No Exam Delay for Oberlin Students 'Traumatized' By Grand Jury Decisions

Last week, Robby wrote here about how "students are so coddled by the feelings-protection regime at university campuses that they now believe disheartening national news developments—such as the grand jury decisions in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases—entitle them to final exam extensions." Columbia Law School delayed final exams for students who felt unable to take them in the wake these developments. Students at Harvard and Georgetown began demanding their universities follow suit.
One might think that Oberlin College, known for it's ultra-crunchy reputation, would be all about this. At least one professor at Oberlin, however, is having none of it:

So, that made me laugh enough to want to pass it on. Notice that the student who sent the email isn't writing on behalf of herself but that of black students she just knows must be too traumatized to take exams and yet unable to speak for themselves. Good for Professor Raney for quickly and succinctly putting an end to this nonsense.
After receiving her professor's response, the student posted the exchange publicly to Facebook, with the message: "TRIGGER WARNING: Violent language regarding an extremely dismissive response from a professor. This is an email exchange I had with my professor this evening. … We are obviously not preaching to the choir. Professors and administration at Oberlin need to be held accountable for their words and actions and have a responsibility to their students."
But I don't mean to pick too much on this student, an Oberlin freshman. This is the environment she's inherited and set of social cues she's learned from people who should know far better—like professors and administrators at Ivy League law schools, for a start.

Update: More rejection for Oberlin students seeking a repreive from academics-as-usual in the wake of recent incidents of police violence. From wkyc.com:
Students at Oberlin College asked for a "mercy reprieve" for their grades because hundreds of students participated in demonstrations in Oberlin and Cleveland in the wake of the fatal police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland, the shooting death of Michael Brown by a suburban St. Louis officer and the death of Eric Garner in New York, according to the student newspaper The Oberlin Review.
President Marvin Krislov responded with an email to students on Sunday, saying he and the college's deans opted not to grant the reprieve after giving the request serious consideration.
Can you imagine previous generations of civil rights activists asking their college professors for "complete flexibility in what students are saying they can produce academically"?
Here's more from the Oberlin undergraduates' petition:
Students in this moment should have complete access to alternative modes of learning while we process what's happening. Basically, no student, especially black students and students of color, should be failing a class this semester. A 'C' should be the lowest grade students can receive this semester.
Is it any wonder more than 1,300 students signed the petition?
In Krislov's response, he pointed out that the school had extended the deadlines for requesting incompletes and changing from a letter grade to Pass/No Pass, and he urged students to talk to professors individually if they were having trouble completing assignments. (You know, like aspiring adults do.) However, "suspending grading protocols is not the way to achieve our shared goal of ensuring that students have every opportunity and resource to succeed," Krislov wrote.

I thought he lived on a houseboat.
He lives in a van down by the river. Duh.
"I'll postpone the stat exam for students of color, but not you, because you're white."
Then when whites and Asians end up being better at stats, they'll indignantly ask why.
Depends if the exam is graded on a curve, and if the student's are segre --er-- separated and scored along a curve bia --uh-- according to their ethnicity. Now that would be progressive!
Affirmative action at its best!
Affirmative action is the most pervasive, prevalent and institutionalized example of privilege in America.
Privilege (defn) 'a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people.'
Ah, if only more Professors were like Raney and used the power of tenure for good instead of evil.
The pity is that he had to use two letters to respond.
If only he could have been briefer in his "dismissive" response.
Isn't there a flip-off emoji?
I have a nice ascii one, but the comment window keeps collapsing the white space.

That's cool but I always liked this:

Imma let you finish, but PapayaSF had the best flip-off emoji of all time. Of all time!
I concur
Does that really count as an emoji, though, or would it be more properly categorized as an emoticon?
A rune
A cunning attempt to trick me
I would've used two different letters.
Ho!
I looked the guy up, and I don't think he has tenure. He is a "Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics." I wouldn't be surprised if he'll be out of a job as soon as he finishes grading this semester's exams.
Raney appears to be a visiting assistant professor of mathematics. So, no tenure.
Why not? She is presumably an adult and therefore old enough to think for herself. This sort of inanity needs to be mocked mercilessly every time, or it will never go away.
She's certainly brazen to publicize the professor's response and invite criticism upon him. I say she's fair game to heaps of ridicule and outright scorn for being a presumptuous little ass.
She needs to be punished...maybe a trip to the Castle Anthrax would do her some good?
Maybe the ever popular weekend with the pain monster?
She's an imbecile, but she doesn't deserve to do time with Warty.
Oh wait, you said pain monster.
A weekend at a frat house?
A spanking! A spanking!
... Couldn't I have just a bit of peril?
The bigotry of low expectations.
I love the brevity of just "no". Not even fuck no. Just, do your fucking job as a student already, packed in one word.
Imagine my surprise that the delicate flower has a hyphenated last name. That triggers me, right there.
Yeah, I only have one, non-hyphenated last name. What's up with that? Can I have the rest of the day off?
Non-hyphenated privilege
Do you really think the top hat and monocle were invented by someone with a hyphenated name?
Her hypenated-prvilege can beat the crap out of Ayn's non-hypenated-privilege.
Oh, and "Bugger Warning!". Wait, I mean "Trigger Warning!"
Always get the two mixed up.
Seems like a bit of an odd thing to pick out.
Do you really think that hyphenated names are an indicator of anything?
Hyphenated names are silly for several reasons, but so is the presumption that a child takes its father's name.
Do you really think that hyphenated names are an indicator of anything?
They're a sign (not a guarantee, but an indicator) that the child comes from a feminist mother and a father who goes along with it. Its an SJW dog whistle, if you will.
Not always. You also have the case of unwed parents who give the kid both names.
That was the case of the boy I babysat as a teenager. I don't think their parents were uber liberal feminazis or anything.
It's more an indicator of a mother who had an established career and didn't want to lose the professional identity they'd previously built up by changing their name (e.g. Glenn Reynold's wife is still Helen Smith).
It's more an indicator of having a wealthy mother than a feminist one, per se.
that's the woman declining to change name- not giving the child hyphenation.
I understand this and really have no problem with it. It's the hyphenates that are silly.
If Jill Smith-Johnson marries John Williams-Sonoma, will they name their child David Smith-Williams-Sonoma-Johnson, or what?
Pick a fucking name and go with it.
Or when Bill John-Jacob marries Jill Jingleheimer-Schmidt do you get a John-Jacob-Jingleheimer-Schmidt?
Hey! My name too!
You clever jerk, you.
no, what you get, is the heat death of the universe...
it is obvious that hyphen-people don't care about the universe, because in only 2 or 3 generations (do the math!), the materials used for name tags alone will require the resources of a small galaxy...
for my money, i would simply combine both names when you get married: Joe Smith and Jane Johnson get married, and their name becomes Jane & Joe Smithson, or whatever combination they want to invent...
hyphen-people are simply clueless, no matter their political designation.
Okay. Tyler Durden.
You are not you're fucking khakis!
It depends. If you are an Anglo Social Justice Warrior or a Latino sexist, the child's name should be:
David Williams-Sonoma-Smith-Johnson
However, if you are an Anglo sexist or a Latino Social Justice Warrior, the child's name should be:
David Smith-Johnson-Williams-Sonoma
Goddammit RC, you triggered a bunch of people here. Warn us next time.
I don't have a hyphenated last name, but it triggered me on behalf of those who do.
*wipes away tears*
LOL
actually, there is no father, although I thought one was needed. Anywho: http://www.threesixtyjournalis.....exmarriage
If I cared enough to RTFA, it may explain where her sperm donor came from, I just have no desire to read it.
Guess what? There is two mother and no father. You think I am joking but google the kids' name, which thanks to hyphenation is super-easy

