Congress Passes $1.1 Trillion Spending Bill, President Promises to Sign

The House of Representatives voted 219-206 on a "cromnibus" (continuing resolution + omnibus bill) that funds the federal government to the tune of $1.1* trillion next year, loosens campaign finance laws that apply to party fundraising, revises portions of the Dodd-Frank law pertaining to financial regulation, and tries to prevent the District of Columbia from implementing marijuana legalization, among other things. The White House says it's not pleased with every provision in the bill, but not displeased enough to prevent the president from supporting the bill by promising to sign it.
A counterpart to the bill, H.R. 83, known as "An Act to require the Secretary of the Interior to assemble a team of experts to address the energy needs of the insular areas of the United States and Freely Associated States through the development of energy action plans aimed at promoting access to energy," will now have to pass the Senate.
A supermajority of Republicans, 162, voted for the bill, along with 57 Democrats to secure its passage just a few hours before funding authority expired for the feds.
*A previous version of this post indicated $1.01 trillion in spending in the bill. What's a few hundred billion between friends?

OT: 20-sided die from the Ptolemaic era in Egypt:

[please be genuine!]
Mom is Cleopatra?
The reason there aren't 20-sided dice is because it is impossible to keep them random for long.
'Way too much tendency to land on the heaviest side with those small surfaces.
I see you've never been one for Dungeons and Dragons.
Nope, my "gaming" skills are limited to Pong, Pac Man and solitare.
I presume the 'throws' in D&D are algorithmic in some manner? In which case, they mimic the 'loaded' feature of the real thing.
I think you're confusing it with electronic games. D&D is also (and originally) a tabletop RPG, usually played with actual dice.
Well I'm sure she did it for the wrong reasons, but I'm glad that for once that crazy bitch Jackson-Lee voted on the right side.
Holy shit. My rep voted in a way that wasn't evil? We are through the looking-glass, people.
Remember back when we had budgets and could debate how much we spent on what? Does anyone know what the hell just got passed?
I am probably just clueless, and this is may all be done in committee, but why don't they vote on budgets piece meal so that it is easier to comb through the data and cut out some of the waste? They could even vote on the order they are going to review each part.
I have a feeling that I already know the answer. BFYTW
They don't want to cut out the waste.
"The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press reports that for the first time in more than twenty years of polling, more Americans prioritize gun ownership than gun control. According to the report, "52% say it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns, while 46% say it is more important to control gun ownership."...
"The percentage of African Americans who support gun rights has gone up 10 percent since 2012. And when asked whether owning a gun does more to protect people's safety than endanger it, African Americans had a notably different answer in 2014: "Currently, 54% of blacks say gun ownership does more to protect people than endanger personal safety, nearly double the percentage saying this in December 2012 (29%).""
http://www.the-american-intere.....un-rights/
I think some people are finally starting to see the cognitive dissonance required to believe that sweeping gun control, combined with heavier reliance on a more aggressive and unaccountable police force, is the ideal solution for personal self defense.
Huh. It's almost like there have been certain things which occurred in the last 2 years which made black people realize they should protect themselves, rather than relying on the police.
I wonder what the cops could have done to make this happen. I can't think of a thing.
If the GOP was really serious about cuts?a last attempt to save our country they should have backed Cruz.
All entitlements to illegals in whatever form need to be eliminated. 100%. As a matter of fact no non citizen should get aid. I didn't when I lived in Germany for over a year.
We also need to dramatically reduce welfare benefits and eliminate most of the Medicaid benefits. And where are all of these people going to get jobs then? Deport all 11 million illegals. Yes that is tough. And it is also fair.
And you pass law that you can't spend more than you have as a nation. Period. No matter if there is a tsunami in Thailand. We don't spend money anywhere if the money isn't there. No matter how good the cause. Some parents can't afford braces for their children. Braces are a good cause. But they don't get them if the money isn't there. Our government should follow that example. And it should be legally binding.
If we don't do the above we will fall as my fiction predicts. Based on history like Cicero's prophecy for Rome mind you. Because it doesn't take a sage to see if you keep spending what you don't have then the end result is collapse whether the nation wants to recognize it or not.
Charles Hurst. Author of THE SECOND FALL. An offbeat story of Armageddon. And creator of THE RUNNINGWOLF EZINE
I'm sure that'll be cheap.
It's also questionable that the net would be an economic positive.
Since illegals are already net contributors, it would be a massive net economic negative.
I'm not convinced it's "massive" since there are many ways of gaming the welfare trough.
But the 'illegals' are self-selected for some serious ambition; those folks are willing to deal with grief to get here and it's therefore likely they carry their weight and then some.
The illegals working low paying jobs are almost certainly receiving less welfare per capita than their native counterparts. And they can't really escape the kind of taxes that you pay with that little income mostly sales taxes and property taxes (indirectly via rent). Can't file for tax credits and such. Add on the cost of deporting them all which would be almost as frighteningly expensive and ineffective as the WOD and there ya go.
Ahahahahahahaha
Well... These are your fellow travelers so... I wish you lots of luck.
NO, fuck you, cut spending!
In all seriousness, good alt-text.
"NO, fuck you, cut spending!"
NO, fuck you, cut spending!
No fuck! *YOU* cut spending!
"a "cromnibus" (continuing resolution + omnibus bill)"
cromnibus = Crony omnibus
Oh good, it's not just me who reads it that way.
How could they have not known?
I've taken to calling it the crony ominous bill. Ominous sign of the big spending, big government crap we're going to see out of this Congress.
Is this where I talk shit about fantasy football? Because I haven't yet, and I'd like to, one game shy of back-to-back title game appearances.
OT: Black-owned stores looted in Emeryville. "I can't breathe, but I can loot!"
A friend owns a business there; not retail. So far, his business hasn't been hurt, but since he doesn't sell TVs or beer, he's prolly OK.
Yeah, nice not racist post there, dickbag. Goose stepping or the hitler salute? What goes on in your haus?
Go fuck yourself, you moronic corpse-fucker. Hitler and the Nazis were socialists, no matter how much the left would like to deny that fact.
A friend owns a business there; not retail. So far, his business hasn't been hurt, but since he doesn't sell TVs or beer, he's prolly OK.
One poke at the shift key, TWO (count 'em TWO) posts!
White SJW justifies attacking businesses in Ferguson:
"When you're hurt, you want someone to notice, to help. Experience tells protesters that candlelight vigils disappear into the void. Speeches go unheard. But if you break the windows of a convenience store? Those TV news vans will show up in a split-second, their enormous antennas flying high in the sky. People?powerful people, rich people?will pay attention."

