I still can't get over having her play Daria in the live action movie and then not changing her hair color.

What are the root causes of Friday Funnies?

    1. AlmightyJB   10 years ago

      That's not true.

  4. John Galt   10 years ago

Even if the problem was they just didn't have jobs I still wouldn't see how that's going to help us since those who have been appointed to rule over us only know how to destroy jobs; not create them.

    1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

Since the fact is pretty much all of the positively identified Jihadis had jobs and chose to leave them to go killing, the base assertion is as absurd as it appears on its face.

      1. WTF   10 years ago

Yeah, but BOOOSH once said something that might have been superficially similar, so it's not ridiculous after all!

At least Washington has a job: manufacturing absurdities.

            2. BakedPenguin   10 years ago

If Miss Dotson here approached me and offered to perform an act with a Shetland Pony for $5, what laws, besides cruelty to animals, would be broken?

              1. invisible furry hand   10 years ago

the law of supply and demand, for one. Surely the market rate is higher than that. Where's Heroic Mulatto when you need him?

                1. BakedPenguin   10 years ago

ifh, that was a botched quote to go along with Almanian's botched quote from The Enforcer, a Dirty Harry movie.

                  1. invisible furry hand   10 years ago

Botched, eh? A man's got to know his limitations. A woman too, for that matter.

                    1. Almanian!   10 years ago

                      Speling not mye fortay

    2. AlmightyJB   10 years ago

And if you want to ensure that they never have jobs, put the US Government in charge of their jobs program.

      1. SimonJester   10 years ago

        +1

    3. Bill Dalasio   10 years ago

The actual evidence with regard to poverty and terrorism actually goes against the whole jobs theory. Terrorists are much more likely to be from the more affluent elements of these societies.

      1. Anomalous   10 years ago

Osama bin Laden's family was incredibly wealthy.

  5. Will4Freedom   10 years ago

They have jobs. Build bombs. Kill people. Die. Get 72 virgins... and if that one guy is correct, each virgin has 72 hand maidens. I'm sure flipping burgers for minimum wage sounds much better to a horny young Muslim.

    1. Ballz   10 years ago

How long do they stay virgins? Can you get a mulligan?

  6. Slammer   10 years ago

We need to go after the root causes that lead people to join these groups

Is she referring to jihadis, the state department, or the summit on countering violent extremism? Or 'cartoonists'? Because it's not very clear from the drawing.

    1. UnCivilServant   10 years ago

I think she means Libertarian and Right-Wing 'Domestic Terror' organizations who are opposed to her base ideology in some way shape or form.

      1. John Galt   10 years ago

        It's good to be Queen.

  7. John Galt   10 years ago

Bah. Everyone knows the real cause of Islamic terrorism is "Anthropogenic Global Warming."

    1. WTF   10 years ago

Well, that goes without saying. AGW causes everything bad to happen.

      1. John Galt   10 years ago

Not too many years ago AGW alarmism practiced to the point of religion probably would've landed it's practitioners in a mental institution. Today it's one of several psychotic obsessions that are sure to win Nobel Prizes. Oh, how the times are a changing!

    2. sarcasmic   10 years ago

You jest, but that argument has already been made. You see, droughts caused by man-made climate change caused people to move from rural areas to urban areas. Lacking jobs in the urban centers, young men turned to religious fanaticism. This caused the uprising in Syria, which has spread throughout the Middle East. And it's all caused by our reliance on fossil fuels.

      1. creech   10 years ago

More likely, the absence of capitalism in their nations has led to a lack of "niches" for young men who then go adventuring as they have for most of history (as per the first explosive growth of Islam 1300 years ago.)

        1. Free Society   10 years ago

The absence of capitalism is a result of their religion's non-conducive nature in regards to capital accumulation. If you can't have rational finance and insurance industries you don't have the solid foundation for freeish markets to exist. To name but two of Islam's economically destructive failings.

          1. sarcasmic   10 years ago

But, but, but charging rent for lent money isn't fair!

    3. Almanian!   10 years ago

The cause is autism, which is itself caused by the Global Warming. Get it right.

      1. Unreconstructed   10 years ago

Wait, I thought that was vaccines! Did the science get settled when I wasn't looking?

    4. Mike M.   10 years ago

Isn't it amazing how "global warming" causes the breaking of century-old record low temps?

      1. Tony   10 years ago

Yet it's still been a warmer-than-average winter. And the contiguous US still only takes up 1.5% of the earth's surface.

        1. kbolino   10 years ago

Your ability to contribute nothing of substance while trying to make yourself appear intelligent is truly amazing.

  8. Will4Freedom   10 years ago

Could this actually be a brilliant ploy? Kind of like when the police set up a sting and tell all the wanted criminals they've won a prize, then arrest them when they show up to claim it?

When the Jihadists show up for jobs, we nab them. Brilliant!

Could our fearless leader be THAT smart?

    1. John Galt   10 years ago

You're giving them far, far too much credit. For them to hatch a scheme like that they'd have to rise way up to functioning at the level of imbeciles.

    2. Almanian!   10 years ago

      no

  9. John Galt   10 years ago

Well, I must admit the ole Bokster really captured the essence of Harf. Goofy, dim, quad-cross-eyed..

  10. Fist of Etiquette   10 years ago

Why is Reese Witherspoon wearing a pearls and a black straightjacket?

    1. Almanian!   10 years ago

I didn't realize she was into bondage.

      I'll be in my bunk...

  11. Almanian!   10 years ago

I did not realize that a young Hillary Rodham had worked for the State Department, and that said State Department was so far ahead of its time in identifying what would be the future cause of so much strife in the world.

    Awful. Therefore, perfect.

Happy Friday, Reasonoids! Suki's dead, and I wish you were, too.

    1. Drake   10 years ago

They are all Young Hillarys there - they should start a girl band with that name.

      1. Scruffy Nerfherder   10 years ago

Ha! I've got a hardcore conservative college friend who's a deputy director there. He's been trying to stay overseas as much as possible the last few years.

  12. Will Nonya   10 years ago

I suppose that's better than better than the ill conceived "Cash for Caliphates" program.

Turn in your used Caliphate for cash to use towards a shiny new Caliphate...

    1. Pathogen   10 years ago

Two shootings, two weeks: This is the second time in less than two weeks that a Gastonia Police officer has shot to kill. On Saturday, Feb. 7, officer Josh Lefevers and other emergency personnel were checking on 74-year-old James Howard Allen at his home.

After Allen didn't answer the door, firefighters broke in through the back door, worried Allen may have had a medical emergency. Instead, Allen met the officer with a gun and refused to drop the weapon.

  15. SimonJester   10 years ago

Aren't they worried about Job Lock?! I mean really, where is the compassion! The last thing we need is for more people to be stuck working for employers in stable positions for non-fluctuating sallaries! On the humanity!

  16. Kuwanki   10 years ago

The cartoon is too nuanced for me to understand.

  17. MJGreen   10 years ago

That is indeed what she said. Truly withering, Bok.