+1 Bo imitation
Oh, fuck off. There are a million things to criticize about the letter and someone goes right to the most irrelevant thing possible. It's odd.
"Oh, fuck off."
+1 Sevo imitation!
I'm an original, damn it!
I'm an original, damn it!
Me too!
I dunno, a hint as to the sort of upbringing that produced this specimen isn't the most irrelevant thing possible.
For what it's worth, apparently her parents are Jewish lesbians who attend synagogue.
I'm confident someone will ask you to elaborate with a
"Go on...."
Article
I read the religious part somewhere else.
I have no doubt that she was on the receiving end of some crap during her school years.
I wonder why the Jewish lesbians sent her to St. Paul's. (Because the local public school was full of Black kids and underperforming unionized teachers?)
Oh FFS it's Central High IN St. Paul, Minnesota. Well, everything I said is fake but accurate.
St. Paul Central is a public school.
"I have no doubt that she was on the receiving end of some crap during her school years."
I agree. I wasn't there to see the extent to which her classmates taunted/bullied her so I'm not going to speculate whether or not her experiences were life-altering/emotionally damaging for a long period of time.
I was fortunate to have an overdeveloped (and often unjustified) sense of self-worth and a natural ability to verbally skewer would-be bullies. Being obdurate and quick-witted with the scathing personal remarks served me well.
Actually, looking back, I'm surprised that I wasn't beaten down for some of the things that flew out of my mouth.
Wow ? another memory. That crap didn't fly at home. Mother's blindingly-fast backhand cured me halfway through some smartass observation.
Perhaps TMI.
St. Paul. Ugh. Yet another reason why I refuse to cross the river to that shit side of Minnesoda.
But it's a duck hunter's paradise!
You may have read this:
"We joined a synagogue that was totally accepting," Kurzer added. "We went to the kids' schools?every time they had a new teacher, we talked to the teacher. When we got a pediatrician when Della was born, we interviewed a bunch of different pediatricians and said, 'How do you feel about gay people and lesbian families?"
Source: http://www.threesixtyjournalis.....exmarriage
We've move a long way from "The Greatest Generation". Sheesh!
I have no doubt that she was on the receiving end of some crap during her school years.
I'm utterly filled with doubt. Maybe it's 'cause I live in Seattle, but I can think of several children... hell... yep, one is even an immediate family member who's got two moms. Not a one receives an ounce of shit.
Go on....
Aaand, my suspicion that the hyphenated name is a flag for SJW upbringing is confirmed.
Could be confirmation bias too.
But as I say, being an Oberlin student is probably a much better indicator of what kind of person with what kind of parents she is.
Her parents were willing to pay for Oberlin. I think that is enough right there.
RC actually underestimated the idiocy of the parents based on the one little trigger.
" Do you really think that hyphenated names are an indicator of anything?"
Experience says yes, yes it is.
"Do you really think that hyphenated names are an indicator of anything?"
No proof has been presented to disprove the hypothesis that hypenated-name-Americans are not, generally, douchebags.
Do you really think that hyphenated names are an indicator of anything?
I've long been fascinated with how reliable hyphenation actually is as an indicator. So yes, I also really think that.
To me the hilarious thing is that when Mr. Hyphenated-Name marries Ms. Also-Hyphenated, what does the kid's last name become? Hyphenated-Name-Also-Hyphenated?
It was never a sustainable change, which makes it so funny that the eco-aware set went for it.
Yes. It seems like they should have opted for the mother's maiden name as a middle name tradition. I'm sure they're all racists and that's why they didnt.
I think that if people want to get away from the patrilineal name tradition they should just invent a new name when they get married.
I've thought this, too. A lot of the arguments against the patrilineal name tradition also apply to matrilineal naming. The most logical alternative is to choose or make up your own name when you come of age.
People do this. They combine the two last names to make a new one, like celebrity couples or something.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....03617.html
For example, a Mr. Pugh and Ms. Griffin are now Mr. and Mrs. Puffin, and Mr. Gatts and Ms. Harley became Mr. and Mrs. Hatts, according to the Daily Mail.
And TN made it illegal.

I'd pick Mxzyptlk or Lex-Luthor.
Kltpyzxm! Kltpyzxm! Kltpyzxm!
This is what happens: Dunkijacobsnolten (as in Dunki, Jacobs and Nolten). Nice lady, but that's what happens when your parents are hippies and one already has a hyphenated name.
Yes, sometimes this is continued up to four names. At some point, obviously, someone has to make some "hard" choices.
The Spanish have a whole system to handle it.
Subject covered in the South Park "Smug Storm" episode.
Based on experience, yes, hyphenated names are an indicator of a SJW. This email is more evidence.
Guy I work with and his wife both changed their last name to Banner when they got married. Came up with it watching The Avengers. Kind of different.
Kind of funny I posted this and the next comment was about smashing things:)
It's not a presumption. It's a cultural convention or custom.
Those that choose to defy that convention by choosing to take both mother and father's last names (and I bet her DL has just her father's last name) are likely to be SJWs fighting the good fight against the patriarchy.
Now, those in the media or with well-established names are free not to change their name upon marriage because marketing is expensive. That's entirely different that hyphenating to make a statement.
Well, the House of Saxa-Coburg-Gotha is pretty privileged. English Royal family and all.
A bent toward hamburgers or...
"TRIGGER WARNING: Violent language regarding an extremely dismissive response from a professor..."
Urge to smash things... rising...
I didn't get that one either. Where, exactly is the violent language? Was part of the student's response to the response omitted? In what possible sense can the word "No", be construed as violent?
Well, it does trigger the rape subroutines that have been programmed into all penises.
I didn't read it but I think she was referring to her own language.
"TRIGGER WARNING: Violent language regarding an extremely dismissive response from a professor..."
Key words is "Regarding." She is using the supposedly violent language in her response.
Aside: How can language be violent, it cannot perform actions?
The "violence" comes from his immediate dismissal of her request without even a nod to her all-important feelings. She's used to having her two mommies explain everything to her in such great detail, beginning with things like why it would be better for her to express herself artistically on the easel they bought her for her 2nd birthday, instead of on the living room wall. This is a little girl who from birth has probably never been told "NO! Stop that! Get away from there. NOW, DAMMIT!" To finally hear "No" at age 18 in a manner that doesn't let her down easily while acknowledging the completely reasonable and noble nature of her request had to have been so jarring that "violent" likely would be the word that comes to her.
I think trigger warnings are ways of enticing people to read your otherwise unreadable tripe. They click hoping to see something interesting.
Post a video entitled NSFW on YouTube and watch it get 10K hits in a day.
Spot on!
Holy hell. "No" is violent language. This alone should dismiss the whole trigger warning movement. This is how trigger warnings are used.
Oh, I figured the violent language must have been her own comments on facebook.
I didn't think that any language could be violent. Violence is a physical thing, isn't it?
That's what I thought at first too, but there's no link to check and I thought ENB posted the entirety of the Facebook post. Looking at it again, I see there is an ellipses, so perhaps the student posted her own "violent language."
Which ought to say a lot about her.
I arrived at the same understanding, MJ.
That was almost the entirety of it. The ... part just said "Please take note of the time stamp -- he did not read my email before responding." '
Was going to drop the link in here, but apparently the post has been deleted or privatized since this morning.
Good snag then!
I like how the precious little snowflake thinks it would take more than a minute to read through her email and write a one word response, as if her prose were so brilliant that the professor would need time to reflect on its full meaning.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.
Unless the word "no" is printed on a baseball bat, it has no chance of committing violence... and even the word cannot swing a bat so...
Though, if you have developed an email bat (or sledgehammer), can I get a beta? I suspect that would sell pretty well in the US.
I only wish. For now, just buy an Apple Watch and strap it to your standard bat and hit send.
Um... thats the last thing every oberlin girl said before they were imaginary raped in their head.
No should have been accompanied with a victim trump card. Professor needed to claim emotional trauma from delaying the exam because of the upcoming holidays and the historical marginalization of his particular religion.
Festivus is right around the corner!
I have my list of grievances to air. it is long and will only be outdone by my feats of strength.
How can you be violent and dismissive at the same time?
"He dismissively hit her head with a hammer over and over, causing several skull fractures."
"The dismissive collision on the interstate shut down traffic in both directions."
"The Japanese Imperial troops' dismissiveness of the Comfort Women caused endless suffering."
And how can "No" be "extremely" dismissive? It's the most normal, level-headed way a person can dismiss something.
It's only extremely dismissive to someone who's not used to hearing it.
Nice.
She is used to being told no in a long, tender, round-about way so as to prepare her for rejection in the most considerate way possible, and I am guessing that has not happened very many times.
For someone to just outright say 'no' was like a slap in her face.
Pathetic.
as in "It's not you. It's me. So, no."
When I ask a woman to have sex with me, does that mean she's oppressing me if she says no? I can work with that.
"When his wife interrupted the football game to talk about Christmas shopping, he backhanded her dismissively."
(TIWTANLW?)
Damnit, you can't go around saying things like "no" to these special, pampered children and expect to have no consequences...
Refusal to submit unquestioningly to SJW sanctimony equals violence.
It's saying that there were violent responses on her Facebook page to the prof's dismissive "no" that might trigger the reader to further violent responses.
Or, IOW, "It might get your blood boiling to read the shit we said about this #$%^*& POS"
Any sensible person receiving a job resume that mentions Oberlin College, will immediately throw it in the trash.
Could you imagine the dolt that would actually hire someone from this awful place?
Could you imagine the dolt that would actually hire someone from this awful place?
Oh absolutely. I picture an Oberlin alum who currently runs some little corner of a city/state/federal bureaucracy hiring exclusively people from this awful place.

