Brickbat: Driven Off

A Saudi court has ruled that two women who defied the nation's ban on female drivers should be tried in a special court set up to deal with terrorism cases. Loujain al-Hathloul and Maysa al-Arnoudi have been in detention since being arrested almost a month ago.

If the Saudis, and Washington DC, don't get back in line with western civilization, nerds should open up a can of targeted devastation on them.
Anyone who's had to deal with women drivers knows what terror is. Am I right, fellas?
Your thoroughly documented assertion intrigues me. Please tell me more.
That's so amusing it could be a Friday Funnies
But seriously, folks...........
I'm trying to find statistics on this but having trouble. Looks to me that males, unsurprisingly, have more accidents, drive faster, etc. etc. If nothing else, insurance rates are higher for males, which would make one think that women are better drivers.
However, from glancing at the statistics, it appears that males pay on average 9% more for insurance, but drive 50% more miles! I have yet to find a site that shows statistics that would convince me which gender comprises the "safer driver" on a per mile basis.
There's this.
No. This.
No. This.
Good stuff! I look forward to the day when Americans have as many dash cams as the Russians.

That's what makes men better drivers.
You're using the wrong metric.
The proper metric to judge drivers is "Nothing their dumb asses do ever slows me down or inconveniences me or annoys me for even a second."
By this metric, men are better drivers. The marginal additional annoyance men add because they get into accidents slightly more frequently is not nearly enough to offset the incredible amount of annoyance generated by the run of the mill nonsense women continually engage in.
I think most people use the "frequency of accidents" metric more than the "run of the mill nonsense" (whatever that means) metric when determining a bad driver. We know car insurance companies do, at least.
It would seem to me that if men drive *50%* more miles while only get charged *9%* more for insurance, that that would be a pretty convincing metric saying men are (on average) safer drivers per mile than women.
After all - its the insurance company that is paying out, they have a strong incentive to get the numbers right.
But . . .
How safe men v. women are may also depend on age ranges compared. that number looks like its for *overall* differences, and male drivers in any particular category *may* be safer than their female counterparts but a young male driver may be more dangerous than a middle-aged female driver - or even reverse during certain age ranges.
All good drivers are alike, each bad driver is bad in their own way
However, from glancing at the statistics, it appears that males pay on average 9% more for insurance, but drive 50% more miles!
Link?
I'd imagine most of that extra mileage comes from commercial drivers who don't pay their own insurance, and also keep in mind there are many insurance policies that cover multiple drivers. It's not an easy comparison to make.
My understanding is that the stereotype came from back in the day before power steering existed. Women being physically weaker than men on average actually were worse drivers as they had trouble turning the wheel.
Maybe they could issue permits that allow them to drive if their father or brother are in the car.
while it is true that women are treated poorly in Saudi Arabia... I think it is humbling for us to remember that some American women are not given carte blanche to lie about being raped. Feminism can only address one abuse at a time.
You are a very mean person. Of COURSE the White Middle Class women who make up the Feminist movement in the U.S. are more conceded with their little problems than they are with the serious issues faced by women whose skin is, let's face it, brown.
My best friend's step-mother makes $88 /hr on the computer . She has been fired for seven months but last month her paycheck was $14014 just working on the computer for a few hours.

I hate to be the one to tell you, danielle, but your best friend's step-mother is into porn.
That works out at just under 40 hours a week, which sounds exhausting and messy.
If sex isn't "exhausting and messy" then you're probably doing it wrong.
Why do I say fucking instead of making love? Because if you're doing it right, you're fucking.-Red Foxx
And not just vanilla pron. At $88 and hour, I'm not even sure she's sticking to the same species.
In other news the SEC got raped by the Big 10 yesterday.
What was the Securities and Exchange Commission doing in that neighborhood anyway?
Don't tell the feminists on those campuses.
They'll stone you when you're riding in your car.
So glad that we're propping up the King and his cronies.
The Saudis are a problem. On the one hand, they are as nasty a collection of Royalist twits as you are likely to meet. Their human rights record in abysmal and they generate terrorism the way Hollywood generates idiocy. But they do administer the Hajj better than anyone in its history. WE certainly don't want to have to, and having that part of the world fall into the hands of what would likely replace them doesn't sound smart either.
Saudi law has a proviso allowing women to drive cars if they're loaded with bombs and she's driving the vehicle to the Israeli embassy.
If you read the linked article, they were not sent to the alternative court for merely driving, but for comments they made on social media posts about driving. The article doesn't go into further detail about the content of the verboten comments.
I wonder also if there are other reasons. The article notes that the terrorism court is in Riyadh. Maybe it's a way to sweep it under the rug without the local publicity it would otherwise get which is probably what the two women would like. Or it's a less public venue so that journalists can't show up either?
It's probably just the usual disrespect of authority in that the women didn't apologize and bow and scrape and promise to never do it again. So the State must make an example of them.
