "public" consists of former or potential bureaucrats and their families.
Yeah, I'm going to stop wallowing in that. I could use a tension sheet right about now. (You lose geek poins if you miss the reference.)
PS, how many other people noticed that sapphire 'glass' is transparent aluminum?
True. I have fixed things and saved tens of thousands of dollars by getting things to run more efficiently. And the pay is certainly better than when I was working the night shift in a Chicago liquor store 2 years ago. I had that job for 3 days.
Sapphire is actually a crystal form of aluminum oxide, same as bauxite. Most other precious are also aluminum oxide with different impurities that give different colors.
*precious gems
a ruby is aluminum oxide and chromium
pure aluminum oxide crystal is transparent
I thought Michigan State was "Couch-Burning U"? Guess there's more than one.
Kill Fartana (a slave girl of Abdullah ibn Khatal)
"Fartana"? Really?
Coming soon:
Warty Hugeman and the Slave Girl Fartana
He was a time-traveling brute. She a harem slave with intestinal distress. Together they would make love... and history.
And in Saudi Arabia a man was given the death penalty for renouncing Islam. Most ( all? ) Islamic countries have these kind of laws and they are popular with their populations. I'm sure they would execute 'witches'too. Tell me more about the crusades.
Not only would they, but they do. I forget how many they executed last year, but it was nonzero.
Yeah, it's a ruthless religion the way it's being practiced. In many ways by the exact words of their god.
Mo's wife said he sat down to pee:
When Richard Burton was posing as a Muslim in order to enter Mecca, he nearly blew his cover when he was caught peeing while standing.
You know, anyone who tries to push "living the way the prophet did" needs to give up their Kalashnikovs and explosives and try to carry out their jihad with swords and bows. Otherwise, they're just posers.
+ 1 meet Allah quick
On some Arab comedy show, there was a skit where an ISIS guy gets a cab, then complains about the music playing on the radio. The driver stops and tells him to get out and catch camel if he's so big on imitating Mohammed.
That could happen in Saudi Arabia .But the cab driver would be arrested.
I read that Burton himself disputed that claim, stating that it was not possible to urinate from a standing position in pilgrim?s garb.
See his biography, "Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton".
Dear Nursat Ali,
Suck my dick.
Regards,
Rufus

Fuck you again, just for good measure.