^^^This.
The conservatory is well regarded. At these schools, there are a slew of very vocal, social justice kids who skate through with patty-cake coursework, but also a lot of students who major in science and other useful things who go on to be successful.
My daughter went through the Conservatory. A number of her friends did double majors and are earning 6 figures right out of school. Oberlin has a hard core of prognuts, but quite a few less intense progs as well. But almost no conservatives.
I actually had three hyper-conservative cousins go there. Or at least, their father was hyper-conservative. My cousins, on the other hand, have turned out to be intelligent, reasonable people.
Granted, they went to Oberlin's conservatory. But then they actually joined serious musical groups.
But I don't mean to pick too much on this student, an Oberlin freshman.
Why not? She's a collectivist shithead who then goes on to essentially try and get people to hold the professor "to account" because he didn't want to even countenance her asinine request. So a bully too.
If the internet had been around when I was in school, I might have been somewhat hesitant to criticize a professor on it the day before a final exam.
Why not? Now when she gets an unacceptable grade she can complain to the Dean that she was retaliated against. Also her social status at Oberlin is probably skyrocketing. It's win-win for her.
Oh wait, "when you were in school" your school faculty and staff were probably all sane people. Never mind.
Yeah, but that's probably because you have both a three digit IQ and logical thought processes.
100 bucks says that this professor will soon be issuing an apology. Any takers?
Depends. Does the professor have tenure?
The "NO" to the Special Snowflake is promising. But what will the Oberlin administration threaten him with?
The guy is a Visiting Assistant Prof in Math. He is getting some nice stuff on his Rate My Prof page. Sample:
That is beautiful
No takers.
But I hope you are wrong.
Googling her name shows that "Della Kurzer-Zlotnick" has been active in "Anti-Bullying" campaigns since the 7th grade. I am afraid we are going to hear from her for the rest of our lives.
It looks like she learned how to be a bully pretty well from that experience.
I imagine she's been "bullied" from birth, so ... destiny.
"*** snort *** No, really, what's your name?"
"Della should be in detention, 'cause shes a Kurzer!"
"Why did Della go to a gynecologist? Zlotnick."
They should have left out the Della and named her Kurzer Zlotnick or Zlotnick Kurzer.
I would imagine that if you scratch most people who self-describe as "anti-bullying", you will find...a bully.
It's basically the culture of the professional kitchen. Even I do it unconsciously and I really take pains to try not to because it's fucking horrible to do to people and doesn't make them better at their jobs. That picture of her someone posted just looks like she relishes it being her turn to bully someone and she can barely contain it.
Yup. Hazing. "I got bullied, now it's your turn!"
You have no idea. Here is the latest email from the racist guidance counselor at my son's school.
Basically, if a kid doesn't wear orange on the designated day, the school starts working him/her over to make him or her feel bad for not clapping hard enough thereby killing Tinkerbell.
Naturally the bullies dress in orange, and the guys they snare are the nerds who are oblivious to things like color and clothing style. The very people who are more likely to be the victims of bullying than the guys who are wearing orange, and the people least likely to be going around bullying other people.
The tribe needs an enemy, why would you deny them that?
The color orange is triggering for me because my dad went to prison when I was younger.
Orange you glad they didn't say "banana"?
"Our family are Irish Catholics from Northern Ireland, the color Orange is triggering for us..."
Etc.
I would love to see people fuck with them over this.
If I were not in a bitter custody dispute, with SJW types in DCF looking of any excuse to paint me as a bad guy, that is precisely what I'd do.
But, in the end, the best revenge is living well.
But, in the end, the best revenge is living well.
And by "living well" I assume you mean "seeing your enemies cast before you and hearing the lamentations of their women".
Send your kid to school in an orange prison outfit. But do it every day.
I'm not playing this stupid game.
My kid already has a giant target painted on his back by my ex-wife - who would love to have the school admin label him as a troublemaker to further her twisted plans.
The best revenge is living well, and my kid will someday have a comfortable life with a woman who loves him and children who adore him and want to be like him, and a large circle of friends and colleagues who respect him; that nasty stultified racist piece of trash will be a forgotten footnote whose name - years from now - will be a forgotten mystery to all the survivors who managed to get away unmolested after being driven in front of her lair by the system.
And I thought my ex-wife was a bitch.
You have no idea.
Someday, when this is all over, I will tell you guys the tale of what has been happening the past 5 months, and it will so horrify some of you that their teeth will be turned snow-white.
I am an old man who smokes cigarettes and drinks coffee.....I look forward to that.
Those $30 packets of teeth-whitening strips really work.
Sorry, bro. Hang in there.
For what it's worth, I'm sorry to hear it.
Every time I hear someone talk about custody or anything relating to children and their ex-wife, I thank the old Gods and the new for my marriage failing to produce progeny.
Everytime I hear someone talk about custody or anything relating to children and their ex-wife, I thank the old gods and the new for my specialization in custody/divorce law.
Or also blindfold him a tie his hands behind his back to protest Guantanamo.
If I had any orange clothes, I'd save them to wear on St. Patrick's Day.
And you said what I was thinking, that this is going to show how the State is the biggest bully of them all by sanctioning the bullying of those who don't wear orange.
I've found that punching their lights out ends bullying very quickly.
Who the fuck has orange clothes? Do they expect parents to go out and buy special outfits for this shit?
Do they expect parents to go out and buy special outfits for this shit?
Why miss a chance to make the children of not-so-well-off parents stand out?
Fans of: Tennessee, Texas, Clemson, Syracuse, Florida etc.
And the Dutch...and the Barn.
In Colorado, there are lots of Bronco clothes.
In my part of rural Colorado, a high proportion of girls and boys own a blaze orange sweatshirt and/or vest for rifle season.
Apparently so. "Our family is economically disadvantaged, we can't afford to buy new clothing for little Duane for every school event. Why are you othering poor people?"
Yeah, I thought of that, too. I've never owned anything orange.
Orange is the new African-American.
[Gives FC that "swiss" look]
So John Boehner would just need to go in naked?
*shudders*
Homeschool, just saying...
They had a gay pride protest thing (NTTAWWT)at Penn State that I was vaguely aware of. Right before I turned the corner this girl looked at me and said to this boy "He's wearing black". I thought this was odd, I was just wearing my usual motorcycle clothes. I turned the corner and there was this huge protest for gay rights and the color theme was black. Luckily, I was on a break and heading home
so I could change into blue jeans and red T-shirt, but was stuck with the leather jacket.
So, a homophobe, eh?
What is it they say about traitors? They are the first ones to sign the loyalty oath.
Just because one does not wear orange on a specific day has no bearing on whether one is for or against bullying. These always seem like pointless gestures to me. As do any of the social media "pass-this-along-in-support-of-XYZ". Just because I do not pass along your picture or post does not mean in any way I am for what you are against. It simply means that I choose not to post your post.
Imagine her being president.
Imagine her Birkenstock clad foot stamping your face, forever.
Dude, forget imagining it!
We could make a killing selling that shit on a pay-for-access porn website!
Looks like I'm going to be out of a job soon so I'm in. I'd prefer it not be my face, though.