Who cares? Ending police violence is more important than a few broken windows.
I love that the idiot talks as if any of these marches will accomplish anything. The costs are concrete and hurt real people, while the benefits are either psychic for the protesters or completely hypothetical. Stupid and evil.
The insane logic of ideology: "Police are too fearful and trigger-happy, so we'll make them afraid of The People by looting and burning and throwing things at them!" Yeah, that'll work.
One report even had explosive devices being thrown at police. A little further into the article it reduced explosive devices to an explosive was thrown. One could assume it was actually something like a firecracker. Nonetheless, someone was certainly eager for escalation.
Jeezus, they stole the CoinStar from Pak 'n' Save???
Yay... More corporate money for right-wing pols. This is sure to make things better. Vhat a country!
Yeah, government spending: what's up with that?
I thought this was all going to clear up now that we have our new Republican libertarian friends in office... you know, the ones that can't decide if sending in ground troops into Syria is a good idea or not.
Well, maybe next year.
Die Bloedhiet, sie brennt!
*heit, rather.
Personally, I'm surprised that our libertarian socialist democrat friends didn't give us a worker's paradise between 2009 and 2014.
Somehow, "libertarian socialist" equals:
1. Obsess over calling libertarians republicans.
2. Defend democrats
Apparently, a "libertarian socialist" is a closet democrat because of the NAP, for reasons never explained.
Well, don't worry: perhaps the next trillion dollar budget that your democrat friends set up will be exclusively controlled by democrats for all future time. Then, you won't have to worry ever about those right wing congresses who, strangely, just became right wing about 5 minutes ago, apparently.
Ha ha ha!
Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby said she had been doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire. Her father also said she had 'a big gash on her head'.
'They squirted lighter fluid down her throat and in her nose, and apparently they knocked her out,' added Mr Chambers, a maintenance worker for the sheriff's department.
'When the fire department got there, she was walking down the road on fire ... only part of her body that wasn't burned was the bottom of her feet.'

Since the town has a population of less than 500 it sure seems like they'd at least have a suspect by now.
Even where I grew up, with twice that population, everyone would already know. They always already know. You take a shit, and 30 minutes later everyone knows what color it is.
It's this sort of thing that makes me reluctant to oppose the death penalty.
I can understand wanting to kill someone. But burning them to death is pure fucking evil.
The perps are either going to be some bitchy high school enemies of hers, or an ex boyfriend. Probably the former. Only high school girls can be this evil. A guy would use a gun.
Fuck you, authoritarian Republicans. I think 69% voting to legalize marijuana is a mandate. Bush thought he had a mandate when he was reelected with barely 50%. I kind of want to kick something now.
Ohhh actually, apart from being hypocritical assholes saying they're for cutting spending and then spending like dems:

They can say it means whatever they please; every time the word "cromnibus" appears the part of my brain responsible for recognizing political cronyism lights up like a big flashing neon sign.
Thank God they delayed it for a few hours