Drake wins.
I read that as "Drake twins" and immediately did a Google Image search. I am disappoint.
I'm honestly surprised GIS didn't turn up something non-disappointing (I mean it wouldn't be Oberlin related but...)
Looks like the two moms did some bullying of their own.
Are wool panties considered ethical or is that still cruel to sheep?
She looks exactly like this kid.
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3861956608/ch0009249
What did that kid ever do to you?
Looks like an anal opportunity.
I hope any guy who sticks it in her has notarized approval forms signed by her, and video of the encounter.
I'm pretty sure the parents are raising her to be a lesbian.
Gay people generally know better than to try to change someone's orientation, 'Finger.
Gay people don't know any better than anyone else.
Besides, we're assuming the two moms are born lesbians when they may simply be attention-seeking man-haters, raising their daughter to be one.
Well, she's clearly not into modifying her appearance to entice the opposite gender. She reminds me of the hippie chicks I knew in the '70s who thought makeup was a patriarchal ploy.
And industrial-grade condoms. Gah!
Hilariously, Raney now has several high rantings on RateMyProfessors that include such comments as "I don't attend Oberlin, nor do I ever plan on going to that liberal hellhole. However, I saw him shut down some liberal piece of garbage with one word, and it was beautiful. Take this class."
Raney now has several high rantings
Don't ever change.
Goddammit, I've been infected with the John Virus.
John Titor and John are acutally two different posters. But yes, that's a great typo.
"No", he explained!
"No", he mansplained.
But I don't mean to pick too much on this student, an Oberlin freshman. This is the environment she's inherited and set of social cues she's learned from people who should know far better?like professors and administrators at Ivy League law schools, for a start.
You should pick on her. She's an adult. Inherited environment isn't an excuse. She is now one of those people who should know better.
Intelligent people realize, at some point, that they don't have to conform to the environment they inherit.
You don't change things by doing the same thing that everyone else is doing - that's just copying their error and proliferating them. You have to deviate.
And at some point, the counter-culture becomes the culture, which then requires a new counter-culture because no culture is going to get anything 100% right.
The thing that sticks out most to me is the notion that people "suffered significant trauma" because of the grand jury failures to indict. If you can suffer significant trauma from something like that, you probably need to be hospitalized or something. You are not equipped to function in reality. What would be hilarious would be to see some black student group respond to this girl with something along the lines of "stop patronizing us, you stupid twat".
Except she would enjoy the privilege check. She'd tell the story for years about how she had authentic interaction with some black people, how there was consciousness raising on both sides.
authentic interaction with some black people
+1 "I speak jive"
This reminds if this girl I dated who was really impressed that I was able to act like myself around her black friends. I was like "how the fuck am I supposed to act?" and then "you must have some shitty friends." Of course, I grew up in the South and she thought her SoCal high school was diverse because they had a couple of black kids.
^^THIS. I grew up in Alabama and now I'm in Colorado (where you almost never see an African American). Racism, privilege, etc is a huge deal in Colorado.
In Alabama, it still lingers, but the younger generations for the most part don't really have a problem with it.
And believe it or not, football actually brings a lot of people together.
Football definitely brings people together down here. Odd story: We had a black WR who moved down from Wisconsin my junior year. He gets a locker next to my best friend's, the very first time my best friend meets the guy he casually says "hey man, what's up." Dude goes off on a fucking five minute diatribe about patronizing language blah blah blah. The whole locker room was staring at him until our (black) fullback yelled "Shut the fuck up Wisconsin". And his nickname was Wisconsin until graduation. Thing was, he actually ended up being a decent guy, but had heard a bunch of shit about how racist the south was. Weirdest thing to me(at least at the time) was that our team was about half black and half white. Did he think we started throwing bricks at each other and forming lynch mobs after practice?
Did he think we started throwing bricks at each other and forming lynch mobs after practice?
Shirts vs pointy hoods.
"Hey man, what's up" is "patronizing language" in a school locker room? On what planet?
My grandfather (whom I respect the hell out of) once told my mom that he thought black people being good at sports was God's way of reminding him not to judge people by the color of their skin.
I remember hearing stories about Bear Bryant inviting the black running back from the opposing team into the (all white at the time)Alabama locker room after losing in the Rose Bowl, and saying "Boys, this is a football player."
"Boys, this is a football player."
Good thing they were all white, no?
The story is somewhat apochryphal. None of the players from Alabama remember it. More likely he said that to the boosters and admin at the game to try to sway their opinions.
For sure, she would blog about how her privilege got in the way of her truly understanding the plight of those poor black people.
had authentic interaction with some black people
The very idea that she would probably phrase it this way instead "I talked to that person." is enough to tell me that she sees them differently. Not as individuals, but as a separate group of people.
Either that or she'd break down in tears.
Oh, she'd cry at the time, I have no doubt about that. But in the retelling she'd fare much better.
If you can suffer significant trauma from something like that, you probably need to be hospitalized or something. You are not equipped to function in reality.
One would hope that the harsh reality of the world waiting outside of Oberlin would eliminate most of these thin-skinned, maladjusted losers, or at least cause them to question their worldview and adjust accordingly.
I'm sure some percentage of them escape the real world via a self-perpetuating cycle of nonproductivity. They hire each other as Affirmative Action Counselors, Mental Health Advisers, masseuses, life coaches, editors, etc.
If there's only a few of them and if the world knows well enough not to indulge them, yes. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the way things are going.
My sister went to UofO, which is uber lib town in uber liberal Oregon. It's stunning how much she has moved to the right when she was hit with reality.
Even at Oberlin, there's only so much bullshit a professor can take.
I'm surprised no one picked up on the most asinine part of this:
"No." is now a language!
Beat me by a couple of minutes.
Since when is a typed "No" violent language?
When it's refusing to do exactly what she wants. There's obviously an entitlement mentality tied into all this.
Exactly. The word "No" triggers an emotional response that causes her to, through no fault of her own, become violent.
I see a rewarding career in law enforcement in her future.
Sigh.
These SJW people have developed patterns of communication that require COPIOUS and ENDLESS 'signaling' in order to be sent/received as "approved" messages. The content of said messages is almost meaningless (in fact, often is) in relation to the amount of necessary-garbage that must be attached in order to send the required signal of "In Crowd"-membership.
Failure to use the unspoken code means you are suggesting that you might in fact be an "out-crowd" member, which is by definition hateful and wrong-thinking. It indicates a refusal to 'play along', and is met with immediate and vicious attack.
Example =
..."You see, what they are 'participating' in is 'a process of exchange' where the 'concerns of each party' are dramatically emphasized to show that we need to 'enlarge our perspective' and 'open our minds' to consider the lived experiences of others and not 'restrict the dialogue' or otherwise set the tone for conditions that might 'other' certain parties or trigger feelings of unsafety..."
Which is to say = 'talking'
They don't talk - they 'signal'
The lack of signaling in the prof's declaratory "No" therefore 'means' far more to the deranged SJW - it includes a wealth of assumptions about the person's utter lack of concern for minority students or their associated activist handlers, and possibly even antipathy towards their efforts to agitate for greater awareness in the community.... blah blah blah blah
Bingo. It's all about wrapping the turd in SJW-approved wrapping paper with a victimhood bow.
Well, it's also about wrapping their bullying behavior (because let's face it, every single tactic the SJWs use comes down to bullying) in soothing language that is intended to distract people from what they're actually doing. They may be bullying, but they call it "caring" or "social justice", and it fools a lot of people.
Somebody around here called them "crybullies".
A term I have found occasion to use.
Ken White of Popehat coined the term to describe cops. And it's so perfect, I use it frequently.
crybullies
Not bad, though I don't know if it conveys their viciousness enough. The SJWs have proven themselves, especially recently, to be extremely nasty.
That's mostly used on cops, but if the moniker fits...
So SJW comms are encrypted.
"So SJW comms are encrypted"
'encryption' suggests that there is a 'message' which has been translated into an undecipherable form except for the intended recipient
Thats not what they do with language at all.
Their comms have no internal 'message' in it at all. The content of their language is utterly meaningless and disposable. its all symbolic pantomime of 'talking'. Like the teacher in charlie brown cartoons = "wah wah wah wah, WAH wah wah. Wah wah. Wha?"
The 'meaning' for the SJW is not in the content, but in the pattern of the social pantomime of communication.
In this case, actually responding directly to the content of the message was an unexpected consequence = the SJW probably would have herself expected to have unwanted messages ignored, because that is what She would have done.
The expected pattern of communication might have alternatively 'directed her to the appropriate bureaucratic office where student concerns could be addressed'...
i.e. 'deflected'. Because that is also something She would have done.
She would herself never actually responded to any direct request with a direct answer. She does not expect other people to either. 'Failing to dance' was not expected.
The teacher could have shut her down a dozen different ways that would have left her satisfied. But the teacher failed to follow the SJW signaling process, and is consequently now an enemy that must be destroyed.
The trigger warning should be for those of us who don't deal well with stupid people who have an overweening sense of entitlement.
I think "Oberlin" was the trigger warning.
In this case, this poor lass believes that by saying "no" to her request, the professor is actually denying the pain of black people everywhere. By saying "no," this professor has said "yes" to more black pain. And thus, "no" becomes violent.
Jesus Christ, that's got to be the longest time I've had to channel my inner prog-snowflake-socialjusticewarrior-feminazi and I am fucking exhausted. No wonder these people are always getting triggered, their thoughts feel exactly like a five year old trying to explain Pokemon to a ninety year old... Which is basically gibberish disguised as deep logic.
My son has had eleven graduates from his school die in the two years he has been in college. Two of them he knew personally.

Didn't even get one day off.
Seems like this was a math class, perhaps?
http://new.oberlin.edu/arts-an.....id=4409499
I guess being triggered trumps hard drive crashed which trumps dog at my homework which trumps Grok pissed a dinosaur off?
She said, "statistics" in her email
You didn't expect our young genius SJW to be a math/science major did you? She's doing stats because she can be done with all math requirements thereafter and focus on the really good upper division coursework with far more practical applications, like Feminist Ceramics or the Ancient African Polytheism.
Absolutely not! But I think the excuses are an increasing function of the difficulty of the material.
I wonder if she asked any other professors for an extension?
OMG HE WORKS IN THE KING BUILDING, HE MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE PATRIARCHY!
/progderp
Sociology students usually have to take a stats class.
One of the many marvelous things about math is that it is pretty near impossible to insert politics into it. I never had any idea at all of the politics of any math professor.
I apologize in advance.
Then again, it's a psychology study, so take it with a grain of salt.
Which is what they need statistics for = to politicize math
Yes, but statistics can be used as politically-loaded math.
Yeah, but the math part is still rigorous.
Actually, I avoided statistics classes in college (as a math major) for almost that reason. Just didn't seem as solid as the math I was interested in. Now I wish I had done more with it, though. As much as it can be used for bad purposes, it's pretty impossible to do good science without it either.
I felt it was useful for me (at that age) to see how politically-loaded statistics get created in the first place. It wasn't necessarily the goal of the class nor of the prof, but it seemed helpful to me in spotting good statistics and bullshit statistics. I'm sure an SJW would get the exact opposite from a statistics course.
Read the classic book How to Lie with Statistics, and you'll know probably 90% of what you need to know about statistics. It's short and very entertaining.
Not really. The math isn't politically-loaded. It's use (or more often misuse) is. If someone did accounting for a political group, would they be guilty of politically-loaded accounting?
If only. This was the text to a course of the same name I took my freshman year. (I later figured out that I had tested out of it and could have gone straight to calc. More fool me.)
If you think it looks innocuous enough, allow me to paraphrase one of the word problems that stuck with me:
John owns a plot of ocean front property with dimensions X x Y with a constant downward grade toward the coast of Z degrees. Ocean levels are projected to rise 500ft (!) in the next century. What percentage of John's land will remain above water a hundred years from now?
I had a math professor who was a born-again Christian but never talked about it. She just taught math and was good at it.
Professors and administration at Oberlin need to be held accountable for their words and actions and have a responsibility to their students."
Do it, Sweetie.
DO IT.
Drop out. Stop subsidizing the ultra conservative SoCon cesspool which is Oberlin College. Starbucks is always hiring.
Lol. The customer is always right.
"Can you put this scalding hot coffee over your genitalia"
"N-, I mean, I will have to ask my manager."
LOL
I think this girl should check her privilege. By taking it upon herself (by 'shouldering the white woman's burden' if you will) she has denied her black classmates their agency, has shown that she believes privileged white women should be at the forefront of the movement to restore black personhood in the face of neo-liberal and neo-colonialist aggression, and has deeply triggered me.
Her email address is there for all to see. You wouldn't, would you? I mean, you wouldn't create a hotmail address and send her this link or anything?
god, I hope not. She might become our newest troll.
Bring. It. On.
If this girl is triggered by the word 'no' she would slit her wrists after two days of parsing the slime and villainy that festers in the H&R comment section.
What if this girl is actually an H&R regular is who just trolling Oberlin?
Stop that.
Can't be. There are no female libertarians.
She looks like a millennial, so we're probably safe.
I happen to like trolls. They break up the entertaining, though occasionally monotonous, ideological homogeneity of this place. Let's face it, we only ever really have interesting discussions on a few topics (abortion, etc.) because there isn't a lot of room for interpretation in libertarianism. The trolls provide a target for new conversations, even if those conversations mostly revolve around shooting down logical fallacies.
Until it turns into a Tony tu quoque.
Never. I'd use my brother's practically unused hotmail account instead.
Honestly, one of the only way to really fight back against these people is to use their own tools against them - they don't respect 'logic' and reject any kind of argument if its perceived to be coming from the wrong sender... so you ultimately have to twist their own retarded rationales back on them to point out the internal inconsistencies in their arbitrary demands for specialness.
The SJWs are almost entirely upper middle class white women (and their beta-male hangers-on); they make ridiculous efforts to make themselves into victims somehow (see: Rape Culture) so that they can also claim to speak on behalf of ALL 'victim classes'. In the process, they inevitably go a step too far in assuming that they and the actual 'victims' must necessarily be on the same page.
the consequences can be hilarious sometimes; I suspect that the best people to enlist in the cause of undermining the SJWs are in fact, "Angry Black Women", as the video there shows.
My favorite lately is "cultural appropriation". Hasn't the rest of the world been appropriating the fuck out of American culture for a long time now?
No. When people copy American culture it's because that culture was imperialistically thrust upon them.
Therefore, when Indians go to McDonalds it's because of our cultural imperialism, but when a white girl belly dances it's cultural appropriation.
Do you see?
Right. And Indian culture was never imperially thrust on anyone.
It wasn't since Ezra Klein was born, which is the beginning of prog history.
Bollywood?
And that's a bad thing, why? Isn't appropriating the aspects of other cultures that are useful what cultures are supposed to do?
Silly Zeb. Every right thinking person knows that America has no culture, or, if it does, it has an evil culture that only corrupts.
Nice
Are you Black Irish?

Real civil rights activists across history weep for the decline of their legacy.
Having read her e-mail in full, I have only this to say:
Dumber
and
dumber
and
dumber
and
dumber
and
dumber.
This country is doomed. Some day soon, space aliens will arrive in Washington and buy the entire nation for the equivalent of a handful of bottle caps and some pocket lint.
I, for one, welcome our new overlords.
Dumber, or possibly a great bullshit artist who knows how to get extra time for exams. It didn't work on this professor, but it would have for some others.
If something happens to you personally, I can see asking to take an exam later. I had a friend run to the front of the room and vomit in a trash can right before the exams were handed out in Calc. 3 because she had just gotten an internship with NASA and was nervous she might lose it if she didn't well in the class.
I had another friend who was a diabetic and her blood sugar dropped like a rock and she almost passed out in her desk during an exam.
Asking for more time because something happened to someone else is unacceptable. My engineering program had, on average, two suicides a semester just in my discipline of engineering. No one asked for extensions on anything.
In my masters program, we had a woman give birth the day of the exam.
She begged the professor to let her take the exam the same day as everyone else because she said
1) she was really bored in the hospital
2) the hospital was providing day-care anyway and when she got out of the hospital finding a sitter would be a hassle.
So, 5 hours after she gave birth, the prof faxed the exam to the maternity ward, a nurse proctored, and then they faxed the exam back. The prof clearly thought she was insane, but he didn't need to write up a make-up exam, so why complain?
The next semester we teased her for her dedication.
She got an A BTW.
Awesome.
My daughter was born during finals week. I took my final exam in discrete signal processing 3 hours after she was born.
It was a long labor and I spent 24 hours in the hospital prior to having the kid, so I studied there while my wife dithered.
Same thing as your friend. I just wanted everything to be over.
As people have shown, if you actually know the material, life stress isn't going to make you unlearn it.
I can't even remember the class anymore, but I felt I didn't know the material well enough so I planned on going to the library 3 hours before the final exam to study/cram. On the way to school my car broke down on Lake Shore Drive in rush hour and I barely made it to school in time for the test. Got a B on the final. Guess I knew it well enough, though my personal standard was obviously a little higher.
So she was able to have a baby? Way to make me feel othered tarran
Sudden, I have an idea!!!
Suppose we agree that you can't actually have babies, not having a womb, which is nobody's fault, not even the Romans', but that you can have the right to have babies.
We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, Sudden!
"She got an A BTW."
but, then so did everyone else.
In Pa virtually all the public schools are closed on the Monday after Thanksgiving for the first day of buck season. However, when I went to Pitt, school was open professors liked to give tests that day to encourage students to not take an even longer holiday weekend.
So one year I was out in the woods from about 7 to 10 am, then drove onto campus for my 10:30 exam. I moved my unloaded rifle from the back seat to the trunk, then went to class in my Army field jacket and orange vest, with my knife (for gutting) on my belt.
These days I'd probably be arrested or even shot down by campus cops.
As I read her sniveling appeal for a reprieve from her responsibilities, I became even more impressed with the professor's self-control. I would have melted that snowflake with the searing heat of a thousand suns.

What kind of an idiot posts their school email address publicly? I'm guessing she'll be on the receiving end of some, er, vivid emails.
All from libertarians, no doubt
TRIGGER WARNING: Don't teach us Rape Law - it hurts our little feelings and we prefer to remain ignorant.
http://www.newyorker.com/news/.....g-rape-law
One teacher I know was recently asked by a student not to use the word "violate" in class?as in "Does this conduct violate the law?"?because the word was triggering. Some students have even suggested that rape law should not be taught because of its potential to cause distress.
Don't cross the streams!
Well then, I guess referring to a "penetrating analysis" is right out.
How do these law students expect to handle a case in court, whether for the defense or the prosecution, if they refused to study it in college, and could potentially break down emotionally in the court room?
I'd say, "Sorry, you fail - you are not lawyer material"
That begs for a response along the lines of "are you fucking stupid?"
-jcr
The responsibility they have to their students is to expeditiously and effectively provide an education in the subjects they teach, not hold students' goddamn hand for four years.
Remind me never to hire Della Kurzer-Zlotnick.
"I need time off because a grand jury decision in another state, that has nothing to do with me, has upset me."
It's not like she was ever going to be capable of holding a job in the real world anyway.
She's going to end up with some kind of tax-sucking "job" interfering with worthwhile people who are trying to pursue productive activities. My guess is that she'll be a "diversity consultant" or a "community organizer".
-jcr
Wait a minute. If saying "no" is "violent, triggering language," then women should not use that word when men ask for sex....
Grab its leg!
Thank God someone has the courage to use the n-word!
It's almost as if this precious little dew drop, fresh off the turnip truck, has never before heard the word "no" addressed to her unequivocally and unrepentantly.
Oh, she's heard it a few times, but it's been years.
"Mommy, can I have a toy gun?"
"No."
"Can I have a Barbie?"
"No."
"Can I go see The Transformers?"
"No."
"The Little Mermaid?"
"No."
"Is Santa Claus real?"
"No."
I think that girl is essentially abused, but she needs to exert her intellect and overcome her toxic upbringing.
I think her parents were Jewish. Don't they worship Santa Claus as a god or something?
I am betting that is the case.
alt text:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
This headline juxtaposed with the picture of that crying baby in the next article is just fucking priceless.
If they can keep the satirical nature of the paper from her, she would be a bang up writer for The Onion.
Thank God there has been justice for Ofc. Wilson.
We had a case very similar locally, except the (naked unarmed) man DID get the cops' gun and executed him (literally emptied the cops' gun into his head while he lay on the ground).
The difference between Wilson (alive) and Dep. Herzog (dead) is that Wilson defended himself successfully and is thus a villain. Herzon, who was executed instead since he wasnt able to retain his gun *(and he was a former army ranger, hardly a pussy, and the guy was NOWHERE near Brown's size, who at 289 lbs WAS very close in size to Hulk Hogan's reported "fighting weight" of 302). I'm Ofc. Wilson's weight and 220 is nowhere NEAR 290. 290 is fucking huge. Consider that the UPPER WEIGHT LIMIT for UFC HEAVYWEIGHTS is 265.
Brock Lesnar has to get down to 265 to fight. Granted, he puffs back up after weigh-in night just like everybody else, but a 290 lb guy is fucking huge
The other difference between Herzog (a white cop) and Wilson is that nobody made issue of the race of the guy that killed him because race is never an issue *(usually not even MENTIONED unless suspect is at large) when cop is shot but is always a issue when cop shoots somebody
40% of people shot by police are black men and 40% of cops are shot by black men per City Journal (Heather MacDonald etc.)
NO disparity.
Where are the SJW's lamenting the sexism of the police since less than 4% of those shot by cops are wimmins, who make up the MAJORITY of the population!
Herzog's shooting (naked unarmed man)... RUNNING IN TRAFFIC (lots of similarities)
note that according to FBILEJ and Calibre Press, 80% of the time a suspect gets a cops gun, he will shoot him with it.
http://community.seattletimes......deputy23m0
Note: no hoopla about the race of the deputy or the suspect. Heck, most articles make no mention of it... but when the officer shoots!!!... of course they do
Dunphy, why don't you do the people you supposedly are sworn to serve and protect a big favor?
Sit down in the locker room at your station, take out your service weapon, and paint the far wall with your brains.
Society will gain in that there will be one fewer psychopaths in its ranks, and the people you are sworn to protect will be a little safer. Do it for them. And please, hurry! Every breath you take lengthens the danger that decent people face in your presence.
Much as it pains me to admit dunphy ever having an accurate read on things, I do think his discourse about the race aspect of police shootings is accurate and I actually agree that, if nothing else, there was at least reason to believe Wilson acted in self-defense in the Michael Brown case.
Of course, dunphy lacks credibility for his knee-jerk defense of all things thin blue line, but I guess even the broken clock is right twice a day.
What Dunphy is doing is threadjacking, because he is a cry bully and needs attention.
And no amount of being right on one particular issue would make up for his advocacy that the police be allowed to murder people with impunity.
He is a piece of garbage, devoid of honor, a coward, and humanity would be better off if he stopped polluting it with his presence.
Witness 40
amateur anthropologist who randomly goes to black neighborhoods? that made me chuckle.
sounds like perjury.
There was more than witness who testified that Brown charged Wilson, and the blood trail supported those accounts.
*more than ONE witness
smooches! I will continue to be a working class hero and you will continue to be a nobody who posts from his mama's basement with his ivory tower nonsense

rubbish. I have called out EVERY issue of ACTUAL police brutality ever presented here.
It's just that Ofc. Wilson's case is so obviously JUSTIFIED and the grand jury decision so clearly justified as well
it's hardly knee jerk. I rarely disagree with actual intelligent analysis of police conduct such as seen at volokh.com (hardly cop apologists)
it's been pretty clear even to many cop critics here who have called Reason.com out for it recently, that it's REASON that has become knee jerk cop attackers.
and Balko much as I respect him, was recently called out for some ridiculously false statements in one of his recent screeds and not be cops, but by actual journalists.
unlike people here, i have actually fought police misconduct, sued for it (and won) and testified against officers for committing misconduct
so spare em your rubbish
What's your intelligent analysis of the Tamir Rice shooting?
AS I SAID... clearly unjustified and likely criminal

here's a copy and paste of my post which resulted in some moron bringing up that stupid case about the guy who got shot for answering the door with a gun in his hand. iow, a comoletely irrelevant tangent but typical... It's nice to see Reason present an ACTUAL apparent case of police brutality and possibly murder when they have been spouting such absurd crap in regards to Ferguson that even many hit and runners are calling bullshit and defending the officer
When H&R's do THAT, you can be pretty clear the shark has been jumped
Of course the ignorati will always respond to actual (ok, apparent at this point) police brutality and predict I will explain it away despite the fact that several times this year I have commented on incidents of obvious police brutality or misconduct etc. and condemn the officer's. I am the first person to say this is bullshit when it is and from what I can see of this case this is bullshit
As a person with actual experience of deadly force incidents at Cetera who is actually been presented with deadly force etc. etc. Unlike most of the reason navelgazing ivory tower do nothings I can look at a case like this and go unless there something I'm missing this cop is seriously fucked up and probably should be indicted
Hth
Good to see you have some reasoning ability.
and next time some moron claims I always apologize for police (which i never do WHEN they are clearly wrong) or that i "ignore" obvious cases of police misconduct, consider the proof that I just posted above.
and consider that when I DID make that post, the response was some screed by some moron about some OTHER case.. iow, "yea but ..."
typical of the idjits who ignore uncomfortable truths

no, i dont
you answer the door to the police with a gun in your hand and you only have yourself to blame for your death
it was true then and it's true now.
OTOh, as i just demonstrated in demonstrated ACTUAL police misconduct (and possibly murder) as in cleveland, I call it like it is - unjustified and possibily murder
but again, you answe the door to the police with a gun in your hand- fuck you.
and you can keep bringing this case up ad infinitum and it just makes you look stupid
the cops were not indicted in that incident because anybody with common sense understands the fucking moron was his own worst enemy

and keep bringing up this stupid irrelevancy, it just makes you look stupider
Good to know Dunphy is sticking to his original call that a man standing in his own apartment, who is suspected of no crime, can and should be gunned down on the spot by armed agents of the state for having the nerve to hold a gun when strangers are banging on his door at 2 in the morning.
Yeah, he's still a purblind piece of entitled crap in my book. Occasionally says things that aren't entirely wrong, but its all coming from the same rotted husk of a human being.
I should thank Dunphy.
Now instead of having to click on my link to see the proof that Dunphy was lying when he says he calls out police brutality, they can just read his responses where he with his own words shows himself to be a liar.
The pathetic thing is that the piece of garbage thinks he is winning an argument as he once again discredits himself.
What a contemptible cry-bully.
Notice Dunphy ignores the people knocking on stranger's doors in the middle of the night with guns in their hands. It is only justifiable to shoot the homeowner/non-cop.
you answer the door to the police with a gun in your hand
Which might be relevant if the police identified themselves...
Which might be relevant if the police identified themselves...
Shhhhhhhhh! Don't let facts get in the way of the narrative!
... and were in uniform instead of dressed in plainclothes, which last I checked is also what CRIMINALS LIKE THE MURDERER THEY WERE HUNTING WEAR!
you answer the door to the police with a gun in your hand and you only have yourself to blame for your death
So you are a piece of shit. Thanks for clearing it up for us. For a long time I wanted to give Dunphy credit for being more or less on the right side of things. But he's lost that lately (assuming Dunphy is one person).
Sorry, bud, any criminal can yell "Police, open the door" just as well as actual police. Fuck you.
For a long time I wanted to give Dunphy credit for being more or less on the right side of things.
He claims to be on the right side of the drug war, but then again he has bragged about working undercover. That means he has deceitfully developed friendship and trust with people in the drug trade, only to use it to send them to prison.
Yeah. He's a piece of shit alright.
At this point I put cops who enforce drug laws on the far side of the line where "just doing my job" is an excuse for evil. Along with Nazi war criminals.
He claims to call out actual cases of police brutality. He gets Tamir Rice right. So that leaves Eric Garner, John Crawford, Kelly Thomas, David Hooks...
YET AGAIN, DUNPHY STUPIDLY LIES.
It's not a lie, he just takes it as axiomatic that only he can spot ACTUAL police brutality, and therefore if he doesn't think it's police brutality then it isn't.
You can't be wrong if you control all the definitions.
and again, in the case where the guy was shot when he came to the door with a gun in his hand, the cops were not indicted and of course REASONABLE cop critics like at volokh.com wont agree wit you... there was no indictment of the police and they apparently did nothing wrong
again, come to the door with a gun in your hand to answer the police and you are own fucking worst enemy
idiots keep rehashing this stupid case as if it proves some point, but it only proves what ridiculous kneejerk cop bashers they are, since anybody with a brain ignores that case since it is such an example of somebody crying out "please shoot me police officers!!!!!"
Dunphy you craven piece of (at least tonight ) druken piece of shit. I hope you read this sober tomorrow.
If someone knocks at your door and you have a gun in your hand when you open the door, is it a good shoot if they blow you away when you open the door ?
Sober up and change your ways dipshit.
YET AGAIN, DUNPHY STUPIDLY LIES.
Oh, that thread. Tulpa sucked so much cop cock on that one I bet his jaw was sore for a week.
In that thread Tulpa brought the ethos of Debbie Does Dallas to the field of cop-fellating.
and im still waiting for the indictment for brutality in the case of the guy who got shot for coming to the door with a gun in his hand!!!!
oh wait,
OUTSIDE REASONOIDS RAREFIED CLIME OF ANTIPOLICE KNEEJERK IDIOCY, IN THE REAL WORLD, PEOPLE SEE THAT CASE FOR WHAT IT IS - A GUY BEGGING 'PLEASE MR POLICEMAN SHOOT ME. I WILL GET SYMPATHY FROM SOME KNEEJERK COP HATERS AT REASON.COM AND THAT'S ENOUGH FOR ME. FML. I WANT TO DIE. HELP ME OUT. DERP DERP DERP'
So if a guy knocked on the door of a cop's house at 1:30 am and the cop answered the door with a gun in his hand because he was afraid that the guy might mean him harm, the guy would totally be justified in shooting the cop, right?
So if a guy knocked on the door of a cop's house at 1:30 am and the cop answered the door with a gun in his hand because he was afraid that the guy might mean him harm, the guy would totally be justified in shooting the cop, right?
LMAOROTF!
No, because...cop. Or something.
"No indictment means I'm right." Wow, Dunphy really is a total piece of shit.
Yes, there is no possible way that dangerous criminals could pretend to be police, so there is no possible reason why he might want to be ready to defend himself when people pound on his door in the middle of the night.
Fuck you, pig. People have a right to defend themselves with guns in their home. Even against people who yell "police". An innocent, sleeping resident has no obligation to give the benefit of the doubt to a group of violent men pounding on his door. The police do have a duty to make damn sure they don't kill an innocent person just trying to defend his home. Fuck. You.
again, out here in the real world, nobody answers the door to the a police knock with a gun in their hand. unless they want to get shot.
rational people a la volokh.com and just normal salt of the earth people recogmnize this , which is why outside the rarefied clime, nobody gave two shits about this obviously justified shooting.
if you doubt the guys knocking at your door are the police, you DONT FUCKING ANSWER THE DOOR.
duh.
you call 911.
even if they werent the police, why would you OPEN the door to multiple armed individuals with you presenting one against many ? It makes NO SENSE unless you are makign such bad decisions as those who WANT to get shot by police make.
i made this point at the time. it's the "normal person" reaction that reasonoids who look for ANY way to twist an incident into the "cops were wrong" gloss over.
im not saying theres not reason to question it's police.
im saying IF that is true - DONT OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR.
that's what normal people do.
i've seen countless times, in patrol, IN THE REAL WORLD, where i come to a door late at nightIN UNIFORM and ive had the homeowner VERIFY MY IDENTITY by calling 911 and i give them my name etc and they verify with dispatchers that i am who i say i am
NOBODY faults you for doing that.
its' the difference between seeing blue lights behind you as a solitary woman at 2 am and DRIVING THE SPEED LIMIT to a well lit parking lot before you pull over and GUNNING THE EVIDENCE AND RECKLESSLY eluding the police
the former is justified. the latter is not
again, in 20 yrs of law enforecment and literally THOUSANDS of door knocks, ive had PLENTY of people doubt i am the police
ive had ZERO come to the door with gun in hand and this in a jurisdiction where TONS of people own guns
in the real world, this is how RATIONAL people act
and irrational fucksticks who do come to the door with gun n hand to the cops, which literally must be less than 1/20,000 or something because its never happened in my career or any other i am aware of... only have themselves to blame
THAT iS WHY ACTUAL reasonable people arent all verklempt but the reason anticop squad thinks this case is some kind of gross injustice
it is the paradigmatic example of how twisted you becomes when your "i hate cop" engine starts to overwhelm your otherwise rational thought processes
hth
So if a guy knocked on the door of a cop's house at 1:30 am and the cop answered the door with a gun in his hand because he was afraid that the guy might mean him harm, the guy would totally be justified in shooting the cop, right?
Let me explain to why you are wrong.
There are plenty of good reasons for not calling the cops every time someone knocks on your house late at night. Not everyone cowers in fear and runs to the police when faced with a potential threat. Some people may not want to make a person wait in the event they need help. Some people may not want to draw the attention of the police.
And there is good reason to have a weapon on hand when you answer the door. Reasonable people may think the person knocking at the door is *probably* not a threat, but simply want to be prepared. Reasonable people may simply want to project a strong image.
But even if you reject all that, and think this guy was an idiot, you are still wrong. BECAUSE BEING AN IDIOT IS NOT A CAPITAL CRIME. People don't deserve death for simply acting in a way that a cop finds unreasonable. And simply holding a gun, on your own property, while answer the door late at night, is not evidence of an imminent threat justifying the use of deadly force.
Your assertion that the guy must have wanted to get gunned down by the cops is absurd. If that was the case, why would he sit around, gun at his side, waiting for the cops to MAKE A MISTAKE and knock on his door? Why not waltz into the local precinct gun's ablazing?
Answer: Because he ACTUALLY just wanted to defend himself in case he was in danger.
You're wrong.
xoxoxo
Tarran, your suggestion implies that dumpy HAS brains, which is by no means certain. He might be a relatively short Python script.

How about the other case that you conveniently ignore?
rubbish. I already said the cleveland case appeared to be unjsutified and probably criminal
like the kneejerkers, you ignore the cases that where it is apparent police misconduct, i call it out as such
and unlike the armchair commenters here I have sued (and won) against police misconduct as well as testified against an officer for committing assault on an innocent. have you?

here copy and pasted from my post on the OBVIOUSLY unjustified shootings
again, you demonstrate exactly what i am talking aobut. you ignore when i call out ACTUAL police misconduct which i have never been an apoliogist for..

What about the Garner case, Dunphy? Do you approve of summary execution as punishment for having violated tax laws in the past?
Breaking news: a federal judge in western Pennsylvania has declared parts of Obama's immigration executive order to be unconstitutional.
Dipshit Dalmia isn't going to be happy about this at all.
I think the only way that could have been a better response is if he instead replied with 'lol.'
"gay"
"pussy"
"nuts"
My neighbors across the street decided to raise a few pigs this year. Holy cow does their shit stink. I'm glad they're downwind.
This always comes as a surprise to first-time pig farmers. I have to laugh.
The solution is to put the pig pen adjacent to a pond and daily hose the shit into the pond. After a couple of weeks every time you start dragging the hose out the turtles will stampede to the spot where the effluent goes in. That will take care of the smell...mostly.
You have the added bonus of big fat turtles that you can sell.
Just don't let the EPA find out.
I only made that comment because it's starting to smell like their yard in here.
What you did there...
So one can (theoretically) feed the remains of your hated rival to the pigs, then wash the rival poo into the pond, encourage turtles to devour your rival a second time, and one day sell the turtles to rival's family to eat...to be consumed a third time?
Atreus would approve
...as would Jay of Jay and Silent Bob.
And Mr. Woo. (Deadwood)
My cousins always kept some pigs when we were growing up. You could definitely smell them, but it wasn't so overpowering. Not sure what they did to keep the odor down.
How did this get started? Is there a stupid flu going around college campuses this time of the year? I can't imagine all these spoiled, white, know-it-all children just spontaneously getting the same idea at the same time. There has to be a source for this stupid idea.
When I was a kid, I suspected that there was some secret facility, most likely in the New Mexico desert, where new jokes and trends were dreamed up and then simultaneously released to sleeper agents recruited from schools across the country. How else could popular jokes and catchphrases spread so quickly?
Perhaps this shadow organization has been infiltrated and turned to more nefarious purposes.
I'm a few years removed from college. I can confirm that there's independent-minded, intelligent, hard-working students are becoming and endangered species.
*an
I remember reading, years ago, that someone tried to figure out how jokes spread, and a lot of it turned out to be (IIRC) New York City stock market guys who were often on the phone to people in different parts of the country.
Shit got started with federal backing of student loans.
Actually, one semester my university got hit really hard with the swine flu, so some professors had to do some adjusting with multiple exams dates to get everyone tested.
Luckily, I was away interning that semester...
If you delay the exam, you delay the start of your break. WTF?
JHC. Grow the fuck up already!
"After receiving his professor's response, the student posted the exchange publicly to Facebook, with the message: 'TRIGGER WARNING: Violent language regarding an extremely dismissive response from a professor.'"
HEY EVERYONE! LOOK AT THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE SYSTEM! I'M BEING OPPRESSED!!
He is a piece of garbage, devoid of honor, a coward, and humanity would be better off if he stopped polluting it with his presence.
And because he's a coward with a completely unjustified sense of entitlement, he'd never have the balls to do any such thing.

Government employee thinks shiny decorations given to him by government make him better than the rest of us. Makes assumptions about others.
LOL. A liar like you thinks we are going to buy your claims to have been decorated and honored for heroism?
You do realize that nobody buys an obvious liar's bullshit, right?
And I'm sure that every medal ever awarded to a cop is completely deserved.
True story: during my deployment, due to a bizarre set of circumstances four guys who missed out on liberty in Jebel Ali because they had been ordered to retile the deck in Central Control while the ship was in port received Naval Achievement Medals for their trouble.
Poor guys had to deal with a great deal of trash talk for their medal-winning linoleum laying skillz for the next few years.
"Read what my medal says: 'Courage'. Ain't it the truth? Ain't it the truth?"
Publicly recognized by whom, dumpy? The members of the "we have the most dangerous job in america" liars and circle-jerking club?

Does your "caregiver" know what you're up to right now, Fosdick?
Alternative response, although not as good as "no."
Ms. Kurzer-Zlotnik:
You are an adult. Whether you take the exam or not is entirely up to you.
You can make your decision about whether to take the exam, and I will make mine about what grade you will receive.
I just realized something!
Darrel Sheets on Storage Wars is really Leon Kowalski from Blade Runner!
I hope the staff is paying attention to this.
Do you all see? Do you see what happens when you don't post new stories for an entire afternoon?
This was Oberlin. Is no one so traumatized by the Lena Dunham affair that they can't take a test?
Screw that. My father died about 3 am of the morning I had my Electonic Engineering 101 final. I took the exam, anyway.
Our house flooded the night before I had to take the ACT.
the word "No" is violent language now? Perhaps I do agree with the young freshman about one thing: she is definitely a child of privilege. I doubt, though, it has anything to do with her color or how much $ her parents have. Shes just a brat.
Jesus Christ!!! We've got a metric assload of cases from FIRE, demonstrating the current generation of college going nimrods are outdoing themselves, and we are surprised that a bunch of fucking pansies are upset that a cop didn't willfully let himself be slaughtered by some fucking thug instead of shooting him?
The Wilson/Brown case is singular in that it's the case that led even some longtime cop critics to call out reason.com for going overboard in the kneejerk cop hate, on more than one occasion
reason truly jumped the shark in this case and demonstrated that it is they that are becoming kneejerk cop critics even in CLEARLY justified cases of police UOF. reason reminded me of the arguments i had over at feministing as the duke notactuallyarapecase was developing and the feministingnazis were jumping over backwards looking for anything to justify their vilification of the "duke boys" who MUST BE GUILTY OF SOMETHING and even if they aren't, it's a good thing they got dragged through the system anyway, so they could have empathy with rape victims or something
thank god REAL critics of state power over at volokh.com yet again get it right where reason gets it wrong and came out with a detailed and actually RESEARCHED (god forbid reason.com would spend the time) article on why the grand jury was right
reason was there from the beginning assuming the SJW's were right and the cop wrong
So if a guy knocked on the door of a cop's house at 1:30 am and the cop answered the door with a gun in his hand because he was afraid that the guy might mean him harm, the guy would totally be justified in shooting the cop, right?
He claims to call out actual cases of police brutality. He gets Tamir Rice right. So that leaves Eric Garner, John Crawford, Kelly Thomas, David Hooks...
Dunphy, there is a report that the prime witness that backed up the cop's story was nowhere near the area when it happened. So maybe the prosecutor got it wrong. Certainly a 10-week grand jury is very unusual. And having the accused as a witness is not done in many jurisdictions. The case smells.
The only witnesses who were caught flat out lying was a racist woman who posted slurs online after the testimony and a person who admitted to making up the story to support the cause.
We can safely conclude that Brown was NEVER shot in the back. Even Dorian Johnson changed that part of this testimony.
Whether he was shot while in a clear act of surrender is up for debate. But I doubt someone who was shot five times in the arm could hold his arms up long enough as a gesture of surrender. He was probably trying to surrender but was in too much pain to put them up straight. That's why witnesses saw it as a "gesture".
But then he apparently charged the officer.
my neighbor's aunt makes $67 /hr on the computer . She has been laid off for five months but last month her income was $12400 just working on the computer for a few hours. go now........

Has your aunt been decorated for valor? Because I'm not clicking the link unless I get a medal!
Can you judge a man by the company he keeps?
God I hope not.
Hey, fuck this bitch. I'll hire that professor to do...anything...if he has any trouble as a result of this. I can find work for a guy person who shows such restraint and leadership.
The only thing better was if, instead of typing "No", he would have just attached a photo of Grumpy Cat.
No is now a 'violent' word.
Drunken frat hookup. She says 'yes', then 'yes', then 'no'.
He, devastated, consequently calls campus police for her sexual verbal violence towards him.
Good heavens - can a brotha get a TRIGGER WARNING up in here?
I just hope I'm dead before nitwits like this are running things.
Hopefully they'll never run things. When life gets too intense, they'll run away to their happy place.
I found out why she didn't have time to study for her stats exam:
"My name is Della Kurzer-Zlotnick, and I'm 18. My biggest passion is social justice and community organizing."

You know who else organized communities?
Barack Hussein Obama?
I didn't really know what that meant-- I just knew I cared about social change and progress
Yeah, I went and looked. I wish I could steal $5 from her kickstarter, cause, Grinch.
Oh well. FEEEEELLLLLLZ
"My biggest passion is social justice and community organizing."
For pete's sake, is she practicing for some award ceremony?
She left out "world peace" and "ending hunger", along with "serve the people!"
Apparently a privileged, white, middle-class, sjw womyn can't afford a $600 class to hang around like-minded insufferable shit sticks.
I was hoping this prof would say something like this...
"No.
"Neener neener."
seriously though, how is a Liberal institution to respond to those whose triggers include hearing and seeing the phrase
"trigger warning"
Cop suspended for 10 days iow $4,000 for playing Sweet Home Alabama

This is really a racist individual. Listen to what she's saying.
"I'm a MIDDLE CLASS WHITE woman, so I'm completely unaffected by this. I can study and get ready for the final, like no problem. But you see, the black folks, they're uniquely affected by this tragedy. They don't have what it takes to cope with this sort of thing. And you know, the faculty hasn't done anything for them."
When LA riots hit, I and many other immigrants weren't excused from any quizzes or tests. And that incident defined the Korean American experience. No one will remember the Ferguson controversy by Valentine's day 2015. We stopped caring about Ebola a week before black friday. STFU and get in the unemployment line, where you and your brainless friends belong.
XM, it's what W called the soft prejudice of low expectations. She is essentially saying the black kids are too weak to get over it. Since it is not overt she cannot see herself as racist.
He could have also respended that all exams are optional.
I thought no meant no?

On her Facebook page is a pic of her at some camp, and on her t-shirt is a sticker that says "Della she/her", which I suppose is to inform others how she likes to be addressed, because apparently observing that she is female is not sufficient evidence.
I think what's worth noting is that there are some 'communities' where this SJW-psychosis is basically the prevailing world-view for the entirety of these kids lives.
Then they get to college and these ridiculous Radical Feminist ideas of "Safe-Spaces" and "Crime Words" and "Trigger-warnings" is usually reinforced... if not amplified.
By the time they get out of college, they're completely steeped in derp from head to toe. Its *all they know*
For these people? OBERLIN IS NOT FUCKING LEFTWING CRAZY *ENOUGH*
Dwell on that shit, and despair
It's sad, isn't it?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Cuyahoga Community College has a much larger black community than Oberlin (I'm a student at Tri-C and Oberlin isn't horribly far away, I'm pretty familiar with the demographics of both areas). There was no talk whatsoever about delaying finals for black students at Tri-C. No school should be delaying finals for this. What a stupid concept. Grow a pair and learn to deal!
Grand Jrys are morons, plain and simple. the court system itself is a fuckin joke.
http://www.TheAnonBay.tk
Yep the system is a joke but tell me a better system. In most countries they just railroad defendants with show trials then take them out back and shoot them. At least we try to be fair. Remember that the Grand Juries are not government employees but ordinary citizens
The professor is a "Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics." I suspect that the coming spring term will be the last term he teaches at Oberlin, assuming that he is not shown the door immediately after this term's exams are graded.
A modest proposal:
First of all, everyone with a hyphenated last name should be put to death immediately. Secondly, anyone who hesitates to laugh at the Three Stooges should immediately be banned from "higher education". I believe if we were to implement these changes, higher education can be saved.
Hmmm, seems like I have made these proposals in HnR a few times before. But I would go further and have anyone falling into those categories to report to their local bio-recycling center.
My best friend's step-mother makes $66 /hr on the internet . She has been out of work for 10 months but last month her payment was $12188 just working on the internet for a few hours.

Apparently, Della Double-Hyphen doesn't understand that "No means No"!
Honestly....if these pansies are so easily "traumatized" by grand jury decisions, how do they expect to be successful as attorneys in the real world? How are they going to "cope" with either prosecuting or defending one accused of some horrific murder? Do they really expect that a judge will grant them a continuance simply because they are "traumatized" by the proceedings or the facts/evidence of a particular case? What do thy think a grand jury does? What will thy do if & when a grand jury doesn't hand down a verdict that they want?
God help us: we have managed to raise and/or indoctrinate an entire generation of weak-minded pansies.
How?
DA: "Your honor, I request that the defendant not be allowed to testify in his own defense because he might trigger me, which would then unfairly interfere with the state's case against him."

Traumatized - are you kidding me - see how far that will get you when you get out in the real world and get a real J O B! Oh, I forgot most of these kids will return to academia or government jobs where very little of anything will be expected of them.
What a bunch of wimps!!!
When I was in college (at Virginia Tech) we got half a day off (morning classes were on) because of 9-11. Personally I wanted classes, or at least something to distract me. But in fairness, being that we were in Virginia where one of the planes both took off and crashed so there were many students who wanted to get in touch with their families.
Exams eventually went on as planned.
I was convinced that email was going to end in a sarcastic punchline and was disappointed when it didn't.
The reply vindicated me somewhat.

So Ok, you don't like conservatives... but at least they are not WIMPS like Liberals...
In a nutshell the professor was telling students to grow up. We were all traumatized by the events of 9/11 far more than anyone can be over these events, yet all of us, ADULTS, were expected to report to work and do our jobs. We did not get time off because we were upset about watching planes crashing into the WTC and all the other horrific images that followed. The request is nothing more than another example of why, as a nation, we have fallen so far behind the rest of the world. The concept of "everyone gets a trophy" has crippled our children because they have no tools to manage conflict, strife and emotional turmoil. The coddling of egos by educators has resulted in an entire generation who is unprepared and incapable of dealing with the normal events we older Americans call "life".
Valerie `s posting is shocking... on saturday I bought a great new Jaguar XJ after I been earnin $6211 this last four weeks an would you believe 10k this past month . it's by-far my favourite-work I've ever done .
